13 Jul 2020Taboo Tuesday: Menstruation in Media and its Sexist Stigma01:06:59
Q: What do Taboo Tuesday and Periods have in common? A: They come once a month. *insert uproarious laughter*. Even though people who menstruate make up about 50% of the world's population, periods are still wildly underrepresented, stigmatised and demonised in media and pop culture. In this month's Taboo Tuesday we give a scathing critique to the media that contributes to period stigma and celebrate the initiatives working to end it, including chatting to Shuari Naidoo, founder of Moraka Menstrual Cups, about how her New Zealand-based small business is tackling period stigma. Listen in, it'll be bloody good fun!

27 Aug 202010 Things I Hate About You: We Don't Even Hate It A Little Bit, We Don't Even Hate It At All01:01:46
I want you to want to listen to us discuss 10 Things I Hate About You! Join us as we rave about the dense feminist values embedded in the foundations, wonder if the 90's aesthetic is the greatest aesthetic of all time, and ask ourselves the question: if this film was made in 2020, would it embrace it's intersectionality?

03 Sep 2020Into The Woods is Not Good, It's Not Bad, It's Just Nice01:04:41
The way is clear, the light is good, and we're delving Into The Woods (and hopefully we'll be home before dark). Join us as we discuss the seminal Stephen Sondheim musical in all the ways it's feminist, all the ways it critiques misogyny, and all the ways it doesn't really. Incredibly complex characters with stereotypical gendered objectives, confronting questions about life after Happily-Ever-After, and a disagreement over Anna Kendrick in movie musicals: this episode has it all.

One of our most requested films, we dive into a pool of early 2001 nostalgia to see if its feminist merits will take the crown, or abdicate the throne. 26 Nov 2020Bring It On; it's sexy, it's cute, it's popular to boot00:56:39

I said BRRRR, it's cold in here, there must be some PODCASTS in the atmosphere.

This week we're tackling the seminal 2000 cheerleading film BRING IT ON. We dissect the cloud of toxic masculinity that follows male cheerleaders, lament a whole bunch of girls NOT supporting girls, shudder at the homophobic slurs being thrown left right and centre, and Mim's brain implodes at the prospect of sexualising teenage girls.

12 Nov 2020Shrek Is Like Onions00:56:36

SomeBODY ONCE TOLD ME that today we'd been tackling 2001 animated sensation, SHREK. Trigger Warning: We discuss Sexual assault. If you don't wish to listen to this conversation, please skip [ 43:30 - 45:01 ]
