15 Dec 2023175. Dr. Jeffrey Mishlove – Parapsychologist / Host, New Thinking Allowed / Author – Being Skeptical, not Scoffing01:03:01

Welcome back to Behind Greatness. We are joined by Jeffrey Mishlove at his home in New Mexico. Jeffrey was the first and still only Parapsychologist who was conferred a PhD (in 1980) in that field of study. He grew up in a religious family – and a family unbeknownst to young Jeffrey at the time – that was also steeped in mystical tradition. We discuss his path to his calling that was kickstarted by a couple of transcendental dreams. He was a man whose interests were transformed from studying the negative forms of human deviance (criminality) to the positive forms of human deviance. We learn about the story of his mentor Arthur M. Young, the inventor of the helicopter and cosmologist and astrologer. We discuss skeptics vs scoffers, ESP, the perpetual game of hide and seek, cosmic choices after death, the artistic endeavour and the importance of investigating areas of high strangeness. The universe reaches out when you are striving to be the best person you can be.

If you enjoyed this one, you may appreciate these conversations with other parapsychologists: Loyd Auerbach (ep. 167) Dianne Hennacy (ep.113), Sharon Rawlette (ep.99)

For Rudy, part 1, please have a listen to episode #179.

Welcome back to Behind Greatness. We are back with Rudy. Rudy is a pre-eminent expert on black holes and a world-renowned Astrophysicist from Harvard, practising in the field since the mid-1960s. He is also the co-Founder of FREE / CCRI (see co-Founder past guests Rey Hernandez & Mary Rodwell) and also the Editor in Chief of the Journal of Cosmology.

We begin in the deep end with Rudy on this talk. We discuss his research experience and scientific exploration and the modern realities of getting ahead of the current science. He describes how the current belief in dark matter is incorrect, his discovery of the cluster of planets, the importance of MECOs (magnetospheric eternally collapsing objects) vs the classical definition of black holes. And that’s just the start. We discuss his friend’s (astronaut) Edgar Mitchell’s mystical experience in space in the 1970s, his desire to get NASA explore this with him, the experience of shared animal and human consciousness in space, our thoughts in the quantum field and the importance of empathy as a driver for the universe. We discuss Rudy’s desire for academics to mathematically study the lights emitted by ufos and for establishing intellectual academic research studies in this field, his belief in non-human intelligence and the wish that we open our minds to the wisdom of the universe.

… to be continued…

See earlier episodes with Rudy’s FREE/CCRI co-Founders Rey Hernandez (ep 153, 154) & Mary Rodwell (ep 149). See also Michael Masters (ep. 184) @ Montana Tech University, Diana Pasulka (ep 142) & Dean Radin (ep 122).

21 Jan 2025206. Dr. Salima Ikram – Egyptologist / Archeologist / Author – Co-Ruling of Felines and Humans00:42:54

Dr. Salima Ikram is an Egyptologist and Archeologist.

Thanks for joining Behind Greatness. We recorded this chat “coincidentally” on the opening day of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), October 16 2024. Salima graciously joined us from Cairo to have this conversation that day. Salima decided on Egyptology at age 8 and “hasn’t grown up since”. We learn about experimental archeology, puppy farms, slavery, cattle vs elephants and Egyptian cocktails. Salima brings us through her fascination with mummification, felines and their majesty, “chatting with the dead” and how death is viewed in the East. And more…

A fun, magical cat … uhm, we mean chat. Or do we? .

See previous episodes referenced: Allan Savory (ep 138) , Jack Horner (ep 159), Andrea Lani (ep 205 re the feline)

25 May 2023155. Stephan A. Schwartz – Futurist / Scientist / Remote Viewing Experimentalist / Author / Documentarian – Being Tuned In01:17:36

Thanks for joining us again at Behind Greatness. We are joined today by Futurist and Scientist, Stephan Schwartz at his home in Washington State. Stephan is not a theorist and he’s not a philosopher. He’s an experimentalist who works with objectively verifiable data. Stephan was a young hot-shot screenwriter attending parties with the who’s who in the culture scene in NYC in the 1960s, until his life took a curious, fantastic turn. He brings us through a story that includes 5 focused years studying and researching Edgar Cayce's work in Virginia, researching for US Chief of Naval operations, speech writing for an American president, running remote viewing experiments with subjects around the world (starting years before the CIA even began its remote viewing program with Russel Targ) and being one of the first to write about UAPs in the 70s. We learn about his uncovering of important ancient wonders of the world in Egypt in the 1970s using remote/distance viewing protocols for archeological discoveries, about documenting a similar “Sea Quest” project with Leonard Nimoy (of Spock fame) as his narrator and about heading his own funded remote viewing lab, Mobius. And, he’s a novelist.

Important to note that Stephan prefers non-local perception to remote viewing. And you’ll understand why. To be cont’d …

For previous guests re Remote Viewing, check out Russell Targ (ep 80), Dean Radin (ep 122) and Courtney Brown (ep 131).

24 Mar 202147. Sue Falsone – Founder, Structure & Function Education / Former Head Athletic Trainer, LA Dodgers / Author - Bringing Joy to Others00:45:54

Sue was born and bred in Buffalo, New York. She developed a desire for a career in healthcare and pursued studies in NY and North Carolina and when her life took a turn, so did she. Off to Arizona for no reason at all and very little money to her name, she started a journey with a little bit of Billy Joel and whole lot of hustle. After volunteering quite a bit of time at a clinic, her employer and her patients started to take note of her work ethic and her authentic efforts to help heal others. Fast forward a bit, she was hired as the Head Athletic Trainer for the LA Dodgers. The first woman to hold this position in any of the 4 major professional sports leagues she also credits mentors along the way to helping her learn, develop – and deal with her baby-giraffe. She set a course where today she has worked with all major professional leagues, in addition a stint with the men’s US National Soccer Team. Today, as an entrepreneur and pioneer in her field she is able to reflect with us on what is really important for her in life … including the exploration of Music-Sue.

23 Feb 2025208. Antonio Cupo – TV / Film Actor, Producer – Being Rooted01:08:39

We are sitting down with Antonio Cupo at his home in Vancouver. Antonio grew up in Vancouver and early in his career he spent many years in Italy as a lead actor in one of the most popular TV drama shows in Italian TV history – Elisa di Rivombrosa. But, that was just a start. We explore some great human themes in our conversation – the meaning of “immedesimarsi”, using “as ifs” to explore, performing the experience while reliving it, acting from pictures in your head, the power in losing the need to make money, grandmothers being shot at and a beautiful story about a guy in the rain looking for a coffee.

With art comes a lot of pain.

11 May 2022106. Kenneth Oppel – Best Selling Novelist - Chasing After the Wonder00:44:49

Kenneth joins us from his home in Toronto. He is an award winning and best selling author of numerous novels for young readers. He is famed for writing Airborn, the Silverwing Trilogy and now his latest novels, Bloom and its sequels, Hatch and Thrive. This was a fun conversation. He grew up on Vancouver Island on the Pacific coast and spent a few uncomplicated, happy pre-teen years in Halifax, on the Atlantic. Kenneth wanted to be a writer from a very young age, being pig-headed about his vocation from the very beginning. We naturally delve into themes that are important to us on Behind Greatness. Kenneth explains how childhood experiences run parallel throughout our lives, informing also our decisions today. He chats with us about taking pleasure in creation and the quiet, solitary, undramatic process that he invests in to find that pleasure. We discuss the power of encouragement as a lifeblood to pursuing creation and the importance of listening to dreams (encouragement: so easy a word and so elusive for many of us). And, we hark back to a reference from episode 24 with Mike Narducci regarding creativity – to Kenneth existing as a simmering well.

“There are fewer things more powerful than an idea.” Indeed.

26 Jan 202291. Edoardo Ghignone – Founder, President – LTx / Bon Vivant – Putting Your Soul on the Table00:43:40

Today we are joined by Edoardo Ghignone, who lives in The Hague, Netherlands. He is the founder of a consultancy named LTx that works with C-Suite leadership teams of large corporate organizations across Europe. Originally from Milan, Edoardo was brought up in a family that ran a manufacturing business in the city for 75 years. He describes his parental influences: an artisan father and a mother too fast for the world. He lived an early adult life devoted to learning languages, travelling, working in different countries and having fun. He brings us to the point in his life where he decided that he needed to put his “soul on the table”. From there, we explore his thoughts on the beauty of caressing your ideas, trusting your intuition, and the importance of feeling. We also discuss a unique psychic ability that he uncovered later in his life and how he incorporates this into his understanding of inter-relatedness. And we hear about how wasting time is a direct input for learning and the creative process … playing cards, sipping wine and listening to elders through mountain side trips.

06 Oct 202175. Dr. Indre Viskontas – Neuroscientist / Opera Singer & Director / Podcaster / Author – Bending Time Through Music01:00:52

Indre joins us today from San Francisco. Growing up in Toronto she moved to California (for good) as a young adult to figure out her path as an Opera singer, while also on scholarship as a budding neuroscientist. We learn about her evolution as an artist and as a sought-after science communicator … she also hosts two podcasts: “Cadence” since 2017 and the widely acclaimed “Inquiring Minds” since 2013. Indre shares her thoughts on the necessity of facing the “stuck” as part of the creative process and on viewing creativity as a behaviour and an act. Indre addresses how we are all knowledgeable in music in a sense – as either listeners or performers. We also explore her how musicians are able to bend time. And, for good measure, we sprinkle in some talk about remote viewing as a phenomenon she investigated as part of her work on the Oprah Winfrey Network. A melodic discussion to say the least.

