31 Oct 20233: How to Encourage an Apology (using Emotional Intelligence)00:16:26

Should you make your child say sorry when they hurt another? Or do it later on when the 'action' has died down? Is it really necessary to explicitly teach apologising? So many questions!

Teaching your child to reconcile things when they've hurt someone's feelings or done the wrong thing, is a crucial part of their social and emotional development. Yes, we do need to encourage kids to take responsibility for their actions, empathize with others, and mend relationships. But how?

In this episode, I share effective strategies for teaching kids to apologise sincerely and meaningfully.

If this resonates with you, I'd love to hear from you. Email us at hello@stephaniepinto.com and send me your thoughts, feedback or questions!

Beginning your emotionally intelligent parenting journey starts here. In this episode I'm inviting you to take a look at your emotional landscape and in particular whether or not you ACCEPT all of your emotions.

It's true that the vast majority of people believe we have positive and negative emotions. We categorise them into one bucket or the other. The good and the bad. I'm here to tell you that it's time to stop judging them as good or bad. Then we're in a better position to be able to accept even the toughest of emotions.

I'd love to know what you think and please send me your curly questions so I can answer them on the podcast! You might want to know how to manage meltdowns, what to say when a child lies, or how to deal with your own anger, anxiety or overwhelm as a parent. Whatever your question, send it my way so I can share some insights and suggestions that may well benefits hundreds of other parents listening too. Email them to hello@stephaniepinto.com

05 Nov 20234: Stop Making This One Mistake with Emotions (please!)00:15:11

In this episode, I delve into the fascinating world of emotions and how often we misunderstand them. You might think you're good at reading how others feel, but actually you very often get it wrong. For example, a simple smile can signify a range of emotions, from happiness to anxiety or even anger.

These misunderstandings can lead to conflicts, disagreements, breakdowns and even breakups. To improve your ability to understand emotions, you need to become more mindful and take a moment to reflect on your own habits.

I also share about why we really need to give people the benefit of the doubt and simply ask them how they're feeling (so we don't make these wrong assumptions). Join me to explore the world of emotions and discover how avoiding these common mistakes can enhance your emotional intelligence and deepen your relationships.

12 Nov 20235: How I Defused A Meltdown in 15 Minutes00:18:48

Meltdowns are a part of life. Not only for kids, but us adults too! It's emotional dysregulation and humanness at its finest and although they're not something to fix, it's so valuable to know how to support your child through them, whilst keeping yourself in check.

I love that learning Emotional Intelligence has helped me personally both anticipate challenging moments with my kids and navigate through them with ease and confidence. I want this for you so much! It IS possible and even more than that, I think it's our duty as parents. Your child needs you to coach them through big emotional moments, not leave them to their own devices. Let me show you how I dealt with a meltdown in my own house, and how we were all able to get back on track with our day positively.

26 Nov 20237: I asked my community "What do you wish you heard as a child?"00:19:21

Ok this is a heart-strings pulling kind of conversation. Many of us don't have a TONNE of memories from our childhood, and some of us feel like we've forgotten 95% of it.

But you know what? You'll still know - if you think about it - what you wish you did or didn't have to experience. And guess what, that's very likely exactly what your kids want to be hearing from you right now. Amazing right? Why do we overthink it?!

I share a number of messages that people in my Facebook community (Let's Raise Emotionally Intelligent Kids) put down as the things they wish they heard. And I show you the top 2 most common phrases parents didn't hear enough (one really surprised me and now I've added it to my vocab for good).

Enjoy!

10 Dec 20239: We removed YouTube from our home - here's how it went.00:26:09

How do you feel about your kids watching YouTube? If you're unsure and really don't know whether it's safe or good quality viewing for them, then you need to listen to this episode! If you're also really concerned about YouTube and the content your kids are watching, but don't feel confident removing it from your home, and how to speak to your kids about it, then this really is a must-listen.

I am certainly not advocating for every family to ban YouTube from their family - you may feel comfortable with it and that's OKAY too! I do however share some interesting (well, somewhat concerning) insights into what's underneath the content our kids are viewing and why we decided to remove it from our home. I also go into detail about how our kids reacted, and how we dealt with their emotions. It's been 2 weeks and we've not had a single complaint/beg/meltdown over it.

Steph.

03 Dec 20238: The Christmas Tree Meltdown That Didn't Happen00:21:22

Okay, proud mum (and parent coach) moment!

Let me share a story with you about how we VERY nearly had a Christmas meltdown when packing away the tree with our youngest. Emotional Intelligence and communication skills are an UNSTOPPABLE combo, trust me. These two skills have genuinely saved my bacon countless times, and my kids and I are better for it. (And actually so is my marriage!)

We aren't perfect but we have speed bumps as opposed to car crashes throughout our days. And some days we even have no bumps. I don't say this to say "Look how easy parenting is" because, no. We work hard at it. We've learnt a LOT. We continue to learn and grow. But I can hand-on-heart say our home is so much calmer and such a nicer place to be now that we parent with emotional intelligence.

Home is our haven. And I want that for you. Enjoy this episode, and please take away something from it that helps you - and if you can let me know I'd love that too! Find me in all the usual places below...

17 Dec 202310: When Your Partner Is On A Different Page (Of A Different Book In A Totally Different Shop).00:21:13

So your husband's doing it all wrong? (Sorry, couldn't help it!!) Having different approaches at home can be hard. But I'm about to shift your perspective in a big way.

In this episode, I share about the challenges and frustrations of parenting with emotional intelligence when your co-parent isn't on board. Perhaps they parent differently or are actively going against your method. Who's right? How do we get them to see our way? Is that even fair?

The powerful quote I mentioned in the episode is from Dr Dona Matthews. She's a wonderful author, developmental psychologist and speaker, find her work at www.donamatthews.com

I'd love to hear your thoughts. Are you and your co-parent struggling or finding a balance? Let me know, and ask your own questions for me to answer on the podcast, just email my team!

31 Dec 202311: A Punishment-Free Home With Emotional Intelligence00:21:29

A Punishment-Free Home With Emotional Intelligence - Ooh, is it possible??

I posted a 10-second reel on my Instagram recently about this, and it's just hit 733k views. So this was a big one that resonated with a LOT of people (for good and bad reasons).

I'll post the link to the reel below so you can check it out, but I describe it in this episode and break down some of the messages behind emotionally intelligent parenting, punishment-free home, discipline, and more. I also speak about the brilliant work and research into parenting and emotional intelligence, that's come from the Gottman Institute. Their work is exceptional and so validating to this style of parenting.

