27 Nov 2020Holiday Traditions00:41:37
We hope you all had a happy Thanksgiving and had a chance to reflect on all God has given us (even in spite of how crazy 2020 has been).  And speaking of gratitude, we are so thankful for you and that you all are tuning in!  We strive to be intentional in our lives and part of that intentionality is displayed in how we celebrate holidays and make memories as a family.  We want to share some of those habits we’ve been doing as well as hear from you all on holiday traditions your families hold near and dear.  As we celebrate the Advent season and Christmas right around the corner, we encourage you to seek out how God can use you to be a blessing for others.  Let us know what you thought of our traditions and connect with us below on social media!  GOD BLESS!

29 Jan 2021What Convicts Us00:54:07
Hey friends!  This episode gets a little juicy as we open up our hearts--our souls--to you in attempt to express the things that convict us to our core.  It is important to understand where we are coming from when we speak of convictions.  We are Bible-believing followers of Jesus and we choose to trust Him instead of the world as our standard of truth.  That foundation is what we are building on and motivated by in our convictions.  The word "conviction" means more than just a feeling or an opinion.  It is a deep-seated passion that remains constant regardless of popular opinion or societal norms.  We pray this blesses you and encourages boldness in your faith.  Lord bless!

30 Oct 2020Seeing Halloween Through a Biblical Filter01:08:43
How should Bible-believing followers of Jesus respond to Halloween? Is it a harmless holiday for candy and costumes, or is there a deeper evil and spiritual darkness behind it? Join us and our mentor, Darry, as we discuss some of the origins and meaning behind Halloween and how the spiritual realm plays a role in this holiday. It’s our prayer that we would handle this topic with grace and truth, as is our goal with everything. We hope you are encouraged by this episode!

27 Mar 2021A Discussion on Postpartum Depression00:46:39
Thank you all for your questions and perspectives for this episode!  We learned a ton and hope you found our discussion beneficial for you if you've ever walked (or are now walking) in a season of anger, frustration, uncertainty, or worry due to postpartum depression.  It is totally possible and normal for fathers to experience the ripple effects of this also, and their feelings should not be stifled.  Press into the Lord Jesus with your spouse and communicate your hearts to one another during a time of peace and clarity of thought.  May the lessons we learned encourage, empower, equip, and and enable you to better serve and love those in your life who may be wrestling with the whirlwind of postpartum emotions that come with being a new parent.  Lord bless!

Verse of the Day: “And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites.  For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others.  Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.  But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret.  And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.  And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words.  Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him." - Matthew 6:5-8

05 Jun 201911: A Discussion on Evolution and Creation01:12:33
We asked and you answered... In this week’s episode, we take a look at some of the science and evidence supporting the case for Creation and the Genesis account. For the most part, society seems to accept the notion of macro-evolution because that is what the scientific community at large is promoting. Is there an agenda to all this? Is the evidence really there to support kinds changing into other kinds? Our youth today are naturally skeptical and tend to question everything. I mean, can you blame them? We live in a world of “fake news” and Face Tune; Photoshop and Instagram filters. It is GOOD to question what you’re taught and never just simply take someone’s word for it (Acts 17:11).Also, back by popular demand is our dear friend and mentor, Darry Nagel. Tune in as we take somewhat of a cursory tour of some of the questions evolution can not answer—such as, “How does something come from nothing?” and “How does life come from non-life (abiogenesis)?” These cannot be explained by natural means—but the Bible has provided answers to these questions and more (that are backed up and confirmed by science) all along.

08 May 20198: Avoiding The Trap Of Social Media00:40:07
This week’s episode hits home with us for several reasons. Being that so much of our livelihood and work comes from social media, it is hard at times to know where that happy medium of healthy social media consumption lies. Perhaps you’ve felt the toxic effects of social media in your life—whether deliberately or subconsciously. Maybe you’ve seen the great potential and purposes it can serve as an encouragement in your life or others. Still, maybe you’ve experienced a combination of good and bad. Regardless of your interaction with social media, there is no doubt it has influenced each of us in one way or another. We hope you find our discussion on this episode sobering and thought-provoking as you figure out how to make the best use of your time with social media.

15 Aug 201919: Back From Our Sabbatical: What God Revealed to Us00:39:16
We had an incredible getaway last week, and we are so grateful for all that God showed us along the journey.  If we can encourage you to do anything from this week's episode, it would be to retreat from the chaos and day to day stressors (just as Jesus did several times) and connect with God through the Holy Spirit and His Word.  In a world where we all run on empty so often, it is more important now than ever to hit the "pause" button and commune with the Lord in peace.  We pray for each of you listening to encounter the Lord in amazing ways as you seek to honor him with your time and habits.

