28 Nov 2021318. Jamie Madrox (Twiztid) Returns01:20:04

Jamie joins us as we run through a gamut of topics from his tireless work ethic and growing his own empire within Twiztid AND their label MNE.

We also touch on the early days of Colombia House and if it was actually a pyramid scheme or not, as well as maybe a way to bring something similar to expose people to new music.

We also talk about taking risks and knowing when to bet on yourself, growth as people and put over a close friend of ours. Definitely a fun inspiring chat.

13 Feb 2022328. Nicky Calonne (Nekrogoblikon) Returns01:33:39

This was a fun chat with Nicky from Nekrogoblikon where we talked about a fun melody that's on their latest album, and what happened to bands using more movie samples and doing 7" splits.

We also get into the success of the band since we last talked, what it was like to hear their band mentioned by Post Malone on the Joe Rogan Podcast, and what a possible collab with Posty would sound like. We also discuss Nicky's work ethic in creating music, where one of the weirdest sources of inspiration struck for a song, finding balance in your life between meeting deadlines and creating art as a whole.

06 Nov 2023423. Telle Smith (The Word Alive)01:18:22

Join Telle and I as we dive into the bands latest album, Hard Reset, and what the album title means to each of us. We talk about intentions, how the band were intentional in their approach to the making of this album and everything that went into it.

We also get into navigating various relationships and understanding that not everyone of them will be equal, knowing when to give more or less of yourself, and ultimately that these don't negate any of the relationships themselves.

Telle shares his experiences with streaming on Twitch, opportunities it has led to, and we both share our experiences with having to go through speech classes and more in this chat with The Word Alive frontman.

17 Jan 2022324. Michael Barr (Volumes) Returns 01:22:19

Michael is one of my favorite guests I've had on for our ability to hit it off so quickly and have a great conversation about life and music, this one was no different.

Join us as we discuss what the future holds for musicians and the music industry If another shut down were to happen.  How some of our mutual friends are killing it in other avenues outside of the music business, but have taken what they've learned from the road and applied it to their new endeavors.

We also get into artists that we think are moving the rock/metal genre to the mainstream and what it could do for other artists. Starting over and being honest with yourself where you are at in life and finding peace in that and much more.

11 Mar 2022330.5 Vandestreek Brewing / No Save Point Beer00:41:08

So I've been sitting on this chat I did about a year or so ago with one of the owners and head brewer of Vandestreek Brewing out of the Netherlands about their involvement with Run The Jewels  "No Save Point" Hazy IPA, and how they came up with what became their final version of the No Save Point beer from the. base they were given to work from.

I explain in the intro about how the idea of putting together a documentary about the No Save Point beer world tour came about, how far we got in the process and what ultimately lead to this project dying on the vine and more.

Enjoy this quick chat, and maybe have this be a reminder to chase whatever ideas/dreams you've been thinking about doing.

05 May 2024446. Miles Zuniga (Fastball)01:42:45

Join Miles and I as we talk about Fastball's decades long career, even getting into a bit of guitar talk as I have Miles share the story of recording their song "The Way" and the diverse guitar tones on it.

Miles shares how it has been seeing the change in his home of Austin, TX over the last few years, and how it was when the band was coming up in the scene.

Miles also talks about having one of their songs used as a hook for a Machine Gun Kelley song, and how quickly that came about, as well as talking about the bands future with new music on the horizon and more in this chat with the Fastball guitarist.

Vicky Psarakis, vocalist of The Agonist, is the guest on this episode of BREWtally Speaking Podcast.

Vicky joins me as we discuss a lyric on the bands upcoming ep, Days Before the World Wept, that gets us on a tangent about time and mortality and when we as people notice a shift in perspectives about our own lives and taking ownership of our lives versus life happening to us.

We also talk about the Twitch community and how it's more inclusive and inviting of the various sub genres versus the metal/rock communities themselves at times being the opposite. We also get into some harder hitting questions like who the best actor was that played Batman and more.