Find the reel I refer to here: https://www.instagram.com/p/C1BUD4pSLmt/

I'm on Instagram as @emotionally.intelligent.parent and the reel was posted on 19 December 2023.

Also I mentioned Dan Franco's podcast and Insta, find him at @adadliftingdads

So in this mini masterclass, I'll walk you through the deeper layers of EI, what it looks like to have strong EI and lack EI, the difference between "EI" and "EQ" and of course what those specific 26 skill areas are.

21 Jan 202414: Hypocritical Habits: Are You Practicing What You Preach?00:25:03

Get ready for a heart-to-heart on parenting in this episode. You know I love tackling the everyday challenges of raising little humans with a dose of humour and self-reflection. Well, today I'm shining the light on our parental habits that are somewhat... hypocritical (eek!). Ever caught yourself telling your child or teen to be patient while rushing them out the door? Telling them to communicate properly although you shut down or bottle feelings up? And sometimes we punish our kids' meltdowns whilst letting our own anger unleash (without repercussion I might add). It's a lot, right?! Join the conversation as I share thought-provoking reflections, three powerful self-coaching questions and a relatable story from a coaching client. Remember, it's not about being perfect—it's about growing together.

04 Feb 202416: Handling Big Emotions In Public with Emotional Intelligence.00:24:06

A while ago I took our youngest on a day out canoeing... and it was a NEAR disaster. I only say that because 'old me' would have lost it when she became emotional. Getting mad, yelling and maybe even threatening her. Not this time. Learning emotional intelligence has allowed me to evolve so much since those days. Follow me in my story today of what happened when things started going south, how I responded - exactly what I said and did - and the absolute MAGIC that came from it!

What I didn't share in the episode (as I forgot!) was my daughter, hours later in the car going home, apologising to me unprompted for what happened. I was blown away. But really, should I be? This is the power of emotionally intelligent parenting. Kids recognising and understanding their emotions, and acknowledging when they reacted in less than ideal ways. Again, magic.

11 Feb 202417: Using Emotional Intelligence to Understand Your Child's Behaviour.00:25:18

Are you baffled or triggered by your child's behaviour sometimes? Many of us parents are reaaally challenged by our children's decisions and actions; things like disrespectful language, lashing out physically, ignoring or not doing what they've been asked... it can be so stressful!

In this episode I utilise emotional intelligence (of course) plus what we now know about the developing brain to show you exactly what's going on underneath the surface of your child's behaviour. Ahh it all makes sense.

It's time for a complete paradigm shift on how we view our child and these challenging behaviours. When you have a deeper understanding of brain development and behaviour you begin to strengthen your relationships through connection - and get much more cooperation as a nice byproduct.

Tosha is a visionary for changing how we see and parent our boys, particularly those who are described as disruptive, difficult or challenging.

Meet Jen and Carrie, the OT Parent Coaches! Do you know the deep connection between emotional intelligence and sensory preferences? Most parents have no clue about this, or about the fact that there are EIGHT senses (and likely more), not just the 5 we were taught at school?! This is truly an eye-opening conversation and you'll leave feeling much more knowledgable about WHY your child sometimes erupts or digs their heels in, becomes resistant or just plain uncooperative.

Jen and Carrie are offering you all a free guide on managing meltdowns, grab it here: https://carrie-c-jen-p-ot-parent-coaching.ck.page/1ac19527c2

17 Mar 202422: Leslie Josel and Stephanie: Raising Problem-Solvers not Direction Followers (and ADHD kids)00:39:55

Stop doing everything for your kids! (I'm guilty too). Sometimes as parents we become overwhelmed and drained, as we do so much for our kids. Parenting is a full time job, right? Leslie Josel gets this - and she came on the podcast today to share what she knows works for parents and kids (esp those with ADHD as that's her jam).

Leslie Josel is the founder of Order Out Of Chaos, an award-winning business that supports parents and kids with executive function (planning, organising, time management) challenges. We spoke about why asking questions is the key to developing problem-solving skills, and the importance of NOT answering a "question" when one was really not asked! Also how to eliminate the annoying reminders we have to give our kids every day, and what to do instead.

Becoming 'triggered' simply means your emotions have gotten the better of you. Ok, yes that's a tad simplistic. But my logic is that the tools that emotional intelligence give you the capacity to overcome those reactive, knee-jerk moments, and instead come from a place of calm, confidence and conviction.

If you're going through a separation or divorce, and experiencing co-parenting battles, this episode is right up your alley. The challenges are quite possibly one of the hardest thing you'll ever navigate, BUT there are solutions. We discuss cutting emotional cables, dealing with poor communication, competitive parenting, emotional transition days, triggers and more. Aurisha Smolarki, LMFT and certified co-parent coach is here to explain what's underneath the triggers, the anger, the battles and the heart-wrenching pull of being a loving parent to a child whose other parent you are no longer romantically connected to.

Aurisha's book is Cooperative Coparenting: The Attachment Theory Guide to Raising Kids in Two Homes.

Aurisha Smolarski is a licensed marriage and family therapist, certified co-parenting coach, certified mediator, and mother, with a clinical practice in Los Angeles, CA. She specializes in working with co-parents, couples, and individuals. As a co-parent herself, she is very familiar with the challenges faced by parents raising kids in two households. 22 Apr 202427: When All The Emotions Regulation Tools Don't Work, with Alice Bullivant.00:26:06

What can we do when all the usual emotional regulation techniques and strategies fall short for our child? If you've wondered this, you're in the right place.

Alice is an ‘energy plumber’. She unblocks the blocks that people have when nothing else seems to 'work'. In this episode, she speaks about what happens when problems in the body, such as primitive (baby) reflexes don’t integrate into purposeful, functional behaviours. Behavioural challenges, disorganisation, learning difficulties and even anxiety (like with my own child!) can come up.

And so when all the usual “tools” don’t work – it can be life-changing to be open to taking another route. Alice was captured by kinesiology when her son was unhappy, angry, impulsive, yet very bright, within 5 sessions of kinesiology she had a “different child”.

Alice shared a powerful story about a client, a boy she worked with who after receiving kinesiology with her, no longer needed a whole load of supports and plans at school to get through a day, his after-school meltdowns reduced significantly, and he was no longer stuck in a pattern of strict organisation in his bedroom (a coping mechanism of anxiety).

I hope you enjoy this episode and if you’re wondering whether kinesiology might help you and your child, please get in touch with Alice, here are her links:

28 Apr 202428: My Wake-Up Call This Week: Navigating Scary Videos and Bedtime Meltdowns00:30:13

After removing YouTube from our home about 4 months ago (see previous episode on this in Dec 2023), we had a huge setback this past week. This is a pretty vulnerable episode, I wish I handled myself and the situation better... but, lesson learnt. I know you'll take a lot away from this episode - I speak about boundaries, safety, dealing with big emotions, dysregulation, anxiety and even laughing in the face of a crying child (yep, that was me. Told you I'm not perfect!).