26 Jun 201914: Being in a Slump00:40:43
Guys.  This is probably the most transparent episode we've done because we are in the midst of going through a slump currently.  I'm sure you'd agree its far better to be open and honest about life when you go through certain seasons instead of putting on a mask pretending everything is okay, because the more we let our walls down, the more God can use our situation to be a testimony of his goodness.  James 5:16 tells us to confess our sins to one another and pray for each other so that we may be healed.  If you're in the midst of a valley/slump/rut in life, know that you are not alone--the Lord will never leave or forsake you (Hebrews 13:5).  Trust in him and seek him in the trials.  He will bring you peace in spite of the chaos.

12 Jun 201912: Biblical Advice on Parenting01:02:41
As new parents ourselves, we are constantly seeking wisdom and advice from those who have been discipling and parenting their children much longer than us. It just so happens that our church is in the middle of a series on relationships, and this past week was all about parents and children! We utilized our sermon notes from the message preached by Pastor Brad Powell, because we thought what he said was too good not to share. Whether you’re a new parent like us, been a parent for a long time, or are even in a position of authority and influence over younger people, this message is for you. We also encourage you to listen to Brad’s entire message because he does such a great job communicating the truth of the Bible as it applies to parenting. Here’s the link to the full message:

24 Jul 201917: Doing vs Being: The Story of Mary and Martha00:36:25
In this episode, we focus on two tendencies we all have as people:  There are those who are "doers" (Martha) and those who are "be-ers" (Mary).  Think to yourself what you would do if Jesus told you he was coming over for dinner tonight.  What would be your first thought?  Would you scrub every inch of your house?  Put away the monster pile of laundry in your room?  Prepare the most scrumptious feast anyone has ever had?... Or would you simply leave all that on hold and just spend time with the Lord? Jesus makes it clear in Luke 10:38-42 which response brings him delight.  Mary chose to sit at the Lord's feet and spend quality time with him.  Martha was "distracted...anxious, and troubled about many things."  Serving absolutely has it's place in the life of the Christian, but if it's done with the wrong heart and motives, it is no good at all.  The simple act of being present in the moment and enjoying fellowship with people is what matters most.  Worry less about doing, and focus more on being.

Real Life versus Fiction
"Nothing is so beautiful and wonderful, nothing is so continually fresh and surprising, so full of sweet and perpetual ecstacy, as the good.
No desert is so dreary, monotonous, and boring as evil.
This is the truth about authentic good and evil.
With fictional good and evil it is the other way round. Fictional good is boring and flat, while fictional evil is varied and intriguing, attractive, profound, and full of charm."

03 Apr 20194: God's Will For You: Where Purpose and Passion Collide00:48:53
We've all heard the cliche saying, "God has a wonderful plan for your life," but if we're honest, most of the day-to-day, mundane tasks of life don't seem all that "wonderful."  In this episode, it's our hope to effectively share what it means to truly understand God's will for each and every one of us, so that you can walk in the joy of the Lord regardless of what you do.  While society puts money, power, and fame on the highest pedestals of success, the Christian worldview seeks to make relationship with Christ foundational, "so that in everything he might be preeminent."

31 Jul 201918: Taking a Sabbatical00:35:09
We all know vacations are essential to resting, recharging, and relaxing from the grind of work--but even vacationing can bring stress and anxiety with so many things to plan and places to go.  On this episode, we are talking about a trip we are taking as a family (dogs included!) around the beautiful state of Michigan.  Partially because we only get about 3 months of nice weather during the year, but mostly because we are taking a sabbatical (or spiritual retreat) to get away for a bit and hear from God on what his will is for us in the weeks and months ahead.  If you are contemplating some major life shifts--whether it be a job change, moving across the country, or stepping into a new role as a spouse or parent--we highly recommend retreating for at least a couple days to get away and clear your head for God to bring you truth from his word.  We will be sharing some of the insights we learn on next week's episode, so stay tuned!

29 May 201910: Our First Date00:44:02
***CRINGE WARNING*** Our first date story was nothing short of awkward with a little fun and silliness mixed in, so pretty much exactly what you'd expect.  Even though it's been nearly 7 years, we both remember the day like it was yesterday.  It's crazy how vivid memories can be when a significant life event happens.  If you're dating or actively seeking a potential mate, we hope this episode encourages you that there are still people out there who are committed to serving the Lord while in a dating relationship.  Don't settle or compromise your God-honoring convictions for any human relationship!  Examine the Faith, Family, and Physical Appearance (least important but still valid) of the other person and see how it aligns with what you seek in a God-fearing spouse.

