10 May 2022#98 - How Growing And Cultivating Your Email List Generate New Leads00:17:08

Jennie Lyon takes the mystery out of cultivating your email lists and explains how you can generate new leads by curating your subscribers’ experience with every email blast you send out!

In today’s episode, I explore cultivating your email list and why it’s such an important tool for growing your audience and business!

What you will learn:

  1. Email lists are collections of email addresses from people who have (hopefully!) agreed to receive email content from you.
  2. Email lists are still the best way to interact with interested clients.
  3. Letting potential subscribers make an informed decision will prevent high turnover and encourage list growth over time.
  4. Offering a free starter pack of insight into your skillset is a great way to encourage lead generation and convert subscribers into clients.
  5. Subscribing should be as accessible and quick as possible and should be available at every point of public interaction you have!
  6. Use contests and giveaways to reward current subscribers, not potential ones.
  7. Check-in with your email list regularly, offer opportunities for feedback, and the opportunity to opt-out guilt-free.

14 Feb 2022#86 - 6 Key Email Sequences to Make Your Launch a Huge Success00:16:27

You've done all the hard work to generate buzz, built your email list, and crafted the perfect offer. So now what?

One of the most critical aspects of planning your launch is your email sequences. The internet and every launch expert have their own strategy tips on how to convert your offer at the highest numbers possible. But, here’s the kicker… copying someone else's offer has no value because your audience, you, and your offer are different. While everything you have read or run across all has its place, there are six key email sequences that are a must-have no matter what strategy you develop.

What you will learn:

  1. Pre-launch Sequence: The pre-launch email sequence serves one purpose, to warm up your list before your launch.
  2. Launch Runway Sequence: As the saying goes, "build it, and they will come." Apply the same concept here.
  3. Open-Cart Sequence: During an open cart email, you should be sure to explain why the product works for them, how it solves a specific problem, and why they need it now.
  4. Abandoned Cart Sequence: Your checkout system may not allow you to track abandoned carts, but if it does, sending a three-email sequence could boost your ROI by 3-5%.
  5. Cart Close Sequence: Cart closing is the most powerful part of your launch. Adding in the urgency and scarcity on the last day the cart is open (and offer is available) always brings in that final push to reach your revenue goal.
  6. Post Launch Sequence: No matter what, don't stop the communication. Customers and non-customers are still part of your overall ecosystem and should be nurtured 100% of the time.

Do you follow any influencers on social media?

Wouldn’t it be fantastic if one of them decided to share one of your posts? It’s 100% possible, but only if you are posting content that people might want to see. If your social media isn’t firing on all cylinders, it will be hard (if not impossible) to get an influencer to notice you. That’s where doing a social media audit comes in!

In this week’s episode, I’m going to break down some of the ways a social media audit can help you rebuild your social media from the ground up. By taking a close look at your analytics, key posts, and your ideal client avatar, we can give your social media a big boost, maybe even attracting some influencers to take a second look at your content!

26 Oct 2020#20 - Is It Time For a Website Redesign?00:17:39

There are so many aspects to running a small business—believe me, I know! Regularly updating your website may not sound like something you must do, but ensuring your website is user-friendly, mobile-optimized, and presents your business in an effective and eye-catching way all contribute to your success. And since having an online presence is more important than ever, this week, I'll be talking about why these details matter and how you can examine your site's effectiveness.

I'll discuss the following key components that go into an excellent website design:

  • Do-It-Yourself Tools: How useful are they?
  • Self-Tour: Visiting your website as a customer would and examining the user experience.
  • Homepage Audit: First impressions matter and your homepage is no exception.
  • Branding Matters, Too: It's essential to have an attractive and engaging company logo, as it is a visual representation of your business. What message does your current logo send to potential customers?
  • Navigation: It's easy for website navigation (or menus) to get cluttered over time. You'll want to make sure navigating your site is not confusing for people.
  • Calls-to-Action: Regardless of your industry, there is at least one major thing you want customers to do when visiting your website, so hone in on that and make it a focus.
  • Functionality: More people browse the internet on their phones than ever, so it's never been more critical to ensure your site looks great and is fully functional regardless of how people access your site.
  • Web Copy: Engaging, story-driven copy will keep people interested, and properly optimized copy is also a key component of SEO (Search Engine Optimization), which will draw more people to your site via search engines like Google.

