Alternate Reality - Episode #382 Who’s been missing an episode of Alternate Reality? I know I have!!! Well if you’re like me then you’re in luck because before we disappeared into a black hole on the other side of the galaxy we managed to record an Avengers 2 movie review that, because of the extreme gravitational forces put upon us, was never released. Now, having narrowly escaped said singularity we suddenly have the time to edit and post this episode. This was recorded months ago for you guys but because time is relative in a black hole it’s only been a few days for us. But seeing as its October now we rebranded the episode a “Halloween episode” and dubbed it “certified spooky”, just for old time’s sake. John Wimmer was with us for this episode, who sadly never made it out of the black hole, so sit back and enjoy our review of Avengers: Age of Ultron. Alternate Reality - Episode #387 A long time ago (last week) in a galaxy far far away (Kentucky)….. Jon and Charlie sat down to discuss the newest outing from the, now Disney owned, Star Wars franchise; “Solo: A Star Wars Story”. Both Jon and Charlie had things they liked and things they didn’t like about the movie. High-points and low-points. Some of those things they agreed on, others they did not. And so they hash it all out in this quick (hour long) movie review. Many things will be discussed such as; new actors in old roles, the look and feel of the film, charters they enjoyed and didn’t, easter eggs that relate to other existing and upcoming Star Wars films, back-splaining everything that we ever knew about these characters and how and why they got that way, weather those explanations make sense,….. so forth and so. Alternate Reality - Episode #388 Charlie this week is going deep on Descender from Image Comics telling why his feelings are so strong coming from the bottom of his very soul. He’s also crazy about the Flash War. He relates an amazing story found in the pages of Jughead: The Hunger about werewolves in the Archie universe. And finally, Charlie reads a republished Star Wars story from Dark Horse in what is clearly a cash grab to coincide with the new Solo movie. However, that doesn’t deter Charlie who had a lot of fun with the comedic revisionist history of Tag and Bink Were Here. Meanwhile Jon is telling us about mostly the same books again. He does get to mix it up just a little with Man of Steel #1, which is a new series about the same character that Jon always talks about. Jon fills us in on whether the wait for Bendis was worth it and whether or not he delivered on this seminal fist issue. Also, Jon follows up on Justice League: No Justice #3, and breaks a little more new ground with Doomsday Clock #5. Alternate Reality - Episode #394 Jon’s weekend got jacked. A bunch of stuff came up that kept him from doing his required reading. He knew based on tweets that Charlie was going to be talking about Flash #50 and the end of Flash War. So Jon, who was behind on Flash made a point to read the previous 4 Flash issues as well as #50 to have an intelligent conversation with Charlie about the book. He even got to read a couple other books. But that’s it. With close to 20 books in Jon’s pile he read 7, and 5 of them were from one title. *Sigh* So this week Jon breaks out a couple new books for us. Superman #1 from Brian Michael Bendis and Ivan Reis. He also looks at the new Amazing Spider-Man #1 from Nick Spencer and Ryan Ottley. While Charlie on the other hand, working to fill the gap, talks about the afore mentioned Flash #50, X-Men: Grand Design #1, and Archie #32. Alternate Reality - Episode #397 All in all, it’s starting to feel a little like autumn. The days are getting a little shorter, it’s still warm outside but the evenings aren’t as bad. Labor Day will be on us next week, and not long after that the leaves will start to turn colors. We’re starting to look forward to harvest, pumpkins, trick-or-treat, and scary tales. Scary things are the theme this week as we’re talking werewolves. But not just werewolves, the boys also talk about what makes Batman the biggest boogie-man in the dark. The Justice League are busy fighting things that go bump in the night in JLA Dark. Speaking of the dark, it doesn’t get much darker that the cold unfeeling heart of Darth Vader. Despite torrential flooding, the Alternate Reality crew is still here and all without building an Ark. We managed to survive the flood waters this time but with a new hurricane coming in on the eastern seaboard, we’re liable to be up to our necks in it. In the meantime, we’re already up to our necks in comics. We’ve got an assortment for you this week as Jon and Charlie talk about everything from James Bond in WWII, to the Star Wars Universe and all points in-between. And if that wasn’t enough for you, the boys take some extra time to dive outside the comics book flood waters into other seas of geekery. We take a quick look at Spider-Man which just hit the PS4 and Iron Fist season 2 which just hit Netflix. Uh oh, I should have said that. Whenever we say we’re gonna do anything quick, or just touch on a subject for a few mins, the episode turns out to be twice as long. Well, perhaps that’s for the best as the boys must take an extended brake after this so Jon can go to the Cleveland Clinic and be seen by the world’s best doctors. So this double length episode may have to last as much as three weeks before Alternate Reality will be back. Sorry, but that’s just the way things go sometimes. Enjoy!!! Alternate Reality - Episode #399 Last episode was a double length episode. Guess what?.... we got another hum-dinger of a show lined up tonight and it too is a double length episode. Why does Alternate Reality keep putting out double length episodes? Well perhaps it because we only put about half as many episodes as we’re supposed to, so we feel encumbered to give you more content each episode. ORRRR it could be that we have no time management skills. Either way you got double for you trouble again this week. This week things take an “unexpected” turn when Charlie talks about The Unexpected #5. Jon relives his college glory days in his review of Batman/The Maxx #1. And the boys talk about several other great books; too numerous to name. Then the worst happens. Jon and Charlie decide to spend just a few moments on The Venom Movie that just came out in theaters. Well you know that that means here on the Alternate Reality Podcast…………. DOUBLE LENGTH EPISODE!!!!!!!! That’s right the boys go IN DEPTH to tell you everything that happens in the movie and what they thought about it right down to the mid and end credit sequences. By the time they get done you will feel like you saw the movie twice as you’ll relive almost every moment of the film though Jon and Charlie’s eyes. And if you haven’t seen it and decide to listen anyway, well then you won’t need to see it anymore as you will be able to create the action in the movie in your mind from the boy’s vivid “play-by-play” reenactments and descriptions. It really is breath-taking. If, after all that, you are still a fan and want to listen to next episode you’re in for a treat. Next episode is #400. See you there. Alternate Reality - Episode #401 The boys wind down the Halloween season by talking about some scary books this week…… Well, kind of. I mean Jon’s talking about the Halloween specials Dynamite put out for both Red Sonja and Vampirella. Charlie’s keeping things supernatural with Books of Magic. And Jon brings it back around with his low-down on Spider-Geddon - a book featuring vampire-like bad guys called the inheritors. (That was kind of a stretch wasn’t it) Truth be told that’s it for the spooky stuff, but we’ve got some good old superhero action with The Terrifics, and Return of Wolverine, and if I might add a touch of space-opera in Star Wars: Dr. Aphra. All of those books, while not horror books, do have anxious moments of intense action, scary even. So don’t count them out till you’ve heard the reviews. And then there’s the scariest thing of all….. Alternate Reality - Episode #406 Well when we last left you, we promised to only be gone 2 or 3 weeks. Its been more like 5. Wow, we really pooched that one, didn’t we? In all fairness there was no way for Jon to know just how long his recovery would be after surgery. So what seem like a easy time of sitting propped up in a recliner for a couple weeks turned into a vomit spewing catastrophe.