20 Mar 20192: Pre-Marriage Expectations: Lessons We Learned00:54:44
Tune is as we share some stories about our background and upbringing, and how those experiences affected what expectations we brought to our marriage.  We gained a wealth of insight from going through a pre-marriage class at our church a few months before we got married, and we strongly recommend anyone listening and soon to be married to do the same!  In particular, we get into the details about how we handle household roles and responsibilities, parenting, finances, personal time with each other, and time with the Lord.  By no means do we have everything figured out, but God is continuing to work on us each day.  Enjoy! We had so much fun reading and answering your questions!  We plan on doing these sporadically from time-to-time, so let us know what you want us to answer next time.  This episode, we talk about a variety of things from awkward dating moments to how we make time for each other as we adjust to life as new parents.  Our goal with doing Q's and A's is to always be transparent and honest with you all, and make Jesus known through our lives.  Enjoy!

09 Oct 201923: Questions to Ponder For Major Life Decisions00:41:33
Its true what they say: You're either in the middle of a big decision, about to to make a bid decision, or just made a big decision. Whichever you fall under, we want to ask some questions that we think would be helpful to consider together as you move towards understanding God's will and your desire better. The Bible says God's word is a lamp to our feet and a light for our path (Psalm 119:105). It's our hope and prayer you meet every challenging decision with Scripture to guide you along the journey of life. Blessings!

If you're like us, you often regret a lot of the things you say.  Whether it be unkind or hurtful words, we all struggle to get control of our tongues.  The Apostle James gives us clarity and instruction on how we as Christians ought to submit to the Holy Spirit so that we are able to speak gently and lovingly to others.  Also, stay tuned as we announce some new things happening on this podcast in the future!  Prayers welcomed!

Hey y'all!  You are in for a treat on this episode.  We sat down with Jordan's cousin Steffen and his wife, Celeste to share some fun stories and dialogue on the culture today amongst young people and the next generation coming up behind Millennials.  Steffen has a decade of experience as a youth pastor in both South Florida and Washington D.C., and Celeste has been faithfully serving alongside him in ministry for years.  These two bring so much joy and nourishment to our lives, and we hope you are refreshed by their company on this episode!

17 Apr 20196: The Truth About Easter01:04:24
This might come as a surprise to you, but Easter is actually not all about bunnies and chocolate. In reality, Easter is the celebration of the greatest event in the history of the world—Jesus’ resurrection. In this special edition episode, we are joined by our friend and mentor, Darry Nagel, who has taught us not only what the Bible says, but how to study it for ourselves. Darry shares the true story of Easter from a Biblical perspective, and as always, brings it full-circle back to the Gospel. This Easter, we pray you discover the true meaning of the holiday, and enter into relationship with the God who conquered death on the cross 2,000 years ago.

15 Mar 202110 Christian Habits We Do and Don't Subscribe To01:21:12
Hey y'all!  Thanks for being here.  We had a blast with this episode, and as you can imagine, there's a ton we wanted to unpack as we share some of these things that are deeply important to us.  As a disclaimer, if there is something that we say we don't subscribe to, that doesn't mean we absolutely never do it, rather, we openly acknowledge it as wrong and (by God's grace) fight to rid it from our habitual nature.  In other words, we are not wanting to come off as hypocritical, and instead want to echo Paul's wording in Philippians 3:12 - "Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own."  What we have found to be true in our lives is that when we make the things of God (as revealed to us in His Word) a habit, then we are actually liberated and not restricted by bring Him honor.

12 Feb 2021Society' Ideas on Masculinity00:53:29
Hey everyone!  So glad you're here!!  On this episode, we wanted to take an honest look at some of the challenges, struggles, and ideologies that our culture is immersed in regarding what it means to be masculine.  In an age of questioning the past traditions in hopes of a better tomorrow, we who follow Jesus ought to be on the cutting edge of conversations that describe the roles, responsibilities, and philosophy of manliness.  In a world that has perverted and even manipulated what it means to be a man, husband, and father, it is our conviction to turn to the Scriptures as our one and only source of Truth in understanding manhood.  While the world forces husbands to be either dominating or pacifying in their marriage, the Bible gives a tertiary option to be a servant-leader.  While the world tells fathers to either straighten up their kids with harsh beatings or simply sit back and let your child parent YOU, the Word of God says to discipline in love, without provoking your children to anger (or trauma).  We only scratch the surface of the ways society has influenced manhood in this episode, but we hope it serves as a starting point for conversations in your own context.  As always, we are so grateful to God for your love and support!  It is mutual on our end, too.  For the glory of God alone! 18 Apr 2021Disciplining Children01:03:35
Hey friends! Thank you for being here as we share our hearts on some rather important (and debated) philosophies when it comes to disciplining children. We are limited in our direct experience as parents in that our children are very little, but we do have perspective from our childhood that we want to offer as teaching points as well. Our goal is not to tell you what is right and what is wrong, nor how you ought to discipline your own children, but merely to have a discussion and provide our two cents. If we can give you any tools to add to your parenting toolbelt, then our goal will be reached. May God grant you wisdom, patience, and love as you navigate what it means to parent well.

