13 Jan 2024 | Episode 156: On Playing with Parents | 01:13:48
On episode two of the "On Playing With" series I focus in on my family's long running family game night. But not before digging into some of the history that brought us to being capable of having family game nights. There is overlap in some ways between this conversation and the last episode. Including how, sometimes, I am just glad to log off after a long night of walking the mom's through a new game. I also start to dig into what it's like to teach someone how to play games, which is actually a lot harder than you might think it is. https://www.twitch.tv/nerdybitstv You can listen to us below, or on iTunes , Spotify, and Google Play! 21 Apr 2021 | Episode 134: Intro to Storytelling w/ Adron Buske | 01:33:00
Happy Wednesday folks! Long time no talk! Bounty Board is back this week to kick off a series about storytelling in games and to help us get the ball rolling we have special guest Adron Buske! Adron hosts the Fictitious Podcast a show focused on diving into the “Storytelling Craft of Science Fiction and Fantasy” (we know, its fancier than we sound…). Having met at a local gaming expo in STL called Pixel Pop a few years back, Adron and Caleb have interacted several times over the years and finally they made the time to actually record. Together the two get into storytelling in games. For a long time games were seen as just a kids hobby, but as time has progressed, games have become more and more capable of telling truly masterful stories. Caleb and Adron discuss what works for them, what games they think of all the time, moments that captured their attention completely. They talk about many other things as well, so buckle up! 22 Feb 2022 | Episode 143: Discovering Creativity and Ramen w/ Fawzi Mesmar | 01:25:57
Happy Tuesday everyone! A few weeks ago I had the honor of having the third and final co-host of The Habibi's Podcast, Fawzi Mesmar, on Bounty Board! Fawzi is currently the Vice President of Editorial at Ubisoft but has been a consummate globe trotter up to this point, working at studios from Australia to Japan to Germany! Together Fawzi and I talk about a sampler platter of topics, from teaching students, hunting for the source of creativity, making games in today's industry, to the most appropriate conversation ever: Our shared love for Ramen. Come hang out while we shoot the breeze.
30 Jan 2021 | Episode 126 - Are MTX Gameplay? | 01:28:49
Happy weekend folks! Forgive our slight delay. Moving some things around for syndication purposes and making sure we have all the boxes ticked. You understand. This week on Bounty Board the crew each brought their own topic to the show, and boy did Ben bring a doozy! Microtransactions are seemingly the way of the future. Does that bode well for gamers or is it a predatory ploy that is ruining games? Tech asks if Streamers should be responsible for educating kids, and Caleb shows off the NerdyBits Rally car while talking customization in games. Join us on this week’s episode of Bounty Board! 19 Mar 2021 | Episode 132: Inclusivity, Magic, and Food w/ Rami Ismail | 02:05:15
Happy Friday folks! I tried to sit on this one until Monday, but I just couldn’t. Earlier this week I had the opportunity to talk to Rami Ismail. Rami is an indie developer, spokesperson, advocate for inclusion, foodie. All those things. In 2018 the Game Developer’s Choice Awards named Rami and Ambassador, making him the first Arab, and first Muslim given the award. Since then he has owned the title Ambassador. We sat down to specifically talk about diversity and crunch in the industry at large, but what ensued was a far more broad conversation about games. Games as an entry point for unheard stories, games as almost literal magic, games as a pursuit of the cutting edge, games about food, and games as a bridge between generations. Who would have thought we would both be able to share stories about teaching our moms to play games? This is a good on y’all. Happy Friday. Have a great weekend! Join us on this week’s Bounty Board! You can listen to us below, or on iTunes , Stitcher, Spotify, and Google Play! So whether you have an Apple or Android device, we are available for streaming and download. 23 Jun 2023 | Episode 151: Cutscenes Edition #1 | 00:29:07
