28 Dec 2022Christian Drapeau: The Link Between Stem Cells and Aging01:19:56

Stem cells are at the center of cellular repair. When the natural production of such stem cells slows down at some point in our 30s, it’s only normal that we don’t feel as “young” as we used to. This is because our tissues are slowly losing their turnover abilities. After all, we have fewer stem cells being produced.

The good news is that while the production of stem cells is a biological process, there are some protocols you may follow to maximize the production of stem cells.

Tune into this episode of the Biohacking Beauty podcast with guest Cristian Drapeau to learn more about these stem cell protocols.

Over the past fifteen years, Christian Drapeau has developed several globally recognized nutraceutical stem cell and wellness products and is continuing his botanical research and development effort on supporting the various aspects of the body’s regenerative process.

Currently, Christian is working on a second book describing the link between the number of circulating stem cells and disease formation, namely that people with fewer stem cells are at greater risk for developing age-related degenerative diseases, and that a deficiency in stem cell-based day-to-day endogenous repair is the main underlying cause of disease formation. This work puts stem cells at the core of antiaging medicine, explaining how a daily increase in the number of circulating stem cells can be one of the best antiaging strategies in order to maintain vibrant health, as we age.

Christian is a frequent speaker at Stem Cell Conferences as well as business events worldwide, and has lectured on the physiology of stem cells at various reputable hospitals and universities. He has also been a featured Mensa national event speaker.

04 Jan 2023Ben Azadi: How to Stress Your Body for Greater Longevity00:56:00

Welcome to another episode of the Biohacking Beauty podcast brought to you by Young Goose Skincare! In this episode, host Amitay Eshel, the CEO of Young Goose, is joined by Ben Azadi.

Ben is the author of four best-selling books, Keto Flex, The Perfect Health Booklet, The Intermittent Fasting Cheat Sheet, and The Power of Sleep. Ben has been the go-to source for intermittent fasting and the ketogenic diet.

He is known as ‘The Health Detective’ because he investigates dysfunction, and he educates, not medicates, to bring the body back to normal function. Ben is the founder of Keto Kamp; a global brand bringing awareness to ancient healing strategies such as the keto diet and fasting.

Ben is the host of a top 15 podcast, The Keto Kamp Podcast which won Keto Podcast of The Year (2022) by The Metabolic Health Summit. Ben has the fast growing Keto Kamp YouTube channel with over 150,000 subscribers, and TikTok channel with over 285,000 subscribers and over 46 million video downloads.

Key Takeaways:

  • Contrary to popular belief, you need to expose your body to stressors regularly if you want to optimize your health. This is because by exposing your body to stress, it adapts itself to it in a way where it becomes stronger and more resilient over time.
  • When it comes to achieving optimal health and longevity, the foundations are important because you need to have that strong foundation to build a strong house.
  • What you think is what you attract — and the RAS is responsible for it.The reticular activating system (RAS) is a network of neurons located in the brain stem that project anteriorly to the hypothalamus to mediate behavior, as well as both posteriorly to the thalamus and directly to the cortex for activation of awake, desynchronized cortical EEG patterns.
  • Because you could be purchasing the best supplements in the world and following the best exercise routines, but if your foundations are weak, that house of yours will fall apart.
  • While it’s difficult to restrict your calories by eating less - and dangerous for your health if incorrectly done - there are some different techniques you can tap into to mimic those survival mechanisms that take place during caloric restriction. According to Ben, intermittent fasting is the best way as it has similar benefits without the drawbacks if you do it right.

25 Jan 2023Josh J Holland: The Health Benefits of Self-Awareness, Daily Movement, and Conscious Feedback01:12:31

Welcome to another episode of the Biohacking Beauty podcast brought to you by Young Goose Skincare! In this episode, host Amitay Eshel, the CEO of Young Goose, is joined by Josh J Holland.

Joshua J Holland is a wealth of experiential knowledge and wisdom. As a dedicated biohacker, state-of-the-art fitness trainer, holistic health coach, and sports professional, he champions the philosophy of “awareness through experience,” and has subsequently spent years consulting with elite professionals to build a vast well from which to draw when evoking alignment of body, mind, and spirit for his clients.

