05 Oct 2023 | Sustainability Or Not? Manning and Schooler Discuss | 00:32:33
A must from Manning & Schooler: much about the unholy alliance of resources, sustainability, climate hysteria and profits. How about the perversion of both sustainability of resources and profit-making, the reason d’etre of business, in the intellectually bankrupt pursuit of climate hysteria?
Let us be clear: without profits, continuity in business is not possible. And, corporate altruism does not exist. And much about how the relevance, and abundance or lack of resources have taken a back seat to ownership and control of those.
In this podcast Nat Schooler was joined by Steven J. Manning — a noted business leader, advisor, author, speaker, broadcaster. A founder, CEO, Principal and Board Member of enterprises in the US and Europe. He writes and speaks on success, advertising, marketing, conflict resolution, writing, leadership, politics, social constructs, history and more. His professional and personal relationships include captains of industry, world-renown educators, authors, thought-leaders, sports personalities.

21 Sep 2024 | The Power of Saying No: Say Yes to Success | 00:42:04
The Power of Saying No: Unlocking Success Through Selective Opportunities Mastering the Art of Saying No. In today's fast-paced world, where opportunities seem to present themselves at every turn, the ability to say "no" can be a powerful tool for achieving success. Steven J. Manning, a seasoned entrepreneur with over 47 Billion of commerce under his belt and marketing expert, shares his insights on the importance of being selective and the benefits of saying no to the right opportunities. The Perils of Being a "Soft Touch" Manning acknowledges that he has often been chastised by his wife for being a "soft touch" - someone who finds it difficult to turn down requests from others. This tendency can lead to taking on projects or commitments that may not align with one's goals or provide meaningful value. As Manning explains, "people can take me as a bit of a soft touch. So they ask me to do things that perhaps benefit them more than they benefit me." The Power of Saying No Manning emphasizes that the ability to say no is a crucial skill for success. He believes that the most important word in business language is not "free" or "yes," but rather, "no." Saying no allows individuals to focus on the opportunities that truly align with their vision and priorities, rather than getting sidetracked by requests that may not contribute to their long-term goals. Tune in to learn more about this crucial topic! Shownotes can be found here: https://legacymediahub.com/144-the-power-of-saying-no-say-yes-to-success/

11 Aug 2023 | Bani VS Vuca VS Tuna VS Rupt And A Partridge In Pear Tree! | 00:26:22
This week, we have a special guest, Steven J. Manning, who is an expert in strategic foresight and scenario planning. He joins me to discuss the various acronyms that are used to describe the uncertain and complex future we are facing, such as VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity), BANI (Brittle, Anxious, Non-linear and Incomprehensible), RUPT (Rapid, Unpredictable, Paradoxical and Tangled) and TUNA (Turbulent, Uncertain, Novel and Ambiguous). They explore the origins, meanings and implications of these terms, and how they can help us or hinder us in making sense of the world. We also challenge the idea that these acronyms are just word salads that obscure rather than clarify our understanding of reality. Tune in to this fascinating conversation and learn how to navigate the future with more confidence and clarity.

19 Jul 2024 | Failure is Not an Option: Essential Strategies for Unstoppable Success | 00:29:26
This week was a wild ride – internet outages, jujitsu injuries, the whole nine yards. Steven J. Manning talks about failure not being an option and about turning challenges into wins? His advice was golden this week! First, the internet went out three times in two weeks! Construction took the blame initially, but the third one...well, let's just say I might have been the culprit (details coming!). But here's the thing, even with a sore eye from a wayward knee at jujitsu (ouch!), I wasn't giving up. Washing the car with sunglasses on became a funny adventure, and my determination only grew. This week was a test, for sure, but one that led to some unexpected victories and valuable lessons. Stick around to hear how I tackled the internet myself, even with blurry vision, and the cool new skill I learned in the process. Get ready for some laughs, some learnings, and a whole lot of triumph over setbacks. Let's do this! Get Steven J. Manning's new book here. You can also get it on Audible here.

