22 Jun 2023F*ck Yeah to Birth Stories with Ryan DiMartino00:50:04

Ryan DiMartino, founder of World of Difference Doula, joins Robin and Sarah to share their birthing and adoption journey. We covered so much ground in our conversation with Ryan that we have broken it into two parts. In today’s episode, we dive into Ryan’s pregnancy, after doctors told them testosterone would cause them to become infertile. Ryan’s experience navigating the health care system as a 21 year old, trans pregnant person speaks volumes about the disparity in care and systematic scrutiny folks receive based on their perceived identity. Ryan’s birthing experience, their subsequent surrogacy, and their role in an open adoption with their children have given them an uniquely insightful perspective on adoption, reproductive care, and the like. Sarah and Robin also share about their own, much different, birthing stories.

Join us next week to hear more about the adoption industry and the experience of birthing parents and adopted children in that system. Find Ryan at worldofdifferencedoula.com

18 Jan 2024F*ck Yeah to Queer Cuisine with Chef Kat Mciver01:07:34

This week we're talking about food! No, "Queer Cuisine" is not a euphemism. Chef Kat Mciver of seasonal farm-to-table cafe Wide Eyes Open Palms in Long Beach joins us and we get to ask an expert about our personal (and very different) struggles with food. Kat shares about how the punk scene prepared her for toxic kitchen culture, enlightens us on her cooking philosophy of "waste not, want not" and how to use every part of a plant (think carrot tops, radish greens and pea tendrils). We contemplate the idea that food may mean something special to us as queer people and try to name what makes something "Queer Cuisine." Kat also shares an intuitive eating practice and her approach to shopping at a farmer's market.

If you're interested in visiting Kat's cafe, WEOP was founded on the mission of being the ultimate brunch experience, combining the joys of a perfectly prepared coffee with the nourishment of a fresh, healthy farmers market-sourced meal, and a fresh-baked pastry. We aim to bring all of that into a positive environment focused on inclusivity and celebrating the LGBTQ, women, and POC communities, each and every day. Give them a follow HERE.

We talk about the deeply destabilizing effects of divorce and how to overcome the feelings of shame or isolation that often accompany it and JP's journey of a daily art practice that got her out of her darkest days. Of course, we love on CraftNight, which is held every Wednesday night at the iconic Silverlake bar, Akbar.

We also, somehow, talk a lot about underwear! Stick around until the end for a segment on the history of women's underwear, or the lack thereof as it turns out. Bonus: If you’ve attended CraftNight at Akbar over the years you can nerd out on a quick, sweet history of the iconic happening.

19 Nov 2024F*ck Yeah to Resistance01:10:50

It's been a wild and heartbreaking couple of weeks for those of us in the fight for queer and trans rights, choice over our reproductive decisions, regulation of corporate greed, dismantling white supremacism, and peace across the world. Sarah and Robin process their grief and rage over the election and plot a way forward with queer community, creative expression, and grounding in pleasure at the center. Showing up for the resistance is going to be exhausting at times, so let's all get resourced and give ourselves permission to step back and recharge when needed. Do not obey in advance. Do not give up. Glad to be in the fight with you all.

Listener note, as this is our first episode we are experimenting with our set up and discovered that Robin makes Sarah laugh a lot and this cannot be done too close to the mic. Apologies in advance for those of you who are sound sensitive – we promise we’re working out a set up that allows for all of the laughter and Sarah’s loud talking.

14 Dec 2023F*ck Yeah to Sex Ed with Christine Soyong Harley01:03:47

Powerhouse Christine Soyong Harley, President of SIECUS - Sex Ed for Social Change, joins us this week to talk all things sex ed. Sex ed sits at the nexus of multiple social justice issues including public health equity, gender disparities, sexual diversity, racial justice, abortion access and more. Sex ed can benefit young people in a myriad of ways (spoiler alert it doesn't just reduce rates of teen pregnancy and stis!) and Chris schools us on the range of benefits and why, as a result, it challenges conservative power structures aiming to restrict personal liberties and the growing power of the global majority. While it can feel hard these days to be hopeful in the face of harmful, restrictive policies and a moral panic that leverages fear to attack the rights and bodies of women, people of color, queer and trans people; Chris' perspective and work, informed by SIECUS' impressive 60 year track record, is a glimpse of light in the darkness. Chris also shares about SIECUS' new initiative targeting adults, Sex Ed Futurism! Don't miss this enlightening, informative, and empowering conversation!. Sarah closes out the episode walking Robin through sex ed standards and what we mean we talk about sex ed in schools. If you're looking for some good talking points at your family or holiday gatherings - this episode is for you!