24 Sep 2024#205 - How I Would Build a Successful Online Business from Scratch00:16:28

I’ve been a digital marketing agency owner for over 20+ years, and needless to say, my business has changed so much in the last two decades. What worked for me fifteen, ten, or even two years ago doesn’t necessarily work today. I’m constantly looking at my business and trying to optimize, refresh, and revamp my current sales funnels, and I always recommend that my clients do the same.

But I was thinking the other day, what if I lost my entire business, all the contacts, all the automation, and all the sales funnels I’ve created for it? What would I do to start from scratch and rebuild my successful online business? With my marketing agency, I help new (or relatively new) online businesses do that all the time. So today, I will take you on that theoretical step-by-step journey of building a successful online business from scratch. Let’s get into it.

05 Oct 2021#68 - What is List Fatigue? 5 Ways to Overcome It!00:12:22

Do you find yourself scrolling past articles with titles like "7 Ways to Increase Your Email Subscribers by 20%" or "How to Gain More Followers on Social Media" because they all say the same thing? You're not alone. It's called list fatigue and it'll ruin most of your marketing efforts if left unchecked.

List fatigue happens when people are over-exposed to lists that don't provide any new information or are not keeping a pulse on what the reader actually wants to be consuming. Look, I know you're busy. You've got a million things on your plate, not to mention the fact that you're trying to grow your business and make more money. So, taking the time to pump out relevant, fresh new content can seem like just too much. I get it.

To help you understand list fatigue, prevent and overcome this, check out What is List Fatigue and How to Overcome It on my blog.

03 Sep 2024#202 - The Secret to a Successful Online Business that Will Surprise You00:14:34

Running a successful online business is not for the faint of heart. Building your business from the ground up takes strategy, grit, determination, and TONS of work. As business owners, we know that work is worth it, but what if you’re missing an essential element that’s holding you back?

When I talk to online business owners, they usually blame their lack of social media followers, absence of an email list, or even their own calendar for their business's lack of growth. I can usually guess they haven’t done this essential step in the first 15 minutes of speaking to them. Can you guess what it is?

Let’s get into it.

10 Aug 2021#61 - Marketing 101: Don't Cast a Wide Net, You'll Catch Nobody! Free Workbook!00:16:40

I have a theory that only a few digital marketers out there actually know anything about fishing.

When you read something online about marketing, people often bring up fishing. There is a parallel between catching a big fish and landing a new customer. It's an easy metaphor. That is why a lot of the advice you hear about how to fish for new clients is kind of terrible. They might know marketing, but they don't know the first thing about fishing!

This latest episode is pretty fishy, but in a fun, pun way! I'm also going to get back to the basics of digital marketing to help you build an actionable, affordable digital marketing plan that can yield results. From identifying your ideal customer avatar to suggested marketing tools, you can start to form a marketing strategy that is going to convert new clients quickly!

Check it all out in detail on my blog!

25 Feb 2021#37 - How to Kick Your Income Into High Gear with a Sales Funnel!00:19:24

Are you consciously aware of how you purchase products?

I’m not talking about the process of paying for the items in your cart. I mean the process that begins the moment you become aware of a product or service to the moment that you use it. It’s known as a sales funnel, and you need to be mindful of it for any marketing strategy to work.

In this episode, I am going to discuss how sales funnels are essential for any business that sells its products or services online. They are one of the most important pieces of automation that you can invest in, while also being one of the most complicated. Each step has multiple pieces, and each must be flawlessly executed to get the customer through the funnel.

