Send us a text

Welcome to this first episode of the "And What Else?" podcast with me, Wendy O'Beirne, also known as the Completion Coach! In this episode, I'll be sharing why I've chosen the name "And What Else?" for this podcast, and as part of that I'll be exploring how the generalisation of deep topics in today's world affects our abilities to understand our true needs, express ourselves authentically, and pursue more of our true passions.

I'll be sharing with you:

  • The problem with generalisations and how they can reduce massive topics into sound bites
  • The importance of going deeper than surface-level concerns and understanding what motivates us and holds us back
  • Going back to basics and thinking about whether our fundamental needs are being met
  • The need to reconsider what we think of as "success"
  • Why we should stop thinking things are either right or wrong and how this helps us to ask "And What Else?"

28 Mar 2023Learning v Development00:22:35

Send us a text

The name "The Completion Coach" was inspired by my own frustrations of things that were never started, desires and dreams that people didn't get around to and things that were left unfinished. I've been coaching for over six years now, and in the beginning I found myself noticing that my clients' commitment to completion dropped off after the coaching ended. Why was this? After analysing the data, I realised that if we don't deal with the emotional side and the subconscious, my clients couldn't achieve long lasting change as this fundamental piece of coaching was missing. Today's episode dives into this emotional side of human beings with curiosity and compassion.

I'll be talking about:

  • How to find what activates you
  • Assessing your boundaries and who is taking advantage of them
  • Self-development vs self-learning
  • All or nothing behaviour
  • Showing up for the bare minimum
  • Why identity tags prevent us from changing our behaviour

04 Apr 2023False Benefits00:17:03

Send us a text

Building on our discussion from last episode, false benefits are protective behaviours that feel good in the moment, but won't help you in the long term. The effect of these can range from inconvenient and time wasting (scrolling) to downright destructive (addictions). That's why it's so important to address these and to ask the right questions that will help you to understand why you carry out these behaviours which will enable you to move forward.

Today we'll be discussing:

  • What false benefits are and why our behaviour causes them
  • Why we behave in that way in the first place
  • The false benefits caused by procrastination and perfectionism
  • What authenticity is and isn't

11 Apr 2023Are You Burning Out on Your Way to Authenticity?00:22:21

Send us a text

Today we're diving deeper into a topic I touched on in episode 3 - authenticity. It's become a bit of a buzzword recently and often we're made to feel as though if we don't share all of ourselves, we're being inauthentic, untrustworthy and fake. Does this mean that as a personal brand, we should share every moment of our lives in order for people to trust us and buy from our brand? You can listen to all of my thoughts around this topic in today's episode.

We'll be discussing:

  • The language that you use around authenticity
  • Reframing the question of "how authentic am I?"
  • The different filters we naturally take on day-to-day
  • Honesty vs authenticity
  • Truly understanding your values
  • Your personal brand and the difference between you and your business
  • How chasing authenticity can lead to burnout

18 Apr 2023Bridging the Gap to Emotional Authenticity00:21:24

Send us a text

In last week's episode, we covered the topic of authenticity and how our values, what we want to grow about ourselves and how we can be honest with ourselves to ensure we aren't hitting the point of burnout. For today's episode, we're going a little deeper and discussing the layer of authenticity surrounding emotional authenticity in particular. If you ever feel like there's a disconnect between the things you say, how you behave and how you feel about things, this could be because you aren't fully doing the work on all aspects of authenticity.

Today we'll be covering:

  • The link between natural overachievers and accidental leaders
  • Internal conflicts between what you say, do and feel
  • Why your external and internal authenticity might not match up
  • Why you need to focus on personal AND professional development, not just one or the other
  • What imposter syndrome might actually mean for you
  • The biggest cause of inauthenticity

25 Apr 2023Transformation Requires You to be Tired00:23:26

Send us a text

This episode is aimed at a person in a certain part of their life. I know I've been there, and I'm pretty sure you will have been too - the person who says they want to make a change, has studied and researched how to make that change, talks about the change... but hasn't yet actually made the change. I'm not talking to people who have social, economic, time or any of the other pressures that mean the change is much harder to make - but to those who are feeling comfortable in their lives, would like to make the change, but have honestly got to a point where they are tired of their own shit. This episode might hit home a little, but that's where we like to go on "And What Else?"!

Today I'm breaking down:

  • How your discomfort isn't quite uncomfortable enough
  • Are you all talk & research but no action?
  • What loose language will cost you
  • The questions to ask yourself about the bridge you'll build to where you want to go
  • The true worst case scenario of change

02 May 2023Are You an Accidental Overachiever?00:27:22

Send us a text

There's a common thread that links all the clients who work with me and that's that they are often overachievers who feel like underachievers - and they also don't realise they're hyper-independent. If you're drawn to listening to my podcast and have enjoyed the first six episodes, this is likely you, too! People who have these struggles (without realising) are very disconnected from their emotions and are subconsciously doing this as a way to cope, leading them to be quite good at handling pressure and stress. People also may often come to them for assistance with stressful situations as they are very logical thinkers. Is any of this catching your attention? Listen in!

Today we'll be covering:

  • How your caregivers affected the way you handle your emotions now
  • Why overachieving gives you a feeling of self-worth
  • How your coping mechanisms are actually leading you to burn out
  • What fuels high standards, perfectionism and avoidance
  • Accidental leaders who feel they don't have leadership skills
  • The false benefit that comes from overachieving

09 May 2023Is Consumption Letting You Avoid Introspection?00:18:22

Send us a text

In today's world of over-consumption and instant gratification, it's so easy to dive into self-development and think you're going to get standardised outcomes in week 4, month 5 or year 2 or any other milestone you can think of. I'm here to tell you that that's not the case. It's a constant, ongoing process that you need to keep working at and being patient with. I find that we like to do an awful lot of education and appear as if we're making progress, but in actual fact we're just avoiding doing the actual application of what we've learned - which is the important bit!

Today, I'll be discussing:

  • Consumption vs application
  • The search for something new
  • The questions that might come up on your self-development journey and why they're the wrong ones
  • Letting go of distractions and getting into your ugly truth
  • Observing vs judging
  • How much honesty are you prepared to put in?

16 May 2023Working Hard to Avoid Your Feelings?00:29:05

Send us a text

The main link between everyone I work with one-to-one is being an overachiever because it soothes their emotional avoidance. This is what has created their success and they are usually masking some level of high-functioning anxiety without even knowing they're doing it. They are dependable, good in a crisis and know their stuff. But eventually, they'll hit emotional burnout  and this is when they come to work with me. If this is landing for you, just know that you're not alone!

In today's episode, we're covering:

  • The effect of emotional avoidance on success
  • Emotional burnout vs physical burnout
  • How the human experience, though individual, actually connects us
  • The truth about what empaths really are
  • Not knowing what to do with your emotions

23 May 2023Under The Influence00:20:03

Send us a text

Firstly, I can't believe we're in double figures in the podcast now! In episode 10, I'm diving deeper into those ingrained thoughts that we have about ourselves - "I'm not someone who...", "I can't do...", "I don't wear..." and discussing how we've come to those conclusions and what happens if we consider the alternatives. This episode was inspired by a couple of quotes I've heard recently around being the byproduct of the five people you're surrounded with most and why we say we don't like things when we've never tried them. I always love looking at alternative angles so if you're ready to question whether you really don't like marmite or have just been influenced by someone else, this episode is for you!