So this is a weird one! I'm switching up the way I do movie reviews! I find it so much more gratifying and have received far more feedback spending a few weeks on a piece, ruminating, than when I slap together a 1300 word movie review the day after. It all just ends up feeling like hunting for the best tagline rather than the best thought. So, in the interest of enjoying watching movies in a critical capacity, I am transitioning the short "reviews" into audio bits I'm calling Cutscenes! On this first edition of Cutscenes I talk about Disney's Elemental, Wes Anderson's Asteroid City, and the new comedy No Hard Feelings. in the future I will do one movie per little episode. Most of the time. Cheers! You can listen to us below, or on iTunes , Stitcher, Spotify, and Google Play! So whether you have an Apple or Android device, we are available for streaming and download. 28 Jan 2022 | Episode 142: Making Games in Remote Settings w/ Okomotive | 01:28:27
Happy Friday folks! A few years ago Caleb stumbled across the trailer for a little indie title called FAR: Lone Sails. He was immediately smitten by the games muted color palette, striking vistas, and phenomenal score. Little did he know that he would find an experience that would help him put context to the grief of losing his grandfather. FAR: Lone Sails helped me deeply. Fast forward almost three years and he had the splendid opportunity to record an episode of Bounty Board with a few members from the Okomotive team! Come hang out with Caleb as he speaks with Fabio Baumgartner (Programmer and Sound Designer) and Phillip Stern (Level Designer, Artist, and Writer) about their process and the work they contributed to FAR Lone Sails and to the upcoming FAR: Changing Tides. It is a lovely conversation that spans topics from learning to develop apart from the friends you have known for years, to quickly agreeing that burritos might be the best form of food, to knowing your own limits and maybe not playing a game if it triggers something in you. This was such a great chat folks. Happy Friday. Have a great weekend!

Hey everyone! This week we dive into downloadable content (DLC), one of the more contentious points in the videgame industry. DLC has been around for about 15 years now (on consoles) and with them has come dozens of new ways for games to deliver content to their fans post game release. Not all of the methods explored are liked. Some are the ideal way to deliver the story and content. Take a minute and listen to us this week as we dig deeper into this conflicted topic.

How would/should they adapt? Do they need to become more expensive to balance cost? There are a lot of questions here, many without definite answers yet. 07 Aug 2018 | Bounty Board 010: The Fall (Release Schedule) of Games | 01:29:15
Caleb and Eric gather at the microphones to discuss the overloaded fall release schedule of games. There are 16 larger titles due to release in October alone! When you start counting smaller titles, the number quickly becomes absurd. Is this over-saturation of titles hurting the industry? Would it behoove game makers to spread the wealth and allow the consumers time to save between blockbuster releases? We discuss what we look for in the GOTY, as well as define what categories we break the award into (i.e. Indie GOTY, Adventure GOTY, Roleplaying GOTY. 03 Sep 2018 | Bounty Board 014: What Does RPG Really Mean | 01:51:35
RPG stands for Role Playing Game, plain and simple. Only, it isn't that plain and simple. What does playing a role mean in games? Taking control of a character? Creating your own character?Do you have to have agency over the story or can the story be told to you? What about leveling and progression systems? Quickly, Caleb and Eric realize that, though a lot of things get tagged as RPGs, many of those games have "RPG elements" and aren't actual RPGs. After all, what really is and RPG? Do games take themselves too seriously? I mean, think about it, when was the last time you laughed in a game? When was the last time you played a game that was consistently funny? It’s a little hard to think of one outside of Borderlands and Portal 2, right? Maybe our favorite medium needs to ease up on the grim gravy and dole out a little silly sauce. 12 Nov 2018 | Bounty Board 020: A Moral Compass | 01:36:09
How good or bad are you when you play a game? Do you step into the role of hero, savior, saint of the people, doing everything you can to be good? Or are you a monster, taking life at every chance, leaving a swath of destruction in your wake? Do you play as if the character is you, or do you roleplay the character in the game? This week on Bounty Board, Caleb and Eric are joined by another special guest: Benjamin Sawyer. Together they debate the use of morality in games, speak to their own playstyles, and break down times when morality worked for them and times that it didn’t. How do they play Arthur Morgan, protagonist (question mark?) of Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2? Is he a Criminal with a heart of gold, or a ruthless outlaw? This ain’t no place for no heroes. Why can’t we get a good video game movie? Seriously. Why does it feel like every time we get our hopes up that someone will get it right, those same hopes get dashed against the rocks when the film comes out? This week on Bounty Board Caleb and Eric try and figure out why so many of these movies are bad, and if we will ever get a good one. Also…what the fuck is up with that Sonic the Hedgehog poster? 14 Jan 2019 | Bounty Board 026: Game Pass is Crushing It Y'all | 01:47:38
