In this episode of Face The Climb podcast, Jen talks about different ways her life has been enhanced due to her own climbing training. She also talks about how no, she hasn't sent a harder grade since her training, however the other benefits she has experienced has trumped this. She is close to sending harder though, just needs a little more. 

She talks about these benefits

  • Lasting full climbing days
  • Driving home without the need for caffeine after climbing
  • Only here and there needing that afternoon caffeine pick me up
  • Having energy to do things after a day of guiding
  • The grades she has been climbing feel easier


Enjoy! And reminder, climbing training doesn't just need to be climb a harder grade. It sure can be, but doesn't need to be the only reason to train. There are so many more benefits and goals out there!

This is the first episode of Jen sharing with you all behind the training of her training towards her goal of flashing Pockets Of Resistance, 12a, down in the New River Gorge.
This is her "plog" a journal of what she is going through mentally, physically, and emotionally during her training over the course of 12 weeks leading up to her trip to the NRG. Each week she will be sharing what happened and how she is feeling based upon the previous week of training.

This week started off strong! Finally got 10 reps for the BFR training and endurance rope training went well. However it ended on a low note with a nagging, weirdly, out of the blue thumb injury on the left hand. To say I am frustrated and at a lost is an understatement. I talk about how this isn't the first time of getting an injury before a climbing trip and how history repeats itself again.

In this episode of Face The Climb podcast, Jen talks about managing the fear of falling in climbing. She goes into rational vs irrational fears. Three possible reasons that could be contributing to your fear: Inexperience, trust in oneself, and control. She then goes into ways to manage your fear of falling in regards to bouldering, sport, and trad. More so in particular to preparations to help ease your mind and fears that could come up for each of those climbing disciplines. This is a long one and if you want to break it up, the first three topics end around 20 minutes and the preparations for the types of climbing start being talked about.  While Jen hits a couple different aspects of managing your fear, this will not end it. In this episode of Face The Climb podcast, Jen talks about recovering mentally on the wall when things don't go perfectly. Think taking longer than normal to clip the bolt, or grabbing the hold in a different way, or your foot popping off a foot hold.
