18 Nov 2019 | 132 - You Have A Story To Tell with Diana Diaz | 01:02:47
Join us this October 13 in San Diego and let’s celebrate 8 years of Cafe con Pam Listeners this week we have a conversation with Diana Diaz. Diana is a skilled facilitator, keynote speaker, mitú writer, storyteller, and Founder of Real Authentic Women Wellness (RAWW), a revolutionary nonprofit focused on breaking mental and sexual health related stigmas for women. As a wife, mother of 4-year-old twins, and survivor of severe anxiety herself, Diana is an avid advocate for mental wellness. She was motivated by her life experiences to create RAWW as a way to initiate informed dialogue in safe and welcoming nonclinical spaces. Named RAWWTalks, these events draw upon the art of storytelling to cover topics of depression, anxiety, sexual empowerment, sexual trauma, sex education, mental abuse and many more subjects that are typically considered taboo. After interacting with the women impacted by RAWW’s work, she realized that there was a need for a tailored program that guides women in developing their voice. She found that most women had a story they wanted to tell but didn’t know how to tell it effectively. This led Diana to create the Your Story to Tell Academy, a 10-week storytelling coaching program to help women craft their own impactful narrative. Not only do women leave with a polished 6-10-minute personal story tested for public delivery, but they also gain skills and resources that will nourish all parts of their life moving forward. Recently, Diana was awarded the Community Champion of the Year by the Central California Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and was selected to perform as an official Storyteller at the 2019 #WEALLGROW Summit. Diana is amazing and I love how she noticed there was a need in the community for her to share about mental health and break the stigma. You're definitely going to love this conversation as it will inspire you and empower you to keep pushing forward. Follow Diana on all things social: Your Story To Tell Academy (YSTT)

Join us this October 13 in San Diego and let’s celebrate 8 years of Cafe con Pam Listeners, we're back this week with Jessica Yañez. Latina. Fierce. Fighter. A San Diego native with a laugh as big as her hair. These are just a few things we would use to describe our Founder and Host of The Wine & Chisme Podcast, Jessica Yañez. But that’s just the beginning. Jessica grew up in the suburbs of San Diego and has always had a curiosity for other people and their stories. As far back as she can remember, she would be the first to approach a new student at school, introduce herself, and want to know all about them. Not much has changed as her curiosity has lent itself well to learning more about the world around her. She specifically created The Wine & Chisme Podcast to amplify voices across communities of color and share their stories on career, love, life and more. All while sipping on a glass of wine. She launched the VERY FIRST directory of Latiné owned wine brands based in the United States and has since expanded into hosting virtual wine tastings that specifically focus on these vintner. She believes that people need to know that our community not only works the land, but owns the brands. During this episode we talked about:

17 Feb 2020 | 143 - Love the melanin in your skin and the curls in your hair with St. Clair Detrick-Jules | 00:46:00
Join us this October 13 in San Diego and let’s celebrate 8 years of Cafe con Pam Listeners, we're back this week with a conversation with St. Clair Detrick-Jules. Born and raised in Washington, DC, St Clair is the daughter of a first-generation Afro-Caribbean immigrant father and an American mother. Growing up in “Chocolate City”—as DC was affectionately called, pre-gentrification—St Clair was surrounded by Black excellence. And by “Black excellence” this doesn’t exclusively refer to the Black people who “make it out of the hood”; but also referring to the Black neighbors who fed others when times were rough, to the next-door neighbor Sheila who cornrowed hair for all the little girls on Meridian Place, to the single Black mothers on the block who successfully, lovingly raised their kids—and then their grandkids—on their own. St. Clair was educated (outside of the classroom) by other students of color who protested a campus presentation, and it was then that she realized the importance of fighting for justice and opposing inequalities. From them, St. Clair learned the importance of speaking up against injustice. St. Clair toured (and still occasionally do, upon request) with DACAmented on college and high school campuses across the country. When St. Clair studied abroad in Ecuador in 2016, she worked closely with one of her professors to create a curriculum for her semester entitled “Black Bodies in the Latin American Diaspora,” which gave her the chance to travel around Ecuador to meet with Black communities, which in turn expanded her ideas of Blackness (and, of course, hair was a part of her studies). Further, St Clair was also able to take courses across a broad range of disciplines—in the Ethnic Studies, Africana Studies, Philosophy, Anthropology, Modern Culture and Media, and Visual Arts departments, all of which have given her the traditional academic background necessary to create this project—and especially to edit, organize, and arrange the far-ranging narratives which comprise Dear Khloe. We talk about all the things including growing up in a Black and Brown neighborhood, growing up with two cultures, and natural hair for Black women. Join us this October 13 in San Diego and let’s celebrate 8 years of Cafe con Pam Listeners we are back this week with episode 200! What a milestone! Instead of a celebration, Pam comes in to share a part of her story that catapulted her passion for listening to other's stories. It only took 200 episodes for her to feel safe enough to share this story, and by synchronicity, episode 200 landed during April, Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
TRIGGER WARNING: Sexual Assault.
This episode is brought to you by The Washington Office on Latin America Social leaders often face-off with a Colombian government that refuses to admit its failures, and they stand up to armed groups terrorizing their communities. Hundreds of Afro-descendent and Indigenous social leaders have been killed in Colombia for their work advocating for their communities, yet they persist. In a new documentary podcast series, you will hear why directly from four of them. REBUILDING PEACE IN COLOMBIA, created by the Washington Office on Latin America and in partnership with Peabody-nominated Lantigua Williams & Co as part of the digital advocacy campaign CON LÍDERES HAY PAZ. The four-part, bilingual podcast series follows the stories of social leaders in Colombia who, every day, under threat to their lives, search for truth and work toward reconciliation, fight for justice for victims of the Colombian conflict, and ensure the government lives up to the guarantees it made to ethnic and rural communities in the historic 2016 peace accord. Subscribe now to REBUILDING PEACE IN COLOMBIA wherever you get your podcasts. With social leaders, peace in Colombia is possible. They are asking us to support their work and protect their lives. Sign up for related updates, advocacy actions, and the action group guide at conlidereshaypaz.org.
Please understand this episode was shared to empower others to share their stories as long as they feel safe. It is our role as citizens of the world to create safe spaces for survivors and thrivers. The goal of this episode is to create awareness of sexual assault and provide resources like those listed below:

29 Sep 2019 | 125 - Reclaiming Your Pleasure with Ianne Celeste Rivera | 01:06:46
Join us this October 13 in San Diego and let’s celebrate 8 years of Cafe con Pam Listeners, this week we're back with the magical Ianne Celeste Rivera. Ianne is a southern California girl, born and raised, a proud Bruin, devoted Beyonce stan, unabashed makeup lover, and a seeker of the spirit in all. Her whole life she’s lived with curiosity and wonder, fascinated by her own human being-ness. It was this interest that led her to a career as a research scientist. Ianne has dedicated 10+ years to the study of the inner-workings of us! This career has taken her far and wide, across the world and back. Along the way, Ianne was guided to an even deeper study of ourselves; the study of our spiritual nature and the divinity of our sexuality and sensuality. Prompted by the experience of what she calls her spiritual awakening in 2012, she has since been intuitively guided by her eternal mantra and process, "release to receive to give". With this intention in tow, Ianne sought to find a way to combine her science background with the spiritual. It began to unfold as she became a certified Yoga teacher as well as a Reiki practitioner, and Meditation guide. With an M.A. in Psychology in Education, Ianne has gained a mastery of knowledge in eroticism and healing along with her own personal experiential knowledge, all which allow her to support her clients as a holistic pleasure coach, to discover their sacred sexual power and to uncover the divine in their sensuality. During this episode, Ianne and I talked about her experience as a scientist, having tough mentors, putting fear in the back seat, and reclaiming pleasure. Ianne shares with us some practices we can put in place so we can allow ourselves to feel and reclaim our sensuality. Disclaimer: Ianne and I have adult conversations about pleasure and sexuality, so if you have sensitive ears about this topic, please listen to it when you're alone. 13 Mar 2022 | 246 - Decolonize Spirituality and Visibility with Dr. Rocio Rosales Meza | 01:16:18
Join us this October 13 in San Diego and let’s celebrate 8 years of Cafe con Pam Listeners, we're back this week with Dr. Rocio Rosales Meza. Dra. Rocío Rosales Meza, is a Xicana/Mexicana Indigenous women in diaspora. She is a Seer, initiated medicine woman in the Q’ero Inca lineage, & is a Counseling Psychology Ph.D. She is also an unschooling mama to a 5 year old child who holds supernatural gifts. Dra. Rocio walks and works in between the earthly and spiritual realms as a claircognizant, clairvoyant, clairsentient, and clairaudient. She comes from a long line of healers on both her maternal and paternal lineages and was born with psychic, channeling, and mediumship gifts. Dra. Rocio is able to see beyond this ordinary reality to bring forth the highest timelines and visions into our earthly reality. She is grateful to her teachers, Pampamesayoq Don Alejandro Apaza & Mesa Carrier and Medicine Woman Marilu Shinn for helping her remember. Dra. Rocio’s work is at the intersections of decolonizing, spirituality, and wellness. While she has 21 years of experience conducting cultural, social, and psychological research, 18 years of experience as a healer, and 16 years of experience teaching courses in anti-oppressive work and helping skills, she believes that it is her spiritual gifts and ability to cultivate compassion and alchemize as her greatest gifts. She is able to hold potent healing space for others as this is a skill in her blood lineage, with her abuelita and her mother as her greatest teachers. Her work is deeply rooted in Indigenous wisdom, medicine, and worldview and her work has had a global impact to evolve the collective consciousness in understanding the need to decolonize our minds, to reclaim our spiritual sovereignty, and to restore balance to our world. She views decolonization not as a destination, but as a pathway to the New Earth and to remembering our sacred ways. While she does decolonial work, that is only part of her work, she serves as a spiritual guide for all people to recover their whole selves, their spiritual gifts, and to remember that we are all peoples of the Earth. Dra. Rocio’s work weaves decolonial teachings, Indigenous Earth medicine, somatic work, energy work, and shadow work. She offers group guidance, self-paced teachings, weekend intensives and facilitates healing to all peoples that believe a New Earth is possible and feel called to take up their sacred responsibility to co-create it. 19 Dec 2020 | 183 - Owning Your Destiny with Laura Rivas | 00:56:57
Join us this October 13 in San Diego and let’s celebrate 8 years of Cafe con Pam Hello listeners, this week we have a conversation with Laura Rivas. Who would’ve thought a 1980 Pontiac Firebird Trans-Am Bandit would be the reason why Laura's family lives in the U.S. today. Her father came to pick up the Firebird and decided to stay in the land of the free, followed shortly by her mom, her sister, and her a year after. Their first year in America was in her uncle’s living room in the city of Compton. Laura remembers looking out the second-floor living room window on Christmas day and seeing a drunk Santa Claus shooting his gun in the air shouting a cheerful “Merry Christmas Motherf*ckers.” They settled down in the backhouse of Mexican Santeria worshippers for the next fourteen years. On her tenth birthday, Laura's mother bought her a Sony Mini DVD camcorder to capture the two scarlet macaws, five Chihuahuas, four chickens, and a cat that roamed freely in their front yard. From that day forward, she was hooked on capturing the good, the bad, and craziness of life through the lens of a camera and she hasn’t looked back since.