Xbox’s monthly subscription service Game Pass launched on June 1st, 2017. When it launched people were curious what the gaming company could offer gamers with what looked like it aimed to create a Netflix for games. Over the last year an a half, Game Pass has become one of the most valuable services available to gamers. Today the service has given players Below, Ashen, Mutant Year Zero, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, Absolver, and Life is Strange 2: Part 1. And that is just in December and January. This week on Bounty Board the crew welcomes friend of the show Bobby Pease (@Bobbypease) to talk about just how good Game Pass is. We talk about what we love about the service and what excites us for the future. We talk about how Game Pass is preparing Xbox for a stellar next generation. Finally we break down what we have played and loved, what is underrated, and what games we would never have tried if they hadn’t been on Game Pass. 21 Jan 2019 | Bounty Board 027: Video Games Mobilize | 01:44:12
Mobile games are the games that everyone plays but nobody talks about. Nearly everyone has a cellphone, most of the people with a phone have a single game installed. In terms of market saturation, the mobile market is ripe for money making, in incredibly large sums. But there is a culture taboo around mobile games it seems. Most people don’t want to pay 3 or 4 dollars for a game, how then do developers convince them to purchase 10 or 20 dollar games? This week on Bounty Board, the crew dives into the mobile gaming industry. How can developers appeal to more users? Is there a way to break the cultural conditioning that turns so many people away from mobile software? If games could temporarily block your notifications, would you play more? Join us for a lively discussion! News for the week: Spider-Man: Far From Home Trailer Releases, Reveals Mysterio You can listen to us below, or on iTunes and Stitcher! 28 Jan 2019 | Bounty Board 028: Hype Train Wreck | 01:40:22
The Hype Train gets us all eventually. We see a game that we didn’t know was coming out. The fresh trailer, the beautiful visuals, the new take on gameplay. In an instant we get drawn into an unshakeable feeling of expectation. Numerous games have exploited this expectation. Drawing fans in for pre-orders, purchases, and DLC down the road. But some games have fallen victim to its power. The first Watch Dogs, a delightfully mediocre game in the first wave of games released on next gen hardware, was panned by critics who seemed to be expecting the second coming. This week on Bounty Board, the crew dives into whether or not the Hype Train is hurting the industry, forcing studios to come clean on their promises, or turning gamers away altogether. After all, when was the last time you let yourself get hyped for an upcoming title (Anthem and Division 2 for us, shhhh……)? 05 Feb 2019 | Bounty Board 029: In Indie We Trust | 01:40:08
For the longest time, the biggest and baddest games have fallen in the AAA category. A category of games that comes with millions of dollars for production, a huge marketing budget, dozens (if not hundreds) of developers, and the majority of the community’s attention. Then, in the late 2000s a movement began to gain momentum. As digital distribution grew, smaller studios began to release titles left and right. Titles that spoke to player’s emotions, specific genres and playstyles, and most importantly player’s wallets. Indie games were cheaper, but didn’t cut corners on quality. Almost overnight, indie games became a real contender in the video gaming world. This week on Bounty Board the crew dives into the indie “revolution” of the late 2000s and the indie “renaissance” we are in now. There are so many good indies that we actually forget that some of the games that we play are in the indie bracket. We reminisce on some of our favorites, talk about what lead to our AAA disenfranchisement, and discuss how indie games have brought the industry back into focus as a whole. A great talk here, folks! 13 Feb 2019 | Bounty Board 030: Should Games Cost More? | 01:44:26
