17 Feb 2017The Players Guide to the Sabbat - Episode 1102:28:12

In this episode, we discuss the book, "the Players Guide to the Sabbat." It is the first Vampire: the Masquerade sourcebook to fully describe the Sabbat. Many prominent Sabbat-related elements of the setting, such as the antitribu and the Paths of Enlightenment, were introduced for the first time in this book. Additionally, the Lasombra and Tzimisce were described in detail for the first time in this book. This is a much longer podcast than normal, and we hope you folks enjoy it. We tried not to ramble or get overly detailed, but clearly the Sabbat is something we enjoy as players and storytellers. Thanks for listening!

11 Mar 2017The Storytellers Handbook to the Sabbat - Episode 1401:03:00

Storytellers Handbook to the Sabbat is the second sourcebook to describe the Sabbat, and serves as a companion to the earlier Players Guide to the Sabbat. The Handbook fleshes out background elements of the sect, and introduces two new Sabbat bloodlines. The book advanced the characterization of the Sabbat as thoroughly infested with infernalists, which persisted until Vampire: The Masquerade Revised Edition. This book also introduced the notion of Vicissitude as an infection — a concept that was later revisited in a drastically different form in Dirty Secrets of the Black Hand.

22 Jun 2018Caine's Chosen: the Black Hand - Episode 8100:35:10

Today, we look at a mysterious group of mystical assassins who await the rapidly approaching Ghenna to take their place besides Caine. Like many other Vampire: the Masquerade books, Caine's Chosen is presented from many different sources and perspectives. This allows the book to have a healthy dose of subjectivity and complexity.

28 Jul 20181st Edition: Revisited - Episode 8601:09:34

In this very normal episode, Bob and Nate honor the release of V5 by going back in time and reviewing a few 1stedition books we missed. What did we miss?
First, we talk about 17-page module, Blood Nativity. This story serves as an introduction to Vampire: the Masquerade and was published by Atlas Games in 1991 for White Wolf. We have briefly mentioned this in previous podcasts, but we get a bit deeper in this review.
Next, we discuss the 36-page module, Blood Bond, also from 1991. This story explores the mystical blood bond, as well as centuries-old feud between two elder vampires.
Finally, we discuss the 83-page story supplement, Ashes to Ashes, published in 1991 by White Wolf. This book continues the chronicle, Forged in Steel, and the battle between the prince of Chicago and Gary, IN. This book, as well as Blood Bond, are part of the Chicago Chronicles collection 3.

10 Aug 2018Gen Con Meetup Extravaganza - Episode 8700:46:47

In this episode, Bob and Nate sit down with the Jackalope LARP folks to chat about LARP, awesome books, Sabbat and the Night in Question. What's "The Night in Question?" Well, funny you should ask...

The Night In Question is a fully-immersive rules-light LARP experience, taking the lessons and inspirations of the new Nordic-style games such as Enlightenment in Blood and End of the Line, then adding a horrific splatterpunk twist. Other games have focused on the Camarilla and Anarch aspects of the setting – the Masquerade, moving among the mortals in secrets and the politics of the undead. The Night in Question is different.

It will emphasize a frightening and engulfing story, focusing on the monstrosity of the Sabbat, visceral horror of their dark rites and a blood and guts feel reminiscent of films like From Dusk Til Dawn and Near Dark, creating a unique World of Darkness event using intense visual effects, high quality props, set design and costuming. It will be a “retro” Sabbat event, and will reflect a classic monstrous Sabbat mythos.
