"Doc" Bruce Samson has multiple major wins to his credit and is known as the Devil's Lake Master having won the PWT on the lake twice. He also won the MWC National Walleye Championship in 1986 and the RCL National Walleye Championship in 2002. Doc also has 8 major walleye tournament wins including the MWC twice, the PWT 4 times, the AIM once, and the FLW/RCL once.

Bruce "Doctor Sonar" Samson has a winning formula that has worked for him on both lakes and rivers; this formula includes using today's technology to his advantage on the water. GPS and Sonar technology are common tools in competitive walleye fishing, but few walleye pros have blended the technology with aerial photos, satellite elevation charts, and custom designed contour maps. Doc is one that does this and he does it well with his proven techniques on the tournament trail.

Doc possesses the knowledge and experience to improve others and was honored with the Professional Walleye Trail Norb Wallock Memorial Teaching Award, the "Top PWT Teaching Pro" in 2004.

During a long career spanning the most revolutionary years in sportfishing history, Al Lindner ranks among the most renowned leaders in the fishing industry. He continues to fish avidly for all freshwater fish, averaging about 180 days a year on the water, and is hailed as one of the world’s best all-around anglers.

As the host of Lindner’s Angling Edge and Fishing Edge television series, Al remains immensely popular as one of the best-recognized angling authorities in North America. Al, however, has always worn many hats, and even his most avid fans may not realize the extent of his past and present involvement with all aspects of the fishing business. Al is a two-time Bassmaster tournament winner. Al played an important part in developing and promoting many angling concepts, procedures, products and language that today’s anglers often take for granted. With his brother Ron, he helped formulate a classification system for categorizing lake, river, and reservoir types. He is also famous for patterning fish response by calendar season.

Al, Ron, James, Daniel and Bill Lindner are the creative forces behind Lindner Media and their wide variety of award-winning productions, and have a long and storied history in the fishing business. The Lindners sold their stakes in Lindy Tackle in 1973, and in In-Fisherman in 1998. Pro walleye angler Joe Okada stops by the podcast to talk about the fishing industry and his move to H2H fishing and thoughts on their new tournament format.

Joe has been focused on improving as an angler since he was a child. He began working at the local bait shop and running his guide service right out of high school as he prepared to compete at the tour level by the age of 24. CHRISTOPHER VANDERGOOT is the director of the Great Lakes Acoustic Telemetry Observation System and associate professor at Michigan State University. Prior to his current position, Chris served as a research fishery biologist at the Lake Erie Biological Station, Great Lakes Science Center, US Geological Survey located in Sandusky, Ohio, supervisor of fish biology at the Sandusky Fisheries Research Station, and a fisheries biologist on Lake Erie with the Ohio Department of Natural Resource, Division of Wildlife. As a fisheries researcher and biologist, he is interested in understanding and quantifying the population dynamics of native Great Lakes fish populations, particularly Lake Erie percids. He primarily focuses on conducting field-based studies that describe the ecological and demographic processes of wild fish populations for stock assessment modeling purposes. Specific areas of interest include examining stock discreteness, rates of iteoparity (i.e., frequency of reproductive cycles), spawning site fidelity, spawning phenology, migratory behavior, and estimating mortality rates (i.e., fishing and natural). He has also conducted numerous studies evaluating the efficiency and performance of fishery-independent sampling gears and methodologies. Chris received his bachelor’s degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and Statue University, his master’s degree from Tennessee Technological University and doctorate from Michigan State University. Tom Keenan is a professional angler who grew up on the beautiful shores of Little Bay de Noc in Upper Michigan so his passion for fishing started at a young age. Keenan fished his first tournament in 1989. He teamed up with his brother Mark and took second place at their first Masters Walleye Circuit (MWC) Event. This competition inspired him to get a college degree and land a job in the fishing industry. Keenan has fished tournaments for over 30 years and has accumulated various titles along the way. He has won Team of the Year twice with the MWC, was a three-time RCL/FLW Angler of the Year and won the National Walleye Trail (NWT) Angler of the Year title in 2019. He surpassed a major milestone in 2016 having made over one million dollars in career earnings. His career milestone win came in 2003 when he won the RCL Championship and earned 300,000 dollars for this single event. He is the all-time career earner on the RCL tour and currently is second for earnings on the NWT Trail. Keenan worked for Gander Mountain for over 27 years and was a store manager for one of the highest volume stores in the company for 20-plus years. He continues to perform seminars and speaking events throughout the Midwest and has always been willing to instruct anglers of all skill levels. Capt. On this episode of the Bigwater Fishing Podcast Ross welcomes Marshal Yanda. Marshal Yanda is a former American football offensive lineman who played 13 years with Baltimore and was an 8-time Pro-Bowler. He played college football at the University of Iowa, and was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the third round of the 2007 NFL Draft. He spent his entire 13-year career with the Ravens.

