Learn how to run a speck call as much as possible, because unlike ducks who aren’t as ‘call influenced’, specks are extremely ‘call influenced’ and your practice will pay off tremendously.
Snow decoys are confidence decoys for hunting specks. Brook elaborates on this week's GEORGE LYNCH HUNTING episode.
Specks can finish as well over snow decoys as they can over speck decoys. Put some speck decoys in the killing hole in the middle of snows and see what happens.

George and Dianne recently stopped by Shep Brown's shop to check in on the progress of one of their buck mounts. Following are a few outtakes from their interview with Shep in his shop: * Shep is an award-winning taxidermy expert with 44 years of knowledge and experience * Shep works on all kinds of species from deer, turkey, bear, bobcats, reptiles of all kinds, reproductive fish, exotic animals from around the world and just about every kind of game legal to hunt * Strangest mount he ever did was a Saint Bernard - there's a story behind it * George and Dianne found Shep in the middle of working on a Medusa that will have reptiles all over and around her head * The differences between Africa game and North America game is that the Africa game hides arrive to the shop very stiff as a result of the way they are packed for international shipping * Biggest Iowa buck Shep ever mounted scored a whopping 220+/- * The Covid affect on Shep's taxidermy business greatly increased due to an increase in hunters' time and access availability * Shep shared two key tips to hunters on deer preparation for taxidermy shops * No task is too great. Shep fixes broken buck tines with such speciality that his repairs cannot be detected with the naked eye * Shep is known for reptiles (snakes and alligators), and in fact, won Best in the World with a reproduction alligator head * Advice for upcoming taxidermists - how to get started in the field

Bucks are starting to show their antler potential b. Soy bean fields become prime targets for sightings because the flower buds are irresistible to the deer 2. Use bean fields for long range scouting 3. Time to set cameras on mineral sights to capture potential shooters 4. Keep your cameras above eye level. Techniques for field calling geese
Sequences that have performed well for George Lynch
Practice your calling so you can confidentially switch your calling sequences on the fly based on the birds’ actions
Getting into more advanced clucking , more advanced murmurs and then get into the spit note
How to use these sounds in the field for best results
Tune your call for hunting. At Legendary Gear, we recommend using tuning your call to medium to utilize every sound the call will give you without requiring a lot of air
Read the geese and respond to their actions.
Use the super murmur and super cluck sequence for early season and migrator geese
The spit note is really a two note yodel, but remember, be careful not to over use it in the field.

George shares challenges of fourth season turkey hunting from the blind in south central Iowa and tips to overcome them to be successful in the field along with gear he uses. George Lynch shares tips and tactics to be successful hunting Alien Big Bucks in your area.
FIRST, it is always good to remember:
* Make realistic hunting goals based on your geographic location and then adapt
* Be willing to pass up immature deer to wait for big bucks
* Remember, big bucks think, act and behave differently
TIPS, STRATEGY AND FACTS:
George breaks the deer hunting season into 4 categories: early season, pre-rut, regular rut and late season.
When scouting, do it long range and limit your human scent.
George Lynch’s rules about entering the deers’ habitat.
Be sure you aren’t following their runs
Be sure you aren’t making the animals feel that they are being hunting, tracked, etc..
As a hunter, you have to build your confidence so that every time you go in, you are doing so feeling that this hunt will result in success.
First 3 days of early season provides the highest success rate to harvest a deer. Each subsequent hunt gives deer more awareness of human presence and the deer tend to hang low.
George typically will not hunt the same family group more than 2 days in a row. It gives the deer a reprieve on feeling as if they are continually being hunted - lightens the pressure.
Whitetails are some of the most adaptive animal in the world. Big bucks have learned to adapt with continued population and building expansions into their habitats. The older the buck, the smarter and wiser he is.
For early season hunting, hunt near the food source in the evening, not in the morning. If you go in early, you’ll be bumping a lot of deer.
Rubs and scrapes start showing up in pre-rut season. Hunt the does and mock scrapes.
Mature whitetails will go to the primary scrapes.
Roger Rothhaar helped me with scrape classifications:
boundary (tip: great place for a trail camera)
secondary (overhanging branches to share scents)
primary (mature does and mature bucks go to the primary scrapes)
Bucks can use a Does’ scent and urine to determine the doe’s age, health and breeding status.
