Send us a text

On this episod we sit down with David Flaherty, owner of Left Coast Spey.

David Flaherty and I live in Eugene Oregon on the Pacific Northwest where he own a casting
instruction business for both single hand and two hand rods.

"I started this business as there was a lack of specialized instruction while being a short distance to great year round opened rivers that have trout, steelhead and salmon opportunities. The major players that focused on spey casting and fishing are 2-3 hours away north or south and I saw an opportunity and need while also offering a different approach in a private teaching setting to cater to each person individually as we all learn differently to some degree. I fish year-round for multiple species, but the one species I focus on the most and travel throughout the year for are steelhead. Whether it be summer, fall or winter there’s always a river that has opportunities and I strictly only chase them by the means of a swung fly with a two hand rod generally referred to as spey rods. I’ve been fortunate to work with a few companies in the rod and line realm doing photography work for casting and fishing photos while also giving feedback for the rivers we fish. I’ve invested in a multitude of lines and rods searching for that perfect balance system and where its become a specialty of mine for matching systems together. I have a huge passion for helping others and I’ve seen so many people give up on it because of the lack of help or knowledge and why I’ve become an advocate on teaching so they can experience why it’s so amazing and allow them to understand it first hand without the struggles."

Send us a text

On this episodes we sit down with Jordan Young-Treadway from the Pacific Northwest Washington State.

An avid fly fisherman, outdoor enthusiast and fly fishing guide. The ultimate ambition I have is to welcome and share my passion for the outdoors with everyone I come in contact with.

“For myself, exploring the outdoors particularly through fly fishing has had a tremendous positive impact on my life and I want to help open the doors for others just as those who have done for me. I understand that not all people have easy access, opportunities or role models that they can relate to in the outdoor world. I want to be the person that helps bring down the barriers and helps people explore the outdoors and fly fishing. By sharing my dedication and love for the rivers, forests and open spaces within them.

Whether its swinging for steelhead, stripping streamers for eager bull trout, or hooking into the salmon of their life I will always strive to create positive impact on as many lives as I can!”

14 Oct 2022#38 RepYourWater With Garrison Doctor01:21:35

Send us a text

On this episode we sit down with Garrisons Doctor co-founder of RepYourWatet.

“I was born in Boulder, Colorado where I spent as much time as I could outside. There is no fishing tradition in my immediate family, but for some reason I have always been captivated by fishing and catching fish. After I got my first fly rod at about age 10, my love affair with fly fishing was sealed. While my passion has always been fishing, my dedication and education have been in fine art. I have been drawing and painting since before I can remember. In 2011 my wife Corinne and I started RepYourWater apparel. RepYourWater is the perfect mix of my passions, a place where I can combine art, design, fly fishing, hunting and conservation. Today we live in a small town just outside of Boulder. When I am not traveling the world in search of fish, or floating on a western river, you will probably find me at our office/warehouse with the music turned up too loud or in my fine art studio making a mess with pastels…”

11 Nov 2022#42 Axiomatic Fly Fishing With Carlie & Roxie Allen01:23:22

Send us a text

On this episode we sit down with the dream team!

Charlie and Roxie Allen started Axiomatic Fly fishing in early 2022. Charlie had already been fly fishing for 14 years and sudo guiding for the last 4. Roxie, new to fly fishing but eager to learn and always ready to hit the water was ready to learn her way up to guiding and almost always rides along on their trips- helping rig up rods, pass out food and beverage and assist in anyway possible. Their roots in fly fishing are very different - Charlie grew up in Utah, and had a few brief interactions with a fly rod before moving to Oregon with his father in 1996, He didn’t touch a fly rod again until 2008, when a friend of his took him out to the Deschutes river where he had that glaring moment when he knew fly fishing had set its claws in him. Roxie has a different story- as an LA native, her path to fly fishing was in the form of long drives to the Sierras and up to the Pacific Northwest exploring rivers. After making a move to Oregon in 2020 & then meeting Charlie, she began learning the swung fly. It was their third date; he took her to the McKenzie river and it’s all down stream from there.

18 Nov 2022#43 Spey Rod Adventures With Paul Watts01:44:40

Send us a text

On this episode we welcome Paul Watts from the Pacific Northwest.

"My love for Spey Flyfishing comes from growing up in Northern California where my Dad taught me to fly fish for trout in a small creek, being to young to truly appreciate the sport at such a young age I did not stick with it but it planted a seed that stuck with me. As I got older that seed came up and I found the passion and love for it because of the joy, peace and making of new friends it brings to me while on the river where I forget about everything that is going on in the day to day grind.

So the love and passion that I have for it I want to share that with people by connecting with new and old friends so they can experience the peace and joy of being out in nature standing in the river with your line dangling next to you feeling the river flowing over your body and watching your line swing down river hearing the river flow by and hearing your thoughts disappear into the wild forgetting about everything as if you are spending time with a old friend."

09 Dec 2022#46 The Outlaw Of Fraser Valley. Nicole Lynn01:05:52

Send us a text

•“Born the daughter of a horse-rider and fly angler, I was taught by my Dad at a young age  to get on the horse and stay on, and that regardless of being a female, I could do anything he could do. I was handed a fly rod at the age of 7 and with my fist cast I snagged my dad in the neck. I thought that would be my last cast. Years of horseback riding, and fishing Fraser Valley, lended way to a passion of the outdoors. More recent incredible experiences fishing Washington State ignited a fire inside me which could not be extinguished. Fly fishing soon became my greatest passion. A rather difficult span of time in my life required incredible self-healing, and fishing became my outlet for mending a broken heart, reclaiming my identity and rebuilding self worth. Every cast healed me, bit by bit.