05 May 202153. Riane Eisler JD, PhD(h) – President, Center for Partnership Studies / Author / Speaker – Building a World that Supports Capacity for Caring, Creativity & Consciousness00:51:05

We sit down with Riane Eisler, an accomplished researcher, author, professor and public speaker. Residing in Southern California, Riane briefly describes her experience as a Holocaust survivor as a little girl and her voyage to North America. In this discussion we break away from our tradition approach to conversation as we focus on Riane’s life’s work: ie. on Partnership systems. We discuss domination systems that have both women and men live and operate in a world that deprives them of their full humanity. We touch on consumerism and weapons of mass distraction. And most importantly, we learn about the characteristics of the original partnership societies where the cooperation of the feminine and the masculine produces a society where art and creativity are fundamental by-products.

15 Jun 2022111. Dr. Bruce Lipton – Pioneer in Epigenetics, Cell Biologist, International Speaker – Breaking Through Your Programs01:11:13

Bruce joins us from his home in California. Bruce was a pioneer cell biologist and one of the few scientists in the world working with cloning stem cells back in the late 1960s. And he dared asking questions. During his early research work at Stanford, he started to realize that what scientists were learning and teaching others about genetics and genetic determinism was faulty. He came to understand that we are in fact the masters, not the victims of our genes. Ostracized by his peers early on for his pioneering work, Bruce was finally vindicated when 23 years later in the early 1990s, his work in Epigenetics became recognized by modern science. Bruce discusses at length with us the importance of understanding the programs that we are inculcated with early on in our lives and how these programs unfortunately run the majority of our lives. We discuss how our consciousness has direct input into the culture of our cells … how our cells are formed based on our environment and what and how we “feed” them. We talk about cells as the “antennas of self” -- how our bodies are receptors of our own broadcasts. We also discuss the importance of creating and of breaking through our old programs and taking on new programs that don’t perpetuate disharmony. And to our giddy pleasure we also touch upon the importance of dreams: disconnecting from the machine and doorways.

02 Nov 2022128. Anthony Scilipoti – President & CEO @ Veritas Investment Research Corp - Aiming to Lose Track of Time00:58:28

Anthony joins us from his office in Toronto. He is a long time friend of our team and Behind Greatness. For over two decades, he and his firm Veritas have been very prominent and public in the world of forensic accounting and investment research in Canada. Anthony is a multi-layered human being with a drive-forward bent – and boy does he bring it in this conversation. We talk about preparation, freeing your mind for new ideas and quick-start vs follow-through – and being open to reciprocal impact. We talk pounding pavement and ideas, shining apples and doctor-visit crying. And, we lean in close as he shares some intimate, emotional, personal stories that instructed him as a young adult with life-long hard lessons in persistence, empathy, love and the importance of abstaining from judgement. We learn that you can tell him anything … just don’t tell him “can’t”. And ask yourself: what is it that you do that you never tire of doing?

Big hugs to Ana.

24 Nov 2022131. Dr. Courtney Brown – Mathematician, Social Scientist / Remote Viewing Scholar - Committing to Full Disclosure01:14:02

Welcome back to Behind Greatness. Courtney joins us from his studio in Atlanta, Georgia. Courtney is a mathematician and social scientist, a professor at Emory University in Atlanta. He is also the only professor on the planet who researches and publically discusses both Remote Viewing and Extra Terrestrials. After learning about the CIA’s remote viewing program led by Russell Targ (ep 80), Courtney dove in and became fascinated with the science. He found that the military was not interested in how it works, but only how to make it better. This approach was far too limiting for Courtney. Starting 30 years ago, he and his Farsight Institute developed their own procedures and scientific exploration around Remote Viewing and the active study of non-local consciousness. And man oh man, have they been exploring. He discusses the challenges and limitations of modern classical physics, our physical reality as frequencies and energy, and adjusting our “tuner” to view across time and space. We hear from him the reason why academia and mainstream science resist and how they went from ridicule about this subject to now existing in a state of “waiting to exhale”. We learn from Courtney about the successes of authoritarian control over populations and how the brave (like several messengers who have been past guests on this podcast) are the exception rather than the rule. We learn his take on human beings as “ISBEs” and the urgent need for us to shift our beliefs. He further intrigues us about the discussion on how death, once viewed as an escape from oppressive regimes is now believed to be a place of traps and recycling back (reincarnation). Courtney’s mission is focused on full disclosure and societal understanding of the reality of our Truman Show-like existence … and the understanding that it is in each and every one of us to have the capacity to see through it, defend against it and move beyond it.

30 Jun 2023160. Franc Milburn – Former UK Military Intelligence officer, Army Paratrooper / Intelligence Security Specialist - Being Compelled by Curiosity01:04:18

Welcome back to Behind Greatness. Today, we are joined by Franc Milburn at his home in the Canary Islands. Franc joined the Army in the 80s and worked in Intelligence, honing his skills and growing his network across the Middle East and North Africa. Today, he runs a private security intelligence business for Fortune 500 companies and is a member of the Scientific Coalition for UAP Studies. In his current work he acts as a “sheepdog” for his clients through skills he’s developed since his days as an intelligence officer -- spending time in war torn countries gathering ground truth from investing time with local communities and their leaders. We connected with Franc through his mentor Col. John Alexander as Franc has also had a long time curiosity in the UAP phenomenon and has a unique lens through which he views it. We discuss his research and interactions with prominent scientists and astrophysicists such as Dr Eric Davis and Dr. Jack Sarfatti – discussions that have revealed the reality of reverse engineering programs of off-world vehicles, physical UAP craft and their connection to our consciousness . We learn from Franc about the deliberate harassment strategies against scientists who work on UAP technology – including a direct energy weapon used against a scientist friend of his who was suicided. And, for good measure, we also threw in lucid dreaming and out of body experiences. A Franc discussion about wanting to know what you don’t know – good or bad.

Don’t hesitate to see our conversations with Col John B. Alexander (ep 147) and Former Navy Fighter Pilot Ryan Graves (ep 141).

04 Aug 202166. Kenneth Choi – Hollywood Actor – Imagining That You Can01:02:53

Ken joins us from LA where he lives, works and breathes his life’s passion. Having grown up in a conservative immigrant family environment in Chicago, Ken felt that he wanted to explore more and differently than what was expected of him. Being very shy and emotionally-tuned, young Ken also understood that he needed to break out of his environment. But, as he explains, he spiralled downwards for several years into his early adulthood. It took a certain self-realization to have him turn it around. And boy, did he. We discuss with him many of life’s lessons that he’s learned along the way and how he weaves them into his work: having empathy for others and leading with compassion, the belief in making happen what you want, the confidence in your own creative self, the courage in leaving everything behind to focus on exploration.

09 Nov 2022129. Robert Doyle – Wizard / Hypnotherapist – Seeing It Because You Believe It01:21:28

Welcome back to Behind Greatness. Today we have a wonderful chat with Robert Doyle. Robert has been a therapist for 25 years, with an expertise in hypnotherapy and brief therapy ACT. He grew up in London – a small city between Toronto and Detroit – and needed to expand his own limits as a young man. He was a highly intuitive and curious young boy who also developed an early affinity to tech. After leaving for the big city, he graduated from university and started on a career in telecommunications where he quickly developed a reputation for being the “fixer”. Named by his colleagues as the "confidence recovery expert " he helped save his employer millions in potential lawsuits over the years by simply giving a tuned ear to customer grievances. This prepared him for a jump to what he really wanted to do: help people discover and explore about their frontier and pushing it to get bigger limits (see also theme with Wynton Marsalis, ep 126). We talk about a heck of alot: the lost relationship with ourselves, our connection with the dream state, the power of words, the 3 minds, command vs control, curiosity deficiency and doubting your doubt. We discuss the importance of giving real space to the voice in your head, and of understanding that your subconscious always gets a vote.

14 Jul 2023162. Dr. Werner Barkhuizen – Psychologist / Entrepreneur / Explorer – Questioning Your Guardrails01:27:30

Thanks for tuning in again to Behind Greatness. Werner joins us today from his home in North Carolina. Originally from South Africa, Werner is an accomplished entrepreneur with interests in several industries around the world. He had been practising as clinical psychologist when in 2009 he shifted to a renewed focus: to work himself out of a job. We jump into his lifelong fascination in exploring the truth of human existence and the non physical. We discuss psychokinesis (spoon bending), premonitions and where memories exist. He elaborates on the importance of killing your ego and the practice of extrospection. We hear in detail about his and his family’s frequent experience with floating orbs and his exploration of this phenomenon. And, we hear about a pivotal meeting with Gandhi’s grandson, his encounters with entities and his real, extraordinary exploration of achieving a controlled, measurable and replicable approach in leaving his body to astral travel. We learn that he is a practical man who has doubled down on quenching his thirst for pursuing knowledge, acknowledging that dissolving the ego is the key to accessing what we don’t know.

21 Sep 2022123. Mark Cecchetto – President, Nestle Confectionary – Choosing to Navigate Through Rough Waters00:44:17

Welcome back to Behind Greatness. Today we are speaking with Mark Cecchetto. Mark acts as the President of Nestle Canada’s Confectionary Division and lives in Toronto. Mark grew up in a healthy family environment where he was encouraged to explore and where the expectation for a successful future path was also not negotiable. Originally wanting to have a career in sports management – with the ultimate ideal as the GM of the Blue Jays – Mark saw a different path emerging as he became a young professional. We discuss several “oh crap” moments through his life and his need to look for rougher waters. We discuss at length his passion for mentoring and helping those younger than him and the angst and fear he sees in many as a reflection of his past worries. We learn about what “A” word best defines his expectation for his two children. And what we’re really curious about is what he’s trying to cleanse when we discuss his non-professional life. And staring at water …

15 Dec 202185. Dr. Jonathan Cardella, MD – Endovascular Surgeon / Assistant Professor, Yale / Gardener – Being Comfortable with Feeling Uncomfortable00:50:51

Jonathan, a Toronto boy, joins us from his office in Connecticut where he plays out his days as an endovascular surgeon and a Yale professor. Jonathan lives and breathes his passion for surgery – and from that passion we discover a lot of what makes him really tick. We delve immediately into themes like seeking approval, the real definition of confidence and his view on the life of servitude that he’s chosen. We discuss leadership through humility and hard work and the desire to guide and mentor “Al Lawson-style”. We discuss the “filing cabinet of worry”, the intimacy of his work and the dangers of pedestalization. Being a former varsity baseball player, Jonathan also weaves his thoughts with us through the metaphor of sport and the lessons of some of its heroes.

