29 Jul 2019How Fish Gets to Your Plate with Samuels Seafood, Introducing MONGER00:48:00

This week, Aquademia has two guests on the show: Joe Lasprogata and Bill Bradford, both of Samuels and Son Seafood. Bill is the host of Samuels Seafood's brand new seafood podcast, MONGER.

Hear about Joe and Bill's history, what inspired their podcast, and about Samuels and Son Seafood. We get into recent advancements in aquaculture and how Samuels plans to use them in the future.

"People don't realize how much of seafood is aquaculture. That's why it's so available, so high quality, it's consistently priced...Do some research yourself. Once you understand the product, you can start understanding organization like Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP), because it's very complex. You have to continually educate yourself. It's complicated, but it's very important and very worthwhile."

"In an odd way and in a good way, because aquaculture took so much heat over the years, they are more cognizant of what's going on. Now when you go to a farm or a site, they're very transparent, they're doing everything right."

07 Oct 2019Making Farmed Seafood a Household Name with Jennifer Bushman00:55:55

This episode is an enlightening lesson on how Jennifer Bushman has worked to improve the global reputation of sustainable aquaculture. Jennifer is a professional marketing strategist and consultant, and among her many accomplishments, is a member of the Global Aquaculture Alliance.

The Aquademia team walked away from this conversation feeling like we learned a lot from it, and we are sure you will, too.

"I look at the wine industry and the organic food movement have done, and I see these intersections of what we can do for aquaculture. I want to bring aquaculture to that platform."

13 Apr 2020Earth Month 2020 – Seafood & Global Climate Change Re-Release00:14:42

Climate Change is a controversial topic, but whatever your beliefs are surrounding it, the fact is that temperatures are rising, and food systems have a big connection with that change.

This episode touches on climate change basics, ocean acidification, food production alternatives, such as aquaculture, and we WE, as seafood lovers, can do TODAY to start making a change.

Experts who share their insight in this episode include GAA Executive Director Andrew Mallison and NCEAS Postdoc Halley Froehlich.
