02 Aug 2021Invest in Yourself with Dr. Elissa Hellman00:43:04

I talk with Dr. Elissa Hellman, OB-GYN, about the assumptions that doctors make about orthodox patients. She shares tips for getting over the stress and nervousness of going to the gynecologist, the safe place that is her office  and the things we should all know about how our bodies work.

As an experienced board-certified OBGYN, Dr. Elissa Hellman has been in clinical practice for over ten years.  She is also the physician at The Confident Kallah, a telemedicine gynecology practice focused on the needs of Jewish women who observe Taharas Hamishpacha.  Throughout her years as a clinician, she noticed a gap in women's health awareness and education.  This developed into a special interest in patient education and being a resource for the Jewish community in relation to body awareness and women's preventative health, starting from a young age.

17 Oct 2019Be Impactful Trailer00:02:34

Hi, I'm Rivky Itzkowitz I’m the founder and designer at Impact fashion and I’m the host here at Be Impactful, the show about women making an Impact in their own corners of the world. I started Impact fashion in November of 2016 so that the modest minded women in my community could feel empowered to put their best foot forward every day, regardless of their size. In the process of growing my business I’ve been fortunate enough to connect with women of all different types and from all different fields. And the main lesson I’ve learnt is that we are all just improvising. We’re going around doing the best we can with what we’ve got, feeling self conscious about what everyone else is accomplishing. The truth is, the people who you’re looking over your shoulder at are probably doing the exact same thing to someone else.
So let’s talk about the real nitty gritty in our lives and journeys and lift each other up by being just a bit more open. Join me and my guests as we try to figure out what it means to be impactful.

14 Jun 2021Starting Over with Kate Harvie01:00:31

I talk with Kate Harvie, an author and accident survivor, about the Traumatic Brain Injury that changed her life. She shares What it was like to be told she couldn’t go home, the spiral of telling yourself stories in your own head and why being so grateful to be alive didn’t necessarily work in her favor.

Kate Harvie was born to teach people how to tell their stories. She does this via writing, editing, marketing, brand strategy, and development online and offline. A graduate of law school, she is a startup founder and advocate for survivors of all kinds of trauma.

A published writer for online magazines, print publications, blogs, and the companies where she works and has worked in communications and strategy, Kate began in advertising at FutureBrand’s digital practice. She co-wrote curricula, vodcast scripts, and training dialogues at Sephora and for several cosmetic companies. As the community and content manager at The Phat Startup, she was responsible for the website’s content creation, editing, and ghostwriting. She works as a proofreader, copy editor, and developmental editor for independent publishers. Today she is the contributing writer for the Universal Hip Hop Museum.

Kate is a survivor of a traumatic brain injury. That is the impetus for her first book, Believe It and Behave It: How to Restart, Reset, and Reclaim Your Life. She is a singer, an advocate, and the person you want in your corner and on your speed dial.

30 Jan 2023Stand In Your Worth with Chelsea Bear00:36:33

I sit down with Chelsea Bear, a disability advocate with cerebral palsy, to talk about her life. She shares how she feels about people looking at her funny, the importance of language when it comes to talking about disabilities, and what body acceptance looks like with a disability.

Chelsea was born and raised in South Florida. When she was eight months old, her mom began to realize she wasn’t sitting up like the other babies in her mommy and me class, which led to years of doctor visits, MRI’s, cat scans, X-Rays and more. At the age of three, Chelsea was officially diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. Today, Chelsea uses social media to share her first-hand story of living with Cerebral Palsy. Her content is comprised of educational, fun and lighthearted posts that strive to create acceptance and awareness for people with disabilities. She’s certainly no stranger to adventure and aims to live her life to the fullest. Some of her favorite pastimes include traveling, learning adaptive exercises, writing, going on walks, drinking red wine, spending time with family and friends, and much more!

24 Sep 2024Starting Over with Anika Pavel00:40:58

Rivky sits down with author Anika Pavel to talk about her life. She shares what it was like growing up under communism and how she was able to get out, why she doesn’t believe in age when you’re too young or too old and why she wanted to write a book you could easily put down.

ANIKA PAVEL was born Jarmila Kocvarova in Czechoslovakia. What was intended as a one-year stay in England turned her into a refugee when the Soviet Union invaded her homeland, writing a bloody end to the Prague Spring. She received a crash course in life that took her from sleeping in a telephone booth at the Victoria railway station in London to waitressing, to the lights of the fashion runway, and on to magazine covers, even a James Bond appearance, under the more pronounceable moniker, Anika Pavel. When the lights had dimmed, she returned to her first love, writing. Her work has been published in print, online and nominated for a Pushcart Prize.

06 Mar 2023Community Power with Keshet Starr, Esq.00:53:37

I sit down with Keshet Starr, the CEO of ORA to discuss how her work has changed in the 2 years since #freechava. We discuss a specific case happening now in Bergen county, the line between tough negotiator and get refuser, how this all gets even tougher when you know the parties involved and how using a get as a bargaining chip leads to worse outcomes for everyone.

Keshet Starr, Esq., is the CEO of the Organization for the Resolution of Agunot (ORA), the nonprofit organization addressing the agunah (Jewish divorce refusal) crisis on a case-by-case basis worldwide.  At ORA, Keshet oversees advocacy and early intervention initiatives designed to assist individuals seeking a Jewish divorce, along with prevention initiatives to eliminate abuse from the Jewish divorce process. Keshet has written for outlets such as the Times of Israel, The Forward and Haaretz, and frequently presents on issues related to Jewish divorce, domestic abuse, and the intersection between civil and religious divorce processes. Keshet has also authored academic work focused on get refusal and domestic abuse, and is a Wexner Field Fellow.  A graduate of the University of Michigan and the University of Pennsylvania Law School, Keshet lives in central New Jersey with her husband and children.
