06 Jul 2021About Abroad | Living where others vacation01:54:40

This week Chase sits down with Bogumil Baranowski, founder of an investment firm in Manhattan, Tedx speaker, author, pilot and sailor, from his current “home” in the Dominican Republic. They discuss his latest book, Living Where Others Vacation, and touch on subjects ranging from the positive effects and implementation of remote work, to life in the Caribbean, and how his humble beginnings in communist Poland helped shape his future. Bogumil traded in his two-hour stressful train commute in the Big Apple for impromptu morning surf sessions - and hopes more people will follow in his footsteps.

You can follow Borgumil on his website (https://bogumilbaranowski.com), and buy Work Where Others Vacation on Amazon (https://amzn.to/3dhoeTo). He’s also on Twitter @bogumil_nyc, and LinkedIn.

26 Sep 2023How to move to Greece w/ the Greek Digital Nomad Visa01:03:49

Eleftheria Charalambous is the Head of Greek Immigration at Lexidy Law in Athens, Greece. Originally from Cyprus, she made her way to Greece years ago, and today she specializes in helping digital nomads and aspiring expats take advantage of the opportunity to come and live in this incredible country. Today we dive into our mutual love for Greece - the food, people, landscapes, history, culture, etc - but most importantly, perhaps the best digital nomad visa in the world. As we come to learn, many remote workers could easily obtain the Greek DN visa via a predominantly virtual process, stay in the Schengen and Greece for multiple two-year stints, eventually obtain permanent residency, all without having to pay Greek taxes. We dive into all of this and much more in this episode of About Abroad!

Note that this episode is for entertainment purposes only. Everyone’s immigration situation is unique and in order to properly evaluate your options, you should speak with a legal representative who specializes in this line of work. Anthony Calvanese is an American who joins the show today from Umbria, Italy, to share how he is calling this place home and working towards obtaining his Italian passport. Italy is one of the few countries in the world that has a formal and fairly straightforward process in place for foreigners to obtain citizenship, so Anthony walks us through the process and shares how you can follow in his footsteps alongside some really practical information and resources. Finally, we go on a quick tour of Italy, touching on some of our favorite locations, the hidden gems, and the highs and lows of life abroad in one of the world’s most popular destinations.

14 Nov 2023Ending Portugal’s NHR tax incentive & getting the Digital Nomad Visa00:57:15

A few weeks ago the Portuguese government suddenly announced the intention to end their Non-Habitual Residents (NHR) program - a tax incentive that has lured countless foreigners to Portugal since its inception 15 years ago. This proposal suggests the program will no longer be available to anyone after December 31, 2023, and some headlines seem to suggest that Portugal is no longer in the business of wanting to attract expats and digital nomads. But as I discussed with Diana Andrade, Head of Portugal Immigration at Lexidy Law, this is definitely not the case and there are still many questions yet to be answered. Today Diana and I dive into the changes coming with NHR and a potential new tax incentive coming to replace it. We also dive into the Portuguese Digital Nomad visa and the D7 visa, as well as all the other reasons beyond a tax incentive.