Do your kids access YouTube in your home? How does you find it - fine, worrying or downright stressful? I'd love to know.

18 May 202430: Raising Respectful, Resilient Kids with Sarah R. Moore00:34:48

In this episode, I chat with Sarah R. Moore and discuss why disciplining, not punishing, children is crucial for their development.

Sarah explains how positive, natural, and logical consequences are WAY more helpful and much less damaging. She emphasizes that discipline can be constructive, fostering respectful and peaceful relationships.

We tackle the question of whether parental unity (both parents being on the "same page") is that important and debunk the myth that harshness prepares kids for a tough world, revealing instead that it leads to unhealthy relationships.

Sarah passionately advocates for raising children in ways that encourage them to seek supportive, collaborative, and healthy connections. Join us to learn how we can transform the world, family by family.

A bit about Sarah R. Moore: She's the author of "Peaceful Discipline: Story Teaching, Brain Science & Better Behavior" and founder of Dandelion Seeds Positive Parenting. As a certified Master Trainer in conscious parenting and Chairperson of the Board for the American Society for the Positive Care of Children, she’s also a public speaker, parent coach, armchair neuroscientist, and most importantly, a Mama. Her work has been featured on NBC, CBS, and SiriusXM, and in countless international parenting magazines. 26 May 202431: Redefining Fatherhood: Emotional Intelligence and Gentle Parenting with Daniel Franco (Part 1).00:38:08

Today on Emotionally Intelligent Parenting with Stephanie Pinto, I sit down with Daniel Franco, the insightful host of Dads Lifting Dads podcast, for part one of a compelling two-part interview.

Dan shares his experiences and wisdom on navigating the challenges of fatherhood from a modern perspective. No "suck it up buttercup" or "emotions make you weak" from him! We delve into some big topics like aligning parenting styles with your partner - can it be done?, mothers' concerns about fathers causing emotional trauma with their harsh tactics, and the debate around gentle parenting and permissiveness.

Our conversation about how to raise boys who are both resilient and emotionally intelligent was one of the most powerful I've had. Dan offers practical advice and heartfelt insights and calls on fathers to step up to be more present and supportive in their families. Keep an ear out for Part 2 next week!

02 Jun 202432: Part 2 of Redefining Fatherhood with Daniel Franco00:49:45

Welcome back to our raw and enlightening conversation with the incredible Daniel Franco!

In this second part of our chat, we dive deep into the evolving world of fatherhood, focusing on emotional intelligence and the art of gentle parenting.

In this episode, we explore how today's dads can rise to the occasion, embracing fatherhood like never before—because our kids are counting on it.

We tackle the challenge many women face when their husbands seem to be on a different wavelength and discuss why forcing a change in their parenting approach is rarely effective.

Daniel and I also address a common misconception: that gentle parenting creates overly sensitive "snowflakes." We break down why this stereotype misses the mark and reveal the real secret to raising strong, resilient kids—and it's NOT what most dads think!

Join us for an uplifting, eye-opening discussion that will inspire and empower both mums and dads on their parenting journey.

You may be in burnout and not even realize it. Or maybe you're unwittingly teetering on the edge. I'm so glad you clicked on this episode.

Today's guest is Krysten Taprell, the brilliant mind behind The Therapist Parent accounts on Instagram and Facebook and a renowned Australian psychologist. 16 Jun 202434: Parenting Teens: How to Stay Connected Amid Risky Behaviour, Vaping, Phones and the TikTok Lifestyle, with Kirsten Cobabe.00:33:51

Are you raising teens or tweens?

In this episode of Emotionally Intelligent Parenting, join me for a heartfelt conversation with our guest, teen parent coach Kirsten Cobabe. Kirsten emphasizes the power of connection, explaining how having someone who truly sees and supports a teen can help them avoid or escape risky situations. She also shared her own story of navigating a dangerous relationship as a teen.

We delve into understanding rebellious and strong-willed teens, the importance of getting curious rather than furious, and why parents mustn't jump to conclusions or punish immediately. (Come on we know that never works, right!!) Kirsten also highlights the value of allowing teens to take safe risks and the critical role of truly listening. "Parents are not supposed to do this alone," she reminds us, as we learn practical strategies for staying connected with our teens amidst the challenges of vaping, smartphones, and the TikTok lifestyle.

I know you will take so much away from this chat, even if you're like me and don't yet have teens! We gotta be prepared, right? Enjoy - and follow Kirsten. Links below.

(Seriously, it's landing you in more power struggles and arguments than you'll ever realise!)

I cover handling the dreaded bedtime routine, toy cleanup, and meltdowns/tantrums way more effectively by making two simple shifts in your communication: explaining the situation and setting boundaries. Not rocket science, right?! But I'm betting you're not doing it 95% of the time.

This is almost a bit of a private coaching session with me! I get you to reflect on your habits, learn from specific scenarios, and discover how improved communication can create smoother, easier interactions with your kids. Tune in to make your words work wonders and strengthen your connection with your kids.

I share how to hold boundaries calmly yet firmly, and effective communication techniques, no matter your child's age. I also hone in on the struggle this parent had to keep calm and manage their emotions, to stop things from escalating. 14 Jul 202438: Respond Not React: Mastering Your Emotional Reactions.00:28:47

Join me in this week's episode of the Emotionally Intelligent Parenting Podcast, as we dive into the transformative concept of "Respond, Don't React" for parents (and couples!). In this episode, I’ll guide you through the simple ideas of this concept: using thoughtful and measured actions over impulsive (and often damaging) ones.

Like when you feel like yelling or spanking but instead you problem-solve and communicate clearly so the behaviour is NOT acceptable. I share about the importance of recognizing emotions, identifying triggers, and taking a moment to pause and reflect.

Learn how to choose a constructive response, communicate effectively, and practice empathy for smoother, more cooperative interactions.

Whether it's parenting or marital challenges, by starting to focus on responding, you'll be able to manage emotions better, improve relationships, and make wiser decisions in the heat of the moment. Yesss!

18 Aug 202442: Bedtime Meltdown: How I Turned Chaos into Calm with Co-regulation.00:28:34

In this solo episode of the Emotionally Intelligent Parenting Podcast, I dive into a recent bedtime meltdown with one of our kids that could have gone COMPLETELY off the rails. And a few years ago, it totally would have. But, instead of losing my cool or resorting to punishing her for yelling and being "rude", I chose a different approach - one rooted in patience, empathy, and emotional intelligence.