18 Jun 2021Marriage Boundaries01:02:16
One of the biggest breakthroughs in our relationship as husband and wife has come from setting healthy boundaries in our marriage. When we experienced the reality of setting up a system to protect, prevent, and prosper our relationship, it had a ripple effect on our relationship with our children, family, and friends as well. Of course the ultimate expression of relationship for those of us who belong to the Lord is to be in close fellowship with Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit. If this foundation is unstable, it makes for turbulence and discord in every other relationship. We want to share some lessons we’ve learned along the way in hopes of being a source of encouragement and admonition for those of us who seek to honor God in our relationships. Thank you for being here!

Greetings and God’s blessings on you, friends! We are super excited to share some thoughts about how we are intentionally raising our children to know the Lord. You may recall we did an episode about whether or not you should indoctrinate your children and this episode builds on that conversation. Once you decide how you and your spouse as a team are going to raise your children, it’s time to put together an intentional strategy to make that plan happen. This episode shares a little bit of our strategy and we hope it helps you as you consider these things in your own life.

27 Aug 2021Dry Seasons and Spiritual Refreshment (With a Special Guest)01:28:07
This week’s podcast episode focuses on various practical ways to break out of a dry
season spiritually. The important thing to remember as Christians is that we don’t have
to rush God’s timing. Of course we want to feel the Lord’s presence in amazing ways all
the time, but we also trust that there is purpose in the “valleys” and He will use it all for
His glory and our good. If you’ve been wanting to rekindle the fire in your spirit and walk
closer with the Lord, tune in to hear some resources and habits that have helped us
tremendously.

Verse of the Day:
“Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks
before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an
earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire,
but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.”

Do you ever meet someone and instantly become best friends? That's what happened when we met up with Chad and Tori after getting connected through mutual friends. While we have only hung out twice, it's as if we have been friends for a lifetime. Their passion for Jesus and genuine friendship is a huge encouragement for us and our family. We hope you enjoy our conversations of the first year of marriage and getting to hear some of the Masters' story on this exclusive episode. 22 Oct 2021GIRL TALK: God-Honoring Relationships + Healthy Comparison00:36:55
Hey friend! Welcome to a very special edition of AFM+MH. We are honored to have our dear friend Tori Masters join Milena for another installment of Girl Talk! This episode was especially enriching because of how much the conversation hit home. If you find yourself being robbed of joy and contentment due to struggling with comparing your life to the lives of others you may follow on social media or even interact with in real life, tune in to hear some Holy Spirit led encouragement. Additionally, the ladies share some tremendous insight on how to go about honoring the Lord in your relationships—whether it be dating, marriage, parent-child, friendship, or anything in between. God created us for community because He Himself is community. Let’s honor one another in our relationships as an expression of worship and obedience to the Lord. Lastly, don’t forget to give Tori and her husband Chad a follow on social media, check out their YouTube channel, and tune into their daily devotional podcast, The Messy Masterpiece, wherever you listen to podcasts! Lord richly bless you!

05 Nov 2021How to Rest Well01:17:18
Hey fam! Thank you for joining us on today’s episode! This topic of resting and allowing time for your body and mind to be refreshed is all too often overlooked in today’s society. With everything being driven by numbers and product output, it is important to remember that there are multiple ways to measure the performance and quality of something. Some of the best seasons of our lives have been the least “exciting,” in that we weren’t trying to grind and hustle so much that we lost the joy our efforts brought us. What does your current season of life look like as far as rest goes? Are you in a good rhythm of rest and labor, or could you (like us) take some steps to balance that better? We hope today’s discussion encourages you and ultimately guides you to find your rest in the Lord Jesus, because he calls us to come to him when we are weary and heavy burdened (Matt. 11:28-30).

19 Nov 2021Healthy Friendships, Loneliness, and Top Qualities to Look for in Friends00:45:59
Thank you for joining us on this special episode, friends! We have been blessed to have built some great relationships with friends who love Jesus and spur us on to love and good works throughout the years. But that doesn’t mean we haven’t experienced seasons of loneliness and hurt from friendships that have come and gone too. Thankfully, we trust the Lord to bring the right people into our lives at the right season, and He is always faithful to do just that. If you are struggling to find the right circle of people to call friends, ask God to begin bringing them into your life and don’t settle. Quality relationships take work and time to build, but we asked you all for some top qualities you look for in friendships, and it was so encouraging to us as we read your responses, so we wanted to share some of them in this episode. May God richly bless you!

