27 Aug 202481: How to Wear Non-traditional Wedding Dresses00:26:06

Have you ever considered breaking away from the classic white bridal gown?

Today, we are discussing the non-traditional wedding dress, a trend that has been gaining more and more attention lately.

So, if you are a bride looking to stand out, this discussion is just for you!

Defining Non-Traditional Wedding Dresses

A non-traditional wedding dress can be anything that is not from a wedding dress designer or dresses made by bridal designers that are not white. Historically, brides wore their best dresses, which were not necessarily white, and a shift is happening back to this mindset.

The Appeal of Non-Traditional Dresses

Non-traditional dresses can be more budget-friendly, allowing brides more freedom to expresstheir personalities uniquely.  Vintage dresses are growing in popularity due to their versatility and accessibility and the influence of social media trends.

Acceptable Colors for Wedding Dresses

Colors other than white, such as blush, silver, prints, and florals, are becoming more popular lately. Choosing a different color can make a bold statement that reflects the bride's personality.

Choosing the Right Color

The wedding dress color can influence the entire color palette of the wedding, making it a crucial decision. Brides should start with a shade that flatters their complexion while considering the wedding setting and overall vibe.

Accessories to Elevate the Non-Traditional Look

Brides can elevate a non-traditional wedding look with accessories that blend modern elements with timeless bridal touches. A well-chosen veil can instantly bring a bridal essence to any outfit. Gloves are making a stylish comeback. They add alayer of sophistication and a nod to classic bridal fashion. Statement jewelrycan also enhance the overall look, bridging the gap between unconventional attire and the traditional bridal aesthetic.

Practical Challenges

When brides choose to wear a non-traditional dress, it can be overwhelming as there are so many different options. When they opt for a non-traditional outfit, brides must be prepared for differing opinions from family and friends and stay confident in their choices.

Handling Opinions

The bride's opinion is the most important, especially if she pays for the dress. However, if someone else is financing the dress, the bride should consider their preferences. Crowdfunding could offer a different yet practical solution for making the dream dress affordable.

Personal Favorites

Julie loves the idea of a sleek, modern jumpsuit paired with classic accessories like a veil and gloves to create a unique bridal feel. Dee is drawn to colored gowns that break away from the classic white, especially when paired with bold, statement jewelry to make the look truly stand out.

Advice for Finding a Non-Traditional Dress

Understand yourself and what makes you feel great. Explore what resonates with you while avoiding choices that might lead to regret. Find a dress that speaks to you, ensuring you feel confident and beautiful.

Conclusion

Consider non-traditional wedding dresses to reflect your true self. Explore unique options, stay confident in your choices, and use accessories to create a bridal look that is uniquely yours.

06 Feb 202461: Be Your Own Muse00:21:10

We are excited to dive into what it means to be your own bridal muse today!

In this episode, we get into ways to find inspiration within yourself instead of relying on external sources.

This topic is very close to our hearts! Join us as we explore the concept of being your own muse during your bridal journey.

The Concept of Being Your Own Muse

With all the opinions flying around and images bombarding you as you go through your engagement and wedding planning process, it is crucial to look within yourself for inspiration. Our experience has shown us that brides do not always get this advice, yet it makes an enormous difference. Trust us- you have all the info you need inside yourself!

Personal Style

Focusing on your personal style is a game-changer! Personal style is not one-dimensional. It is a unique blend of elements encompassing various layers and reflecting different sides of our personalities. Often, we simplify it as either classic or boho, but the reality is far more intricate.

The Style Cocktail Method

We have been using a strategy we refer to as the Style Cocktail method with our clients for many years to help them break down their personal style, wedding style, body type, and budget. We compare personal style to a cocktail with a base, mixer, and a splash of something extra. In Julie’s upcoming book, Dressed, Styled, and Down the Aisle, she has dedicated an entire chapter to the Cocktail Style method. You can think of it as the key to unlocking your personal preferences, and it works like a charm!

Closet Analysis

Time to raid your closet, ladies! Look closely at the colors, fabrics, and embellishments you naturally lean toward. It will be like having your closet tell you a story about your style.

Body Shape Exploration

To define your body shape and confirm what makes you feel fabulous, check out the necklines, skirt shapes, and sleeve lengths you prefer.

Instagram

In addition to your closet, your Instagram feed can spill some of your style secrets. To make the most of Instagram, look for hashtags, designer profiles, and real brides for inspiration. It is a goldmine when used strategically.

Strategic Use of Pinterest

Use specific search terms and be as detailed as possible when using Pinterest. Pin anything that catches your eye, and then step back. When you return a day or two later, edit your board and notice the trends. The key is spotting your top designers and trends.

Planning for Dress Appointments

Now that you have armed yourself with your Style Cocktail insights and a killer Pinterest board, it is time to prepare for your dress appointments. Go to your first appointment with a clear view of your preferences, but remain open to new ideas. Get to know the names or style numbers of the dresses you are after, and look for local stores carrying those dresses. Being as efficient and specific as possible will save you time and make the entire process smoother.

In our next episode, we will dive into scheduling and making appointments. Stay tuned, and happy hunting!

03 Apr 202467: Coordinating Looks for Same-Sex Couples00:25:11

Today, we are excited to dive into coordinating looks for same-sex couples.

We believe love is love in all its forms, and we take pride in being a supportive resource for every type of person and couple. While we typically use terms like bride and groom, our view of marriage is inclusive and open-minded, and we encourage everyone to embrace whichever role feels right for them, regardless of their gender.

Join us as we explore the endless possibilities of blending love with style!

Navigating Fashion Choices for Same-Sex Couples

In our industry, we have to break away from traditional terms like bride and groom as we work more and more with same-sex couples. In the past, people have asked if our company, The Stylish Bride, is exclusively for brides. That has allowed us to share and showcase all the diverse and wonderful people we have supported and styled for their wedding journeys.

Coordinating Looks for Two Brides

When working with two brides, it is crucial to understand their preferences for coordinating or being different. The first step is deciding how they want their outfits to complement each other, whether through similar floral details, garment styles, or other elements. Communication and alignment on these preferences are most important.

Shopping Together or Separately

Couples deciding whether to shop together or separately is another essential aspect. If a couple opts for shopping together, we advise them to focus on only one of them at a time to ensure a personalized experience. We also suggest considering formality, comfort, and timelines for their orders.

Coordinating Looks for Two Grooms

Men typically have a more limited selection of clothing, usually pants, jackets, shirts, suits, and tuxedos. The first step is deciding on the formality level of the event. For black tie events, matching or complementary tuxedos is a common choice, and for more relaxed events, suits usually work best.

Relaxed Dress Codes for Men

When men select a relaxed dress code, coordinating colors or fabrics while allowing for individual touches, like different accessories or subtle variations, can go a long way in creating a cohesive yet personalized appearance. Choosing a color palette where outfits complement each other rather than clash is crucial. That means avoiding stark contrasts in fabric type or color intensity and selecting complementary hues and fabric weights instead.

Final Thoughts

Ultimately, the key to coordinating looks for same-sex couples lies in open communication, understanding individual preferences, and finding ways to balance cohesion and personal expression. Whether shopping together or separately, prioritizing comfort and authenticity ensures a memorable and meaningful wedding experience.

31 Jan 202460: I'm Engaged! Now What?00:17:10

Today, we are excited to dive into what to do after you have become engaged.

In this episode, we will guide you through your wedding timeline, explaining which steps to take first and sharing our top-notch tips for your wedding dress search.

Join us for all the knowledge you need to begin this beautiful chapter of your life with style and grace.

Evolution of Bridal Fashion

In the past, brides had limited resources. Today, brides have to deal with an information overload and social media pressure, which adds a complex new layer to choosing a unique and fashionable wedding dress.

The Influence of Social Media

The pressures of meeting social media standards and societal expectations and the desire to look nothing less than perfect in front of a big audience have become a big concern for modern brides. The overwhelming barrage of online images can also make it very hard for brides to envision whether or not a dress will suit them.

Shopping Challenges

The overwhelming amount of available information on the internet, coupled with uncertainty about where to begin, often paralyzes brides, and online shopping further complicates their decision-making process.