If you are interested in supporting SIECUS' vision of an equitable nation where all people receive sex education, are affirmed in their identities, and have power to make decisions about their own health, pleasure, and wholeness, please consider making an end of year donation HERE and become a Sex Ed Futurist to keep up to date with educational resources and policy updates in your community.

20 Sep 2024F*ck Yeah Shorts: Reclaiming Celibacy & Abstinence00:32:55

This week we're reclaiming celibacy, abstinence, and virginity with Daviel Shy! What if we approach abstinence as a container for introspection, longing and personal growth? When Daviel joined us on the pod two weeks ago we inquired about her Virgo season musings - the virgin experiment - which she has documented on her substack. When Sarah heard about Daviel's experimentation with celibacy, it reminded her of an intentional period of celibacy she took during Venus retrograde in Libra in 2018. We explore the significance of stepping back from your sexuality to integrate parts of yourself, why the sign of Virgo is particularly well-suited for the introspection that can accompany celibacy, and the intense longing that can arise in periods of celibacy (or abstinence). Even though Virgo season is coming to an end, there are many times of the year and stages of life that can benefit from periods of celibacy and it is something we can reclaim and reframe from the patriarchal model of abstinence until marriage or lifelong celibacy in servitude to god and repurpose for our own growth and wellbeing.

Daviel's project The Lovers series premieres at the LA Gay & Lesbian Center September 21st. Tickets can be reserved at givebutter.com/SsGRph

You can also register for the Shameless Sex Couples Retreat that Sarah has been talking about and will be co-facilitating Nov 12-17.

16 Nov 2023F*ck Yeah to Sadomasochism with Sheree Rose01:10:22

The legendary Sheree Rose, also know to listeners as Robin's kink root, joins us for an enlightening conversation about her Kink legacy. We discuss her Sadomasochistic musings that intertwine art, power dynamics, and pain. From her monogamous marriage, to her partnership with Bob Flanagan starting in 1980 until his death in 1996, to her more recent 12 year collaboration with Martin O-Brien, Sheree approaches kink as art and kinky art as commentary on oppressive systems. We learn about her and Bob's early exhibitions at the New Museum of NY and Santa Monica Museum, the Society of Janice, the women's group, Leather and Lace, and the inspiration Sheree pulls from the Goddess Kali. This conversation is rich with queer, feminist and kink history.

CW: this episode explores heavy BDSM, cock and ball torture, and cystic fibrosis. Take cate while listening.

We close out the episode with Sarah introducing Robin to one of Bob Flanagan's pieces, "Why," that she uses when training professionals about Kink dynamics. The piece was featured in the documentary Sick: The Life and Death of Bob Flanagan, Supermasochist (1997) Dir. Kirby Dick. You can watch it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWtgdnuNiKQ

Our Season 2 Finale features a lively discussion with author, sex educator, podcaster, pornographer and, now, queer memoirist, Tristan Taormino. We taped this episode live at the iconic Pleasure Chest in West Hollywood. We talk about Tristan's memoir A Part of the Heart Can't be Eaten which chronicles Tristan's formative relationship with her gay dad, the other queers through her childhood and beyond who shaped her queer identity and put her on her path as a sex writer and THE anal sex expert. We love on the 90s, queer femmes, drag queens, breakthrough lovers, sex workers, and so much more. We quiz an audience member on our season 1 & 2 segments. We field audience questions about moving through sexual trauma and how to transition your mindset from being in control and beholden to your day-to-day expectations to allow yourself to explore submission and kinky power dynamics. At the end of the episode, Tristan puts her podcast host hat on and poses questions to Sarah and Robin.