Key Takeaways:

  • The ultimate foundation of health is self-awareness. It is through inquiring within that the initial awareness shift happens which allows us to take control of our health. We do a lot of things in our daily lives incorrectly unconsciously, until we become conscious of it. The good news is we’re not stuck in our old habits and ways forever - once we become conscious of them, this newly found awareness provides us with the ability to consciously optimize our efforts. This applies to physical movements such as squats as much as it does to skincare. For example, you may not realize that you are unconsciously tugging at your delicate under-eye skin area too roughly when applying your eye cream, but once you do become conscious of it, you can turn that around.
  • Incorporating exercise into your health optimization protocol should be approached from a movement or play perspective rather than from an exercise perspective. Plus, moving when you feel like it rather than exercising when you think you should allows you to stay consistent.
  • Blood circulation is something that is vital to the health of your skin and which is stimulated through exercise. Blood delivers the necessary nutrients to our skin to defend itself and fight the signs of premature aging. Poor circulation usually entails a decrease in reparative qualities as the waste removal system and healing process will also be weakened. This increases the risk of inflammation within the skin, which may cause breakouts or eczema. If there is a barrier deficiency or even a wound, the lack of proper nutrient delivery to the skin may also result in an inability to repair itself. Thus, the importance of getting movement in daily.

What we discuss:

06:40: About Josh

09:55: How did Josh evolve into who he is today?

23:06: What is the awareness shift?

31:52: How does Josh link his system to the psyche?

01 Feb 2023Robin Switzer: Finding Your Community, Improving Your Baseline, and KetoCon 202300:46:41

Welcome to another episode of the Biohacking Beauty podcast brought to you by Young Goose Skincare! In this episode, host Amitay Eshel, the CEO of Young Goose, is joined by Robin Switzer.

Robin Switzer has built KetoCon into one of the most highly regarded health conferences in the U.S. It takes place in Austin, Texas, every year. The event typically hosts thousands of vendors, brands, speakers, influencers, and participants over three days to engage with other health-conscious people

Key Takeaways:

  • Most Americans have a serious problem with mastering delayed gratification as we live in the age of instant gratification and on-demand dopamine-producing activities. But what’s important to remember is that everything you are feeling, whether you feel energized or tired, is a result of all the micro-decisions you made in the past years. If you’re not happy with the result of those micro-decisions, you can still turn them around. It all starts with acquiring the knowledge on how to do that, first.
  • Being able to identify yourself within a community may be one of the ultimate hacks for improving your lifespan. The reason why is that when you become part of a community that is congruent with the lifestyle you want for yourself, it significantly reduces the amount of brainpower it takes for you to make a decision. This is because as humans, we naturally compare ourselves to those around us and if we strategically place ourselves around the people we want to be like and whose beliefs and values align with ours - we will naturally take the same decisions.
  • Most of us think of health or being healthy as being able to live as long as possible. We consider living another 40 years in pain as a better alternative to living another healthy 30 years. But the truth is that health is NOT simply living as long as possible. Health is about living well

What we discuss:

04:35: How did Robin decide to produce KetoCon?

09:34: What did Robin see in this business?

21:27: What is exciting about this year at KetoCon?

28:57: What is the structure of the conference?

35:00: How should guests approach the conference?

39:34: Should you purchase a VIP pass?

44:15: Should you stay in Austin?

48:12: Where to learn more about KetoCon?

01 Mar 2023Danijela Schenker: Microneedling, Softwave Therapy, and Collagen Overstimulation00:38:11

Welcome to another episode of the Biohacking Beauty podcast brought to you by Young Goose Skincare! In this episode, host Amitay Eshel, the CEO of Young Goose, is joined by Danijela Schenker. We discuss the different therapies for skin rejuvenation such as at-home micro-needling and softwave therapy.

She also explains why we should care for our skin sooner, her at-home approach to micro-needling, the downside of collagen overdosing, working on your skin from the inside out, and how to improve your skin barrier.

Danijela Schenker is a former ICU nurse for twenty years and nursing instructor, turned beauty biohacker, and health visionary, ten years ago. Optimizing beauty, health, and well-being is her passion.