25 Sep 2022365. Andrew Herman (Johnny Booth) 01:42:30
Join Andrew and I as we start our conversation about how he has started bringing various vocal items on the road with him to ensure he doesn't lose his voice, which leads to us talking about when something goes from a hobby to to being something you're more dedicated to and invest more time and money into. We also touch on how the band is pretty in house when it comes to a lot of what you see from the band, from graphic design, editing and so forth and if that's intentional to not have this message altered in any way or if it's out of necessity, and if the guys have thought about making Johnny Booth more of a one stop shop to help other band with album art, editing videos, putting out music etc? Andrew and I talk about Long Island, and the love/hate relationship most have with the city, growing up in the hardcore scene, finding acceptance in music and in life, doing things for yourself and much more in this conversation with the Johnny Booth frontman. Join me as I catch up with Tom and what he’s been up to since the last time he was on the podcast a few years ago. We talk about how his move out to CA didn’t pan out the way he had wanted to, how he had to hit rock bottom before being able to turn his life around, getting sober, and moving back home to FL and finding happiness in making music again. We also talk about our mutual experiences with going to therapy, learning to admit your own faults in things that happen to you in life. We also look back on 13 years with our spouses, share in things we think have led to the longevity in each of our marriages, as well as discuss getting older and the concept of “retirement” and if it’s something that is a reality for us. Tom talks about his new band, sounds like color, and how that came about. Our mutual love of language, song writing and what the plans are for this project moving forward and more in this great chat with Tom. How in that time Justin went within and decided to work on some songs that he had sitting on a hard drive and would wind up becoming Lybica with some close friends and how it was to find his "voice" with a new instrument, and what it was like playing the first few shows being up front on stage versus being tucked in back with KSE.

We also touch on Jasta talking about a reunited Blood Has Been Shed for his recently acquired Milwaukee Metal Fest, playing last years Furnace Fest and older bands reuniting and more.

Join Maria and I as we talk about the bands latest album Run, and what it was like to put out the bands first album and not be able to tour behind it due to the pandemic, and how the band went about writing Run since they didn't really have any of the traditional ways of playing out and seeing how their first album resonated with fans and growing from that. We also touch on how hard it is to choose a set list when you have 2 albums worth of material that's never been played out when you have a shorter set time.

Maria and I then get into an interesting discussion about the differences in our respective countries ranging from the perception of what our countries are like versus how they really are, Maria having siblings that live here in the states, and how the rampant homelessness in OR really shocked her.

We touch on spirituality, religion, art, therapy and SO MUCH more in this really fun chat.  Enjoy!

12 Jan 2025481. Haste The Day 02:24:32

Join Dave, Scott and Stephen and I as we catch up with the latest going ons in the Haste The Day world. We talk about the bands latest single, Burn, and resigning with Solid State, and how all of that came to be as well as what the guys are looking for at this stage in their careers.

We get a bit heavy and talk about the ending of the band and subsequent reformations over the years. What it was like to deal with the back and forth nature of having the band be in and out of their lives. The guys open up about the struggles of being labeled a "Christian band" and the hardships they faced having to live up to others perceptions of who and what they were supposed to be.

We look back on "Attack of the Wolf King", hear some funny memories recording "Meet Me Half Way" and how it was dealing with that record not performing well then versus how the perception of that record has changed in the decade since its release.

Join Justin and I as we.....well honestly I spend a lot of this quick chat gushing over the bands latest album, The Program.

Justin talks about the song writing process for the band, how he approaches writing lyrics that REALLY line up with what the band is doing musically.

Justin shares his journey as a musician, from getting into the business as a kid and "throwing away" his opportunity at stardom to pursue a style of music he was more passionate about. How that success feels knowing it's earned versus bought or manufactured.

We get into some genres of music Justin would like to potentially tap into in the future and more in this quick chat with the BRKN LOVE guitarist and front man.

Join Fabio and I as we talk about TrollfesT entering the Eurovision contest, and how the movie was actually more accurate in the portrayal of the contest than I had originally thought. We discuss how the show was able to help get the band to another level with promotion and exposure, and how different it is for metal and hard rock to be more accepted one mainstream media like that overseas versus here in the states. We then crack open some beers and Grimdrap reveals how he has been home brewing beer, which leads us to talking about our own experiences with that, and the patience it has taught us. We also touch on being in a band with 7 other people, if managing those relationships has traversed into Fabio's daily life, and finding your role within various social dynamics. Join Alex and I as we chat before he literally has to finish packing and catch a plane for Despised Icon's European Tour. We talk about aging technology and how a lot of times there's nothing really wrong with the old thing, we just tend to move on. That led way to discussing how bands now a days have the tools and resources to learn how to be better musicians than Alex and others of our age had to figure it out through trial and error.

We talk about the beginnings of the Deathcore genre, how the Despised Icon guys were one of the first to start using the term, and printing it on merch, but not THE first to coin the phrase, and how it was trying to get on tours when you're not really shown love in either of the scenes you're putting together for not being enough of one or the other.

We also talk about Alex's transition in life to working in the hospitality field and how he's found success doing that and much more in this chat with the Despised Icon frontman.

23 Jan 2022325. Will Putney (Fit For An Autopsy / END) Returns01:13:32

Will Putney, guitarist for Fit For An Autopsy and END, joins me to talk a bit about the bands new album and how cinematic the whole thing feels and if scoring films is in the cards for Will in the near future?