Today I'm talking about:

  • Outsourcing ourselves for validation
  • Holding ourselves back when in certain environments
  • Why it's important to be surrounded by people who have different viewpoints
  • The influences that we come under in our daily lives
  • Challenging yourself when you say "I don't like that"

30 May 2023Do You Have a Choice?00:21:48

Send us a text

"Feeling stuck" is something that comes up a lot for my one-to-one clients. We feel like things are beyond us, there's nothing we can do and that it's not our fault that these things keeps happening to us. We feel like we have no more choices or decisions left and we are just waiting for life to make its decisions for us. However, what I've found is actually the case is that if you're feeling stuck, you're actually just making the same decision over and over again, thinking that this is just the way things have to be and are acting on autopilot. We need to move from making decisions out of frustration to making them out of desire! Is "stuck" a word you would use to describe your day-to-day? Jump in to today's episode!

Today I'll be diving into:

  • Feeling like you have no choices
  • What happens when we approach our lives from an unresourced place
  • Conflict avoidance
  • Making decisions from a place of frustration vs a place of desire

06 Jun 2023Does It Mean That?00:20:54

Send us a text

There's so many times in our lives where we attach meaning to things that don't really need to mean anything - particularly numbers. We're this size so it means this, what it means about people who have X amount of friends, how much money we have in the bank means this about us, and it's so interesting that we can take a situation, attach a number to it and suddenly it means something about us and the way we live our lives. It fascinates me on so many levels because the meaning we attach to something is so much bigger than what is actually going on!

Today I'm covering:

  • Attaching meaning to numbers in our lives
  • How other people can plant seeds and change our beliefs
  • Examples from my own life where people have made my decision (or non-decision!) mean something
  • Knowing our values, how they look externally and how we deal with them internally

13 Jun 2023What Are You Controlling?00:20:44

Send us a text

In the last episode, we touched on what we "make things mean" in our lives, which is a huge part of any coaching relationship. If we find that we're being reactive, self-sabotaging or unable to make changes that we want to make, the thing that gets in the way more often than not is "what we're making it mean" that we don't realise we're making it mean.

Today we're going into:

  • Generalisations and how they help us avoid what we're really doing
  • Developing controlling behaviours of self-sabotage
  • The fear of what having the perks of a change means about you
  • Internal childlike conflict

20 Jun 2023What If It's Not Negative?00:16:14

Send us a text

Over the years, there's a response I've noticed people receive when they say they are in coaching or therapy and that's that they're mentally weak, have poor mental health, been through something awful or are suffering with grief or abuse. It's often seen as more of a negative thing that they need help, rather than a positive thing. I've experienced it myself, when I see judgement on people's faces when they hear what I do. What I want to touch on in today's episode, is that I really don't think it's a negative thing at all! To be willing to do the inner work, be open-minded about healing parts of yourself that you didn't even know were unhealed and being aware of things in your life you'd like to change, makes you such a strong, coachable person.

Today I'm covering:

  • The idea that coaching or therapy is negative
  • Being as conscious of your mental health as you are of your physical health
  • What causes people reach out to therapists and coaches
  • Being open-minded enough to be willing to get help to make changes in your life

27 Jun 2023There is Always an "And"00:22:48

Send us a text

Even when you're in self-development and have done a lot of the internal work, explored your blocks, beliefs and limits, something we all have in common is the human experience - part of being alive! Sometimes life throws all sort of different things at us - something goes wrong while we're on holiday, a podcast episode doesn't save correctly, or you're having a brilliant day at work and pick up your phone to find bad news - and part of being a human being is learning how to cope with all of this. We all go through it, but some people appear to go through it easier than others - why is that? That's the topic I'll be exploring in today's episode, so if you feel like it takes you 3 days to come back after a setback, you'll want to listen in to this one!

Today we're diving into:

  • The highs and lows of the human experience
  • Flexible discipline and consistency vs constancy
  • Replacing the word "but" with "and"
  • Cut my nose off to spite my face" energy

04 Jul 2023The Importance of Self-Trust00:28:41

Send us a text

Today I'm wanting to talk about the topic of self trust and how important it is - even though it's not a logical thing at all. Trust in itself is not logical, it's really just a feeling that we get through actions and we can't always put a finger on what the exact feeling is, but we just have a knowing around. People are always quite baffled as to why they don't trust themselves which comes out in an emotional, young response. I have a lot of thoughts on this topic so if you feel like you might not trust yourself, listen in!

In this episode I'm chatting about:

  • The importance of self-trust and why it isn't logical
  • The idea that it takes 21 days to form or break a habit
  • Your true self vs your presented self in different systems
  • Repairing when someone reacts badly

11 Jul 2023The Sound of Silence00:21:07

Send us a text

Today's post is inspired by a post I made a few weeks ago, where I talked about the silence of people that can't cheer for you and how you may only be cheering for yourself in secret. Consider the reasons that you aren't cheering for yourself publicly - do you feel like what you're doing isn't big enough, important enough or that people won't like it or understand? There are so many reasons, and all of them are holding you back from celebrating yourself out in the open, which we need to do if we're going to reconfigure the way we're storing data about ourselves. It's a really important topic, so if you wish you could be more open and proud about your achievements, jump in to today's episode.

Today we're diving into:

  • Why you might be holding yourself back from supporting yourself publicly
  • Refusing to acknowledge what you have achieved
  • The reason we might struggle to celebrate other people
  • Why you are muting people who activate you
  • Gatekeeper energies

18 Jul 2023What Thread Got Pulled?00:20:06

Send us a text

Have you joined Threads yet? Did you read those pesky terms and conditions before you accepted your account there, or did you just dive in head first? I have a feeling I know what your answer is! I've joined, and (surprise!) I also didn't read the T&Cs. All the discussion around the new app, the way it's linked with Instagram and hasn't launched in the EU because of data security concerns have prompted a whole lot of internal thoughts for me that I wanted to share with you. And it led me to relate this all back to us as humans, how we often ignore things and pretend that we won't have to worry about them. It's definitely an in depth topic that I'm only skimming over today, but if you've been drawn into all the Threads excitement, today's episode might just give you pause to step back and really think about what you're giving your energy to in the future.

Today we'll be chatting about:

  • The mindset of being an early adopter of Threads
  • Reading the terms and conditions before signing up for things
  • People talking about acting differently on Threads (and asking others to change, too)
  • How social media is like reality TV

25 Jul 2023Zooming Out to Truly See In00:13:06

Send us a text

With almost perfect timing, I "recorded" this episode without actually pressing record - so this version is my second one! It ties in amazingly with the topic I'm discussing today which is about what is in your control. I've had a lot of conversations with people recently about things we feel are outside of our control, getting frustrated by things happening based on others' decisions and a lot of comments of "it's not my fault" and "what else can I do". These are such highly emotive statements and feelings, and so often people just give up at this people and don't actually take steps towards the thing they think they can't have, but do actually want. Is this resonating with you? Tune into today's episode to hear my thoughts on what's really in your control.

