From God to Gay (Carris Geyer)

This Episode we go into some of the messages we recieved as teenagers and young adults about Purity in the eyes of God, how this affected the way in which we interacted with other people, presented ourselves and the deep shame we felt about this pervasive message.

This Episode Carris dives back into her past church experiences that informed her eventual leaving from church. Delving into just how difficult the process of leaving was, processing the trauma of some events and how they still impact her today.

Carris answers some listener questions about her family and parenting since coming out and deconstructing.

This is a heavy episode not filled with our usual segments because we needed time to get through the beefy bits of Carris's journey!

Part one of this amazing episode, we go into the process of making queer friends as women who actually didn't have queer friends before coming out! What our first real life gay experiences were like for us, and how we got to feel more a part of our community!

Part two will be coming in the next few days and spoiler, it gets even juicer!

The second part to our Intergrating into Gay Culture. We go into more about our thoughts and process integrating ourselves into the LGBTQ community and a lil sneaky talk about sex. Enjoy!

Part Two - Coming Out - Carris's gives us all a very raw look at what coming out involved for her emotionally. It was a highly emotional episode to record and edit for us but well worth the listen.

This episode we delve into how religion and churches are gatekeeping joy and where and how we found that we could experience joy, outside of the church and religion! We have a few tangents on this episode but they are all equally important to talk about.

This we're talking about where we are both at in terms of our spirituality, what we believe or not believe, and what spirituality in general means for us now.

This episode we're talking about all things divorce, healing and grieving. The process of a divorce is so hard on all parties and we chat about the added layer of figuring out you're sexuality and dealing with all the layers of that on top of the divorce.

This episode we are talking about the complexities of compulsary heterosexuality and how that played into alot of us late in lifer's coming out journey and we explore why people within the LGBTQ community feel the need to come out at all.

Q&A - We had some amazing listener questions including, Carris's experience at bible college, talking about "Fatphobia" within the Lesbian Community, and staying in Het Marriage when you've realised you're gay! And many many more.

This week we're talking about the harmful stereo type and the assosciations that come with the word "lesbian". Carris shares some of the instantances she experienced these harmful associations and we delve into how we come to accept the word as part of our identity.

Delving into what christmas used to look like for us, and how it looks now that we no longer believe, and are also, parenting solo around christmas. Everything is different now that's for sure!