Travis Hartman is administrator of the  @OhioDNR  Lake Erie fish management program.

Hartman leads the Sandusky and Fairport Harbor research stations, which assesses and manages fisheries in Lake Erie’s Western and Central basins and their tributary streams. Hartman has worked as a fisheries biologist for the ODNR Division of Wildlife’s Sandusky Fish Research Unit since 2003.

Johnnie Candle owns and operates one of Devils Lake’s premier guide services and comes highly recommended walleye anglers. His travels as a touring fishing professional have taught him a lot and his passion toward sharing what he has learned makes him a great choice for a fishing guide.

Johnnie calls Devils Lake, North Dakota his home body of water. To say Devils Lake has undergone some change would be an understatement as large as the lake itself.
In the past 25 years, Devils Lake has more than tripled in size. While this wreaked havoc on the citizens of the surrounding communities, it has been a blessing in disguise for the fishing.
With the high water came thousands of acres of new habitat. Flooded buildings, farm equipment, rock piles and road beds are now home to the walleye, pike, white bass, and perch that once roamed the featureless basin of the old Devils Lake.

He's also known for Walleye University, a series of seminars and DVDs.

Gary Roach, known deservedly as “Mr. Walleye,” was born and raised on the shores of Mission Lake, Minnesota. He started fishing off the dock when he was three or four years old. Jeremy has been fishing since he was old enough to hold a rod and reel. From an early age his passion for fishing has never stopped growing. He has an education from Gustavus Adolphus College (Biology/Business) and Bemidji State University (Education). Throughout the summers of his college years, Jeremy was a fishing guide in northern Minnesota, specializing in musky fishing. Upon graduating from college, he dove head first into the sports fishing world, and has been there ever since. Since then Jeremy has worked in almost every element of the business: magazine sales, television sales, magazine writing and editing, television editing and producing, tournament organization, still photography, videography and on-camera talent to name a few of the hats he has worn. Jeremy loves to catch anything that swims and tries to take full advantage of the best bite going. Given the time, he loves going searching for new water off the beaten path. Leon Hanson started building bamboo fly rods rods in the late 1970’s. Since then he has quietly built some of the finest rods in the country. He is a rod builder’s builder. After previously being one if the pioneers of center pin reels he moved on to his next challenge, building the some of the best and most desired bamboo fly rods in the world. He has always attacked a project seeking the best possible information from the experts, and then proceeds to improve upon it. His intuitive thinking in resolving a problem has made him famous in his Boone & Crocket hunting records, the invention and production of the now highly sought after Hanson centerpin reel and of course, his rods. Having spent considerable time with Hoagy Carmichael exploring the craft, he began professionally building fly rods. The quality of his work was so notable; it brought mention in Ernie Schwiebert’s “Trout”. Ernie spoke of Garrison, then Carmichael and then Hanson as a line of succession. Leon’s depth of thinking applied to the construction of his rods, is worthy of recognition. His tapers cast sublimely, as only an expert caster can translate into bamboo. Leon’s production is very limited and his rods seldom appear on the used rod market.

Brett King is from Hager City, WI and has been fishing tournaments for over 25 years! Being a highly accomplished tournament fisherman, Brett has some pretty impressive wins under his belt including wins in the NWT, AIM Walleye Series, and FLW tour. In addition, Brett took the NWT Angler of the Year title in 2018. When Brett is not fishing walleye tournaments, he is spending time with his family and he is also an avid hunter and ice fisherman. Brett’s son is following in this dad’s footsteps of tournament angling where he presently fishes for bass at the collegiate level. Brett also attends many boat shows in the off season. Brett’s home body of water is the Mississippi River which he says is also his favorite body of water to fish. He says he mainly fishes Pool 3 and Pool 4. Brett McComas is the main man for  @Target Walleye  He was discovered in Brainerd, MN after years of wondering how in the heck people break into the fishing biz. He’s in it now, but still can’t answer that question…. Brett is one of those guys who majored in marketing, only because there was no such thing as a “fishing degree” at the time. He has a strong passion for all things fishing and is dedicated to educating people new to the sport

Nicknamed "The Prodigy" Brandon Palaniuk is one of the most successful anglers on the Bassmaster Elite Series in the last decade. He was the B.A.S.S. Nation Championship winner in 2010 and 2017 Bassmaster Angler of the Year. He has five Elite wins. In 2021, Brandon had two Top 10s in the Elites and won the Bassmaster Northern Open at James River. His grandparents on his dad’s side always had a boat and spent lots of time at local lakes and rivers. His grandparents on his mom’s side owned a bait and tackle shop in Trenton, New Jersey. He also loved to write, and when he finally realized his metal band wasn’t going to be the next Metallica, he decided to marry his love of writing and fishing while studying journalism in college. What has really helped drive Cermele’s career is a genuine interest in all types of fishing. He’ll soak live shiners for bass one day, fly fish for trout the next, and fire poppers at tuna the day after that.