In today's episode, we're covering:

  • The way I really feel about my podcast!
  • The "when X happens, things will change" thought process
  • What true self-care really is
  • Why we talk critically to ourselves

01 Aug 2023What Are You Distracted From?00:18:21

Send us a text

Way back in some of my earlier episodes I spoke about generalisations and how they allow us to focus on other things and keep ourselves distracted. While we're focusing on our distractions, it allows us to completely ignore what we really need to look at. This is the basis of all the coaching I do and I'm often saying the phrase "the presenting problem is never the problem". In today's episode, I'm going into why we can't just force ourselves to carry out the steps that we think we can see to "fix" our distractions and why we can't do this from a place of frustration. Tune in to find out more!

Today I'm diving into:

  • The fact that we humans love distractions
  • Why our distractions aren't the problem we need to focus on
  • Dealing with the emotional residue of why we aren't taking the steps we need to take
  • Why we don't want to follow our frustration

08 Aug 2023Are You Strong But Feel Weak?00:13:16

Send us a text

I wanted to start the conversation today around the topic of hyper-independence. I haven't fully percolated on it yet, but it's a really important discussion for us to have as there are many people out there who feel they have to make decisions alone, otherwise they think they'll be a burden or be abandoned. They don't feel like they belong anywhere and so they face the world alone, without letting anyone else in. It can be a really hard position to be in, so I wanted to open up the discussion today and I would love to hear from you if you feel like you have something you'd like to add to it!

Today I'm discussing:

  • What is hyper-independence?
  • Why others see hyper-independent people as strong and capable, but they feel weak inside
  • The difference between alone and lonely
  • How hyper-independence develops from childhood

15 Aug 2023Talking Hyper-Independence with Dr Sophie Mort00:43:26

Send us a text

Welcome to the first ever guest episode on "And What Else?"! Today I'm joined by the wonderful Dr Sophie Mort, who is a registered Clinical Psychologist and Sunday Times Bestselling Author. Our conversation went in depth on a lot of topics I've touched on in the podcast before, such as hyper-independence and distracting yourself from the real problems. Sophie is also the British Mental Health Expert at Headspace and her aim is to break down and share the information usually kept behind closed therapy room doors, inside stuffy old textbooks, and in the ivory towers of universities. This conversation will be sure to keep you thinking on how you can start to prevent rock bottom moments, build your way up to being rejection-proof (it's not actually what you think!) and how you can teach yourself to embrace rest. If there's anyone in particular you think would be great for me to interview on the podcast, please send their details my way!

Today Sophie and I are discussing:

  • Being proactive with your mental health
  • Hyper-independence as a coping strategy in different life areas
  • Productivity anxiety and the feeling of not doing enough
  • Overcorrection and intergenerational patterns
  • The fear of death and if it's actually a fear of not having lived
  • Rejection therapy and aiming for average

You can find Dr Soph on her website at https://drsoph.com/, on Instagram @_drsoph. Her books, Unstuck and A Manual for Being Human can be purchased through links found on her website.

22 Aug 2023Trust, FOMO and Deciding What to Share, with Sarah Gold00:45:16

Send us a text

Trust is such a monumental part of being human - who do we trust, who don't we trust, which businesses do we trust, where do we put our trust aside and take the risk, do we know fully what we are putting our trust into or have we been misled? It's a massive topic with a huge number of avenues to go down, but in today's podcast episode I'm joined by Sarah Gold, who is founder of a web design and strategy company called Projects By If. Her aim is to help organisations and individuals design trust into data enabled services. She wants to make trustworthiness in the products and services we all rely on the expectation and not the exception. This conversation builds on a few solo episodes I've had on the podcast before, so if you enjoyed episode 18, "What Thread Got Pulled?" or episode 4, "Are You Burning Out on Your Way to Authenticity?", you'll be sure to love this one!

Today Sarah and I are chatting about:

  • Who and what we trust and where we are more or less concerned about it
  • Where FOMO and digital platforms encourage us to put our trust to one side
  • Our loss of patience as humans and adding friction into choices
  • Sharing personal data and stories with others
  • Separating yourself from your personal brand
  • Gaining your customers' trust as a business

If you loved this conversation or want to work with Sarah, you can connect with her on LinkedIn here or on her website, projectsbyif.com.

29 Aug 2023Are You Taken Over By Responsibility?00:17:22

Send us a text

A big part of hyper-independence protection levels is over-responsibility - having an innate need to try to control all aspects of your life, for yourself and other people, in the hope that if you take on that responsibility, you can prevent anything bad happening around you. What we often find though, is this never actually happens. It doesn't reduce your anxiety and you end up making decisions alone because at least that way, if something goes wrong you can say "it's on me". It's a really complex topic that I'm only brushing the surface of today, but it's so important because it can cause a lot of overwhelm, fear of taking time off and burnout. If this is sounding all too familiar, dive into today's episode!

Today I'm talking about:

  • Over-responsibility and trying to control everything in your life
  • Perfectionism and the different avenues it can show up in
  • Operating from within high-functioning anxiety and false regulation
  • The balance of masculine and feminine energies
  • My October retreat!

05 Sep 2023Why You Might Be Worrying00:13:08

Send us a text

If you have high-functioning anxiety, over-thinking, over-worrying and over-responsibility are probably going to be familiar to you. They make us think about made-up scenarios in negative ways, which have a reaction in the body and cause panic and overwhelm and make us behave in ways that we wouldn't have otherwise. It's so important to get to the root of your generalisations, and so in today's episode I'm sharing a bit about a recent client I had who I helped stop the excessive worry and over-thinking. She's given me permission to share a little about how these traits affected her and what overcoming it has allowed her to feel instead.

Today I'll be discussing:

  • Common traits for high-functioning anxiety
  • The impact of worry on the nervous system
  • What you subconsciously believe worrying excessively is helping you to do
  • Finding out what's really going on behind your generalisations

If you've enjoyed this episode, please leave me a review and subscribe! And if you want to learn more from me, come and say hello on Instagram @thecompletioncoach or via email at wendy@thecompletioncoach.co.uk or find out more about working with me on my website, thecompletioncoach.co.uk.

12 Sep 2023What is it Affording You?00:20:11

Send us a text

Today's conversation is one you need to brace yourself for - and I'm kindly asking you to listen all the way to the end before you make any reactionary responses! We're going deep into what your investments are costing you or affording you. And I'm not just talking about the monetary cost of investing in self-development or coaching - there are so many hidden rewards or risks that come with choosing to make different types of investments. It's all about what the return is for you and whether that return is worth it for you in the life you are living now and the life you want to live. I'll be giving examples from my own life in this episode so if you're interested in applying this topic to yourself, tune in now!