Simultaneously, both my parents were incredible artists. My mother practiced painting with acrylics and watercolours. I aspired to match her talent. Years of trying different mediums, crafts, and seeking alternate forms of entrepreneurship, I finally found a purpose for my style of art - right here within the fishing community.”

Creating digital and acrylic artwork and logos, often with a spin of American traditional tattoo flash and a sense of dark humour, Nicole Gatter has had her art featured in Fly Fusion Magazine, and currently runs a line of apparel, prints and decals for sale on her website (linktr.ee/OutlawFishingDesigns). She is also a Fishing BC ambassador and proud team member of Linear Fly Fishing.•

03 Dec 2022#45 Red River Channel Cats With Kelsey Bell01:13:20

Send us a text

On this episode we nerd out with birds & fly fishing. Our guest 👉🏻 Kelsey Bell currently living between Manitoba and Wisconsin has a few passions.

“To put it simply, I am a bird specialist with a fish infatuation! I grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba and was introduced to fishing as a small child. While in university, I fell in love with birds and decided to pursue a career in bird conservation. I ended up meeting my husband while working on a grassland bird study in North Dakota and he introduced me to fly fishing. For lack of a better term, I was immediately hooked! Back in Manitoba, and thanks to the Manitoba Fly Fishers Association, I learned to target Channel Cats on the fly and I quickly became obsessed. For me, there’s nothing quite like a cat on the fly. Your rod doubles over and the drag starts peeling the instant they hit! Even though Manitoba isn’t your typical fly fishing destination, there is an amazing community of fly anglers here! I’m very lucky to have found some great friends and mentors to show me the ropes.”

17 Feb 2023#59 Rising To The Fly with Julia Michell & Temma Roby01:24:05

Send us a text

Great time getting to know Julia & Temma. We chat about how they found fly fishing, what it means, and where the idea came for “Rising To The Fly”.

“Rising to the Fly” co-founders Julia Mitchell and Temma Roby are pleased to announce the launch of their non-profit dedicated to breaking down economic barriers to make fly fishing accessible and inclusive to all women.

“The concept came to me several years ago when I had some lightly used fly fishing
clothes that didn't fit anymore and thought they would be perfect for another angler" said
Mitchell. “My experience with United Women on the Fly, committed to diversity on the
water, and NorCal Women on the Fly, focused on getting local women on the water,
made this a natural extension of those experiences.”

The popularity of fly fishing is on the rise, with more and more women discovering the
sense of community, peace, and accomplishment with the sport. It is estimated that only
about 33% of people fly fishing today are women making it somewhat challenging to
navigate getting started.

Roby added “When Julia approached me with this idea, I jumped at the opportunity. Not
only is our mission aligned with my previous work with underserved communities, and
my current work with NorCal Women on the Fly and United Women on the Fly but I
have recently and personally experienced the transformative impact fly fishing can bring
someone, from a mental health perspective”.

” I grew up in the fishing industry. My grandparents ran a fishing lodge and my parents owned a guide business. When I turned 18, I got my captains license and started working in the family business. When I got older I began working in the medical field until I went back to school and graduated from UAS with my degree in fisheries and started working for ADF&G soon after. In 2020, I decided to take my rod building addiction professionally and founded Alaska Rod Co to give Alaskans an in-state rod company they can rely on.

Send us a text

On this episode we sit down with Mischa Dziezyc, we head to the midwest to chat about his journey in fly fishing.

“ I’m an all around adventure type fisherman, always looking for new water and new friends to fish it with.
I love sharing my knowledge with others as well as learning from them.
I solo fish a lot up in Grizzly/Cougar/Wolf country which adds to the spice if you may. Knowing you’re not the only nor the dominant predator is humbling.
I will always love cutties but browns have my heart.

I’m just getting into Salt as far as my finances allow but made my first trip to Florida last year and was a bone fish away from getting the Gran Slam first try.

I tie real good knots, like real good knots. Take a lot of pride in my knots and line knowledge (it’s what I do for work)

Work: I work for JHFLYCO and do everything fly fishing from inventory, to new fly creation, testing etc.”

24 Mar 2023#67 Timber & Fin With David-Alexandre Chabot01:14:57

Send us a text

On this episode we head to Quebec to chat with David-Alexandre Chabot, the founder of Timber & Fin.

We talk mostly about David’s career life, and how it changed dramatically when the pandemic started.
Already having a business in mind, he decided to take it as an opportunity to start a company making high quality products. Starting with wood and ended up working with leather. His mission now is to create quality gear that can be passed down generations.

David-Alexandre Chabot is a former lighting designer from Quebec's Eastern Townships. Over the course of his 15 year career within the theatre industry, his passion and interest for design and the arts have consistently grown. His work has been shown across Canada and internationally, eventually earning him a Cochon d'or award for Best Lighting Design. Having recently left lighting design behind in order to focus on his true passion: fly fishing, he became frustrated by the lack of responsibly-made, high-quality gear on the market. This inspired him to start Timber&Fins, a company dedicated to crafting heirloom-quality fly fishing gear.

David was born in Quebec's Eastern Townships. His love for fishing started at a young age, when he and his brothers would spend hours throwing worms at whatever would bite.

His passion for fly fishing was ignited six years ago, when he caught his very first trout using a fly he had tied the night before. More and more fascinated with the sport with each passing day, but unable to find quality fly fishing products that were responsibly made, he was moved to create Timber&Fins. We are committed to crafting heirloom quality fly fishing gear that enhances your fishing experience and that can be passed down from one generation to the next.

Timber&Fins is a company dedicated to crafting heirloom-quality fly fishing gear that enhances the fishing experience and can be passed down from one generation to the next. Founded three years ago by David-Alexandre Chabot, Timber&Fins was created out of a desire to provide high-quality, responsibly-made fly fishing products. Visit us at
