Five young artists decided to take their studios on the road for an expedition - on four Ural Sidecars - from Germany, through Russia and to New York. Their trip included “armies of mosquitos and mountains of bureaucracy”, riding on the Road of Bones and building amphibious motorcycles. They had an incredible 972 breakdowns, which culminated in meeting some strange characters who helped them continue their adventure, but only until the next breakdown.

Four years ago, Chris Corcoran and Darin Gillies showed up for a group ride in northern Vermont - they didn’t know each other, both were newly back in to riding, both had bikes too big for what they discovered was a ride on dirt and logging roads, and neither had the skills for the ride. But, this ride that they weren’t prepared for made for a lot of laughs and forged a friendship that would lead to thousands of miles on all types of backroads in Vermont, learning how to ride off-road while having a lot of fun doing it.

Jolandie Rust - South African Motorcycle Adventurer

Meet Jolandie Rust, affectionately known as Jo, who inadvertently became the first woman to circumnavigate the entire African continent riding solo on a motorcycle. Really, it wasn’t her original plan, but circumstances changed her goals, just a bit. From pedal power to motor power, Jo tells a story about overcoming fears and living her dream. Starting out on her bicycle, she got part way through her trip before she was the victim of an armed robbery. She returned home, but not feeling defeated she was able to purchase a used BMW F650GS Dakar, learned to ride and then Jo began her journey again and  travelled over 45,000 km through 28 countries in just 18 months. But, she hasn’t stopped there. She is now training for her next challenge… well tune in to hear all about it. Seventeen years of continuous travel by motorcycle has come to an end for Lisa and Simon Thomas as Lisa’s health and a pandemic has changed everything for them. A few years ago they bought a home in Wales but continued on with their travels, until they were forced to return home. Now, after two and a half years Lisa and Simon are well settled in their new home with a solid roof and door, no flapping tent fabric or inflatable mattresses. How does that comfort of home change things for them as countries are opening up for travel again? How does getting older and health affect their travel decisions? And what’s next for Lisa and Simon?

After saving for almost three years, in 2010  Heidi and David Winters left on a fifteen month long motorcycle trip, visiting 37 countries. On their KTM 640 Adventure, they rode 2-up, camping and couch surfing along the way. While on the trip, David broke his wrist. Dustin Nere wasn’t interested in travel, he’d barely stepped foot out of the United States. Instead he did what he thought he was supposed to do, buy a house, get married. But, things started to change for Dustin when friends gave him a 2003 DR650 and he started going on short rides with them on weekends. Then came the overnight trips and riding the Backcountry Discovery Routes. After a divorce he had more time to ride, took a longer trip and then found himself hooked. He left his dream job, sold his house and truck and then headed to Alaska and just kept going.

Declan McEvoy arrived at work one day to discover that one of his co-workers wasn’t there, that he had actually died while getting ready for work that very morning. It hit Declan hard - not only was this a close coworker but he was only 50 years old and Declan himself was 45, just five years off. Suddenly it was clear to him that he had no idea how much time was left and he had the urge to do the things he had always dreamed of. Motorcycle tire pressure settings are critical and for adventure motorcycles heading into the dirt it could make the difference between a fun ride or steady frustration, but does the perfect setting exist? Can we look at the chart, match our terrain and riding style to our payload and suspension, and then adjust our pressure to the recommended setting? Choose a theme - like a gold rush trail, quirky cafes or rivers - ride for discovery, and just enjoy exploring by motorcycle at a leisurely pace. Water weighs in at  8.34 pounds per US Gallon or by the litre its .7 kg or 1.6 pounds, and humans need on average of 2.2 - 3 litres of water per day. When we are packing for a motorcycle adventure, water and fuel are often left to the end to be fitted into whatever space remains, but considering the weight and bulk of liquids, not to mention the challenge of leakproof containers, perhaps it should be our first consideration. And now that you have all that bulk and weight in water you still may need extra fuel storage. Fuel weighs less than water but still ranks high on your list of consumables for weight.  So what do you do about all this weight and bulk of the extra water and fuel on your bike without making it feel like your riding an overloaded scooter?