I take you through exactly how I managed to stay calm (wasn't easy), change my perspective on her behaviour (super helpful), and co-regulate with her until we both found our way back to peace.... and her into bed!

I also share practical tips and strategies you can use when your child is having a tough, emotionally charged moment. I like to think this episode is a heartfelt reminder that even in the most challenging times, we have the power to be the parents our children need.

Enjoy! Steph.

08 Oct 202449: Kids and Big Emotions: How to Dial Up Your Emotional Intelligence and Respond Calmly.00:21:37

In this solo episode, I’m talking about Kids and Big Emotions: How to Dial Up Your Emotional Intelligence and Respond Calmly.

Here’s the thing—before we can help our kids manage their emotions, we have to accept that they HAVE emotions. Emotions that are normal. Healthy. Natural. Supposed to be.

Remember when your child was learning to walk, read, or ride a bike? Did you step in and do it for them, rush them, or get annoyed when they didn’t get it right away? Or did you give them time, stay patient, and let them figure it out?!

It’s the same with emotions!

Kids need to feel their way through them in order to learn how to handle them. But we often jump in too quickly because it’s uncomfortable or inconvenient to let them ride the emotional wave. The truth is, when we allow them to go through those messy feelings, we’re giving them the tools for self-regulation.

I'll tell you the one thing you can do that will completely shift how you handle things the next time your child is crying, stomping, or having a meltdown.

I’ll also be sharing a viral quote of mine that really hit home for so many parents. Ready to approach those big emotions with more calm and confidence? Let’s get into it!

21 Oct 202451: How Emotional Intelligence Helped Us Navigate Our Kids' Unhealthy Friendship00:27:27

In this episode of the Emotionally Intelligent Parenting Podcast, I’m sharing a personal story from my own home - a REALLY challenging situation with my kids and a new “friend” in our neighbourhood who hasn’t been the best influence.

It started out innocently but went from dishonesty and aggressive behaviour to stealing... eek! So we recently faced some difficult moments as a family and had to figure out how to respond with both compassion and clear boundaries... not easy but necessary.

I’ll take you through how we approached the situation without resorting to punishment or blame, all while keeping the connection with our kids intact.

I know you’ll find it valuable to hear how you can guide your children through tough friendships, help them understand right from wrong, and build their emotional intelligence in the process.

If you’ve ever struggled with your child’s behaviour being influenced by others, this episode is for you. Let’s turn these moments into powerful teaching opportunities.

10 Nov 202456: How We Keep Our Kids Safe Online (Without Banning Everything!)00:27:57

Alex (the husband!) and I are getting real about the rollercoaster of raising kids in a world full of online games, social media, and YouTube.

We know the internet isn’t going anywhere, so instead of banning it all, we talk about finding that balance between letting our kids enjoy the digital world and keeping them safe.

We did make the decision to remove YouTube from our home, and we share why we chose to do it. But our kids do have access to computer games, Minecraft, Roblox, and so on.

Alex - who’s a big-time gamer - talks about setting smart boundaries for our kids on things like YouTube Kids and online games. His perspective as a gamer really adds a fresh angle, and he’s seriously got some solid tips.

Oh, and there's a wild story from Alex about how our son decided to jump off the roof (yes, you read that right!). It was a reminder of why staying aware and tuned in is so important, no matter what your kids are up to.

We also tackle the tougher topic of online dangers, like predators, and how to talk to kids about staying safe. You absolutely NEED to give your kids the knowledge, without scaring them.

Tune in for our take on raising tech-savvy kids safely—without saying “no” to everything fun.

24 Nov 202461: Mind Over Munchies: Raising Balanced Eaters and Building Healthy Food Relationships with Fiona Kane.00:33:28

Welcome back, everyone! This week, we're diving into a topic that hits home for so many of us: how we talk about food with our kids (and perhaps even around them when we think they’re not listening).

I’m joined by the fabulous Fiona Kane, an award-winning Nutritional Medicine Practitioner and Mind Body Eating Coach, and we explored how our words and attitudes around food can set the stage for our kids’ relationship with eating (and emotions!) - and yes, how we can keep it healthy too.

We’ll chat about the accidental ways we nudge our kids toward emotional eating (who knew?), how our own beliefs about food can rub off on them, and why asking open-ended questions can be a game-changer for a more mindful approach.

Fiona, who’s been all over Sky News Australia, 9 News, and ABC Radio, brings her practical tips on breaking habits like boredom eating and finding joy outside of food—for both us and the kids.

So, if you’re looking to raise happy, healthy eaters (or tackle a few food habits of your own), plug in!

This episode is packed with aha moments and doable steps to help the whole family enjoy a balanced relationship with food. I loved our conversation and I know you will too.

12 Nov 202457: The Art of Letting Go (Without Actually Letting Go) with Amy Sargent00:34:24

Have you ever wondered how to transition from managing your kids to supporting them as they grow into adults?

In this episode of the Emotionally Intelligent Parenting Podcast, I chat with Amy Sargent, SEI Coach and Executive Director of the Institute for Social and Emotional Intelligence. Amy shares how she used emotional intelligence with her older kids—owning her own feelings, creating space for their emotions, and still holding them accountable.

This conversation is packed with valuable insights for parents of both teens and tweens, as we explore how parenting roles shift and how emotional intelligence can help you become a supportive coach instead of a manager.

Tune in for practical tips on building strong relationships with your kids, cultivating empathy, and remembering that we’re not responsible for their emotions. Whether you’re parenting toddlers or preparing to launch your kids into adulthood, this episode is full of wisdom you won’t want to miss!

17 Nov 202459: How to Get The Happier, Calmer and Connected Family You Want With Emotional Intelligence00:36:40

Today I’m sharing an episode where I was the guest – being interviewed by JoAnn Crohn and Brie Tucker on the No Guilt Mom podcast.

So, you’ve decided you want a happier, calmer, and more connected family, eh? Well, friend, welcome to the rollercoaster ride known as “parenting with emotional intelligence.”

Parenting often involves navigating different styles, which, being 100% honest, can sometimes feel like you and your partner are in a three-legged race…on ice.

Emotional intelligence helps you understand each other’s perspectives and find common ground. Just imagine your kid having the ability to understand and manage their emotions while empathizing with others. Sounds like a dream, right?

By nurturing emotional intelligence, you’re not just preparing them for playground politics but equipping them for life’s bigger challenges. Plus, who wouldn’t want a kid who can articulate their feelings instead of falling apart or throwing things in fits of anger?

