01 Apr 2021 | E17: Self-Care & Cast Iron Pans | 00:19:57
Has anyone told you that you are a cast iron pan? Cause you are What is Nicole talking about! How can you, a human being, be compared to a cast iron pan? Well, there is the foundation, how a cast iron pan is made, what it does with your meat, and the fact that every cast iron pan is unique... and results depends upon how you care for it and YOU. In 3 metaphors Nicole explains why she is a cast iron pan. Number 1: If you don’t use your cast iron pan, it rusts. You have got to use it and you have got to know what you want to use it for. Meaning you can be exactly who you want to be. Nicole wants to be a coach to successful women in tech. Who do you want to be? Number 2: A cast iron pan is “a hunk of work that isn’t worth it” to some and "the best thing ever" to others. Having a cast iron pan is a investment. When are you going to invest in yourself? Number 3: When your cast iron pan (or you) is not performing as usual, what do you do? You try out new things, see what works and what doesn’t. How are you improving and learning?

23 Jun 2021 | E29: Laila Noort: Career Change at 50, from Supporting Others to Build A Service Based Company | 00:34:55
Nicole had this idea, a podcast to share timeless stories, including her own, to be of greater service to others. But where to start and how to go about starting a podcast? She sought help in the form of a podcast manager named Laila and now almost 30 episodes into this adventure together and the end of season 1 in sight it was high time to bring Laila from behind the curtain and in front of the stage to hear her brave story. It turned out to be an emotional (with tears and lots of laughter) retelling of Laila’s journey as an introverted administrative assistant pretending to be an extrovert to be able to survive in the corporate world which ultimately lead to a burnout and a lot of learning about herself. Extensive therapy and reading books about introverts gave Laila the direction and the drive to change her career at the age of 50. Happier than she has ever been she has immersed herself in podcast management, the tech of editing, the supporting of clients and having a blast while doing this. One of the questions Nicole always asks her guests is who their Brave role model is and this time it is not at all a person you expect to be a brave role model.

18 Nov 2021 | E42: Are you Underpaid, Overworked and Un-invested as a Women in Tech? | 00:28:26
Are you a woman in tech who is underpaid, overworked, and un-invested? This episode is for you!. Conversations and presentations during Grace Hopper Celebration 2021 are the inspiration for this episode. Nicole failed to craft this tough-and-flicking-necessary message in writing, so she created this episode. Women in tech are failing each other: we are normalizing bullshit about being underpaid, overworked, and un-invested. And we have to stop, immediately. Nicole outlines how women in tech who are paid well, working within their boundaries, and investing in themselves are the norm - not the common woman in tech who is underpaid, overworked, and un-invested. “Too many women in tech have normalized being underpaid, overworked, underinvested and looking down and backwards rather than up and forwards”. Why you need to step up, not only for you but for all women in tech.

15 Jan 2024 | Identifying the Need for Career Coaching: Personal Stories from 11 Professional Women from Diverse Industries and Roles E142 | 00:31:38
"This episode is specifically designed around answering the question, how did I know it was time to get my career coaching? Hear successful women share their unique answers." - Nicole Trick Steinbach Women must recognize the symptoms that indicate the need for professional development and investment in their career growth goals, so this episode answers the question "How did I know it was time for me to get career coaching?" from 10 different women. I start with a common misconception that career coaching is only for those who are struggling in their careers and how professional men get significantly more professional development investment from their employers than women. Then I dive into why I first chose to get career coaching, as well as why I decided to invest in more career and leadership coaching over the following decade of professional growth. Finally, 11 women from all over the world, from diverse industries, and unique roles share their specific and unique stories that led them to invest time, effort, and money in a career coach. Some of the women are (or have been) my clients. I hope their brave stories resonate with you and inspire you to reflect on your own career needs, goals, and growth to help you know when it is time for career coaching. And when it is not. The biggest thing we can learn from this episode is that investing in career coaching is not a sign of weakness or failure, but rather a proactive step towards personal and professional growth. 29 Jun 2023 | E122: How to Work Less with the Accountability Triangle | 00:35:00
Learn how to work less with the Accountability Triangle by getting clear, focusing on the outcome, setting boundaries, and stop doing other people's jobs In this episode, I show you what accountability really is and how you can transform it to a super power for stressing and working less. You have most likely been taught a form of accountability that focuses on control and drives you towards burnout, especially if you have been socialized as a woman and now work as a woman in leadership, woman in tech, woman in stem, or more. For example:
Sure these statements may sound innocent and simple – maybe even normal – but they really, really aren’t. In fact, these statements, and the mindset behind them, are destined to wear you out, slow down your career growth, limit your goal achievement, and cap your income. This form of accountability is actually not-so-hidden control:
Which is as far away from the true definition of accountability as you can get, almost the exact opposite. Webster’s Dictionary defines accountability as “an obligation or willingness to accept responsibility or to account for one’s actions” (emphasis mine). True accountability is a habit that empowers you and is based on clarity, boundaries, communication, and excellence for YOU. Real accountability is a force that reduces that amount of stress you carry and the amount of extra effort you take on. Real accountability reduces conflicts, matures timelines and scopes, and focuses you on what you can actually control: YOU, your mindset, your actions, and your future. But if the definition is clear and the benefits are many, why (oh why?!) is accountability so misunderstood and misused? In other words, why are you so exhausted, overscheduled, and struggling? Well, the short answer is that if you take on too much governance, control, and delivery, calling it “accountability” other people get to do less themselves. In other words, you do their job. Or maybe their jobs. You do their tasks, their thinking and planning, and, most exhaustingly, their emotional labor. It is exhausting. You are exhausted because it is exhausting. So, how do you change it up, stop doing their job, and create space and time for yourself? I offer you the Accountability Triangle The Accountability Triangle is a framework I use with my clients. They consistently report that the Accountability Triangle helps them make clear choices that reduce their work effort by between one and three hours each week. The Accountability Triangle is rooted in my numerous certifications as well as established research, including:
The Triangle has three elements:

22 Jun 2023 | E121: Career Tip: Stop Making What Other People Do and Say About You | 00:14:22
Particularly in your career, it is very important that you identify that what people say and do is about them, not about you. Are you turning data about other people – who they are, what they do, how they think – into information about you? For example, let's say you share an idea and your boss grabs it and makes it their own, potentially slowing down your career success. Do you make their behavior mean something about you? For example, that you shouldn't share ideas or that you don't deserve to be more visible? If you do, I say this with all my love, please start building the bravery to stop. Because you didn't learn anything about yourself, your career growth, your potential, or your quality of work. You did learn about your boss. Your boss (in this example) is a person who grabs ideas and slaps their name on it. That's it. Now you get to decide what to do with that new information. Instead of spinning, turn the new data into new information with the evaluation framework, the crucial conversation framework, and into your decision framework. Particularly if you are in leadership, tech, or STEM generally, this episode is for you. This week's Celebrate Brave podcast episode is a fiery one. Early listeners already shared it is also “one of the best."

14 Dec 2022 | E92: How You Can Change Who You Are in an Instant-- Trigger Warning | 00:21:44
Trigger Warning: this episode include talk about gun violence, loss, death, and grief. Today on this special episode, I address one of the biggest misunderstandings about changing who you are (self-concept): that it has to take a long time. It doesn't. Even though most people believe that changing who you are *must* take a lot of time, the truth is that it doesn't have to. You can transform in one micro-second. Today I share how a massacre in an elementary school exactly 10 years ago led to an instantaneous transformation in my own self-concept. But you don't need a tragedy. You can allow a moment of clarity, a moment of experience, a moment of embrace, or a moment of release. You can transform a piece of who you are and you can change the entirety of who you are. It can be chosen or it can be spontaneous. And it can all happen in one instant. If this speaks to you, you are ready to be my client, build your brave, and become who you want to be in this world. Because this world needs you. All of you. 29 Jan 2024 | Charting a Brave Career Path with Authenticity: Insights, Examples, and Wisdom from Sarah Charles E144 | 00:46:31
“Authenticity is a privilege. Looking back, younger Sarah did not have the right or the choice to be her most authentic self, not if she wanted to get ahead. It's like you have to play by somebody else's rules to get to a place where then you're in a position to make the rules.” - Sarah Charles Sarah Charles is our guest this week and together we explore the intertwining journey of authenticity and career transformation, highlighting Sarah's shift from a conservative corporate environment to owning a values-driven financial planning firm that empowers women, inspired by both personal evolution and strategic life design. Sarah opens up about her bold journey, sharing potent career advice from the book "Quit" by Annie Duke, and how embracing change is crucial for personal growth. You'll hear about her authentic evolution post-merger and her powerful insights on shedding societal pressures to create a workplace on her terms, where she’s not only succeeding but also helping other women build their financial confidence. I share my personal anecdotes too, drawing parallels to Sarah's experiences and the concept of investing in your "green zone." Together, we explore the nuances of authenticity and the profound impact it can have on both your professional and personal life, especially for women in tech who often face unique challenges. The biggest thing we can learn from this episode is that embracing authenticity and being open to change are both crucial for personal growth and professional success. Through Sarah's journey, we experience the power of self-discovery, the value of seeking guidance, and the importance of aligning one's career with their values, skills, and passions, as depicted by the Japanese concept of "ikigai." 27 Apr 2023 | Mindset Design - How One Rewrite Helps You in Your Career E112 | 00:24:21
In this episode, I challenge a common wisdom about the universe and share my own belief instead. My perspective may help you shift how you look at events out of your control in a way that helps you build your brave, grow your career, and hit your life goals. You may be like me and have heard “the universe is challenging me” to explain experiences in life. I don’t think this is helpful. In fact, I see that belief lead to exhaustion, overworking, over-producing, and over-serving in myself and others.
This is an example of mindset design. Make sure you register for my upcoming masterclass. Link below.