She has an MA in International Conflict Resolution and Mediation from Tel Aviv University where she continued her undergraduate honors research in the modalities of sensory perception, religious experience and intractable conflict. Her other research includes intragroup conflict dynamics and the use of social media in the Arab Spring, which she pursued after living in Cairo in the months leading up to the protests in Tahrir square. Most recently, she advised the first refugee delegation to the UN and the High Ambition Coalition--a coalition of the world's most climate ambitious nations.

05 Mar 2023 | 297 - The Power of Asking with Saskia Sorrosa | 01:02:04
Join us this October 13 in San Diego and let’s celebrate 8 years of Cafe con Pam Listeners, we are back this week with Saskia Sorrosa. Saskia Sorrosa is a proud immigrant, and founder & CEO of Fresh Belies, the first-ever savory kid brand to launch using real ingredients serving “veggies as veggies and fruits as fruits” seasoned with herbs and spices commonly found in Latin American kitchens. Born in Ecuador, Sorrosa moved to the States at seventeen to attend George Washington University. After starting a family, she became hyper aware of the high sugar and high sodium snack choices that permeated grocery shelves. In response to the lack of options and with a desire to raise her children with flavors she grew up enjoying in Ecuador, Saskia created a brand that made healthy eating more authentically flavorful and uniquely delicious: Fresh Bellies. Since 2016 Saskia has grown Fresh Bellies into a national disruptor with Fresh Bellies being ranked among the top 5 natural toddler snacks in the country. Currently the snacks are sold in 5,000 stores throughout the U.S., including retail giants like Target, Sprouts, Walmart and Whole Foods. Fresh Bellies has won Expo East NEXTY Award for Best New Natural Kid’s Product, and Saskia graduated from the Stanford Latino Business Action Network (LBAN) cohort! During her 16-year career in consumer marketing she climbed the ladder of corporate America to become the VP of Marketing in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a proud representation of American immigrants and women and, received several industry accolades for her innovation and leadership, including AdAge’s 40 Under 40 and Hispanic Lifestyle’s “Latina of Influence.” Originally from Guayaquil, Ecuador, Sorrosa currently resides in New York with her husband, Fernando and daughters, Isabella and Alexa Luna. 20 Mar 2020 | 146 - Let's Tap About It: COVID-19 | 00:27:05
Join us this October 13 in San Diego and let’s celebrate 8 years of Cafe con Pam Hello listeners, we are finally back today with a rapidín episode. I come solo to talk about this pandemic we're living in and also to share with you what EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) or also known as Tapping is. During this episode we go over what my thoughts are on the virus and we close with a quick introduction to tapping and a quick tapping round to release stress and bring in joy for the day. To look at the tapping points, you can go to gum.co/pamcircletap and you can also leave a donation for the tapping circles I've hosted during this time. One thing I didn't mention in the episode is that as we tap, you will feel your body release the energy in different ways. You can yawn, burp, sneeze, cough, and/or cry. As we tap along, allow yourself to release, that is your body's way of letting go of that which no longer serves it. You can find the Hawkins Scale of Emotions in this post. ---- Please note that EFT is NOT used to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or psychological disorder. EFT is not a substitute for medical or psychological treatment. By listening to this you assume and accept full responsibility for any and all risks associated with participating in this podcast and using EFT. ---- Follow Cafe con Pam on all things social