Navigating Timelines

Brides need to have a wedding timeline. They should start with their wedding dress and then choose the outfits for the bridesmaids before thinking about what their mother should wear. They also need to focus on the season and consider the weather on their wedding day when selecting an outfit for their mother.

Fashion Timeline Breakdown

Julie prefers to break the timeline down into quarters when guiding brides on when to focus on the different aspects of their wedding timeline. She explains that the timeline should always be flexible to allow for any unforeseen circumstances that may arise.

Comfort is Key

Julie’s top tip for brides is to prioritize their comfort. She believes that brides should never sacrifice their comfort for fashion because it is essential for brides to be physically and mentally comfortable to enjoy their wedding day fully.

Understand Your Style

Di’s top tip for brides is to understand their own style before starting their wedding dress search. She encourages brides to stay true to their preferences rather than succumbing to trends or celebrity inspirations.

02 Jul 202477: How to Properly Wear Red to a Wedding00:15:20

Did you know there is no inherent reason to avoid wearing red to weddings?

Red is a bold and beautiful color. However, there are several things to consider when wearing it to weddings. So, in this episode, we dive into the most suitable ways to wear red appropriately and tastefully when going to a wedding.

Wearing Red to a Wedding

When considering wearing something red to a wedding, it is essential to keep a few guidelines in mind to ensure it will be appropriate for the event.

Cultural Sensitivity

You may need to avoid wearing red to a wedding if it may conflict with cultural norms. So, before choosing to wear red to a wedding, especially one where your cultural traditions may differ, it is crucial to research and understand the significance of red within that culture. (For example, in the Chinese culture, red is traditionally reserved for the bride.)

Respect the Preferences of the Couple

Always consider the preferences of the couple getting married. If you are unsure about wearing red, it is always best to reach out and inquire first. Some couples may welcome bold fashion choices, while others may prefer guests to adhere to a more traditional dress code to maintain the atmosphere of the wedding.

Dress Appropriateness

Opt for a red dress that aligns with the formality and style of the wedding. Avoid overly revealing or casual attire. Choose well-tailored, sophisticated outfits in quality fabrics to maintain elegance and ensure that your attire complements rather than distracts from the wedding celebration.

Incorporating Red as an Accent

If you love red but are hesitant about wearing it prominently, consider incorporating it as an accent. Accessories like a red belt, shoes, or jewelry can add a pop of color without dominating your outfit. Combining red with other colors, like pink, can create a balanced and festive look suitable for a wedding.

Seasonal Considerations

Consider the season and setting of the wedding when choosing your red attire. Deeper shades like burgundy are ideal for fall and winter weddings, while lighter fabrics, like linen, can make red more appropriate for summer events. Adjusting the hue and fabric of your outfit can help ensure it harmonizes with the wedding theme.

Confidence and Consideration

Above all, wear your chosen outfit with confidence and consideration for the couple and the occasion. If you are doubtful about your attire drawing too much attention or getting perceived inappropriately, it is best to err on the side of caution. Always aim to celebrate the couple while feeling comfortable and stylish in whatever you choose to wear.

04 Jun 202475: Behind the Pages with Julie Sabatino00:22:23

Today, we are thrilled to explore the process behind Julie’s new book, Dressed, Styled, and Down the Aisle: Becoming a Stylish Bride, which has already achieved Amazon Best Seller status.

Join us as we dive into the inspiration, challenges, and insights behind Julie's journey toward creating this essential guide for brides-to-be.

Excitement About the Book Release

Julie and Dee are super-excited about the release of Dressed, Styled, and Down the Aisle: Becoming a Stylish Bride. Julie finds it quite surreal to finally have the book come to fruition after many years of anticipation and hard work.

Overwhelming support

Julie is thrilled and humbled by the overwhelming support and pre-orders, which have surpassed all her expectations.

Writing Process and Origin of the Idea

A publisher approached Julie several years ago to write a book, but the project did not get going. Then, about three years ago, as her business grew and she gained more knowledge, the idea of writing the book resurfaced, and Julie felt a strong desire to share her expertise and help as many women as possible.

Encouragement and Making it Happen

Julie's decision to start writing the book solidified during her morning walks with her husband, who encouraged her to take action. His support pushed her to keep going, so she began to write earnestly.

Overcoming Her Writing Challenges

Initially, Julie struggled with self-doubt, unsure if anyone would be interested in her work. Her writing process was further complicated by her dyslexia, making spelling and editing particularly difficult. She also had to balance her desire to provide practical, actionable advice with the anxiety of ensuring her words could not get misconstrued. Addressing various body types and sizes in the bridal industry added another layer of difficulty, requiring her to be inclusive and considerate of different experiences. Despite those obstacles, Julie wanted to create a resource to empower and support brides, so she eventually employed a ghostwriter to help her complete the book.

Including Diverse Perspectives

Inclusivity was a key consideration for Julie, who revised the book to address the unique challenges petite women and other body types tend to face. Feedback from colleagues and her commitment to diversity ensured the book catered to all brides.

The Timeline and Practical Tools

Julie wanted to ensure her book was actionable and practical, so she included a detailed timeline for fashion-related wedding preparations. She also created resource guides and a fillable timeline on her website to help brides plan effectively.

Encouragement for Brides

The core message in the book is that brides are perfect as they are. Julie reminds brides that their partners chose them for who they are and that the wedding is about their love rather than achieving a particular look or standard.

Giveaway Announcement

Julie is launching an exciting giveaway on Instagram on June 5th, where listeners can win a signed copy of her book, an emergency care kit, and many other exciting goodies.

15 Oct 202485: 20 Years, 20 Questions with the Original Bridal Stylist00:26:20

We are celebrating 20 years of the Stylish Bride today!

Join us as we mark this momentous milestone in today's special episode by looking back on the best moments, untold stories, and the lessons we learned over the past two decades, with Julie answering twenty questions from our listeners and industry friends, one for each of the twenty years.

Inspiration Behind The Stylish Bride

Julie struggled to find her wedding dress in 2001. That challenge planted the seed for her to start The Stylish Bride, as she recognized that brides need non-biased advice and resources.

What The Stylish Bride Means to Julie

Julie feels deeply tied to her work and is proud of how it has shaped her life and career. After 20 years, The Stylish Bride has become a core part of her identity.

Expectations vs. Reality in Business

If JULIE could go back in time, she would change her expectations. She initially believed her idea would lead to instant success, even though she knew businesses generally take years to become profitable.

Changes in the Bridal Industry

The bridal industry evolved since Julie started The Stylish Bride in 2001 when no one even knew what a stylist was. Julie credits shows like The Rachel Zoe Project for bringing the role of a stylist into the mainstream. The rise of social media also dramatically changed how the industry operates.

Lessons Learned the Hard Way

Managing emotions through tough times has been a big lesson for Julie. Over the last 20 years, she has learned to stay even-tempered throughout all the highs and lows of running a business.

Staying Motivated and Inspired

Julie stays motivated by constantly creating new ideas, solving problems, and maintaining long-standing relationships with clients and designers. She loves the excitement and creativity her work requires.

Wedding Day Wisdom

Julie wishes she had designated someone other than her mom to bustle her wedding dress. That was unavailable at the time but has since become standard. Looking back, she sees that as an essential service for brides.

Bridal Trends

Julie loves the elegance of the Watteau train, while she secretly wishes the tiara trend would fade, despite having worn one herself. She was not a fan of the colored belt trend 15 years ago.

Dress Styles That Always Impress

Julie has found that an A-line gown with a long, lean silhouette never fails to make brides feel amazing. It is a timeless favorite as it flatters women of all shapes and sizes.

Handling Bridal Emergencies

One of her most memorable bridal emergencies involved a bridesmaid spilling olive oil on her dress right before the wedding. With persistence and the correct stain wipes, Julie saved the day.

Memorable Moments in the Industry

Julie cherishes the times she gets to travel with teams, creating iconic photos with talented photographers. Those experiences created a sense of camaraderie and many lasting memories.

Proudest Achievement

Her proudest achievement is hiring and mentoring her team, particularly Dee, who has been a vital part of her business. Julie views her role as a mentor as one of the most fulfilling aspects of her career.