There has been an almost constant debate in the game industry for the last decade: Should games cost more? With the ever-increasing cost of development, video game publishers and developers have been tirelessly searching for new ways to bring in money. Is that through adding those “dreaded” microtransactions? Is it by creating a season pass that nabs that extra bit of money off the bat from gamers? Or does it come from raising the initial price of games overall? This week on Bounty Board the crew dives into the debate on the price of games. Should they go up? Is there something different that publishers could be doing to get more money from their audiences? How much would you pay for a game that you put 1000 hours into? What about a game that you only put 30 into? News for the week: Xbox Live Expansion Leak You can listen to us below, or on iTunes and Stitcher! 19 Feb 2019 | Bounty Board 031: The End of Big Publishers? | 01:54:58
In the last few months, large publishers within the gaming industry have endured some woes. Blizzard lost several CFOs in a single 10 day stretch, EA’s earnings report showed a tough Q3 for them, Activision and Bungie divorced, and finally (this last week) Activision/Blizzard laid off 800 employees despite having a “record year in sales.” Those layoffs specifically, incited a lot of backlash from the other developers, journalists, and the community as a whole. More and more, developers have started seeking ways to protect themselves and their jobs from a surprisingly cutthroat industry. This week the Bounty Board Crew ask ourselves the question: Are we seeing the fall of the Big Publishers? Are EA and Activision dying or is the industry forcing them to evolve? How can games become more profitable? Will We see more studios go indie? Join us for another great episode! 26 Feb 2019 | Bounty Board 032: The Anthem of Criticism | 01:42:16
BioWare’s highly anticipated new IP Anthem is finally out!!! There have been a lot of things floating around the internet since the beginning of the early access started. Many spoke out about the games brokenness, incompletion, and flop. But as a group who has played and enjoyed the game, we find ourselves…confused. Why do the opinions on Anthem differ so greatly? How can a reviewer call a Live Service game that isn’t out yet incomplete? We aren’t going to tell you that Anthem is perfect either. We understand that there are aspects that could be fixed. The loading screens ARE bad. The flow of Forge, Mission, Post-Mission, Tarsis is slow and breaks the rhythm of the game up. But is it as bad as people are saying? Check out this episode for our takes! News for the week: Punisher and Jessica Jones Canceled You can listen to us below, or on iTunes and Stitcher! 06 Mar 2019 | Bounty Board 033: Apex Legends | 01:35:32
Hey folks! Dont know if you have noticed this or not, but Apex Legends is CRUSHING IT! In the first month alone the new Battle Royale game out of Respawn Entertainment has accrued 50 million players. There is just so much that Apex is getting right that the Bounty Board crew HAD to talk about it. We talk about our favorite Legends to play with, the ones we didn’t jive with, what we like about this new take on the Battle Royale genre, and so many other things. Like, how is the Ping system so damn good? Who would have thought that a hero style shooter would make a good Battle Royale game. Apex Marketing 101: A Class in Surprise Launch Hype. 12 Mar 2019 | Bounty Board 034: What is a Gamer? | 01:54:52
Games have been a round a long time. Like, before most of our show hosts were born, sorry @hybridglass (he’s old). But because they have been around so long, millions of people have been impacted by games. That group of gamers is diverse as all heck! Men, women, boys, girls, white, black, young, old, gay, straight. Gamers come in EVERY size and shape. So to celebrate that, we wanted to talk about not only what this beautiful group looks like, but how we came to call ourselves gamers as well. This week on Bounty Board the crew celebrates being gamers. We talk about where it all started for us. We talk about how it has changed our lives. We talk about the impact it has had not only in our social circles but in our families. Truly, we can all be gamers, and the more people who join us, the stronger we become (boy did that sound ominous *wrings hands excitedly). 19 Mar 2019 | Bounty Board 035: The Division 2 is Here! | 01:30:10
The Bounty Board crew has been excited about Division 2 since the day it was announced. Last week they got to dive into the new title from Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft. 20 levels deep, and impressed by what the sequel to the best selling new franchise ever has to offer, we want to talk all things Division 2. The first game, though it sold well, was full of issues, both small and large. How did they address the Dark Zone griefing issues? How did they address the lack of endgame content in the initial game’s launch? Come listen as we discuss the things we love about this new title and the things we want to see improved. 25 Mar 2019 | Bounty Board 036: Stadia, The Future of Games? | 02:00:42