Lavi Scholl and Ollie Gamblin met when picking cherries on a farm in Australia while on working holiday visas. It might have been Ollie’s van, maybe his guitar playing, but something sparked for both of them and they have been partners in travel and life ever since. Jon Evans was at a low point in the adventure of life, having recently gone through a divorce, when a YouTube video caught his eye. Luke Gelmi gave up his job in Australia, and sold most of his possessions, in a spontaneous decision to go on a motorcycle adventure. Leaving behind his F800 GS, a bike suitable for the kind of trip he was setting out on, he bought “a wildly inappropriate Royal Enfield” in England. With no set plans, and unprepared, he travelled throughout the UK, some of Europe and Africa. He’s had, well what some might call crazy experiences on his trip… picked up a hitchhiker, got robbed, lost his front teeth, was arrested, and the list goes on. And for all this he’s had an incredible time, and is a changed person, all for the better.

Space means safety on the road, and in this episode we talk about 5 simple and effective keys that have been used in commercial trucking for decades. Shawn Kitchen, a Driver Trainer from Smith System explains how these keys can be used when riding your motorcycle. And Phil Freeman from Motoquest in Alaska shares tips on riding the Dalton Highway, one of the most remote roads in the world.

Since 1952, the Smith System Driver Improvement Institute has been providing collision avoidance driver training. Shawn Kitchen is a Driver Trainer, having completed a course with Smith System, and he's also a motorcyclist. The 5Keys used in their driving training program is applied to small and large vehicles as well as utility trucks. Shawn joins us on this episode to explain how these driving techniques can also be applied to riding a motorcycle.

If you're thinking of riding the Dalton Highway in Alaska, Phil Freeman from Motoquest has some tips to help you make the trip as safe as possible. Phil started doing trips in 1998 in Alaska, and has since branched out in to other parts of the world, running trips in over 20 countries.

We contacted Phil when we were looking for tips on riding the Dalton Highway. On his website, he has the 10 Do's and Don'ts of the Dalton, and in an excerpt from it Phil says,

“414 miles of frost-heaves, broken chip seal and grated dirt surfaces, the Dalton Highway has its challenges. On a good day, you can ride it wide open. On a bad day, you can go home in a helicopter.

Every year motorcyclists are killed on the Dalton Highway. This road offers the rider the adventure gamut. Almost half of the highway is paved or chip sealed. The other half can be smooth or baseballs. There are relatively no places to stop along the way: no gas, no convenient stores, no McDonalds. There are stretches of up to 245 miles without gas. You are literally riding through pristine wilderness. There are no tire shops or police stations.  A wrecker to the Arctic Circle from Fairbanks is a $1,600 bill.  Dalton Highway, mile marker 300: Welcome to the food chain.”

On October 28, 2015, the National Insurance Crime Bureau released a report on United States motorbike thefts.  In 2014, there was a total of 42,856 thefts reported, compared to 45,367 in 2013, a decrease of six percent. Great news, especially as motorcycle sales increased by four percent in the same period.

The top 5 motorcycle stolen (by manufacturer):

1. Honda

2. Yamaha

3. Suzuki

4. Kawasaki

5. Harley Davidson

Most motorcycle thefts occurred in August (4965) and the fewest were in February (1978) indicating a weather influenced pattern, which remains consistent with previous years.

With the cost of many motorcycle models now being $20,000 US or more, they have become a valuable target for thieves. The stolen bikes are either sold whole, stripped down for parts resale or reconstructed in to another motorcycle. Many parts, including frames, can be easily altered and reused. As such, there is a low recovery rate for stolen motorcycles, approximately 25-30 percent.

Tom Medema recently returned from a trip with 15 volunteers who rode Yamaha XTZ 125’s to Nepal. They delivered the much needed motorcycles to park rangers in Chitwan National Park, where the rangers protect Rhinos and Tigers from poachers. The ride was rough and challenging, they ran into problems with the lack of oxygen, snowy conditions, traffic and even an accident which left a rider with a broken hand. Meet Zoe Cano from England. A determined woman with no long distance riding experience, who realized her dream of riding across North America on a Triumph Bonneville. Perhaps her name says it all, but when you hear Michelle Hope speak, it really instills in us the possibilities of throwing caution to the wind and choosing to live life to the fullest. That may be different for everyone, but for Michelle who had done the 9-5 job and raised her kids, it meant living like a gypsy, living on the road on a motorcycle.

When Michelle met a motorcycle traveller, Scooter Tramp Scotty, who had been living off his bike for over a decade, she was inspired by his way of life, and she made the decision to buy a bike and learn to ride.