Today I'm chatting about:

  • Our most precious investments
  • Things that are high-cost for you (not just from a monetary point of view!)
  • What we value and how our values can shift over time
  • Owning what you value and what you see as important to you
  • Working out what it costs you to say yes or no to opportunities

19 Sep 2023Self-Sabotage with Africa Brooke01:02:45

Send us a text

There's nothing I love more than joining with people who work in similar ways to me, opening up to each other and sharing stories about our own lives. One of those people is Africa Brooke, who I'm so excited to bring on the podcast today! Africa is a consultant, credentialed coach, strategist, and international speaker with a unique focus: tackling self-sabotage and self-censorship. From starting life in Zimbabwe and moving to the UK at nine years old, watching her parents' relationship decline and feeling like a burden for asking for help from aunts and uncles, Africa really has lived experience of those topics she works with her clients on. Our discussion today is incredibly powerful, covering many different topics that I've touched on the podcast before, so if you're ready for some real-life examples of hyper-independence, self-sabotage and self-censorship, hit the play button!

Africa and I will be talking about:

  • Self-censorship through the lens of hyper-independence
  • The younger self and where Africa's hyper-independence stems from
  • The abandonment wound and ending relationships
  • Following through on things you've started
  • Binge drinking and getting sober
  • Discovering your relationship with responsibility and honesty

26 Sep 2023Self-Development and Change with Kaz Crossley00:36:23

Send us a text

We all know that people in the spotlight can struggle with their mental health after they've become well-known - from trolls and online bullying, to having every decision and outfit scrutinised by the media, it can be incredibly difficult to feel like you can live your life as you choose. Today's podcast guest, Kaz Crossley, experienced just this after she appeared on the 2018 series of Love Island. I got to know Kaz after she came to me when she was struggling with situations in her life that were showing up on repeat. Now, she runs a thriving women's only combat sports community called Combat Collective which focuses on Muay Thai, a headbands business called KazBands and retreats in Thailand to bring women together to find a community. Kaz is an amazing example of the power of working consistently at your self-development, and in her own words "There's no finish line where I'm done, I'm self-developed!" so if you're ready to feel inspired and motivated by her, press play now!

Today I'm chatting with Kaz about:

  • The impact of appearing on reality TV on mental health
  • Finding confidence and mental wellness through a new hobby or sport
  • Discovering a community through retreats
  • How self-development changes your choices
  • Low self-worth and low self-esteem
  • Learning to become dependent on others in healthy ways
  • Finding who you really are and becoming yourself
  • Taking responsibility for things you want to change in your life

17 Oct 2023Interdependence is the Healing You’re Avoiding00:21:58

Send us a text

Recently, I got back from the retreat I was on with 11 other women and wow, what a wonderful experience it was! We were looking at the art of receiving, the ability to connect, to be interdependent, to allow ourselves to be supported and to allow ourselves to be seen in a way that we don't always manage to do in day-to-day life. Today's podcast episode is going to be recapping on the experience that we had, what we gained from it and how being around others and going through things together can really add so much to your life. Everybody that comes on retreat comes on their own, but the connections that are made when we all drop our masks and open ourselves up is truly magical.

Today I'm covering:

  • The impact that the retreat had on the women that came
  • How trusting yourself leads to growth
  • Why I'm an advocate for joy
  • The definition of healing
  • Owning your communication

If you've enjoyed this episode, please leave me a review and subscribe! And if you want to learn more from me, come and say hello on Instagram @thecompletioncoach or via email at wendy@thecompletioncoach.co.uk or find out more about working with me on my website, thecompletioncoach.co.uk.

24 Oct 2023Slow Living with Giselle La Pompe-Moore01:04:17

Send us a text

So many of us are living in today's world rushing from one appointment to the next, obsessed with ticking off our to-do lists and never really taking a moment to sit down, breathe and just be. This "being" is what Slow Living advocates are encouraging us to embody - do less, be present and feel more. The wonders that this transition can do for your body, mind and soul are totally life-changing.

My guest today on the podcast is Giselle La Pompe-Moore, a Slow Living advocate, author, speaker and artist. In her work, Giselle explores how we can find quiet joy in everyday experiences, practise quiet rebellion by resisting productivity culture and centre quiet healing without the burden of perfection, so we can work towards a quiet revolution where we slow down for long enough to remember what it means to be human and create meaningful social change.

Today's episode is really one that will allow you to release the pressure you hold on yourself to always be doing and to learn to find small joys in the world through living slowly and quietly.

Giselle and I will be chatting about:

  • The struggle of working in a fast-paced industry
  • Slow living and dealing with feelings of guilt
  • Acknowledging that you are enough as you are
  • The law of attraction, manifestation and coming from poverty
  • Meditation and what it looks like in different forms
  • Finding joy and discovering what really matters in life
  • Faith, spirituality and believing in yourself
  • Respecting what your soul desires

You can connect with Giselle on Instagram @gisellelpm and learn more about her on her website. Her book, Take It In, guides us to see that visualisation, wishful thinking and gratitude lists alone can't outwit the very real stuff we're all carrying and is available through all major retailers.

31 Oct 2023The Power of Practise, Failure and Data with Sophie Liard, The Folding Lady00:36:39

Send us a text

If there's anything that life gives everyone - it's lessons! Mistakes and failures are definitely par for the course but it is, of course, what you take from them that determines how you grow and what you move forward with. Today's podcast guest fell into business unexpectedly and our discussion in this episode covers a range of topics, from how she got started, what she's learnt along the way and her favourite life lesson from her dad!

My guest today is Sophie Liard, who started The Folding Lady in 2019 at the start of the global pandemic. Her folding skills were learnt in the department store she worked in from the age of 16. She was taught to fold by many prestigious brands such as DKNY, Ralph Lauren and 7forallmankind.

She transferred her folding and merchandising skills from store to home and now shares her magic with others through her social media platform and first book: The Folding Lady.

Sophie is a self-proclaimed "lover of failure" and I think that is what brings the magic in this episode - the importance of failing, picking yourself up and always continuing to practise, practise, practise!

Sophie and I are diving into:

  • The "after value" of organising your space
  • Practice and the power of repetition
  • Adding things into your daily routine and making them stick
  • Improving communication with others in your life
  • Retaining privacy as your business grows
  • Finding something positive to take from a situation you don't want to be in
  • Loving failure and learning from mistakes
  • Reflecting on data and tracking metrics

You can check out Sophie's website here and follow her on Instagram and TikTok. Her book, "The Folding Lady: Tools & tricks to make the most of your space & find after value in your home" is available from all major retailers.

07 Nov 2023Wounded Masculine Energy Might Just Be Leading Your Behaviour00:19:58

Send us a text

On the retreat, when I asked the women to connect with their own masculine energy there was so much resistance to it. They felt disconnected to it, didn't want to feel it, didn't trust it. This was mirrored for them by some of the men that had been part of their lives and also the masculine energy that they previously had that they ended up rejecting. Although they had rejected this part of themselves, it was still leading them, causing internal conflict and prevented the feminine from coming in and having her part in the story. I'm focusing on the masculine in today's episode as not only does the feminine get way more airtime, but the masculine relates strongly to people experiencing hyper-independence, which ultimately is one of the main things I help people work through!

