Myles recently won a Gold Award for Best News Coverage at the Aria Awards in London for an exposé into a so-called ‘Pick Up Artist’ operating in Glasgow , which led to the individual being jailed for two years and placed on the offenders register for ten years. 

What followed was Myles going undercover and posing as a-student at a Pick Up Artist bootcamp in London, before confronting the organisers on what they were doing.

95-year-old Tom recently held an exhibition of his incredible oil paintings, depicting 1930’s Glasgow, at the Forge, in Glasgow’s East End.

Returning listeners will be well aware of Aimen from my two previous chats with him, on the subjects of his life and career. For those who aren’t, here’s a wee bit of background.

Often described as The West’s most significant and valued spy of the 21st century, Aimen worked undercover with MI6, deep within Al Qaeda, providing a constant stream of invaluable information to the British security services. Something that has irrefutably saved thousands of lives. 

On joining MI6, Aimen’s initial debriefs took place in safe houses all over Scotland, sparking an intense love affair with the country. A nation he calls his spiritual home.

After moving to Scotland in 2019, Aimen enrolled his young daughter with one of the country’s top private girls’ schools in Edinburgh. He thought his family were set for life, in the land he chose to call home.

But now, just two and a half years later, the family is set to leave Scotland completely, as things have gone drastically wrong. 

Aimen explains the series of events that have led to this decision to leave the country for good…

Glaswegian Poppy went on a gap year to Thailand when she was 17, and didn’t get on her return flight, instead choosing to set up home in Thailand, where she lived for six years, teaching English and working as a diving instructor. 

A chance meeting with a foreign stranger then led to her moving to Copenhagen to be with him, but things didn’t go to plan.

We talk about moving to Thailand, the excitement that accompanied it, and how it shaped her in her formative years… 

Poppy tells me about the domestic abuse and coercive control she endured at the hands of her then-partner, and how she eventually managed to free herself…

Jennie’s mum Margaret was diagnosed with cancer in 2006, and her first thought was to organise charity nights to raise money for others. Margaret sadly passed away two years later, but Jennie and her family have carried on those fundraising efforts right through to 2023.

We talk about those fund-raising activities, including walking 80 miles in just three days in May of this year…

Jennie tells me about the brutal reality of losing a parent and how she and her family got through it…

Romana recently shared a very thoughtful and introspective Instagram post about a suicide attempt in April last year. I found it to be very profound, so I asked her if she fancied sitting down and having a chat with me.

‘Have you ever thought about killing yourself?’ might seem like a really shocking and insensitive question to ask out loud, let alone have as the title for an episode of a podcast. It could quite reasonably be interpreted as an unsuitably nonchalant and flippant way to ask something so serious. 

And to be fair, when considered out of context, it’s probably all of the above. 

I find that lighthearted conversations are a very good way of getting really heavy things out in the open, and it’s sometimes the only way to cut through them.

These types of conversations on podcasts can very quickly become overkill. Over-done, over-cooked, under achieving, but every now and then, it’s a conversation worth having, and worth sharing. 

Everyone, no matter how successful, rich, loved, famous, has absolutely lost themselves at least once in their lives. 

Money worries, identity worries, job worries, worries about the future, sadness about the past, panic about your career progression or where your life should or shouldn’t be. Families falling apart, friends drifting away. 

It gets to us all and it’s very easy to then think you’re the only one, and Jesus does that make it feel a hundred times lonelier. Well, you’re not the only one, and when you realise that, it somehow makes it that bit more manageable.

We don’t have the answers, if we did, we wouldn’t be having this conversation in the first place. But not every question has a definitive answer, and not every issue has an exact solution. But just talking about them can answer some of it, and solve part of it. And sometimes that’s enough. 

If you can laugh the whole way through, like we did, then that’s even better.

It’s 2011. Novak Djokovic wins his first Wimbledon title, Rangers make it three league win in a row, while Celtic win another Scottish Cup in the rain against Motherwell. Osama bin Laden is killed, Adele tops the charts, and there’s earthquakes and tsunamis in Japan. 

The News of the World closes its doors for good, England burns after riots break out across the nation and the Iraq War finally comes to an end. 

But the explosiveness is only just about to begin.

Young men across the city of Glasgow start to receive friend requests from an attractive young woman named Hayley McKay.

She says she’s a model and the niece of Rangers legend Ally McCoist. She says she met them in a club, or they’d chatted while drunk, but nobody can recall meeting her. 

All of a sudden, Hayley is everywhere. In the papers as a Miss Scotland finalist, flirting online with Celtic & Rangers players and even tagged in Jamie Vardy’s Twitter bio as his girlfriend. 

Before you know it, she’s writing blogs about having life saving surgery, prompting other women to confide in her with their own stories.

Eventually her hoax unravels when a woman in Wales discovers that her pictures are being used in a twisted scam. The Scottish Sun run an article on it, only for it to mysteriously disappear.

So, was this a harmless fantasist, or a dangerous criminal?

Imagine this: You're scrolling through Instagram, TikTok or even Facebook, and suddenly you get a message from someone who seems genuinely interested in you. 

The conversation quickly turns flirtatious, and before you know it, you've shared personal photos and information. And then, the unthinkable happens. The person on the other end reveals their true intentions, and threaten to send it on to your friends and family unless you pay up, or do something equally distressing.

This isn't an urban myth or something that only happens thousands of miles away, this is the reality for many people who fall victim to ‘sextortion’ and blackmail by catfish accounts, and it’s happening where you live.

These twisted predators use fake identities to build trust and manipulate their victims, leading to devastating consequences, both emotionally and financially.

There’s an upcoming parliamentary debate about the Tobacco & Vapes bill, which was first introduced in the House of Commons on the 5th of November, 2024. Its purpose is to significantly improve public health by reducing smoking rates and preventing nicotine addiction among young people.

Here to discuss that with me is Greig Fowler, a business director of Vape retailer VPZ. He says that vaping is an effective tool to get people away from smoking, with Public Health England saying it’s at least 95% safer than smoking. 

We look at the proposed law changes and what they hope to achieve…

We talk about the dangers of driving an already unregulated, £2.4 billion per year market, into increased black market activity…

Here’s a wee bit of information about Michael. He’s a Scottish journalist and broadcaster who has a long list of notable achievements in his field. He’s written for The Scotsman, the Times, The National and The Barrhead News…

He’s featured frequently on BBC Scotland and BBC Radio Scotland, producing a notable documentary for the latter…

And he even created a short film back in 2009, that went on to receive critical acclaim and awards nominations.

You’ll get a good idea about Michael as a man, as a professional, how he sees the world, and how the world sometimes sees him. This isn’t a sob story, it’s absolutely anything but.

This is a story of someone who’s had his challenges and has faced up to them, and proved the point that disability is a label that we should all see beyond, and that people deserve to be seen beyond. There’s a very fine line between admiring someone and patronising them, but I’m in complete admiration of Michael’s tenacity, ambition and ability. A self taught self-starter who has carved his own space in a very competitive, and often ruthless, industry.