But, more importantly we explore what Jonathan is realizing has become important to him. He explains what “legacy” really means for him. And we go deeper into discovery with him about the connection to the earth and being connected to his own human existence – through both the seen and the unseen.

Nicholas joins Behind Greatness from his office at Yale in Connecticut. Nicholas grew up with two parents who had originally came to the US from Greece as young scholars. One of Nicholas’ heroes was his mother, who suffered for two decades with a form of fatal cancer. This experience was instrumental in Nicholas’ decision to later become a physician. As a physician, he specialized in palliative care. Having been present at countless amount of deaths, he began to take more interest in what he saw made humanity tick: love and the need for human connection. For the last 20 years, Nicholas has been spearheading a unique scientific adventure with his team at The Human Nature Lab at Yale. For too long scientists have pondered and studied the obvious dark side of human nature, but it is his scientific view that the capacity for love, friendship and teaching are much more powerful than our darkest forces. Armed with the increasing knowledge of how human social networks work, he and his growing inter-disciplinary team of scientists have been on a relentless quest to make it even better. Interestingly, we also discuss the reality of “like at first sight” and Japanese interpretation of neighbourhoods as an analogy for contrast against the Western view of interpersonal relationships. Oh, and Brazilian soccer.

23 Feb 202295. Cat Criger – Indigenous Elder / Healer / Spiritual Dreamer / Racing Bike Enthusiast – Contributing to Other People’s Curiosities00:56:08

Today we are joined by Cat Criger in Toronto. Cat has had a life so far filled with experiences in following his curiosities. He is an Elder of the Cayuga Nation, Turtle Clan and has German and English ancestry. His father was a “disenfranchised” Indigenous man, which meant that his children were protected from the “scoop” of government authorities that took children away to residential schools. His father decided to pursue his career for the Department of Defence working on military aircraft. This imbued a young Cat with an interest in high tech machinery, which served him well later in his career. And then Cat pivots again in the 1990s after rediscovering the ancient philosophies of his Indigenous roots. Not shy of professing his passion of racing bikes, Cat discusses with us the importance of “always exploring” and living with the “twisty-roads-only” gps setting. We talk about the majesty of felines, the purpose of February, hot-pink deer, portable record players and Mr Baird, dream-catchers, swamps as both transition and as home and the gift of music from our mothers.

A winding discussion filled with metaphors - and lesson sharing.

23 Jun 2023159. Jack Horner – World-Renowned Paleontologist / Explorer / Professor – Remaining Amazed01:02:55

Welcome back to Behind Greatness. In this session we are speaking with Jack Horner from his home in California. Jack is a world renowned Paleontologist – of Jurassic Park fame. He was a reference point for the main character of both the original book and the Jurassic Park movie franchise of Steve Spielberg. Coincidentally (even though we don’t believe in coincidences anymore) we are recording this conversation on June 9th, 2023 - the 30 year anniversary of the release of Jurassic Park. Jack had the fortune of growing up in Montana and at an early age fell in love with dinosaurs. He found his first dinosaur bone at 8 years old and 1st skeleton at 13 years old. We follow him as he describes his ground breaking discovery (and his naming) of the Maiasaura, the running of his own museum, cutting through dinosaur bones to disprove and prove hypotheses and a career digging and training other paleontologists all around the globe. We learn about his connection with George Lucas and his fascinating “dino-chicken” project, the fundamental importance of curiosity and why we can’t lose our need to be amazed.

“Go outside and find something.”

See our conversation with Dr. Vera Tiesler (ep 81) if interested in knowing another world-renowned explorer.

16 Jun 202159. Rita DeMontis - National Lifestyle & Food Editor, Sun Media / TV & Radio Host / Lady Bountiful – Celebrating the Achievements of Others00:47:09

Born in France of Sardinian parents, little Rita emigrated to Toronto where she grew up believing she was American for a while. As a child with a joie de vivre, she found inspiration in others who lived without judgement towards others and who gave for their community. As a young woman starting her career, she found that if she faced barriers head-on and with a smile she could reap great learning. A wildly accomplished media professional, we learn that her success in her profession comes from being awake to what’s around her while she drives at the truth. But we find that the true source of her success comes from her profound passion of what life gives her: people to help, achievements of others to broadcast, dreams to heed and food to share.

18 Nov 202029. Giacomo Gianniotti - Actor/Director/Producer – Nobility in Storytelling00:43:07

Giacomo Gianniotti spends some time on Behind Greatness to discuss and explore his thoughts on driving change and making impact. We learn how a young Giacomo felt the need to fit in and blend in as an “outsider” for years after he moved from his native Italy. But when his parents saw that he had to free himself from this debilitation, they took action. And this is when his real growth began to take hold. As he freed himself to explore and celebrate his differences and similarities with the world around him he realized how important storytelling was to him in developing his path. We learn how growing up in the summers in Rome helped him hone his wits and appreciate the importance of humour in communicating truth. Using his love of scuba-diving as a metaphor, he explains how he is driven to push his own boundaries and test himself to expand his own artistic imprint. We also discuss about who he holds in high esteem, and why it has become so important for him to help those less fortunate.

23 Mar 202299. Dr. Sharon Hewitt Rawlette – Award Winning Writer & Researcher, Paranormal and Parapsychological – Being the Core of Who You Are00:50:48

Sharon joins us from her home in Virginia. Sharon grew up in a Christian-centric upbringing and was home-schooled at her request. After having gone away for post-secondary to NYC, she found that her new secular environment was not the fit that she expected. However, after having experienced grad school in Paris, the secular view on life became more attractive to her … until it didn’t. She brings us through a couple of personal experiences of “coincidences” and becoming more of herself as she explores the “weirdness” of paranormal. We discussed the importance of paying attention to the paranormal – starting with synchronicities and dreams – to help us to see deeper layers of ourselves. We talk about freedom, the importance of love to learn about interconnectedness, the shedding of beliefs and the importance of being puzzled. For good measure we threw in a chat about the number 33.

30 Dec 2023176. Mike Clelland – Owl Researcher / Author / Illustrator - Not Being Beholden to the Outcome01:26:04

Welcome to Behind Greatness. We are joined by Mike at his residence in the Pacific Northeast. Mike is an author an illustrator and an expert in ultralight backpacking. He is also a recognized “owl guy”. Mike is one of the only people on planet earth who has been collecting, documenting, researching and archiving owl events (from around the world) in relation to ufo experiences and ufo contact. He shares with us the mystical experience that first brought his attention to owls, his recall of missing time as a boy, his contact experience with extraterrestrials and his gripping story of March 10 2013. We learn from him what he believes owls really do represent and why they are important to understanding our interconnectedness to the non-physical realm. Don’t miss his metaphor of “between the magnets”.

26 Jan 2024178. Dr. Stephen Aizenstat - World-Renowned Professor of Depth Psychology / Imagination Specialist / Founder of Dream Tending - “Bringing the Witnessing Presence”01:08:04

To give to the Behind Greatness podcast, please visit here: https://behindgreatness.org. As a charity, tax receipts are issued to donors.

Welcome back to Behind Greatness. We are sitting down today with Stephen at his home in Santa Barbara. Among other things, he is the founder of Dream Tending and the Academy of Imagination in California. He’s a depth psychologist and he has been exploring dreams for over 4 decades. He conducts dreamwork and imagination seminars and workshops throughout the world, including presentations to the UN and to legislators in the US. We dive into the language of dreams, hearing the imagery and the intelligence of the planet learned through the dreaming state. He explains the imperialistic impulse in our dreaming and the importance of asking the questions in the dreaming state. We learn about the witnessing presence, treating the dream as the very beginning: the “ongoingness of the conversation” and “the difference that makes all the difference”. And we talk about leaning forward with curiosity in facing malevolent dream characters and “allowing the creativity that is indigenous to come to life”. A trip.

Ask yourself, “who is dreaming the dream?”

07 Mar 2025209. Dr. Jennifer “Kim” Penberthy – Clinical & Research Psychologist, University of Virginia / Author – Exploring the ‘So What?’01:14:13

We speak with Dr. Kim Penberthy today who joined us from the University of Virginia. Kim wears many hats. She is a professor of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. She is also a board certified clinical psychologist and conducts research, teaches, and provides clinical care at UVA in psychiatry and the cancer center. She also studies and researches after death communication. She lived on a farm in a house that witnessed Civil War strife, with her mother a nurse and her father a would-be farmer surgeon. Exposed to life and death on a farm, she began at an early age asking herself and her parents metaphysical questions – long before she became a clinician and research scientist. We hear about her life changing story at the beach and fascinating surgical table stories heard from her aging father. We learn about her pursuit in researching after death communications from those who lose loved ones and how this research may help develop more wholistic therapeutic approaches to grieving.

17 Nov 202181. Dr. Vera Tiesler – Leading Bio-Archaeologist, Mesoamerica / Artist / Professor – Searching For Balance With the Cosmos00:53:44

Vera joins us from the sunny Yucatan. Her focus has been bioarcheology and archaeology of pre-Hispanic and pre-colonial Maya. As a child, she grew up in Germany under a very demanding upbringing. Being an artist at heart, she wanted to explore what was calling her. As a teen, she “fled” to the US to study Art History at Tulane. From there she decided to pursue her studies in Medicine in both Germany and Mexico. But that was merely the beginning. Enchanted by the warmth of Latin American culture, she dove head first in a life of exploration in archaeological and anthropological adventure graduating from Medical School. Now a leading bioarchaeologist in Latin America, she weaves her skills as a trained physician and her sense of wonder as a social scientist and artist to explore human remains and what they tell us about the ideas of our ancient ancestors. We discuss ancient Indigenous Mesoamerican cultures and how their idea of the cosmos was anchored in the divinity of the human body. We discuss some lessons that the ancient Maya teach us about the realities of both the anguish and the intensity of life, including how modern children should live that intensity, instead of being protected from it. Such an intriguing conversation with Vera about veritas.