26 Nov 2024Re-Release: F*ck Yeah to Queer Cuisine with Chef Kat Mciver01:07:34

What better week to talk about food and the significance of shared communal meals to queer community than the last week of November. We're taking a pause this week and sharing this food episode from earlier this year! No, "Queer Cuisine" is not a euphemism. Chef Kat Mciver joins us and we contemplate the idea that food may mean something special to us as queer people and try to name what makes something "Queer Cuisine." She also helps us unpack our personal (and incredibly different) journeys with food, shares about being a queer woman in toxic kitchen culture, and enlightens us on her cooking philosophy of "waste not, want not" aka using every part of a plant or animal in your cooking (think carrot tops, radish greens and pea tendrils). Stick around 'til the end for an intuitive eating practice and Kat's approach to shopping at a farmer's market.

28 Mar 2024F*ck Yeah to Art for Social Change with Cassils01:02:52

We close out Season 3 with longtime friend of the pod and iconic artist, Cassils. We talk about the trajectory of Cassils's art career starting with early childhood paintings on genitals, to putting their body through peril as a means of waking up viewers to the struggles of the queer and trans experience. In Cassils's view, history does not repeat itself, but it rhymes. Their work is not only a vehicle for social change, it is steeped in the tactics of queer artist/activists of the 70s and 80s. Cassils uses their body heavily in their work, sometimes putting themself in precarious situations to convey the urgency and immediacy of the issues they are tackling. Cassils most recent piece draws inspiration from die-ins and the AIDS quilt. They will create a large scale cyanotype for Trans Day of Visibility at the end of the month at the Lincoln Memorial on the Mall in Washington D.C. Our conversation touches on a number of Cassils' pieces including Human Measure, Becoming an Image, In Plain Sight and and the throughline they weave through each. Their upcoming action with the NCET will take place on March 31st in D.C. To learn more about Cassils (or to take part in their TDOV action) visit their site -www.cassils.net - or follow them on IG @cassilsartist

CASSILS is a transgender artist who makes their own body the material and protagonist of their performances. Cassils's art contemplates the history(s) of LGBTQI+ violence, representation, struggle and survival. For Cassils, performance is a form of social sculpture: Drawing from the idea that bodies are formed in relation to forces of power and social expectations, Cassils work investigates historical contexts to examine the present moment.

01 Feb 2024F*ck Yeah to Gender Euphoria with Beck Gee01:09:13

Beck Gee joins FYP to talk about trans joy and struggle. Beck breaks down the ways the DSM-5’s (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) framework and “gender dysphoria” diagnosis creates a restrictive container for gender expansive folks, which compounds the lived experience of trying to fit into a binary world, and how the issues with gender diversity exist in our transphobic and cis-heteronormative culture not within the individuals experiencing a dissonance with the gender they were assigned at birth. Beck shares his personal journey of coming into his trans masculine identity and the joy he finds in his gay, cowboy, leather life. Beck shares ways to challenge yourself, examine your own gender and sexuality as a first step towards showing up as an ally. This episode explores the intersections of mental health, substance use, and gender and sexuality exploration. Robin and Sarah share about their kids' explorations and curiosity about their gender at the end of the episode.

Beck is an accomplished master's level clinician, armed with a profound educational background in Sociology, emphasizing Gender & Sexuality at the undergraduate level, and a master's degree in Addiction Counseling. 22 Dec 2022F*ck Yeah to Kinky Virtual Reality with Brian Jennings01:04:51

Robin's bro, Brian Jennings, joins us for a super nerdy conversation that spans D&D, Star Trek, Rocky Horror, and the quintessential latchkey upbringing that contributed to both Brian and Robin's individuality. Brian is a gamer, programmer and kinkster. When he discovered there were not any kinky virtual reality games on the market, he and his partner made one! Dominatrix Simulator utilizes the movement tracking available in VR, storytelling, and a 40 story tall Goddess and her Mistresses to get players into sub space. We talk about all of the cool, immersive features of the game while Brian gives Sarah and Robin an education on kinky adult games. Sarah also leads Robin through a rousing alternative anatomy lesson, a new quiz segment that we promise will be as fun (and infuriating) for you as it was for our hosts!

Happy holidays, y'all! Thank you so much for tuning in this year. We will be taking a week off for the new year and will return January 5th with our first listener Q&A. In the meantime, make sure to check out Dominatrix Simulator and have a pleasure-filled end to 2022!