If you’re ready to kick your income into high gear, take a listen and let’s go over the steps of a sales funnel together!

04 Feb 2021#34 - 5 Ways to Automate the Important Parts of Your Business00:19:54

How often do you find yourself overwhelmed by your daily to-do list?

As a small business owner, I know how quickly a to-do list can balloon to impossible lengths. There are always so many things to get done and only so much time to do them.

When you run a small business, countless small tasks are on your shoulders as you most likely wear several different hats. In larger organizations, these tasks would be the responsibility of dedicated employees, but you likely can’t accord a full-time worker to take care of your social media, for example.

This week, I am going to discuss some of my favorite strategies that you can use alongside hiring a virtual assistant with automation!

Does it sound like a dream to automate some of your processes in sales, client onboarding/offboarding, social media, invoicing, and project management? Dream no more! Tune into this episode and let's start to lighten your load.

04 Aug 2020#8 - How to Create a 3-Month Content Calendar in 1 Hour (Free Template!)00:25:18

Just like it is when growing a business, consistency is key when it comes to content creation. Especially if you're using your content to feed your opt-ins and email list (which you should!), you will see the most growth by getting your messages out to people regularly.

But once you know that, how do you go about making sure to deliver a new blog, podcast, or other content every week? That's where planning comes in, and my content calendar! Along with the link to this template (get it below), in this episode I share five main steps on consistently creating and publishing content to keep people engaged, including a full primer on using my template:

  1. Write it down: The first step is always to get those ideas out of your head and into actionable form.
  2. Finding your ideal customer avatar: Before you start publishing, consider who it is you want to attract with your content.
  3. Using the 3-month content calendar template: A full rundown on how you can use my template for your content.
  4. Recycle old content: Once you have a substantial backlog of content, consider recycling some for a new audience who may not have seen it yet. Just because you covered a specific topic a year ago doesn't mean it can't benefit someone new today!
  5. Create binge-worthy content: There are reasons people binge-watch certain TV shows, and finding that right hook will keep people coming back!

13 Oct 2020#18 - The Biggest Mistakes I've Made in 20 Years of Business00:16:44

As a small business owner, I've faced countless difficulties throughout my career and made my share of mistakes along the way. Since the next best thing to learning from your own mistakes is learning from someone else's, I decided to share some of the biggest mistakes I've made in my 20 years of running Jennie Lyon Digital Marketing and Virtual Assistant Services. The good thing is that I now know how to learn from those mistakes. But trust me, that wasn't easy!

Today I will revisit several of these situations and share the lessons I learned along the way! Here are some highlights of what you'll find this week:

My wake-up call to hire my own Virtual Assistant
Ironically, despite being a Virtual Assistant and knowing how helpful it is for business owners to rely on my help, I told myself for years that I didn't need a VA of my own. Instead, I would keep trying to do everything myself, no matter how unsustainable it was. Eventually, I took my own advice and saw my business thrive.

Growing my team
Along the lines of hiring a Virtual Assistant, my resistance to hiring team members was also holding me back. Just because I CAN do every part of a project by myself doesn't mean I should, even if there was an unlimited amount of time in the day. By learning where and when to delegate, I've been able to serve my clients better and get my life back.

Putting off my health and well-being
If you're a workaholic like me, you know how easy it is to get wrapped up in work and put off things like exercise. I fell into this trap, causing no shortage of adverse effects on my life and health. I had to experience this as a reminder that yes, you really need to consistently take care of yourself for many reasons. Staying healthy—besides the obvious benefits—even will benefit your work life. Getting back into my routine was one of the best things I ever did for myself.

16 Mar 2021#40 - 5 Surprising Ways a Graphic Designer Can Boost Your Business00:14:46

We all love being surrounded by lovely visuals, which is certainly true in digital marketing!

