The true story behind my first company. This is perhaps the most vulnerable story I've ever told and one most people would never dare tell. Hopefully, you can learn from my mistakes and take your own lessons from this crazy and totally candid story. As a founder, you have to set your vision and stick to it. So, if you are building a new company, or mobile app, this episode will be especially poignant. 29 May 2023 | 55) Things To Know Before Investing In Passive Income Assets | 00:23:39
Investing your extra wealth for passive income producing businesses can yield big returns! The money printer passive income seeking entrepreneurs want, however, is not an opaque and mysterious black box. Neither is it an instrument of e-commerce that works without some sophisticated initial setup and routine management. There are the necessary refinements of a business plan to serve an ultra-niche online market that must be made to find a sustainable, long-term business model. There’s also the routine maintenance and management of income investing businesses for customer service, quality control, and administration. Even investments like stocks, bonds, and ETFs require the investor’s attention, care, and direction. With automated online businesses investors pay more attention, care, and up front work to understand and direct their investment. These are the trade offs for more control over what the business does to increase sales or profits. The result is more opportunities for bigger returns on investment. *** Listen to New Zen Business episodes every Monday - Available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Overcast & More Find @itsjmaxim on Instagram where you can get free Marketing, Mindset and Money tips. Geoffrey Campbell, a partner at Praxis Engineering, comes on the show to talk about how data is shaping the way content is made today. Campbell & Zen Business host, Jonathan Maxim, have worked together before for Universal Music Group, representing major artists like Taylor Swift, Migos, and Billy Eilish, among others. Big data is changing how content is being created from large scale productions all the way down to individual creators. Access to statistically meaningful information has produced useful insights for content creators & beyond. The content we see created today is, at least, in part a result of these essential economics of content markets. In addition to discussing content markets & techniques related to valuable proprietary & publicly available data, including scraping and analytics, our guest discusses with Jonathan the use of AI to scale content creation strategies. Listen in to learn how Spotify and Netflix have used original content production to increase their companies’ profit margins. **** Listen to New Zen Business Episodes every Monday - Available on Spotify, Apple Podcast, Overcast & More Find @itsjmaxim on instagram where you can get free marketing, Mindset and Money Tips. 07 Feb 2022 | 26) Setting Boundaries in Life and at Work for 2022 | 00:39:08
Happy New Year, ZenBiz fam! After a short hiatus for the holidays and fruitful Q4, I am excited to return with some very special episodes for all my listeners. The last two years has affected entrepreneurs in different ways - some of us have taken full advantage of these difficulties as a means of creating new experiences and challenges to further grow. As the first month of 2022 is coming to a close, I have taken on challenges in lieu of the new year to strengthen the habits I have worked hard to perfect - such as daily routines, mind and body health, work habits, and so much more. One that seems to always revisit me is boundary setting. I guarantee I am not the only one to re-examine my personal boundaries for the new year, as even those firmest and dedicated to holding their boundaries can even feel that their boundaries are undermined.". No matter who you are or how strongly you may hold to these, exterior forces can always impede your personal barriers lead you to question yourself - "Am I really holding true to my boundaries? Am I letting people cross my boundaries to avoid conflict? Do I really even understand what my barriers i've set?" Today we will be discussing how to identify ourselves by putting our boundaries into a written format, how we are actually enforcing them in daily life, and which new boundaries we will be adopting in 2022. - Listen to New Zen Business episodes every Monday - Available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Overcast & More Find me on Instagram @itsjmaxim - where you can view my Business Mindset & Lifestyle Tips. 14 Mar 2022 | 29) How to Gain More Energy Through Corrected Breathing | 00:33:48
Welcome back to the Zen Business Podcast! Let's talk about breathing. Are you doing it wrong? Most don't assume there is a strategy to "breathing correctly", but there is a correct way to do it and it may take some learning. The way we apply our breathing vs. how we breathe due to habit can totally change your overall wellness in terms of storing energy, releasing stress, filtering out harmful germs, body temperature, and more. I recently went through a surgical procedure to fix a deviated septum to improve my breathing - I couldn't tell you enough how much it changed my breathing abilities. Deep and controlled breathing is common knowledge for those who meditate, but we usually don't know the science that differentiates mouth breathing versus nose breathing and Energy Synthesis. Doing the research will lead you to find that nose breathing will filter the air you breathe in a healthier way, as well as release certain chemicals that benefit other parts of your body, such as lungs, bladder, digestive track, and more. Listen to "How to Gain More Energy Through Corrected Breathing" to see how you can change your breathing habits for the better. Patrick Lauritz, COO at Skara CBD has done a Military tour in the Middle East, seen war first hand, as well as seen the battlefield of business. After serving in the military, he came back to LA to study and develop products in the CBD arena, with his flagship product Skara CBD. Beyond just business and CBD, Patrick has taken it upon himself to dive extremely deep into the human mind, and unpacking the conscious and unconscious aspects of how we operate, so we can start living more intentionally. “I see Skara as a leader in cutting-edge health and beauty products. 28 Jul 2022 | 33) My Coach Passed Away | 00:40:22
There's really no reason to "Learn the hard way" yourself. That simple concept is what led me to value coaching so much. Fast forward to Ian, my coach who passed away. This 23 year old was revered by executives twice his age so I hired this true visionary alien when I was 27, and even after five years, the knowledge he shared is extremely relevant. He was so on target with his recommendations, I almost couldn't wrap my head around it at first. I was much more of a doer and this guy was absolutely brilliant; Out-of-this-world connections being made in front of my eyes. He was so big picture and profound.