Since 2006 she has been living off her bike, only stopping for two years to go to school, and since February 2015 she has been making a ‘viable drifter income’ doing spiritual healing massage work on the road.

She travels with her companion, Two-Lane, who is a little hairy but very loving. And has moved on to her second bike, bought for her by a complete stranger, someone she has never met before and has never met again.

The road is the only home Michelle knows now, and the only home she wants to know for as long as she can.

Fear of travelling to some countries is instilled in us by the media, or people who haven't been but have heard about these places. When Heather Ellis was required to do a routine medical test to get a Visa to travel to Russia, she wasn’t expecting the news she got from the doctor. If you venture off the pavement, there’s always the possibility that one wrong move and your bike is off the side of a trail or stuck in a mudhole. The question is, do you have what you need to extract your bike? People, winch, or block and tackle?

Jeremy Kroeker and Elle West have been on the road for about three months, making their way to Ushuaia. They’ve spent the last month riding in Colombia and one of the major challenges they’ve faced was what’s called the Trampoline of Death or Devil’s Trampoline, a road known to be the most dangerous road in Colombia. In 1995 Carla King rode a Ural motorcycle around the borders of the United States as an experiment for her publishing company and Ural America. In October 2014, Liz and her partner Con Feyen set out travel from Australia to London with a 12 month window planned for their trip. They had sold, stored or donated all their belongings, except for what they needed for the trip, and while it may seem scary to some people, they were excited about the freedom of being homeless and jobless and without “stuff”. Liz felt no trepidations about not being a very experienced motorcycle rider, and happily set out for London.

Well, after 16 months of riding, they arrived in Iran. Seems their schedule had gone on the wayside and London was not to be attained on this trip. And while at times the trip may have been harder than what Liz thought it would be, she feels she is better off for having done it. She says that “it is never too late to start something new, learn something new and to put yourself in vulnerable situations”. And even now, Liz and Con are planning their next adventure as she hones her skills back in Australia.

This is the time of year many of us are looking to make New Year’s resolutions. It’s a tradition in many countries, to set goals for self improvement or personal gain. 

But, usually these resolutions come with a price - pain. Like having to cut out food you love to lose weight, or the effort of working out to become fitter or maybe cutting out your favourite coffee shop to save more money. All good goals, all with some pain attached to them. Is it any wonder that we forget our new years resolutions as we fall back into everyday life in January?

Instead of setting goals that you see as sacrifice or painful, how about setting a win/win goal? A goal that is achievable, yet fun too. How about a resolution to do at least one trip, one adventure, one outing that stretches your personal comfort zone, yet rewards you with experience. The melding of personal growth with motorcycle adventure. 

But, how to go about it to ensure success? We decided to find out more about setting New Year’s resolutions. We found that in a study at the University of Bristol, Professor Richard Wiseman showed that only 12% of people achieve their goals. Of course, most goals include weight loss, cutting back on alcohol consumption or quitting smoking. The usual. Daunting tasks that are hard to follow through. 

His study showed that men were more likely to succeed if they set definitive goals, instead of general goals such as lose a pound a week instead of just lose weight, or if they focused on the rewards, such as having the opposite sex find them more attractive. Women found it easier to achieve their goals when they shared their resolutions with friends and family. Encouragement not to give up just because they had given in and had some taboo chocolate, goes a long way to being seen as a setback rather than as having failed.

The New Years resolution study resulted in some tips for being successful with your resolutions: avoid previous resolutions, think and plan what your resolution could be, be specific about it and then make only one resolution.

So, this year why not make a fun New Year’s resolution? Make a goal to take that trip you’ve always wanted to do. And do whatever it takes to make sure that you realize that goal. Make a plan, share with friends, focus on the rewards… and get going.

Harley-Davidson has announced the Pan America, an “adventure touring” motorcycle which is projected to be released in May, 2021. There’s been mixed reactions amongst the adventure motorcycle community, as Harley-Davidson has traditionally been known for big and loud bikes. We went to Harley-Davidson and to industry expert Tim Calhoun to get some of our biggest questions answered including what’s behind the thought process of the Harley-Davidson breaking in to the adventure motorcycle market with the new Pan America? Skills Development Activity: Threshold braking

The average experienced rider with or without training stops around at about 70% of the capability of his/her motorcycle and roughly 30% further than the average car. Since most training standards are nearly 40% below the motorcycles capability attending traditional rider training does not help you reach the maximum braking capability your motorcycle offers.  The numbers I have put on the chart below are rounded off to make things simple and are not exact. During guided training your speed should be measured with radar and then adjustments made for brake application.  However in the absence of a school like this in your area this will give you a much better estimate of your ability than the scoring you may have received during any conventional motorcycle training using stopwatch/distance standards.