Key Takeaways:

  • Beware of collagen overdose if you’re practicing at-home micro-needling. You need to reconsider the intervals at which you subject your skin to this treatment. Micro-needling uses thin needles to make tiny holes in the top layer of your skin. The damage helps stimulate your skin's healing process, so it produces more collagen and elastin. However, doing this too often without sufficient breaks in between will eventually result in an over-production of collagen that causes the tightening and thickening of your skin. This will cause your skin to stretch, thicken, and harden.
  • Are you working from the inside out - or the outside in? From gut health to cell senescence, there are biological processes in our body that are behind most skin issues. However, since we only see the symptoms of these inside problems on the outside of our bodies, i.e. our skin, the beauty industry is very much focused on the end results and what happens to the skin on a topical level.
  • The studies prove it: you only need to integrate these 2 simple ingredients in your skincare routine to repair your skin barrier - and upkeep it. First, you should use a moisturizer that contains ceramides as it restores the lipid composition of the skin. Ceramides are waxy lipids found in especially high concentrations in the stratum corneum. Another productive way to keep your skin barrier in top shape is to use humectants. They work by drawing water and binding it to the skin barrier. Products that contain hyaluronic acid, like Young Goose’s Adaptogenic HA Firming Boost Serum, keep your skin hydrated.

What we discuss:

01:16: How does Danijela perceive her clinic?

02:00: When did Danijela’s clinic open?

04:54: What are the core services Danijela’s clinic offers?

07:36: What other protocols are useful for skin rejuvenation?

12 Jul 2023Combating Sun Damage From The Inside Out00:19:26

Most of us know that protecting your skin from the sun's harmful rays is crucial for maintaining healthy skin. Unprotected exposure to the sun's ultraviolet rays can cause premature aging, wrinkles, sun spots, and can even increase your risk of skin cancer. While wearing SPF to protect your skin from sun damage is essential, did you know that other lifestyle choices we make can add another line of defense against the harmful effects of UV rays?

Welcome to another episode of the Biohacking Beauty podcast brought to you by Young Goose Skincare! In this episode, host Amitay Eshel, the CEO of Young Goose, discusses the topic of sun damage and sun protection, including why it's essential to understand how sun damage impacts our skin health. He covers the difference between UVA and UVB rays when it comes to how they impact our skin, and how the supplements we take and the foods we eat may help protect our skin from sun damage.

What we discuss:

[00:02:17] Understanding how sun damage impacts our skin health

[00:04:34] How antioxidants protect the skin

[00:06:34] Why vitamin E is crucial for skin health

[00:10:02] The fundamental role of diet and hygiene in skin health and sun protection

[00:14:11] Using supplements for sun protection

[00:17:34] Tips for embarking on a new supplement regimen

Key Takeaways:

  • The key culprits behind sun damage are UVA and UVB rays. UVB rays are primarily responsible for sunburn and direct DNA damage and reach only the outer layer of the skin. UVA rays have a longer wavelength and penetrate deeper into the skin to the dermis, causing long term damage and premature aging.
  • Antioxidants are powerful molecules that play a vital role in protecting our skin and body from oxidative stress caused by free radicals, which are a byproduct of sun exposure. Antioxidants work by donating an electron and stabilizing the free radicals, which prevents them from causing a chain reaction of damage to other cells.
  • Eating a balanced, nutrient rich, anti-inflammatory diet can greatly enhance our skin's ability to protect itself from sun damage. Fruits and vegetables that are high in antioxidants can provide an additional line of defense against the harmful effects of UV rays. Additionally, foods high in omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties and may help protect the skin from sun damage.

Most people think menopause is just about hot flashes and mood swings—but what if I told you it’s actually one of the biggest drivers of skin aging? From collagen loss to increased sensitivity, breakouts, and inflammation, hormonal shifts can make you look older, faster. And yet, no one is talking about it.

To uncover the real impact of menopause on skin health (and what you can do about it), I’m joined by Dr. Jessica Shepherd, an OB-GYN, menopause expert, and founder of Sanctum Med & Wellness. She’s on a mission to rewrite the menopause narrative, showing women how to take control of their skin, hormones, and longevity.

We also explore the connection between gut health, inflammation, and skin vitality, as well as the cutting-edge treatments and biohacking strategies that are changing the game for menopausal women.