Folks…There’s been some exciting things going on in the last week. Whooo-eee! This Bounty Board has a whole lot of news for you! From trailers out the wazoo, to Disney and Fox finalizing their merger, to Battle Passes, to Anniversary content, to Suicide Squad reboots. This week has been CRAZY! All of that news culminated with Google’s unveiling of Stadia, a new platform for gaming, and it has been all we have been able to talk about. So, join the crew this week as we dive into, not only what Stadia will mean for the industry immediately, but what the future of gaming looks like overall. Will streaming be the main way to play games in the future? How far away is that future? How long until games on disc are treated like VHS and production of physical media halts altogether? There are a lot of questions in here and we do our best to come to conclusions on as many as we can. News for the week: LucasArts Returns? 02 Apr 2019 | Bounty Board 037: eSports and Stuff | 01:59:28
So we sat down this week to go in-depth on eSports and then realized…we have already done that. Batting 1.000 over here. So instead of going super deep on eSports, a rapidly growing industry across the globe, we decided to talk about what eSports means to us. Why we watch them, or don’t. What games we like to watch. What games we want to see take center stage. And what games we think will help eSports break through to the beer and nachos crowd. We also gush a lot about the Borderlands 3 reveal. Because, why wouldn’t we? There are guns with legs, for crying out loud! Also we are are obsessed with the mechanical hunk that is Flak. 09 Apr 2019 | Bounty Board 038: Games vs. Movies | 01:44:52
This week on Bounty Board the crew wanted to take a second and figure out why we will all argue about games until our eyes grow heavy, but we will let you dislike a movie all you want. Like…seriously. Why do we defend games so hard? Is it because we get to play games, and can only watch movies? Is it because we just like games more than we like movies? We also have a short discussion about what “Real Games” are. And boy, that was…interesting (love you Sarge). Join us as we talk Star Wars and Star Wars games, why you are allowed to hate our favorite movies, and why you can never say a single bad word about Red Dead, or @LubWub will challenge you to a duel. 15 Apr 2019 | Bounty Board 039: First Person or Third Person? | 01:49:40
This week on Bounty Board, the crew discusses the pros and cons of the two most pervasive perspectives in games: First Person and Third Person. So many games fall into the these two categories. From Call of Duty to Farming Simulator, the perspective we see these games through dictates how we experience games. In this episode we ask ourselves what about these two viewpoints impacts us and how do they impact the stories and experiences they present. Does third person make for a more immersive experience or first person? When you are playing an RPG with a created character, is third or first person better? Do you play Battle Royale games in third or first person? The questions are nearly endless, but the crew comes to a few pretty solid conclusions. Aaaaaaaand we also get really off track…don’t judge us… News for the week: Star Wars IX Gets a Trailer and a Subtitle You can listen to us below, or on iTunes , Stitcher, Spotify, and Google Play! This week the Crew talks about the differences and their preference between long games and short games. Hey everyone! @LubWub is back! He has returned from the UK and as he came back @hybridglass headed off to Chicago, so we are joined by guest @sketchsawyer on the ol’ Bounty Board! This week we bring up the age old debate: Are Games Art? It is a lively discussion, as the Crew talk table their arguments. Are all games art or is it only some? Do sports games count as art? Is photorealistic rendering artistic? Is the “Games as Art” movement really “ruining games"? So much to talk about! 24 May 2019 | Bounty Board 044: Do Exclusives Really Define a Console? | 01:50:29