A Dress Named in Her Honor

Julie worked with a bride to redesign an Oscar de la Renta dress, transforming it into something the bride loved. The designers loved the new creation so much that they added it to their collection, naming the dress after Julie.

First Feature in Print

Her first magazine feature in Elegant Bride in 2005 was a turning point that made Julie realize that her business could be a sustainable

01 Oct 202484: Bridal Market Prep with Shayna from Over The Moon00:27:03

We are delighted to welcome Shayna, the editorial and social media manager for Over the Moon, as our guest.

Shayna joins us today to dive into the New York Bridal Fashion Week, one of the most exciting times of the year that is just around the corner!

Starting in the Bridal Industry

Shayna began her career in the bridal industry in 2019 through an internship at Over the Moon. While finishing her degree at The New School, she cold-emailed Alex, the brand founder, offering to work for free in exchange for the experience. That initiative led to her full-time role, where she now manages weddings, blogs, Instagram, and overall social media presence for the company.

Wedding Industry Dynamics

Shayna enjoys the wedding industry for its blend of pressure and personal storytelling. She is fascinated by how societal pressure influences couples' decisions and the image they project. She also loves hearing their stories and how they infuse personal details into their weddings.

Bridal Fashion Week and Trends

Bridal Fashion Week is held twice annually and sets the tone for bridal trends. Shayna has seen how social media speeds up the spread of trends, with new collections influencing weddings through 2025. Her team prepares for Bridal Fashion Week meticulously, scheduling content and attending shows that reflect the interests of their followers.

Bridal Market Insights

Shayna advises brides following Fashion Week to understand the timeline of the bridal industry. She explains that the collections shown during Fashion Week are typically for the following year, so brides should track trunk shows and stockists to access new collections. Instagram is also an excellent resource for following bridal accounts and seeing real brides wearing the latest trends.

Wedding Trends to Watch

Shayna feels we have seen too many bows, so she will not mind them going out of style. She loves Watteau trains, and pearl detailing has always been her favorite choice.

Advice for 2025 Brides

Shayna advises brides planning for 2025 to stay true to their style. She recommends testing new trends in everyday life to see if they work, ensuring that their wedding outfits highlight their true selves rather than trying to meet societal expectations.

22 Jan 202152: Five Tips to Choosing a Dress You Love00:10:17

We all know it’s a crazy time to be planning that most extraordinary event in your life. You have to be prepared for every possible twist and turn in your wedding journey, and one thing that is a huge part of your special day is your wedding dress. Join me for this solo episode as we discuss how to tackle finding a dress you love in an uncertain world.

Show Highlights:

Five tips to navigate the important step of choosing a dress you love:

  • Keep it simple--Versatility is important, and accessories can help achieve the look you want. Simple and chic work in every setting and a simple dress is easier for a designer to produce.
  • Choose a dress that looks good on you today--Don’t add stress to your life by having to work like crazy to “make it fit.”
  • Start shopping early--Dresses take longer to make right now, especially with imported components. More options are available to you if you plan ahead.
  • Consider a rehearsal dinner look that could do double duty--Many brides are choosing that rehearsal dinner outfit that can also be worn in an intimate wedding.
  • It’s hard to wear your wedding dress twice--If you plan a small wedding now and a bigger one post-pandemic, it may be more cost-effective to purchase a dress off the rack for the intimate ceremony.

25 Apr 202469: Mix & Match Bridesmaids Dresses00:21:02

Today, we are diving into ways to create a mix-and-match bridesmaid's dress concept harmoniously, without the stress.

If you have been contemplating this approach for your wedding, we have you covered!

Join us for expert guidance and helpful tips and tricks to make the whole process as smooth as possible.

Understanding the Mix-and-Match Trend

The mix-and-match bridesmaid dress concept involves giving bridesmaids the freedom to choose their dresses within a specified color or concept, focusing on ready-to-wear dresses. This concept has gained popularity recently because brides want their friends to feel comfortable and stylish, moving away from the traditional uniform look to create a visually appealing and fashion-forward ensemble.

Challenges and Fun of Mix-and-Match

While the trend can be enjoyable when executed correctly, it also presents challenges as it takes time and requires patience and dedication. Many brides embrace this concept due to social media exposure and the possibility of bridesmaids reusing their dresses, especially if they align with their personal style preferences.

Selecting Dresses and Maintaining Cohesion

Choosing dresses for bridesmaids involves balancing various factors, like colors, fabrics, styles, and lengths. Keeping the differences between the dresses to a minimum of three factors helps maintain cohesion and ensures that the overall look remains unified. Additional considerations include aligning all the skirt shapes and sizes to avoid a disjointed appearance.

Color Selection and Online vs. In-Person

Selecting colors can be tricky due to variations in shades between online and in-person views. So, for that reason, it is crucial to be there in person to see how all the colors look to avoid mismatching shades. It may be helpful to incorporate a mix of solid and printed dresses, as that could add depth to the overall look while maintaining cohesion.

Accessorizing for a Unified Look

Accessories like jewelry, clutches, and shoes play a significant role in tying the bridesmaid ensemble together and creating a cohesive look. Choosing complementary accessories is always helpful as they can enhance the overall appearance of the dresses. Additionally, opting for accessories that reflect the wedding theme or colors can add a touch of elegance. Ensuring that each bridesmaid has suitable accessories can contribute to a polished and unified appearance, enhancing the overall aesthetic of the bridal party.

Final Tips for Success

Setting clear parameters, choosing stores with good return policies, and keeping detailed records of all the dress choices are essential for a smooth process. Exploring different designers and e-commerce websites can offer more options and better logistics. Despite the challenges, the mix-and-match trend is likely here to stay, offering brides and bridesmaids a stylish and personalized approach to wedding attire.

19 Nov 202487: The Ultimate Winter Bridesmaid Guide00:18:32

Winter is in full swing now, bringing winter weddings and all the seasonal charm.

So today, we are focusing on winter bridesmaid fashion, outerwear, and ways to accessorize and elevate the look.

While a stunning dress sets the stage, the accessories and finishing touches can make it unforgettable. If you are preparing for a winter wedding, join us as we explore how those finishing touches can take your bridesmaid outfits to the next level!

Considerations for Bridesmaid Dresses in Cold Weather

When selecting bridesmaid dresses for winter weddings, the most important factors are the location, vibe, and overall wedding theme. Also, ensure the bridesmaid dresses are warm enough, as winter weddings can be unexpectedly cold.

Fabrics Matter

Choosing the correct fabric is crucial for winter weddings. Lighter fabrics like silk or satin can leave bridesmaids shivering. So opt for heavier materials like crepe or velvet to ensure warmth and comfort while maintaining style so your bridesmaids won’t be distracted by the cold.

Solid Colors and Coordinated Dresses

The trend of bridesmaids choosing their dresses is fading, as it can create mismatched results. Most brides now prefer coordinated color schemes and styles. Solid colors and deeper shades are replacing the bold patterns that used to be popular in recent years. Simple, elegant colors like deep green or peacock blue are timeless and flattering for most body types.

Color Palettes for Winter Weddings

When selecting a color palette for winter bridesmaids, consider the setting and vibe of the wedding. Colors like deep green work well for many winter events, while shades of maroon or burgundy are also popular. The key is to match the color to the formality and location of the wedding, ensuring it fits with the overall aesthetic.

Outerwear Trends

Outerwear is a fun and practical addition to winter weddings. Adding stylish jackets, wraps, or boleros adds visual interest and keeps the bridesmaids warm. Cashmere wraps, faux fur stoles, or lightweight jackets are great options to provide warmth without overwhelming the look. They can also serve as keepsakes, making them a thoughtful gift for bridesmaids.

Selecting the Perfect Winter Bridesmaid Dress

For winter weddings, think beyond brands and focus on color, fit, and material. You can use tools like ShopStyle to filter by price and style. Always consider the return policies when buying online, as colors often look different in person, and remember to focus on practicality to ensure the dresses are comfortable and appropriate for the weather conditions.

Final Advice

Winter weddings offer an opportunity to do something unique with bridesmaid fashion, so don’t be afraid to step outside the box. Whether sticking to traditional options or experimenting with bold styles, always ensure the bridesmaids feel and look fantastic. Prioritize warmth and comfort, and don’t worry too much about the specifics of the brand. What matters most is finding a dress that fits the budget and the wedding’s aesthetic.