Resilience is one of the most important skills to learn and in this episode Nelly Shein and Nathaniel Schooler discuss the ins and outs. "If only I had known why resilience is important I may have taken the time to learn more about it before. It is in fact such an important topic in business leadership and in life that I would recommend everyone study it and try to at least embrace the qualities of resilient people. They will prepare themselves for tough times." Nelly Shein “Psychological resilience is the ability to mentally or emotionally cope with a crisis or to return to pre-crisis status quickly. Resilience exists when the person uses “mental processes and behaviors in promoting personal assets and protecting self from the potential negative effects of stressors” – Visit the webpage for the full transcription and short article: https://legacymediahub.com/why-resilience-is-important/

Scaling Up Your Business: Essential Tips from a Seasoned Entrepreneur Identifying Market Needs and Creating Demand As an experienced entrepreneur who has grown a business from $1 million to $1 billion in revenue, Steven J. Manning shares his insights on the essential tips for rapid business expansion. He emphasizes that the key lies in identifying specific needs in the market and either fulfilling them or creating new ones. "The opportunities lay in identifying specific needs that you can fulfil either as a primary or secondary. By that, I mean, you're the first one or you need to, or you actually create a need." Manning cites the example of the "pet rock" craze, where a friend of his created a product and a need around it through clever marketing and copywriting. This illustrates how an entrepreneur can succeed by understanding the market and crafting the right message to capture attention and demand. Steven is grateful for the great early reviews of his book, THE BUSINESS OF LIFE. Taking a wrecking ball to conventions and norms, in search for independent thought. 20 Dec 2018 | Ted Rubin on Lessons From Seth Godin and Return on Relationship | 00:42:48
Return on relationship Ted Rubin has been involved with digital media since 1997 when he joined a company founded by Seth Godin called Yoyodyne. Return on relationship is a term that Ted and I discuss. He didn’t know who Seth was until he joined. Back then most people didn’t know who Seth was, he had made a name for himself as a product manager for Atari. The past seven years have seen new media grow into a force and these days more than ever before we all have a voice. Then we begin to get return on relationship! It takes commitment and time to build your brand, overnight success often takes several years. Usually it takes time to build up your audience and getting return on relationship is not immediate usually. Ted worked with Yahoo in the early days after they acquired Yoyodyne and it really helped Ted to build his knowledge and connections and brand.
21 Dec 2018 | Building Communities from the Ground Up with Tim McDonald (Ex Huff-Post) | 00:36:42
Building communities (Huff Post Secrets!) This was a super exciting interview on building communities (real-world stories) with Tim McDonald (Former Director of Community at the Huffington Post). He set strategy and oversaw a team of moderators, with over 300 million comments and 70,000 bloggers! We discussed building communities using social media and to build that so it impacts the real world and not just the virtual world. Tim and I explain the successes that we have had on social media, I explained how I got the largest chain of bars and restaurants in the UK to buy beer from me when I used social media to connect with the buyer of the bar. Here Tim explains how he built face to face networking events and used social media to do that, from what he says in this interview you could go ahead and build a huge community online or offline or in fact both. So don’t get caught up with the wrong attitude and be yourself. People thought he did it on his own, but in fact, he was the person who helped the others to make contact with each other. So building communities became an easy thing for Tim to do. We also discussed how to engage with people in the real world at networking events and what to do and not to do. Building communities and Tim's real-world stories is what this interview covered and some amazing success stories from Tim. I also explain about setting expectations on social media when you meet them and how to get your community to work with you and for you to spread the words to inform the world about what you do, why you do it and why you are different and or better than anyone else. Taking the time to create the right words for people to use to spread your message pays dividends, getting others to do your job for you as a community builder, if you build a healthy community without you being the centre of attention it will go on long after you have left or gone on holiday. I discussed Richard White’s analogy of feeding others with a huge pair of chopsticks. Take the time to listen to this interview as it is extremely powerful! If you want it is about what the community wants, we need to think about what we have that they want, they usually want to have a sense of belonging! Please like and share and review on Apple Podcasts and All Major platforms. Recently Gunilla has been asked about where to begin building business acumen and business skills and she said it boils down to the skills and the courage that you need and it is imperative you find the qualifications and the acumen. If you don’t have the courage and the skills then it will be much harder to create success and building business acumen is crucial! In Silicon valley they do not look at failure in the same way, they understand that without failure there is no success; much like when we were children learning how to walk! 04 Jan 2019 | How to Accelerate The Success of Your Brand Like Rolls-Royce with Peter Lavers | 00:24:35
