Back in the golden days at NBC when Johnny Carson ruled the network, Shelley was an NBC Page which landed her in the Tonight Show studio listening to entertainment history. We say “listening” because she spent the majority of her time with her back to the stage.

The NBC Page program (think Kenneth on 30 Rock) was basically a management training program at the network. Eventually, Shelley was writing successfully for the peacock. There’s some great stories about her time with Peter Marshall and the Hollywood Squares. And you can hear Randy's mind get blown as Shelly shares the secret about the frozen turkeys in the game show Supermarket Sweep. (spoiler alert….they weren’t real).

Music and entertainment are in her blood. This week’s special guest on Big Conversations, Little Bar with Patrick Evans and Randy Florence is someone who in her half-dozen years in the Coachella Valley has become a desert sensation. Her name is Kellee McQuinn, but many people know her best as DJ Mod Girl.

Her relationship with Palm Springs began as a girl in the 1980s after her BFF and soulmate – her grandfather – relocated from New Jersey and purchased legendary trombonist and band leader Tommy Dorsey’s home in Old Las Palmas. She would continue to visit family for many years and eventually she never made it back to live on the beach. Since the early 2000’s, McQuinn founded and has executive produced and co-authored a curriculum of children’s educational programming on television called KidTribe. Wanting to try her hand at something new, she rediscovered herself and has emerged as DJ Mod Girl, creating the soundtrack to hundreds of major events and get togethers across the region, as well as hosting a local radio show.

He's got a pretty cherry gig for a guy who was a banker in Cleveland, Ohio and blindly moved to California not knowing if that might work out. The inaugural season of Big Conversations, Little Bar couldn't have been as successful as it was without the tremendous help of the shows Producer, John McMullen. So, it seemed appropriate that Patrick Evans and Randy Florence learn a little bit more about John and the tremendous career he's had in both the Radio and Streaming platforms. 

John’s career started at his uncle’s radio station as a pre-teen and within just a few years, John was being recognized for his work building his high school’s radio station. By his senior year in high school he had become the youngest program director of a major market music station in America. But it was a tragedy to a mentor of John’s that really shaped the direction of his career. 

He was there at the dawning of streaming audio and video, then again with satellite radio, propelling him to become a pioneering trailblazer in the age of digital broadcast content. You’ll hear those stories along with how John came to the Coachella Valley, ultimately launching his own radio stations and streaming network.

Jimmy Francisco has spent the past three decades in the Greater Palm Springs community with his hands in a lot of different things that have given him the opportunity to become a friend to many and a jack of many trades.

His youth sports program involvement while in San Diego at college came home to the desert with him and he has spent many years leading girls and now both boys and girls youth soccer programs to great success.
