Show Notes:

On this episode of the Alix Turoff Nutrition podcast, Alix sits down with Lisa Moskovitz, RD, CDN. Lisa is the author of "The Core 3 Healthy Eating Plan," and is also the founder and CEO of The NY Nutrition Group: a team (15 +) of experienced dietitians that specialize in a variety of conditions and modalities. Since opening her private practice in 2013, Lisa has built up credibility in the media and established an immense expertise in diets, weight management, hormonal influence on health, improving relationship with food and understanding the nuances of nutrition. She wrote her book "The Core 3 Healthy Eating Plan," to help people learn how to find their healthiest, happiest weight while improving relationship with food. Most diets destroy your ability to listen and trust your body, making weight loss feel like a never-ending battle. The Core 3 restores your confidence and trust in food while encouraging autonomy with a personalized, structured, dietitian-designed and science-backed plan.

Lisa has a profound understanding of what helps and what hurts when it comes to nutrition therapy. She believes in personalization and preaches that there is no one-size-fits-all diet for feeling your best. As part of her treatment approach, Lisa develops only bespoke nutrition/meal plans that align with your unique history, goals, obstacles, and body's demands.

08 Dec 2020Brittany Wehrle, MS, RD, CSSD, LD | Mindful Eating For Athletes00:35:05

On this episode of the Alix Turoff Nutrition podcast, Alix sits down with Brittany who is a Registered Dietitian and a Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics practicing in the Dallas, TX area.

She has several years of experience in collegiate athletics and has also worked with military, youth, and high-school level athletes. Her work with youth athletes specifically opened her eyes to how early in our lives we are exposed to diet culture and the concept that some foods are "good" while others are "bad." This is when Brittany first became passionate about helping athletes improve their relationships with food, not just their performance!

Brittany created Fueled & Well after taking a good look around the nutrition space and realizing that very few dietitians have tried to bring the principles of mindful eating and sports nutrition together. Athletes and active individuals have unique nutrition needs and, as such, require a different approach than the general population when it comes to nutrition and developing a healthy relationship with food. Brittany loves supporting athletes and active individuals on their journey to leaving the diet mentality, tracking, and food stress behind.

03 May 2022Al Malecha | Girls Love Evidence-Based Wellness00:53:29

Episode 80: Al Malecha | Girls Love Evidence-Based Wellness

Show Notes:

On this episode of the Alix Turoff Nutrition podcast, Alix sits down with Al Malecha.

Al Malecha is the creator of Girls Love Evidence, an evidence-based health and wellness blog. Girls Love Evidence was born when she became fascinated with how influencers, wellness blogs, and even some health professionals promote health trends that have very little scientific evidence to back them up. As many health trends are targeted towards body insecurities or historically under-researched disease, women and people of color are specifically susceptible to the harm these trends can cause to their health and wallets.

With a Bachelors in Biochemistry and Masters in Cancer Biology, Al uses her love of science, peer-review, and spending too much time on social media to fact-check and explain, with the goal of making high-quality scientific information accessible to all.

Outside of writing, Al is a first-year law student with an interest in bioethics and intellectual property, and she spends a lot of time with her dog.

Some of the topics we covered in this episode include:

  • What does it mean to be "evidence-based"?
  • Social media and influencer wellness trends
  • How to find quality scientific information if you don't have a science background
  • And more!

08 Mar 2022Ronit and Yoel Halaf | Bread, but make it low carb00:41:43

Episode 72: Ronit and Yoel Halaf | Bread, but make it low carb

Show Notes:

On this episode of the Alix Turoff Nutrition podcast, Alix sits down with Ronit and Yoel Halaf, the husband-and-wife co-founding duo behind ROYO.

For years, they struggled to find healthy and tasty bread options in their local supermarkets. They would spend hours strolling through grocery store aisles, examining labels on every loaf of bread they could find — only to see added sugar, preservatives, and strange ingredients you can’t pronounce on virtually every package. Ronit, a registered dietitian, and Yoel, a lifelong baker, realized they could combine their passions to create high-fiber, low-carb, plant-based bread that tastes just as good as the real thing. In 2019, they finally decided to make their own.

They experimented with recipes, passed out tons of samples to family and friends, and spent countless hours researching ingredients. And it paid off; they ended up with the now best-selling Original ROYO bread. Fast forward to today: They have a line of delicious low-carb breads, bagels, buns, and continue to create plant-based, high-fiber, and high protein products you’ll love.

ROYO's Mission is to make healthy living more enjoyable with products that are great-tasting, guilt-free, and packed with fiber, plant-based protein, and healthy omega-3 fats.

ROYO Bread Co. is a family-owned and operated company with a line of low-carb, superfood-rich baked goods that are not only good for you but that you’ll actually enjoy eating.

The best part about ROYO products? They’re crafted from superfood ingredients like flaxseed and psyllium husk and are sure to satisfy your every craving.

28 Dec 2021Bess Orwasher Rostowsky and Jamie Goldstein | Fiber is your Besstie!00:31:32

On this episode of the Alix Turoff Nutrition podcast, Alix sits down with Let’s Be Bessties founders, Bess Orwasher Rostowsky and Jamie Goldstein. Bessties

Bess and Jamie met by chance at college orientation in 2008 when they were paired as random roommates. They quickly became BESSTIES and spent most of their time at The George Washington University together, both socially and academically.

As perpetual partners in crime in business classes and startup ideas, it was only natural for them to work together on Bessties. When Bess had the idea to start Bessties, she knew Jamie was the perfect partner to bring her vision to life and spread the Besst Cracker love. Their shared love of health and nutrition combined with their passion for entrepreneurship make them a perfect pair. Prior to starting Bessties, both Jamie and Bess worked for two successful startups for 7+ years - Jamie was at Warby Parker and Bess at Grubhub/Seamless.

The Besstie is a high fiber cracker that offers all the same benefits of other high fiber foods, just using the highest quality, certified organic ingredients (and they’re tastier too)!
