10 Jan 2023E.44 Body Dysmorphia and Laxative Abuse to Fit and Healthy Personal Trainer00:47:03

In this episode we are honoured to have Ruby Padwick who shares her emotional story and journey with body dysmorphia and abusing her body with laxatives. Ruby really does give us the honest and painful reality in this episode to which I was so grateful. She shares with us a story that I'm sure sadly many can relate to. The best part about it though is that she has turned it all around and although sometimes struggles with certain stigma's and expectations from being in the fitness industry she has such a positive attitude and mentality and no longer "hates" her body but loves it.

Ruby and I discuss the following topics:

  • Her career
  • What role fitness plays in her life
  • The pressures of the fitness industry
  • Body Dysmorphia
  • Diet
  • Eating disorders and the affect it has on your relationships
  • Laxative abuse
  • Periods
  • Optimal 4
  • Holistic Health
  • Plant-Based

In this episode I am joined by Jeremy May Co-Founder of the vibrant brand NICE who have paved the way in the movement to canned wine. To think that we used to drink from mini plastic bottles of wine if we wanted something on the go is crazy!

NICE have not only created a solution to on the go wine drinking but they have converted many consumers into enjoying canned wine who may have once thought it would have been a cheap low quality wine product.

Jeremy and I discuss the journey of NICE as well as the wine industry and the canned beverage movement, we discuss the following topics:

  • Why they decided to launch canned Wine
  • Why they named in NICE
  • How they have changed consumer habits and behaviour
  • The pandemic and how it had it's highs and lows
  • The product itself and how less is more
  • The three wine fits all model
  • The wine for whenever slogan and what that means

NICE has always been a brand that I have been interested in, from seeing their amazing pink branding everywhere I have always been intrigued in there story and product.

31 Jan 2023E.46 Andy Shovel Co-Founder of THIS; A Real Disrupter Brand That Captures Your Attention And Taste Buds00:46:02

I was honoured to be sat with Andy Shovel this week to discuss all things THIS. The plant-based meat alternative brand which not only has award winning and mind blowing products that capture the hearts of even the meatiest of meat eaters but it captures everyone's attention with it's creative marketing stunts as well as it's campaigns which you can't walk more than 2 steps in London without seeing THIS on either a bus or a London cab!

To speak to Andy about his journey from burger chain Chosen Bun to THIS was fascinating as well as hearing about his own personal journey to Veganism.

Andy wanted to actually disrupt the market, actually create a product for meat eaters and really make a difference and it's fair to say that he has definitely achieved this alongside his Co-Founder Pete.

In this episode we discuss the following topics:

  • Life before working in the food industry
  • The Chosen Bun days
  • What led them to starting THIS and why Meat Alternatives
  • How did you start the process of building THIS
  • The first product
  • The name THIS
  • THIS marketing - getting into trouble and capturing attention
  • Ingredients in meat alternative products
  • What three things have hugely contributed to the success of THIS
  • Andy's personal diet and journey from meat eater to Vegan

This (pardon the pun) really is a fantastic episode and THIS is a really fantastic product which has gone from strength to strength and I'm really excited to watch it continually grow

If you haven't tried the new THIS streaky bacon then run don't walk to your nearest shop!

07 Feb 2023E.47 Behind the Scenes of the World of Chocolate with Wilf from Islands Chocolate00:43:16

Wilf shares with us the art, beauty and trade secrets of the chocolate world in this episode! We are all used to adventuring off to find the most amazing cup of coffee, from beautiful independent coffee shops and paying for the experience of the barista making our coffee in front of us, seeing the beautiful coffee art and then tasting the different notes of berries or citrus. We are also used to heading to a secret wine bar and enjoying sips of wine from different regions and again tasting the different notes and tones depending on the grape and location it was grown in. But chocolate? Chocolate hasn't received the same appreciation, yet it is exactly the same process. A lot of chocolate we see on shop shelves has been mixed with sugars and additives to create a milky chocolate bar which we all know and love. However, there is so much that goes into the growing of the cocoa bean, the farms and the fruits which influence the taste of the cocoa and then the process to which chocolate is made.

Wilf the Founder of Islands Chocolate has brought Chocolate back to it's original art and beauty. They have their own farm in St Vincents in the Caribbean where they grow their own cocoa which then get taken to Belgium to be melted down into incredible bars, hot chocolate and spreads.

Islands Chocolate is used by chefs in top Michelin Star restaurants as well as Gails for their luxurious Hot Chocolate.

Wilf and I discuss the following topics:

  • How Wilf came to starting Islands Chocolate
  • Ethical and Unethical Chocolate Practices
  • Industry secrets and stories
  • Communicating the art and heritage of Islands to consumers
  • St Vincents and the Islands Chocolate Supply Chain
  • Climate Change and the affect on chocolate

This is a fantastic episode about the beauty of a product we all love - Chocolate!

14 Feb 2023E.48 Children's Nutrition and Setting Them Up For Life with Lara from Lune and Wild00:44:12

In this episode we are joined by Lara, Co-Founder of Lune and Wild which is a fantastic children's delivery service of frozen and prepared meals which help parents feed their children the right nutritionally dense meals, as well as feeding children's curiosity to all the world of food.

After hearing so many stories about people's unhealthy relationship with food, it got me thinking about upbringing and how introducing food into children's life is so crucial for the way they treat their body and continue their relationship with food into their adult life. Therefore this conversation with Lara digs deep into the importance of what we feed our children, the variety of it, introducing them to new flavours and ways of eating in order to really broaden their knowledge and understanding. It also focuses on the parents and how we shouldn't let our likes and dislikes influence children as that could then have an affect later on.

The topics we discuss in this episode:

  • Lara's journey to Lune and Wild
  • Children's Nutrition and what's important
  • How to create a positive relationship with food from an early age
  • Innovation in the food delivery space
  • Pleasing both the parent and the child
  • Plant-based and plant-rich
  • Raising your children plant-based

I also refer a lot to this documentary called Junk Food Kids, I have added the link here: https://youtu.be/CUPBU_mJUtA (highly recommend watching)

Lastly Lune and Wild have kindly given all viewers a discount code: GREEDYV5 - £5 off your first order

21 Feb 2023Ep.49 Wellness Is Not a Privilege with Georgie Spurling Founder of Arvra 00:54:11

This week we are depicting what Holistic Wellness really is with the wonderful Georgie Spurling, Founder of Arvra.

Georgie has had an incredible journey to get to where she is today, from being told that she would never be able to exercise again to now founding a holistic wellness app aimed at corporate companies who want to encourage their employees to fit wellness into their busy schedules. This is such a refreshing conversation where Georgie talks realistically about managing wellness without having to take hours out of our day to fit in these crazy workouts or going to the shops and spending a fortune on expensive ingredients just to make a salad.

We all say "we don't have enough hours in the day" but when it comes to wellness we do, firstly it is so essential to our performance and limiting stress, and also you don't have to do much in one day in order to feel a huge benefit.

Sometimes on social media we get made to feel that we aren't doing enough, eating clean enough or getting in enough steps, but Georgie and I discuss wellness on a more manageable and digestible level.

My favourite part of this episode is when Georgie states that wellness is not a privilege and this is so true.

The topics we discuss:

  • Her health journey
  • Her business journey from GS Wellness to Arvra
  • Where does Arvra originate from
  • Fight or Flight - how we process that
  • Corporate health and wellness for those who are time short
  • The power of food
  • Georgie's diet
  • Plant-based

I really hope you enjoy the episode!

28 Feb 2023Ep.50 Whole Supp a new nutritionally complete food source - Are we getting the right nutrition to feel our best?00:47:05

This week we are joined by former Professional Rugby Player Darren O'Reilly who is now the Co-Founder of Whole Supp. Darren played Professional Rugby for Leinster and Harlequins before retiring and returning to the corporate world. The difference between having a nutritionist with you every day to then being so time short that you rush for a meal deal or similar for lunch highlighted to Darren that there was a huge problem in receiving good quality nutrition quickly, accessibly and affordably and so Darren made it his mission to solve this problem.

Darren and his Co-Founder Dr. Brian Carson have been formulating Whole Supp for 2.5 years in order to create a drinkable meal which is nutritionally complete, packed with superfoods, affordable and accessible and it has now launched in two flavours, Chocolate and Vanilla.

We are now as consumers becoming more accustomed to drinking our meals in the format of a shake, therefore this is a really exciting market and one that we can all benefit from hugely

Darren and I discuss the following topics:

  • His professional rugby days
  • Nutrition
  • Importance of protein
  • The sad reality of being time poor
  • Formulating Whole Supp
  • Plant-Based

Darren has kindly given us a 10% off code to use to get our first Whole Supp order which is Greedyv - so get your order in and see what you think

Shivani and I not only discuss the power of setting out your goals into manageable and achievable bites but also how you can't achieve what you are striving for if you are not working and feeling at your optimum and this is where wellness, diet and lifestyle come into things. Shivani and I touch on what wellness looks like to her, what self-care she undertakes in order to keep her performing at her best and also her diet. 14 Mar 2023Ep.52 Marissa Co-Founder of Perfect Ted; Why Matcha is Better Than Coffee00:46:44

This week I am so excited to be joined by Marisa Poster Co-Founder of Perfect Ted the Matcha based energy drink which is aimed to introduce consumers to Matcha in a more approachable way! I have spoken to a few people now about coffee and how although it tastes delicious and most of us can't start our mornings without it, we also know that too much can give you the shakes, the jitters or even how one cup of coffee can suddenly bring on a wave of anxiousness. Matcha is made from Green Tea, so it is a caffeinated drink but it has sustained energy which doesn't give you these jitters, anxious feelings or crashes.

Perfect Ted not only is a Matcha powder brand but they have also channelled the power of Matcha into an energy drink, so when you need that pick me up in the day you can go for something refreshing but also healthy and effective.