Every ad (even ones that are 95% text) uses graphic design to make them attractive to the eye. While most small business owners obviously can’t afford a full-time graphic designer, that doesn’t mean you don’t need one. Everything you turn out, from your branding and website to social media posts and emails, requires a visual touch. Thankfully, you can contract someone with graphic design skills to step in and save the day whenever you need something to look pretty, striking, or even “business-like.”

21 Dec 2021#78 - The Art of Social Media Marketing: 8 Common Mistakes to Avoid00:18:48

Social media marketing is the rocket fuel that makes your content go viral. The problem? It can be pretty difficult for many entrepreneurs to strike a balance between engaging consumers and to be focused on their core business. If you're not careful, though, you can easily transgress the unwritten laws of social media, and that will cost you time and money.

Social media marketing has changed the way businesses reach their customers' hands down. If you're on social media, then you've probably made at least one of these eight common mistakes; that's if you haven't made them all.

Let's look at how to prevent that in today’s episode: The Art of Social Media Marketing: 8 Common Mistakes to Avoid.

What you will learn:

  1. Working Without a Plan - Instead of letting your schedule fly by like the wind, why not use it to plan out the content you want to put online?ite with your target audience in mind but make it engaging.

  2. Assuming Your Audience is Everyone - If you try to reach everyone, you'll reach no one.

  3. Buying Followers - Buying followers will only hurt you because it makes it look like your company has something to hide.

  4. Choosing the Wrong Tone - Don't be afraid to experiment with using language on social media. Quirky, clever, funny — whatever works for you.

  5. Using Irrelevant Hashtags - Hashtags can be beneficial for staying on top of important topics and keywords related to your business, but like most things in life, they are only helpful if used correctly.

  6. Staying Silent - The world is talking about you every day. Are you talking back?

  7. Deleting Negative Comments -  Always remember to be sensitive when responding to negative comments on social media, or else you may come across as offensive or even desperate.

  8. Being Unremarkable & Unbending - Marketers assume that the only way they can make something go viral is if they use controversial topics or images to get attention — but that couldn't be farther from the truth.

New updates, features, and design trends come into play regularly. Maybe you were happy with the design a couple of years ago, but are you still content? Is it as effective as it could be, and optimized for mobile devices?

A successful audit will cover the full range of someone visiting your website from the first thing they see ("Point A") to the last action you want them to take, such as contacting you or making a purchase ("Point Z").

These are just a few aspects of a website audit, but you can get a sense of what we'll be covering in this week's podcast. Below is a rundown of the general main sections included in a website audit, which all fall into "frontend" items (what visitors will see) and "backend" items (the behind-the-scenes building blocks of your site):

Branding - Think of your website branding like a storefront window. The look and feel that you present is what will determine how effectively it pulls people in. You want to determine if your logo correctly represents you or your business and delivers the right message. Since this is one of the first things people will see, that leads us to the next item:

Home Page - The first thing I do during a website audit is to browse the home page to get a feel of the general user experience, from the branding to the "above the fold" content (the first things people see). Next, analyze that content: Is there enough/too much? Is the copy presented in a user-friendly way, or is it a single giant paragraph? This page needs to be easy to read and convey what you offer as briefly as possible.

About - A good about page will humanize you, give visitors a sense of who you are, and how and why you created your business. I learned long ago that my about page gets a ton of traffic since people want to know who I am, so I often recommend including an opt-in here to encourage people to sign up for my newsletter.

Services/Products - Whatever it is you offer, you'll want your service or product pages to have a consistent look for ease of use and "scannability." Make sure your copy is easy to digest with smaller paragraphs and bullet points when possible. Including Calls to Action here can get your services and product pages to convert for you.

Blog - Blogs are good for SEO (search engine optimization) and to help position yourself as an expert in your industry. Plus, the more free content that you offer, the better. One of the more important things you should do when auditing is to ensure links inside blogs still function. Especially on older posts, it's common to find broken links. But people can still find these posts useful, so you want to make sure everything still works properly!