So, if you’re dreaming of a happier, calmer, and more connected family, emotional intelligence is your secret weapon. Trust me, the journey might be bumpy, but the destination is oh-so-worth it.

Who knows, you might even become that zen parent who handles those spaghetti-throwing incidents with a smile. Now, that’s emotional intelligence at work!

14 Nov 202458: Anxiety and Emotional Intelligence: From Overthinking to Overcoming.00:35:23

Today I’m pulling back the curtain on my own experience with anxiety and how I overcame it with Emotional Intelligence.

From my early years as a shy, anxious kid to the struggles it brought me as a teen and adult — especially when it came to school, confidence, and building my career — I’m sharing it all. Why? Because I know so many of you, whether as parents or individuals, are grappling with anxiety, too.

I explore the different types of anxiety disorders (yes, there’s more than one!) and dig into the problematic thinking patterns that underpin and fuel anxiety. This gives you such a clear window into seeing how an anxious child thinks and perceives the world around them.

Whether you’ve experienced anxiety yourself or you want to understand your kids through it, this episode is packed with insights, personal stories, and practical advice to help you build a life of calm and confidence.

19 Nov 202460: How We Failed As New Parents with Steph and Alex.00:26:16

Today, we're pulling back the curtain on our parenting - and let’s just say, it wasn’t all sunshine and Instagram-worthy moments.

This is a bunch of things we wish we knew when we first became parents...

With Alex's childhood blueprint and programming the *polar opposite* of mine, we had a lot to unlearn (and re-learn) when it came to navigating the chaos of parenthood together.

We talk about:

- How giving each other space saved us from spiralling arguments.

- Why you should never take your kids’ words, or your partner’s emotions, personally.

- Alex’s journey to taking accountability and breaking the cycle of reactive behaviour.

- My struggle to ask for help and express my feelings (spoiler: it wasn’t pretty).

- The power of understanding emotional hijacks and knowing when to step out of the situation

- How to “strike when the iron is cold.” to prevent shame, blame and basically more conflict.

We’ll also explore how his upbringing (where emotions basically didn't exist) impacted our dynamic and how we’ve worked to defuse problems before they explode into snapping and snowballing.

It’s real, raw, and maybe even a little uncomfortable—but if you’ve ever felt like you’re failing as a parent or partner, trust us, you’re not alone. Tune in for honest lessons, practical tips, and a whole lot of heart.

Hope you guys enjoy.

08 Dec 202464: When Meltdowns Turn Physical: How to Handle Hitting, Throwing, Kicking, And Keeping Your Cool00:22:38

This episode is inspired by a really thoughtful comment from a listener on our last episode over on YouTube.

They asked about one of the toughest parenting challenges: how to handle meltdowns when your child gets physically aggressive—hitting, kicking, or even breaking things.

Parenting through aggression and meltdowns is arguably the hardest thing we face.

Alex (the husband's back!) and I dive into the question from a listener: How do you handle it when a child melts down and gets physically aggressive?

We’re sharing our own experiences with this, including how we’ve navigated hitting, kicking, and even destructive behaviour using emotional intelligence and compassion.

We go through step-by-step strategies for handling those tough moments—like during transitions or when switching off a device—while holding firm boundaries around unsafe or hurtful actions.

We also clear up some big confusion around consequences: when they’re helpful, when they’re not, and why punishments and holding a grudge can actually backfire.

If you’ve ever struggled to keep your cool during your child’s meltdowns, this episode is full of relatable insights and practical tips to help you feel more calm and in control.

15 Dec 202465: Good Enough Parenting: Letting Go of Perfection and Comparison with Dr. Catherine Kizana00:34:23

In this inspiring episode, I sit down with Dr. Catherine Kizana—doctor, parent coach, and advocate for helping parents thrive—to talk about what it truly means to be a “good enough” parent.

Drawing on attachment research and her coaching experience, Catherine reminds us that parenting isn’t about being flawless. It’s about being present, embracing the power of repair when we make mistakes, and meeting our children’s real needs—not the ones we think we should meet.

We also tackle one of the biggest traps parents fall into: comparison.

Catherine shares how to stop comparing your inner struggles to the perfect-looking lives of others on social media and start focusing on what really matters in your family.

If you’re tired of the constant pressure to do more, be more, and keep up, this episode will help you step back, breathe, and parent from a place of connection and confidence.

Tune in now to take the first step in letting go of comparison and embracing the messy, beautiful journey of being “good enough". Yesss.

YAY! The kids are home for 6 WEEKS STRAIGHT for the summer school holidays! (For us in the southern hemisphere at least) 😩

If you've heard "I’m bored!" 5000 times already, you're in the right place. But this is still very much relevant if you're not on vacation but maybe you're heading on a road trip, or just home with the kids but you need to get some work done!

Today I'm talking about the challenge of managing kids’ boredom head-on. You’ll learn practical strategies to help your kids embrace downtime, spark creativity, and build independence, all while strengthening your connection as a family.

I explore:

Why boredom isn’t the enemy, it’s an opportunity.

Fun and creative ideas to keep kids engaged without breaking the bank.

How to involve kids in planning their days and encouraging independence.

The importance of balancing activity with rest (aka emptiness) for both you and your kids.

How emotional intelligence plays a role in tolerating and managing their whines and complaints (without losing your cool!).

Plus, I share how you can dive even deeper into building your parenting toolkit with my online courses.

This week, three of my most popular courses—From Reactive to Responsive Parenting, Decoding and Defusing Challenging Behaviour, and Supporting Anxious and Sensitive Kids—are on sale for 50–61% off!

Don’t miss out - check them out at www.stephaniepinto.com/courses.

Tune in for tips, laughs, and encouragement to help you navigate the holiday season with confidence. You’ve got this!

👉 Don’t forget to subscribe, share this episode, and let me know which tip you’ll try first!

01 Jan 202567: Meltdowns and Shutdowns: The Neuroscience Behind Extreme Dysregulation00:38:28

Does your child or teen ever lash out, shut down, or completely refuse to listen? Maybe you’ve tried timeouts, threats, or punishments, but they just don’t work—or worse, they seem to make things even harder. Sound familiar?

Here’s the thing: those big emotional outbursts are NOT about being “naughty” or “willful.” There’s so much more happening under the surface, in their brain and body, and that’s exactly what we’re diving into today.

Today I’ll help you understand what’s *really* going on when your child is argumentative, explosive, or just plain "rude", why some of those old-school parenting tactics aren’t helpful, and, most importantly, how you can use positive strategies to co-regulate with them to bring their emotions back in balance and support their behaviour.