04 Feb 2022You're Never Too Far Gone (Melanie's Testimony)00:58:10
Have you ever thought that you're beyond redemption because of the things you've done? We have, and so has Melanie, our dear sister who joins us today on the podcast to share some of the most vulnerable parts of her life in an effort to obey God's prompting in her life and also as an encouragement to you that you're never beyond redemption. God didn't wait for us to clean ourselves up to save us. Romans 5:8 tells us that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. He couldn't love you more than he already does! If you've been running away from Him towards all the wrong things, call upon Him and He will rescue you. And if you already know the Lord and feel you were once closer to God then you are now, His arms are open and eagerly waiting for your return to Him. Tommy Nelson once said, "You are not as good a sinner as Christ is a savior," and if you need that truth in your life today, then stay tuned for today's episode, and please share it with someone who needs to be encouraged as well. God richly bless you!

29 Apr 2022Girl Talk: Being Who Your Family Needs You to Be featuring Kirsten Watson00:45:33
Hey fam! Today’s episode is such a special one! We were honored to have Kirsten Watson join Milena to talk all things family, motherhood, and sometimes needing to slow down to ensure Christ remains central in our lives. As a mom of seven kids, wife of a professional athlete and cohost of a popular podcast, Kirsten is often asked by other women, “How do you do it?” They see her with her hands full and wonder, What keeps her going—and smiling—with everything she’s juggling? Kirsten’s answer begins with a simple first step: take a breath. The second step is also simple: lean in and understand that the Word of God gives us the breath we need to handle every situation because when we inhale God’s Word, we exhale peace. Be on the lookout for Kirsten’s new book—Sis, Take a Breath: Encouragement for the Woman Who’s Trying to Live and Love Well (but Secretly Just Wants to Take a Nap)—available everywhere on May 3rd, 2022.

06 May 2022Being Who Your Family Needs You to Be featuring Chad Masters00:51:12
You asked, and we delivered. Y’all have been loving the Girl Talk segments so much, that you requested a spin-off to feature a man’s perspective on some of these topics of family and marriage as well. So Jordan sat down with one of his good friends, Chad Masters, to share a little perspective on what it means to be intentional in your family’s life as the man of the house. We couldn’t think of a better guest to have on to discuss being who God has called you to be! If you are a guy listening to this, first off—mad props to you for agreeing to watch with your wife/fiancée/girlfriend lol. We pray this episode encourages you to keep seeking the role God would have you play in your family’s lives. And if you are one of the ladies tuning in, we’d love your feedback as well on if we should do a part 2 and/or occasionally cover other topics from a guy’s perspective. Be sure to follow Chad and his wife, Tori on YouTube and Instagram, and tune into their daily devotional podcast, Mornings with the Masters where they share Biblical encouragement and wisdom to help you grow in your devotion to the Lord. Also, keep an eye out for their new show, That’s H.O.T. podcast, where Chad and Tori have Honest, Open, and Transparent conversations with other guests on where faith meets real life. Blessings to you, friends!
14 May 2022Ways We Meet Each Other’s Needs01:02:00
Hey, fam! Thank you so much for tuning in! We are honored you’re here, and pray this episode brings some encouragement to you as you navigate what it looks like to serve one another and meet each other’s needs in a relationship. For men, we tend to be more problem-solving-focused and seek to be “Mr. Fix-It” when our significant other wants to be heard and validated more often than not. And for women, we sometimes feel like our significant other doesn’t listen or take what we say to heart, leaving us frustrated and feeling misunderstood. Thankfully, God’s Word gives us principles to adhere to while we discover what it means to serve our spouses and meet their needs. God bless you!

Verse of the Day:
“For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another.”

03 Jun 2022Weeding and Seeding Your Marriage Garden00:59:37
Hey AFM+MH Fam! Can you believe this is our 100th episode?! Your love and support over the years have blessed us beyond words. We are forever grateful to you all. In celebration of our 100th episode and as a small token of our appreciation, we would LOVE to give Starbucks coffee to the first 100 people who share this episode on their IG story! Just tag Milena, Jordan, and AFM+MH, and then send your email address in a direct message to AFM+MH on Instagram. ALSO--be on the lookout for an exciting announcement for an opportunity with XO Marriage in the coming weeks! Today's episode is based on a word our pastor gave last week--all about how we have "pulled weeds" in our marriage garden and replaced them with new, life-giving seeds. Marriage takes work, but that work yields some of the most beautiful harvests imaginable when we trust the Lord and put Him first in all things.

Verse of the Day:
"My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one." - John 17:20-22
10 Jun 2022Practicing Hospitality00:50:03
Hey friends! It's crazy to think this is our 101st episode together!! Since we've hit this milestone, we thought it would be a good idea to re-center one of our As For Me and My House "House Rules" by sharing about ways we implement hospitality to those around us. We specifically titled this episode PRACTICING Hospitality, because it is something that takes time and effort. Even if God has gifted you with a heart to be hospitable, sometimes we get so lost in the presentation or appearance of hospitality that we lose sight of the reason we do it in the first place. Tune in to some of the Scriptural references and our two cents on how we can be people who generously serve and open our homes up to others for the glory of God.

