16 Nov 2022 | George Sanger - VGM LEGEND - Interview | 00:52:27

Ten scary gaming myths and urban legends that rocked the gaming world. We look at how the E.T. Atari 2600 game almost destroyed an industry and was dumped in a landfill. Can you play as Rebecca in Resident Evil 2? Did Killswitch, a game that uninstalls itself actually exist? And lots more stories to get your teeth into! *Warning - this podcast contains adult themes (LOL) so it's up to you to shield your offspring or those of a sensitive disposition. Or let them loose on the madness!* Adult theme jokes aside we're back! With another gaming myths podcast! I'd like to say it's because the first one went so well but it's due to the fact that Adrian found too many to fit in one! Ha ha! This week we tackle myths concerning games uninstalling themselves, a certain Final Fantasy VIII theory and what actually happened to those "spare" copies of the Atari E.T among many other weird and wacky tales. We also laugh at our own conspiracy theories. Fancy discussing this podcast? Fancy suggesting a topic of conversation? 27 Feb 2020 | Creating Age of Empires - Matt Pritchard Interview | 01:42:00
Age of Empires (AoE) is one of the most important video games ever made. The series had sold 15 million units even before the third instalment! Matt Pritchard was a key cog in the Ensemble machine for the first two AoE games, his programming expertise vital in making them what they were. Lots of AoE chat and he also touches on his time at Valve and what Half Life 3 could have been (maybe still will be). His humility and refusal to pull any punches makes this a must-listen (well, we would say that). Fancy discussing this podcast? Fancy suggesting a topic of conversation? 20 Oct 2021 | Action 52 - Mario Gonzalez Interview - The Truth Behind the Worst Game of All Time! | 01:02:40
Action 52 is regarded by many as the worst NES games/carts of all time but my, does it have a fascinating story. Entrepreneur Vince Perri's foray into the video games industry was a mammoth 52 game compilation all on one NES cart. What resulted was a curious mix of games, many of which were unplayable. Adrian, furious at how The Cheetahmen never became mainstream, channeled this energy into tracking down Action 52 producer Mario Gonzalez for this fascinating insight into a cart which could have been the best NES cart of all time. 27 Aug 2020 | Australian Retro Gaming Takeover! Feat. Since Spacies, Sega Master Tim & The Top Loader | 02:02:29
This has been a long (ish) time coming. Covid poses its own problems but it also opens up new opportunities. We invited three of our mates from the other side of the world - ...Since Spacies (Brian); Sega Master Tim (Tim); and The Top Loader (Todd) - to do battle with us over the airwaves. Well, not quite... The boys join Ade and Dylan for a chat about SEGA, Nintendo, Brian and Tim working for the SEGA Hotline, what collecting means to us, why heart attacks are bad, Aussie slang (we're sure Adrian is NOT a drongo) and a few subjects we always cover on AA. Yeah, you know the ones! So sit back and enjoy a whopping two-hour chat with Australia's finest. Chris McAuley is a Northern Irish born author, comic book and gaming columnist who has now branched out from talking about comics to helping create them. An acclaimed colourist for 2000 AD and Marvel he has worked on flagship titles such as Judge Dredd, Roy of the Rovers and Hulkverines. He now works on the official Stoker Dracula comics. We thought it's about time we introduced you to our second-newest member (Retro Faith just pips him as the newest), Chris McAuley! Chris has done a lot of colouring work for Marvel and some of you may have bumped into him at a comic convention or two. His road to working for them and dev house Utomik is quite something! We've dragged him along to chat about his career, comics, games based on comics and how he came into our lives (and boy, does Adrian have a story to tell about that!) Next week we'll be discussing the history of comic books and their influence on games. We're also chatting about our favourite comic-based movies and games so be sure not to miss that one! 11 Jun 2020 | Streets of Rage / Bare Knuckle Pt.2 (SOR3, SORemake and SOR4) | 01:48:38
Warning: This pod contains adult themes, adult language and not our usual lovely selves (mostly our lovely selves). It's the moment you've been waiting for! Indeed, Rob throws everything he's got into supporting Streets of Rage 3 much to Dylan's disgust (he'll blame it on the beer, we'd probably say Dyl was just being an ass, ha ha!) The gang turn to Adrian to guide the discussion about Remake, which none of them have played. Adrian's sound difficulties also provide some much needed comic relief. And finally we discuss the game we've been waiting 24 years for confirmation of. One thing we cannot confirm is that Dyl doesn't work for Microsoft. You'll see what we mean... 02 Apr 2020 | The Retro Gaming Bunker Challenge - What are the Best Multiplayer Games? | 01:09:43
What are the best multiplayer video games ever made? Mario Kart, Mortal Kombat, GoldenEye or even Micro Machines? Well, imagine you are stuck in a bunker with 3 friends and you need 5 games to keep you all from going insane. That is the challenge in our latest podcast. In bad taste? Probably. But we're here to keep your spirits up as much as you do ours! The AA boys are trapped in Dylan's underground bunker as the world falls prey to coronavirus, but what do they need to survive? We've basically rehashed the Desert Island Diskettes episode (sorry Andy) with a multiplayer, coviddy, Norman Reedus twist. Our first ever 'remote' podcast went OK. And you've got Dylan doing an awful Keith impression to boot. **If you want to join Rob's 'virtual film meetup' group click here. You can also see what he looks like ;) Fancy discussing this podcast? 07 May 2020 | The Nintendo Wii & Wii U Console Chat - One of the Most Innovative Consoles | 01:09:02
How innovative was the Nintendo Wii!? Everyone seemed to own one and play Wii Sports. Why was this Nintendo console so popular? Plus, why was the Wii U such a failure? Enjoy our chat about both of these divisive game consoles. So here is the last of our pre-coviddy lockdown backlog podcasts and it's quite apt that we discuss the console that really brought people together. Even your grandparents. Nintendo struck gold with their motion-driven console, the Wii. But why was it so popular? We (wii?) discuss our favourite Wii moments as well as some of the console's key titles.