If you’re ready to feel less overwhelmed and more connected to your child, you’re in the right place.

And as I mentioned in the episode, I created a course specifically for this topic and these challenges. It's called Defusing and Decoding Challenging Behaviour, and it covers how understanding the nervous system of your child gives you the tools you need to navigate (and even often avoid) really challenging/disruptive behaviours.

One parent who took the course emailed me within minutes of finishing the course saying: "STEPH. This is by far the BEST course I have taken, I finally get why my son erupts and goes off, and I feel like I have a whole bag of tools to deal with it! Thank you so so much. I'm recommending it to all my friends!"

07 Jan 202568: Early Warning Signs: How to Spot Dysregulation in Your Kids.00:36:11

Today I'm sharing about the fascinating (and sometimes baffling) world of early warning signs of dysregulation in kids.

Have you ever noticed your child getting overly silly, suddenly antagonizing their sibling, or making strange noises like growling or hissing?

These little quirks aren’t random. They’re often signs that your child is beginning to feel emotionally overwhelmed or out of sync.

When you learn to recognise these subtle cues, you can step in with calm and supportive strategies that help prevent meltdowns, build connection, and teach emotional resilience.

Plus, a special guest makes an unexpected appearance! My daughter video-bombs the intro with some dance moves and plenty of giggles, so if you’re watching on YouTube, you’re in for a treat. You're welcome ;)

(Watch at youtube.com/c/StephaniePinto)

Tune in to learn the signs of emotional overwhelm by finding clues in your child's (frustrating) behaviour.

26 Jan 202571: Tough Kids vs. Snowflakes: The Science of Raising Resilient Humans with Tim Curtis.00:43:23

💪 Are some people just naturally more resilient? Or is resilience something we can actually build? And what if we’ve been thinking about stress and adversity all wrong when it comes to raising kids?

Today on the Emotionally Intelligent Parenting Podcast, I’m joined by Tim Curtis—former Aussie SAS Squadron Commander, resilience expert, and co-author of The Resilience Shield. Tim has spent years leading high-stakes military operations, consulting for the UN, and now helping people understand what actually makes us resilient.

And trust me, his insights will challenge everything you thought you knew. Sorry!

We speak about:

🛡 The science of resilience—how much is genetic, and how much can we change?

⚖️ Why kids actually need some stress and adversity to grow stronger

🚁 The downside of helicopter and bulldozer parenting

💡 The key factors that build resilience: mindset, social connections, and physical health

Also he’s given us all free access to his online resilience assessment you can take today!

Tim brings fascinating research, real-life stories, and game-changing insights on how to help both ourselves and our kids become more resilient.

If you want to raise strong, adaptable, and confident kids (and build your own resilience while you’re at it), this episode is a must-listen! 🎧✨

19 Jan 202570: Permission to Feel: Busting the Biggest Myths About Emotional Intelligence with Prof. Marc Brackett00:32:21

Is emotional intelligence making kids “soft”? Or is it actually the secret to raising strong, resilient humans? 🤔

And here’s another big question — are some emotions “bad,” or do they all serve a purpose? Today’s guest is here to set the record straight— and he does it with brains, humour, and a whole lot of real talk!

In this wildly insightful (and surprisingly hilarious) conversation, I chat with Professor Marc Brackett, the founding director of Yale’s Centre for Emotional Intelligence and author of Permission to Feel. We talk about:

🎭 Marc’s childhood & the mentor who changed his life

❄️ Why EI isn’t about raising “snowflakes”

🔬 What it means to be an “emotion scientist”

🏡 How parents can teach emotional intelligence—even if they weren’t raised that way

🔥 Handling your own emotions when your kids are losing it

Marc is real, funny, and super smart, and this episode will leave you rethinking everything you thought you knew about emotions.

02 Feb 202572: Stop Being Hijacked By Your Emotions: 10 Lessons in Emotional Intelligence Every Parent Needs to Know.00:41:46

Most of us were never taught how to handle our emotions... we were just told to "calm down" or "stop overreacting."

But here’s the truth: all emotions are okay, not all behaviour is. And as parents, the way we handle our emotions directly shapes how our kids learn to manage theirs.

Today on the Emotionally Intelligent Parenting podcast, I’m sharing 10 powerful lessons about emotions:

How to work with them instead of against them, how to stop stress from taking over, and how to develop the emotional intelligence you need to parent with confidence, calm, and connection. Stop taking things personally, stop believing there are bad emotions, and stop thinking your kids' emotions are out of control (even when it really seems like they are!)

Because let’s be real... if we don’t learn to handle our emotions, they’ll handle us. 🫣

13 Feb 202574: A Little Rant (The Double Standards in Emotional Intelligence)00:10:33

We all want our kids to be emotionally intelligent, right? Buuut are we actually teaching it in a way that helps them thrive?

In this episode, I let loose a mini-rant (sorry not sorry) about some common myths and misconceptions that are sending mixed messages about emotions to our kids - without us even realising it.

🤔 We tell kids to “calm down” when they’re upset, but do we always model calmness when everything goes wrong?

🤔 We expect them to “use their words,” but are we showing them how?

🤔 The truth is, emotional intelligence isn’t just something we teach... it’s something our kids learn from us.

Join me as I share simple, powerful ideas that can help us guide our kids through big emotions, build REAL connection, and create a home where feelings are understood, not shut down.

No guilt, no pressure. Just an honest chat (aka rant) about how we can show up as the emotional leaders our kids need.

Let’s rethink the way we teach emotional intelligence - starting today. 💛

Share with someone you know might find this helpful or insightful!

Steph.

Welcome to the Emotionally Intelligent Parenting podcast,

I’m Stephanie Pinto. I’m an Aussie mum of 2, a best-selling author, international speaker and award-winning coach… And I love all things Emotional Intelligence and parenting.

Although we’re far from perfect as parents and our kids still have big emotions from time to time, meltdowns are few and far between.

Compassion, listening and problem-solving are our go-to strategies when things go sideways, and our home is a really nice place to be.

Oh and, our house is a punishment-free zone!!

We’re only able to do all of this because we’ve learnt to handle our own emotions, we understand our kids’ emotions and behaviour, and we work together to solve problems as a team.

10 Feb 202573: Soulful Single Parenting: How to Thrive as a Solo Parent with Dr. Gila.00:38:35

Parenting is always challenging, but doing it solo comes with its own set of unique hurdles that can feel utterly overwhelming at times.

In this episode, I chat with the amazing Dr. Gila - a single parent coach, psychologist, neuropsychologist, and a single mum who’s been through it all.