Hey friends! The Bounty Board is back this again! This week the Crew dives into whether or not console exclusives define the console. There is no question in the world that Sony’s PS4 has dominated the console market in total sales, both in hardware and in exclusive software. But is that the thing that will be talked about as the next generation approaches? Xbox has been on a meteoric rise in the last two years, due largely to their successful introduction of the Xbox Game Pass service. The debate is lively in this one. Are PlayStation’s exclusives the reason they won the “console war”. Is it at all possible that Xbox’s poor launch impacted the race more? What happened to Halo and Gears of War. the Xbox flagship titles have been largely quiet this generation. The crew is in rare form this week, so dive in and get ready for @hybridglass’s coffee to “slide into your BMs.” News for the week: Game Pass Reveals 8 New Titles You can listen to us below, or on iTunes , Stitcher, Spotify, and Google Play! 31 May 2019 | Bounty Board 045: Can Games Be Mediocre? | 02:00:50
Hello friends! Bounty Board is back again, this time with a guest! Richard Nava (@richarrizard) joins the crew this week to talk about the existence of mediocre games. Prompted by a conversation on Kinda Funny Games Daily, @LubWub wanted to ask the question, “Are mediocre games ok?” Do we need to hold games to a nearly unattainable standard, a standard set by iconoclasts like God of War, The Last of Us, or Marvel’s Spider-Man? In this week’s episode we dive deep into the reality that not all games can be perfection. Should gamers be more forgiving? Should we be more willing to talk up and suggest games that aren’t perfect? Are B-games, like B-movies, in need of a more definitive genre? What kinds of “mediocre” games have we played? How many have we loved, despite their not being “THE BEST THING EVARRRR"? Join us as we talk about why all games have a place, and how art is always objective. It is here. E3 is just a day away. This is the moment we have all be waiting for. So of course, your crew of wonderful nerds (and @sergeantsodium), sat down and talked about what they wanted to see on video games biggest stage. This one is dense y’all, so I will stay brief here. We run through a series of questions for each of the big conferences: What do they NEED to do this year? What do we know we will see? Longshot prediction? Sure thing prediction (unannounced)? What will define their presentation? Dig in folks. There is a lot going on in this one! 21 Jun 2019 | Bounty Board 048: The Ethics of Leaks | 02:04:56
With E3 in the rearview mirror and the coming fall of games, the Bounty Board crew take some time to talk about something that happens frequently in games, especially as E3 approaches: Leaks. There were several things that leaked out to the public in the days drawing up to E3. Bandai Namco had a security breach that lead to the reveal of many unannounced titles, Bleeding Edge footage with a “CONFIDENTIAL” watermark found its way onto the web, details about Star Wars came out. @hybridglass is out of town this week, exploring the wilds of West Elizabeth (Colorado), so we are joined by friend and fan of the show @RealDirtySmurf. With all of these leaks a debate rose up within the group: Are leaks a good thing or a bad thing? Are there good leaks and bad leaks? Are all leaks the same? Do they damage the perception of the games that are detailed? Do they damage the studios making the games? The questions are abundant in this episode, and the answers aren’t all clear. Join the gang and their guest as we debate the ethics of leaks. Then, for the fall, we give you our Most Anticipated, Sleeper Hit, and Surprise Hit (the one that we are surprised we are interested in). We’ve got The Fall on the horizon folks. 05 Jul 2019 | Bounty Board 050: Couch Co-op vs. Online Multiplayer | 01:47:44
Happy Birthday America! While everyone is recovering from ringing ears and freedom beer hangovers, join your favorite nerds as they talk about gathering around the TV with a bunch of friends and blowing other shit up. Couch co-op, sitting next to people for you co-op gaming, was nearly a thing of the past. The Xbox One and PS4, while more powerful systems, didn’t quite continue the legacy of couch co-op games, and instead leaned into playing games online. In this week’s Bounty Board, the crew sit down and talk about why this transition took place, how it came to be, and whether they think that couch co-op is making a return or if it is dead. To spice things up, Eric brought his couch co-op partner Matt, on the show to join us. Matt and Eric have been going to each other’s house to play games, reigniting the passion for shared gaming experiences. The guys talk about a lot tonight. They reminisce on Halo: CE and Halo 2, and the global phenomena those games were. They discuss the rise of online gaming and how the introduction of broadband changed the space forever. They talk about Call of Duty, and the wave of PvP game types that became available as a result of dividing the community into their own homes. It is an interesting episode Folks! 09 Aug 2019 | Bounty Board 055: Toxicity in Games | 01:33:52