Marisa and Co-Founder Teddy and Levi have been on the recent season of Dragon's Den where they received 5 offers from the Dragon's taking deals from both Steven Bartlett and Peter Jones, therefore this is just the start of a really exciting journey for them.

I wanted to talk to Marisa about her struggles with ADHD and Anxiety and the role that coffee played in this. I also wanted to talk about Matcha and how they are going to tackle the challenge of introducing it to the UK and lastly I was super interested to hear in the behind the scenes of Dragon's Den.

Marisa and I discuss the following topics:

  • Anxiety and ADHD
  • Her relationship with Coffee
  • The power of Matcha and the health benefits
  • How Matcha is better than Coffee
  • Why a sparkling Energy drink rather than a Matcha Latte in a can
  • The journey to Dragon's Den
  • What we don't see behind the scenes
  • What's next for Perfect Ted

04 Apr 2023Ep.55 Annie Morris Co-Founder of Spoon Cereal; The Graft of Building a Sustainable Business00:39:22

Annie Morris started Spoon Cereal at the age of 23 with her Co-Founder and now Brother in Law Jonathan Shimmin. After going on Dragons Den and getting offers from both Peter Jones and Deborah Meaden there at the time small breakfast bar pop up catapulted into being a part of the FMCG industry and after being viewed by millions of people it completely turned their business upside down.

However in comparison to other brands in the granola space Spoon has lower brand awareness and this is because they have been slowly and quietly plugging away in the background in order to grow sustainably and stand the test of time. Other brands have come and gone whilst Spoon has been going from strength to strength, being the first in the granola space to bring out a pro-biotic granola and now going on to expand into the cereal market.

This podcast highlights the value of slow and steady wins the race and whilst we are in an environment where investment, angels and venture capital get talked about very often sometimes step by step and not running before you can walk also works.

In this episode Annie and I discuss:

  • The journey from the early days where they had a breakfast pop up at popular commuter locations
  • The decision for Annie to quit her job and focus on Spoon
  • The relationship between the co-founders
  • The graft that went in to the early days
  • Dragons Den
  • The granola market as a whole in 2013 and now in 2023
  • The cereal market vs granola market
  • Probiotic Granola
  • Annie's relationship with granola

18 Apr 2023Ep.56 Mikey Pearce; His Journey to Taking Plant Based to the Mainstream with Clean Kitchen00:41:42

We are joined by Mikey Pearce, former YouTuber and now the Founder and CEO of Clean Kitchen. Mikey's journey to Clean Kitchen started from a personal health kick, like many of us Mikey spent the lockdown days eating healthier and focusing on a more plant-based diet, as well as getting into his fitness. Mikey ended up losing 16kg and thought that if he was enjoying a plant-based diet then surely others would too. This is what lead him to his mission to bring plant-based to the mainstream and although Mikey doesn't come from a background in food, he does have a flare for building brands, so he decided to build a plant-based brand and promote it like an artist was promoting an album. At the time plant-based wasn't looked at as cool but Mikey wanted to make it a destination, somewhere people wanted to hang out and a brand that other brands wanted to partner with for events to bring plant-based to the masses.

Although this concept sounds amazing the reality of it is challenging and the brand has accelerated at a rapid pace so we talk to Mikey about his journey to date, the highs and the lows and what is coming next.

The topics we discuss:

  • Life before Clean Kitchen
  • Lifestyle as a YouTuber compared to lifestyle now
  • His journey to plant-based and healthier living
  • Where the idea for Clean Kitchen came from
  • Making an idea reality
  • Bringing Verity on board and how the two complement each other
  • The pace at which Clean Kitchen has grown
  • Biggest Challenge
  • What does the future of Clean Kitchen look like

02 May 2023E.58 Being Your Best Self and Not Comparing Yourself To Others with Angus Warburton00:49:32

This week we are joined by Angus Warburton who is a fitness coach, podcast host and author of the book "Are You Really Living?".

In this episode, we discuss his journey to where he is today in building his fitness career and why he chose this path in life. Angus is part of the Warburtons family and therefore could have followed in his Fathers' footsteps and gone into the family business. However, fitness had such an impact on Angus's life, it started out as an escape, a focus and a goal but turned into a passion where he wanted others to feel the positive effects of fitness in the way that he did.

Angus has now been in the fitness industry for 5 years and is a firm believer in not only the physical benefits that come with exercise but also the lifestyle and mental benefits too.

This episode digs deep into a lot of hot topics that we are confronted with on a regular basis, although we touch on the importance of fitness and diet we also discuss the effect social media has had on society, how we live in a comparison culture where we are constantly comparing ourselves to the top 1% of society which creates unrealistic expectations that leads to a cycle of self-loathing and a lot of self-criticism.

Angus also shares his decision to not go to University and the benefit this has had on where he is today. Although University is fantastic for careers in professions such as Law and Medicine, it shouldn't be expected of everyone and Angus firmly believes his decision to not go has helped him hugely to where he is today.

It has now been 675 days and Savannah has run a minimum of a mile every day! Which has not only improved her mental health dramatically but has completely changed her life. In this episode we are joined by Mike the Founder of Vegan Cheese Brand Honestly Tasty. Honestly, Tasty started in 2018 to fill the huge gap of delicious plant-based cheese alternatives. Vegan Cheese was often left behind, when alternatives started appearing and changing consumer habits, you would often hear the phrase, "I can't be Vegan because I love Cheese too much" and there was a stage where the Vegan Cheese alternatives were really disappointing.

After Mike turned Vegan his love for Blue Cheese was really being tested due to there being no alternative on the market, therefore Mike went to Berlin, did a cheese-making course and made it his mission to create his own alternative. After positive feedback from friends and family Mike decided to leave his real estate banking job and turn his attention to the challenge of starting a plant-based cheese brand.

23 May 2023E.61 The Art Of Running With The Irish Physio Aidan O'Flaherty00:52:02

This week, Aidan O'Flaherty, known on Social Media as the Irish Physio, joins me in my kitchen to talk all things running. I met Aidan when I injured myself in preparation for the London Marathon. During our sessions, it occurred to me firstly, just how knowledgeable Aidan was on all things running and recovery and also how little I knew about how to run properly and recover effectively.

I then decided to bring Aidan onto the podcast to talk about these topics in more detail as the lockdown resulted in a lot of us taking to running in order to clear our heads and add movement into our days, however with that I'm sure came injuries and niggles that ruined the fun.

Aidan's history starts with a football career and due to multiple injuries led him to physiotherapy where he has completed a higher-level certificate for exercise physiology and worked in the NHS for a number of years before working in private practice. Aidan's focus is on running and running injuries as he has also completely fallen in love with the sport and therefore aims to help athletes and recreational runners continue to enjoy the amazing sport.

Aidan also had a past with an unhealthy relationship with alcohol which he opened up about on this podcast and although it's a hugely moving story it's incredible how he has completely changed his life and lifestyle as a result.

Topics we discuss:

  • His childhood
  • Aidans early career in football
  • How he pivoted into physiology
  • His personal injuries and recovery
  • The benefits of running for our physical and mental health
  • Importance of strength training
  • Importance of nutrition
  • Importance of sleep
  • Aidan's personal diet
  • Aidan's relationship with alcohol
  • Turning Sober

This is a fantastic episode which I wish I could have had before training for the marathon, it is so inspirational and if you are not currently a runner, I think this may inspire you.

27 Jun 2023E.66 Loui Blake; Turning Plant-Based Changed His Life and Career Overnight01:11:05

In my kitchen this week I am joined by Loui Blake who has pioneered the plant-based space since he turned Vegan nearly 10 years ago and has never looked back. Loui started off by working in the nightlife industry and also recruitment to which he then fell into some unhealthy habits which resulted in chronic fatigue and burnout. After researching many diets and ways of changing his lifestyle in order to have more energy he came across Dr. Sebi's Alkaline Plant-Based diet which he did for a month and has never looked back since.

After witnessing the results of the plant-based diet first hand Loui wanted to tell the world about how amazing he felt and in doing so he decided to re-direct is career to promoting the plant-based diet. This started with his first restaurant in Norwich called Erpingham House which was one of the first plant-based restaurants in the area, although a challenging journey it didn't put Loui off opening more restaurants in Norwich and London. Loui has founded Kalifornia Kitchen and Vegan Dough Co, as well as being a partner in by CHLOE.

Loui also has an impressive investment portfolio including brands such as Floozie, Club Cultured and his most recent investment into Miami Foods, to which he is now the CEO.

Miami Foods is an alternative protein brand which focuses on clean and natural ingredients, as quoted by Miami Foods, 'great tasting food, without the bad stuff'. After launching it in the UK Loui is now expanding into UAE as well as many other international markets.

As you can see Loui has quite the portfolio in the plant-based space and therefore this was a fascinating conversation where we covered the following topics:

  • Life before turning Vegan
  • Turning Vegan overnight and the way it made him feel
  • His relationship with food
  • Healthy Foods and what that means
  • Opening his first Vegan restaurant, Epringham House in 2016
  • His career in the plant-based space
  • His experience as an investor
  • What he looks for when investing into a brand
  • Miami Foods and his journey to becoming the CEO
  • The UAE and the plant-based industry
  • His daily wellness practices

04 Jul 2023E.67 From Brisbane to London; Emily Brogan talking all things food, Australia and being Gay00:30:07

This week I am joined in my kitchen by Emily Brogan the Australian girl from Brisbane who has moved to London and is a viral TikTok content creator who is renowned for her videos where she compares Australian culture to London culture.

Emily Brogan currently has 269.7K followers on TikTok and 10.3K followers on Instagram.

I was really looking forward to talking to Emily because all of her videos on TikTok involve food, although Emily isn't necessarily talking about food itself, she is preparing food at the time of chatting so I wanted to dive into what Emily's relationship with food is like and also how London differs from Australia in terms of supermarkets, brands and overall culture.