14 May 202472: A Mother/Daughter Take on Wedding Fashion00:28:27

We are thrilled to welcome a truly special guest today!

In celebration of Mother's Day, Julie is super excited to have her mom joining her for a fun episode, where they explore a range of topics close to their hearts, from comparing their wedding experiences to sharing valuable advice on mother-daughter relationships.

We extend a huge thank you to Julie's mom for gracing us with her delightful presence today!

Wedding Planning Overview and Ceremony Details

Julie and her mom reflect on the evolution of wedding planning from the 70s to modern times, discussing the shift toward more elaborate arrangements, hiring professionals, and the increasing significance of wedding details. Julie reminisces about her late afternoon wedding ceremony, highlighting its simplicity when compared with the elaborate receptions of today, and she and her mom discuss how much wedding ceremonies and receptions have changed over the decades.

Wedding Dress Journey Challenges

Julie shares the challenges she faced during her wedding dress shopping experience in New York City, mentioning the difficulty she had finding the perfect dress without the convenience of online resources and the overwhelming choices in the bridal boutiques of today.

Groom's Outfit Individuality

Julie's mom found a unique morning suit outfit in a magazine for her husband. She emphasizes the individuality and personal touch his outfit brought to the wedding.

Bouquet and Veil Symbolism

The bouquet and veil are symbolic in wedding traditions. The bridal bouquet symbolizes fertility, new beginnings, and the blossoming of love. Each flower chosen may carry its symbolism, like roses for love, lilies for purity, or lavender for devotion. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the bouquet also serves as a fragrant reminder of the bride's style and the joyful atmosphere of the wedding day. The veil symbolizes modesty, purity, and the unveiling of the bride as she begins a new chapter in her life. It also signifies how the bride transitions from a single woman to a married one as she uncovers her face to reveal her commitment and love for her partner. The bouquet and veil add layers of tradition, beauty, and meaning to the wedding ceremony, making them cherished elements of bridal attire.

Going Away Outfit Tradition

The tradition of a going away outfit dates back to when newlywed couples would leave their wedding reception and head off on their honeymoon immediately afterward. The going away outfit was typically a stylish and comfortable ensemble for the bride, often different from her wedding gown. It symbolized the transition from the formalities of the wedding ceremony to the relaxed and intimate moments of the honeymoon. While this tradition has evolved, many couples may choose to delay their honeymoon or forego a separate outfit. The idea of a going away outfit remains a charming nod to the romantic customs of the past.

The Evolution of the Bridesmaid Dress

Over the years, bridesmaid dresses have evolved significantly in style, color, and design. From traditional floor-length gowns in pastel hues to modern and versatile options like mix-and-match styles or jumpsuits, bridesmaid attire has become more diverse and personalized. There has also been a shift toward sustainable and eco-friendly fabrics, focusing more on comfort and reusability. Today, brides have a wide range of choices, allowing them to create cohesive yet unique looks for their bridal party to fit the wedding theme.

Mother of the Bride Dress

The dress for the mother of the bride should strike a balance between elegance, comfort, and suitability for the wedding theme. It may include color coordination with the bridal party, flattering silhouettes that...

13 Feb 202462: The Appointments: What to Know Before You Go00:30:36

Today, we are excited to dive into crafting your ideal wedding dress shopping plan.

Julie, our founder, is a seasoned pro. With twenty years of experience shopping for wedding dresses, she has a wealth of insights to share.

Get ready for an episode filled with expert advice on creating a shopping plan that is uniquely yours!

Considerations Before Shopping

Four essential aspects to consider when finding the perfect wedding dress are the type of wedding you are having, your personal style, body type, and budget.

Setting a Budget

Although the limited transparency in pricing may make it hard to set a budget, Julie recommends checking a free download on their resources page for detailed guidance on navigating wedding dress pricing.

Scheduling Appointments

Brides should plan their shopping day several weeks in advance. Julie suggests calling salons beforehand to find out about their average dress prices, appointment durations, and restrictions on group sizes and for information on any ongoing trunk shows.

Preparing for Appointments

Brides do not need to bring much to appointments, as most salons provide all the necessary items. However, Julie recommends bringing shoes, undergarments, and snacks. She also suggests wearing something easy to change in and out of to make trying on dresses easier.

Choosing Companions

Brides should only have two supportive and positive companions to accompany them. Julie advises against including anyone who may impose their opinions or agendas on the bride.

What to Expect in the First Dress Appointment

There is a difference between shopping for wedding dresses and regular clothing. Julie advises brides to approach the initial session with an open mind, explore a variety of dress shapes, and consider any unexpected choices that consultants may offer. Brides should reflect on the experience afterward, acknowledging the insights they gained during the first appointment to inform their decision-making in subsequent sessions.

Bridal Salon Consultants

With their extensive knowledge about dresses, bridal consultants are a valuable source of information. Brides should be honest and open and offer constructive feedback when communicating with consultants.

Addressing Personal Challenges with Consultants

Working with bridal consultants can sometimes be tricky. Julie assures brides that requesting a different consultant is a reasonable and acceptable step if the relationship is too challenging.

Practical Tips for Brides

Julie advises brides to document every dress they try on with photos or videos, making notes of their likes and dislikes. (Collage apps can be a helpful decision-making tool for side-by-side comparisons.) After selecting a dress, brides should sleep on their decision before making a final commitment.

Join us next Tuesday for our discussion on the controversial topic of whether or not wearing black to a wedding is acceptable.

13 Aug 202480: Our Verdict on Long Sleeve Wedding Gowns00:13:56

Today, we explore a trend that has recently been causing a lot of excitement in the wedding fashion world.

Long-sleeved wedding gowns are making big waves among brides everywhere lately. From traditional lace to sleek contemporary looks, long-sleeved wedding dresses are a perfect mix of sophisticated elegance and charm, suitable for any season. Stay tuned to discover why long-sleeved wedding gowns are a timeless choice for any bride.

Embracing Long-Sleeved Wedding Gowns

Long-sleeved wedding gowns are a big hit in the wedding fashion world. If you are considering this style, it is worth noting that these gowns offer a classic elegance that is making a comeback lately. Historically, long-sleeved dresses have always been a staple in bridal fashion, with timeless inspirations like Grace Kelly leading the way. Their renewed popularity is influenced by modern celebrities, bringing this sophisticated style back into the spotlight.

Celebrity Influence on Bridal Fashion

Recent celebrity weddings, like Olivia Culpo’s custom Dolce and Gabbana long-sleeved dress, highlight how this style makes waves. The key is to focus on what makes you feel beautiful and comfortable. Remember, it is your wedding day, so prioritize your preferences and block out external noise. Celebrity styles can inspire, but your choice should always reflect your taste.

Choosing Accessories for Long Sleeves

When selecting accessories and veils to complement long-sleeved gowns, consider the type of sleeve you will wear. Heavier, opaque fabrics may require different accessory choices than sheer or embroidered styles. For example, sheer long sleeves, like those seen on Paris Hilton, offer a lighter, more versatile look that can influence how you choose your veil and other accessories.

Balancing Trends with Your Style

Always align trends with your style. Before committing to a long-sleeved gown, try on different styles to see what resonates with you. Consider the weather and venue, and ensure the dress fits comfortably throughout your wedding day. Versatile options, like detachable sleeves or overlays, can allow you to adapt your look for comfort and weather conditions.

Comfort and Versatility

If you are worried about comfort or temperature, consider gowns with versatile elements like removable layers or accessories that can change your look. For instance, a lace overlay or a bolero can add long sleeves you can remove for a different appearance. That allows you to manage your style and comfort effectively throughout your wedding day.

Staying True to Yourself

Prioritize your comfort and personal style when choosing a long-sleeved gown. Consider how your everyday wardrobe preferences might influence your choice. Remember that adding fabric can sometimes create a bulkier look, so ensure the gown enhances your confidence. Remember, if you have any doubts, it is okay to explore other options to find what truly feels right for you.

