On this week’s episode of Braves Country, we focus on The Allman Brothers Band and the Big House Museum in historic Macon, Georgia!

In 1969 the Allman Brothers Band, as the founders of what became known as Southern Rock, changed the course of popular American music and turned Macon into the recording hot bed of the '70s.

The band was formed by brothers Duane Allman (slide guitar and lead guitar) & Gregg Allman (vocals, organ, songwriting), Dickey Betts (lead guitar, vocals, songwriting), Berry Oakley (bass guitar), Butch Trucks (drums), and Jaimoe (drums). 

The Big House Museum is an amazing place to visit! It was the house where members of the band, crew, friends and families lived until 1973. It was the gathering place in those early years when the magic that is the Allman Brothers Band was beginning to take shape…

Jackie Raye was raised in Athens, GA. attending North Oconee HS and grew up a #Dawgs fan though her dad coached at Georgia Tech. She grew up not dancing and acting but practicing taekwondo. As a teenager Jackie changed paths and started focusing on the arts. She was accepted to TCU's elite theatre program and after graduating she moved to NYC. Before there was Stetson Bennett, there was Benjamin  Franklin “Buck” Belue! Buck Belue famously  quarterbacked the Georgia Bulldogs to a 12-0 record in  1980, culminating with a 17-10 win over Notre Dame Jan.  1, 1981 in the Sugar Bowl to give UGA the National  Championship! And this year, Buck takes Dawgs Fans  on a trip down memory lane with his NEW book, “Inside  the Hedges: The Quarterback's Journey to the 1980  National Championship”. The Valdosta, Georgia native  also lettered in baseball all four years at Georgia, played  three years in the Montreal Expos organization, played  pro football in the USFL for the Jacksonville Bulls, and  coached at Valdosta State! In late 2009, Brit Turner, Drummer of the great Southern Rock Band Blackberry Smoke was on tour in Europe when he was given the devastating news that his daughter Lana had been diagnosed with Stage 4 neuroblastoma, a rare form of cancer that develops from nerve tissue. 

Only 3 at the time, tumors had taken over 97 percent of Lana's body. Brit and his wife Shannon were devastated but resolved to fight the disease. After years of treatment, in 2011 The Turner family finally received the good news that Lana’s cancer had gone into remission. That was when Brit Turner made a commitment to ensuring the wellbeing of all children... 

Since 2011, Blackberry Smoke has donated over $400,000 to childhood cancer organizations through the band’s meet & greet experiences purchased by fans. AND they’ve helped establish The Lana Turner foundation to use the power of music, art and community to promote and benefit children’s physical and mental wellbeing as they work to support families that are fighting children’s cancer - and work to find a cure.

Bream was a key player for the Worst to First ’91 Braves, led Atlanta back to the World Series in ’92 with “The Slide”, and was there again in ’93…

Coming from Covington, Georgia, Drew Parker began singing at age 3in front of small church crowds. Over the years, he began to build his confidence and, at age 14, he decided to pick up a guitar and teach himself how to play songs from his inspirations, such as Keith Whitley, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Travis Tritt, and Alan Jackson. At age 18, he expanded his musical abilities and learned to play piano, both of which he still uses today to craft his songs...

Parker made the move to Nashville, Tennessee in 2015 and signed a publishing deal with RiverHouse/WarnerChappell in 2017. He is a co-writer on Luke Combs’ debut platinum record “This Ones For You”, Jake Owen’s single “Homemade” and Luke Combs’ “1,2 Many”. AND he's currently on the “Cold Beer Calling My Name” Tour with Jameson Rogers...

Farris got personal on his last record, “Silver & Stone” on Compass Records. The title referred to his wife Julie's wedding ring, and the album is a celebration of their 25+ years of marriage and her steadfastness in sticking by him through his years struggling with addiction and alcoholism. 

Now sober for many years, Farris has the energy and conviction of a man saved, a stack of anecdotes and life experiences that would make most people’s heads spin, and a soulful vocal delivery reminiscent of Sam Cooke or Otis Redding.

Emmy Award winner and two-time Grammy nominee David Cross is an inventive performer, writer, and producer on stage and screen. You might know David Cross from his Comedy Specials on HBO, NY Times Best Selling Books, outrageous Comedy Albums, and of course his zany roles on the HBO sketch comedy series "Mr. Show" and as 'Tobias Funke' in the hilarious TV sitcom, "Arrested Development". Lily Rose is broke new ground in the Nashville music scene with her single, "Villain." On Dec. 1, 2020, Rose posted a clip of "Villain," a song about a break-up she believed ended cordially, only to find out she'd been painted as the 'bad guy' through social media. The song connected significantly with fans, and two weeks later Rose independently released "Villain" on Dec. 15. The single immediately rocketed to the top of the iTunes all-genre chart, where it held steady at No.1 above Taylor Swift's latest releases for several days and remained in the iTunes Top 30 for five consecutive weeks. One week after the release of "Villain," SiriusXM The Highway added the explosive track to full rotation.
Rose's reactive single "Villain" caught the attention of Big Loud Records / Back Blocks Music and Republic Records who signed her to a joint-venture record deal in Jan. 2021. Rose grew up in Atlanta as a self-taught drummer and guitarist but it wasn't until high school that she discovered her voice. As an athlete and distinguished singer, Rose had to decide which avenue to pursue. Bar sets and cover shows in her college town of Athens, GA led to headlining and sold out shows across Athens, Atlanta, Nashville and NYC, prompting her to make the move to Nashville in 2017. Her musical influences range from Rascal Flatts, Keith Urban and Bruce Springsteen to Katy Perry reflecting her innate ability to adopt a "futuristic" 21st century country sound. She currently resides in Nashville where she continues to write and record new music with a focus on melody and hook driven songwriting style, which has proven to resonate among country, pop and rock alike. This fall, Rose will hit the road on Chris Lane’s highly anticipated Fill Them Boots tour.

At 12, he was selected to sing with Kenny Rogers as a part of his annual Christmas concert which awakened his passion for performing. James’ pursuit towards music moved him away from home when he was handpicked by producer David Foster to participate in his 2009 "Hit Man Tour”.