Emily also always prepares healthy clean food and so I wanted to learn more about her journey to eating clean and where that comes from.

Lastly, Emily is also really open about being Gay and as London Pride was celebrated last Saturday this conversation seems extremely relevant where we discuss how Emily knew she was gay, how she told her family and friends and how it is coming to a new city being Gay.

This was a truly honest conversation and a great chit-chat about all things food, culture and relationships

Topics we discussed were:

  • Emily's childhood
  • Why she moved to London
  • London v Australia
  • Emily's questionable love for Costa Coffee
  • Clean eating and Emily's 80/20 rule
  • Being Gay and her journey to telling her family and friends
  • Confidence

11 Jul 2023E.68 Why We Should All Be Taking CBD with Eoin Co-Founder and CEO of Good Rays00:47:25

This week I am joined by Eoin Keenan Co-Founder and CEO of Good Rays the UK's Fastest Growing CBD Brand which creates a range of products from CBD-infused drinks to Oil and Gummies.

Not only has Eoin started one of the first CBD brands in the UK but he has been working in the industry for a decade. In this time he has been in the regulatory space, working with industry-leading consultants in order to push for regulatory change in order to help open up new cannabis ventures and help the global movement towards enabling CBD to be legalised and consumed as part of a healthy lifestyle. During this time Eoin found the world's best growers as well as advise on the best products which stemmed the idea for creating Good Rays.

Unlike many other CBD brands, Good Rays contains 30mg of CBD which is higher than competitors and this is so you can feel and receive the full benefit of CBD whilst using or consuming their products.

Due to Eoin's extensive work in the field, I was really looking forward to having him in my kitchen to discuss the ins and outs of CBD. Why it is so good for us, why it doesn't actually make us high but it does relax us in a different way and what the regulations are currently but how they are due to change. If you are new or apprehensive about using CBD hopefully this one's for you.

As a consumer I have always been really sceptical about CBD which I think was mainly down to nerves and lack of education on the topic, but as of recently, I have become more and more interested in it and really appreciate how it can work in our favour and become part of a balanced and healthy lifestyle. I personally really enjoy the CBD drinks and have one if I am feeling particularly anxious or nervous

Topics we discuss:

  • How Eoin first became interested in CBD
  • Why he is so passionate about it
  • The International Cannabis Policy
  • Why and how the policies are changing
  • The plant itself and why it is so good for both consumers and the planet
  • The difference between hemp, CBD and Cannabis
  • Why CBD doesn't make you high but Cannabis does
  • Why CBD is so good for us and why we should incorporate it into our daily lives
  • Starting Good Rays and the journey so far
  • Where they get their CBD from
  • Competition and how they compare to the other players in the market
  • What's next for the CBD industry
  • What's next for Good Rays

08 Aug 2023E.69 The Effect Oral Health Has On Our Overall Health and The Environment With Dr. Simon Chard Co-Founder of PARLA00:48:59

This week we are deep diving into the world of oral health and the effect it has on our overall health and also how the products we are using are having a detrimental effect on the planet. I am joined by Dr. Simon Chard who is a Cosmetic Dentist as well as being the President of the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and the Co-Founder of Parla.

Parla is on a mission to redefine Oral Care for the next generation through producing products that are not only full of amazing ingredients but also use no plastic. All their products are in recyclable or re-fillable packaging and therefore the products are in the form of tablets rather than in a plastic tube or bottle. Their motto is one small change as just by changing the packaging that our toothpaste or mouthwash comes in we are having a dramatic effect on the planet.

Every toothpaste tube that you have ever used still exists today. They don't decompose and they don't get recycled which is a terrifying statistic and one which Dr. Simon Chard is hugely passionate about. The fact that by 2050 there will be more plastic in the sea than fish is unimaginable! Dr. Simon Chard through both his social media presence and through growing Parla is on a mission to make a difference and so his children and grandchildren can enjoy the oceans how we do today.

In this episode we also discover more about the link between our oral health and overall health and how gut health starts in our mouths and then works it's way down! I was also able to ask Simon some burning questions I had about the myths around dental care and what not to eat in order to keep our teeth and oral health in check.

Topics Discussed:

  • Simon's journey to Cosmetic Dentistry
  • The power of a smile
  • Simon's journey to Parla
  • How Parla products work
  • The effect the toothpaste industry is having on the environment
  • Oral health and the effect it has on our overall health
  • Fluoride in toothpaste
  • Dental hygiene myths and whether they are true or false

15 Aug 2023E.70 It Is Now Considered Socially Acceptable To Opt For Non-Alcoholic Wine With Wednesdays Domain 00:39:54

This week we are joined by Luke Hemsley the Founder of Wednesdays Domain the premium Non-Alcoholic Wine brand. We have seen a huge rise in the last couple of years in the no and low alcohol space, we have non-alcoholic spirit brands such as Clean Co which is leading the way in the spirits section, Lucky Saint is doing some impressive things in the beer world, but wine was definitely being left out until Wednesdays Domain came along. There is something really romantic about choosing a bottle of wine to have with your dinner or to take over to a friends house, it is the branding, the bottle itself, what you will pair it with, the conversations you will have with it and so on. There is a lot more to it other than the actual wine itself and that is exactly what Wednesdays Domain is playing on with their de-alcoholised red and white wine.

The idea came to Luke during the Pandemic, where like many of us Luke returned to his parents house which resulted in the drinking of a lot of wine. This unsustainable habit made Luke realise that although he really enjoyed sitting around the table chatting and drinking with his family at the end of the day, the headache the next morning wasn't really ideal when he had to work. This gave Luke the idea to look for non-alcoholic alternatives to which in the wine category there were very little, this is when Wednesdays Domain was born.

I think as consumers we are becoming increasingly aware of our health and performance and therefore having brands such as Wednesdays Domain create non-alcoholic alternatives where we can dip in and dip out of drinking is really exciting.

Luke and I discuss the following topics;

  • His journey to coming up with the idea for Wednesdays Domain
  • The process of making de-alcoholised wine
  • The flavour profiles that he had in mind for the white and the red
  • The no and low market and the increase in the rate of adoption from consumers
  • The health benefits of non-alcoholic wine
  • Their target market
  • The similarities between flexitarian and opting for non-alcoholic
  • Luke's journey to cutting back on wine

22 Aug 2023E.71 How James Cadbury is following in his Great Great Grandfathers footsteps in Founding HIP and Love Cocoa 00:48:26

This week we have James Cadbury joining me in my kitchen to talk all things chocolate! Being the great great grandson of John Cadbury the Founder of Cadbury which we all know and love, it's not surprising that James was inspired by his families history and story.

James founded in Love Cocoa in 2017 which is a luxury chocolate brand focusing on gifting and offering a more premium chocolate experience, after taking Love Cocoa to Dragons Den the brand has gone from strength to strength with the hope of Love Cocoa stores opening in the future.

In 2020 James noticed a real gap in the plant-based chocolate space, we were letting oat milk take over our lives, but no one was using oat milk to make chocolate. Therefore as Cadbury was the first brand to add dairy milk to their chocolate (hence the name Cadbury Dairy Milk), James thought that he would be one of the first to start adding Oat Milk to cocoa in order to create the same delicious creamy chocolate experience that the plant-based market was missing. With a lot of consumers now opting for oat milk over dairy milk due to taste preference as well as the sustainability bonus, it seemed the obvious option and he was completely right!

HIP (which stands for Happiness In Plants) was born 18 months later in 2021 and over two years it has gone from strength to strength.

In this conversation James and I discuss the following topics:

  • Growing up in the Cadbury household
  • The influence Cadburys' has had on his career
  • The reasons behind starting Love Cocoa in 2017
  • His experience on Dragons Den
  • Why James started HIP
  • The process of starting HIP
  • How the two companies run alongside each other
  • How the plant-based space is looking in confectionary
  • Ethics and how James runs his two businesses in a sustainable way
  • How James has ensured that there is no plastic used in the packaging of HIP
  • What's next for both Love Cocoa and HIP
  • Last Meal

29 Aug 2023E.72 Is it healthy or just good marketing? With Sonny Drinkwater Co-Founder of Well Easy00:47:08

In my kitchen this week I have Sonny Drinkwater Co-Founder of Well Easy the online health food store which makes healthy living accessible and affordable for everyone.

After going through his own health journey of restriction, counting calories and obsessing over food Sonny fell in love with ingredients, good quality food which nourishes your body and is full of goodness rather than some of the other products you may find in supermarkets today.

But as Sonny began searching for all the best products he noticed how expensive, confusing and difficult it was, he found that he was ordering products directly from various different brands and it was just inconvenient. This is where the idea for Well Easy came from, creating a one stop shop for all health and wellness products so you can get all you need in one box.

Through starting Well Easy Sonny has dived into research about supermarkets, how ultimately they are motivated by profit rather than providing us the best quality food. Sonny has also researched a lot into ultra-processed foods and how these are becoming more and more popular and readily available and also highly promoted rather than the cleaner and more natural alternatives.

This is an episode where we deep dive into the food system in the UK and how we all need to be going back to basics rather than turning for fast, convenient and ultimately unhealthy alternatives.

The topics we discuss are:

  • Sonny's health struggles at university
  • Obsessive and controlled eating behaviours
  • Counting calories
  • How to build a positive relationship with food
  • Where the idea for Well Easy came from
  • How Well Easy works
  • The food system in the UK
  • UK supermarkets
  • Ultra-processed food
  • Running a food business and the challenges you face
  • What does wellness mean to Sonny

This week I am joined by the Co-Founder of Form Nutrition Natalia Bojanic where we talk about the power of protein in your diet for both your physical and mental health.