Practical Advice for Long Sleeves

If you are unsure about long sleeves, consider more versatile options, like sheer fabrics or detachable components. This way, you can adapt to different conditions while maintaining your desired look. Always remember to have a plan for comfort and style, and make sure your final choice makes you feel stunning and confident on your special day.

19 Mar 202465: The Shine Test & How You Make Decisions00:26:19

Welcome to another episode of the Dressed, Styled, and Down the Aisle!

I am Harley, standing in for D while she is out with clients, and today, we are excited to dive into the decision-making process and how that relates to the fashion aspect of your big day, especially your wedding dress!

Join us for Julie’s helpful decision-making insights and tips.

Unlocking Your Wedding Planning Style

As you begin your wedding planning adventure, it is essential to familiarize yourself with your decision-making style, and get comfortable with it, particularly when making big fashion choices like selecting the perfect wedding dress. Knowing your preferences is the key to navigating the vast number of decisions in your exciting wedding-planning journey.

Top of Form

Maximizers vs. Satisficers

Over the years, Julie has noticed two distinct decision-making styles. Some brides are maximizers, while others are satisficers. Maximizers are like treasure hunters, as they like digging deeply into every option until they strike gold. Too much digging, however, can leave them feeling less than thrilled with their choices. On the other hand, the satisficers prefer having fewer options, allowing them to meet their criteria without exhaustive comparisons.

Tips to Find Your Decision-Making Style

When figuring out your decision-making style, it can be helpful to reflect on your past shopping experiences, paying attention to how you shop. You can also dive into various decision-making styles to learn how others make their choices. Understanding that some people like to carefully consider every option, while others prefer making their decisions more quickly will help you better understand your own decision-making tendencies.

The Shine Test

Julie created the Shine Test to help brides make easier wedding dress decisions. The Shine Test is about how a bride feels from the inside out, focusing on comfort and confidence rather than external appearance. This approach involves visualization, feelings, and practical ways for brides to choose a dress, allowing them to shine on their wedding day. It is about envisioning yourself in the dress, feeling confident and empowered, and ultimately, knowing that you can rock your wedding day!

Doubt Means Don't: Embracing Your Inner Guide

When doubt arises, listen to your inner guide. The doubt means don't principle is all about trusting your instincts when making decisions. It suggests avoiding choices that make you doubt yourself and waiting instead for options that better align with your level of comfort and confidence. Understanding your decision-making style is the key to navigating all the choices you will face in your wedding-planning journey. Whether you are a maximizer diving deep or a satisficer finding joy in simplicity, discovering your decision-making magic is worth it.

So, embrace your inner guide, remember that doubt means don't, and trust that you will shine on your big day!

07 May 202471: All About the Mothers!00:29:27

Today, in honor of Mother’s Day, we are diving into wedding fashion for mothers.

To help you overcome any confusion, we will cover everything related to etiquette, clarifying where to begin, explaining how to create a cohesive look, and looking at everything in between.

Join us for expert tips and guidance on choosing the perfect mother-of-the-bride dress while avoiding overshadowing the bride.

Challenges for Mothers When Shopping for Wedding Looks

Mothers often encounter several challenges when shopping for their wedding looks. These include the need to look spectacular yet understated while coordinating with the overall vibe and color scheme and adapting to changes in their bodies postmenopause. Those factors can make it challenging to find a dress that makes them feel fantastic while being appropriate.

The Mother's Dress

Julie and Dee find it rewarding to help mothers feel amazing in their chosen outfits, considering the attention and honor bestowed upon them as the event hostess.

Personal Experience with Finding a Mother's Dress

Dee shares an anecdote about helping her mom find a dress for her sister's wedding. Despite initial miscommunications about color preferences, they ultimately succeeded in finding a dress that made her mom feel beautiful and comfortable.

Etiquette and Rules for Mothers When Shopping

Traditionally, the bride's mother should shop for her dress before the mother of the groom buys her dress. However, that can vary. Mothers should not wear white, ivory, or anything similar to avoid overshadowing the bride.  Communication is crucial to ensure everyone is on the same page regarding expectations and involvement in the dress selection. Some brides may want to see and approve the dress before their mother makes her final choice, while others may be more hands-off.

Tips for Choosing the Perfect Dress

Julie and Dee share valuable tips for choosing the perfect mother-of-the-bride dress. These include not ruling out strapless dresses, considering internal dress support, deciding on a train and bustle, choosing comfortable shoes, and communicating openly about dress changes. These tips will ensure a flawless and comfortable fit.

Addressing Specific Challenges

Julie advises mothers who struggle to find a dress that looks mature without being matronly to highlight their best features and opt for simplicity and sophistication in their dress choice.

A Sneak Peek into Our Next Episode

In the next episode, Julie will have her mom on the podcast to discuss her experience of finding a dress for Julie’s wedding. We will also offer further insights into selecting a dress for the mother of the bride.

28 May 202474: Julie's Favorite Tips from Her Bestselling Book00:22:37

We are less than one week away from the official launch of Julie’s bestselling book, Dressed, Styled, and Down the Aisle, and today, she will share her favorite tips from the book.

Completing the book has been a long yet fulfilling journey, and Julie cannot wait to share all the knowledge she has gathered over the years.  Join us for Julie’s top tips!

Julie’s Top Tip

Julie believes that feeling confident in what you are wearing and how you look will shine through in all your pictures and help you have a great time without being bogged down by insecurity.

Understanding Your Shopping Style

You need to know what type of shopper you are because understanding your shopping preferences will simplify the planning for your wedding dress shopping experience.

Scheduling Appointments

Julie recommends scheduling at least three wedding dress appointments on the first day. The first appointment is for getting your feet wet and trying different shapes. By the third appointment, you start understanding what you like. She also recommends taking a lunch break to stay energized and refreshed.

Decision-Making Style

Understanding your decision-making style is crucial. All women make their decisions differently, and some may need more time to process all the information. Communicating your style to your consultant will ensure a smoother experience. Julie advises against making your final decision on the same day and suggests sleeping on it instead.

Preparing for Dress Fittings

Be prepared to try on dresses that do not fit perfectly. Most stores carry sample sizes that may not match your size, so you may need to use your imagination to visualize the final look. Being able to visualize changes is essential for avoiding frustration in those situations.

Buying for Your Current Body

Julie advises brides to buy a dress to fit the body they have today. While losing weight or changing your body is a personal choice, buying a dress expecting those changes can add unnecessary stress. Even though most dresses can get altered, it is essential to love the dress as it is when you first see it.

Utilizing Resources

Our Dream Wedding Dress Quiz is there to help brides discover the perfect silhouette and style tailored to their preferences. Unlike traditional quizzes that make assumptions based on body type alone, our quiz focuses on what you love to accentuate to ensure you feel confident and beautiful on your special day.

Knowing Your Timeline

Julie highlights the importance of following a structured but flexible timeline that includes scheduling fittings and buying dresses for bridesmaids and moms to ensure everything aligns and nothing gets overlooked.

19 Jan 202459: New Year, New Season, New Us00:13:56

Hello everyone, and a warm welcome to the first episode of our brand-new season!

We are your hosts, Julie Sabatino and Di Mercado, and we can’t wait to tell you about all the fun things we have in store for you this season. By the end of this episode, you will have learned what it means to be your own bridal muse and understand why that is so important.

Meet Di, Our Senior Stylist

Di is our Senior Stylist at Stylish Bride and will be our co-host for this podcast season. Dee brings a unique perspective to the team. She was born and raised in a small city in Puerto Rico and now lives in New York City with her husband, Jeff. Proud of her college days as a volleyball player, Di enjoys an active lifestyle, engaging in activities like Zumba and swimming. She loves returning to Puerto Rico to visit her family as often as possible.

Di's Stylish Journey

Di's career path initially evolved from styling custom suits for men to freelance styling and then shifted to red-carpet styling. After COVID turned the world upside down, she found a new home at Stylish Bride, where she has been an invaluable part of the team for the past two and a half years. Fortunately, she found her experience with red carpet styling similar to that of bridal styling, making her transition easy and seamless.

What to Expect This Season

We have exciting plans for this podcast season. We will dive deeply into bridal styling, sharing our insights and exploring the concept of being your own muse.