10 Mar 202145. Anthony Di Iorio, pt 1 - CEO & Founder of Decentral & Jaxx / Co-Founder of Ethereum – Seeing the Nobility in Serving Others00:57:09

As a youngster growing up just outside of Toronto, Anthony lived in an entrepreneurial environment. His father, an inventor, instilled in him the importance of being curious, asking questions and breaking through. With authority never sitting right with him as a boy, he chose to explore his own path as a young man after a brief stint in the family business. His path was not short of probing, stumbling, succeeding, learning, and resetting. And, in 2011/2012, he found that the emerging crypto-space spoke dearly to his natural inclinations and talent. And he dove right in. Being one of the pioneers in the field he learned first hand what the world really needed – and that he could be at the forefront of real change and (compounding) impact. We learn how he is currently forging ahead and we get a small glimpse of how he plans to serve others – something that ultimately matters to him above all else.

05 Dec 2023174. Father John Szada – Exorcist / Roman Catholic Priest – Filling the Void with Purpose00:59:28

Welcome back to Behind Greatness. Father John joins us from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Father John has been a Roman Catholic priest for several decades, he’s bi-ritual, he has a PhD in Psychology and he can carry the mass in Latin. He’s also practised as an Exorcist since 2011. This conversation goes in several paths. We talk about pride and ego, humility and detachment, fear and insecurity, the slavery of addiction and scientism. We hear about satanism in the Vatican, evil being personal, possession vs attack vs obsession, exorcism gone wrong, and a voodoo-practising priest. We learn about the demonic being real, showing itself in the open in our society, the commitment to the conversion process – and the pivotal wisdom of the matriarchal figure. Oh, the metaphors dance in this conversation.

If you believe, you will be shown.

Welcome back to Behind Greatness. We are back again with Rudy.

We dive into the burning of libraries and conservatories, the magic of operatic music, composition, intent and emotions - and accessing history and the potential future from the black hole. We talk about the ultimate cosmic intelligence, the purpose of the universe, the “sponsoring” of the “big G” of our universe of universes, the limiting of the size of the black holes by the quantum field, and the limitations of math. And, there’s more (as always) … Rudy goes on to describe the agreement he had with Dr. Edgar Mitchell before he died in 2016, the rewiring of the brain after the exposure of light from UFOs and a device that was developed by colleagues which he helped test “to the limits” to detect consciousness beyond the grave.

Thanks for joining us at behind Greatness. We sit down with Dr. Garry Nolan at his home in California. Garry is an Immunologist, an academic, an inventor and patent holder and a business executive. Dr. Nolan holds the Rachford and Carlotta A. Harris Endowed Chair in the Department of Pathology at Stanford University School of Medicine. We pack this conversation with Garry’s practice on focusing on the data to provide the conversation piece with other scientists and the public. We talk about Garry’s personal experiences when he was younger and how they serve as fuel to his scientific inquiry. He elaborates on the importance for him in hiding his long term intent behind a cloak of real science. We hear about his research in a Harvard lab on the basal ganglia, prompted by earlier work done with Kit Green and high functioning remote viewers and intuition. We learn from him about doing science best with asking the Zen question - so that the answer will always move you forward. And, we hear a refreshing perspective on speculation of the non-human intelligence question and that “something behind the scenes”. As a life-long question-maker, he also shares with us the type of person he honours and why. Why? Because ‘why’ is the answer. That’s why.

31 Aug 2022120. Rick Campanelli aka “Rick The Temp” – National TV/Radio Host & Personality, Former VJ – Going To That Mountain, Not Waiting For It00:52:44

Rick joins us from his home outside of Toronto. He is perennially and lovingly known as “Rick the Temp” in his home country. He is a long time national TV & Radio host and a long time friend to Inspire and Behind Greatness. As a shy kid growing up in Hamilton, Rick knew he had something in him. Armed with the love of music and art, a positive life-energy and a heavy commitment to preparation, Rick created the opportunity for himself to become a national video jockey for Much Music in the 1990s. And he never looked back. We learn about throwing Christmas trees off buildings (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSYvZdqapZw), microphones in microwaves and note-filled footballs. We discuss being cognizant of the nostalgia that he represented for millions of viewers across the country. And we also learn about being ok with facing new experiences with little confidence, high anxiety and lack of polish and how the commitment to learning and pushing has always been the key for Rick. He also stresses the importance of staying approachable and the pact he had with his family members when he first started his journey.

Rick’s positivity is contagious – and real. Listen for yourself.

29 Sep 202174. Anson Henry – Olympian Sprinter / Broadcaster / Content Creator / Podcaster – Being an Observant While Being in the Lane00:46:14

Anson joins us from London, England. His parents were originally from Jamaica and moved to Canada for a better life. He grew up just outside of Toronto with his sister. He was a natural athlete and in his late teens he found a real passion in sprinting. From there, he took off. Winning most of his competitions in Canada, Anson wanted more. On full scholarship at Washington State in the US, Anson soon became All-American and entered the elite world of top sprinters, keeping that same pace as he went professional. We discuss “elite” and elite “savagery” and the difference between the two. For most of his career, he trained with and raced against the world’s top sprinters. Anson describes how he had a front row seat as an observer while always “having a lane in the race”. We discuss how the importance of telling the story of sport-journey has become Anson’s post-racing calling. We also have fun breaking down the existence of the mind of the sprinter, the altered dimension of emotional existence and the need for athletes to leverage their bodies to attain experiences more other-worldly. Daaamn.

03 Feb 202140. Josh Cassidy – 3x Paralympian / Champion Racer / Speaker / Artist – Accepting that Failing & Losing Is Just Learning00:46:55

Joshua Cassidy is a 3 x Paralympian and is preparing for his 4th Paralympic games in Tokyo. He is a 31 x racing champion with world record times at the 2012 Boston Marathon. The oldest of 10 children, he spent his first 5 years in hospital fighting a non-congenital cancer – and won. Having a family where affection and love mattered as much as discipline and finding your own way, Josh faced the world with a tenacity unparalleled. Having had mentors who helped him along the way, he found a love and passion for racing, even if he had to bleed internally to prove it. But Josh has another muse and we explore this as well. And we expect that he will be spending the “passion, the dedication and the time” when post-world champion Josh finally retires his racing gear.

11 Jan 2023137. Jim Estill – CEO, Danby / Tech Entrepreneur / Philanthropist – Leading an Integrated Life00:52:40

Jim joins us from his home in Guelph, a city just west of Toronto. Jim is currently the owner and CEO of Danby Appliances, a leader in their industry in North America with 2 million small large appliances produced each year. Prior to this Jim founded and ran a $2 billion technology company and retired early at age 53 - only to come back to run and then purchase Danby 7 years ago. We learn from Jim about painting houses in order to make ends meet while he worked on his tech start-up, studying engineering while his heart wasn’t in it and having parents who feared for his inclination to run his own business. But, we also learn about his thoughts on the philosophy of failure, employing manners (from his mother) as a comparative advantage, being an active agent through the power of “while”, gratitude journaling – and shovelling driveways while running a billion dollar company. We discuss his lived experience on leveraging a lack of focus, his profound need to help his fellow human beings and the anonymous gift that he wishes to keep giving. Hear also what creativity means to him and what he imagines as his dying words when his time comes.

20 Jan 202138. Rob Zepp – Former Professional Hockey Player / Manager, NHLPA - Being Relentless in Your Pursuit00:38:12

We are joined by Rob Zepp. He currently works at the National Hockey League Players Association (NHLPA). Before this, Rob was a professional hockey player in both Europe and in the NHL, taking the crown as the oldest rookie in the NHL since 1927 to win in his debut. Rob brings us through his journey as a young boy with a dream to be a professional athlete and then living this dream on another continent – before he returned to join the NHL back in North America. But, he never let the sport define him. Always with an eye on exploring multiple passions, he worked hard at studying business while grinding away as a professional goaltender, living his boyhood dream. His success, achieved in large part through the support of his spouse and their commitment to the journey together, is a story too good not to be told.

13 Apr 2022102. Dr. Bayo Akomolafe - Philosopher / Writer / Depth Psychologist – Reshifting your Posture to Hear the Nothingness Around You00:54:10

Bayo joins us from his home in Chennai India but grew up in Lagos, Nigeria. Losing his father as a young teen had him start a search for knowledge and meaning – a search that has intensified throughout his life. As a teen he hustled to make a living in the street to help support his family and save for university studies. At university, he was destined to be “The Total Man” until he unfurled his mind and his beliefs. The conversation goes to exciting depths and hidden corners … we discuss our Entanglement (oh, our entanglement!), the seditiousness of writing, the “bible and a pencil”, the act of making his father through his daughters, being “dire-whelmed”, seeing death as a soundscape, the act of creation – and shiny dishes. So. Much. Goodness.

Scott is currently leading Uninterrupted Canada, an entrepreneurial adventure in partnership with Lebron James & Maverick Carter. As one of Canada’s top Sports Executives who oversaw billion dollar budgets, Scott spent his time with us discussing the importance of mentorship, networking and collaboration rather than his work. Game on! As a young red-headed Moore, we hear about his exploration with hockey, acting, stock market couriering and stand-up comedy. We also chat about ego, giving back to your world, cursive writing, good manners … and dinosaurs. A good time was had by all.

