13 Jul 2021 | Madeleine Black: Rape Survivor And Thriver | 00:55:47
Trigger Warning: This episode contains sexual violence. In this episode, Kim Honeycutt interviews Madeleine Black, who was violently assaulted. They discuss the behavior that happens after trauma, how to have fulfilled relationships moving forward, and more about her powerful story of healing. Madeleine Black's Bio: I have an unusual personal story which I use to inspire and motivate others. I chose to forgive the two men who gang-raped me when I was thirteen years old, and I share my story for many reasons. I want to end the shame, stigma, and silence surrounding sexual violence, enabling others to find their voice, whatever their story is. I want people to know that it's not what happens to us that is important but what we do with it. I will show how changing my mindset tapped into my resilience and transformed my life, making people question their own thinking and encouraging them to see that there are always choices to make, and if we choose to, we can get past anything that happens to us in life both professionally and in our personal life. I want to encourage others to live their lives courageously, too, but ultimately, I want to inspire hope and show people that we are all so much stronger than we think we are. The sharing of my story publicly on The Forgiveness Project's website in September 2014 opened many doors for me in ways I never imagined, and the invitations started to pour in. Many women and men got in contact and explained how reading my story gave them strength, hope, and a different perspective of what's possible in their lives. I have taken part in both TV and radio interviews and has been invited to share my story of being gang-raped as a teenager at conferences, book events, schools, etc. I recognize that I was a victim of a crime that left me silent for many years but has now found my voice and intends to use it. Not just for me, but for so many who can't find theirs yet.

With a considerable dose of warmth (and surprising measure of humor), Curt weaves together an understanding of interpersonal neurobiology (IPNB) and a Christian view of what it means to be human — to educate and encourage others as they seek to fulfill their intrinsic desire to feel known, valued and connected. Curt’s unique insights about how the brain affects and processes relationships help people discover a fresh perspective and practical applications to foster healthy and vibrant lives, allowing them to get unstuck and move toward the next beautiful thing they’re being called to make. Through his workshops, speaking engagements, books, organizational consulting, private clinical practice and other platforms, he helps people process their longings, grief, identity, purpose, perspective of God and perspective of humanity, inviting them to engage more authentically with their own stories and their relationships. Only then can they feel truly known and connected and live into the meaningful reality they desire to create. Curt and his wife, Phyllis, live outside of Washington DC and have two adult children. 26 Oct 2021 | Shamyra Parker: Care Starts With Self | 00:59:59
Shamyra Parker Evans is a motivational speaker, mental health advocate, and self-care enthusiast. She shares in our podcast how toxic relationships tried but were unsuccessful in derailing her ministry of helping others receive love. Shamyra Parker is the Founder and Chief Well-Being Officer (CWO) of Born Boundless International. More importantly, she is just like you. A High-Impact woman. A phenomenal mother. And someone who needs powerful self-care. As a self-care advocate, educator and healing ally who creates safe spaces for Black women and W.O.C. (Women of Color) in High-Impact leadership roles (and that includes women in ministry or CEO's of their homes), Shamyra knows all too well how easy it is for powerful women with competing priorities to allow themselves to be pulled in a million directions. Shamyra comes from a fast-paced, high stress corporate environment, where she managed a territory of three states that often involved overnight travel, all while being a mom of two small children the last 5 years of her corporate career. This was all possible because she was uncompromising in taking care of herself. Self-care not only sustained her. It nourished her. As Shamyra transitioned to having a greater impact, she realized the typical advice that 'the more you do, the more self-care you need' is not a one-size-fits-all solution. When the things that used to work stopped working, Shamyra realized that for High-Impact women only is more not feasible, it simply is NOT enough. Get ready for Shamyra to show you how to cultivate a self-care lifestyle, not just a casual one-off activity. She is a community leader, serving as a Commissioner for the Reimagining America Project: The Truth, Reconciliation, and Atonement Commission of Charlotte, NC (RAP-TRACC) — a project of the George Mason University Center for World Religions, Diplomacy, & Conflict Resolution. Shamyra is also a community partner for SEE HER LEAD, an organization created to meet all girls (grades 5-12) right where they are and prepare them to lead in every area of their lives through ongoing personal development training that can be tapped into in and around life's transitions.

11 Apr 2024 | Flipping Beliefs: Brian Recker's Spiritual Transformation | 00:59:49
In this episode, Kim interviews former evangelical pastor Brian Recker and discusses his journey of self-discovery amid political shifts during Donald Trump's rise. Brian reflects on leaving his pastoral role during the COVID-19 pandemic, reevaluating his beliefs, and advocating for LGBTQ+ rights within Christianity. This episode emphasizes authenticity and embracing diversity in religious contexts. Here's a sneak peek into what they discuss:
About Brian Recker: About Brian: Brian Recker, a former evangelical pastor for over eight years, transitioned from fundamentalism after growing up in a Baptist home and attending Bob Jones University. Moving into mainstream evangelicalism felt progressive compared to his upbringing. Brian later pastored a multi-site church on the North Carolina coast but never felt fully comfortable in the evangelical movement. It took almost a decade for him to realize that his evolution was not complete, and leaving fundamentalism was only the beginning of his spiritual journey. After spending several years quietly wrestling with where his faith would land, he began speaking publicly on Instagram, where he found out that many people were thinking the same thoughts he was. After quickly gaining 1000,000 followers from his unique, compassionate, yet down-to-earth communication style, he started a podcast, "Sacred Counsel," offering pastoral wisdom to people in their journeys of evolving spirituality. Brian has a Master of Arts in Ministry from Lancaster Bible College and has four children. Connect: IG: @berecker
26 Jan 2021 | Andrew J. Bauman: Sexually Healthy Man | 00:50:41
Andrew J. Bauman is the Co-Founder & Director of the Christian Counseling Center: For Sexual Health & Trauma (CCC), Andrew J. Bauman is a licensed mental health counselor with a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology. Andrew is the author of 5 books, The Sexually Healthy Man, Floating Away, Stumbling Toward Wholeness, The Psychology of Porn, and (with Christy) A Brave Lament. When Andrew was a young child, he started developing some mental health issues as his parent’s marriage was falling apart. He began to internalize all that trauma in his body all that was going on in his head. His father was a pastor and Vice President of a Christian college. Being a part of a Christian community that had no language to articulate what was going on he just kept moving as if everything was fine, yet his body told him something different. Andrew hit adolescence right when the internet was becoming readily available and began to self-soothe with pornography. In his words, he found a cheap substitute for God. After thirteen years of addiction to pornography and objectifying and harming women, he found himself on a psychiatric ward nearly killing himself, literally being stripped naked in a padded room. Through a quote he read on the psych ward, he became determined to find out what makes him come alive because that's what the world needs. He found the courage to hope. He then got his degree and started using his story to reach others who are suffering in similar ways Andrew wants everyone to understand that much of his harm was not the actual trauma that he suffered whether that was sexual abuse or the destruction of his parents’ marriage. His decision to soothe and his behavior was actually much more complex and harder to undo in the trauma itself. Listen to the full episode to hear more about what flipped Andrew's lid and how he reconnected with who God says he really is.