I have been a consumer of Form protein powder for 5 or more years and this is because it really is the best tasting Vegan Protein out there with incredible ingredients. 12 Sep 2023E.74 Melissa Tattam's Secret Obsession With All Things Organic, Anti-Inflammatory and Learning About What's Right For You 00:41:55

This week I am joined by my very good friend Melissa Tattam in order to dive into her secret obsession with Organic food, eating a balanced diet, and learning about personalised nutrition and anti-inflammatories. I say secret because many of you know a lot about Melissa's life and lifestyle but this area is one that she keeps to herself due to not being a qualified nutritionist and not wanting to advise incorrectly or mislead anyone. But she has done so much of her own research and gone through her own journey that I thought it was time to share it.

I think this episode is the epitome of the more you look the more you see because when you begin to research into health and wellness you realise how much we can do in order to be the healthiest version of ourselves.

Melissa has recently taken her health to the next level by going through a personalised plan with Pippa Campbell who is a Functional Nutritionist and with that she has found out more about her body, what vitamins she is low on, what her body can and can't process and a lot lot more!

Melissa is also passionate about making sure she is doing everything she can in order to feel the best version of herself and protect her body from the additives and chemicals that we surround ourselves with every day.

We deep dive into the following topics:

  • What does Melissa's diet look like

This week, I'm joined by Shivraj Bassi, Founder & CEO of award-winning wellness brand, Innermost. He graduated from Imperial College London and spent 10 successful years at Goldman Sachs in London and New York. After deciding to take a break from banking to reconnect with his health. During that process, he saw that more people were coming around to the benefits of better health, but against a backdrop of an industry full of confusion, contradiction, fads and gimmicks. He decided there had to be a better approach, which led to the creation and launch of Innermost.

Innermost burst onto the scene in 2017. It's science-backed nutrition products are now stocked at more boutique fitness studios in London than any other nutrition brand as well as leading retailers including Ocado, Selfridges, John Lewis, Sephora and many more. The brand has also had huge success expanding internationally with listings in some of the most prestigious hotels, spas and fitness studios in Asia, the Middle East and Africa. Revenues for the brand are growing at over 100% Year-on-Year. 26 Sep 2023E.76 The ACV based Non-Alcoholic Aperatif Which Has Changed The Game with Founder of Mother Root, Bethan Higson00:38:16

This week I am joined by Bethan Higson, Founder of Mother Root, who has created a magical, punchy, delicious and surprisingly healthy non-alcoholic drink, which is made using Apple Cider Vinegar.

A combination of Bethan's background in wine and champagne crossed with her being "pregnant and thirsty" yet disappointed with the options available, brought her to discover that New York bartenders had been recently experimenting with adding different vinegars to their cocktails in order to create another dimension to the flavour profile. This then inspired Bethan to start experimenting in her kitchen in order to find the perfect drink that she could have whilst pregnant and during the early years of Motherhood. Through taking her experience in wine, champagne and aperitifs Bethan started layering up flavours and balancing the different tones which created this complex yet delicious drink which although consisted of no alcohol had the sharpness and mouth feel of an alcoholic drink due to the vinegar element.

Bethan couldn't gate-keep this delicious recipe and so Mother Root was born in order to bring another, completely innovative drink option to the now expanding non-alcoholic market. As well as being a delicious drink, Mother Root has also been picked up amongst nutritionists and health experts due to the powers and benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar which is the main ingredient. So not only do these drinks taste amazing, but they consist of so many health benefits such as being anti-inflammatory, lowering your blood sugar levels and supporting your gut health.

This episode is so fascinating and just pushes the boundaries of what is possible within the food and drink space.

Bethan and I discuss the following topics:

  • Her journey to Mother Root
  • Her previous work within the wine industry
  • How wine has inspired the Mother Root recipe
  • Her obsession with sour
  • Taste vs Flavour
  • Drinking alcohol and the mouthfeel it creates
  • The power of Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Bethans relationship with drinking now
  • Balancing being a mother and a founder

03 Oct 2023E.77 Do We Focus As Much Attention On Our Personal Brand As Our Work and Business Strategy?00:50:32

This week I am joined by Alex Smith who is the founder of Basic Arts, his aim is to help you re-strategise in order to make big moves and out-win your competition! Alex works with many businesses both within FMCG and other consumer brands in order to refocus the aim, get unstuck and excel in your field.

Alex and I discuss the purpose and value of strategy and how it is often overlooked. We also discuss how strategy applies to all areas of our lives, business and personal. We often find ourselves focusing so much on how we are communicating at work, whether it's in the correct tone of voice for the business, whether we are moving in the right direction and towards the right goals and so on. But what about in our personal lives? This is as important!

Do we have goals that we are striving for? Are we communicating in the way that we want to be perceived? Are we being our true selves?

Strategy is the pillar for direction in everything that we do and it is the one thing that is so easily ignored!

The topics that we discuss are:

  • Alex's career to where he is now
  • We buy brands and not products
  • Challenger brands and how they cut through
  • Most common mistakes when it comes to strategy
  • Authenticity and the power of that in a business v fake it to you make it
  • Having a plan vs Being fluid
  • Hard work really pays off... doesn't exist
  • Growing your Linked In following
  • Personal Brand
  • Top brands that are doing well at the moment

10 Oct 2023E.78 Cocktails, Resilience and Being In The Right Place At The Right Time with Rob Wallis Co-Founder of MOTH 00:43:07

In my kitchen this week I am joined by Rob Wallis, Co-Founder of Moth the first single-serve canned cocktail brand which brings you a perfectly balanced cocktail wherever you may need it.

Moth wasn't always called Moth and it also wasn't always served in a can, so in this episode, I get to speak to Rob about the journey of MOTH, from having the idea to making it a reality and then pivoting in order to create a product which speaks to the consumers. In hindsight having a single-served cocktail ready to consume seems obvious as it isn't always convenient to have all the ingredients and spending the time creating the cocktail isn't for everyone, but no one was doing it. This is when Rob and his co-founder Sam had the idea to make the perfect old-fashioned that was as easy to drink as a beer.

This is when Buveur was born which then re-branded into MOTH.

In their journey, there was a lot of "luck" involved and being in the right place at the right time, although you may call it "luck" I would say that you create your own luck and there was a lot of hard work for 2 years before the pivotal moment that catapulted MOTH into what may seem like an overnight success.

In this episode Rob and I discuss the following topics:

  • Life before MOTH
  • Buveur and the re-brand to MOTH
  • The name MOTH and what it means
  • The vibe and culture they have created at MOTH
  • Relationship with Co-Founder Sam
  • How the journey started
  • The pandemic and how it changed the company
  • Being in the right place at the right time
  • What wellness means to Rob
  • Top bars in London
  • Rob's last meal

In my kitchen this week I am joined by Elisa Lune who is a Skin Health and Gua Sha expert and we talk about all things skin, from signs that we should look out for which may indicate that we need to change up our skincare routine, to how to stop ageing and how to protect our skin from pollution.

Elisa has worked in the skincare industry for many years from working on the shop floor in SpaceNK to working directly with top skincare brands such as Caudalie as well as taking courses in lymphatic drainage and Gua Sha. Therefore Elisa has a breadth of knowledge from products and trying too many which may cause "Space Face" (listen to find out what that means) as well as the ins and outs as to why Gua Sha is so essential for glowing skin.

The skincare industry is just so huge now and with TikTok constantly telling us the do's and don'ts whilst also sharing many people's skincare routine, I thought it would be super insightful to hear it from an expert.

We discuss the following:

  • What signs we can look out for that show that we need to change something in our skincare routine
  • Face mapping and what different spots in different places mean
  • Red light face masks
  • The power of Gua Sha and Lymphatic Drainage
  • Working from the inside out
  • How diet and hydration affect your skin

This week in my kitchen I am joined by James Collier Co-Founder and Head of Nutrition at HUEL. At the moment we live in a world where social media is where we turn in order to expand our knowledge on different topics and there are many highly regarded Nutritionists out there in order to help us do that, however, there are also many people out there spreading the wrong information and so it can often get confusing on what to believe and therefore what foods to eat and not eat. Therefore I thought I would get James back on the podcast in order to advise us on how to personally make the right decisions when it comes to our food, diet and nutrition.

We discussed the following topics:

  • What does ultra-processed food mean
  • Are all ultra-processed foods bad for us
  • Examples of when ultra-processed food can be good

***THIS EPISODE COMES WITH A TRIGGER WARNING ***

In my kitchen, I am joined by Lisa Unger who is an emotional and eating disorder therapist, she helps those who have been struggling all their lives with their relationship with food and with their relationship with themselves. Eating disorders are a type of mental illness that stem from some sort of trauma no matter how big or small and in this episode I wanted to ask Lisa how we can help those that we love overcome their illness and support them in regaining their love of themselves and food. 07 Nov 2023E.82 What we are feeding our dogs is worse than Mcdonald's with Georgia Toffolo00:41:56

In my kitchen this week I am joined by Georgia Toffolo to talk about all things dog nutrition. Toff really needs no introduction as I'm sure many of you have seen her gorgeous smile on your screens before, but in this episode, Toff and I are going to talk about a slightly different topic which links to her new business Wild Pack.

Wild Pack is a dog food brand paving the way for raw and natural food. We live in a world now where we are so aware of what we eat, how to live healthier lives, why we should be staying away from ultra-processed foods and how we should check the back of the labels to make sure we know what is inside our food. But what about our dogs' food? We have been conditioned to believe that the dried kibble that is crowding the shop shelves is the best option for our dogs' health when that isn't necessarily the case.

After Toff got her gorgeous dog Monty she had quite a journey with his health, his coat looked terrible, his breath smelt and his tummy was always making strange noises, after Toff got recommended to feed her dog raw food it completely changed Monty and consequently Toff's life and therefore she decided to start a brand promoting this lifestyle for dogs to make dogs healthier and happier.