Successful Brand Ex Rolls-Royce - Peter Lavers shared some amazing information with me on the legacy of Rolls-Royce and how to build a successful brand, he went to work there straight from school 35 years ago so shared some great insights with me. One of the things that still inspires Peter was the statement “Whatsoever is rightly done, however humble, is noble” which he heard from Henry Royce. Even when things don’t go too well in business and life you must stick to this principle. Especially in the customer service world when focusing on the figures. “Short-termism” financially motivated behaviours can damage long term business success. Keeping on doing the right thing is vitally important for all of us going through our careers. If you keep on doing the right things then people will respect this noble behaviour. When times to improve people will come back to you and if you don’t compromise as they will remember how you behaved. Keeping your authenticity, however humble, is the right thing to do. A couple of Henry Royce quotes include: “Strive for perfection in everything you do!” “Take the best and make it better and if it doesn’t exist then design it” Improving quality as much as you can is certainly important for Rolls-Royce and Peter discovered their insistence on quality first-hand during the years he spent working with them. Many auto-industry leaders are saying that things are different and will change more in the next 10 years than they have in the last 100. Attention spans are at an all-time low and customer loyalty is not easy to hang on to. These are a couple of reasons why it is so important to keep the customer experience excellent and consistently high quality. Very interesting for Peter coming from his roots and it is crucial that he keeps learning continually and much like me building business acumen. Henry Royce said the quality will be remembered long after the price is remembered and much like what we do the quality of advice that we offer will linger long after we have moved on to another client. According to Peter the best consultants engineer themselves out of jobs as quickly as possible. You could say it is expensive to hire you or me, but the ethos we have means that we always leave companies in a better position than when they started, so it would be money well spent. The best customer centred businesses have recognised that if you want good outcomes you need to manage your business for those outcomes, optimise your customer experience, delight your profitable customers, manage your borderline customers and of course delight them all at different parts of their journey. 05 Jan 2019 | Revenue Blindspots with Bryan Eisenberg | 00:33:12
Revenue Blindspots In this episode we discussed revenue blindspots and what they really could mean to your business. According to Bryan:- “Anywhere from 20-60% of the revenue is being left on the table!” Bryan calls these revenue blindspots and Bryan explains a lot of different problems businesses have and the biased view of the world that some business leaders have and has worked to help businesses for over two decades to understand what they are leaving on the table. They have helped companies and in some cases just from one small change to improve the bottom line by 5% after spotting their revenue blindspot. Daily deaths by a thousand cuts have caused a lot of businesses to fold and these little revenue blindspots have in some cases caused the loss of lots of jobs. The persuasive momentum framework that Buyer legends use is designed to seek out their revenue blindspots and help them to fix them. He explains about the persuasive momentum framework that he uses in his business. It has two main functions :- Reduce friction in the customer experience Increase motivation Friction can be internal or external, Bryan discusses Amazon and Walmart and the struggles they have in building a digital DNA. We discuss these “friction” points within physical retail and innovation and why Amazon have innovated so fast and the reason they have succeeded, they take data to be truly “customer centric.” Amazon Prime became so successful when the iPhone was launched, serving the customer what they need when they needed it. We spend time shopping when we are taking breaks or are running away from our other halves and use our phones in the toilet. Bryan tells me about why your bathroom stinks haha…he explains about Febreeze and why it was successful. Finding the real source of friction and eliminating it is the advantage, gaining you momentum and naturally spotting the revenue blindspot is key. If we go back to Steve Jobs and the launch of the iPhone and how all the new apps were launched to increase the motivation to get an iPhone. Now everything we see that Apple does is an incremental improvement, the key is to have a system where you are both reducing friction and increasing motivation. Customer led innovation and great operations and continuously improving those operations, like an octopus with loads of teams improving the business. Companies think they are customer-centric but in order for them to be really competing with Amazon they need to be like them. Bryan and I think so alike and we both agreed that not a lot has really changed in business, except that there is more data, faster analysis of data and decisions can be made faster based upon the data. Business principles are the same. The customer always wants products to be delivered faster and want them cheaper. Customer expectations have changed and Bryan explains that he was in a Jewellery store and how the company try to respond within 24 hours, so Bryan’s brother orders delivery within an hour and he mentions this in the meeting about this and how they can expect to succeed if these things are now possible. People expect more and with a smile, great product and fast, if you can produce this and build a great experience then you are going to hang on to those customers, you will hang on to them. But remembering customers are fickle they are like cats and not loyal like dogs. If you want to reach Bryan then visit Buyer Legends Or his personal website Bryan Eisenberg Here Thanks for listening and please make sure you subscribe, share and review this podcast.