20 Sep 2023Victor Sagalovsky: A Powerful Anti-Aging Biohacking You've Probably Never Used01:01:11

In the realm of health and wellness, revolutionary discoveries often require time and persistent effort. One such discovery, unraveling the profound effects of deuterium on aging and the benefits of deuterium-depleted water, has transformed our understanding of health and longevity. Deuterium, a natural element found in our bodies and environment, was first discovered in 1932 by Dr. Ure and his colleague. Despite its presence in our physiology, it has been found that our bodies should ideally have 25% less deuterium for optimal health. An excess of deuterium can cause damage to our bodies, a fact that has been overlooked in many scientific studies until now.

Deuterium disrupts the energy production process in our cells, leading to aging and a decrease in energy levels. Reducing deuterium levels in our bodies could potentially slow down the aging process and boost our energy production. Deuterium's impact on aging is not just limited to the cellular level, it also affects the structure of our DNA and collagen, two key components in the aging process.

Welcome to another episode of the Biohacking Beauty podcast brought to you by Young Goose Skincare! In this episode, host Amitay Eshel, the CEO of Young Goose, is joined by Victor Sagalovsky, founder cofounder and CEO of Litewater Scientific, the first and only super deuterium-depleted light water. Today we'll dive into the marvels of super deterium depleted water, the endogenous radiation damage theory, and his influential strides in wellness and longevity realm.

18 Jan 2023Dr. Molly Maloof: Biohacking for Women, Metabolic Flexibility, and Selecting Appropriate Biomarkers01:09:37

Welcome to another episode of the Biohacking Beauty podcast brought to you by Young Goose Skincare! In this episode, host Amitay Eshel, the CEO of Young Goose, is joined by Dr. Molly Maloof.

Dr. Maloof is the founder and CEO of Adamo Bioscience, a company pioneering the science of love. She provides personalized medicine to world-class entrepreneurs, investors, and technology executives in Silicon Valley.

Since 2012, she has worked as an advisor or consultant to over 50 companies in the digital health, consumer health, and biotechnology industries. She teaches a course on healthspan at the Medical School at Stanford University.

Key Takeaways:

  • Women have different biological processes in their bodies from men, such as the production of estrogen and other types of hormones as well as a menstrual cycle that is likely to impact their body’s ability to reap the benefits of certain biohacking protocols. They must consider this and adapt accordingly.
  • Women go through four different stages in their menstrual cycle where their bodies simply can’t handle the same consistent amount of stress, whether it is physical or emotional, at every stage of their cycle. As result, women may not be performing at their absolute best nor reaping the most benefits from their efforts to be in good health if they disregard their menstrual cycle. This is the complete opposite of men, who can take on stressors at any time and be able to push through.
  • Skin autofluorescence is a non-invasive biomarker often used in the medical field as a diagnostic tool for different health concerns, such as diabetes, heart disease, and cognitive impairment among other things. But what most people don’t know is that when your overall health is in top shape, skin autofluorescence is responsible for that glowing skin you have! Glowing of any kind whether it be your skin or your hair being glossy is an important biomarker for good health.

What we discuss:

04:30: About Dr. Maloof’s book

05:50: What themes does Dr. Maloof cover in her new book?

12:15: How should biohacking be approached by women?

In this episode of Biohacking Beauty, I sit down with Dr. Scott Sherr to uncover the fascinating connection between your skin and brain, a relationship most people don’t even realize exists. This conversation originally took place on The Smarter Not Harder Podcast, where Scott and I explored the skin-brain axis and how your skin is more than just a barrier, it’s an active communicator with your nervous system, influencing everything from inflammation to stress resilience and even cognitive function.

We also tackle some of the biggest misconceptions in skincare, like why hydration doesn’t actually come from the outside, how sun exposure impacts your skin at a cellular level, and the surprising ways senescent cells in your skin accelerate whole-body aging. Plus, we break down the latest science on hormones, collagen production, and microbiome health, and how all of these factors impact how your skin ages.

Dr. Scott Sherr is the host of the Smarter Not Harder Podcast and a physician specializing in health optimization, hyperbaric therapy, and longevity medicine. As the founder of Integrative HBOT and a leading expert in performance medicine, he helps individuals leverage cutting-edge science to enhance vitality, slow aging, and optimize brain and body function.

If you want to know how to extend your skin’s youthfulness beyond just skincare products, this is an episode you won’t want to miss!