Setup:

1. Mark off a braking area up to 50’ (15 meters) with chalk on good asphalt or pavement. 2. Make your “begin braking here” point with an easy to see marker such as a bottle or large cone. 3. Check your speedometer accuracy against a GPS or phone app (speedometers or commonly 10% optimistic on speed giving you the impression you stop better than you do) 4. Practice steady approach speeds (each speed on the chart. 5. Have a fellow rider observe you as you practice braking at your “begin braking here” point to ensure you do not begin slowing or braking early.

The Drill:

1. Approach the “begin braking here” point at the speed on the chart, do not slow or brake before the point. 2. When the markers disappear from your peripheral view then begin braking stopping in the shortest distance you safety can. 3. Put down your side stand and take the distance to the leading edge of your tire and compare it against the chart. 4. Do not move up to the next speed until you are relaxed and consistent at the lower speeds. 5. To get a truly accurate measure or to safely learn to brake from speeds higher the listed below it is recommended to work with professional instructors training in this type of skill development such as Puget Sound Safety’s; Advanced Street Skills program (pssnw.com)

When Tom Fitzgerald asked his friend Patrick Farrell if he could talk to him, there was a plan brewing in his mind, one that he wanted Patrick to be a part of. Tom is 80 years old and he’s been a cowboy and ranch hand most of his life. His love for motorcycles began 60 years ago and he’s been riding ever since. When he was 15 he read a Reader’s Digest story about the mysterious Oak Island in Nova Scotia and has always wanted to see it. So, that and his desire to ride 10,000 miles for his 80th year were Tom’s motivation for his most recent adventure with Patrick.

Lorraine Spence is an avid traveler who rediscovered her love for riding motorcycles after a two decade hiatus. She decided her first big trip in 2012 would be across Asia via the BAM road in Siberia, which could be considered one of the last challenges for adventure motorcyclists. Donovan Lucibello hadn’t ridden a motorcycle in years, but when he discovered dual sport riding he decided that he wanted to ride from Montana to Alaska. Having a short window he rode one way and decided to leave his motorcycle in Anchorage with a plan to return the next year. But as it is with life, other things got in the way and then he started a new job. When he was laid off in June of last year he was crushed, but the very next day he made the decision to return to Alaska and finish his trip. And although the country was in the midst of a historic pandemic, he found that he was made to feel welcome by the hospitality, perseverance and generosity of the people he met. For Donovan, the trip to Alaska was ‘motorcycle therapy’ that helped to set him right again.

Just four months after Maryna got her motorcycle license, she met Paul at a motorcycle meet. After months of trying to get Maryna to go on a date with him, telling her to just say yes, she finally relented. Since then, Paul has convinced Maryna to just say yes to almost anything. Buying a home, getting married and then riding the world on motorcycles. They’ve been on the road for almost a year, and now plan to stay out for another year. Motorcycles brought them together, and just saying yes has brought new adventure in to their lives.

After an eight month trip around South America, Jess and Greg Stone fell in love with Guatemala. They moved there in 2016 and adopted a German Shepherd that has since been a regular passenger on the back of Jess’s bike on a custom made carrier. They’re now planning a new adventure, a ride around the world with their dog, Moxie. If you're travelling to or live in the United States, and you're looking for a long distance motorcycle adventure utilizing mainly back roads and trails, the Trans-America Trail may be just what you're looking for.

On the website, it says that dual-sport motorcycle is required for the more challenging sections, and the best time to do the entire trail is probably late June in to early September, to avoid snow in some of the states. The TAT maps and roll charts have been designed to ride only from East to West, no matter where your starting point is. Fuel stops are fairly regular, motel locations are marked on the maps, and if you're camping you might want to do your research ahead of time if using a roll chart, as they're not marked on there. A GPS is not required to do the TAT, as the roll chart is used with your odometer, but the GPS is a great back up.

Make sure you plan well in advance, as you'll have to purchase your maps and roll charts on the TAT website, and allow enough time for delivery. While waiting for it all to arrive, you can start packing and making travel arrangements.