04 Sep 2022 | 271 - Estate Planning with Carmen Rosas | 00:58:44
Join us this October 13 in San Diego and let’s celebrate 8 years of Cafe con Pam Listeners, we're back this week with Carmen Rosas. Hoop-wearing, award-winning and stereotype-defying attorney Carmen Rosas is on a mission to help women chase and secure the bag. Drawing on more than 10 years of experience in estate planning, Rosas equips women to protect themselves and their families by protecting their assets. And she’s doing it all in style. A proud mix of Mexican, French, and Italian, Carmen grew up in the Bay Area, fascinated by her grandmother's stories of living in Mexico, arriving in America, and settling in California. Her curiosity of other cultures and the development of languages and communal systems led her to study Anthropology at Santa Clara University. During her sophomore year, she even interned at the Public Defender’s Office-Juvenile Division in Washington D.C. Carmen’s comparison studies of the U.S. legal system and tribal systems in New Zealand, as well as her interest in policy change, led her to law school. Following this inspiration, she grew her legal skills and worked with three prominent Bay Area law firms while also volunteering with the Pro Bono Project of Silicon Valley. Today she is the founder and lead counsel of Carmen Rosas Law where she empowers women to take back control of their money, desires and life. Carmen’s unique approach to estate planning blends personalized, intuitive coaching with trusted legal advice to finally give women, especially Latina women, the chance to be seen and heard by an attorney who looks like them and gets it. Carmen has been featured inThe Huffington Post, Forbes, Be Latina, Create and Cultivate, The Balance, and Modern Latina where she shares her guidance and legal advice with women around the country. When she’s not plotting a new way to help women win, she’s either hiking, gardening, traveling, shopping at local farmer's markets or experiencing new cultures. More than anything, she loves spending her free time with her beautiful daughter.

01 Aug 2021 | 217 - A Mother's Resilience with Lisbeth Garces | 00:56:45
Join us this October 13 in San Diego and let’s celebrate 8 years of Cafe con Pam Listeners, we're back this week with Lisbeth Garces. Since 2007, Lisbeth Garces has sought to provide dance therapy exercise for people with disabilities in memory of her late son, Juan Carlos Garces, who suffered from Muscular Dystrophy. Lisbeth was born in Venezuela, the youngest in a family of seven siblings. At the age of twenty she gave birth to her son Juan Carlos. After five years she received the devastating diagnosis of Muscular Dystrophy. At this point Lisbeth decided to devote all her time and energy to improving her son's quality of life. Lisbeth is not without personal experience in living with people with disabilities. Lisbeth's sister lives with cerebral palsy, her mother suffered with Parkinson's before she passed away and her brother was diagnosed with Parkinson’s at age 60 and passed away at 68 in 2020. Her sister did not receive any medical support or an education, and had no social interaction outside of the immediate family. She witnessed the slow decline in her mother's health while caring for her daughter. Having seen the disturbing way in which people with disabilities live in Venezuela, Lisbeth made a vow to give her son a life full of physical and social activities that would enrich his life. She made the courageous decision to leave her native country and come to the U.S. The totality of Lisbeth's life experiences began to merge after Juan Carlos' death. Returning to her love of dancing and Latin musical roots, Lisbeth became certified as a Zumba® instructor. As a natural trajectory, she began to teach low- income special needs students about the joy that can be achieved through joyful dance therapy exercise. Her repertoire expanded to people living with Down's syndrome, Parkinson's, Autism, Muscular Dystrophy, even people in wheelchairs. She envisioned a program that would provide regular classes for people with disabilities. With drive, inspiration, and a gift for dance, she recruited a Board of Directors to form a new non-profit, Juan Carlos Organization, in May of 2012 www.jcorg.org. Lisbeth learned about the Parkinson’s Network, which certified her to teach physical exercise to people with Parkinson’s. Not ready to stop there, in 2019 Lisbeth received a scholarship from the Mohammed Ali Foundation to learn how to reach out to the nonEnglish speaking Latino community so they could receive help.