17 Jan 2025Exfoliation Explained: The Science Behind Smooth Skin00:10:19

Most of us have heard of exfoliation, and you may already be incorporating this step into your routine. But did you know that exfoliation plays a pivotal role in keeping your skin radiant and healthy? Think of exfoliation as prepping a canvas before painting. Just like you wouldn't apply fresh paint on a wall without preparing it first, you shouldn't apply skincare products on a layer of dead skin cells.

Welcome to another episode of the Biohacking Beauty podcast brought to you by Young Goose Skincare! In this episode, host Amitay Eshel, the CEO of Young Goose, dives into an essential step in your skincare routine: exfoliation. He covers why exfoliation is crucial for maintaining healthy skin, and the difference between chemical and mechanical exfoliation. Plus, he shares the importance of understanding the needs of your skin.

What we discuss:

[00:02:25] Why skin cell turnover is crucial for maintaining healthy skin

[00:03:15] Chemical vs. mechanical exfoliation

[00:04:08] The benefits of proper exfoliation

[00:08:22] Why understanding the needs of your skin is essential

Key Takeaways:

  • Exfoliation plays an important role in enhancing the absorption and effectiveness of skincare products. By removing the layer of dead skin cells on the surface of your skin, exfoliation allows the active ingredients in skincare products to penetrate more deeply and work more effectively. This means that your moisturizers, serums, and treatments can better target and address specific skin concerns, resulting in improved overall skincare results.
  • There are two primary types of exfoliation: mechanical and chemical. Mechanical or physical exfoliation entails physically scrubbing the skin using an abrasive substance. In contrast, chemical exfoliation involves using ingredients such as acids or enzymes that dissolve the glue binding the dead skin cells together.
  • Understanding the specific requirements of your skin is vital for effective exfoliation. Oily skin, for instance, often faces issues like excessive dead skin cells and clogged pores. Frequent exfoliation can be beneficial in maintaining a clearer complexion for oily skin types. On the other hand, dry skin may require a gentler approach to exfoliation, as it tends to be more sensitive.

05 Jul 2023Dr. Sandra Kaufmann: Skin Aging at the Cellular Level01:07:02

Skin aging is a natural process that affects everyone as they grow older, however, there are several factors that can accelerate the aging process, including cellular degeneration. Our skin is composed of various types of cells, each playing a crucial role in maintaining its health and appearance. Understanding these cellular mechanisms can help us take steps to slow down the aging process and maintain healthier, more youthful-looking skin.

Welcome to another episode of the Biohacking Beauty podcast brought to you by Young Goose Skincare! In this episode, host Amitay Eshel, the CEO of Young Goose, is joined by Dr. Sandra Kaufmann to discuss the cellular causes of skin aging, and her work in developing the Kaufmann protocol. We’ll also cover why both internal and external care is necessary for optimizing skin health, and why mixing up your skincare can be beneficial for aging skin.

Dr. Sandra Kaufmann began her academic career in the field of cellular biology, earning a Master’s Degree from the University of Connecticut in Tropical Ecology and Plant Physiology. Turning to medicine, she received her medical Degree at the University of Maryland, and completed a residency and fellowship at Johns Hopkins in the field of pediatric anesthesiology. For the last five years she has been the Chief of Pediatric Anesthesia at the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, a nationally recognized center of excellence. Most recently, she was recognized as “Best in Medicine” by the American Health Council.

What we discuss:

[00:00] Dr. Sandra Kaufmann's work on cellular degeneration and aging can revolutionize skin care.

[06:28] Using molecules to affect aging pathways is the key to longevity.

[17:17] Improving skin health requires both internal and external care.

[22:12] Lactoferrin can help block Advanced glycation end products (AGEs) and clear them from the skin.

[32:31] Mixing up skincare is important for aging skin

[37:57] Hypoxic training can enhance mitochondrial function for high altitude climbing.

[48:24] Starting a longevity company to provide access to preventive medicine

[53:16] Tailored dosing strategy is important for longevity medicines

[1:03:40] Hyaluronic acid is an important molecule for skin health.