Today I'm chatting about:

  • Why I've been prompted to talk more about the wounded masculine and what it is
  • The relation between wounded masculine energy and hyper-independence
  • Traits relating to masculine energy
  • Offering the positive to others and the negative to yourself

14 Nov 2023Why All Or Nothing Is Holding You Back00:26:03

Send us a text

Two questions for you: Would you describe yourself as an all-or-nothing person? And are you proud of it?

If your answers are yes and yes, today's episode is for you. I'm going to be going deep into why your all-or-nothing mentality is actually holding you back and is something you need to learn how to move past. This is something I've worked on myself, and why I am now the bare minimum tortoise! It might sound counterproductive to say that I will do the bare minimum and the easy option and that it has actually skyrocketed my growth, but I promise if you jump into this episode, all will make sense!

Today I'm talking all about:

  • How all-or-nothing mentality is a barrier to growth
  • Why the bare minimum is where the big difference happens
  • My opinion on 12-week transformations and challenges
  • How I make the most of bathroom time (it's not weird, I promise!)
  • Becoming the person who does the things you do, not just doing things because they're on the list

28 Nov 2023Collective Wellbeing with Chloe Pierre00:51:48

Send us a text

Today's world can be a really difficult place to grow up in, thrive in and build a community in and that's why today's guest has created her own wellness platform aimed at making wellness and collective wellbeing as accessible as possible, to everyone in all industries. She believes that wellness is a journey that we can go on collectively and by doing it together we can break down more barriers than we could alone.

Joining me on the podcast today is Chloe Pierre, a content creator, author and the Black female founder of thy.self, which she was inspired to launch in October 2018 after struggling to find a space that resonated to her within wellness. Chloe's mission is to make wellness more approachable and accessible to the people that its origins are derived from. Chloe started her career working in fashion PR and over the last decade, has expanded her experience into marketing, where she now serves as a Digital Marketing Consultant for some of the biggest global brands including Nike Jordan, BBC and H&M.

It's so easy for us to feel as though we aren't part of anything bigger and feel swallowed up by things going on in the world, but we are part of the world's ecosystem and for it to begin to heal, we need to heal ourselves too. Join us today for this important conversation!

Today Chloe and I are discussing:

  • Collective wellbeing and global healing
  • Finding your superpowers by being yourself
  • Leaving home young and growing up without a support system
  • Wisdom you'd impart to your younger self
  • Improving inclusivity and diversity in organisations and communities
  • The idea of being an expert
  • Your mindset and beliefs changing over time

You can follow Chloe @chloepierreldn on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and TikTok. You can reach her via email for any collaborations at chloepierrepr@gmail.com. Her book, Take Care: The Black Women's Guide to Wellness is available to buy from all major retailers. You can learn more about Chloe's wellness platform, thy.self, here.

05 Dec 2023The Completion Method00:28:18

Send us a text

It's the final episode of 2023! What a whirlwind this year has been - and how quickly it's gone! The podcast launched back in March, and we're rounding up 36 episodes in this first week of December, as I think we all just need a bit of space over this crazy season (my thoughts on that - another episode in itself!). Thank you from the bottom of my heart for making this podcast part of your development routine and my first year in podcasting so successful!

Today I'm chatting about:

  • The traits and behaviours of the types of people that I work with
  • How I work with my clients to change their thinking and beliefs
  • Fears and resistance my clients have to changing
  • Helping my clients to separate themselves from their job titles

Join me for my workshop "Pause for Momentum" on 14th December 2023 at 7.30pm. This will be an end of year round-up that isn’t just an acknowledgement of what has happened, but the seeing of the unacknowledged. You will understand how to stop using shitty data to assess yourself, and understand why you are moving in directions that don’t support you.

16 Jan 20242024: The Year of Discipline00:29:12

Send us a text

Welcome to series 2 of And What Else! If you're a new listener, I'm so happy that you're joining us, and if you're a returning listener, thank you so much for coming back! In today's episode, we're hitting the ground running with a topic that's certainly a lot of peoples' word of the year for 2024 (and mine!) - discipline. In my mind, discipline isn't about being tough or stern with yourself, it's finding the flexible way forward rather than the excuse why not. It's simply a tool that will help you to cultivate a habit that aligns you with achieving your goals, not some horrible way to bully yourself. So, if you feel like you've been looking at discipline in the wrong way, tune in to today's episode to learn more about how to reframe this word and begin to actually start holding yourself accountable.

In this episode, we're discussing:

  • The definitions of consistency and discipline
  • What manifesting is and isn't
  • How being a people pleaser is affecting your personal growth
  • Giving yourself permission to be disciplined to look after yourself and how it affects you if you don't
  • My thoughts on the quote "I'm not available for anything that disrupts my peace"
  • Becoming aware of the energy you're around
  • Reframing the "I'm a manifesting generator" excuse

If you're interested in diving deeper into discipline, completion, seeing it through and nervous system regulation, join me in The Bridge 10 week course which starts in March!

23 Jan 2024Implementing Discipline00:22:20

Send us a text

If you listened to last week's episode, you'll know that my word of the year in 2024 is discipline. In today's episode, I'm going a little deeper into discipline and how I'm using it this year to support positive change in my life. I'll be sharing examples of how I'm using discipline - and that's definitely not as a rod to beat myself with, nor as a way to do more or even as a way to try to overachieve! Tune into today's episode if discipline is your word of the year, or you just feel like you could do with a little extra discipline boost this year!

I'm going to be talking about:

  • How disciplined I felt I was in 2023
  • The way I wanted to approach January 2024
  • The things I've implemented to improve my discipline this year
  • What the data told me about why I struggled last year
  • The link between productivity and rest
  • All or nothing vs the bare minimum
  • Habit stacking on the toilet!

If you'd like a one-to-one session with me as a one-off, you can book these for January, February or March here.

30 Jan 2024Why Does Rest Need Discipline?00:29:38

Send us a text

Yes, it's another discipline episode, but this time through a different lens! If you're still thinking to yourself that being disciplined means using force with yourself to get things done, you're really going to want to have a listen to today's episode. There are so many areas of our life that need us to be disciplined, and I think one of the most important is rest. Have you ever noticed that when you take a break, you get ill? So you start to think that you're healthier when you're busier, and slowing down is bad for you. Well, that's all tied into your nervous system and it's time to realise that you aren't actually thriving when you're in that state. So have a listen to today's episode, and start to think about whether you're truly giving your body the rest it needs.

Today I'm talking about:

  • Why hyper-independent people avoid rest
  • How I used to rest, compared with now
  • The different areas of your life that you need to be disciplined in that aren't work
  • The forgotten art of waiting and slowing down
  • Why self-diagnosis and inaccurate labels are stopping you living
  • Coming to that thing you're avoiding

You can book a one-to-one session here, and find out more details about working with me in other ways here.

06 Feb 2024Perfection is an Illusion00:18:23

Send us a text

All or nothing thinking - the perfect illusion to make you think that you're passionate, committed, all go go go. It's just a trick! All or nothing just means we will come back to nothing, once we aren't able to give our all any more. If I called you a "continuous starter" instead, you wouldn't be as happy about that descriptor, I'm sure. Fundamentally, you'll find yourself going around in circles and feeling as though you're never able to make progress anywhere, because you'll always have great reasoning as to why you had to stop that thing you wanted to do. Combined with being a people pleaser, you'll find you're always able to complete things for others, but not for yourself, leaving your imposter syndrome raging. Sounding all too familiar? Dive into today's episode!