We also talk about Will's producing career, and how he's able to work with so many bands who are constantly pushing the boundaries of a somewhat confining scene. The relationship he has with his bands to create these albums, and how he's quickly become one of the IT producers who's putting their stamp on the hardcore/metal genre with the likes of Ross Robinson or Terry Date etc.

We wrap up with some Body Count / Ice T talk, working with someone so legendary, the wisdom Ice has shared with Will and how he applies it to his life and much more.

We also talk about Ken getting ready to be a first time dad, how that journey has been for him as he's transitioning from one facet of his life to another.

16 Mar 2023393. Adam "Shmeeans" Smirnoff (Lettuce) 00:36:54

Join Adam "Shmeeans" Smirnoff, guitarist for legendary funk band Lettuce as we catch up for a quick chat on the first day of the bands tour.   We talk about the bus problems the band experienced over night, and which thankfully weren't too serious to cause any issues.

We start off talking about street teams after I saw one of the bands fans talking about it online, and what street teams have become now.   Adam shares his thoughts on the beauty of me going to old house parties and seeing random musicians/bands jamming and how cool it is to see those moments, if anyone had recorded them, years and years later to see how a band and theirs songs have changed over the years.

We get into a bit of the growth we experience by stepping out of our comfort zones, and Adam looking back on 30 years of playing with Lettuce and more in this quick chat.

Join Jeremy and I as we catch up with each other from the last time Jeremy was on the podcast almost 6 years ago. We get into what has changed with the band, and more specifically Jeremy in that time. From being just signed to Solid State Records and looking forward to touring more full time, to now where the band has release a full length and a new EP, and what lies ahead for the band. We discuss coming to the realization that something might be reaching its end, or at the very least that you've taken it as far as it can go, finding happiness in the journey while still being motivated to create something new. We also get into Jeremy's experience during the pandemic, which saw both of his career paths come to quick halt. How made him start doing vocal covers to showcase his influences as well as his producing talents. Getting more into Tik Tok and the growth he's seen from doing that. We also get into if Jeremy ever sees himself moving away from South Dakota, the pros and cons to living somewhere remote and we tackle the biggest question.....will he ever shave the mustache and how it's become such an identifying part of the band itself and more. 28 Aug 2022355. Andrew Wells (Eidola / Dance Gavin Dance) 01:56:17

Join Andrew, who has quickly become one of my best friends I've made through booking shows and doing this podcast, and I as we catch up from the last time Andrew and I talked.

We get into the new Eidola record Andrew is writing and recording currently, and what fans can expect from this record. Andrew opens up a bit about how the fans support of The Architect gave him inspiration to do another Eidola record, as that was poised to be the bands last.

We talk about me getting off Facebook and how that adjustment has been to my social life, and things we've noticed by integrating with people in person and if there will be more of a shift to people getting away from social media or diving further down the rabbit hole.

Andrew and I talk about shared grief of losing close friends and family over the last few years, how it was for DGD to play Swanfest without Tim and ultimately what the bands first tour was like going through the cathartic experience of grieving the loss of a brother while also getting the healing that everyone needed while playing for all the bands fans each night and a whole lot more in this conversation with a great friend. Enjoy!

Phil Labonte, vocalist of All That Remains, returns as a guest on this episode of the BREWtally Speaking Podcast!!  \\

Phil returns to wax nostalgic about 15 years of their album, The Fall of Ideals.  Although it deviates into us talking about video games, issues we have with some of our favorite games, and talking about Internet culture and the impact it's had on our lives.

We do eventually get onto talking about The Fall of Ideals and what it was like recording that record with Adam D, and the hilarity that comes from him producing your album.  The impact of songs like This Calling, the lineup changes before recording, and the impact of songs like Six being on Guitar Hero.

We also talk a bit about the old hardcore scenes, the geographical differences between each and first impressions of seeing the West Coast bands for the first time and more.

Taking the time to hone your craft, and making these kinds of things accessible to others who want to learn how to become a producer.

Eyal and I discuss if there's every been a consideration into expanding into other genres of music, the process it takes to land all of these guests/bands/songs, as well as becoming an ancillary avenue for people to find out about new bands. Eyal shares the balance of showcasing new and up coming bands and established ones that will keep people interested.

We also touch on the gatekeeping way of metal fans, how that's found it's way at times into the nail the mix crowd with some of the bands they've featured. If there are any bucket list bands he'd love to feature in the future and much more in this chat.