08 Jul 2022How to Not Become Jaded00:50:56
You don't have to live long to experience situations that can leave you hurt, suffering, and ultimately hard-hearted. In this episode, we look at some examples in Scripture of how certain characters handled adversity in a way that honored God when they had every reason to become jaded and bitter. Part of the human experience is going through trials, but thank God He provides us with the power to break free from cynicism and to not hold resentment in our hearts when we are continually wronged. May you rest in the power of Christ, for when we are weak, He is strong.

16 Sep 2022What We Wish We Knew Sooner: On Marriage00:37:01
Hello friends! Thanks so much for being here! This episode is the beginning of a new series we are going to implement from time to time on the show called, “What We Wish We Knew Sooner.” The heart behind this segment is to offer encouragement and perspective to those who are perhaps one stage behind us in life and are looking for a more fresh perspective than someone, say, from your parents’ generation. We are in no way saying that it’s a bad thing to go to much older folks for perspective (on the contrary we suggest you DO!), but our motive for this comes from a place in our hearts to mentor those behind us however we can. Tune in hear us share some things we wish we knew before getting married.

30 Sep 2022You Are More Than Your Trials Featuring Ezekiel Chapman01:10:31
Hello dear friends! Today we have a really special show because it features our good friend and brother in the Lord, Ezekiel Chapman, or “Zeke” for short. Zeke has been a family friend of ours for over nearly two decades and has quite a powerful testimony. He was on the show a few years back sharing about his struggles with suicidal thoughts and how Jesus met him where he was and not only saved his life, but his soul too. Zeke talks on the various creative outlets he is pursuing, to include sharing a never before publicly heard poem that he wrote over the course of 10 years and after being diagnosed with Bipolar disorder. You get to hear it here first and we consider that such an honor! If you wrestle with mental illness, dark thoughts, or perhaps know someone close to you who does, “Covina Vance” (Zeke’s artist name) has a lot of encouraging material coming soon in the form of reading and listening materials. You can find out more at the links below:

Verse of the Day:
“Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” - Hebrews‬ ‭4:14-16‬

Verse of the Day - Acts 2:42-47, “And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.”

09 Jan 2023New Year Same You00:33:30
Happy 2023 to the AFM+MH family! We missed you all so much and could hardly wait to be back with you. It is our hope that today's show serves as a refreshing encouragement and reminder that regardless of where you are on your New Year's resolution journey, you can find rest, peace, and assurance in Christ Jesus as your foundation for all things. While healthy lifestyle changes are good and noble pursuits, we must remind ourselves that our identity as followers of Jesus is found in knowing Him in relationship, and not in how many books we read or the calories we burn. God redeems us THEN makes us righteous, and then enables us to walk in the good works he has prepared for us. Maybe this is the year to actually stop striving for change by your own willpower and simply surrender to the Holy Spirit to work in and through you for His purposes. May He make that known to you this year.

16 Jan 2023Thoughts & Prayers - Demystifying Spiritual Gifts00:19:10
Today's episode is particularly exciting because we are introducing a new segment on the show called Thoughts & Prayers where we ponder audience-provided topics and hold hands in prayer before the Lord. These shorter-form episodes are inspired by emails, direct messages, and comments submitted by all you beautiful people tuning in. On occasion, when we aren't discussing various topics (like Spiritual Gifts) we will devote entire shows to praying specifically for your individual requests in succession. We will accomplish this while also being careful to not use last names or particular information that may give away the identities of those who are entrusting us to pray for them. If you have a "Thought" or "Prayer" you'd like to submit to us, email us at asformeandmyhousepodcast@gmail.com or message us on Instagram at @asformeandmyhousepodcast The Lord bless you and keep you!
27 Jan 2023Should You Stop Spending Time With God?00:44:57
When you close your eyes and imagine what it looks like to spend time with the Lord, what comes to mind? Are you at church? In your living room reading the Bible? Walking in nature marveling at creation? Singing songs of praise? Whatever your expression of spending quality time with God may look like, today’s episode seeks to upset some notions on what it truly means to “spend time with God” and also attempt to answer whether it’s even necessary to do so or not. As always, we are glad you are here, and may God richly bless you!

It brings us so much JOY to have our dear friend and sister Gabby on the show today to discuss how Good, Faithful, and True the Lord is even in the midst of many trials and adversities. May you be encouraged and comforted to know that God is our Great Healer and while we might not always experience that on this side of heaven, we know that those who are in Jesus have been healed from the great enemy of sin and death so that even the grave cannot hold us down.