In this episode we discussed the following topics:

  • Toff's journey to Wild Pack
  • How the idea came about
  • How the process of creating the product was
  • Packaging and logistics
  • Why is raw so good for dogs
  • What is actually in dog kibble
  • Signs to look out for that will indicate you need to change your dogs' food
  • Is food variety good for dogs
  • Dog treats, what is in them and how can they be better
  • The realities of starting a business

09 Jan 2024E.88 Weight Loss Expert - Why Women Are Prone To Gaining Weight As We Age! 00:58:53

In my kitchen this week I am joined by Louise Digby a BANT registered nutritionist and weight loss expert who is dedicated to assisting women in achieving their optimal well-being. Having guided numerous women, Louise identifies and addresses the underlying factors hindering them from reaching their weight goals, which include a sluggish metabolism, hormonal imbalances, and mindset challenges.

There is no denying that Women's bodies work very differently from Men's. In this episode we delve into how the female body operates, exploring why women are more prone to gaining weight compared to men and what we can do to prevent it. Key topics include the ineffectiveness of restrictive dieting, strategies to prevent metabolism slowdown, the impact of aging on our ability to process alcohol, and insights into maintaining youthful skin and boosting collagen levels through dietary choices.

16 Jan 2024E.89 We Don't Talk About Sexual Health Enough With Alex Griffiths Co-Founder of Roam 00:50:53

In my kitchen this week I am joined by Alex Griffiths Co-Founder of Roam a revolutionary sexual health brand that introduces innovation, sustainability, and confidence to the sexual wellness industry. I was so excited to have this conversation with Alex as I when thinking of topics I wanted to discuss on the podcast this year I realised that no one ever talks about sexual health enough when it is actually intrinsically linked to health and wellness.

Both Alex and his co-founder Ben grew weary of the industry's monotonous dominance by a single brand, Durex. Recognising the absence of a contemporary sexual health brand attuned to people's wants, needs, and desires in the market, they made the decision to fill that void.

Roam is boldly challenging the sexual health landscape by introducing genuine innovation to the market, which is truly exhilarating to witness!

In this episode Alex and I discuss the taboo topic of sex and sexual health whilst trying to work out why people don't talk about it, why people feel uncomfortable and why people don't see it as part of their own health and wellness.

The topics we discuss are:

  • Why do people find it awkward and uncomfortable buying sexual health products
  • Why is it important to normalise talking about sexual health and wellness
  • Why did Alex and Ben start Roam
  • Alex's previous career
  • The reaction from friends and family when Alex told them he was starting a sexual health brand
  • Lifestyle factors that affect your libido
  • The effect alcohol has on your sex life
  • The fact that sex is wellness
  • How to compete with Durex
  • Being censored online due to the nature of the product and topic
  • How to communicate with people that don't want to be communicated to
  • How do they want Roam to make a difference
  • What being sustainable and inclusive means to them

30 Jan 2024E.91 Discipline, Community and The Pressure To Look A Certain Way Online with Milo McCloud00:58:53

This week in my kitchen, we're joined by Milo McCloud, a fitness content creator and the Founder of Revive, a community centred around Hyrox. In this episode, I aimed to delve into the fundamentals with Milo, discussing his journey from school to university, his venture into entrepreneurship, and his evolution into a full-time content creator. Milo recounts his diverse experiences, from harbouring dreams of becoming a professional skier to ultimately dropping out of Exeter University, where he was pursuing sports science, in favour of heading to London and starting his career. But it is the lessons that you learn throughout all these experiences that prepare you for where you are today.

Throughout this episode, Milo shares insights into his physical transformation, from the initial desire to change his appearance to accomplish the remarkable feat of participating in both a bodybuilding competition and a marathon on the same day...insane I know.

But, such achievements come with a price—the pressure individuals impose on themselves or that society, particularly through social media, exerts to conform to certain standards of appearance and performance, potentially causing harm.

This was an amazing episode where Milo reveals the truths behind working in the fitness industry. But also it underscores the power of cultivating small habits and maintaining discipline, illustrating that one can attain anything with a determined mindset.

The topics we discuss are:

  • Milo's school experience
  • His dream to become a professional skier
  • Milo's university experience
  • Milo's career development
  • 2019 - Mindset shift
  • His fitness transformation

  • The pressure to look a certain way
  • Milo's diet
  • Milo's relationship with alcohol
  • Building Revive
  • The power of community
  • Posting and growing online
  • Where Milo wants to be in 5 years
  • Motivation vs Discipline

She pursued methods to enhance her appearance even if they compromised her well-being, leading to hormonal imbalances and a loss of life's joy. Recognising the need for change, Roxy embarked on a healing journey, transforming her life through dietary adjustments and shifts in her mindset and language. Eyeam emerged from this personal journey, as Roxy's healing journey empowers her to guide others toward healing as well.

27 Feb 2024E.95 I Was The First British Asian Woman To Swim The Channel with Leah Chowdry01:01:15

In my kitchen this week I am joined by Leah Chowdry who has made history by being the first British Asian Woman to ever swim the channel and she completed it in 14 hours and 44 minutes. Leah believes she was put on this earth to make a change and after a transformative experience in India, where she encountered the harsh reality of young girls subjected to exploitation and abuse, she was determined to effect change and break the cycle of suffering.

Upon returning home, Leah realised that no other British Asian Woman had swam the channel and this therefore motivated her decision to take it on as her next challenge. Leah's endeavour wasn't without its challenges, as she tirelessly raised £105,000 to support her cause. In this episode, Leah candidly shares the rigorous mental and physical preparations required and how surprisingly, it wasn't the physical demands of the swim that proved the hardest, but rather the mental strength needed to shift from a mindset of doubt to one of unwavering determination.

Leah's journey has been documented in her children's book, "Making a Splash," where she imparts the message that determination knows no bounds. Additionally, Leah has transitioned into a motivational speaker, collaborating with businesses and entrepreneurs to foster motivation and self-belief.

This episode is a testament to the power of mental resilience, embracing a can-do attitude, and conquering obstacles through sheer determination.

Topics that are discussed:

  • Leah's experience in India and what motivated her to swim the channel
  • The physical preparations involved
  • Her diet to prepare for the swim
  • The Asian community's response to her taking on the challenge
  • The mental challenge involved in the swim
  • The swim itself and the challenges involved
  • Writing her children's book "Making a Splash"
  • Becoming a motivational speaker at schools
  • Becoming a coach to founder and individuals on the power of mental strength and determination

12 Mar 2024E.97 Lockdowns Biggest Success Story; Let's Chat With Natasha Thomas Co-Founder of Lockdown Liquor00:58:53

This week in my kitchen I am joined by Natasha Thomas Co-Founder of Lockdown Liquor the premium bottled cocktail company based in London which completely took our Lockdowns by storm. Natasha and her husband Jack came up with the initiative whilst sat at home during Lockdown that they could create bottled cocktails that all you needed to do was shake and pour to have a delicious drink, with all the proceeds going to the NHS. With virtual socialising on the rise and many tired of squeezing endless limes for homemade margaritas, their bottles quickly became sought-after, signalling to Tash and Jack that they were onto something special.

Lockdown Liquor then made the transition from business-to-consumer (B2C) to business-to-business (B2B), shifting its focus from helping consumers enjoy their Friday nights at home to assisting the hospitality industry in providing premium cocktails during busy evenings, particularly when short-staffed. This pivot significantly altered the landscape. Lockdown Liquor values itself on using premium ingredients to ensure a premium experience so whether you are on a plane, train, bar or at home, you should never have a bad cocktail again.

In this episode, I delve into Tash's journey with Lockdown Liquor and the unique experience of launching a business during the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, I explore Tash's role as the founder of another venture, Total Management Group, an events management company, discussing how she manages both businesses alongside her responsibilities as a mother. Finally, we explore the strategic decision to prioritize trade over direct-to-consumer sales and the resulting opportunities it has generated.

This is an incredible episode about an incredible brand which I think you are going to love

The topics that were discussed:

  • Life before Lockdown Liquor
  • Why was Lockdown Liquor started
  • What did Lockdown Look like for you?
  • Starting a business during lockdown - the pros and cons
  • After Lockdown was lifted, how did the business change
  • When and why did you launch Easy Liquor
  • How do the two brands differ
  • How does Lockdown Liquor differ to others on the market
  • What's it like to work with your husband?
  • How do you find the work life balance
  • How do you feel being a female in a male-dominated industry
  • What's your relationship like with alcohol
  • Favourite Cocktail
  • Future of Lockdown Liquor

19 Mar 2024E.98 Collagen, Oil Pulling, Contraception and An Organic Diet with Melissa Tattam 01:05:29

This week I am joined in my kitchen by Melissa Tattam for another conversation about all things food health and wellness and what Melissa does at home to live a healthy life and feel the best version of her.

If you don't know Melissa she is the co-host of the podcast Wednesdays which she hosts with her best friend Sophie Habboo and every week they go through girlie dilemma's that get sent in. She is also known for her time on the reality TV show Made In Chelsea.

Melissa's ethos is that she wants to do everything she can at home to be non-toxic, nutritious and clean to then be able to enjoy herself guilt-free when she goes out. In this episode as well as discussing a healthy diet and lifestyle, we also touch on balance and what that looks like for Melissa. I think it is very easy to only hear about what we shouldn't do and what we need to remove from our diets to be healthier but I think balance is also important and treating yourself to what you love is all about living the life you enjoy!

Melissa's knowledge comes from a place of passion and curiosity, she is not a nutritionist or a professional in this field but instead, she is eager to learn and also be proven wrong.

You guys loved the last one and so we are back for more, so in this episode, we discuss the following topics:

Supplements

Collagen

Dairy vs Non Dairy

Oral Hygiene

Oil pulling

Contraception

Diet

26 Mar 2024E.99 "70% Of Your Immune System Is In Your Gut" - Jon Walsh Co-Founder of Bio&Me00:58:53

This week in the kitchen I am joined by Co-Founder of Bio&Me Jon Walsh.

