About Alex: In July 2015, Alexandra began documenting her Heroine's Journey on LinkedIn. Every single thing that you'd be scared of sharing publicly, Alexandra either wrote about, videoed or spoke about over the years to disarm some of the societal conventions that keep these topics taboo. After finding herself in a leadership position at 24, she experienced a quarter-life crisis that led to leaving the corporate world and creating a new definition of success. Since then, Alexandra has been named LinkedIn Top Voice UK and become an official LinkedIn Learning Instructor with over half a million learners taking my courses. Shortly after, she co-created a side project called #LinkedInLocal, events inviting LinkedIn connections to meet in real life, which became the biggest hashtag campaign on LinkedIn. Creating communities in 100 countries and 1,000 cities with no budget before handing over the reins to LinkedIn. However, at the peak of her entrepreneurial career as a Leadership Trainer, LinkedIn Coach & International Keynote Speaker she suffered a miscarriage and was plunged into grief, triggering a Dark Night of the Soul where she lost her identity, career, relationship, and joie de vivre. From there Alexandra began taking an interest in how we deal with loss and what it can teach us about love and how to truly live. She began learning that creativity can be a pathway to healing, mythology can be the alchemy for transformation, and writing can be a way back home. Alexandra's healing journey led to a nine-month sabbatical at the start of 2023 to reconnect with her roots in Colombia and Morocco, researching family ancestry and genealogy. 01 Aug 2024 | #128 Coming back from your darkest day with Andy Coley | 00:51:16
Content Warning: This episode mentions attempted suicide and despair.
“If you put me back 13 years ago when I was going to run my car into a tree I never ever would have believed that this life I have right now is possible. I would have called you absolutely fucking bonkers to ever thought that was possible." Andy Coley
In today's episode, we have Andy Coley, who shares his story of his “epic life fail” as Life took over, ‘wrong’ decisions, foggy thinking, where everything felt out of control in the pursuit of being in full control. Andy shares the moment he felt like there was only one way out of it, and the moment he realised there was a better way.
We talk about how our inner voice can beat ourselves up, create unwanted noise, the constant chatter and how clarity comes in amongst the confusion. Andy shares how he found a new path through coaching and neuro linguistic programming (NLP), but it wasn't without the ups and downs of navigating a transformative journey.
Andy shares how being in control is sometimes more about letting go, and knowing you can trust yourself, rather than keeping a tight grip that is surfacing your progress.
“Don’t let life happen to you, be in control, but not so tight it hinders”
Here are the highlights: 05:35 Struggled with suicidal thoughts, found hope and support. 07:55 Inner turmoil and self-doubt overcome with help. 11:40 Seeking help and support to overcome debt. 16:02 Struggling business turned around through coaching and NLP. 18:32 Discussing the importance of therapy and coaching for help. 25:10 Struggled at boot camp, but found support. 30:18 Extensive NLP training business, coaching and team development. 31:33 Focus on leadership and management in business. 34:51 Motivational speaker focuses on impact, not money. 40:07 Seek and embrace support in tough times. 48:11 Take control of your life, make changes. Andy’s Another Door go-tosThe things that helped Andy navigate change. Books: “NLP at Work”, by Sue Knight Music: “Times Like These.” Foo Fighters The one piece of advice: “Get support and perspective. Find someone who's a good listener, not a good teller. Or journal, get it out of your head…just write it. Set your intentions for your future. Your unconscious mind needs some direction. What is it you'd love to have happen? What would you like it to be like in a year's time from where you are right now? Don’t be afraid to have bold goals for yourself. They are a signal to yourself that you mean it”.
About Andy Coley Andy is an award-winning TEDx speaker (he won TEDx speaker of the year last year) and is also an executive coach and leadership development trainer who works with major plc businesses, the NHS and organisations such as Meta, The Cabinet Office and a lot within the computer games industry.
He's currently working on a leadership development book which is due to hit the shelves in October 2024.

19 Sep 2024 | #130 Is a dream job possible, even when you close the door on a dream job? | 00:55:07
"I just started to ask myself, as many people do ‘Do I want to do this for another 20 years? Is there something else?’. I got curious, maybe there are some other doors I want to look through and maybe it's time to shut this door and find out." Does a dream job really exist? We’re joined by the seasoned journalist and career coach Rachel Schofield to talk about ‘dream jobs’. We explore the themes of unearthing core passions, overcoming imposter syndrome, and finding stability amidst the chaos of change. And what if you have, on paper, a dream job, but have a feeling there might be something else you want to do? Rachel shares her own story from a 20-year career at the BBC to creating a new career in coaching and training, offering insights and practical advice for anyone starting a new career chapter. Listen to rediscover joy in your work and the permission to experiment and try new things. “Maybe I'll go up to that tree house and see what's behind that door. Just go and take tiny little steps of experimentation. In career terms that might mean, I've often thought I'd like to do X. So let me go and talk to someone who does it. I've often thought it would be fun to be a graphic designer. So between now and Christmas, I'm going to do a weekly evening class at my local further education college. I don't have to be ready to upend my whole world. I'm just going to go and play.”
