06 Nov 2024 | Feel Your Feelings - How Psychotherapy Can Help You Overcome Trauma | 00:49:57
This week on the show Ang is joined by Nadine Pittam, accredited psychotherapist and host of the “This Won’t Fix You”. Nadine specialises in working with clients who experience intense feelings of love and are prone to obsessions, or more commonly referred to as ‘love addicts’. The majority of Nadine’s work centres around helping people come to terms with the loss of a loved one, the very definition of divorce. In this interview with Ang, Nadine addresses what physiotherapy actually is, its benefits and shares some fascinating insights on how we feel about our feelings.
KEY TAKEAWAYS ● A lot of people have predetermined ideas of what psychotherapy entails, mainly based on its portrait in the movies. However, Nadine describes what therapy really entails and the benefits that come from it. ● Trauma can present itself in multiple ways and, sometimes, they are not always obvious. Nadine and Ang discuss some of the ways trauma can manifest and why it is important to address it before it takes hold. ● After experiencing a divorce it is very common to suddenly feel incomplete, to feel that our ‘other half’ has disappeared. Nadine explains the importance of acknowledging these feelings and the steps you can take to process these thoughts. ● Those people that do enter into therapy use it as a tool to get past the impending crisis they are facing. However, as Nadine explains, those that enter into therapy for the long haul have an opportunity to transform their lives in ways they never thought possible.
BEST MOMENTS “Whoever you are or whatever you’ve done, your behaviour makes sense.” “Therapy isn’t talking about your feelings, it’s talking about how you feel about your feelings.” “If you keep something in the dark for long enough, it will develop.”

07 May 2024 | Ep 2 - A Friend in Need: Surrounding Yourself with the Right People | 00:20:54
This week on the show Ang is recounting the early days of her divorce and the importance of both having a support network around you and being supportive for others. Whether it’s a text message in the middle of the night, or a neighbour dropping by with a bottle of wine, friends are a crucial support system to help you get through the heartbreak. However, as Ang discovered, not all your friends will be there for you, and some of them will even hold your divorce against you. And if this wasn’t enough to deal with, you now have to be the main support network for your children, whilst trying to hide the true pain you are feeling from them. KEY TAKEAWAYS
BEST MOMENTS “When going through a divorce you have to adopt a one thing at a time approach otherwise it becomes too overwhelming.” “Make sure that your feelings of strength and love supersedes your vulnerability.” “You lose money when going through a divorce, but emotions and feelings are so much harder to repair than your bank balance.” VALUABLE RESOURCES https://www.instagram.com/doireallyhatemen/ https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61558725612414 www.linkedin.com/in/angallanburns e-mail ang@doireallyhatemen.com ABOUT THE PODCAST Do I Really Hate Men? This week Ang is joined by Adela Manzoor, a public speaker, podcaster and family lawyer. The emotional aspect of divorce is extremely difficult for all involved, but the legal aspect can be even harder. Suddenly, you find yourself in real conflict with a person that you have spent a lifetime loving and caring for. But there is hope. As Adela explains in this interview, not all lawyers are there to bleed you dry and move onto the next client. A good lawyer will become your friend, your confidant, and in some cases, your counsellor. But how do you pick the right lawyer and what should you prepare yourself for? KEY TAKEAWAYS