Bio&Me is dedicated to promoting gut health and believes in the importance of dietary diversity. From granolas to porridge pots, their goal is to incorporate a wide variety of plants into every product. Founded by Jon Walsh and Dr. Megan Rossi, Bio&Me boasts a formidable team. With Jon's extensive experience in the food industry, having worked with renowned brands like Nestle, Procter and Gamble, and John West, coupled with Dr. Megan's background in science and nutrition, they possess the ideal skillset to revolutionize the market and raise awareness about the significance of gut health.

Recently, there has been increasing attention on gut health, which is fantastic considering its crucial role in overall well-being. Some even liken the gut to a "second brain" due to its influence on various aspects of our functioning and emotions. However, Bio&Me has been advocating for this long before it became a trend. Therefore, I wanted to speak with Jon about the journey of Bio&Me, its origins, and whether the heightened awareness of gut health is positively or negatively impacting the industry.

What's particularly refreshing about Jon's perspective is that he doesn't come from a scientific or nutritional background. Instead, he discusses gut health in straightforward terms, avoiding complex health terminology that can often be confusing and overwhelming. This episode is a fantastic way of understanding ways in which you can support your gut health as well as understanding why it is important that we all do so.

The topics we covered were...

  • Why is Gut Health so important
  • What are the affects of bad Gut Health
  • Why did you start Bio&Me
  • How did you bring Bio&Me to life
  • What is your role in Bio&Me and how does it differ to Dr Megans role?
  • What is added to Bio&Me that makes it so different to other brands on the market
  • What is the difference between Probiotic and Prebiotic
  • A lot of brands claim to have gut health benefits when they don't - how can they do this?
  • How can consumers really tell if a product is going to be beneficial to their gut health
  • How has the journey been bringing Bio&Me to life
  • Did you have to educate consumers when you started
  • Biggest challenges you faced as a business
  • What's next for Bio&Me/ any NPD you can talk about

09 Apr 2024E.101 How To Be The Best Version Of You with Izzy Utterson00:50:35

In my kitchen this week I am joined by the Glow Up Queen Izzy Utterson to talk about going back to the basics and making small changes in order to glow within. Izzy shares her personal transformation journey, transitioning from a period of struggles including binge eating and drinking, to finding happiness and self-improvement. She emphasizes that major transformations don't necessarily require extreme measures like juice cleanses or boot camps, but rather consist of making consistent, manageable changes on a regular basis, gradually leading towards desired goals.

In addition to Izzy's story, we explore the concept of "glowing up," highlighting its deeper significance beyond mere aesthetics. By focusing on personal growth at a fundamental level, one naturally undergoes aesthetic transformations as well.

16 Apr 2024E.102 What Is An Ancestral Lifestyle with Hunter and Gather Founders Jeff and Amy01:03:35

In my kitchen this week I am joined by the Co-Founders of Hunter and Gather Jeff and Amy. Together, we delve into the fascinating journey behind their rapidly expanding brand and explore the principles of the ancestral lifestyle.

Hunter and Gather is a company dedicated to real foods, initially gaining traction with their avocado oil-based mayonnaise containing only five wholesome ingredients. Since then, they've expanded their offerings to include a range of condiments, dressings, sauces, and supplements. Their core belief is that the key to guiding individuals towards optimal health and well-being lies in providing them with access to quality products.

The inception of Hunter and Gather stemmed from Jeff and Amy's personal food struggles. When seeking clean condiments to enhance their meals, they discovered a gap in the market. This realisation fuelled their mission to create products that align with their ethos of clean, natural ingredients.

At the heart of their brand philosophy lies the concept of the Ancestral Lifestyle—a return to basics, prioritising nature over the industrialised processes prevalent in modern society. In this episode, Jeff and Amy delve deeper into the principles of the ancestral diet, shedding light on how the proliferation of processed foods is contributing to widespread health issues and chronic illnesses.

This episode covers the following topics:

  • Jeff and Amy's personal food struggles which led them to Hunter and Gather
  • How their target market has expanded and changed since 2017
  • Supermarkets and whether they help or hinder consumers into making the right decisions

23 Apr 2024E.103 Mastering Marketing and Designing Your Dream Lifestyle with Georgia Aldridge 00:50:46

In my kitchen this week I am joined by Georgia Aldridge the Co-Founder of Sloane House Marketing which is a dynamic social media agency helping you grow your brand. As well as the agency Georgia has now opened up a studio where brands can use Georgia and her team to create their content as well as help with the strategy around sharing it.

In this episode Georgia shares her journey to founding Sloane House from barely making it through school to hopping from job to job with no real direction, to then finding her niche and doubling down on it.

Given the universal goal of online growth, I delve into key marketing enquiries with Georgia that are likely on the minds of many seeking to expand their presence online.

As this podcast primarily focuses on food, health, and wellness, I enquire about Georgia's interpretation of wellness. Her response diverges from the conventional, emphasising the pursuit of activities that bring her a sense of well-being and happiness, such as travel and freedom.

This episode delves into the concept of lifestyle design, highlighting the possibility of achieving one's desired lifestyle but acknowledging that it often entails making sacrifices along the journey.

This week in my kitchen, I'm joined by Julius Cowdrey for a conversation on mental health, addressing the growing issue of loneliness, and finding our safe space, whether it's through coaching or community support.

Julius, known for his stint on Made In Chelsea, delves into his personal journey, from his involvement in music and television to his current partnership with his twin brother in creating a platform that aids individuals seeking self-improvement but lacking the means for one-on-one coaching or specialised assistance.

We all encounter moments of self-doubt, insecurity, and adversity, but it's our resilience and strategies for overcoming them that truly shape our character. Julius opens up about his own challenges and the tools he's acquired to navigate through them.

While mental health awareness has gained significant traction, the prevalence of loneliness continues to rise. Despite our interconnectedness through social media, there's a profound sense of disconnection. Julius and I delve into these dynamics and explore various related topics in depth.

Topics discussed:

  • What mental health means
  • What lead Julius to this space
  • A time where Julius was at his lowest

14 May 2024E.106 Everything You Need To Know About Egg Freezing with Sarita Co-Founder of Amilis Fertility 01:00:00

In my kitchen this week I am joined with Sarita the co-founder of Amilis Fertility. Amilis is a one-stop shop for all things egg freezing, they refer to themselves as the best-friend that holds your hand throughout the process, guiding individuals to the right clinic and ensuring they feel supported every step of the way. Sarita's personal fertility journey inspired her to establish Amilis, recognising the lack of knowledge and support she experienced during her own successful but challenging egg-freezing process.

In the past two years, there has been a remarkable 250% increase in egg-freezing rates, reflecting a significant demand driven by shifts in lifestyle and society. Factors such as expanded career opportunities and a desire to explore life before starting a family contribute to this trend. This prompted my conversation with Sarita, where I delved into the intricacies of egg freezing: its procedures, associated risks, costs, and the misconception of guaranteed parenthood. The episode didn't just explore egg freezing but also delved into fertility concerns for both men and women, making it a truly enlightening discussion.

The topics we discussed were:

  • Sarita's personal fertility journey
  • Sarita's journey to starting Amilis
  • At 25 years old, should I be thinking about fertility now
  • The Egg Freezing process from start to finish
  • Egg quality
  • Do our lifestyle choices affect fertility
  • The prime age to freeze your eggs
  • How long do your eggs last in the freezer
  • The risks involved
  • Why do you need to collect so many eggs?
  • The price
  • Why the rate of egg freezing is increasing?
  • Why sperm count is decreasing
  • Men's lifestyle choices and the effect it has on fertility
  • Contraception

He’s appeared on the Forbes 30 under 30 list and was named one of Norway’s Top 10 Leaders under 30 for his work towards sustainable development goals. 28 May 2024E.108 F*ck Being Humble: How To Control Your Narrative with Stef Sword-Williams01:00:39

This week, I am thrilled to welcome Stef Sword Williams into my kitchen. She is the founder of the remarkable book "F*ck Being Humble," where she advocates for the importance of effective self-promotion and challenges the notion that modesty is always the best policy.

In the UK, we are known for self-deprecating, often downplaying our successes and mocking our achievements. This mindset isn't healthy! We tend to believe that we can only celebrate ourselves when others do so first, and that putting ourselves down will make others feel better. However, to reach our goals and be recognised, we need to learn how to self-promote.

Stef Sword Williams launched "F*ck Being Humble" in 2018 out of frustration with the conventional approach to self-development and the missed opportunities that came from not speaking up.

I remember attending an event where Stef spoke about self-development, and I thought, "I have to get her on the podcast." And now, here we are!

In this episode we touched on the following topics:

  • What do you mean by F*ck Being Humble
  • Why is modesty not always best
  • Why are we particularly bad at this in the UK compared to the USA
  • We care what other people think - but often that is just a reflection of themselves and how they are feeling rather than a reflection on you and your successes or wins
  • How can you promote yourself but also be gracious
  • Self-promotion also comes from confidence - what if your not confident?
  • Self-promotion is only for the self-employed?
  • Confidence vs Competence
  • In your book you touch on highlighting your failures but then also highlighting your strengths
  • Often we don’t see our own strength and failures - then what do we do?
  • Fake it till you make it - what are your thoughts?
  • Your journey to self-promotion and your career with Fuck Being Humble

25 Jun 2024E.112 Clean Beauty and The Power of Fragrance with Yasmin Founder of KODO00:39:57

In my kitchen this week I am joined by the gorgeous Yasmin to talk about her brand KODO, all things clean beauty and the power of fragrance when it comes to wellness, creating a moment or bringing back a memory.