Here are the highlights: 04:15 Doubts arose about a lifelong TV news presenting career. 07:23 Career transitions evoke mixed emotions and considerations. 12:00 Transitioned from news to coaching; misses presenting. 18:56 Repurpose experience; embrace new directions confidently. 20:54 Juggling journalism, coaching and presentation training. 25:32 Embrace challenges; expertise grows through experience. 31:38 Coffee chat led to a book opportunity. 34:07 Social media fosters envy; practice graciousness instead. 36:45 Being last doesn't necessarily mean you failed.
Rachel Schofield’s Another Door go-tosThe things that helped Rachel navigate change. Book: ‘Big Magic’ by Elizabeth Gilbert. Music: ‘Closer to Fine’ by the Indigo Girls. The one piece of advice: "When you're thinking about particularly a career shift...really lean into experimentation. So rather than thinking you need to sit there and figure it all out...just think maybe I'll just knock on that blue door over there. Maybe I'll just look in that little tiny door that looks like a fairy door at the bottom of the tree."
About Rachel Schofield Rachel Schofield is a career coach, author, facilitator and speaker. Before making her very own career pivot, Rachel reported and presented for the BBC for over twenty years. Her book "The Career Change Guide: Five Steps to Finding Your Dream Job" was published by Penguin in 2023. 26 Jun 2024 | #124 The Power of Saying Yes to Opportunity (and the Joy of Accidental Careers) with Andrea McLean | 01:00:02
“It is never what happens to you, it’s how you react to it”
On this episode Andrea McLean, media coach and presenter, joins us to talk about early career doors that open and close for us that lead us, often unexpectedly, to define where our career goes. We talk about when life feels like a hall of mirrors, accidental careers, the people around us in moments of change, losing your dream job and not letting fear get in the way,
Andrea’s refreshing philosophy of saying yes and going with the flow is a good reminder to be open to opportunities, even if they don’t quite fit what you had in mind.
“Ask the question - will I regret saying no, why wouldn’t I say yes?”
Here are the highlights:
04:31 Mistakenly applied for a weather presenter job. 08:36 Editor resisted leaving for a new weather presenter job. 14:16 Overcoming challenges and taking calculated risks. 19:07 Sudden job loss caused confusion and disappointment. 22:54 Invited for an interview due to mistaken identity. 29:11 Every decision is personal, even in business. 43:59 A resilient person keeps bouncing back from failure. 45:39 Preparing for the worst-case scenarios can reduce fear. 48:13 Fear is a tiger; learn to walk alongside it. 57:11 Take small manageable steps for more progress.
Are you looking for speakers with a fresh voice for your next workshop or conference? Check out https://recommended.anotherdoor.co.uk Andrea’s Another Door go-tosThe things that helped Andrea navigate change. Books: Tao of Pooh by Benjamin Hoff, Girl, wash your face by Rachel Hollis, What am I missing? by Emma Reed Turrell Music: Kelly Clarkson - Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You), Foo Fighters - Times Like These The one piece of advice: “They say to take life one step at a time. I think too often we try to take 2 bigger steps. And if you visualise it this way, when you try and take a massive stride, you're so out of balance and you're so likely to fall over because you've taken this huge step. Whereas actually if you just take small manageable steps you will make so much more progress and you'll be so much more sure footed in what you're doing than trying to take huge big steps. So my bit of advice would be to relax. Don't think that every step you take needs to be massive.”

11 Jul 2024 | #126 Breaking free from toxic productivity to find joy | 00:43:27
"I was doing far too much and I had been doing far too much as long as I could remember. I didn't know the word burnout still at that point in time but I was burnt out and I needed to make a drastic change." In today's episode, we're joined by the incredible Tamu Thomas, who brings her wisdom and heart-centred approach to self-growth and healing. Tamu shares her story of transitioning from a high pressure, high stress career to a life more aligned with her core values, and a life filled with more joy. A move sparked by her battles with depression, anxiety, and a powerful wake-up call during a panic attack. We talk about her latest book, "Women Who Work Too Much," which is a rallying cry for women (actually anyone can read this and resonate!) to see their true selves beyond societal expectations. I loved the poetic and affirming notes in her book that seek to connect directly with the heart, and support you to break free from a toxic work culture. So often we don’t realise we are in that cycle, or that we have options. So join us for a deeply inspirational and soothing conversation about breaking free, finding our own rhythm, and embracing the beautiful messiness of life. "I thought there's no way in the world I am robbing my child of a vibrant, energetic, joyful mother. I want to make sure that I am role modelling for her something different, a ‘new form of womanhood’."
