04 Feb 2024 | The Connection Between Oral Heath & the Heart | 00:26:24 | |
Did you know that pets with a healthy mouth live a longer, healthier life? Taking a bite out of bad breath is not just about keeping your pet’s teeth pearly white. Where tartar and odour lie, bad bacteria are sure to be found. Like our own bodies, your pet’s body is teeming with bacteria creating what is known as the microbiome. Different parts of the body have their own microbiome and keeping good and bad bacteria in balance is the key to better health. So what does that mean for your pet’s oral microbiome health? In a balanced mouth those good bacteria will get to work keeping the teeth and gums clean and free of inflammation. If bad microbes find their way in and are given the right conditions to flourish we begin to see that sticky yellow tartar form on the tooth surface. Those bacteria meanies don’t just stick around the snout, they can easily travel through the body and often enter the bloodstream putting stress on the heart and other organs.