Today I'm chatting about:

  • How all or nothing thinking is just tricking your mind
  • Why this thinking will affect the things you want to do for yourself
  • People pleasing vs your personal goals
  • Your internal quitter & how they feed your imposter syndrome
  • Why you "can't even finish a book"
  • Journal prompts to help you complete something that's been on your list a while

13 Feb 2024Self Perception Shift00:18:40

Send us a text

Self perception is our inner limitation, outer conclusion jumping view of the world and ourselves.  What we see isn't always the full view and our ideas about ourselves and other people are being formed in a way that can create a whole host of behaviours.  Sometimes these behaviours work in our favour, sometimes they determine whether we'll even try! If you think back to a time where a friend was really struggling with a problem, and you were secretly thinking "why can't they just get on with solution X?", that was an example of how their self perception was influencing them to see the solution as more of a problem than you would have. They've probably thought the same about a problem you had at some point! Self-perception plays such a huge part in our lives and if we are to move forward with our self-development journey, we need to work on our self-awareness and start to understand our blockers and why we do the things that we do.

Today I'm diving into:

  • The different types of perception
  • Why we do self-development
  • The difference between the presenting problem and the real problem
  • Why it's important to develop your self-awareness
  • How I think spirituality helps your self-discovery

20 Feb 2024The Shadow Side of Your Values00:18:54

Send us a text

I'm so happy that values are something nowadays that we are a lot more open about discussing and sharing with others. Even companies and brands have their own values now! But so often we apply our values to others, but not ourselves, and so today's episode is going to be focusing on values but from the shadow side. For example, is kindness one of your values? But from the shadow side, you aren't compassionate towards yourself and you're great at being a people pleaser to your own detriment. Working on aligning ourselves with our values truly can teach us so much about ourselves and help us to work on our self-development.

Today we're talking about:

  • Why I think it's so important to understand our values
  • Examples of how to look at your values from the shadow side
  • How to apply your values to yourself and not just others
  • Re-evaluating when your values clash with each other

27 Feb 2024Supporting Your State Is Up To You00:26:13

Send us a text

I am an advocate for the bare minimum - and that doesn't mean doing the least amount possible, or just trying something once - if you tell me you've completed something, I'll ask you "how many times?"! To me, the bare minimum is the act of taking small, consistent action towards our goals. We can often find that situations feel hard or gritty and we think that means that things aren't "right", when really, we need someone to come and poke us in the face to point out that things are meant to be hard and sometimes life has challenges that are meant to expand us. Well, I'm here with an episode that is exactly the poke in the face that you didn't even know you needed!

Today I'm talking about:

  • What I really mean by the bare minimum
  • Embracing challenges and obstacles
  • The importance of being in the best possible "state" and considering what you need
  • Focusing on what you can control

05 Mar 2024Becoming Bolder in Business with Becky Symes00:58:22

Send us a text

Brand and website designer and vision strategist, Becky Symes has come to join me on the podcast today and we have such a good episode in store for you! I invited Becky on after connecting with her on Instagram and wanted to bring over some of the amazing conversations we've had there to allow for a deeper discussion on the podcast. We've chatted about lots of things surrounding purpose, being a female in business and the insecurities many women face about taking up space and struggling with their visibility wounds when it comes to personal branding. It's so vital that we unlink our self-worth from our businesses and maintain those boundaries in order to allow ourselves to continue on our personal development journey.

Today Becky and I are chatting about:

  • Undoing visibility wounds
  • The role gender plays in business
  • Personal branding, authenticity and virality
  • Being bolder with our beliefs and values
  • Changing internal thoughts to change the exterior

Send us a text

Today's episode is one of my favourites I've ever recorded - diving deep into the topics of self-perception, putting yourself through suffering, and learning what fulfils you with my guest, Lewis Robling. Lewis is an ex-professional rugby player of 10 years, who since discovering ultra running in lockdown, has left the rugby world behind and become an ultra running coach and founded his own events company called "Why We Run". Lewis truly opens up in this episode, sharing things from the impact that feeling out of alignment with rugby had on him, to rugby drinking culture and discovering the importance of having a community around you.

Lewis and I will be chatting about:

  • Using running as a pain management tool
  • Which he found harder - therapy or ultramarathons
  • Self-support and filling your cup
  • Making positive changes in your life
  • The impact of alcohol on your view of yourself
  • Giving back to others through charity and community

I love exploring different topics within the realm of self-development on this podcast and today's episode is no different. We'll be diving into the wonderful world of breathwork, which if you haven't tried before, can over time allow you to reduce stress and improve sleep and focus, as well as release emotions and understand yourself as breath can be a mirror of lots of our behaviours, physiology and psychology.

Joining me today is Rob Rea, a breathwork coach who worked in banking for 5 years before realising it wasn't his path. His journey with breathwork started over a decade ago in Bali where he discovered within stillness, a sanctuary for creativity, introspection and healing. 02 Apr 2024Be So Good They Can't Ignore You with Fran Millar00:41:32

Send us a text

When we've been doing something so well in the past, moving into a new career or phase of life can be scary. It takes a lot of bravery to be able to take that leap, and today's guest is proof that when we live life aligned to our values, we can truly thrive. Joining me for this conversation is Fran Millar, who is currently CEO of men's fashion brand Belstaff and previously was one of the founding members and senior management of Team Sky, potentially one of the most successful professional cycling teams ever to exist. While she lives her life mostly offline, in today's episode we cover plenty of topics surrounding her move from sport to business, how successful women are judged and what she believes her strengths are as a leader.

Today Fran and I are chatting about:

  • Challenges Fran has faced in a male-dominated industry
  • Having the confidence to make changes in your life
  • The impact of choosing not to have children
  • How women are viewed in business and what their superpowers are
  • Advice we'd give to our younger selves

09 Apr 2024Passive Decisions Are Holding You Back00:32:56

Send us a text

A solo episode today - and I'm back with my usual attitude, of course! A question I want you to ask yourself is "is the self-development work I'm doing actually leading me to develop, change and grow?". If the answer is no - we need to work out why, and that's where today's episode will come in handy. If you're taking in all the information, but being passive about implementing it, then you really need to sit down and think about what's truly going on. And if you're blaming the planets, astrology or signs as a reason to wait or why it's not your fault (coming from someone who works with astrology and loves this stuff) - this episode might be a bit of a wake-up call!