08 Nov 2021 | 24) K&J Founders Episode - Mindfulness & Work Habits with Kale Panoho & Adam Stinson | 01:06:24
In this episode of the Zen Business Podcast, I am joined by two of my long-time cohorts and business partners from our own K&J Growth Hacking Company to dig deep into work habits and the changes that made us stronger through the years. For years, the K&J Partner team (Kale Panoho, Adam Stinson, and myself, Jonathan Maxim) have been optimizing the way companies grow online. As a result, we lead our online marketing firm, K&J Growth Hackers, to become one of the most fast-growing marketing companies known to publishings like Inc, Forbes, Entrepreneur, and more. With over 200 major companies under our belt (like TikTok, Xfinity, & Monster Energy), the K&J team did not simply get lucky and meet the right people. It took many years of loss, learning, and sacrifice to bring the company to where it is today, thanks to the hard-working minds that keep us going in the U.S. and New Zealand offices. In today's episode, the K&J team flips the script and picks my brain on mindfulness habits, career changes and so much more. How did K&J Start? Jonathan and Kale met during a business conference as marketing competitors. Once realizing that their mindsets and vision for their companies we more similar than different, the two decided to partner up to create their own marketing company, K&J Growth hackers. With offices in Dunedin, NZ and Los Angeles, CA, both individuals built a driven marketing team & strong client portfolio that lead K&J to market for companies as big as the New Zealand Government, TikTok, Monster Energy, University of Delaware and so much more. Adam Stinson, a young business major, met Jonathan over 4-5 years ago during a tech and entrepreneur summit where Jonathan was a speaker. Trying to discover the path towards a career in business marketing, Adam inquired for Jonathan's advice, which lead to Adam beginning an unpaid internship where he learned directly under Jonathan everything he needed to know about marketing. After a few years of growth, Adam re-joined Jonathan & Kale at K&J and quickly worked his way to Junior Partner of the company. Now, Adam supervises and oversees the client-facing part of K&J as part of the director's team. 22 Nov 2021 | 25) Dr. Kizzy Parks: The Importance of IO Psychology in the Workplace | 00:48:25
In today's episode of the Zen Business podcast, we invite businesswoman and psychologist Dr. Kizzy parks to discuss her journey to entrepreneurship and her use of IO psychology in the workplace From hustling golfballs to seasoned entrepreneur & workplace psychologist, Dr. Kizzy Parks, like myself, had entrepreneurs' blood coursing through her veins from an early age. With humble beginnings and perseverance, Dr. Parks worked her way from blue color jobs to government contracting & advising, using industrial-organizational psychology or "IO Psychology". Today, she lets us get a taste of what it's like to run her own successful business built on mindfulness and understanding. According to studies, only 13% of the psychology field is made up of IO psychologists, making her position very unique but in high demand. With her experience in negotiating, advising, and marketing these mental systems within a government job, Kizzy created a successful business by utilizing the "technical side" and the "human side" of psychology in her workplace. Dr. Parks found that when it comes to navigating workplace politics, giving employees the freedom of expression and understanding was vastly important to balancing the structure of her business. Kizzy believes the way to build a supportive environment is through meticulously choosing each and every client and employee with great care and insight. And, by selecting a team and clients with the same ideals, same mindset, and the capacity for mental reframing, she developed a framework for the perfect workplace environment - learned from the negotiation & psychology that comes with working within government contracting. Kizzy, to put it softly, embodies the pure drive to help other people. Listen to the episode to hear us delve into subjects like psychology in the workplace, mindfulness, the power of money vs appreciation, intent vs. impact, misconceptions about work ethics, and so much more! 23 Jan 2023 | 46) The Future of Investing: Automated Businesses | 00:24:42
As 2023 opens, e-commerce businesses, managed by automated means and put together by a growing strata of digital growth artisans, are spinning up all over the place. Of course, not every online promise to make a million dollars in a month is true, but there are certainly unique opportunities emerging. With the advent of automated businesses, many entrepreneurs are making more money than ever in this niche. Drop-shippping products on Amazon and Shopify has been dead since the pandemic. Firms like these are burnt out trying the same trick too many times or they aren't evolving their ideas and strategies to meet changes in the digital market. With all the new advertising channels constantly opening up and growing in 2023, and the quality of the tooling for online business management today, starting a successful automated business is the entrepreneurship of the future. The entire calculus of the investment game is changing at a very rapid pace. 04 Oct 2022 | 38) How To Manifest Anything You Want (Part 3) | 00:20:49