Key Takeaways:

  • When it comes to achieving and maintaining healthy, radiant skin, it's essential to adopt a comprehensive approach that includes both internal and external care. While topical treatments like injectables and Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapies can enhance skin appearance, internal care through supplements can play a pivotal role in protecting and repairing the skin from damage.
  • As we age, our skin undergoes various changes and requires different approaches to maintain its health and vitality. One effective strategy for aging skin is to mix up your skincare routine. This involves incorporating a range of products and techniques to address different concerns and adapt to the changing needs of your skin.
  • Addressing skin concerns like creepiness requires a combination of internal and external approaches. However, in order to stimulate collagen, it is important to provide the necessary nutrients for fibroblasts, the cells responsible for collagen production.

31 May 2023The Science Behind NAD+, the Link Between NAD+ and Skin Aging, and the Importance of Precursors00:22:10

Welcome to another episode of the Biohacking Beauty podcast brought to you by Young Goose Skincare! In this episode, host Amitay Eshel, the CEO of Young Goose, dives back into the world of NAD+, and discusses the science behind NAD+, its relationship with aging, and most importantly, how it can potentially transform your skincare routine.

NAD+ has been gaining a lot of attention recently in the skincare industry because of its ability to reverse cellular damage caused by aging and environmental stressors. As we age, the level of NAD+ in our bodies decreases, which can result in a decline in the efficiency of our cells' functions. This decline affects our skin's ability to produce collagen and elastin, leading to the formation of wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin.

Luckily, there are ways to boost NAD+ levels in the skin, and one of them is through skincare products that contain NAD+ precursors.

What we discuss:

[00:03:04] NAD+ is a crucial player in every person's body

[00:06:57] Two things that happen as we grow older

[00:09:21] Boosting NAD+ with supplements

[00:13:21] Why are NAD+ precursors necessary?

[00:16:22] Why your skin needs to be in repair mode

[00:18:55] How do we incorporate NAD+ in skincare?

[00:20:44] NAD+ is one of the most exciting molecules when it comes to longevity and anti-aging

Key Takeaways:

  • Simply using NAD+ in skincare products is not enough to reap its benefits because it cannot penetrate the skin barrier effectively. NAD+ precursors, on the other hand, are compounds that can increase the availability of NAD+ in the body by providing the building blocks to create it. NAD+ precursors such as nicotinamide riboside (NR) and nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) can help boost NAD+ levels in the skin.
  • The skin requires adequate amounts of NAD+ to carry out efficient DNA repair and regulate cellular metabolism. NAD+ is also essential for the production of energy required for cell division, proliferation, and differentiation, which are critical for proper skin renewal.
  • As we age, there is a rise in an enzyme called CD38. CD38 is an enzyme that is found on the surface of various cells in the body, and one of its main functions is to break down NAD+ into smaller components. When CD38 is produced at abnormally high levels, it can deplete cellular stores of NAD+, resulting in lower levels of NAD+ in the skin.

07 Mar 2025The Silent Killer Inside Your Cells (And How to Fight Back)00:18:27

Hey everyone, welcome back to Biohacking Beauty! Today, we’re exploring one of the most fundamental mechanisms of aging—telomeres. These nucleotide sequences at the ends of our chromosomes act as protective caps, preserving DNA integrity during cell division. However, each time a cell replicates, telomeres shorten, eventually leading to cellular senescence, dysfunction, or apoptosis.

In this solo episode, I’m breaking down the molecular mechanisms behind telomere shortening, how factors like oxidative stress, inflammation, and metabolic dysfunction accelerate the process, and, most importantly, what we can do to slow or even reverse this decline.

We’ll dive into the latest research on NAD metabolism, autophagy, telomerase activation, and epigenetic regulation, as well as practical interventions like targeted supplementation, lifestyle modifications, and advanced skincare strategies that support telomere stability.

If you’re serious about cellular longevity, DNA repair, and optimizing your skin health at the deepest level, this episode is a must-listen.

Let’s get into it!

I Also Discuss:

(01:33 - 02:15) What Are Telomeres and Why Do They Matter?

(03:42 - 04:19) The Hidden Danger of Cellular Aging

(08:48 - 09:12) Can You Actually Reverse Telomere Shortening?

(12:45 - 13:27) Why Your Skin Shows Signs of Aging First

32:03: How can we get glutathione levels up?

36:41: Why should someone be interested in the pre-care of molecules?

42:57: How to detoxify your body with supplements and topicals?