If you’re looking for some very practical tips on how to simplify life and optimize your time with family at home, you’ll want to tune into today’s episode. We share a list of 10 things we’ve been working on this year so far and the results have been so life-changing. Oh, and if you want to see Milena laugh til she cries, that’s in this episode too.
20 Feb 2023Witnessing to Unsaved Parents featuring Brooklin White00:33:03
In a perfect world, there is no one who pours into you, cares for you, and invests in enriching your spiritual life more than your parents. We are even told in Deuteronomy 6 exactly how God desires for the family unit to interact together for the glory of God. But what happens when your parents fail in that? Or better yet, what do you do when your family doesn’t grow up knowing Jesus as Lord and Savior, and you are the first one drawn to God? How do you have those conversations with your family after they see a visible change in your life? Milena sits down with her good friend Brooklin to share some of her stories of how she has witnessed to her parents since becoming a follower of Jesus. We pray this encourages you to share the gospel with those in your sphere of influence—especially those closest to you.

27 Feb 2023Thoughts & Prayers: Sabbath Habits00:15:06
"The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath." - Jesus in Mark 2:27. Many Christians in the West have lost the Jewishness of our worldview due to being removed by time and physical proximity to the Holy Land. But what if we rediscovered the "why" behind some of the most ancient disciplines of our faith? How might that help us rekindle family time and healthy rhythms? You don't even need to make it a religious or spiritual experience to see the fruit that can be borne out of practicing healthy sabbath habits. We are cautious to not become legalistic or hyper-spiritualized in this discipline, but rather, see it as a way to reorder our priorities. So many of us put rhythms to our work, play, outings, etc., so why not have that same intentionality with our rest? Today, we share some practical things we do to make memories with our family during our Sabbath.

20 Mar 2023The Dangers of Gentle Parenting00:29:05
Hey friends! As you know we have been exploring and researching various approaches to parenting that seem to best reflect the Scriptural instructions given to us by God. For the last couple of years, we’ve been implementing many of the tenants of what is called “gentle parenting.” The term and movement itself if left undefined can be misleading and even unbiblical. In today’s episode, we seek to take the good attributes of gentle parenting into account while “spitting out the bones” of where it goes wrong. Our endgame is to Biblically parent and instruct our children in the way of the Lord, so that when they’re old, they will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6).

27 Mar 2023After A Fight With Your Spouse00:50:39
Hey friends! We are excited to bring you this episode because it hits home for us and no doubt many of you who are married and/or in a serious dating relationship. You don’t have to be together long to experience tension and struggle within your interpersonal dynamics. The good thing is, it is healthy and even at times necessary to work through such issues because it’s part of maturing and growing closer together. In this episode, we go through a recent “fight” we had and share some practical steps you can implement to seek resolution and reconciliation. Ultimately, with Jesus continually at the center of your relationship, there is no conflict too big that a humble heart and attitude of repentance before the Lord cannot resolve. “Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.” - 1 Peter‬ ‭4‬:‭8‬

26 May 2023Thoughts and Prayers: After You're Convicted00:15:30
Hello dear friends—thank you so much for joining us on this week’s show. As Christ-followers, we believe one of the most important disciplines we can practice is having a posture of repentance. Even after our conversion to Christ, we still do wrong and succumb to our flesh on the side of heaven. But by God‘s grace, He has already forgiven every sin of ours—past, present, and future. And while that is comforting news, we are to never take advantage of God’s grace as a license to stay stuck in our sinful ways. In this episode, we want to submit to you some steps we personally take in our walk with the Lord after we’ve been convicted by the Holy Spirit. Paul implores us to examine ourselves in the faith, and reminds us that God’s kindness is what leads us to repentance. As His children, we do not fear His discipline and correction, rather, we can boldly approach the Throne of Grace with confidence as we repetitively return to the feet of the cross.

16 Jun 2023Thoughts and Prayers: Praying the Scriptures through Adversity00:18:51
Hey friends—many of you know by now that we are currently walking in the middle of a pretty deep valley. We were expecting our 4th child to be born in late October, but sadly we found out we miscarried and our baby is now with the Lord. While we took several weeks to grieve and mourn, God has wrapped His arms around us and brought us tremendous comfort through His Word, even in spite of the most difficult of seasons we’ve experienced. We will share more about our journey of healing in the next episode later this week, but wanted to share some Scriptures we’ve really clung to during this episode of Thoughts & Prayers. We pray this will serve to bless and comfort you when you experience pain and hurt.