15 Sep 202172. Antoni Abad - Digital Artist / Founder – Blind.wiki, Megafone.net, Deaf.city – Moving beyond Social-User to Citizen-Participant00:53:51

Antoni is based in Barcelona. He grew up Lleida, Spain partly under Franco’s totalitarian regime. The harsh political conditions didn’t deter Antoni’s parents, who chose to live lives dedicated to artistic endeavour. Antoni also realized at a young age that he wished to pursue his artistic curiosity and once he left his home town he began to explore his sculpting craft along with exploring the world outside of Lleida. In the early 90s, he left for Banff, Canada for a brief stint. He arrived with measuring tape and materials and left with something called an email address. From that point on, Antoni’s journey took the path of a digital artistic pioneer travelling and showcasing his works all around the globe. Based in Spain, he was also the first to create the world’s first digital “social” network – a network that was predicated on a decentralized-view of communication and a view that paid emphasis on participants, not users. We discuss how building platforms for the marginalized, the displaced, the demobilized - all over the world - has been a calling card for his art. Antoni explains how a “citizen’s network” is more meaningful than a social media network. We also understand that the artist creates the sublime when the artist sees themselves as a true mediator.

29 Jun 2022113. Dr. Diane Hennacy, MD – Neuroscientist/Psychiatrist / Artist/ Author – Exploring Beyond The Boundaries00:53:50

We chat with Diane, who is joining us from Oregon. Diane is an artist and dancer … and she is also a practising neuroscientist, psychiatrist, clinician and author. She is a polymath, whose life has been enriched by unique near death experiences - at age 4, age 13 and again in her 20s. We learn about Diane’s challenge of the materialistic model that scientists are trained to follow and why this is important for her – and for science. Diane is also known for her pioneering work in parapsychology, through the study of telepathy and savant skills in autistic children. She discusses with us the primacy of consciousness and consciousness “as a cloud”, the information field vs the sensory field, reincarnation, out-of-body experiences, the dreaming state and the limitations of language on our ability to think. She brings us through a wonderful retelling of her experience with ducks and making sense of chaos through artistic experience. A fascinating discussion, with a fascinating human being.

14 Apr 202150. Ryan Albright - President, Covered Bridge Potato Chip Co. – Seeing the Unseen and Driving at It00:44:31

Ryan joins us from rural New Brunswick, in Atlantic Canada. Coming from a line of hard-working potato farmers, a very young Ryan thought about how he could continue the family business, but doing it his own way. Bringing home the point to us that the journey is what matters, we hear about 100lb Christmas tree shearing machines, sleeping in a truck travelling across the US to bring back contracts, exploding chip bags on highways and doctoring conference floor badges to meet key buyers. Not unrelated, we learn how he started his enterprise while hearing “no” all the time, how he built a factory from scratch to help him compete with billion dollar competitors, how he Corolla’d 90,000 miles a year without a paycheck for several years and how he hired people to join him in executing a vision that he so relentlessly pursued. Now 40 years old, we clearly learn that what’s always been important is his devotion to the land he’s from and to the people who have helped him get where he finds himself journeying now.

19 Jan 202290. Dr. Rune Hjarnø Rasmussen – Expert, Nordic Animism – Reawakening the Ancient Human Need to be in Relation00:48:16

We connect with Rune, who lives in Copenhagen. Rune is a leading expert in pre-Christian Nordic Religions & Animism. Born and bred in rural Denmark, Rune explains how hints of Nordic pre-Christian tradition was woven into songs that his grandmother used to sing. This spurred a life-long quest: his need for unearthing and attaining long-lost knowledge of Nordic Indigenous culture. He started with travelling and living as a teen to Norway and learning how the Sami (the last Indigenous peoples of Northern Europe) lived. He soon found that current scholarship in the field was too mundane for him. So, he decided to spend considerable time studying animist religions in West Africa and Brazil and he saw that the peoples from where he was born held similar ancient beliefs, long before the spread of Christianity. Rune brings us through a discussion on relation and connectedness to the “other”: the landscape, the animals, other peoples, cycles of the seasons etc. We discuss how death and the dead were uniquely perceived by his Indigenous ancestors and the “carnivalesque” nature of this perception. Just fascinating. We’re not going to lie: “Valhalla” was uttered at least once.

24 Feb 202143. Matt Rizzetta – Founder, North Sixth Group / Entrepreneur / Investor / Author – Being Fueled By Your Anxieties & Your Fears00:50:27

Matt grew up in New York in a close-knit family who encouraged him to both dream big and to keep his eye on the pragmatic. We discuss his proactive search for his passion as a young man as he bobbed and weaved through a brief but explosive stint as an aspiring boxer, an early marketing career working in Times Square and with a side-hustle as a sports agent. When the dust settled, he sat down with his pregnant wife and got her blessing to start a PR firm from scratch. Eleven years later he sits with us to share some of the lessons he’s been learning. Still under 40, he is a successful entrepreneur, agency founder and soccer club owner. He continues to commit to his new adventures with the hunger of a creator both humbled and fueled by his anxieties, uncertainties and fears. Matt pays deep tribute to his hardworking immigrant family, with particular attention to all the matriarchs in his life – including the bright light that was his sister.

08 Jan 2025205. Dr. Andrea Lani – Aerospace Scientist/Engineer - Keeping to an Eagle Eye View00:53:05

Andrea Lani is an aerospace scientist and engineer. Andrea has had experience working with NASA, NATO and the von Karmen Institute and he is now working on an EU project to develop a leading-edge shielding prototype for space vehicles. Andrea had an experience as a young boy viewing an object in space that he could not explain. He decided to dedicate his adult life to academic and practical scientific exploration to help inform him on the technology that he witnessed as that little boy. As a lifelong scientific explorer, he elaborates on how his undying curiosity also eventually led him to a spiritual awakening. We hear about losing time, the peculiar properties of the feline, the power of meditative states, the triangular prism inside a cube inside a sphere, Metatronic visions, Dr. Edgar Mitchell’s IONS and having an Eagle Eye view on things.

To give to the Behind Greatness podcast, please visit us: https://behindgreatness.org. As a charity, tax receipts are issued to donors.

Welcome back to Behind Greatness. We sit down for a one on one chat with Master Shi Heng Yi who is at his temple in Otterberg Germany. Shifu, as we call him, is the founder and headmaster of Europe’s only 24x7 Shaolin Temple for martial arts. He is a martial arts master practising the way of Chan Buddhism. Born and bred in Germany, he is the son of Vietnamese immigrants who left to make a better path for their children. As a young boy he took up martial arts – and the training, discipline and world view it afforded him became a foundation for how he was to live his life as an adult. We dive immediately into a discussion about the attention to thoughts, thoughts being separation and the truth in the non-rational and the non-intellectual. And there’s more: replacing coincidence, not being unaligned, thoughts coming for you and becoming the paradise that you want to achieve. We learn about different types of elevation and the bottom line of what the true type of elevation ultimately creates.

So much goodness here.

Shifu,

31 May 2023156. Stephan A. Schwartz, continued (part 2) - Surrendering all your Preconceptions01:20:31

Thanks for joining us again. We’re back with Stephan, as promised. We highly recommend for you to have a listen to last week’s part 1 before starting this episode. Stephan is not one to disappoint …

Stephan continues with his telling of his triple blind remote viewing tests, and his incredibly scintillating story of the bones of Alexander the Great. Stephan also delves into his thoughts about creativity, the importance of the dream state and meditative state for everyone, in particular with scientists and artists … and how important these states were for scientific discovery (Einstein, DaVinci, Descartes). We discuss the matrix of consciousness, physical materialism and its inadequateness, culture and individual choice, ETs and cultural anthropology and his findings from remote viewing the future – the years 2040, 2050 and 2060.

Surrender all your preconceptions …. Edoardo (ep 91), Natalie Sudman (ep 97) and Leslie Kean (ep 112) do.

02 Jun 202157. Dick Pound – Former Exec, International Olympic Committee / Lawyer / CPA / Olympian / Author - Putting Back into the Well to Help Others00:46:34

Richard started his journey training as a swimmer in the rainforests of British Columbia isolated from civilization. Having beat out most of his compatriots as a competitive swimmer, he went on to compete at the Olympic, PanAm and Commonwealth games as a young man. Having returned home he put his efforts into his books to gain designation as a CPA and subsequently as a tax lawyer in Montreal. In the meantime, as a retired Olympian, the Young Pound was invited by other Olympic committee elders to join and take notes for their meetings (reference “information is power” message). This was the beginning of a decades-long adventure that took him to being a senior member of the IOC – overseeing a seismic shift in how the Olympics raised funds, how it redistributed the funds and how it developed a global anti-doping strategy. We discuss creative input in fiction writing vs non-fiction writing and both their similarities and differences in the philosophy of telling story. We discuss the wisdom in giving back to those who are looking for the same help that he once received throughout his own life’s journey. And, we discuss the significance in achieving ascended status through the unity of community. A strong “memo to self”-inspired conversation.

Mike joins us from Southern Ontario. He grew up in a small town near Niagara Falls. As a kid he helped his father deliver milk by horse and cart and was paid in dairy. Finding out later that he was lactose intolerant, he knew this might be a sign. Eventually becoming a CPA and partner at a large firm, Mike spent ungodly hours building his career – putting a strain on his family life. Moving on to work as a CFO for a Multinational firm he lived a life of mergers, acquisitions and cultural takeovers. But we talk about his true passion – working with athletes in the Special Olympics. We discuss true focus, living in the present moment, the love of sharing success with others and the specialness of watching those who live closer to a truth … a truth from which we have all long been detached. A true lesson.

01 Jun 2022109. Tim Jones – Principal, Creative Placemaking Inc. / Pioneering Social Entrepreneur – Celebrating Irreverence for What It Can Create00:48:41

Tim grew up in London (Ontario), a small city between Detroit and Toronto. He had a happy childhood, but needed to live a closeted existence as his environment was hostile. After moving to the big city as a young adult, he quickly began to flourish. He lived a life surrounded by art and the artistic endeavour and lived within the irreverent energy that it exuded. Not considering himself an ‘artist’, this early adulthood life experience shaped his ambitions to the core nonetheless. He soon began to understand how irreverence in the arts brought people together, created culture and helped changed beliefs. Over his career, he has become a globally recognized social entrepreneur in this space. We discuss how modernism in architecture began to focus away from people and give way to towers, plazas - and the car – and how we lost our way in creating places for people and stories and the emotional connection to both. We chat about the “activation” of a place, multisensorial dimensions and art as urban acupuncture. In line with our discussion with the late Hazel Henderson (ep 61), Tim talks about focusing on a bigger pie – not a bigger slice of what we already have.