What’s up folks! This weeks Bounty Board comes with a bit of a bittersweet moment. Our very own Sawft-Clothez Sommelier is heading out. Bobby is stepping away from the show to pursue a few other opportunities and tend to some changes in routine at home. Bobby has been an incredible member of the team, and we are all so happy to have had the opportunity to share this show with him. Godspeed in your new endeavors friend, and don’t be a stranger! This week on Bounty Board, with guest host , the crew dives a discussion about Toxicity in Games. We discuss the toxicity we have experienced, the toxic tactics we have seen deployed, the toxic tactics we have used at times, and what the road to a less toxic environment might look like. How will big companies like Microsoft and Sony work to counter-act toxic interactions and repeat offenders? Is there a way to do this effectively or will toxicity always be around in some way? Is toxicity inherent to gaming? @hybridglass is traveling this week as well, so tune in to hear @LubWub and @sergeantsodium hold it down with guest @sketchsawyer! With companies like Telltale closing, EA and Activision laying off hundreds, and stories of excruciating crunch at BioWare, Epic, Rockstar, and beyond, how do folks that work in the game industry protect themselves? Fortnite is two years old. PUBG two and a half. How have those games done in their time on the market? More importantly, how are other Battle Royales doing? Since the initial craze of the last man standing game mode, we have seen several titles tick across our feeds. Vigor, The Darwin Project, Ring of Elysium, and perhaps most notably, Apex Legends. At the same time, the “I can’t escape this” craze has seemingly died down. Join Caleb, Ben, and Ryan as they discuss whether Battle Royale is here to stay, or if it is on its way out.

What’s up everyone! We have a bit of a special episode this week. A few weeks ago, Caleb and Ben had the opportunity to talk to Kevin Agwaze, Treasurer of Game Workers Unite UK. We wanted to go more in depth than we could on our Unionization episode, so we went straight to the source! Our conversation with Kevin was great, and covered anything from European laws that protect their workers, to what a game engine really is. There is a lot of value in this talk. We want to thank Kevin and Game Workers Unite for being so willing to talk to us. It was a blast. Enjoy! NOTE: Because Kevin is in the UK we had a few audio mishaps and drops, so please forgive some of the choppiness!

Caleb has been tied up with Breakpoint for the last few weeks with no one to join him, so he leads the charge on this question. The conversation takes a turn eventually, but we won’t spoil that for you here, you have to dig In and hear it yourself.

What’s up everyone!? How is it going? Bet you are about to be doing a lot better! This week’s episode of Bounty Board is LIVE now! Join Caleb, Ryan, and Ben as they dig into the question: Are Games Getting Too Big? It is no big secret that games are getting larger and larger. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey was absolutely massive, with a sprawling map littered with miscellaneous tasks and activities. Breakpoint is pretty similar in scale. Maybe it’s just Ubisoft games? The crew gets into the weeds a bit in this one, as they are wont to do. The discussion veers into the overloaded Fall release schedule, whether games have always been long, the ability for indie titles to be shorter, the impetus for AAA studios to create groundbreaking, and large-scale titles. Come hang out with us as we talk it out!

What’s up friends!? Your favorite video game podcast is back this week with a new episode! This week Caleb, Ben, and Ryan dig into the some questions that have been plaguing them. 18 Apr 2020 | Bounty Board 088: Games as a Social Medium | 01:32:57
What is up nerds!? We are all finding ways to socialize with the people we can no longer visit in person. For many of us that has led to long hours online, playing games, trying out new things. For Caleb and Ryan that has meant diving head first into Stardew Valley. For Caleb and Ben the high seas have salted our faces. There are thousands of games to explore in these trying times, and so many people have backlogs to dig through so the Bounty Board crew asked each other the question, “Are games made to be a social medium?” We all have memories tied to games. Long nights with friends, LAN parties, tournaments at GameCrazy. But a lot of the things we used to congregate around as a community have faded away. Do we still find a way to meet up? Or are we truly less social because of games, like so many people try to assume? Join the Bounty Board crew as they discuss the social aspects of the industry we love!