While we all strive to improve our well-being through diet, exercise, and sleep, we often overlook the impact of the fragrances and creams we apply to our bodies and spray in our homes. The ingredients in these products can significantly affect our wellness and hormones

Yasmin, a fragrance enthusiast, noticed a gap in the market for home fragrances and clean beauty. She founded KODO to fill this void. Inspired by the Japanese tradition of KODO, where people gather to appreciate the art of incense, Yasmin aims to instil this same appreciation for fragrance. She encourages incorporating KODO into wellness routines, highlighting the health benefits of its clean ingredients and power to evoke memories of your favourite foodie moments.

We covered the following topics:

  • The power of smell and how it affects how we feel
  • The power of scent in re-surfacing a memory, or how a scent can remind you of a particular person
  • What does it mean to be clean beauty
  • What are some of the ingredients to look out for in fragrances and candles that are hormone disruptors and how do they disrupt our hormones
  • What other clean beauty brands do you recommend in other categories
  • The journey to KODO
  • How does KODO play a part in your everyday

02 Jul 2024E.113 How To Be A High Performer With Lewis Moody 01:11:42

This week in my kitchen, I'm joined by Lewis Moody, a former England rugby player, to discuss what it takes to excel both on the pitch and in life. Lewis has had an illustrious career, representing his country, winning World Cups, and turning his passion into a lifelong pursuit. However, upon retiring from rugby, he realised he needed to find a new passion for the next chapter of his life.

After transitioning from having coaches in all areas of his life to none, Lewis recognised the crucial role a coach plays. He decided to become a life coach and mentor, helping others achieve their goals. Lewis emphasises that while we might think we can succeed alone, having a coach is essential for providing feedback and guidance.

During his rugby career, Lewis also battled a chronic bowel condition called Ulcerative Colitis. Despite being told he would need lifelong medication, Lewis turned to the power of food. By completely overhauling his diet, he managed to heal his gut and eliminate his reliance on medication. Today, he lives symptom-free, thanks to his dietary changes.

In addition, Lewis founded the Lewis Moody Foundation, which raises money for those affected by brain tumours. In this episode, we discuss the importance of brain health and highlight how brain cancer, despite its prevalence, receives the least amount of cancer funding.

This episode is packed with insights on achieving high performance in both sports and life.

Topic Breakdown:

  • Lewis's upbringing and the discovery of his love for Rugby
  • How Rugby became his full-time career
  • Being a high performer and a specialist in your field

This week in my kitchen, I am joined by Sarah Carolides, an incredible nutritionist and the Head of Nutrition at Zooki, a brand specialising in high-quality supplements designed for quick and efficient absorption by the body.

In this episode, I wanted to discuss with Sarah why we need supplements when our grandparents didn't, why it's challenging to get all nutrients from food alone, and how to choose the right supplements and trustworthy brands.

Besides supplements, Sarah and I also explore which foods offer outstanding health benefits.

If you're like me and always striving to be the best version of yourself, this episode is for you.

Topics discussed:

  • How much of our vitamins can we get from food
  • Does everyone need supplements
  • How do we know which supplements we should be taking
  • How can own-brand supplements be so cheap
  • A lot of supplements don't work - how is that legal?
  • The power of Vitamin D
  • Do we need to be taking collagen

  • Magnesium - do we all need it and which ones should we take
  • Can we get all we need from a multi-vitamin?
  • Supplement absorption - liquid vs capsule
  • Which foods should we all be eating to get the most amounts of vitamins and minerals

03 Sep 2024E.120 Sam Currans Lifestyle On and Off the Pitch 00:32:06

In this week's episode, I'm joined by Sam Curran, the professional cricket player who represents both England and Surrey, and who was signed at just seventeen years old. I wanted to dive into Sam's lifestyle both on and off the pitch, exploring key wellness topics like sleep, supplements, and mental health. In professional sports, the mental game is just as crucial as the physical, so I was keen to hear how Sam manages the pressure to consistently perform at a high level and what strategies he uses to unwind.

We also discussed the strict rules and regulations around supplements, protein powders, and anything that could be considered an unfair performance enhancer in professional sports. This is a highly sensitive and tightly regulated area, to the point where even certain steaks might be off-limits due to the hormones they could contain.

Finally, Sam shared his passion for coffee, including the fact that he takes his coffee machine on tour with him. He’s also recently teamed up with his brother to launch a coffee company called Naked Grounds.

  • Being in the public eye you need to be mentally strong too - how do you cope with that
  • Sleep - during games you must come off the pitch with an element of adrenaline - how do you wind down before going to bed
  • Travelling - is there anything you take from home with you when your away for long periods of time food/drink or supplement wise
  • Your love for coffee
  • Naked Grounds Coffee Company
  • Supplements and the rules and regulations that need to be followed in professional sport
  • Competing against your brother in the game
  • Goals and aims for the future

15 Oct 2024E.125 Everything You Need To Know About Lymphatic Drainage with The Lymph Lover 00:57:54

This week in my kitchen, I’m joined by Carli Wheatley, also known on Instagram as the Lymph Lover, for an in-depth discussion on all things lymphatic! We explore what the lymphatic system is, how it functions, and how lymphatic drainage massage can help move fluid throughout the body. We also dive into the lifestyle changes and home remedies that can support a healthy lymphatic system.

In today's world, we're constantly exposed to toxins, which can cause blockages in our lymphatic system. That's why it's more important than ever to understand how it works and how we can keep it functioning optimally by stimulating it and eliminating these toxins.

Carli explains how lymphatic massages can be self-administered and how simple actions like breathing and sweating help remove waste from our bodies. She covers this in detail and demonstrates, in a bonus episode, how to perform a 10-minute lymphatic drainage massage at home.

If you’re feeling bloated, dealing with excess water retention, or think your body isn’t clearing toxins as efficiently as it could, this episode is perfect for you!

The topics discussed are:

  • What is a lymphatic drainage massage?
  • What are the benefits of it?
  • How does our lymphatic system work
  • Why can’t our body detoxify naturally
  • How often should we be doing a lymphatic drainage massage?
  • Does stress play a part on our lymph system
  • Our lymph system and sex drive is there a correlation?
  • Lymph and gut health?
  • What causes water retention?
  • The foods we eat and water retention

22 Oct 2024E.126 Why Is Everyone Talking About Mushrooms With The Co-Founders of London Nootropics00:46:40

This week in my kitchen, I'm excited to be joined by the co-founders of London Nootropics, Zain and Shez, to chat about all things functional mushrooms and adaptogens. We'll explore why so many people are incorporating them into their daily routines.

Zain and Shez are two friends who began adding functional mushrooms to their morning coffee after experiencing the benefits firsthand. Whether you're interested in supporting brain health, regulating the nervous system, or boosting energy without a cortisol spike, functional mushrooms have something to offer.

Over two years, Zain and Shez perfected their blends, creating Mojo, Flow, and Zen — each designed to target specific needs. They launched the brand in 2020, and by 2022, their appearance on Dragons’ Den, followed by investment and support from Deborah Meaden, rapidly increased their brand visibility, helping them grow into the company they are today.

In this episode, I not only want to explore the co-founders’ journey but also go back to basics to uncover why mushrooms are so beneficial for our health. We'll discuss which mushrooms offer which benefits, since it can be a bit overwhelming.

- Lion's Mane: Known as the brain mushroom, it supports mental clarity and cognitive well-being.

- Rhodiola: A stress-reliever, helping to combat both mental and physical stress.

- Cordyceps: Known for power and endurance, it's perfect for boosting energy, especially for fitness or pre-workout.

- Ashwagandha: The balancing mushroom, it stabilizes physical stress levels, promoting a sense of calm in the body.

In this episode we discuss the following topics:

  • What are adaptogens
  • Why did you start London Nootropics
  • The three different types of blend - flow - zen and mojo - how do they differ?
  • How do mushrooms work in our body?
  • Different mushrooms and their benefits
  • What’s the difference between shrooms and functional mushrooms
  • Mushrooms are becoming more popular in the health and wellness space - is there anything consumers need to look out for when choosing their products in this space?
  • Dragons Den experience and have you made any changes since

29 Oct 2024E.127 How To Level Up Your Health With Ed Foy Co-Founder of PRESS00:59:28

In my kitchen this week I am joined by Ed Foy, co-founder of the health brand PRESS. PRESS began as a cold-pressed juice company and has since grown into a full-fledged health brand with products that cater to every meal of the day, from breakfast to dinner.

10 years ago, Ed and his co-founder Georgie drew inspiration from the vibrant health and wellness culture in LA, aiming to bring that West Coast lifestyle to London. In LA, a focus on health and wellness fuelled demand for juices, wellness shots, leafy green salads, and chia pudding bowls—items that became symbols of a health-conscious lifestyle that people eagerly embraced.

Ed and Georgie started their journey by making juices at night and selling them by day at Old Street Station, where they quickly saw a growing demand. People were enthusiastic about investing in their health, and delicious, nutrient-dense juices were an ideal gateway.

In this episode, Ed and I discuss how to elevate your health through juice cleanses, the difference between cold-pressed and regular juice, and how the health and wellness industry is evolving.

Episode topics:

  • Health and wellness as a lifestyle rather than a diet
  • The press journey from LA to London
  • How the wellness landscape has changed
  • What is a cold-press juice
  • Juices vs smoothies
  • Juice cleanses and their benefits
  • PRESS has diversified into other products
  • Ed's journey to wellness
  • The power of breath work

05 Nov 2024E.128 Why We Should Eat Organs with Niall Kiddle 01:00:03

In my kitchen this week, I’m joined by Niall Kiddle, the founder of Organised, the world's first 100% natural beef organ protein supplement. Having Niall here was a real treat— as although our diets and lifestyles look completely different on paper, we actually share quite a few commonalities.