Welcome back to Behind Greatness. We’re back with Rey Hernandez, as promised. If you haven’t, please listen to the 1st part of this conversation from last week before starting this one episode. You will thank us. In this 2nd part of our chat we learn about Rey’s extra-ordinary experience of leaving his body while sitting in traffic in his car on a morning in 2013. In fact, this recording is almost 10 years to the day of this pivotal moment in his life. Here we discuss the instructions he was given in that bizarre experience and the meeting of the one and only Mary Rodwell, the Harvard Astrophysicist Rudy Schild and the Astronaut Edgar Mitchell all within 48 hours of this event. We learn about the organization of FREE and the 1st ever scientific study on paranormal experiences – an exercise that involved dozens of scientists and thousands of surveys collected from all over the world. We discuss the fabric of reality, contact modalities, ontological shock, awakening, the mind of God, our reality as an illusion - and parasitic beings.

03 Aug 2022118. Dr. Jeffrey Kripal – Chair in Philosophy & Religious Thought, Rice University / Author / Philosopher – Believing in Belief, not in Beliefs01:02:24

Jeff joins us from Houston. He is the current Associate Dean of the Faculty and Graduate Programs in the School of the Humanities and the J. Newton Rayzor Chair in Philosophy and Religious Thought at Rice University. He is also the Associate Director of the Center for Theory and Research at the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California. In this conversation we explore the “3rd space” that Jeff occupies and a wide array of topics therein and all connected to the esoteric: a term that is important to Jeff. We discuss Jeff’s position on the physical world vs the immaterial world, Belief vs Beliefs, the importance of the Humanities and the porosity of the human being. We delve immediately into the Paranormal and learn how old religious heterodoxy allowed what we could accept and what we should ignore and linked to how many scientists (social and otherwise) are “in the closet” about these experiences. We discuss how our culture is trying to change itself today as we share our experiences without the societal / cultural shackles of our recent ancestors. We learn more about his thoughts on religion as a mechanism to tap into paranormal forces and then attribute to an external deity. We discuss being in your own story, creating your own story versus believe that you are your own story. We talk about religion as an art, the self, reincarnation, the importance of acting, the persona – and the Friendly Neighbourhood Spiderman.

Having grown up in a quiet, calm Prairie life with a loving family, Brice decided at an early age to pursue his life path in larger settings with the goal of making a larger impact. With his partner Anthony Lacavera, he spent many long grinding years building Wind Mobile within a fierce, unforgiving and oligopolistic space. After finally selling the company with his partner for well over $1 billion, Brice began to reflect on his experience on the importance of staying resilient: sticking to the mission and simply putting one foot in front of the other. For Rudy, part 1 and part 2, please have a listen to episode #179 and #186.

Welcome back to Behind Greatness. We are back again with Rudy.

Rudy brings us through a discussion on various cosmic topics: the earth’s giant radio telescope, that we can now see the character of the black hole for the 1st time, and an explanation on why our classical definition of the black hole is now proven to be incorrect (congruent with his theory from decades ago). We hear about the significance of interstellar dust samples, biological material in space and plants spilling out their DNA. Rudy further tickles us with his thoughts on the quantum attribute of space that records what we say and think and his thoughts on the inside-out black holethe distant horizon. And in case you’re wondering, we get to the “G-word” and the possibility of a supreme being.

Play with this: “The human mind accesses the black hole to get glimpses of the past” - Rudy Schild.

… to be continued…

Thanks again for joining us at Behind Greatness. We sit down with Grammy-nominated songwriter and producer Dave Bassett at his studio in California. He is also the songwriter behind hundreds of songs and many global hit songs over the years, including Rachel Platten’s Fight Song, Elle King’s Ex’s & Oh’s and Vance Joy’s Riptide. We have a real talk about his life in, with and around music. A former rock band singer and writer Dave found a sweet spot eventually as a therapist of sorts. Dave began to understand the process of writing was an experience he was addicted to. We learn about listening and investing in the solitude of the present moment and tapping into the ether – and how he brings others with him. We talk about quitting the noise, shedding the ego and embracing the real mystery of music. We also hear about Dave’s experience in the music industry and its changing complexion – for better and for worse. And Dave explains to us how we need to reconnect again with the actual physical investment of the musical experience and with our curiosity of the unknown.

Patience.

Listeners might want to try a few of our other conversations with musical guests, including Kid Koala (ep 28), Troy Johnson (ep 48) and Raine Maida (ep 65).

Dave,

09 Feb 202293. George Stroumboulopoulos – Host, “Strombo” on Apple Music Radio – Refusing to be Limited01:02:20

George joins us from his abode in LA where he hosts his own Music Radio Show on Apple that is broadcast to over 120 countries. Originally from Toronto, George grew up with a no-nonsense single mom who taught him the importance of being of service to others. As a young boy, his backdrop was a life filled with daily library visits, a senior’s home, rough neighbourhood streets, cinema and a growing affection for those anti-establishment music genres: punk and metal. We discuss the flawed artists who George says helped shaped him as he grew into a national media personality – with a unique edge. We go on to discuss the importance of doing “the interior work”, living a life with space, refusing to be limited and clearing a path for others. We learn about a muse of his – Raine Maida – who taught him an important lesson on exploring the “what if” at an important juncture in his life. Throughout the chat, we come to understand the important things that really matter to George … and making your mark is not one of them. Listen in. And rock on.

To learn more about George’s muse, feel free to have a listen to Raine’s talk on Behind Greatness. Episode 65.

Welcome back to Behind Greatness. We chat with Loyd from his office in the Bay Area. Loyd is many things: a paranormal investigator, a ghost hunter, parapsychologist, educator, mentalist and chocolatier. We are treated immediately with a ghost story from his early work in the 1980s. He was catapulted into the public eye during the release of The Ghost Busters in 1984, being sought after as a real “ghost hunter”. We discuss a ton of fascinating themes, including: pop culture and beliefs, leaving feelings behind in a room, confronting a sith lord, poltergeists, and the body-station vs the spirit-drone. We learn about Loyd’s early bilocating experiences, his thoughts on humans being an interface device and how science fiction has been more courageous at exploring the possibilities – and the importance of the Rhine Research Center and the public’s - and universities’ - growing interest again in parapsychological study.

We recommend a pairing with episode 113 - with Psychiatrist and Parapsychologist, Dr. Diane Hennacy.

10 Feb 202141. Dr. Elisabet Sahtouris – Evolution Biologist / Futurist / Author – Collaboration Is Key for Individualism & Creativity00:48:10

Dr. Elisabet Sahtouris joins us from Honolulu, Hawaii. Elisabet grew up in Athens, New York and as a child was actively encouraged to explore the biological world around her. She went on to attain a Masters in Fine Arts, History & Languages and then a PhD in Evolution Biology. For decades, she has been an internationally known evolution biologist, futurist, professor, author, speaker and consultant. We discuss the living earth and how our sense of economics and capitalism in Western culture veered away and detached itself from the natural rhythms of our biological reality. We learn her thoughts on how we need to remarry philosophy with science and how we need to be more comfortable with not knowing, so that we can maintain a healthy curiosity of the unknown. Both creativity and building community around creative endeavours are key messages from the discussion. And this also provides a good segue to the last part of our discussion - one that brings us to hypotheses about beyond time and space. So much fun.

Welcome back to Behind Greatness. We are back again with Rudy.

Rudy immediately brings us to his thoughts on the big bang theory, the mother-daughter relationship of spawning universes and the blunder of the current dark matter theory. He lauds the work of his colleague Carl Gibson, an expert in fluid mechanics, on helping to unlock secrets of the universe. We hear about orbs, the spirality of consciousness and being forever marked by expanded possibilities after being in touch with a ufo (“miracles”?) and Rey Hernandez’s contact modalities.

24 Mar 2023146. Sue Ludwig - President & Founder, NANT / Occupational Therapist / Author – Unravelling All We Can00:55:06

Welcome back to Behind Greatness. Today, we sit down with Sue Ludwig in Cincinnati. We get right into it, talking about babies. Sue is the founder of the National Association of Neonatal Therapists. She is an occupational therapist with an expertise in neo-natal care by vocation. She saw several years ago that there was very little attention paid to any standards and mentoring for the caring and development of new born human beings. So, she went about creating a national body that took this on and all the “soft medicine” around the importance of listening to the baby in its first days/weeks of life. We talk about the direct connection that the newborn has to all things important in our adult lives: community, love and creativity. We discuss the perils of disassociation with patients in the hospital experience, the importance of checking your baggage outside the car, how our little baby bodies take notes that define sensory perception for life AND how being outside has become a lost art. Listen in as well on Sue’s thoughts on why babies teach us that there is no end.

“You can take the eagerness and feelings to create, with you”. Amen.

A warm thank you to Dr. Jill Bolte-Taylor.

08 Jun 2023157. Tat Apab’yan Tew - Mayan Spiritual Guide & Midwife / Author - Smuggling Knowledge01:08:07

We are joined by Tat Apab’yan Tew (also: Fabian) at his home in Mexico City. Apab’yan is a K’iche’ Maya spiritual guide, a ceremonial historian, a male midwife a lecturer and an author. He was born of a Mexican mother and a Guatemalan father. He grew up in Mexico City without his father – but with a yearning to know his Mayan heritage. His father was an indigenous man of Mayan descent from the mountains of Nawal Ja and he spent his young adult life as a guerilla fighter with rebel forces against foreign corporate control of his homelands. As a young adult, Apab’yan started on his journey to explore the life and existence of the Guatemalan highlands – and he dove in head-first once he arrived in the highlands. Abab’yan recounts his story of reconnection with the Mayan way – of viewing pregnancy, of recognizing both the feminine and the “complementary” and of understanding the consciousness of the developing baby. We discuss the following of Mayan calendar to understand our behaviour and our character, the idea of God, the reading of the blood flow and the pulses of nature and seeing knowledge as a way of healing.