Today I'm diving into:

  • Why you can't be passive when it comes to self-development
  • Taking self-responsibility for changes you need to make
  • Getting out of umbrella terminology and looking at facts
  • The reason you set such high standards for yourself
  • Detangling your self-worth from your business or employment
  • What your "personal brand" truly means
  • Working out what you need to stop doing instead of what you need to start doing

16 Apr 2024Confidently Sober with Steph Elswood00:44:09

Send us a text

Sometimes the best businesses are those that start totally by accident, and my guest today has fallen into a number of her businesses through her own personal journey from recovering from an eating disorder and beginning to share content about that online. Joining me today is Steph Elswood, a health and fitness advocate, professional dancer, director of body confidence workshops 'Stay Sassy', Author of 'Plant to Plate' and Founder of 'Sasstainable', 'Dry Disco' and 'Carouse'. I found her originally as 'Healthy Chef Steph' and instantly connected with her approach to wellness and sobriety. In today's episode, we're going deep into Steph's journey from anxiety following drinking in the pub after her boyfriend's rugby matches, to becoming sober and eventually starting her own non-alcoholic drinks company after noticing a gap in the market.

Steph and I will be chatting about:

  • How Steph got started making content to help her recover from her eating disorder
  • The companies Steph has started and her newest one, a non-alcoholic drinks range
  • Challenges and obstacles that come with running businesses
  • Why Steph stopped drinking when she was 22
  • How giving up drinking actually gives you the things you were looking for in drinking originally
  • People pleasing and sharing your life online
  • Authenticity and vulnerability

If you'd like to stay in Steph's circle, you can follow her on Instagram @stephelswood and YouTube @StephElswood and follow her non-alcoholic drinks company on Instagram @drinkcarouse.

23 Apr 2024Finding Your Voice with Kay Munday00:45:39

Send us a text

So many of us are terrified of public speaking, but have you ever considered what causes that? It's not usually just a direct fear of speaking! That's why today's episode with Kay Munday, speaking coach, is so valuable - it breaks down to so much more than just opening your mouth on a stage. She is an international speaker and coach on a mission to eradicate labels through the power of storytelling. Kay firmly believes effective story-telling is the most important tool in your toolbox and she draws on the learning within her own journey from dyslexia, an introvert who suffers with anxiety, and a professional who hated all forms of speaking, to a now internationally recognised presence and Google’s go-to speaking coach.

Kay and I are talking about:

  • How Kay helps people become better speakers
  • Learning how to communicate better with yourself
  • Why self trust is so important in changing your life
  • Fear of speaking and why that's not usually your problem
  • Failure vs learnings
  • Doing the right thing for you and putting yourself first
  • Processing where you're at before moving forwards
  • Learning to ask for help
  • Being open about your stories

You can connect with Kay over on Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn, or on her website at kaymunday.com.

30 Apr 2024Bold Courage00:36:05

Send us a text

I've been having a lot of conversations recently with different types of people who are in different circumstances about the topic of understanding who you are, what you like and don't like, what you stand for, who you want to be and how you want to live it. Then, taking all of this knowledge, and assessing how your life currently is and seeing what is in agreement or conflict with how you want to be living. In reality, most people never consider these things and if that's you, it's totally holding you back from living the life that you deserve!

In today's solo episode, I'm diving into:

  • Recognising who you are and what you like and don't like
  • Fragility and being afraid of self-development
  • Getting into your body and out of your mind
  • Being heart-led vs business-led
  • Why you need to stop talking into the echo-chambers of agreement
  • The word "resilient" and why I think we should stop using it
  • Vulnerability and going deep with others

06 May 2024Feeling Understood using Astrology with Francesca Oddie00:31:13

Send us a text

Chatting ALL the things with Astrologer Francesca Oddie - myself and Fran met many years ago when I used to run a retreat company and she came along just as she was stepping into being an Astrologer.

From understanding signs, the many layers of astrology, numerology and not it seems - the cards - together with how she ended up looking through the lens of astrology to understand people in relation to each other and being on a TV show advising on this!

Her passion to help people understand their needs, inner conflicts, passions and growth lessons shines through.  Reminding people of their gifts and bringing all of her joy into a reading to help you be more curious for life.

We also discuss being a modern astrologer and changing the perception of peoples attitude towards astrology.

Although chatting astrology is one thing (and often confusing to many), Fran towards the end of the episode runs through some of the current transits on my chart and discusses me astrologically - we thought it might help you to hear how some of these things translate as a snippet to reflect on what we have been discussing.

14 May 2024Knowing Yourself with Bec Morris00:47:27

Send us a text

Everyone knows how important I think it is to know who you are, what you like and dislike without just copying someone else to "fit in". My guest today knows this too - she's Bec Morris, a Brand Consultant who holds 15 years of invaluable experience in the industry. Throughout her career, she has had the privilege of working with some of the largest and most prestigious brands in the world, gaining an unparalleled insight into what it takes to create a truly successful brand. We had a really interesting discussion all about the importance of getting uncomfortable, creating your own rituals (no, we don't mean sacrificing someone) and why Bec doesn't like the term "personal brand".

Bec and I are talking about:

  • What Bec has battled with to get to where she is now
  • Checking in with yourself about how you want your life to be
  • The problems with the term "personal brand"
  • Why we don't avoid the hard stuff any more
  • The fact that you are not your business and your business is not you
  • Regulating your nervous system
  • Blending in or standing out?

28 May 2024New Methods for Women with Sharmadean Reid00:57:26

Send us a text

Join myself and Sharmadean Reid, the powerhouse behind the Stack World and author of "New Methods for Women." Our conversation is exploring her book, which is set to hit the shelves on June 27, 2024.  It is a toolkit for women to craft their futures, drawing on insights from her own experiences and transformation together with observations from the world, her large community and studying the work of others.

Sharmadean offers a compelling perspective on the echoes of intergenerational experiences, the delicate balance between vulnerability and self-sufficiency, particularly for millennial women, and the profound impact of our attachment styles on the journey towards healing. And when it comes to the art of communication, her wisdom sheds light on cultural narratives and discerning fact from opinion, providing a different way to really consider how we all speak and use our words.

Finally, let's not forget the influence of myths on gender equity and societal norms. Sharmadean invites us to reimagine these stories. To continue the conversation and become part of this much bigger conversation, you can follow Sharmadean on Instagram HERE

Send us a text

Have you ever found yourself sapped of energy, struggling to maintain positivity, or just feeling off-kilter? I'm inviting you to look at the vital role our ‘state’ plays in our day-to-day existence.  I discuss how the ebbs and flows of our energy and emotions shape our narratives and beliefs. We'll tackle the art of self-affirmation, sharing personal anecdotes on how you can leverage this simple routine to uplift your state of mind and take charge of your self-awareness.

We all have our unique rhythms that dictate when we're most effective, and it's time we honor that individuality. This episode isn't just about questioning the conventional workday; it's about redefining what successful work habits look like for you. By understanding the power of positive discipline and recognizing our own needs, we can prevent burnout and keep our creative fires burning bright.  Forming strategies for personal growth and thinking about how to dismantle the self-imposed barriers that may be hindering your true potential.

Lastly, we'll explore the broader implications of being attuned to our personal states and how they impact our quest for an optimal life. From the basics of self-care to the influence of movement and meaningful connections, I'll share insights on making wise decisions and avoiding the traps of a low state.

