Show notes
Wine is from my Good Pair Days box and is Mirabello Rose.

A Yarn Story is now sponsoring the Bear Flat Cricket Club and we look forward to attending a game at some point.

Kayleigh was in the states for vacation for a couple of weeks and told us all about that including the lovely yarn she picked up at Crazy for Ewe in Maryland where her grandma is the store manager. She even made it as a guest on the Crazy For Ewe YouTube!

Kayleigh came home with some Noro Madara in a very Carmen’s pink, it’s gorgeous. Question is, which vest does she knit with it?

Kayleigh is finally making good progress on Fierce by Kate Oates after having to frog everything she knit on the plane on the way to the US. Kayleigh is using Walcot Yarns Origin in Wild Lilac + Spincycle Yarns Dream State in Lovespell. Carmen has yet to cast-on but will be knitting Fierce in the colors Fireweed + Dream World.

We are so excited to announce that we will be at Rhinebeck this year! In fact, Walcot Yarns will be exhibiting at Wool & Folk with our friends les Garçons on Friday Oct 20, 2023

The plan is to make Raingelt Slouchy Beanies by Rastus Hsu for Wool & Folk in all the bright shades of Walcot Yarns Opus. We might both also try to knit Mastiha by Thea Colman to wear at Rhinebeck as well.

Basically too many things we want to knit, so we need to get on with it!

What we're wearing:

What are we knitting?

  • Kayleigh has a test knit for Maxim Cyr on the go, “Plump it up” using Walcot Yarns Fluff and Spincycle Yarns Plump (2 skeins of each are needed)
  • Carmen is working on Liebling by Camilla Vaad in Spincycle Yarns Plump Next Level. She’s adapting the pattern to make it a t-shirt and is adding bust darts for a perfect fit.

Lastly, Carmen is working to finish her Stockholm Vest by PetiteKnit in Isager Tweed and Silk Mohair.

We show off some of the gorgeous new Shirley Brian Deconstructed Fade Sets, they are all glorious to be honest.

Kayliegh is very jealous as Carmen grabbed a Spincycle & Ritual Dyes Knitters Backpack collaboration. It’s beautiful.

03 Sep 2024Crafting Through the Generations: A Special Knitting Episode with My Mom00:53:15

This special episode comes to you from Redmond, Oregon where I - Carmen, owner of A Yarn Story - host my mother, Gisela, for a special in-person conversation.

We discuss our shared passion for knitting and crafting, diving into Mom's history with sewing and knitting that began in her childhood in Germany. Mom recounts her journey from teaching sewing in Colorado to managing a store and eventually creating patterns and working on high-profile projects for fashion magazines in New York.

I loved exploring Mom's innovative approaches to knitting and her love for combining yarns (which have certainly influenced my philosophies) on selecting knitting projects. We take a look through a collection of Mom's beautiful handmade sweaters and chat about the importance of community and creativity in crafting.

We wrap up the episode with talk about upcoming events at A Yarn Story, including our luxury knitting retreat in Bath, England (where Mom will join as a special guest!)