Thanks again to Dr. Thomas Verny (ep 121 ) …. and a nod to Indigenous Elder Cat Criger (ep 95) for the initial drumming reference.

08 Dec 202184. Marysia Miernowska – Green Witch / Herbalist / Earth Activist / Author – Being Intentional, Even When “Inefficient”00:51:51

Marysia joins us from southern California. A “green witch”, she is a sought after herbalist and healer in the US. Her own roots lie with a rabble-rousing family in Poland who were active in the Nazi resistance during WW2. Growing up in a matriarchal family, she learned the importance of the plant world and the abundance of the earth from her grandmother. With the understanding that plants create the ecosystem that we are born into, Marysia’s philosophy is centered on our intimate connection we have with plants’ spiritual essence. We have an engaging chat on plants as elders, teachers, healers and guides. We discuss mountains, the (thin) veil present at both birth and death and wholeness being holiness. Oh, and that’s not the half of it …. We talk at length about modern humans’ linear view on production and consumption, the ancient wisdom of mountains and our connection with the “dreaming” earth. Throw in some musings about envy, the genius of the self and human creativity and we have an upbeat, expansive talk with a woman of the earth.

22 Jan 2023138. Allan Savory – Founder, Savory Institute / Pioneering Scientist – Running Out Of Time01:07:37

Allan is a native of present day Zimbabwe and joins us from his home in the US. Allan has lived a life of varied and profound experiences – as a farmer, a soldier, a game ranger, a politician, an exiled politician, a biologist and a pioneering independent scientist. Without realizing what he was recognizing as a 20 year old game ranger, Allan began a life of understanding what lay at the core of humanity’s problem: management. Starting from the 1960s he saw how our modern civilization could confront desertification and reverse climate change. We discuss the destruction of past civilizations, the wicked problem of institutions, the feudalism of knowledge and how important our two tools (technology and fire) have been for us. His work promoting large-scale regeneration of the world’s grasslands through holistic management has spread over 29 countries, with more universities eventually coming on board with his decades of scientific investigation and practical implementation of his methods.

Santiago joins us from Vienna. He is from Bogota, Colombia and spends his time between Austria and his native land. He is a founder and director of Jaguar Siembra – a not for profit outfit in Colombia dedicated to preserving Indigenous knowledge and sharing indigenous wisdom through film about this supremely unique place on the planet in northern Colombia: “La Linea Negra” in Santa Marta. This conversation is packed with what’s important to our guest – and to our podcast. Santiago warns us about the travails from our disconnection from our food sources, he explains the sacredness of the Jaguar (see episode with Amy Jo Johnson for more) and the community in music. He also educates us on ancient places on earth and their connection to sound and to ancient wisdom. We discuss his mission in communicating through art and why it’s important for him to use the power of film cut through the noise to share the sacred knowledge from a piece of the earth that has been untouched by modernity since forever. 16 Feb 2023142. Dr. Diana Pasulka – Professor of Religious Studies / Indiana Jones / Best Selling Author - Unlearning01:17:58

Welcome back to Behind Greatness. Today we speak with Diana Pasulka, author of American Cosmic: Religion, UFOs and Technology, from her home in North Carolina. Diana’s academic reputation was rooted in the research of miraculous events within Catholic history to new religious movements. In 2012, her world was rocked. At that time, she was researching for entirely different kind of book and started to see patterns in the historical records re aerial phenomena dating back 800-900 years. This piqued her curiosity and kickstarted a whole new adventure. Her thirst for truth brought her into a world of intrigue and of secrets – both open and closed. Her curiosities led her through a 6-year journey as a modern day Indiana Jones - an academic, a researcher of the mystical and mysterious and a danger-defying explorer. We cover together what she spent years facing: the incredibly webbed story of the Pentagon’s long classified study of UFOs, the Invisible College, hunting for objects in New Mexico, researching within secret Vatican archives and personally being surveilled by government agencies. We discuss her work under the cloak of danger – while living through a reality that was getting “weirder and weirder”. As her understanding of the new reality was being readjusted during her exploration, her beliefs too were adjusting alongside. We discuss the importance of art and of changing your conceptions, the suppression of knowledge as power, what Indigenous tribes all over the world already knew, the power of media message, the militarization of the narrative, the attraction of activities centred around the Bay area and the SRI Institute (remember Russell Targ?), the real mystical experience of Astronaut Edgar Mitchell and what he was up to on the moon … (oh, we’re not done yet) … creativity and external agents, human beings as sensors, off planet intelligence, Emergence, UFO Fight Club and technology as a new religion.

“Questioning builds a way”. BAM.

Listeners to this episode should DEFINITELY check out our episodes with Leslie Kean (112), Avi Loeb (105), Jeffrey Krypal (118), Dean Radin (122), Courtney Brown (131) and Br Guy Consolmagno (133).

Welcome back to Behind Greatness. We are joined today by Shehnaz Soni. Shehnaz is an Aerospace engineer for NASA and is currently working on the 1st ever human landing system – slated to be part of the Artemis moon mission in 2026. We are immediately touched by Shehnaz’s sparkle. She has a marvelous story that starts with a closed religious upbringing, to an arranged marriage, to a desperate situation in a new country to an education that led her to reach for the stars - literally. But, that’s just a small slice of this Rocket Scientist. We dive into many a topic: her quantum coaching, NASA’s lunar regulate harvest missions for travel to Mars, non-human intelligence interfering at launches, intuition and light, NPCs, the grocery store as a playground and a boundary-less existence of being.

09 Jun 202158. Colleen Moorehead - Chief Client Officer at Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP / Founder, The Judy Project – Feeling More Whole When Creating00:49:04

Colleen grew up in Rostock, Ontario (between Toronto & Detroit) where community was everything and farm-work for her was a outlet for fun and creative exploration. Even in this idyllic space Colleen found balance with her desire to “hussle” and grow her natural inclination for business and for working with people. Although strong in the sciences as a high-schooler, she found a path in business that led her to explore the waters of both senior corporate life and an explosive, rip-roaring entrepreneurial adventure as a co-founder of E*Trade in Canada. Shaking the financial world with a new approach to empowering customers via the emerging online world, Colleen saw how important it was – and is – to build community. We discuss how she leverages this not only in her present work, but with future executive leaders in The Judy Project she co-founded. Most importantly, we talk about something that brings Colleen back to her original world of exploration and creative escape in Rostock: the importance of creating those spaces for creative minds to practice, thrive and “feed” the world.

20 Jul 2022116. Dr. Orlando Gutierrez-Boronat – Co-Founder, Cuban Democratic Directorate (Directorio) – Overcoming the Beliefs of An Ideological Grip00:52:10

Orlando joins us from his home city of Miami. In a followup to last week’s scintillating talk with Luis Zuniga, we continue with Orlando in talking about living under a totalitarian regime and the peoples’ fight against the same. Orlando’s family lineage in Cuba traces back to 1492. Orlando explains how he and his Organization are trying to pierce through the communist armour of Cuba’s regime to get the message of hope, liberty and democracy to the Cuban people on his home island. We discuss infiltration of radio airwaves, the “escape” story of his own family, the grave political dangers of pork, evictions, the sacrifices of his parents and grandparents and the humiliating and punishing treatment of those who simply try to leave and those who rise up against. Orlando also stresses with us how tourism dollars into Cuba are directly deposited into military bank accounts and not necessarily into hospitals and schools and for the general welfare of the people. We learn from Orlando how the ideological cloak of the regime has started to wear and tear in modern times and how a continued push to show those living under crushing communist rule that beliefs are stronger than many think them to be.

We hear about blackholes as nature’s hard drive, the nature of existence and reality, his friendship with Dr. Edgar Mitchell (storied astronaut) and Dr. John Mack (famed Harvard psychiatrist) and their unique research, the quantum hologram, the alien breeding program, interaction with non-human intelligence post-Hiroshima/Nagasaki, changes in the brain post ufo-contact, and the important work of scientist Wilhelm Reich in quantum medicine and quantum engineering .

And we only got to swim in Rudy’s shallow end on this talk.

03 Mar 202144. Dr. Marjorie Woollacott – Neuroscientist / Author / President, AAPS – Having the Courage NOT to be Relevant00:54:29

Marjorie joins us from Sedona, Arizona. She grew up in a family where the wonder of music, art and literature defined much of her existence as a young girl. Armed with a natural intellectual curiosity and a profound admiration of both musical expression and scientific exploration, Marjorie embarked on both early on in her studies. As a young scientist she was inculcated by the materialist dogma of her field, until she became open to a specific experience. From that point on things changed for her – forever. We discuss self-affirming loops, mind-wandering networks and meditation, non-linear perspectives, the mystical realm, the mystery of dreaming and the near death experience. We examine the significance of having the courage to push through and explore what is new or defined as unpopular by conventional standards.

A conversation with an accomplished scientist who also leads a movement in the advancement of post-materialist science … sooo much fun.

22 Jun 2022112. Leslie Kean – Journalist, Best-Selling Author, Trailblazer – Pursuing Answers, Relentlessly01:01:07

Leslie joins us from NYC. She studied ornithology in her graduate studies in Massachusetts, moved to humanitarian work for Burma to radio show production in California to then freelance investigative journalism.