03 Jun 2024Why rigid thinking creates failure00:11:44

Send us a text

Have you ever felt trapped in a fixed mindset or struggled to incorporate change? In this episode, I share how breaking free from rigid, all-or-nothing thinking opens doors to a more flexible approach to personal growth. By embracing the bare minimum approach, you are able to create lasting changes, that rules and rigidity just can't achieve.

Join me as I reflect on the impact of inflexible mindsets on development and how consistent practice, even at the most basic level, can cultivate belief, courage, and adaptability.  Ultimately GROWTH.  This episode focuses not just on the meditation challenge, but on committing to something with the intention of it being possible, rather than signing up already expecting failure. Challenge your all-or-nothing attitude and find more and more ways to make it possible, enabling change to be continuous rather than ALL IN then ALL OUT.

02 Jul 2024Archetypal Astrology & Creativity with Sade Jackson00:41:57

Send us a text

As children, a lot of us liked to read our horoscopes in the newspaper, but for my guest today, that led to a career in astrology and writing. My guest today is Sade Jackson - astrologer, writer and creativity mentor for creative mavericks, visionaries and muses of soul. When Sade had a reading done by an astrologer at 19, she was told she would one day open her own spiritual business - which, as a sociology student, she couldn't believe would ever be true. After these prolific revelations, she began to study the arts of astrology, which opened up a rabbit hole of new worldly discoveries. Now, over 10 years later, Sade has since become a creative consultant for astrology based apps, has her own astrology column in the Evening Standard and has trained in the energy healing arts of Reiki. Our conversation takes a lot of twists and turns, and you're sure to come out of it pondering so much more than you thought!

Sade and I are talking about:

  • How Sade got into astrology and writing
  • Books that are about more than just self-development or astrology
  • Maiden, mother and crone energies
  • The biggest assumptions people make about Sade and her work
  • The psychoid, religion and rabbit holes
  • Conforming as a society and the people who rebel
  • Finding your creativity inside you
  • Connecting with your chart

If you've seen the iconic purple book with the emoji on it, or even read it for yourself - then I've got a treat for you today! Joining me on the podcast is Yomi Adegoke, multi award-winning journalist and author of numerous books including her debut novel "The List". As a journalist for The Guardian and British Vogue, she covers topics like race, feminism, popular culture and how they intersect, as well as class and politics and so our episode today builds brilliantly on all of these ideas. Living in a world where something you wrote decades ago online can come back to bite you, we're diving into whether this is a good thing, why Yomi doesn't share much about her personal life on social media and how transitioning from writing non-fiction to fiction brought up insecurities she hadn't expected.

Yomi and I are talking about:

  • Yomi's inspiration for her book, "The List"
  • Cancel culture and declaring views we hold
  • Life online as an author in the public eye and the boundaries we hold

17 Sep 2024Uncovering the Emotional Roots of Type A Personalities00:17:30

Send us a text

Can the relentless drive for success actually stem from childhood loneliness? In this eye-opening episode, I dig in the to the lesser-talked about emotional roots of Type A personalities. We'll trace the origins of these traits back to the 1950s when cardiologists first identified them, and discuss how their outward continuous drive is often an internal struggle for validation and emotional support. Through my extensive work, I've seen how these individuals' high ambition, perfectionism, and fear of failure are coping mechanisms for feeling unseen during their formative years. This episode sheds light on the true motivations behind their productivity and sense of urgency—offering a fresh perspective on what really drives Type A behaviour.

What if the very armor you wear to guard your emotions is what’s holding you back from true connection? Join me, as I challenge the misconceptions around vulnerability and hyper-independence. Many caregivers and fixers, like myself, often find it difficult to open up to receiving love and help, creating barriers to deep connections and self-expression. In this enlightening episode, we redefine vulnerability as a strength rather than a weakness, enabling genuine communication and curiosity. We unpack the internal chaos that stems from maintaining a facade of self-sufficiency and explore how these behaviors can lead to unspoken fears of rejection and not belonging.

By reconnecting with our youngest selves, we can address the roots of hyper-independence and bring to light what this present version of us needs to express. Throughout the episode, I share personal insights and stories that highlight the importance of letting go of the emotional masks we often wear. We look at how embracing our emotional blocks and imperfections can lead to deeper relationships and a stronger connection with others. Listen in to explore how acknowledging these shared insecurities can foster growth and intimacy, transforming the way we relate to ourselves and those around us.

19 Nov 2024Beyond Logic Embracing the Emotional Self00:16:06

Ever felt like you're hitting a brick wall when trying to use logic to solve emotional problems? You're not alone.  Many of us have been conditioned to lean on logic, yet emotions don’t abide by the same rules. We explore how childhood stories of self-worth create emotional blocks that logic alone can't dismantle. By learning to embrace and process emotions, we can transform these blocks into breakthroughs, moving toward true self-acceptance and shedding the illusion of being broken.

Facing resistance and fear when striving for important goals is a common struggle. But instead of pushing harder, Wendy suggests a different approach: pause and observe the emotions that surface. Shifting focus from productivity to curiosity about our desires allows for personal growth. This episode invites you to sit with your feelings without judgment and see what unfolds. As always, Wendy encourages listeners to engage with these insights, sharing them with others who might benefit from a deeper understanding of themselves. What if your worth isn't just tied to how much you can do for others? Join me as we unravel the belief that we must keep everything together or risk it all falling apart. This episode explores how childhood experiences with unreliable or emotionally unavailable parents might have shaped this narrative, pushing many into taking on too much responsibility too soon. Learn how this overwhelming sense of duty can lead to exhaustion and loneliness, and discover how we can begin to open up, delegate, and rebuild trust in others. By questioning the origins of these beliefs, we aim to let go of over-responsibility, realising that our value extends beyond our actions alone.

In a world that equates vulnerability with weakness, we emphasise the power of embracing emotional openness. This episode challenges the misconception that vulnerability is merely performative, while highlighting the adverse effects of hyper-independence, such as emotional guarding and isolation. We discuss the journey of moving away from over-functioning, inviting more joy and connection into our lives. Finally, we touch on the transformative process of rewiring deep-seated beliefs with the aid of therapists or coaches to escape the productivity trap. As we set the stage for our next conversation, consider sharing this insight with someone who might benefit from breaking free from survival mode.

17 Dec 2024Purpose, Meaning, Love, and Experiencing Life00:19:17

Is it possible that we've been misleading ourselves about life's single, straightforward purpose? Join me as I challenge this notion and open a conversation about embracing life's unpredictability and complexity. Reflecting on the film "Wicked," we weave through themes of legacy, love, and personal meaning, asking what truly defines our contributions to the human narrative. Together, we ponder why struggles are often more comfortable to share than triumphs and how that shapes our connections with others.

Curiosity stands as a guiding force in this exploration, prompting us to question traditional perceptions of love and suffering. As we navigate this complex landscape, I suggest that love, far from a source of pain, has the power to dissolve suffering and bring profound joy. Each chapter of this episode encourages embracing curiosity as a core value, one that fuels creativity and shapes our understanding of purpose. As we wrap up the year, I express heartfelt gratitude for your engagement and hint at more thought-provoking journeys ahead. Let's continue learning, unlearning, and finding joy in the unique experiences that define our lives.