Niall’s journey into the Ancestral Lifestyle began around six years ago, inspired by Joe Rogan, Ben Greenfield, and Paul Saladino. Since then, he’s been captivated by how this way of eating has transformed his well-being, from boosting his energy and enhancing his skin to improving his overall vitality. His passion for the benefits of the Ancestral Diet drives his desire to share it with others.

One challenging part of the Ancestral Diet is the inclusion of organ meats like liver and kidneys. Although these are packed with nutrients, they’re not always easy to incorporate. That’s why Niall created Organised, a supplement that combines beef collagen, bovine colostrum, a bovine organ complex (including liver, heart, spleen, and lung), Celtic sea salt, raw honey, maple syrup, and date—all in one convenient serving.

In this episode, Niall and I delve into what the Ancestral lifestyle is all about, the foods he chooses to eat (and avoid), and the reasoning behind his choices.

We also dive into lively discussions on topics like raw milk, alcohol, and morning routines!

This episode is packed with insights you’re going to love. While the Ancestral Diet may not be for everyone, there are definitely some principles that we can all incorporate into our daily lives!

Topics we discussed:

  • Why should we eat organs?
  • Eating nose to tail - what that means and why it is important?
  • What is the ancestral diet?
  • Your journey to the ancestral diet and to starting Organised?
  • What is in organised?
  • What does it mean to live ancestrally
  • Does your diet/lifestyle ever restrict you?
  • Raw Milk
  • Why should people avoid supermarket milk?
  • Your relationship with alcohol

12 Nov 2024E.129 How Breathing Can Change Your Life with Simon Lamb01:01:02

This week in my kitchen, I'm joined by Simon Lamb, who uses various wellness practices to help people reconnect with nature, because as a society we are becoming increasingly disconnected. In this episode, we discuss his approach through Breath Work, Qigong, and Cold Water Therapy.

Our main focus is on breath work, exploring how intentional breathing can transform our lives. As Simon shares, our breath is our lifeline; when done improperly, it can harm our wellbeing, but when practiced mindfully, it can have a profoundly positive effect.

We dive into different types of breath work, from calming, relaxation-focused techniques that support our nervous system to more intense, transformative practices.

If you're curious about breath work or eager to learn more, this episode is made for you!

As well as focusing on the breath Simon and I explore a range of other topics such as...

  • The power of the breath
  • Why is breath work becoming more of a common wellness practice
  • Forgetting to breathe deeply and only taking short breaths
  • COVID masks and breathing - do you think this affected how we breathe now?
  • Some people can cry after breath work sessions - why is that?
  • Qigong - another practice you focus on - what is it and why do you focus on it
  • Nature connection - I feel like we are becoming more and more disassociated with the outside world - what damage can this do and how can we get back to some normality and association
  • Men’s Mental Health
  • Cold water therapy - I’ve heard it’s not great for women
  • Your own health and wellness journey

26 Nov 2024E.131 Taking The Pressure Off Of Perfect: Manon's Journey to Balanced Health and Holistic Wellness 00:48:31

This week in my kitchen, I’m joined by the incredible Manon Eleri—model, mum of two, and holistic health coach. Together, we dive into the often overwhelming pressure to be perfect and unpack Manon’s inspiring health journey.

Starting her modeling career at a young age, Manon shares how societal pressures led her to strive for an unrealistic body shape, resulting in orthorexia and over-exercising. In this candid conversation, she opens up about her transformation from a place of obsession to finding balance, acceptance, and joy in her relationship with food and exercise.

Manon also introduces the concept of Primary and Secondary Foods, which I absolutely love. She explains how the “primary foods” in life—like your relationships, career, hobbies, and love—are just as essential as the “secondary foods” on your plate. Manon shares her personal journey of nurturing both, highlighting the importance of creating harmony between these pillars of health.

We also discuss motherhood and how to raise children to be their healthiest selves while fostering a positive, freeing relationship with food.

This episode is an inspiring reminder to release the pressure of perfection and embrace holistic health in all areas of life.

The topics we disucss are:

  • Reflecting on your late teens/early twenties: what did health mean to you then, and how did you view your body compared to now?

Defining Health

  • What does health mean to you in your current life?

03 Dec 2024E.132 Solo Episode: My Biggest Insecurity 00:17:49

In this week’s episode, I’m back with the final solo episode of the year—a deeply personal one where I open up about one of my biggest insecurities. This has been an episode I’ve hesitated to record, as the topic feels trivial on the surface. Yet, I’ve come to realise its significance, not only in my journey but also in how it might resonate with others who feel similarly. My hope is that through sharing, listeners will feel seen, understood, and less alone.

Insecurities are often invisible to others but can feel overwhelming to us. Despite reassurances or external validation, the true resolution lies within—whether through self-acceptance, growth, or change. What may appear as a superficial concern often taps into deeper emotions like imposter syndrome, pride, self-worth, or perfectionism.

In this episode, I delve into these themes and reflect on how insecurities shape our inner worlds. To wrap things up, I also answer your questions on food, health, and wellness—a blend of the practical and personal to close out the year.

Tune in for an honest, reflective, and empowering conversation.

This week in my kitchen, I’m joined by Karlee Zhang, the founder of Hello Klean—a brand dedicated to protecting your skin and hair from the effects of hard water! Karlee’s inspiration for Hello Klean came from her personal experience. Travelling for work and encountering different water qualities, she noticed significant changes in her skin and hair. After much trial and error, she discovered that hard water, not her products or routine, was the culprit behind her sensitivities.

In this episode, Karlee and I dive into the science of hard water, its impact on skin and hair, and why filtering your water is a game-changer. We also touch on why London’s water is particularly notorious for causing issues.

If you’ve ever struggled with skin sensitivities like eczema, psoriasis, unexplained rashes, hair thinning, or brassiness, this episode is a must-listen!

Topics include:

  • Hard Water - what is it
  • Why does our skin and hair not love it - what can be caused by hard water?
  • Which areas in the UK struggle the most with Hard Water and why?
  • What was your personal experience with hard water and what made you start Hello Klean

Well Easy

Dark Chocolate and Pistachio Cookie Recipe:

(Makes 10 small cookies)

100g Organic Ghee

25g Raw Pistachio Butter + more to drizzle pre/post baking

150g Coconut Sugar

1 egg

175g plain flour

1 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp flakey salt

1 tsp vanilla paste

30g shelled pistachios, chopped

70g 80% dark chocolate chips

Method:

1. Preheat the oven to 200c. Add your ghee to a saucepan over medium-high heat and melt it down. Pour into your mixing bowl, add the 25g pistachio cream and stir together. Allow to cool for 10 minutes, it will be very hot.

2. Add the sugar to a bowl, then add the egg and vanilla. Add the flour, baking powder and salt.

3. Add the chopped pistachios and dark choc. Mix into the batter. Preheat the oven to 200c. Chill the batter for around 30 minutes, if not longer. Line a large tray (or two) with parchment paper and then scoop out 10 small balls of dough onto the tray, rolling them into neat balls then pressing down into a cookie shape, around 2cm thick.

4. Bake for 12 minutes roughly until golden but they will still be very soft. Allow to set for 15-20 minutes before digging in! If they firm up too much the next day, pop in the microwave for 15 seconds to re melt the chocolate

18 Feb 2025E.141 Cold Water Therapy and The Female Cycle with Laura Fullerton Founder of Monk 00:36:14

This week in my kitchen, I’m joined by Laura Fullerton, the founder of Monk, the first SMART ice bath and cold water therapy app. We dive into the fascinating world of cold water therapy, exploring the science-backed mental and physical benefits and why it’s becoming a must-have practice in so many wellness routines.

Cold water therapy has been shown to reduce inflammation, boost circulation, improve recovery, enhance mood, and even support resilience to stress—but did you know that for women, the key to unlocking these benefits lies in timing it with their cycle?

In this episode, we focus on how women can harness cold water therapy in alignment with their hormones, breaking the myth that ice baths are off-limits for women. In fact, when used strategically, cold exposure can enhance hormonal balance, metabolism, and energy levels, making it an incredibly powerful tool for female wellness.

Laura, a biohacking and data enthusiast, created Monk to bring a smarter, more immersive ice bath experience into the home—integrating seamlessly with wearables so you can track and optimize your cold exposure.

25 Feb 2025E.142 Periods, Contraception and Cycle Tracking with Empower Periods00:45:00

In My Kitchen This Week I’m joined by Victoria, the founder and creator of Empower Periods—a platform and community where girls can connect and talk openly about all things periods. Think of Empower Periods as your online big sister, always ready to share honest, helpful advice about your time of the month.

Victoria’s own journey includes a decade of struggling with chronic period pain, only to be offered contraception as a quick fix—a common recommendation that often masks the problem rather than solving it. But here’s the truth: chronic period pain isn’t normal.

In this episode, we break down what should feel normal, what shouldn’t, and share practical tips to help ease period pain. We also dive into the power of cycle tracking—highlighting the best apps to use and how understanding your cycle can transform everything from your workouts to your relationships and overall well-being.

It’s a real, unfiltered girl talk about the topics we often think about but rarely discuss. Don’t miss it!

The topics include:

  •  Your journey with your periods
  • 1 in 4 women don’t understand periods - so shall we break it down into the different phases of the menstrual cycle and what that mean?
  • Contraception what did you do - did it make it better or worse?
  • I know doctors sometimes prescribe people with contraception in order to help the battle with period pain - this seems backwards - thoughts on this?
  • What symptoms are “normal” to feel on your period and what’s “not normal”?
  • What has helped you when your experiencing bad periods? Any tips that people listening could take away from this?
  • Tracking your period - has this helped? What app do you use and
  • How have you changed your lifestyle according to tracking your cycle?
  • When did you have the idea to start empower periods and what impact has it had on you and also the community
  • What are some of the best things that have come out from it?
  • Talking about it with your housemates - the socials..let’s talk about it because it’s great