As a journalist she was able to publish her early work relating to UFOs in the Boston Globe in 2001 – and was struck by the deafening silence of response to her piece. But some did take notice …. She published a best selling book several years later and began to be invited by high level political officials and defence bureaucrats to help them understand what she was investigating and indeed finding. In 2017 she had found out about ATIIP, a secret program within the Pentagon to investigate UFOs. With the help of Luis Elizondo – a recently resigned lead in this program - she was shown documentation and videos on this program. She then worked with 2 journalist colleagues, Ralph Blumenthal and Helene Cooper and revealed these details through the NY Times (including the tic tac video). From there everything changed – the tide changed in Congress and with the general public interest in UFOs in the US, and the world around. We talk about radically changing beliefs by following curiosities. We discuss her work on her last book and the Netflix series that it inspired (and filmed by BreakThru Films) and how/why she was drawn by reincarnation cases and suggestion that we survive death. We discuss her beliefs on after-death, her personal experience with mediums, her experience with her deceased brother and her wish to delve more into the study of consciousness and human super-powers. She explains her gratitude for being able to spend the time and space to pursue truth and to help “shine the light on the irrationality of the skeptical mindset”.

21 Oct 202025 - Mervyn Allen – Partner, Lawyer at McMillan LLP – Seeing Writing as a Way to Achieve Immortality00:34:55

As a young boy, Merv and his siblings moved from a comfortable life in sunny, tropical Jamaica to Toronto. We learn about the strongest influences in his life: his polymath father and his fiercely dedicated mother. For them, high educational achievement for their kids was a basic expectation. But we also learn about Merv’s persistent pursuit of a career in elite track & field – and his love of languages and literature. As we peel back the “onion” that is Merv we see a man who has achieved great success in his current work on Bay St, but also a man who still heeds a call to make a deeper mark on human history - through art.

Nick Cook is the best-selling author of The Hunt For Zero Point and has been a writer for almost 4 decades, with 25 books to his name. Nick started his career as a journalist – where he first learned to ask the question: what am I now being shown? In this conversation, we dive head first -- into what we are, living in a simulation, sea monsters, a profound shared death experience, Edgar Mitchell’s telepathy experiment while on the moon, Nick’s relationship with Ingo Swann. We also discuss imagination, intuition and hunches, running free unfettered, thinking on a ladder and discovery through boredom.

Thanks for joining us again at Behind greatness. We are tuned in today with Paul Smith. Paul is a retired major in the US Army. He is most known as being a key member in the US government’s secret Psychic Espionage Program, Star Gate, during the 1980s and 90s. He is a leading expert on ESP, Remote Viewing and applied consciousness. He was only part of a handful of people trained by the father of remote viewing: Ingo Swann and he in turn became one of the few trainers in the unit of other remote viewers. Paul brings us through the Men in Black scenario of his recruitment at Fort Meade … to his time in the unit and the stories of his remote viewing exercises … to unofficially using his skills when he served in Desert Storm … and to his wife figuring out about his psychic military duties. We discuss non-local consciousness and the difficulties that main stream scientists still have with non-physical realities. We discuss applied intuition and ESP-informed intuition, bilocation and when Ingo Swann saved the world. We also learn about Pat Price (the country’s most capable remote viewer at the time and Police Commissioner) finding 4 presumed UFO bases on the planet in the 1970s using remote viewing - and Paul’s experience in remote viewing the same and his discussion of the “people” he viewed there.

See other remote viewers: Russell Targ (ep 80) , Dean Radin (ep 122), Stephan Schwartz (154, 155), Lyn Buchanan (ep163), Nancy DuTetre (167).

28 Dec 2022136. Jeremy Taggart – Former Drummer @ Our Lady Peace (OLP) / Broadcaster / Author / Podcaster – Hearing Where Things Can Go01:00:08

Welcome back to Behind Greatness. We are joined today by Jeremy Taggart. Jeremy was the original drummer for Our Lady Peace - a famed Rock band from Toronto. Jeremy grew up as the baby in the family in challenging and turbulent family circumstances. His one constant was baseball, and the dream of a successful pro baseball career – until it changed after he picked up a pair of used sticks as a teenager. He became a legitimate rockstar at the age of 17 in the early 1990s after he beat out 100 other would-be auditioning drummers for the part in the band. Soon after, he was touring the globe with his bandmates as the band tore up the scene and made a mark for themselves album after album. We learn about his dad’s advice, drive, discipline, the magic of live performance and being in union with the crowd. We talk about his experience in being “given gifts” when plugged into the ether – and his curiosity about sound in another dimension. To round it off, Jeremy shares a mind-altering story of time travelling through an OBE (out of body experience) when he was jamming with his band and how that opened up a portal of more of the same. M.i.nd. A.l.t.e.r.i.n.g. A fun, honest and open chat with an explorer.

11 Aug 202167. Federico Faggin – Scientist/Engineer/Inventor/Entrepreneur/Author – Knowing by Becoming What We Know00:58:20

Originally from Vicenza, Italy, Federico was born during WWII. As a little boy his family moved to a pre-industrial area of his region in order to escape the ravages of war. But there, little Federico soon developed a penchant for creating and building machines. As a young scientist, Federico moved to Silicon Valley where he invented and developed the 1st silicon designed micro-processor that was adopted by Intel to become industry standard. He became an entrepreneur and over the decades he founded widely successful companies where he continued to pioneer and invent, including the technology behind the touch pad and touchscreens for phones and tablets. He recounts an extremely profound out of body moment in his life in 1990 that forever changed the way he viewed the world and how he re-prioritized what was important to him. He has since then dedicated his life to supporting the science of consciousness – the marrying of science with spirituality. Get ready for a talk on the self, the quantum realm, the reality of reality, dreaming and consciousness.

30 Sep 202022 - Chris Duffin - Co-Founder & Chief Visionary Officer, Kabuki Strength - Finding Strength in the Physical, in Knowledge & in Art00:44:13

Today, we spend some time with Chris Duffin, in Portland, Oregon. During our discussion, we learn about a boy who endured extreme hardships growing up in the remote mountains of California. Barely out of his adolescence, he took custody of his younger siblings while working full-time, running a business on the weekends and completing his engineering degree. He is a father and a husband, an entrepreneur, a brand builder, an author, a speaker, a coach, a custom-vehicle builder AND a record-holding power lifter to boot. We learn about Chris’ refusal to define himself by his circumstances and his belief that he can create and form the world around him to dictate his own future and change his reality. Sounds crazy? He’s doing it.

Pay attention to the 3 simple things that were important to him growing up in those harsh conditions and how they were critical in laying down the foundation of the man he is today. “My real job is to be me”.

24 Feb 2023143. Dr. Gabor Maté, MD – Physician, Global Expert on Addiction & Trauma / Speaker / Best Selling Author – Embracing the Power in Being Disillusioned00:56:02

Welcome back to Behind Greatness. Today we sit down with famed Physician and Best Selling Author, Gabor Maté at his home in Vancouver – on Valentine’s Day no less. Gabor is a globally renowned speaker and writer on trauma, addiction and childhood development. He just released his latest book: The Myth of Normal. We delve right into it with a discussion on love and trauma. We hear about his thoughts on the medical profession and the disconnect in modern medicine’s view on mind and body, its lack of education on trauma and the absence of follow-through on the patient’s emotional life. We learn about Gabor’s early life in Hungary in the 1940s and 50s – a nation first over-run by fascism and then by the ideology of communism – and how that informed him throughout his life. We discuss “Big T” trauma and “Small T” trauma , trauma as the “puppet master” and how connection figures in as an antidote. We learn about his experience as a palliative care doctor and the “holy work” of being with people who are close to death. We weave through an intensely interesting discussion about diseases and their relationship to beliefs and about the sacred pain of being disillusioned. And we end with a beautiful chat about his thoughts on creativity, authenticity and “waking up” … and Vaslav Nijinsky.

A big thank you to a former guest, Dr. Jeffrey Rediger (ep 132) – and a shout-out to another lovely former guest, Dr. Thomas Verny (ep 121) … two Psychiatrists whose work was also featured in Gabor’s latest book.

14 Jul 202163. Bruno D’Amicis – Award-Winning Wilderness & Wildlife Photographer, Speaker, Author – Needing to be in the Here and Now01:00:08

Bruno grew up in the hustle and bustle, chaotic urban environment of Rome. He recounts with fondness the life-defining experiences as a young boy in his family visits to the dry, hot lands of southern Italy in Puglia and the green abundance of the mountain sides in Abruzzo. Keeping these memories close as he grew older, he moved to Berlin where he launched his career as a conservationist-wilderness-award-winning photographer and author. His accolades with the BBC, National Geographic, UNESCO etc helped propel his work and spread his message to more people than he could imagine as a young boy in Rome dreaming about just this. Spending years studying and observing what the natural world teaches, Bruno shares with us what he has learned from his years in the desert, in the mountains, in the forests and from his beloved wolves. For good measure, we get to discuss a couple of his transcendental experiences and on finding the majesty in the earth’s wisdom. We hear from Bruno how we are so closely linked with the living world and how we need to “re-awaken the grammar” in us to reconnect and find the union that has always existed.

01 Feb 2023140. Father Nathan Castle – Dominican Friar / Counselor to “Stuck Souls” in the Afterlife / Author / Podcaster – Crossing to the Other Side00:53:41

Welcome back to Behind Greatness. We are joined by Father Nathan Castle at his residence in Arizona. He is a Friar of Saint Dominic’s Order of Preachers for the Western Dominican Province. Father Nathan has a gift that he has been employing for 27 years – he helps stuck souls adjust to the afterlife. Father Nathan is often approached by souls who experienced a traumatic physical death to help them “get out the door” across the veil. We discuss his extraordinary communication with souls through his dreams and in his sessions: his gift of prophesy. We hear about his cosmic “mic tests” and the matching of waves of consciousness. We learn also about the mystics in his family, his green river of consciousness, the divine importance of creativity and disarming your brother vs vanquishing a foe. Even though he originally became a priest in spite of himself, he is a man of deep faith with an open heart and a no-nonsense sensibility you can only grow in Texas.