19 Jun 2023Healing After Miscarriage00:51:21
Dear friends,
Today’s episode is by far the most difficult one we’ve ever done, but it was absolutely needed. Fair warning—this discussion may be triggering if you’ve gone through a miscarriage, but our hope is to offer encouragement to you and your family that God is near to you in your pain. Jesus tells us in Matthew 5:4, “God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” May you find peace and strength in Jesus Christ who heals all things and will one day wipe every tear from our eyes when we get to heaven.
27 Jun 2023Rekindling With Your Spouse00:15:54
Hey friends, this week's episode is all about some practical ways we can reconnect with our spouse to grow deeper in your intimacy and affection. The Apostle Paul encourages believers to "outdo one another in honor" (Romans 12), and when your focus is to care for the needs of your spouse and vice versa, you are guaranteed to be blessed and be a blessing. Let us know in the comments what you do to grow deeper in your love with your spouse!
03 Jul 20236 Things We've Learned in 6 Years of Marriage00:40:57
Hey friends! We recently celebrated 6 years married, and while that might seem like a short amount of time to be wedded together, in this day and age we consider that a miracle by God’s grace. We’ve learned a few things along the way in our journey of marriage and have compiled a list of 6 things we’ve been really honing in on and (should) have as routine patterns in our lives at this time. Drop us a comment and add to our list what you’re learning in your marriage! And don’t forget to let us know your thoughts on the upcoming series we are planning to kick off next week! Be blessed.
14 Jul 2023Understanding the Spiritual Realm Part 1: Intro00:47:07
Dear AFM+MH Family--It is a joy and honor to bring you our first ever miniseries! It is our hope and prayer that this series builds up over the coming weeks and gets better with every episode to leave you eager for the subsequent episode. And we couldn't think of a better subject to discuss than the Spiritual Realm. Shrouded in mystery and misunderstanding, the Spirit Realm is a widely discussed topic in both the Church and pop culture. But how many of us really understand what's going on in the domain of the supernatural? In this introductory episode, we seek to set the stage for the rest of the series by explaining our motivation to delve into these subjects and where the Church has misunderstood some key elements of God's Word. We are so honored you are along for the ride with us and eager to see where the Lord takes us over the course of this series. Leave us a comment below to let us know your thoughts and what specifics you'd like to see us get into over the coming weeks. Be blessed!

Helpful Notes:
In this introductory episode, we cover some of the key players we find in the Biblical account of the Spirit Realm. The scriptures parse out multiple different kinds or classes of spiritual beings. The following is a list of the various types of beings and at least one scripture reference for where they appear in the Bible. Among the types of Angels (or Messengers of God), we find: Archangels (1 Thess. 4:16; Jude 9), Cherubim (Genesis 3:24; Ezekiel 10:4; Hebrews 9:5), Seraphim (Isaiah 6:2; Revelation 4:8), Fallen Angels (2 Peter 2:4; Jude 6; Revelation 12:7-9), and the Watchers (Daniel 4:13, 17, 23). Additionally, you see further subsets of spiritual beings referenced throughout the Bible, such as: Shedim (Deuteronomy 32:17, Psalm 106:37), Rephaim (Joshua 15:8, 18:16), Nephilim (Genesis 6:4), Principalities/Powers/Rulers of Darkness (Ephesians 6:12). It is our intention to examine some other ancient historic literature which is outside the canon of Scripture, but endorsed or directly quoted by the Biblical authors. It is important to note that while these extra-Biblical books may not be regarded as divinely inspired, that does not mean they aren't helpful in providing important context to help us gain a historical picture of what was going on in their culture and worldview as the Biblical authors wrote. For more on this subject, we refer you to Dr. Michael Heiser in this episode. Dr. Heiser sadly passed away earlier this year, but his legacy for the Kingdom continues on. Let's be students together on this subject and discover some amazing truths in God's Word!
21 Jul 2023Understanding the Spirit Realm Part II: The Three Rebellions00:34:33
If you were to ask a Bible-believing Christian, what the reason for all the evil in the world is, the answer you’ll most likely get is “Adam and Eve giving into temptation by the serpent.” While this is certainly a major part of the story, it is not the full answer. In today’s episode, we are continuing in our series on the spirit realm by taking a tour through three events detailed in the Bible which scholars have identified as “the three rebellions.” Dr. Michael Heiser is one of the most notable scholars who has done extensive work on the subject in his publications. For more on this topic, please check out his books—namely the Unseen Realm—and his podcast, The Naked Bible podcast. In the coming weeks, we will take a deep dive into each of these rebellions to get a better idea of what happened, why it happened, and how to better understand the world around us today in light of these events. it is an absolute joy and honor for us to study alongside you in these extremely fascinating topics. Lord Bless you!
08 Aug 2023The Spirit Realm Part III: The Serpent01:06:26
Welcome back for another installment of our series on the spiritual realm! If you are new to the show, welcome! You might want to check out the previous episodes in this series, as they build onto one another each week. So far the response has been overwhelmingly positive, and we are so glad y’all are enjoying this particular topic! It has been a blast for us to research and take a dive into this very interesting subject matter. This week we will examine the fall that took place in the Garden of Eden when the serpent tempted Eve. What’s really going on in this story, and what might’ve we missed in Sunday school? How can understanding this rebellion in its context help us know our Bible and know the Lord better? We are so glad you’re here, and hope you enjoy our take on this account from Genesis 3!