08 Jan 2019 | Featured: How to Add 24K Magic to Your Brand With Laban Roomes Goldgenie | 00:11:08
Laban Roomes: Goldgenie Global A pleasure to have Laban on this podcast! I spotted him on television doing an interview about being an entrepreneur and remembered when he was on Dragons Den in 2007, James Caan invested in his business. Goldgenie is a British company which provides gold-plating and other decoration for mobile phones and other objects.[1] In 2007 it appeared on the appeared on the Dragons' Den television programme, and received an investment from James Caan.[2] In 2009 it decorated iPod nanos with lead crystal to be sold in aid of the Elton John AIDS Foundation.[3] In 2014, it marketed a 24-carat gold-plated bicycle at $390,000; a version with embedded diamonds was also available for $470,000.[4] Laban Roomes runs Goldgenie global, and they specialise in customising everyday items with gold-plating, things like Lexus, Bentley, Rolls-Royce car emblems. Goldgenie also offers a range of customised iPhones, Blackberries, Samsung, HTC, tablets, and other luxury gift items like preserved roses. They are pioneers of what they do, he started by developing a prototype in the early days and plating items using 24K gold.
ld a story when a child and Aesop’s fable, the story of the fox and the lion, he took the time to align himself with Rolls-Royce and Bentley and this helped him to grow. By aligning with well-established luxury brands Laban Roomes: Goldgenie was able to borrow their credibility to make the Goldgenie brand more credible. Celebrity Association Enhances The Credibility of Your Brand Goldgenie aligned with celebrities and they were photographed with their items in the celebrities hands and with credible people, people are quite fickle, if it is good enough for David Beckham it is good enough for me is the attitude of most people. Celebrity endorsement is massive for building your brand and the authenticity of your business comes through in what you do. Laban Roomes: Goldgenie “My character and passion for the brand has made the brand what it is today and there is always an intrinsic energy and leadership skills does he have and I like to think Goldgenie is a product of that.” We also discussed our course and how giving back is part of our ethos, part of his company is called bling with benefits. and he designed a range of iPods for Elton John’s charity and with other charities with iPods signed by Frank Lampard. "There is an unseen law that when you give there is a blessing that rains down on you especially when you give from the heart." "It is not luck when we succeed at work, this is the key takeaway, it is about hard work, vision, trying your best, with passion and determination, leading you to become lucky or blessed. All in 6 weeks his life fell to pieces, he lost his Father, lost his job by being made redundant and then his girlfriend left him and he developed Leukemia! He decided to go on a 14th Century pilgrimage to Canterbury and to think. After writing to the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Pope for permission to shelter in the Churches along the way and receiving a yes naturally he set off. The main reason was to get back in touch with what he wanted out of life. He encountered many homeless people on his three-week journey to Canterbury. In addition many of the local Churches and other charities have got together to help people in the Chichester area, in particular St. Pancras Church has been doing a lot in this area with a local Church partnership and I will be finding out more soon about that and will update this article with the information. St Pancras have been helping homeless people by raising a considerable amount of money and they provide assistance with food, shelter, exercise classes and emotional support within the City of Chichester. Fortunately now many vendor negotiation has become Win / Win scenarios, enabling both you the purchaser and the seller to make a strong long term working relationship. Trust takes many years to build and thankfully there are many ethical companies out there and many ethically driven procurement professionals driving the right kind of vendor negotiation. 09 Dec 2018 | The Future of the High Street with Retail Expert Eddie McAtominey | 00:45:10
The future of the high street Eddie McAtominey and I discuss the future of the high street. An old client of mine from when I first started working for myself! I get his last name wrong and we have a good giggle about it at the beginning. Eddie is experienced in retail design, environments, entrepreneurship and as a creative director in his own right, when I first worked into marketing I learnt huge amounts from him and his team. He started off in retail design, with a company called Fitch who is now part of WPP, Eddie designed Ed's easy diner, but he has also designed a lot of bars, running his own businesses, his skillset was environments. As he developed his business he employed lots of different types of designers, architects and his responsibility over the years was to deliver all the creative, from shop design all the way through into designing the promotional material and in fact psychology of shopping and where you place items on the shelves etc. Quite a bit of science has been involved, knowledge around all areas to make sure the projects were delivered. Eddie has done a lot of identities and recently he has done a lot of network rail identities including the Leak street arches, the graffiti arches under Waterloo.