Dive into the practical and tactical approach to actually manifest what you desire. However, be aware: The bigger the thing you wish to manifest, the higher your vibrations and state of awareness have to be. This episode is the third in my series on manifestation. Building on Part 1 and Part 2, where three key laws and seven critical mindset habits are discussed, I dive into the nitty-gritty of this mystical practice. Let's take a step back, slow down and feel into our internal compass. This is a core element to manifestation. Instead of thinking about it, just feel it. Going over several tips, like how a mood board can be an extremely helpful tool to develop this metaphysical ability, we set out intentions. The visual of a mood board will help produce a springboard effect for your energy. You have to calibrate the signals between your heart and mind, to bridge the gap and actualize your dreams. This episode is all about calibration and leaning into the moment, the feeling, your mind, and ultimately, your heart and higher self. *** Listen to New Zen Business episodes every Monday - Available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Overcast & More Find me on Instagram @itsjmaxim - where you can get free Marketing, Mindset and Money tips. 01 Apr 2024 | 78) Marco Yammine; Viral App Design | 00:50:58
Most startups are built on hope. The ones that succeed are those that are built around value. On this episode of the Zen Business podcast, your host Jonathan Maxim sits down with a serial entrepreneur and app builder who delivers the value to users that makes apps go viral and earn life-changing profits for their founders. Traveling all the way from Italy, Marco Yammine shares his experience and knowledge of successful app design and marketing. Marco has built and helped launch – from “Zero to one” – over 50 apps. He makes products that are really built around value for the user. It’s all too easy for founders to get lost in their great ideas. That’s because of the natural human tendency to evaluate business ideas with rose-tinted glasses. Marco’s philosophy for building apps is focused on execution over ideas. The practical aspects of apps that people enjoy & that solve a problem, delivering value in the process. Another is timing your solution with the trends in the market. You will learn in this episode, for example, how to tune in to the market you’re focused on. Then you will find a problem or opportunity that will form the basis for a quality app that users download, use, and rave about. The problem or the opportunity has to come first, then the idea. **** Listen to New Zen Business episodes every Monday - Available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Overcast & MoreFind @itsjmaxim on Instagram where you can get free Marketing, Mindset and Money tips. 24 May 2021 | 19) Finding Your Author Voice - How to publish for Forbes, Entrepreneur, and More! | 00:25:09
In this episode of Zen Business, I talk through the process of how I went from shooting and writing for my own small fashion blog, to having consistent publications in Forbes, Entrepreneur, Voyage LA, Medium.com, and others. Finding your "author voice" seems to be one of the first potholes new aspiring writers trip on when beginning their journey. Many up-and-coming authors have a vision for what they want to write about someday, but this is an expectation that can quickly kill the inspiration if we try to start off on a niche we don't actually have. Even if you really love the subject matter, it's not as simple as just jumping in headfirst. What if you want to write about dog training, but have never trained, or much less, owned a dog before? How do you get where you want to be? The simple fact about writing is that you must focus on what you are best at to begin. Many love to write, so how do you stand out from the others? To start, you must simply just start doing it. Sitting down every day and dedicating a few hours to anything you can put on paper, even if it's just word vomit at first. Having the discipline to write is one thing every author can agree that can be the biggest roadblock in the creative process. Once you have traction on writing about something you know, you begin to find the audience you want. Partnering with other up-and-coming writers and imploring your work to small publication companies or blogs is a sure-fire way to find new readers and expand your knowledge of your dream topics! If people like your work, they will follow you on the next journey in your writing adventures, and you will inevitably curate your audience as you take steps towards bigger and better opportunities as an author. 31 May 2021 | 20) Building a Badass Financial Portfolio - Paying yourself, Diversity, & Root Learning | 00:26:25