51:35: Where can you learn more about Dr. Shade?

Key Takeaways:

  • Humans tend to find two different types of mercury in our bodies. The first is Methylmercury, which is an organic form of mercury. It is the most common form of mercury in fish and is present in some types of fish at concentrations. The second kind is mercury which tends to be found in dental amalgam fillings. They are often used to fill cavities and are known to release a small amount of mercury vapor. Amalgam can also release small amounts of mercury vapor during chewing. Both types of mercury have the potential to impair human health.
  • Glutathione is an antioxidant produced in cells, mainly in the liver. It's comprised largely of three amino acids: glutamine, glycine, and cysteine. Glutathione levels in the body tend to reduce over time due to aging but can also be due to poor nutrition, environmental toxins, and stress. When your body is dealing with a high level of mercury toxicity, these glutathione levels decrease. This causes a domino effect of biological processes to kick off, predominantly telomeres shortening and cell senescence.
  • Mercury toxicity is causing you to age prematurely. When high levels of mercury are found in the body, this causes your body to release oxidative stress, which may stimulate the senescent cell cycle. If you can regenerate the high antioxidant production in the body, you can reverse this process and prevent the further production of senescent cells. You can achieve this by boosting your glutathione levels.

07 Jun 2023Understanding the Science of Collagen and its Role in Skin Health00:21:04

Welcome to another episode of the Biohacking Beauty podcast brought to you by Young Goose Skincare! In this episode, host Amitay Eshel, the CEO of Young Goose, covers everything you need to know about collagen, including how collagen changes as we age and what we can do to boost its production in order to maintain skin health. We also dive into some of the lifestyle choices that can impact collagen production, and what collagen-boosting products you can incorporate into your skincare regimen.

Collagen is the most abundant protein in our bodies, providing structure and strength to our skin, bones, tendons, ligaments, and other areas. As we age, the production of collagen in our body decreases, which leads to changes in the quality and quantity of collagen in our tissues. Luckily, there are ways to help to support the production of collagen in our skin.

What we discuss:

[00:00] Understanding the science of collagen and its role in skin health.

[03:13] Collagen is crucial for skin health and firmness

[06:02] Factors that damage collagen can lead to premature skin aging

[09:04] Boosting collagen production for healthy skin

[11:47] A full regimen for collagen maintenance and boosting

[14:18] Support skin health with proper nutrients, hydration, and sleep

[16:46] Collagen supplements can improve skin elasticity and hydration.

[19:22] Importance of understanding and setting realistic expectations when consuming collagen supplements

Key Takeaways:

  • Environmental factors can have an impact on collagen production, leading to premature skin aging. Sunlight exposure can result in wrinkles and sun spots, while blue light causes oxidative stress and inflammation. Unhealthy diet, lack of exercise, high stress levels, and insufficient sleep also contribute to collagen degradation.
  • Type 1 collagen is a crucial component when it comes to skin health. This type of collagen is the most abundant in the skin and provides structural support to the skin's tissues. It is important to incorporate Type 1 collagen in our skincare routine to maintain healthy and youthful-looking skin.
  • Although collagen supplements can improve skin elasticity and hydration, it is important to understand and set realistic expectations when consuming collagen supplements. In addition to supplements, we can support collagen synthesis through diet, topical products, professional treatments, and lifestyle modifications.

Welcome to another episode of the Biohacking Beauty podcast brought to you by Young Goose Skincare! In this episode, host Amitay Eshel, the CEO of Young Goose, is joined by Dr. Scott Sherr. Dr. Scott Sherr is a Board-Certified Internal Medicine Physician Certified to Practice Health Optimization Medicine (HOMe) and a specialist in Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT). He is the founder of Integrative HBOT, a worldwide telemedicine practice where he consults and educates patients and clinics using his novel approach to hyperbaric therapy that includes cutting edge and dynamic HBOT protocols, comprehensive laboratory testing (using the HOMe framework), targeted supplementation, personal practices, synergistic technologies, and more.

Dr. Scott is also COO of Troscriptions, a line of precision dosed, pharmaceutical grade, and physician formulated buccal troches that address the many bottlenecks we all experience along the path to optimizing our health.

  • Hyperbaric therapy can be used for specific inflammatory skin conditions because of its ability to decrease inflammation in the body. There are also studies that show that hyperbaric therapy can increase collagen production in the skin.
  • The first thing that happens in a hyperbaric chamber is the reversal of low oxygen states, so more oxygen is sent to the tissue. This is why hyperbaric therapy can help save the tissue on someone with an acute injury.
  • When you leave a hyperbaric chamber, you have a period of about 30 minutes where you have more oxygen circulation, and as a result you can leverage that oxygen in various ways.

12 Apr 2024NAD 101: Unlocking The Secrets To Youthful Skin00:15:29

Are you currently using NAD in your skincare routine? As we age, the levels of NAD in our bodies naturally decline and play a factor in both decreased energy levels and more visible fine lines and wrinkles. The good news? You can make a major impact on your NAD levels with simple lifestyle changes like exercising regularly, eating a balanced diet rich in foods like fish and vegetables, as well as minimizing alcohol consumption.

In this bonus episode of the Biohacking Beauty podcast, Amitay, CEO of Young Goose, talks through what NAD is and why it should be utilized in your skincare routine. Amitay also discusses how UV external aggressors like UV rays, pollution, and blue light threaten to deplete our NDA and harm our DNA.

Listen in as we learn that skincare and beauty are not just the foundation of outside appearances, but the ability to foster an internal, holistic, and healthy environment where your skin can thrive despite the challenges that may be posed by the outside world.

What we discuss:

(01:40) An introduction to NAD - the powerhouse molecule that has been a game changer for health, wellness and maintaining youthful, radiant skin

(3:35) NAD and why environmental aggressors break down our skin, showing signs of aging

(6:06) The impact of NAD in our expression of DNA and how it helps fuel enzymes to repair damage

(8:18) DNA starvation causes dysfunction in the skin

(11:19) How Young Goose is revolutionizing skincare through NAD

03 May 2023Rachel Varga: Environmental Stressors, Toxins, and Extrinsic Aging00:52:58

Did you know that our bodies are constantly addressing oxidative stress and damage from free radicals? Environmental toxins through air, water, and lighting all impact skin health, and understanding how these toxins contribute to skin aging can allow us to make lifestyle choices to prevent extrinsic aging.

Welcome to another episode of the Biohacking Beauty podcast brought to you by Young Goose Skincare! In this episode, host Amitay Eshel, the CEO of Young Goose, is joined by Rachel Varga to discuss how environmental stressors and toxins impact the skin, and what we can do about it. We also cover why it’s important to purify the water you use, the skin conditions that can arise from toxin exposure, and where we are most often exposed to heavy metals.

Rachel Varga is a double board-certified aesthetic nurse with over 10 years of experience working in aesthetic medicine and providing non-surgical rejuvenation treatments. Rachel is the host of a top 20 podcast, the Rachel Varga podcast, and an international clinical trainer for other physicians and nurses. She is also an award-winning author in the fields of regenerative and aesthetic nursing, as well as an executive board member and peer reviewer for the Plastic and Aesthetic Nursing Journal. Rachel is one of the first to combine functional techniques, biohacking, and modern medical aesthetics by teaching patients how to tune into what the skin is telling them about their internal health.

What we discuss:

00:04:47: Rachel’s paper on extrinsic aging

00:09:29: The body is constantly addressing oxidative stress and damage

00:13:32: We tend to get the most impact from heavy metals from the air

00:17:38: Exposure to toxins can result in skin conditions such as hyperpigmentation and acne

00:21:15: When you release your toxins, your brain also functions better

00:27:12: Purifying the water you use can reduce levels of heavy metals and toxins in the body

00:30:32: Electromagnetic mitigation for skin health and slowing aging is imperative

00:34:50: Constant use of electronic devices can result in poor blood flow

00:41:25: Companies start using lower quality ingredients in order to improve their margins

00:45:44: Rachel’s seasonal skin camp programs

Key Takeaways:

  • The air is a huge contributing factor to heavy metal toxicity, which is why air purifiers are important to have in your home to reduce exposure to volatile organic compounds.
  • Double cleansing the skin can help get rid of dirt, debris, pollution, and makeup before actually cleansing the skin.
  • In addition to environmental toxins, emotional and spiritual toxins can also impact our skin health. This is why when we go through times of stress or trauma, the skin will often display that stress.