Jenny rode the TAT a couple of times, first on a Yamaha Tenere 660 and then the CBX500 with the Rally Raid package. Where is the DARIEN GAP?

The Darien Gap is also know as the DARIEN ISTHMUS, an isthmus being a narrow strip of land connecting two larger areas with water on either side. You will find the Darien Gap on the Pan American Highway, nown as the “longest motorable road in the world” in the Guiness Book of Records, a popular route for many motorcyclists. The Pan American Highway can be as long as 48,000 km depending what route you choose to take through Canada and the US, with the most popular routes averaging about 30,000 km. Adventurers often start in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska and end in Ushuaia, Argentina, or the reverse. There is no official route in Canada or the United States, but all Interstate Highways in the US have been declared as part of the Pan American Highway. The official Pan American Highway spans from Laredo, Mexico to Buenos Aires in Argentina. Between Panama and Colombia, on the border of Central and South America, you come to the Darien Gap,  just over 160 km (99 miles) long and about 50 km (31 miles) wide of jungle, mountains, swamps and rivers. The only sensible options are to go over it by plane or around it by ship A Few Basic Facts About Darien Gap: There are no roads, only foot paths or trails, no street signs. Exotic wildlife abounds, the likes of which most of have never known, such as jaguars, wild boars and venomous snakes. It's hot, muggy, the forest is thick and the mosquitos atrocious. Dangers are everywhere, there are risks of encountering drug smugglers, poachers, guerrillas and paramilitaries in the Darien Gap, which is also a refuge for murderous outlaws. The Darien Gap is home to indigenous peoples known as the Embera-Wounaan and the Kuna. Why Not Build a Road? In 1971 and 1992 efforts were made to allow a road to be put through the Darien Gap, but both were stopped due to environmental concerns, of which there are many. There is evidence that the Gap has prevented diseased cattle, which cause foot and mouth disease, from spreading in to Central and North America. The indigenous people are concerned that a road may destroy their cultures.  There is the threat of making the Darien Gap more accessible for drug trafficking and the resulting violence. And there is also the need to protect the rainforest. The Darien Gap has been said to be a natural barrier which protects North America.  Crossing the Gap For centuries, the Darien Gap has been a destination and challenge for many explorers and adventurers, and the exploration of it has usually been met with disaster. However, there have been many successful attempts at crossing through the Darien Gap, by two wheel drive and four wheel drive vehicles, rocons, motorcycles, bicycles and by foot. There have been several notable “first of it’s kind” crossings. The first successful crossing in a vehicle was in 1960 in a Land Rover and Jeep. An arduous journey moving an average of only 200 metres or about 650 feet in an hour. It took them nearly 5 months to cross the Gap, as they made their way through the jungle clearing the bush by hand, crossing streams and rivers, making bridges as they went.  The first crossing in a two wheel drive vehicle was in 1961, by a team using three Chevrolet Corvairs, which took 109 days. They completed the expedition having abandoned one of the cars. Between 1971 and 1973, the first fully overland crossing was by Ian Hibell by bicycle. In 1975, Robert L. Webb made the first motorcycle crossing. Between 1985 and 1987, the first vehicle crossing by land only was made in a Jeep by Loren Upton and Patty Mercier in 741 days, they would return in 1995 to cross the Darien Gap again, this time on Rocons. Since then there have been more notable crossings made by motorcycle, on foot or by river boats. To this day, any inland routes remain extremely dangerous. For example, National Geographic Adventure contributing editor Robert Young Pelton and two American backpackers were kidnapped there in 2003 and held for 10 days. In an National Geographic Adventure interview by Nicole Davis, Robert Young Pelton had this to say: "The Darien Gap is one of the last—not only unexplored—but one of the last places people really hesitate to venture to... It's also one of the most rugged places.” and “It's an absolute pristine jungle but it's got some nasty sections with thorns, wasps, snakes, thieves, criminals, you name it. Although cheaper to go this route, it also takes longer and requires some good bit of organization. You need to check your sources out carefully though, as there are some stories of robbery, problems with customs when using smaller boats, etc.

