Two men, James and Donovan Cloud, were arrested and in custody by Monday 10th June for the White Swan Murders which took place on Saturday 8th June 2019. Laura and Rob discuss the harrowing and unbelievable details of the horrific 1963 rape/murder of 21-year-old Kathleen Heathcote. Despite Ronald Evans receiving a life sentence for this offence, Evans was moved to an open prison in Bristol after 10 years and released. Evans re-married and he began targeting and raping women.    Following an undercover operation codenamed Operation Argus, he was arrested and charged with five of the sexual assaults. He received a nine-year sentence. In 2018 he was released in North London where he switched up his MO and started targeting women once more. As she jailed Evans for four years last November, the judge said: "The risk you pose to women is significant. The combination of your history and continuing sexual interest underlies my concern you are a risk of serious sexual harm to women."   83-year-old Evans is back before the Parole Board in October 2024. On April 2 2021 6-year-old Corey Micciolo was taken to Southern Ocean County Medical Center in New Jersey by Christopher Gregor. Corey sadly died at 502pm, alone without his mother present. Corey had been discharged from Jersey Shore Medical Center the night before and was given a clean bill of health, bar many bruises and contusions on his body after he was abused by Gregor on a treadmill on March 20 2021. Corey was due to be interviewed on April 2 by a trained child abuse evaluator – he never made that appointment.   Laura and Breanna unravel the timeline going to back to when she first met Gregor, his behaviour and the warning signs prior to sweet Corey’s death. Laura interviews Australian author and advocate Lauren Trevan about the national crises of men killing women and her book Now I See You. We recorded this episode just after the horrific Bondi attack by Joel Cauchi on April 13 2024, where he stabbed 18 people including a nine-month-old baby killing her mother, Ashlee Good, and four other women, Dawn Singleton, Jade Young, Pikria Darchia, Yixuan Cheng and one man, Faraz Tahir, who died trying to protect women. Cauchi was shot dead by a brave female Inspector from New South Wales Police, Amy Scott, who single handedly pursued him through the mall.   There has been an increase in male violence to women and femicides with many Australians taking to the streets to demand urgent action to end male violence to women. At the start of Domestic Violence Prevention Month in Australia, women are quite rightly angry, and Laura wanted to focus on women’s voices, honour the victims and spotlight what needs to change. Laura interviews Kerri Rawson, survivor, advocate, New York Times bestselling author and daughter of serial killer Dennis Rader, who gave himself a horrific moniker due to how he bound, tortured, and killed his victims.   On Friday 14th July, 59-year-old husband and father of two, Rex Heuermann, was charged with the murders of Melissa Barthelemy, Amber Costello and Megan Waterman. Their remains were discovered within a quarter of a mile of one another covered in burlap along Ocean Parkway on Long Island’s South Shore in 2010. Heuermann is also suspected of other murders including Maureen Brainard-Barnes.   Kerri’s father Dennis Rader was 59, the president of the church, and married with two children when he was arrested in 2005. He was later charged with the murders of 10 people in Wichita and Park City, Kansas between 1974 and 1991. He is suspected of others. Rader centered himself in the Gilgo Beach Murders on Friday 21 July, writing a letter to Fox News Digital laying out similarities between himself and Rex Heuermann.   Laura believes men like Rader and Heuermann hide in plain sight and are overlooked for similar reasons. Just like what’s happening with the Heuermann case right now, when Rader was arrested, his family, friends, and co-workers were shocked to discover that the serial killer police were hunting had been among them, going to work, raising his children, and acting ‘normal.’ But Laura doesn’t buy into that. She believes we are asking the wrong questions and that we must use the framework of coercive control and make the invisible visible.   Whilst working at the FBI in Quantico, Laura continued her research and analysis into serial perpetrators, which included an in-depth case conference with the FBI profiler who played a pivotal role in Dennis Rader’s capture, interviewing Rader for more than 30 hours. One question Laura asked related to domestic abuse and control related behaviours. Laura was informed there was no abuse at home. Now, in this raw and honest interview, Laura finally gets to the bottom of what was really going on at home – and like with many cases, a very different picture emerges when we ask the right questions of the right people.   Join Laura as she unravels the warning signs of how to identify serial killers far earlier. In this episode, Laura interviews award winning writer and reporter Audrey Gillan about her remarkable BBC Scotland podcast, Bible John: Creation of a Serial Killer. If you haven’t listened to this 10-part series, you really should.   In the 1960’s Patricia Docker, Jemima MacDonald and Helen Puttock were brutally murdered in Glasgow. You may not be familiar with these names or the women, but it’s a case that has haunted Audrey all her life and it’s an important case for Laura too. Both Audrey and Laura explain why in this episode.   Patricia, Jemima and Helen were strangled and killed after a night out dancing at the Barrowland Ballroom which was located in a mercantile area east of Glasgow’s city centre . Their bodies were discovered just a short distance from their homes. All three women were young mothers of small children.   Laura highlights seven problematic myths regarding the case, which she believes are significant obstructions to solving the murders. In this episode Laura talks with special guest Henry Riley, LBC journalist, about Sarah Everard’s abduction, rape and murder by Wayne Couzens, a Metropolitan Police officer. What followed was a nationwide outpouring of grief, shock and anger. Women shared stories of male violence whilst the Metropolitan Police downplayed Couzen’s as an unfortunate ‘bad apple’ and declared he ‘was not a police officer.’ Since Sarah we’ve heard nonstop about police officer’s including David Carrick perpetrating abuse and violence towards women. More recently Wayne Couzen’s extensive indecent exposure history was revealed, and the fact women reported him but the Metropolitan Police Service failed to act. Henry shares his investigation into PC Terry Melka, a police officer convicted of indecent exposure who is still a serving Metropolitan police officer. Laura details her experience of working in the Metropolitan Police and how police perpetrators were dealt with. This important interview was recorded on the day Baroness Louise Casey published her deeply disturbing 363-page report detailing institutional racism, sexism, misogyny and homophobia in the Metropolitan Police. On Easter Sunday 2015, experienced skydiver and new mum Victoria Cilliers undertook a parachute jump, a gift from her husband, British army sergeant Emile Cilliers. During the skydive both her standard and reserve parachutes failed to open. Victoria plummeted 4,000 feet to the ground at Netheravon Airfield in Wiltshire. Miraculously she survived. Whilst recovering, police arrived at her door. Laura and Tina discuss Shane Jenkin’s violent history, his time in prison, the 2022 Parole Board hearing where it was determined Jenkin was too dangerous to release compared to the 2024 Parole Board Hearing where it was recommended Jenkin was ‘safe’ to be transferred to an open prison, ready for release.