If you have a blog already, you'll find that you can get a real sense of the most popular content with your readers by checking your website analytics and using that as a guide for future content and blogs.

Contact - You'll want your contact page to be crisp and clean, simple, but informative. An effective contact page contains your contact info (email, phone, social media, or any avenues you want people to use to contact you), a Call to Action, and physical location if applicable.

Last are those "backend" items. These are things that visitors don't see, but are vital for keeping your site running correctly and effectively.

Security - Ensure you have an SSL certificate, and if you don't have any security plugins installed, you should! You'll also want to ensure you're using secure passwords, keeping plugins up-to-date, and enabling security options.

SEO - Optimizing your pages and posts for search engines is a must to get the most traction online. If your site is on WordPress, I recommend a plugin like Yoast SEO to help guide you for this step and ensure every page is optimized for maximum reach.

Website audits can take a couple of hours if you're to give every corner of your website a proper look. I recommend a full audit once a year, while general maintenance is an ongoing task that you should do at least monthly.

If all this sounds like a lot of work, it is! But I am here to help: See the links below to get a free download of my Ultimate Website Audit Workbook! Of course, if you don't have the time or resources for a website audit, we do these all the time, so don't hesitate to contact me to learn more.

19 Jul 2022#106 - How Getting Real on Social Media Can Grow Your Business (+ Free Download)00:27:59

Are You Sharing Your Authentic Self With Your Audience?

Followers online are fickle creatures, and they can sense when they are being sold inauthenticity. To maintain trust with your audience, you must learn to bring your most authentic self to everything you post on social media. People don’t like being kept at arm’s length and do not like being lied to. So is it possible to cultivate authenticity for your audience when sharing yourself so openly online might not be second nature to you? Absolutely!

Today we’re going to cultivate authenticity online and show you how to show your best self online and build connections with your audience!

How to Authentically Connect With Your Audience

To connect authentically with your audience, it helps to understand why they’re following (or would follow) you in the first place. Do they share common ground with your struggles, passions, or desires? Have you done the market research to determine which demographics gravitate to you, and what kinds of trials and tribulations are they going through that would make them find comfort, help, or entertainment in the services you provide?

Your Struggles Are Pure Gold

People crave being understood. It’s a natural part of being human. When someone discovers another person who relates to their struggles, worries, or problems, they feel less alone and forge connections. Connecting to your audience authentically requires you to be willing to share parts of yourself that are vulnerable. If you only convey your wins and never your mistakes or failures, that feels less authentic because audiences know that nobody is perfect, and no venture goes precisely according to plan. Sharing those bumps and swerves in your journey with your audience is intrinsically relatable because we’ve all been there! We’ve all struggled to move forward and experienced the grind of failure after failure toward a solution that works. Sharing those stories with your audience creates opportunities for them to understand more about your story and empathize with your journey, conveying a stronger sense of authenticity and integrity.

Sharing is Caring and It Equals Big Money

Understanding your own story and sharing it with others is essential to connecting with your audience. Take the time to sit down and map out what got you into your business in the first place and why you decided to pursue it. Get personal: have you always wanted to pursue your current business, or did you have other aspirations? What skills and experiences have you gone through to grow your existing business, and where do you hope to see it grow in five years? Were there people in your life who encouraged or challenged you in a way that steered you onto your current career path? These stories fascinate your audience, and sharing them will help build a greater understanding of who you are and why people should root for you!

How to Get Past the Discomfort of Authenticity

Not everyone is naturally comfortable sharing with strangers. Not everyone is comfortable speaking in public! That’s okay because you can learn how to improve your confidence in time and practice. Still, it does take serious practice, and you may need to work at it until you get to a place where you feel great about being open and vulnerable in front of your audience.

Actors and public speakers, for example, take classes and spend a lot of time practicing and preparing to be confident speaking in front of crowds or a camera, so don’t feel overwhelmed if you’re not there yet! It takes time, and that’s okay.