10 Aug 2023F*ck Yeah to Barbie???00:53:23

In this week's episode we wade into the complicated waters of Barbie. The mega summer blockbuster just set records as the first film by a female director to gross $1 billion dollars and we're here for it. Because we loved it so much, we also hold it to high standards as a feminist piece of work.

In this week's episode, Sarah and Robin explore Barbie's impact on them as young girls. They also discuss the delightful campiness of the Barbie film (and the breathtaking pink extravaganza that is Greta Gerwig's Barbieland) and dissect the film's feminist message. Ultimately, they may end up on opposite sides of the "Is Barbie a feminist movie?" debate! There are so many spoilers in this episode, so if you haven't seen it yet - first off, how dare you? - beware!

Anne and Sarah co-facilitate a course, Pleasure Attitudes, that focuses on re-establishing a joyful connection to pleasure in all of its forms. In this past season of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars the final three queens, Jimbo, Kandy Muse, and Jessica Wild introduce the miracle of drag to three queer women by making them over and performing on the main stage with their lesbian sisters. Spoiler alerts ahead, proceed with caution...One of these contestants was our dear friend Angie Evans! She also happened to be on the winning team. In this episode, we get all the T about what it's like to be on Drag Race, wear heels for the first time, and put a drag performance together in two days. We learn more about Angie's experience dressing and performing in drag as a butch woman. We get into the weeds about gender as performance, the smoking hotness of female masculinity, and Angie's new following of "pangiesexuals."Robin shares about her new favorite documentary, ElDorado, and Sarah gets deep about butches. Before she was the owner of her own specialty coffee shop, (Wide Eyes Open Palms, in Long Beach), Angie Evans was better known as a soulful musician, feminist activist and the resident spanker for Dyke Day LA. A classic Taurus, she enjoys all the finer things in life, such as craft beer, her newly built camper van and a gnarly bodysurfing session. 07 Mar 2024F*ck Yeah to Being Unapologetically Iconic with Jet Setting Jasmine01:16:07

Jet Setting Jasmine is an icon and owns it. As a multihyphenate adult performer, director, mental health professional, and parent Jasmine brings her full personhood to each of her roles and identities. We talk about what it takes to openly and unapologetically embrace your unique greatness, how to parent with authenticity, and how to embody and model your ethics. Jasmine shares ways to initiate conversations with your kids about boundaries, consent, sexuality, and porn that aligns with your ethics and evolves over their lifespan. She gives examples of utilizing media as a connection point and teaching tool in those evolving conversations. We talk about the state of the porn industry, how difficult it can be to define (and find) ethical pornography, and the ways political discourse makes its way into the bedroom.

Jasmine's work centers decolonizing the professional spaces she occupies - porn and mental health - and she models boundary-setting, prioritizing safety, trusting your intuition, and living your values in everything she does. This conversation ranges from teaching your kids the Boundary Song to recognizing how corporate ethics rule your sex life. Tune in to learn why Jasmine is unapologetically iconic!

Jet Setting Jasmine is an award-winning adult film director, entertainer, and master fetish trainer. She is also a licensed psychotherapist and educator who uses her expertise in mental health to advocate for a more inclusive and ethically-sound adult entertainment industry. Jasmine is the co-owner, along with partner King Noire, of Royal Fetish Films, a multi-channel adult-entertainment business that resists the discriminatory tropes common in the art of entertainment and mainstream adult industry. Well-trained to recognize the challenges that face workers in the adult film industry, Jasmine advocates for those who may not be empowered to speak for themselves. She employs cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, and narrative therapy, always with an aim of providing the most therapeutic client-care possible. Follow Jasmine on IG

15 Feb 2024F*ck Yeah to the Walk of Shame(less) with Rena Martine01:10:40

We are joined today by author and women's intimacy coach, Rena Martine, talking about the ways shame holds us back from the sex, relationships, and lives we want to live and what to do about it. As a former sex crimes Deputy District Attorney, Rena comes at her work as an intimacy coach from a unique perspective. Rena shares an exercise for getting to know your desires, one for tapping into your inner wisdom and we learn about Rena's first experience with a sex worker! Robin closes the episode with a "Healing Shit" segment - tapping into your inner crone with a crone goals exercise.