We dig into why single parents need supportive spaces (no one should have to do this alone) and explore the unique challenges and unexpected joys of raising kids solo.

Dr. Gila gets real about the pressure to be perfect and why letting go of that myth can be one of the best gifts you give yourself and your kids.

And let’s get into the buzzword of the moment: self-care. Dr. Gila introduces her practical “sink model” for managing emotions, showing us why it’s not about the one drop that overflows but the build-up that leads to it.

Learn how to spot when your sink is filling up and what true self-care looks like when you’re already stretched thin.

If you’re a single parent or know someone who is, this episode is packed with insights, practical tips, and the reassurance that you’re not in this alone.

We can tackle the messy, beautiful chaos of single parenting—together.

05 Mar 202577: Parenting Neurodivergent Kids Without Punishment or Power Struggles with Marissa Taylor00:35:17

This week, I’m joined by the incredible Marissa Taylor, an Aussie, a passionate advocate for neurodivergent children and a mum to five neurodivergent kiddos.

She shares how emotional intelligence has completely changed her parenting and why so many neurodivergent children are being missed, dismissed, or even punished in schools - simply for being themselves.

We also dive into:

✨ The lens shift parents and teachers need to truly support neurodivergent kids (hello, Dr. Ross Greene!)

✨ Why the mainstream school system often fails kids emotionally and academically

✨ Why so many parents are turning to homeschooling (and whether it might be right for you)

✨ PDA: Pathological Demand Avoidance (or Persistent Drive for Autonomy!), what it is and how to parent a PDA kiddo

✨ How Marissa courageously navigates burnout as an ND family - such profound message in there.

This episode is packed with insights, eye-openers, and of course emotional intelligence at the heart of it all. Whether you're a parent, teacher, or just someone who wants to understand neurodiversity better, you neeeed this conversation in your life.

16 Feb 202575: The Truth About Rewards, Stars, Stickers, and Points with Megg Thompson00:52:21

Are We Training Kids to Perform? The Truth About Rewards, Behaviour & Connection with Megg Thompson.

We’ve all used them—sticker charts, gold stars, rewards for good behaviour. But what if these systems aren’t actually helping kids grow? What if they’re just training them to comply? (And then when we're not around, they stop "performing" because the motivation was never really theirs to begin with...)

In this episode, I sit down with Megg Thompson, a former Kindergarten teacher turned neuro-affirming Certified Behavior Consultant and Life Coach, to unpack the real impact of rewards and compliance-based parenting and teaching.

We dive into:

✨ Why kids "hold it together" at school but melt down at home

✨ The hidden problems with reward charts and behavior incentives

✨ Why compliance shouldn’t be the goal—and what to focus on instead

✨ How traditional discipline alienates neurodivergent and struggling kids

✨ What actually works to build cooperation, trust, and connection

Megg brings her signature humour and deep insight to a conversation that will challenge what you think you know about kids’ behaviour.

Also, she made me keep in the drunk-squirrel moments she and I had around 22-23 min mark - enjoy listening to us rack our brains when she lost her train of thought!

If you're ready to shift from power-over to partnership, ditch the rewards, and start building real, lasting connection with your kids—this episode is a must-listen.

23 Feb 202576: The Legendary Alfie Kohn on Time-Outs, Accidental Manipulation and 'Motivating' Kids.00:34:09

Ok - big moment you guys. I’m excited (and somewhat embarrassed!) to share this special conversation with you—one that originally aired back in 2022 in my Facebook community Let's Raise Emotionally Intelligent Kids.

Looking back, I can’t help but cringe! I was SO nervous and excited to be speaking with the universal expert on parenting, education, and human behaviour: Alfie Kohn.

Let’s just say I wasn’t as polished or professional as I am now… but the insights and wisdom? They’re just as powerful today as they were then.

Alfie Kohn, renowned author of Punished by Rewards, No Contest, The Homework Myth, and my personal favourite, Unconditional Parenting, (plus many others!) brings his groundbreaking research and passion for progressive education to this chat.

In this episode, we dive into:

🔍 Why rewards can be just as harmful as punishments for children.

💡 What people really mean when they say, "I want to motivate my child" (spoiler: it’s often about compliance).

🎭 The hidden problems with praise—especially those high-pitched, "good job!" moments.

🚫 The true impact of time-outs and forcible isolation on kids’ emotional well-being.

One of the most profound ideas we explored? The belief that we need to reinforce kids to behave a certain way. This comes from a hidden assumption that children aren’t naturally inclined to do well on their own—and it’s time we rethink that.

I’m so grateful Alfie agreed to let me share this conversation here on the podcast—it’s one you won’t want to miss.

10 Mar 202578: Why Your Child Lies (and How All The Parenting Advice We Get Is WRONG!!)00:30:29

🚨 Your child just lied. STOP. Ignore all the advice you’ve ever been given! 🚨

Have you ever caught your child in a lie and thought, “Why would they lie about something so small??” Or maybe you worry about your teen lying about the big stuff, vaping, sneaking out, or who they’re really with at night? You’re not alone.

Here’s the truth (lol, pun intended): Lying isn’t just a ‘kid problem’, it’s human nature.

You’ve done it, I’ve done it, we all have. But the way we react when our kids lie will shape their honesty for life. And spoiler alert: Most of us are doing it wrong.

In this episode, I’m breaking down:

✅ The real reasons kids lie (hint: fear, shame, and disappointment play a huge role!)

✅ What NOT to do when you catch your child lying (you can totally avoid these common mistakes)

✅ How to actually build a home where honesty feels safe, not scary 🩷

Because let’s be real. Your child WILL mess up. It’s inevitable. The question is: Will they trust you enough to tell you the truth?

It's a solo one today, you've just got me 😉 Enjoy!

16 Mar 202579: Your Kid Isn’t the Problem - The Power Struggle Is Sabotaging Your Parenting with Vivek Patel.00:45:23

What if parenting didn’t have to be a battle of wills? And wouldn't it be nice to welcome your child's "no!" instead of it igniting a power struggle?! I feel you.

Today on the Emotionally Intelligent Parenting Podcast, I sit down with Vivek Patel, founder of Meaningful Ideas, to explore what some call a radical yet deeply effective approach—Noncoercive Collaborative Parenting.

Vivek shares why kids resist us more when they trust us less - and how the common fallback to coercion damages that trust.

But instead of simply telling us what not to do, Vivek offers clear, practical steps for building a relationship where cooperation flows naturally.

We dive into:

✨ The "Model, Guide, Friend" framework and how it can transform your parenting.

✨ Why hearing “no” from our kids feels so triggering and how to embrace it as a gift.

✨ How to teach kids to set boundaries and resist peer pressure, without controlling them.