Be Your Own Muse

Becoming your own muse is all about finding your inner inspiration and steering away from external pressures and social media. We are committed to empowering brides and providing the tools they need for a confident and profoundly personal bridal journey.

Our New Ventures

We will be launching some fantastic initiatives in 2024. Our website now hosts a free wedding fashion resource library, offering quizzes, downloads, and blogs to guide brides through the emotional and challenging wedding planning journey. Julie is also delighted to announce the upcoming launch of her book, Dressed, Styled, and Down the Aisle, which Dee describes as a beautiful and inspiring journey through the world of bridal fashion.

Why Julie Wrote the Book

Julie wanted to share all the bridal knowledge she has gained over many years. Her wedding struggles in 2001 inspired her to start the Stylish Bride podcast and write Dressed, Styled, and Down the Aisle as comprehensive guides for brides. She hopes her book will become a valuable resource to spare other brides the crises of confidence she faced as a young bride.

We are super excited about our upcoming season and can't wait to share more insights!

Tune in next Tuesday to find out what to do after becoming engaged.

27 Feb 202464: Your Imagination Threshold00:17:22

Today, we discuss something very few brides ever consider.

The art of imagining how something will look is essential when planning a wedding, yet it often gets overlooked in the bridal world.

Join us as we dive into this intriguing facet of bridal preparation, where your imagination is the guiding force for unleashing creativity.

Unlocking the Power of Imagination

Imagination is essential for every bride-to-be, yet few brides ever consider how challenging it is to envision how a sample dress will look on them when it is not in their size and not in perfect condition. That is what we are exploring today.

Understanding Your Imagination Capacity

After countless wedding dress appointments, it became evident to Julie that women have a broad spectrum of abilities for envisioning things. Some women can effortlessly imagine alterations, while others struggle. Knowing where you stand on that spectrum and understanding it will assist you in making a well-informed decision when selecting your dress. Reflecting on your past experiences with home decor while shopping or making online clothing purchases can also indicate how well you can use your imagination.

Applying Your Imagination Knowledge

For those less adept at envisioning changes, we have learned to limit modifications and ensure that everything gets documented. Our personal experiences have also taught us to advise brides-to-be to discuss alterations during fittings whenever possible to avoid surprises and ensure that their expectations are realistic.

Addressing Challenges for Limited Imagination

If visualizing alterations is not your strong suit, there is no need to worry. Opt for changes that can get done during fittings and take advantage of technology, like photo editing apps, to simulate alterations. Obtaining swatches for color comparisons can also help you with your decision-making.

Additional Tips and Insights

Remember that doubt means don't, when choosing your wedding dress. Address any uncertainties and prioritize finding a dress that inspires your confidence. Brides-to-be facing fitting challenges could consider exploring products like our Sample Size Solution, designed to assist curvy brides in visualizing their dress fit during appointments.

Embracing Your Imagination

Embracing the power of your imagination can transform your wedding dress journey from daunting to delightful. With the right approach and support, we know you will find the dress of your dreams and enjoy every step of the process.

13 Feb 202153: Understanding the Wedding Landscape for a Curvy Woman: Part 100:10:32

As a curvy woman myself, I know and understand the unique challenges when shopping for a wedding dress. This topic is so near and dear to my heart that today’s show is the first in a multi-part series covering the issues that curvy brides face. Join me as we lay the foundation in understanding the wedding landscape for a curvy woman.

Show Highlights:

  • Why helping curvy brides has been some of my most satisfying work
  • Our focus today is on designer wedding dresses for curvy women--not those found at lower price points
  • What curvy women need to know:
  • Bridal sizing runs up to two sizes small (be prepared to be shocked!)
  • Most boutiques carry only one of each dress sample, usually in size 8 (which is really a size 4!)
  • Trunk show dresses are even smaller than normal because they were made for a model to wear (curvy women should avoid trunk shows altogether!)
  • You’ll be asked to “envision” what the dress in your size will look like on you (this is difficult to do when you may not be able to zip up the dress!)

20 Feb 202463: Can You Wear Black to a Wedding?00:12:32

Today, we are diving into the age-old debate of whether or not wearing black to weddings is acceptable.

By the end of this episode, you will have a clear verdict on this contentious matter. You will also have learned valuable tips on wearing black stylishly to any event you may attend.

Get ready to step out in style with our expert tips!

The Controversy Surrounding Black Attire

The debate around the suitability of wearing black to weddings stems from its historical associations, particularly with funerals. Despite this, black was once a symbol of wealth and elegance due to the difficulty and expense of dyeing fabric black. When Coco Chanel created the little black dress in 1926, and Vogue magazine loved it, black clothes became known as fashionable and classy.

Modern Perceptions of Black

Today, wearing black is seen as modern and dramatic. People consider black clothing stylish and adaptable because it shows sophistication and strength while having a rebellious edge. Everyone can look good in black, and it is easy to incorporate different accessories to change the look.

Wearing Black is Practical and Feels Good

Nowadays, many of us feel comfortable wearing black. Black is generally a safe choice for many situations, and you can dress it up or down to fit in with any occasion you attend.

Understanding What to Wear to Weddings

Even though there are no strict rules about wearing black to weddings, different places and cultures might see it differently. The important thing is to wear something that matches the formality of the wedding and where it is taking place. You should also not wear anything too revealing or uncomfortable, especially if it will be a hot day.

Tips for Moms at Weddings

The mother of the bride or groom should focus on feeling comfortable and confident in what they wear. Although black may be suitable for most weddings, it is necessary to wear something that matches the occasion.

Feeling Good

Feeling good about what you wear is the most important thing. Whether you wear black or another color, you must feel confident and comfortable because that matters most.

In Conclusion

When it comes to wearing black to weddings, it is clear that while some old ideas remain, people have different views nowadays. It remains most important to feel comfortable and appropriate in what you wear to ensure you enjoy the event without worrying too much about what others might think.

05 Nov 202486: What to Wear to a Winter Wedding00:20:39

Have you been invited to a wedding this winter?

Putting a look together for a winter wedding can be challenging- especially finding something to wear that falls outside of the usual winter comfort zone or the go-to classic black.

Join us for inspiration on what to wear so you can feel confident, look amazing, and stay comfortable as a winter wedding guest!

Balancing Warmth and Style

When planning a winter wedding outfit, consider both comfort and elegance. The key is balancing warmth with style and understanding the venue, as different venues require different styles.

Dress Code Awareness

Don’t assume all winter weddings call for the same look. Check the dress code to ensure you dress appropriately for the venue, as each wedding has its vibe, and dress codes can vary.

Outerwear Essentials

Chic coats are essential for cold-weather weddings. A formal evening coat is ideal as it is warm and looks elegant. Down coats, while warm, may not fit the formality required, so opt for sophisticated materials on the outside and warmth on the inside.

Seasonal Colors and Textures

Winter offers a chance to explore rich colors and luxurious textures. Jewel tones like burgundy, aubergine, and olive green bring depth and sophistication to winter attire, while velvet and cashmere add warmth. If you gravitate toward black, experiment with textured or metallic elements for added visual interest and elegance.

Accessories for Elevating Style

Accessorizing adds a personalized touch to any outfit. Consider gloves, a standout bag, or statement jewelry to elevate a classic look. Evening gloves, especially in luxurious materials like kidskin, lend elegance and warmth to an ensemble, and adding sparkle through jewelry or a pop of color in shoes can enhance even a simple black outfit.

Practical Tips for Staying Warm

Layering is the key to staying warm at winter weddings. Layering a cashmere sweater or scarf over your dress can provide warmth on the way to the event, while easy-to-remove layers keep you comfortable once indoors. You can also combine practicality with chic by bringing warm boots for outdoor settings and heels for the reception.

Experimenting with Light Colors

Wearing lighter colors rather than traditional dark shades in winter can make a refreshing statement. Try light lavender or blue for a striking look. That unexpected choice can stand out beautifully while providing the warmth and coverage required for the season.

Trends

Current winter fashion trends can help you choose something stylish to wear. Velvet, feathers, sequins, and monochromatic looks are all inthis winter, bringing elegance and flair. Boho chic is best left out for weddings, while timeless choices like leopard print and chocolate brown can look stylish and refined.