Preparedness is the Key to Skipping Discomfort

A lot of the discomfort from speaking on camera comes from lack of preparation, so the easiest way to curb that feeling is to take some time to ruin a few takes on purpose and let yourself practice talking about yourself. You’d be surprised how many seemingly improvised short videos where people are just riffing to the camera are the third, fifth, or twelfth take! As you practice, you’ll naturally edit yourself, and your thoughts will become more concise and stay ready at the forefront of your mind when you need them.

Using Video to Build Close Connections With Your Audience

Speaking directly to your audience with a video is the quickest way to share the real you online. The less scripted or rehearsed, the more honest you sound, which makes you appear more trustworthy.

If you’re not used to public speaking or recording and posting videos of yourself, now’s the time to start! The beauty of modern technology means that you can set up a mock video post whenever you want! Set up your phone and record a few minutes of yourself talking about who you are and what your company does, then watch it back and look at how you come across on camera and where your mind goes when you’re speaking off the cuff.

Video Practice is Nice, But Getting it Done is More Important

It takes practice to get good at treating a camera lens like the person listening to you on the other end of the internet, but you can erase those practice videos, and no one has to see them, so don’t worry about messing up! You’ll naturally find yourself refining how you speak about yourself and your company naturally the more you practice, which will make conversations and video posts easier the more you work at it. Eventually, you’ll be such a strong presence that you’ll be ready to try Instagram Live and talk in real-time to your audience in the chat!

So much of the way we connect gets lost in translation when we text or email. Building your confidence enough to post videos of yourself sharing your message on social media is the best way to convey who you are, what you’re about, and why people should listen to what you have to say!

The Benefits of Authenticity (Your Business will Grow)

There are so many natural upsides to being your authentic self online. Most importantly, it’s easier to keep a consistent brand if your brand is YOU! If you’re trying to be someone else or an inauthentic version of you that you think your audience wants, that’s not sustainable.

When your audience feels like they understand you and where you’re coming from, they are much more willing to go to bat for you and root for your success than if they were communicating with your brand. On social media, effective small business owners build the core integrity of their brand around their authentic drive, character, and passion for what they do, and audiences can feel that and relate to those highs and lows.

Your Vunerablity is the Key to Your Success

People want to support the underdog, the tenacious inventor, the passionate hobbyist, the risk-takers, the entertainers, the movers, and shakers! They don’t care about brands on their own; there will always be another brand to come along and do what you do in a slightly different way, but there will forever and always only be ONE of you. That makes you unique and someone worth rooting for!

By the way, I’ve got a great free download you can use to make the most of social media you can grab here! And I have a ton of other social media workbooks, checklists, templates and freebies that will help you grow your social media by leaps and bounds.

Think about it, today our phones have more information on them than what most of us keep lying around the house. That's the cold hard truth, and why many of us are choosing to ride the privacy wave.

We are always looking for new ways to deliver the content that customers demand and marketers' jobs depend on. This includes privacy measures and personalization of targeting information in order to satisfy those who purchase products or services from you, which we completely understand; but at what cost?

One thing we have learned from algorithms and Facebook is that marketing changes daily. Just as we all have been pivoting in our marketing plans since iOS12 - the same applies here.

Find out what's in store and how you can prepare your business for changes in email marketing on today's episode with The Key iOS15 Update and Who's Going to Lose.

18 Aug 2020#10 - What 5 SEO Tips Will Boost You in Search + Free Workbook00:20:50

SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, is vital for getting people to see your content, but not everyone knows how it works. Luckily, that's what I'm talking about this week! In this episode, I'll explain what SEO is all about, and more importantly, how you can tailor your site to fare better in search results.

Proper SEO includes defining what you want to accomplish through optimization and how to reach those goals. I'll also explain your content's importance, go over proven "good" SEO practices, and explain "bad" techniques to avoid that can negatively affect your search ranking.