✨ Debunking the myth that noncoercive parenting raises “soft snowflakes” or kids who walk all over us.

✨ Inspiring through values—and the importance of knowing and living your own.

Vivek also shares his personal journey of raising his now-28-year-old daughter this way—despite being raised in a home filled with control and coercion. His insights are powerful, practical, and guaranteed to shift the way you think about guiding your child.

💡 One of Vivek’s most powerful reminders:

“When your child says no, say: ‘Thank you so much for telling your truth.’” Mindblowing?! Yup. Have you ever tried it? Probably not. Radical, powerful - TRY IT.

If you’re ready to move beyond power struggles and create a parenting approach built on trust, connection, and collaboration—this episode is for you.

23 Mar 202580: Dr. Mona Delahooke On What's REALLY Driving Your Child's Big Behaviours.00:29:42

Ever hear people throw around terms like “fight, flight, freeze,” “nervous system,” or “relational safety” and think… what are they actually talking about? Yep, me too.

As a parent (and someone who works with families), I didn’t really understand what those phrases meant... until I came across Mona Delahooke’s work. And let me tell you, once I did, everything about my kids’ behaviour suddenly made a LOT more sense!

In this special re-release of our 2022 interview, Mona - who’s a clinical psychologist with over 30 years of experience - breaks down the science behind those frustrating, baffling behaviours our kids send our way.

But this isn’t just theory—Mona shares practical, real-life strategies to help you stay calm and support your child when they’re overwhelmed.

This conversation feels even more meaningful today because, in 2023, Mona survived a brain aneurysm—an experience that’s led her to slow down and prioritize her health. I feel so lucky we still have her voice and wisdom to learn from, and I’m beyond grateful to share this life-changing conversation with you.

In this episode, we dive into:

✅ Why your child’s “bad behaviour” is often a sign their nervous system is in distress

✅ How understanding the brain makes parenting so much easier (and less stressful!)

✅ Simple, effective ways to respond without yelling, punishing, or losing your cool

If you’re ready to stop feeling frustrated and start feeling empowered, this one’s for you.

30 Mar 202581: 11 Hidden Triggers Your Child Has - How to Spot Them and Defuse Them with Emotional Intelligence.00:31:18

Hi all, today on the Emotionally Intelligent Parenting podcast I'm diving deep into a game-changing topic that will profoundly shift the way you view your child's behaviour: HIDDEN TRIGGERS.

Have you ever had a moment when your child or teen suddenly melts down over what seems like nothing? One moment they're fine, but the next, it's chaos over the "wrong" snack, the innocent question you asked, or a change in plans. You're left wondering, "What the heck just happened?!" Yep. I've been there too.

So today, I'm letting you in on the truth: your kids aren't being difficult; they're responding to unseen triggers that their brains and nervous systems register long before they can articulate their feelings.

Imagine if you could spot these triggers before they escalate into emotional blow-ups?! That’s the power of emotional intelligence in parenting! Trust me.

Today I've got 11 hidden triggers that can sneakily and instantly impact your child’s emotions and behaviour, along with a few practical solutions for each that you can implement right away to support them in a more emotionally intelligent way. I explore everything from sensory overload and hunger to the effects of parental stress and overwhelming expectations.

You'll hear about:

  • Overstimulation and sensory sensitivities
  • "Hangry” meltdowns
  • Keeping your kids hydrated (seriously!)
  • Creating a supportive emotional climate that models self-regulation
  • How to create smoother transitions between activities
  • Perceived injustices (definitely a hidden trigger for many kids!)
  • Physical discomforts and pain that you can't see
  • Adjusting your expectations to fit their developmental level (NOT age)
  • Conflict exposure
  • And the last one I'll keep a secret cause it's my ultimate favourite - sorry not sorry!

Here's where you can really deepen your emotional intelligence and see the results... less conflict, fewer arguments, reduced yelling - seriously! And more calm, connection, and understanding.

Tune in and let me give you a few more tools to navigate your kids' big emotions with grace and emotional intelligence.

13 Apr 202583: "Why Am I So Angry at My Kids?”: You're Not Broken, You're Repeating Cycles, with Shelly Robinson.00:35:00

Have you ever found yourself snapping at your kids and then sinking into a wave of guilt, thinking, “I swore I’d be different!!!” 😭

In this powerful and heart-opening episode of the Emotionally Intelligent Parenting Podcast, I’m joined by Shelly Robinson, conscious parenting coach and founder of Raising Yourself.

We’re diving deep into the life-changing work of reparenting—what it really means, why it’s so essential, and how it helps you respond to your kids with calm and compassion instead of reacting from old wounds.

You’ll hear the raw story of a mum I coached who broke down mid-session, struggling with her anger and shame. And if that feels familiar—if your reactions feel bigger than the moment—you are not alone.

Together, Shelly and I explore:

🩷 How despite all the effort we give, we cannot rely on willpower alone to parent consciously

🩷 Why reparenting your inner child is the key to breaking generational patterns

🩷 The truth about anger (and what it’s really trying to tell us)

🩷 How to let go of guilt and lean into self-compassion

🩷 A gentle guided inner child reparenting exercise you can do with us.

And don’t miss Shelly’s one-liner that might just shift your whole perspective:

🌟 "Your parents have an inner child too."

If you’re ready to feel less reactive, more in control, and truly seen in your parenting journey, this one’s for YOU.

06 Apr 202582: So You Lost Your Sh*t. Now Learn the Real Way to Repair (and Teach Your Kids How To) with Emotional Intelligence.00:24:10

Messing up as a parent: It’s not IF, it’s WHEN. 😅

Trust me, even I mess up and I speak on Emotional Intelligence daily, I run conferences on it, I have courses and a book on it... so let me give you permission to lose your cool too!!

However - we DO need to talk about the messy, completely normal experience of losing your cool, whether it’s yelling at the kids, snapping at your partner, or going quiet and shutting down. Especially what to do AFTER the blow-up, and how to handle it with your kids.

Because emotional intelligence isn’t about being calm all the time. It’s about learning how to repair, reconnect, and actually teach our kids to do the same.

I talk about:

💥 Why it’s 100% human to lose your cool sometimes

🧠 What’s going on in your brain and body when you snap or shut down

❤️ How to do a proper repair (not just a quick “sorry”)

🧒🏼 How to TEACH your kids to repair when they muck up too

😶 And what to do if you’re someone who goes quiet after conflict

If you’ve ever ended the day thinking, “Ugh, why did I do that…”, this one’s for you.

Let’s normalise the mess-ups and get really good at the bounce-back. 💛 Steph.