18 Dec 202051: What to Know About Wedding Design in the time of Corona00:39:21

24 Sep 202483: How to Choose the Perfect Wedding Dress for Your Second Marriage00:21:17

Even though getting married again is more common than you might think, most wedding advice tends to focus on first-time brides.

So, today, we explore ways to find the ideal dress for your next walk down the aisle, regardless of how many times you may have done it before.

Join us for tips and guidance for finding the perfect dress for your next big day.

Dressing for Remarriage

With nearly half of all marriages ending in divorce, the chance of walking down the aisle again is high. However, there is little guidance for brides not getting married for the first time.

Wearing White for a Second Wedding

Whether or not to wear white again is a personal choice for the bride. Even though white is more traditional for first marriages, there are no hard and fast rules. The freedom of choice increases with a second wedding but could lead to decision fatigue. So, focus on whatever makes you feel best, whether traditional white or something bold and unique.

Wedding Dress vs. Ready-to-Wear

Many second-time brides opt for ready-to-wear outfits instead of traditional wedding dresses. Age and personal style play a role, with younger brides sometimes leaning more towards classic bridal gowns, while older brides might prefer something that feels more authentic to them, like a colorful, stylish, ready-to-wear dress. The key is finding something that resonates with your particular style and the atmosphere of your celebration.

Exploring Non-Traditional Colors

Wearing colors other than white is a growing trend, especially for second marriages. Historically, brides wore their best dress, often in colors like black, which was once considered luxurious. Today, however, brides can choose colors or bold patterns that reflect their personality and style while maintaining a sense of bridal elegance.

To Veil or Not to Veil?

Wearing a veil for a second wedding is entirely optional. While some brides may still enjoy the tradition of a veil, others prefer alternative accessories like a sheer cape or a chic fascinator. It is all about what feels authentic and complements your look.

Alternatives to Veils

For those who don’t want a traditional veil, capes, fascinators, or birdcage veils can add a touch of drama and elegance. Those alternatives allow brides the flair and flexibility to have a bridal moment without following conventional trends.

Favorite Second-Wedding Looks

Second weddings often allow for more creativity and personal expression. Brides have rocked everything from a stunning, colorful Oscar de la Renta gown at a Brooklyn disco-themed wedding to elegant, understated dresses that could feature on the red carpet. The focus has shifted from tradition to whatever feels comfortable for the bride and suits the mood of the occasion.

16 Jul 202478: Answering Your Questions00:20:44

Today, we have a special episode dedicated to all our listeners who sent questions about the best-selling book Dressed, Styled, and Down the Aisle: Becoming a Stylish Bride.

In this episode, we dive into many things, from expert advice on crafting your perfect wedding fashion story to the fascinating journey of how Julie wrote her book. We even get into what the future holds for Julie and her team.

Stay tuned. This episode is one you will not want to miss!

Extracting 20 Years of Experience

For Julie, writing the book involved keeping notes, scrapbooking, and leveraging her vast experience. Her idea for the book began years ago, early in her career, when a publisher approached her. Over time, she accumulated knowledge and insights that built upon each other, which she meticulously documented and applied to her work.

Rewarding Moments and Breakthroughs

Julie found the writing process personally rewarding, especially with the help of a colleague who refined her ideas. Overcoming her doubts and struggles with writing, she loved seeing the book completed and successful. Every chapter felt like a breakthrough for her entire team.

Completing the Book

Her project manager advised Julie that the book would never feel fully completed. That guidance helped her finally submit the manuscript despite her perfectionistic tendencies. She felt relieved and satisfied after completing and releasing the book.

Setting the Book Apart

The book provides a comprehensive, in-depth guide from a unique perspective beyond most articles and posts.

The Psychological Aspects of Choosing a Wedding Dress

Her extensive experience in the wedding fashion industry has given Julie a unique perspective on the psychological aspects of choosing a wedding dress. In her years of working closely with brides, she observed the emotional and mental processes that women go through when making wedding decisions, as selecting a wedding dress is not just about the dress itself but also how it makes the bride feel, reflecting her personality and dreams. Her book covers the impact of those psychological nuances, offering insights regarding shopping habits, decision-making styles, and body image perceptions.

The Perfect Gift for Brides

The book is often gifted to newly engaged brides as it is an excellent resource for wedding planning. The book could get passed down, making it an enduring gift.

Future Projects

Julie has plans to create a course for brides, expanding on the content with more personalized guidance. This course will help brides requiring more interaction and detailed advice without opting for virtual styling services.

Impact on Brides and the Wedding Industry

Julie hopes her book will promote inclusivity in the wedding industry, addressing issues like sizing and representation. She aspires for the industry to consider the psychological impact of their practices on brides, advocating for a more supportive and diverse approach.

30 Apr 202470: Accessorizing Your Bridesmaids00:15:43

Today, for the last episode of our bridesmaid series, we are exploring ways to accessorize your bridesmaids and extend the same option to the rest of the bridal party.

Join us for our insightful and imaginative ideas and expert tips for accessorizing your wedding.

Starting Point: Thinking About Accessories

When starting to consider accessorizing, it is essential to specify what you want your bridesmaids to wear. That helps maintain uniformity and avoid a mismatched look. When you choose particular jewelry types or colors, having guidelines will ensure a cohesive appearance, especially for photos and the ceremony.

Creative Ideas Beyond Jewelry

Accessories also extend beyond jewelry. So consider personalized gifts that can be both sentimental and coordinated. From gloves to belts with unique details, there are various ways to add personal touches to the bridesmaids' attire while keeping the overall look cohesive.

Getting Creative with Accessories

Beyond traditional accessories, there are many creative avenues to explore. It may be a good idea to consider incorporating unique pieces like headbands, hair accessories, or even gloves for an adventurous touch. These elements can elevate the bridesmaids' look and add a distinct flair to the wedding ensemble.

Shoe Choices and Personalization

Shoes are another area where creativity can shine. While opting for comfortable shoes is essential, adding personalized touches like shoe clips or bows can enhance the look without compromising comfort. It is a subtle yet effective way to personalize the attire of each bridesmaid.

Handbags as Functional Accessories

Handbags may seem minor, but they can add a finishing touch to the bridesmaids' outfits. They not only serve a functional purpose but also contribute to the overall fashion narrative of the wedding. Personalized or themed handbags can be memorable gifts that bridesmaids can use beyond the wedding day.

Cold Weather Considerations

For weddings in colder months, consider accessories like pashminas, stoles, or wraps to keep bridesmaids warm and comfortable. Planning for potential weather changes will ensure everyone remains comfortable and looks their best throughout the day.

Attention to Details: Nails, Hair, and Makeup

Details like nail polish colors, hairstyles, and makeup are essential considerations. Providing guidelines helps bridesmaids coordinate their looks effectively, ensuring harmony with the overall theme and the bride's vision.

Preparing for Questions and Guidance

Anticipate questions from bridesmaids and be prepared to guide them. Establishing clear guidelines and expectations helps create a seamless and enjoyable experience for everyone involved. Remember, bridesmaids want to make the bride happy. So, they are usually receptive to guidelines.

Closing Thoughts and Openness to Questions

After considering various aspects of wedding accessorizing, ensure that the entire look of the bridal party is cohesive and reflects the overall theme of the wedding. Stay open to questions and feedback, and remember that communication is the key to a harmonious wedding party ensemble.

10 Sep 202482: What to Wear to a Fall Wedding00:20:32

Is someone you know getting married this fall?

With September weddings starting to happen almost as regularly as those in June, this is the perfect time for us to explore ways for you to turn heads as a wedding guest this season.

Join us for some stylish tips!

September Weddings

With September quickly becoming the new June for weddings, it is the perfect time to dress to impress as a guest this fall.

Fall Fashion Trends

This fall is about embracing rich, moody styles, like dark florals that bring a touch of elegance, making a statement with bold reds, and using classic black and white combinations that never go out of style. Velvet is perfect for adding a luxury feel to your outfit, and animal prints that are more exciting than ever are back to bring a fun edge to your look.

Quiet Luxury

The quiet luxury trend of this fall focuses on timeless, high-quality pieces that speak for themselves without the need for flashy logos. Quiet luxury is more about how well something fits and feels than the brand name, making it an understated way to express yourself fashionably.