And we are quite used to our gas powered engine, with lots of torque, tanks that hold enough fuel to travel long distances and easy refuelling stations. Hey, it’s a tradition and who doesn’t love to hear the power in their engine? In the last few years though, motorcycle manufacturers have been introducing electric motorcycles. And while it is still a very new thing to us diehard bikers, electric motorcycles are starting to gain a toehold in this competitive industry. Till recently, it’s been the smaller manufacturers that have been leading this possible upcoming trend of quiet moto transport, but the major manufacturers are starting to come on board. When comparing performance of gas power to electric powered motorcycle, a few key points stand out. While traditional gas powered motorcycles are averaging 200 miles on a tank, electric powered motorcycles are only reaching just about half of that amount. But they require almost no maintenance and there are very few moving parts. You can refuel your gas powered motorcycle at almost every corner in any city and almost every town around the world, but it may be more difficult to find a place to recharge an electric bike. And when you do you may need to dedicate some time to this if using a regular 110 V outlet, as it may take up to 10 hours or more. But, dollar for dollar, with fuel costs being so high in some countries, the electric motorcycle could save you $100’s of dollars a year. If you were able to reduce some of that risk by wearing a neck brace would you take advantage of that? My main question going into testing of the Leatt STX Road neck brace was: Is the added protection this offers worth the additional bulk and effort of having take it on and off every time I ride? The STX Road neck brace is Leatt’s “street” specific entry in their lineup. It shares the same technology and many of the same features as one of Leatt’s racetrack or off road specific braces but has a lower profile and some design differences that make it more adept for street/adventure riding.  These differences include a gap in the front of the brace for zipper access, rear scapula wings designed to fit around a back protector and most importantly it is optimized to fit over your riding gear. The general concept of the Leatt neck brace is to prevent extreme forward, backward or sideways extension of the neck in the event of an accident or impact.  It also helps prevent compression of the spine by transferring impact force from the helmet to the brace. According to Leatt the use of one of their neck braces reduces the force of hyper extension (over-bending of the head in rearward direction) by 46%, posterior hyper-translation (extreme movement of the head and helmet to the rear) by 17%, hyper- flexion (over bending of the head in forward direction) by 21%, lateral hyper-flexion (over-bending of the head to one side) by 20% and coupled axial loading (axial force on the spine) by 17%. Those are real numbers that make a very strong argument for wearing one of their braces. Additionally the STX is CE tested and certified as personal protective equipment. After using the brace for a short period of time it became easy to forget that I was even wearing it.  With it’s lightweight build and unobtrusive fit it seems to meld into your riding gear. Also after donning and doffing the STX multiple times with and without gloves in different circumstances it became second nature. The STX has a simple clamshell design that can hinge or be opened on either side with bright red clasps to help draw attention to emergency personnel in the event of an accident. Almost immediately after I started using the Leatt brace I new that the added “hassle” of this extra piece of equipment would be worth it, mostly because it wasn’t really a hassle at all. Honestly the most difficult aspect of getting used to wearing this brace was having the collar on my riding jacket fully fastened with the zipper all the way up. Head checks were another concern I had as far as the day-to-day use of this brace. I had heard from other riders that this was a real issue in older Leatt models, but I found that after a few rides it was just another thing about the STX that I didn’t notice much. My head checks have become much more pronounced because I cannot just glance down and back to either side over my shoulder like I used to but I think that is a good thing. Now when I go to do a head check I keep my chin up and look over my shoulder instinctively getting a good look at my blind spot. In my case it has helped me develop a positive habit. It also helps that the STX Road was designed for street and adventure use giving it a lower profile on the shoulder for this very reason. It may also be worth mentioning that I have a world-class short neck so if I can look over my shoulders to do head checks with this brace on then so can you! Quality and fit have a lot to do with how easily the STX became part of my riding routine. Strait out of the box I was impressed with the STX. Leatt ships every unit with detailed fitting instructions, different sizing pieces, a optional harness to keep the brace in position and all the tools necessary to make adjustments. In my case it took only a few minutes to swap out the medium spacers that come installed on the large size unit for the large spacers. After that one adjustment I haven’t looked back, the fit has been excellent. Leatt has very helpful sizing charts online to ensure you order the proper unit as well. The adjustments you make when you receive the brace are mostly just to dial in the fit for the particular gear you wear or unusual dimensions you might have. All and all I think that the Leatt STX Road neck brace is a fantastic product. The added level of protection is well worth the short adjustment period it takes to get used to wearing it. After several months of testing I feel almost naked riding without it, like I forgot my helmet or gloves. Leatt offers phenomenal quality and more experience in this field than any other manufacturer.  After all they invented this style of neck brace. I have made the STX Road a permanent part of my riding gear and I can’t recommend it enough.