She sums up her experience with a Brene Brown quote: “belong to yourself first.” First, she lost her voice (for real) due to stress, experienced her first panic attack, developed insomnia, kept getting sick with aches and fevers, and finally began having significant nerve pains. Finally, she realized she would rather be sick than return to work for her mental health.

06 Nov 2023 | Discovering Your No: A Simple Exercise to Uncover What's Not Serving You Anymore E132 | 00:17:30
“If right now you're feeling frustrated, you're feeling stressed, overwhelmed, perhaps angry, you feel resentment because you are thinking about work all the time, or you're working way beyond what you agreed. This exercise will help.'" — Nicole Trick Steinbach Welcome to No-vember with the Celebrate Brave Podcast! This month, we're diving deep into the power of saying no and setting boundaries to help you thrive. Today, I have a special exercise for you to identify your own no's, and in the coming weeks, we'll have inspiring guests sharing their own approaches and suggestions on harnessing the power of no. If you've been feeling frustrated, stressed, overwhelmed, or resentful in your life or career, it's time to pause, take a breath, and evaluate what's not serving you anymore. This is where our Build Your Brave framework is the tool to guide you: clarity, momentum, and accountability. To start, imagine a room that represents your life, filled with objects symbolizing your career, relationships, hobbies, and more. Reflect on what stands out to you, and what's overwhelming or missing. Use this exercise to help you identify what you don't want anymore, giving you the clarity to make decisions and create positive changes in your life. To help deepen your experience, I share three real-life examples from my clients who did this exercise, identified and embraced their no's so that they could transform their careers. Remember, Brave Ones, by saying no, you're saying yes to a life of authenticity, fulfillment, and joy. Hot topics from this episode:

30 Oct 2023 | The Next Level: Making the Career Shift from Senior to Director, Principle, and Executive Levels E131 | 00:15:38
"The wall into those leadership roles is not actually a wall. It's a one-sided door... You need to have those people on the other side who can grab that handle, push it down, and pull that door open for you, which is perception." — Nicole Trick Steinbach In this episode of the Celebrate Brave Podcast, I dive into the career shift from a senior functional role to a leadership position. Whether you're already at the senior level and want to step into leadership, just starting out and aiming for executive roles, or are already in a leadership position and want to help others make the transition, this episode is for you. It can be disheartening and confusing, so this episode walks you through how you can close the gap through bravery. It takes bravery to dive into the unknown and create a life and career that truly fulfills you. The greater the gaps, the more we grow and develop our skills of courage and resilience. I share a client example of how you can embrace the Yes-No Spiral, build the skill of bravery, and grow your career with the Build Your Brave framework. 12 May 2024 | Networking for Career Growth with Interest Interviews - Human Connection is the Long Game E159 | 00:20:58
“Your functional skills are important, but they won't create career growth. Career growth is created via your network. The more time you spend networking, the more your career will grow.” Nicole Trick Steinbach Human connection, also called networking, is the most important strategic approach to career growth, so this episode covers the foundations for networking: mindset, approach, and implementation details. Most importantly, if you feel scammy while networking, you are doing it wrong. Instead, connect with curiosity and interest as a human, to another human. In short: stop being weird and start being connected. I share some common misconceptions and challenges I hear frequently about networking and how to resolve each of them. Then I offer a step-by-step process to empower you to navigate networking for career growth with authenticity and genuine curiosity, paving the way for sustained career growth. Networking, done right, will cultivate a robust and authentic network, underscoring the transformative impact of human-to-human connections in shaping successful and fulfilling career paths. And that is brave. Hot topics from this episode:

14 Jul 2024 | Return from Burn-Out & Embrace Your Innate Talent to Grow Your Career with Caroline Santinelli (Client Rerun) E168 | 00:51:00
During the summer of 2024, I am re-running the most popular client conversations based on downloads, shares, and direct feedback. Make sure to catch a career update at the end of each episode. Caroline Santinelli, a former teacher and now woman in tech, shares her brave career story of – as Brene Brown says – choosing to ‘belong to herself first.’ Caroline’s story includes moving from burnout-driven medical leave as a teacher, to embracing her innate strengths, choosing her health, and allowing her brave career to move through different phases. At the start of her career transformation, Caroline lost her voice (for real) due to stress, experienced her first panic attack, developed insomnia, kept getting sick with aches and fevers, and finally began having significant nerve pains. Caroline shares how she chose messy, deeply personal work of building her brave, searching out support from professionals. Her first significant step was giving herself permission to take medical leave. Then, over many weeks, she slowly gave herself permission to belong to herself and choose her innate talents. The next big step was allowing others to be disappointed. If you’re ready to learn how to belong to yourself, embrace your innate talents, and break free of the rules and judgments holding you back, this is your episode. Hot topics from this episode:
