14 Feb 202263. Is Luck Real? Is It Biblical?00:34:07

Are You Feeling Lucky? Cross your fingers this episode will be a good one! "Good luck" is a common phrase we all have said one time or another, but is there such thing as "good" luck? Is there even such thing as luck? What about superstition?

On today’s podcast, Pastor Derek and Pastor Jackie talk through the concept of luck and superstition. Sometimes we deem certain people as lucky or unlucky, but is that supported biblically? We've all engaged in activities, like athletes eating a specific meal before game day or wearing a certain outfit to a new job interview because we believe that we will somehow have increased chances of success. We dig into how faith in God and luck/superstition mesh (or don't) and where we should go with things. We hope you enjoy and have the "luck" of being able to listen to this without distractions!

21 Feb 202264. Which Way Is Right: Burial Or Cremation?00:36:04

In recent years, over half of the dead have been cremated which has never been seen before. Does what happens to our bodies after death even matter though? Why are so many people choosing cremation and what does the Bible have to say about it?

On today’s podcast, Pastor Derek and Pastor Jackie talk through the history of cremation and look at Bible verses related to the decision of whether to bury or cremate. Although there are not many prescriptive texts in Scripture about this topic, there are many descriptive ones that we must take into consideration. To take things a step further, we look at the issues of how we interact with the dead, regardless of what happens to their body, and talk through some theological problems with talking to a grave or keeping ashes in an urn. We hope this topic is interesting and helps inform your decision on what you would have done with your body after death.

16 May 202276. Are Christians Required To Tithe?00:34:42

Money. Tithes. Offerings. Even just reading the words in a church context can make people uncomfortable, but should they? Where does tithing come from and is it something we still should be doing today, or is the church just trying to make a profit?

On today’s podcast, Pastor Derek and Pastor Jackie talk through the history of tithing in the Bible (which predates the Mosaic Law, believe it or not.) From there, we look at the principles of giving and how Christians should think about their tithes and offerings today. In a discussion that makes many uncomfortable and sometimes gives preachers the heebie-jeebies to preach about, we hope that you find clarity on the biblical view of tithing and can have a godly perspective on the issue!

23 May 202277. What Is Gluttony And Why Is It Wrong?00:35:44

How many slices of pizza is acceptable before its sin? Who gets to determine that anyways?! We've all heard of gluttony, but what is it exactly?

On today’s podcast, Pastor Derek and Pastor Jackie talk through the biblical view of gluttony and how its one of the most overlooked and even endorsed sins in America today. Although the word itself isn't used often in Scripture, the Bible does have plenty to say about how we should deal with overindulgence. Our hope is that if you are struggling with gluttony today, this episode can be an encouragement to you to repent from that sin and exercise self-control to glorify Jesus!

If we already have established churches, what is the point of making new ones? Is "church planting" even used in the Bible?

On today’s podcast, Pastor Jackie and guest of the show, Pastor Rickey, talk through the background of church planting and the importance of it from a Gospel perspective. With Pastor Derek out of town, Pastor Rickey brings his insight about how God has called him and his family out of Mississippi to plant a Gospel-centered church near the Twin Cities. 06 Jun 202279. Should Christians Support Gun Control?00:37:18

In light of the tragic mass shooting in Uvalde, TX, people all over are asking: "What are we going to do to stop this?!" One of the big questions is over firearms and specifically what their role should be in America. This is the gun control debate.

On this episode, we pose the question, "Should Christians support gun control?" Who is ultimately responsible? Would tighter gun control laws have kept this shooting from happening? Would a criminal find a way to do it regardless of the law? What does the Bible say about weapons and defense of oneself. Similar to a podcast we did a couple years ago about carrying a firearm, we speak to the gun control debate, using Scripture and statistics, to walk through a very controversial issue. **To be clear, we all believe these shooting to be tragic and want them to stop. People will disagree on how to make this happen and that's the interesting part of the debate.**

13 Jun 202280. Is It Wrong To Judge?00:34:38

"Who do you think you are to judge me?! Only God can judge." Ever heard this before? We so often hear that we are not to judge others, but is that really what the Bible says?

On this episode, we pose the question, "Is it wrong to judge?" Being 'judgey' is one of the most common complaints against Christians calling out lifestyles they disagree with, but is that objectively wrong to do? The Bible says a lot about judgement and we dig into the difference between righteous judgment and unrighteous judgment. Our hope is that as you listen, you'd have a clearer understanding of the role of "judging" in the Christian life and to give you the Scriptural support to stand behind your beliefs.

What does "race" really mean and is it different than ethnicity? How should we view others who look and act differently than us? America is all about the separation of church and state, but what exactly does that mean? (Hint: the media has it wrong.)

On today’s podcast, Pastor Derek and Pastor Jackie talk through the realm of Christianity and politics. Should we be involved, or should our only focus be sharing the Gospel with the lost? "You can't be pro-Science and be a Christian" - The World.

Is this claim true though? Is it possible for science and the Bible to actually align, or are they vehemently opposed to one another?

On this podcast, Pastor Jackie and Pastor Derek talk through some historical examples of claims the Bible has made regarding the world that science once disagreed with, but has actually come around to agree with! At the end, Max gives practical advice for how to share the Gospel with Muslims. We hope that this is an encouraging episode that brings clarity on differences between Islam and Christianity.

05 Dec 2022104. Is It Okay For Christians To Use Advent Calendars?00:31:13

Advent calendars have a long history, but is it a good one? Is it okay to give kids toys/treats to teach them about Christmas? Do these calendars just distract from what Christmas is actually about?

On today’s podcast, Pastor Derek and Pastor Jackie talk through the history of Advent and dig through a lot of Scripture about Jewish festivals and God’s role in ordaining those to see if the same might apply to Advent. We hope that as you listen to this, you are encouraged by the Scriptures so that you and your family can decide for yourselves whether Advent calendars are right for you!

Is the Bible even history?  Doesn't modern science disprove the Bible?  How do we know if any of it is trustworthy?

If we're called to help the poor and needy, isn't socialism the answer?  Would Jesus be voting for this worldview today?

Churches are adopting CRT...should they?  Can it be used as an analytical tool for the Gospel?

On this episode, we address the question, "Should Christians be critical of Critical Race Theory?"   Critical Race Theory, or CRT, is finding it's way into evangelical circles at a rapid rate and has been adopted in American culture.  In fact, it's an issue that is starting to divide the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC), one of the biggest denominations in America.  So what's the big deal?  Is this a good and helpful theory for sharing the Gospel and accomplishing Jesus' Great Commission or does it detract from it?  We spend time defining CRT and the implications it has on Christianity as well as looking at what Scripture has to say about some of the core tenants of CRT.  Our hope is that as you listen, you grow in a knowledge of God and his Word as well as helping you to see this topic from a biblical framework.

Are Christians to always obey the government or are there times to defy orders? What does the  Bible say?

Every little girl in America seems to be enamored with unicorns. Dragons have long been viewed as the scariest of creatures and are seen throughout our culture, but did they ever actually exist?

On today’s podcast, Pastor Derek and Pastor Jackie talk through the history of unicorns and dragons to see where they came from and how various cultures view them. From there, we look at what the Bible has to say and believe it or not, “unicorn” is used 11 times in the Bible! (KJV) Finally, we give our verdict on whether or not we believe that either of these creatures existed. Spurred on by a question from Jackie’s kids, this was a fun episode that should be enjoyable for all ages!

Christians can agree that black lives (and all lives) matter, but should Christians support BLM the organization? What do they really stand for, and does it align with the Bible?

On today’s podcast, Pastor Derek and Pastor Jackie talk through the background of BLM, including the political history of the founders of the movement, as well as a few of the core tenants that they have built their organization upon. It’s generally accepted that any sin is forgivable…except one! But which sin is that? Can a Christian commit it? What happens if we do commit that sin?!

13 Mar 2023108. What Is The Sin That Leads To Death?00:32:49

We know all sins lead to spiritual death, but why then does John tell us of a specific sin that leads to death? Is this alluding to the unforgivable sin, or a sin that leads to physical death? Is there more than one?

On today’s podcast, Pastor Derek and Pastor Jackie talk about the sins that lead to death and those that don’t mentioned in 1 John. This has been a controversial question for Christians because the context just isn’t super clear for us today. We do our best to present a few different options of what sins John could be talking about and how we ought to consider this in light of our prayer life for others!

20 Mar 2023109. Is It Wrong To Watch “The Chosen?”00:32:56

19 Jun 2023122. Is Taxation Theft?00:26:55

Ugh, taxes. One of the things that the average person can agree with anyone else on is disdain for taxes. Some think we should tax the rich more, others think we should have a flat tax, and some even believe we shouldn't have taxes at all. Is taxation theft?

In today’s episode, Pastor Jackie and Pastor Derek look at a story of a disagreement between Paul and Barnabas and look at what we can learn from that and apply to our world today where Christians disagree on all sorts of things, some significant and some not so significant. It's the summer months and everyone is itching to get outside and to the beach for some sun...but with that comes a lot of skin and even more debate as to how people should dress. What is modesty and is it important or is it overemphasized?

In today’s episode, Pastor Jackie and his wife, Carina, talk through the concept of modesty and how Christians ought to show (or not show) their bodies. They talk through what it means to be a temple of the Holy Spirit, the idea of causing a fellow believer to stumble, and what it looks like to dress modestly as well as the heart behind it. Our hope is that as you listen, you will be encouraged to honor God in all that you do, even as you decide what to wear each morning!

10 Jul 2023125. Do We Keep Family Relationships In Heaven?00:28:23

One of the few things that gives hope to someone who has lost a loved one is that they will see them again in heaven. Will the relationship be the same though, or will it look different? Will we keep the same relationships in heaven that we had on earth?

Although Scripture doesn't give a specific answer on this, there are plenty of verses that provide some context that bring light to this idea. Our hope is that as you listen, you will be encouraged about relationships here on earth that have been lost because God gives plenty of evidence that we will reunite with our loved ones in some capacity in heaven someday.

Does God make distinctions in our sins? We know that our world views wrongdoing differently, but does God?

As we dig deeper into the Scripture, we find that God has a very clear view on many different sins, as well as different punishments according to the offense committed. In today’s episode, Pastor Jackie and Pastor Derek talk through the practice of organ donation while living and after death and whether its something God would want us to do. 13 Nov 2023143. Is It Wrong For Churches To Fundraise?00:39:42

Capital campaigns, bake sales, church dinners, and Girl Scout cookie sales...how should churches navigate these things? Is it wrong to try to sell things in a church building while people are coming to worship?

In today’s episode, Pastor Jackie and Pastor Derek answer a question from a church member about whether selling food/items in a church building is acceptable or not. Jesus has flipped tables over before due to this sort of thing, so we seek to navigate the Scriptures carefully and see the heart behind these things and whether or not it's ever acceptable to do. In a world of sales and solicitation, it's important that the church navigates it right.

27 Nov 2023145. Did God Really Hate Esau?00:33:44

"Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated..." Wait, what?! How can a loving God hate someone? Does this mean that God chooses some for salvation and others for destruction?

In today’s episode, Pastor Jackie and Pastor Derek talk through a controversial passage of Scripture (Romans 9) to try to understand how God can supposedly hate someone while loving another. Many doctrines have come out of this idea of God choosing Jacob over Esau based on nothing good or bad they had done and apply that to salvation for us today. Although this topic may seem confusing, the Bible is actually pretty clear on what God means when He says that He hates Esau and we seek to explore that and give some application for that today!

15 Jan 2024152. How Should Christians Respond To "Miraculous Healings?"00:39:27

Many of us have heard a story or two of a cancerous tumor miraculously disappearing, leaving medical personnel stunned. We also know of churches that specialize in "faith healing." So what do we make of it all? Is it all actually a miracle from God, or a hoax?

In today’s episode, Pastor Jackie and Pastor Derek answer a listener question about miraculous healings and our attitude towards them. Should we respond with skepticism, or is that a lack of faith? Does God still heal us today in miraculous ways? We seek to look through Scripture to build a roadmap of how we ought to approach miracles today to have a proper view that allows us to exalt and glorify God while also not being deceived.
