Captain Mike Weinhofer shares some of the crazy stories from being a charter captain in Key West Florida and discusses some of the rich history of the area. Mike Weinhofer began fishing with my father at the age of 5 in New Jersey where he learned to fish on his charter boat. He fished numerous tournaments together in many incredible locations and soon Mike and his father shared a love of fishing. He caught his first sailfish on the Gone Fishin out of Islamorada, FL when he was 7 and was hooked for life. He told his father that someday he would live in the Florida Keys and fish for a living. Twenty-eight years ago, he made that dream come true, moved to Key West, and began chartering his first light tackle fishing boat. He was living the dream, fishing from Venezuela to Cuba, the Bahamas to Maryland, the Outer Banks, and all over Mexico. Capt. 01 Oct 2023 | Is Cheating Killing Fishing Tournaments? Walleye Fishing Roundtable | Bigwater Fishing Podcast #65 | 01:25:33
In this podcast, we discuss the recent cheating scandals that have rocked the world of competitive fishing, and what it means for the future of fishing tournaments. We talk pro walleye anglers Joe Okada and Brett King along with Denny Fox from the Aim Pro Walleye Series to get their insights on the problem of cheating and how to prevent it in the future. We also discuss the impact that cheating has on the sport of fishing as a whole. When anglers cheat, it undermines the integrity of the sport and makes it difficult for honest anglers to compete fairly. It also damages the reputation of the sport and can deter new anglers from participating. It is important to remember that the vast majority of anglers are honest and ethical. However, the recent fishing tournament cheating scandals shows that there are a small number of anglers who are willing to cheat to win. It is important to take steps to prevent cheating in the future, in order to protect the integrity of the sport and ensure that everyone has a fair chance to compete. Capt. Ross Robertson has made his complete living chasing walleye as a full time professional angler for more than 20 years. 10 Apr 2022 | Jay Siemens - Outdoors YouTuber - Uncut Angling | 00:55:35
The search for a perfect picture is like the pursuit of a flawless fish – a seemingly impossible task packed with enough challenge to bring photographers and anglers back day after day. It is this exhilarating chase of perfection that drives Jay’s work. Armed with a rod in one hand and a camera in the other, Jay’s love for photography was born on lakes, ponds, and wherever his chase for the next bite would take him. His desire to digitally represent the world around him began with 50” Muskies and 12-lb Walleyes. Jay recognizes that a good camera is to photography what a good rod is to fishing – a necessary tool that is nearly useless without a deep and balanced understanding of the craft. Jay’s keen eye for visual composition and his experience working professionally in the field provide him with the foundation to succeed in a talent filled industry. In the fall of 2011, Jay’s camerawork helped launched the birth of Uncut Angling. Uncut has gained 200,000+ subscribers and over 45,000,000 views on Youtube. It provides viewers an exceptionally raw and real perspective, capturing the chase of trophy fish. In the Spring of 2018 Jay formed Thrive Visuals, his own production company specializing in the outdoor world. Specifically fishing and hunting content creation. They have had the honour of working with such brands as Travel Manitoba, Honda, and Alumacraft Boats. At the same time as Thrive Visuals was launched Jay decided it was time for another creative outlet and decided to put more focus into producing content for his personal YouTube channel. The channel quickly rose to over 40,000 subscribers and is an outlet for him to share and teach of his loves of fishing, hunting, videography, and everything in between. Jay recently made the move to Kenora, Ontario where he spends his days fishing in NW Ontario, Manitoba, and beyond. Jay prides himself on creating content that is suitable for all ages. Capt. Ross Robertson has made his complete living chasing walleye as a full time professional angler for more than 20 years. 27 Dec 2020 | Leon Hanson - Bamboo Fly Rod Maker and Centerpin Reel Pioneer | 00:57:20
Leon Hanson started building bamboo fly rods rods in the late 1970’s. Since then he has quietly built some of the finest rods in the country. He is a rod builder’s builder. After previously being one if the pioneers of center pin reels he moved on to his next challenge, building the some of the best and most desired bamboo fly rods in the world. He has always attacked a project seeking the best possible information from the experts, and then proceeds to improve upon it. His intuitive thinking in resolving a problem has made him famous in his Boone & Crocket hunting records, the invention and production of the now highly sought after Hanson centerpin reel and of course, his rods. Having spent considerable time with Hoagy Carmichael exploring the craft, he began professionally building fly rods. The quality of his work was so notable; it brought mention in Ernie Schwiebert’s “Trout”. Ernie spoke of Garrison, then Carmichael and then Hanson as a line of succession. Leon’s depth of thinking applied to the construction of his rods, is worthy of recognition. His tapers cast sublimely, as only an expert caster can translate into bamboo. Leon’s production is very limited and his rods seldom appear on the used rod market.

Joe Cermele has been in fishing media full time since graduating college in 2005. He’s authored three books, and written more articles, blogs, scripts, and voiceovers than he could count. Joe currently hosts the Cut & Retie Podcast. He was the host of the Hook Shots video series and podcast, and most recently the host of B-Side Fishing, Das Boat, and the Bent podcast on the MeatEater Network. Listen to the Cut & Retie Podcast https://open.spotify.com/show/6yahhM4T0pZBq0h3CkQxeg Cermele was born into a fishing family. His grandparents on his dad’s side always had a boat and spent lots of time at local lakes and rivers. His grandparents on his mom’s side owned a bait and tackle shop in Trenton, New Jersey. Growing up, Cermele had two loves—fishing and music. He also loved to write, and when he finally realized his metal band wasn’t going to be the next Metallica, he decided to marry his love of writing and fishing while studying journalism in college. What has really helped drive Cermele’s career is a genuine interest in all types of fishing. He’ll soak live shiners for bass one day, fly fish for trout the next, and fire poppers at tuna the day after that. He’s traveled the world chasing myriad species, but for him the reward of those trips is less about catching a fish and more about spending time with anglers from all walks of life, learning what they do, and relaying their wisdom to his readers, viewers, and listeners. Cermele lives in Eastern Pennsylvania with his wife and two children, close to his beloved Delaware River and Jersey Shore. Capt.