Dino talks about growing top the youngest of 7 siblings and how the diversity of musical influences helped shape the musician he is today. We wax nostalgic on 20 years of Road Runner United, and how he was the guinea pig for that project. 11 Jul 2023406. Evan Diprima (Royal Thunder) 02:14:53

Enjoy this long chat with Evan and I as we talk about the buzz surrounding the bands latest album, Rebuilding The Mountain, if he or his bandmates are aware of these types of things when they are happening.

We also talk about if the bands singer doing some of the Two Minutes To Late Night covers during the pandemic really helped raise the bands profile, and we talked about compilations/cover songs from our youth and how people find new music now.

We dip into Evan teaching drums, and how it is to be responsible for putting someone onto the path of creating music. We touch on our love for horror movies and how it makes us think about society and more in this 2 hour chat.

Enjoy this chat with Joshua and I as we finally get time to link up to do this chat.  I had met Josh when I was in Buffalo NY for what would become the last Every Time I Die Christmas shows one night at The Pink, one of THE BEST dive bars I've ever been to in my travels.

While I had no idea where this conversation would go we got to talking about growing up in the east coast and the rich cultural melting pot that has allowed Josh to find himself as a creative/musician, as well as opening up about previous substance abuse issues, finding an extended family....which ultimately has allowed him to have an interesting career in the culinary field.

We also talk about being in the bar industry, what it's taught us about ourselves, and others, as well as talking about the last ETID shows, and what the band has meant to us over the years of growing up with the band and more.

Join Fox and I as we talk about how See You Next Tuesday ended up coming back from a hiatus, and subsequently ended up working on their first album in 15 years, Distractions.

We get into some of the lyrical themes of the singles that have come out so far, Fox wanting to go further with his lyrics and vocal approach. We also get into Fox learning to work on himself around the pandemic, how he got really into hiking and camping and removing himself from the busyness of the world around him. How being entrenched with nature pushed him to pursue photography and painting landscapes.

Fox also teases another band of his coming back, my comparison of how Intervals was SYNT's "Shape of Punk to come" and more.

How he recently had a moment where he enjoyed being at a show as a spectator laying on the grass and not watching the show, but listening to it and how perception isn't always what it seems.

We also get into being an old soul, how we think that might just come from being comfortable with ourselves as we've gotten older, how that has translated over to his career of not really fitting in any one place, but fitting in wherever the band is and finding success through the bands work ethic.

Tyler also talks about owning his own label, how he and his wife were pen pals before getting married and how they've traversed their relationship with both being touring musicians and more in this conversation.

01 Sep 2024462. Matt McAndrew (Rain City Drive) 01:43:27

Join Matt and I as catch up on the world of Rain City Drive.

We get into the decision to change the bands name, and how it was actually something he wanted to change before their last album came out. Working with Rory from Dayseeker and how that collaboration came to be.

Matt also shares how the approach to this album was different from To Better Days, how being more comfortable in who he is and what he does allowed him to lose the chip on his shoulder he had previously.

We also talk about the process for putting out new music out, the reaction to the bands newer music when the bands on the road, and some of the more creative merch items the band has been selling as of late and more in this chat with the Rain City Drive frontman.

06 Nov 2022374. Jack Collins (Dead Poets Society) 01:29:04
Join Jack and I as he and the rest of the Dead Poet Society guys make the trek to a gig in Chicago. We get into being on the road and traveling and how things that Jack has noticed about the world, and how it may have changed him. Jack also gets into working from the road, if it's hard to not suffer any burnout if he's always working all the time, which led us to talking about the bands journey up the ranks over the last few years. How hard it is to make any sort of headway in the industry, and how the lack of transparency in that money and connections is what gets people there...in addition to the bands hard work of course. We talk about the shifting landscape of how bands put out music, where it may be heading, and how Jack and the Dead Poet Society guys believe in making an album versus dropping singles and more in this chat. 16 Feb 2025486. Sergio Medina (Dance Gavin Dance / Eidola / Royal Coda) 01:59:18

Join Sergio and I as we talk about how its been finding himself while working with 3 bands. Sergio discusses how he's really honed in on being of service to not only the other musicians he's collaborating with but to the song itself. We get into where Sergio's sense of style and live show comes from.

We dive into the journey he and Eidola have been on over the last 3 releases, culminating in a double album that went from the bands heaviest, Eviscerate, to the bands lightest, Mend. We talk about how that process was for Sergio, admittedly not being into the heavier side of things, but how that allowed him to really express himself on Mend. We get into what the future holds for the band and where Sergio thinks it could go.

Sergio also talks about how he got involved with Blue Swan Records from the label side of things, and how it has been for him learning the ins and outs or working for and help run a label. Some of the early challenges he faced, and taking a moment to reflect on the successes along the way.