Below is an overview of the tips I'll share in this episode:

  1. Set Goals: Like all of your marketing efforts, you should first start by setting specific, measurable SEO goals.
  2. Create a Strategy: This includes keyword research for yourself and competitors, to see what works for them.
  3. Use the Right Tools: I discuss three of my favorite SEO tools that help with everything from analysis to content and keyword suggestions.
  4. Content is Still King: It's essential to have your site configured properly. Even more important is having relevant, unique, and well-crafted content that makes all the difference in bringing more people to your site.
  5. Is There Good SEO and Evil SEO? Yes! It's equally important to use "whitehat" techniques as it is to be aware of and avoid "blackhat" methods.

06 May 2021#47 - Webinars: Live or Evergreen? How to Decide00:18:03

I genuinely think a webinar is one of the best pieces of content that a small business owner can make.

They are absolutely fantastic ways to position yourself as an expert online and reach out to your audience on a personal level. However, there can often a question about the type of webinar you should create. Should you do it live? Or create a pre-recorded, evergreen piece of content?

In this week’s episode, I’m going to be answering that question. Personally, I think it’s a bit of a false choice. When it comes to the question of live vs. evergreen, you can have your cake and eat it too… so long as you have a little help (like a VA) working in the background!

That’s one of the reasons why so many small business owners just keep plowing ahead with “what works” rather than making a change that could dramatically benefit their business. There are too many unknowns! That’s one of the biggest reasons why more people don’t make use of a virtual team. Bringing on someone from outside your business can seem like too big a change!

20 Oct 2020#19 - How to Create a New Subscriber Nurture Sequence00:16:27

In business, it's critical to follow up. If you leave potential customers and clients to their own devices, the chances are that they will get distracted by their daily lives. To keep them as active prospects, you need to nurture the relationships. A great way to do this is through an email nurture sequence. With several short and simple emails, you can start to build a relationship and eventually lead your new email subscribers to become full-fledged clients!

In this week's podcast, I'll explain the importance of your email list and why you can't rely on your social media following alone. But more importantly, I'll discuss what goes into creating a nurture sequence, starting from a lead magnet to your first email to new subscribers, and a structure for subsequent follow-up messages.

Finally, we'll talk a bit about two vital parts of any email campaign. This means ensuring you're offering an enticing Call-to-Action (CTA) and the importance of sounding authentic, so your readers don't feel like they're reading form letters or fill-in-the-blanks templates.

I hope you find this information helpful and don't miss my free checklist linked below!

28 Jul 2020#7 - 8 Steps to Automating Your Client Onboarding00:15:27

Proper onboarding for new clients is essential! Not only to make sure projects run smoothly from the beginning, but to cement a solid client relationship from the get-go. But it's no secret that this process can take a massive amount of time!

The key, of course, is automating our client onboarding process. By automating basic, required tasks, you will be amazed at how much time you save. I hear from my clients over and over again how much they LOVE my client onboarding process. So much so that many of my clients hire me to create their onboarding process! In this episode, I share my eight steps for onboarding new clients. I encourage you to customize them to your needs, but this is what works for me!

  1. Offer a consultation: A free phone call sets the foundation of your potential relationship.
  2. Send a welcome kit: A well-built welcome kit should introduce your new client to you in an easily-digestible fashion.
  3. Get that e-signature: Use a system like DocuSign that's easy for you and your client to collect required signatures.
  4. Make payments easy: You need to get paid for your work, so it's vital to make paying you as seamless as possible.
  5. Follow up: Sometimes, clients fall off the radar (or seem to!), so keep in touch to keep them engaged.
  6. Kick-off call: Dig deep into your client's business needs, strengths, and weaknesses so you know precisely how you can help them.
  7. Manage your projects: Proper use of a project management system will keep you on track and ensure everything gets done on time.
  8. Track your time: Once you're on the clock, make sure you're really on the clock, by accurately tracking your project time.