Here are the highlights:
04:44 Struggling single mum vows to work for herself. 07:38 Overcoming panic, burnout, and seeking personal growth. 10:11 Supporting women to work less, live more. 15:07 Seek help and support in your journey. 19:14 Plans to publish book developed naturally and unexpectedly. 22:58 Hay House supported book on challenging topics. 24:32 Clarity in understanding and expressing core values. 30:18 Investing in coaching, growth-minded friends, and transition. 32:35 Open up, connect, and explore new perspectives. 39:17 Book addresses shadow aspects of working too much.
Tamu Thomas’ Another Door go-tosThe things that helped Tamu navigate change. Books: “The Shadow Effect" by Deepak Chopra, Debbie Ford, and Marianne Williamson. “Return to Love" by Marianne Williamson** Music: “Love Will Save the Day" by Des-ree* The one piece of advice: “Look at the door in front of you. 25 Jul 2024 | #127 Coming Through The Other Side of Burnout | 01:01:32
“I know that burnout is preventable. I know that every single one of us can take steps to prevent it and to avoid it. I will say, perhaps somewhat oddly, for some of us, we have to get to that point of burnout in order for us to make the changes. I want to make burnout not be a thing, because we never reach it"
In today's episode is Kelly Swingler, ‘the burnoutologist’ and author of Mind The Gap: A Story of Burnout, Breakthrough and Beyond. Kelly shares her moment of burnout in a high pressure HR corporate role, and how she is now on a mission to banish burnout altogether as a place we never get to.
We explore the nuances of burnout, exploring the importance of preventative measures, introspection, and redefining success beyond material gains. We cover the significance of self-care, identity, and re-evaluating your values to prevent burnout. But most importantly we share an optimism than burnout does not need to be a thing.
"Who am I at my core? What are my values, my passions, my drivers, my strengths, what gets me out of bed in the morning? What motivates me? The closer we can get to that, the further away from burnout."
Here are the highlights:
01:39 Burnout can show up in our lives in so many different ways. 09:07 Plans changed, unexpected family expansion, and I faced an uncertain future. 11:29 Recognised the need to help others. 16:56 Clients feeling broken due to burnout. 30:16 If you are struggling with burnout, seek help from professionals. 48:08 Toxic power dynamics lead to stress and burnout. 53:17 Staying aligned prevents burnout from taking over.
Kelly’s Another Door go-tosThe things that helped Kelly navigate change. Books: "The Gifts of Imperfection" by Brene Brown Music: Any track by Pink The one piece of advice: “I would invite you to sit with the question. Who are you? And either…sit with a friend and just sit and ask the question or sit and journal with it? Speak it into your phone. Do it with a team member. Do it with a loved one. Do it with a child, family member, partner, whoever. “
About Kelly Kelly is a leading voice and expert in Burnout in the world of work. “My first Burnout made me seriously ill and my second almost killed me. When I left my in-house corporate career my replacement died in her sleep whilst away on a leadership residential. My work exists because no other Leader will experience Burnout or jeopardise their health for their career, and no other Leader will die.” Kelly has worked with employers such as Waitrose, John Lewis, Luminus Group, and Genesis Housing. Clients include Thomas Cook, NEWS UK, LUSH, Huawei, Tesco, Walsingham Support, BUNZL, M&S, Affinity Water, Reigate and Banstead Borough Borough Council, NHS, Dominos, LifePlus, Visa, Natwest, and Barclays. Kelly is a five-time author, and contributor for a variety of magazines, newspapers, and publications, and appears on radio and TV raising issues around burnout. Kelly’s mission is to banish Burnout in a changing world of work is what gets me out of bed each day. Find out more: https://www.kellyswingler.com/

“The problem with having ‘a corporate hangover’ is that it doesn't allow you to be authentically yourself. And in order to be a successful business owner, you need to be authentically yourself.”
On this episode we have Sarah Clarke, who closed a door on a corporate career after being made redundant and discovering she was pregnant for a second time. Sarah shares how motherhood and the redundancy gave her the impetus to start her own business. She now helps women start and grow their businesses as "The Happy Startup Coach."
"I kind of remember mulling over my idea for this new business with the friend I was staying with at the breakfast bar. I was like, well, you know, lots of people have really crappy returns to work, don't they?"
Here are the highlights:
04:26 Enjoying work, learning, culture change, OD and got the bug. 11:00 Taking a three-month contract to cover maternity pay after redundancy. 18:38 Prepare properly before taking action, gain clarity. 25:25 Navigating and caring for yourself through entrepreneurship. 30:34 Find your business coaching niche in yourself. 35:19 Reflect on passions, dislikes, and energising activities.
Sarah’s Another Door go-tosThe things that helped Sarah navigate change. Books: ‘Be a Free Range Human’ by Marianne Campbell and ‘The Source’ by Dr. Tara Swart Music: ‘Go your Own Way’, Fleetwood Mac The one piece of advice: “I wanted to take action. I wanted to do. Because you feel like you're taking back control of a crappy situation. If I could possibly recommend anything, I would recommend the opposite - to not do, to just be.”