Fall Fashion Love

Many people prefer fall and winter fashion more than summer outfits, and this fall, you get to bring out your more polished and sophisticated side. So, consider boots, dark colors, and a more structured look.

Fall Wedding Guest Rules

Dressing for fall weddings is all about putting in the effort to bring your A-game. Show respect for the couple by skipping the white and not wearing anything too revealing. Instead, create a classy look that fits the season, venue, and dress code.

Layering and Fabric Picks

Fall weather can be unpredictable, so layering is the answer. Rich fabrics and colors are perfect for the season, and you can complete your look with the right accessories to nail the fall vibe. Whether attending a wedding or updating your fall wardrobe, embrace this fall season confidently. Always remember that a well-chosen outfit can make any occasion feel special.

17 Apr 202468: Choosing Your Bridesmaids Dress Concept00:21:13

Today, we are diving into concept options for bridesmaid dresses.

Our mission is to make those dress decisions less daunting. So, whether you are the bride-to-be or part of the bridal party, join us as we explore various dress concepts to find your perfect fit.

Considering Bridesmaids Dresses

When selecting bridesmaid dresses, there are three main concepts to consider:

  • Traditional bridesmaid dresses
  • Ready-to-wear dresses
  • Custom bridesmaid dresses

Each option offers different levels of flexibility and customization.

Cost Considerations and Payment

One of the primary considerations is the cost of the dresses and who will be responsible for paying for them. Traditionally, bridesmaids purchase their dresses, but some brides opt to cover the cost as a gesture of kindness. Setting a budget and discussing payment arrangements with bridesmaids is essential to avoid financial strain.

Type of Dress

The type of dress you choose will play a significant role in the overall look and feel of the bridal party. Traditional bridesmaid dresses offer convenience but may lack fashion-forward designs and quality, whereas ready-to-wear dresses provide more options for style and fit.

Traditional vs. Ready-to-Wear Bridesmaid Dresses

When weighing the options between traditional bridesmaid dresses and ready-to-wear ones, it is essential to consider the advantages and drawbacks. The traditional bridesmaid dresses offer convenience and a uniform look, making coordination effortless. Finding the right fit for each bridesmaid is relatively straightforward. However, the quality of traditional dresses can vary, and extensive alterations may be necessary, adding to the overall cost. In contrast, ready-to-wear dresses provide more fashion-forward options and flexibility in style and fit. Bridesmaids may find ready-to-wear dresses more wearable beyond the wedding day, offering better value for money. There is also no wait time for production, and fewer alterations are typically required. Overall, the decision between traditional and ready-to-wear bridesmaid dresses depends on the desired aesthetics, budget, and ease of coordination.

Uniformity vs. Mix and Match

Deciding whether all bridesmaids should wear the same dress, choose different styles from the same fabric, or opt for entirely different dresses is a significant decision. While mix-and-match styles were popular, there is a trend toward uniformity for a cleaner and more streamlined aesthetic in bridal party photos.

Guidance for Bridesmaids

Brides should guide their bridesmaids to simplify the dress selection process. Setting parameters such as color, length, and style preferences can help bridesmaids choose dresses that align with the overall vision for the wedding.

Guidance and Support

Allowing bridesmaids too much freedom in dress selection can create additional stress as they will likely try to meet the bride's expectations. Providing guidance and support can help alleviate this burden and ensure that bridesmaids feel comfortable and confident in their attire.

Upcoming Episodes and Support

We will dive deeper into mixing and matching bridesmaid dresses and accessorizing them in our upcoming episodes. So, whether you are aiming for a cohesive look or embracing a more traditional approach, we have you covered. We will continue providing guidance, options, and tips to help you achieve the perfect balance for your bridesmaid attire. 26 Mar 202466: How to Handle Wedding Dress Regret00:21:19

Today, we are exploring the sensitive topic of wedding dress regret.

Harley is filling in for D again while she is out, helping our clients make their dreams come true. Join us for some first-hand advice on how to navigate this situation if it ever happens to you.

Reasons for Wedding Dress Regret

A common cause for wedding dress regret is when brides rush into deciding without taking enough time to consider all their options or preferences.

Another reason for wedding dress regret is when brides do not have a clear vision of what they want and choose a dress that does not align fully with their style or personality.

Wedding dress regret can also stem from brides not taking the time to consider all relevant factors before finally committing to a dress.

Dealing with Wedding Dress Regret:

If a bride experiences a wedding dress regret, there are various ways to address the situation.

The first option is for the bride to find out if it is possible for the existing dress to be altered to suit her preferences.

Another approach is for the bride to forfeit the deposit and look for another dress that aligns better with their style. Or, they can pay the balance, take the dress home, and try to sell it, although this does come with challenges.

Brides can also consider more creative solutions, like adding accessories or altering specific elements of the dress, to alleviate their wedding dress regrets.

A Major Triumph After Wedding Dress Regret

Julie’s collaboration with her seamstress to make significant alterations to a regretful bride’s dress is one remarkable example of turning a setback into a triumph. Their collaboration resulted in a stunning transformation of the dress that not only resolved the bride’s dress regret but also earned Julie recognition from Oscar De La Renta's designers, who named the redesigned dress The Julie Dress.

Addressing Issues with Salons or Designers

When dealing with salon or designer errors, it is essential to have all alterations and changes documented in writing. Clear communication about feasible alterations is always necessary to avoid disappointment later on.

Consulting with a seamstress specializing in bridal wear can also provide clarity for brides and ensure that their expectations regarding changes or alterations are realistic.

Coping Strategies for Wedding Day

Weddings are about love, unity, and creating lasting memories. Remembering that can help brides shift the focus away from their dress-related concerns toward enjoying their special day to the fullest. So, if a bride still feels unsure about her dress on the wedding day, focusing on the joy of the occasion and the love she shares with her partner can help her maintain a positive mindset.

Remember that you can overcome your wedding dress regrets with patience and creativity and by focusing on the love and joy of the special occasion.

23 May 202473: Tips for June Brides00:16:06

June is just around the corner. So, this week, we are sharing our top tips and tricks to ensure our June brides have everything covered.

Join us for our tried and true hints and strategies to ensure you stay ahead of the game as you prepare for your special day. We will also provide practical strategies for staying comfortable during weddings in the summer months.

Protecting Against the Heat

It is essential to prioritize sunscreen as part of your wedding preparations if your wedding is in a sunny location or a warmer climate. Harley recommends using a high-SPF sunscreen and reapplying it throughout the day.

Staying Cool and Comfortable

Julie and Harley suggest using rechargeable mini fans and parasols to create shade and provide relief from the heat. You can even incorporate those items into the wedding decor to enhance the overall aesthetic while ensuring your guests stay comfortable.

Lightweight Fabrics

Harley advises brides to choose lightweight and breathable fabrics for their wedding attire, allowing for better airflow and comfort throughout the day.

Managing Sweatiness

Bridegrooms should have backup shirts and use sweat-absorbing powder to stay dry and comfortable. Julie highlights the importance of choosing moisture-wicking fabrics for groomsmen to reduce the likelihood of visible sweat stains.

Dealing with Foot Swelling

Wear comfortable shoes with cushioned insoles to minimize foot fatigue and swelling. Julie recommends taking regular breaks to elevate your feet and reduce swelling. Compression socks or foot rollers will also alleviate discomfort and improve circulation, especially for those prone to foot swelling.

Controlling Veils in Windy Conditions

Julie and Harley recommend using veil weights or discreetly securing veils with hidden pins to prevent them from flying off in the wind. You can also opt for a shorter veil or secure your veil to your hair for added stability in windy conditions. Practice your veil management techniques during dress fittings to ensure a seamless experience on the wedding day. Harley advises brides to

Guest Comfort in Hot Weather

Julie and Harley suggest providing guests with handheld fans, refreshing beverages, and shaded seating areas to enhance their overall experience in hot outdoor ceremonies. Couples should consider the timing of outdoor ceremonies to avoid the peak heat hours and provide relief from intense sunlight. You can even include cooling elements like personalized water bottles or mini fans as wedding favors for guests attending warm-weather weddings.