In this episode of Zen Business, I go over some of the key factors of my financial journey that helped me not only gain financial freedom and helped build a profitable portfolio, but through many wins and losses, taught me the importance of teaching yourself financial wisdom. In this episode, we learn the following: - "Planting Seeds" with your financial investments Most of us do not learn how to be wise with our money in the public school system, and we tend to rely on the word of our parents and elders when it comes to being smart with investments. Times change, however. Most of our parents may only know limited information, and certain methods are outdated and ineffective. Requiring a college education should not be the only threshold for learning to invest, and you don't have to be of "college-age" to start learning. We all want to know what's smart for our money NOW, right? Teaching oneself how to invest, where to invest, when to invest, and why to invest can be the smartest decision one can make for their future. And the wonderful thing about current times is the limitless sea of public resources and all the other root-learned investors who are able and willing to help you begin your journey. In this episode, we discuss how learning from my losses, diversifying my investments, and years of patience brought me to where I am today. 3 Books for your Financial Widsom mentioned in today's episode - "Richest Man in Babylon" - George Clason - "Profit First" - Mike Michalowicz - "Money Master the Game" - Tony Robbins Find me on Instagram at @itsjmaxim where you can view my Zen Business and Lifestyle Tips. 23 Aug 2022 | 34) Where Most Marketers Fail | 00:41:48
We are extremely picky in who we bring on as clients. They have to bring something to the table that's unique if it's going to be a win-win situation. This is the truth in the matter because we, at the end of the day, are performance-based. Explosive growth does not come from being lucky. There's a formula to it that can be cracked. As a team, K&J drills down into these important differentiators. Adam Stinson, K&J's Junior Partner, joins Zen Business for a discussion on the many issues faced when trying to scale and grow. We dive deep into some of the pitfalls of marketing a new product, service or app. And some of the main reasons we don't want to take on certain clients, speak to larger issues being faced across the landscape of start-ups, big brands, and every business in between. In this discussion, we cover red flags we encounter from founders, new companies and app developers, and the issues that arise around misunderstandings of the space or audience they are targeting. Beyond that, we get into the allure of going "viral". This episode dissects the "quest for virality" and the impact this phenomenon has had on marketing and current trends. Adam ponders, "Are you really a good artist, if you can't sell your art?". *** Listen to New Zen Business episodes every Monday - Available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Overcast & More Find me on Instagram @itsjmaxim - where you can get free Marketing, Mindset and Money tips. 19 Sep 2022 | 37) How To Manifest Anything You Want (Part 2) | 00:34:08
When you are ready to begin manifesting anything you want, this is part of the play book available to you. This episode is the second in our series on manifestation. Continuing forward from the foundational video, where the three key laws were discussed, I introduce the necessary mindset habits that must be understood at a deeper level. Remember, you are literally programming your mind here. One of the critical lessons that must be absorbed, and felt at a subconscious level, is acceptance. You have to accept that you are born with innate desires. Your purpose isn't to feel un-worthy of nice things or more money. We were born with unique gifts and in order to manifest our wishes, you must embrace the creative expression of those gifts. Be warned: This process takes calibration of your heart and mind. You have to have the right mindset because your vision will manifest, whether you like it or not. This episode is all about getting the mindset right and tuning into that frequency . *** Listen to New Zen Business episodes every Monday - Available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Overcast & More Find me on Instagram @itsjmaxim - where you can get free Marketing, Mindset and Money tips. 25 Oct 2021 | 23) How to Make Things Go Viral - Gaining Momentum & Emotional Standpoints | 00:36:16
On today's episode of Zen Business Podcast, I discuss my personal insights & tactics I use to make my work "Go Viral". From social media posts to major business moves to philanthropic endeavors, my job as a growth hacker is to make apps go viral. By using proven and effective strategies on your average tech company, I have developed many case studies and new strategies from my digital marketing experiences. I have had my own fitness tracking/rewards app blew up on Twitter. On the other hand, Monster, TikTok, & Xfinity are just a few of my previous clients since 2014 that went viral under my growth strategies. The roots of virality are a tale as old as time. Literally! Virality existed before Facebook, youtube, and the internet in general, and even before TV and newspapers. Sensational news has always a tight chokehold on the world's emotions. People love a good story whether it's sad, heartwarming, or even downright infuriating. A great story is what you are here to sell, and share-ability matters. Maybe you want to launch a company contest or giveaway with a sweet prize or launch a new app with an innovative or unique service from scratch, or maybe a cause that is extremely personal to you that you'd like to bring awareness to. Outcomes can be amazing, devastating, or simply ineffective depending on your approach. A key factor to this success is to chose your "element" that will make your product or content go viral. Your intentions must be laid out before even considering publishing your future viral hit. Do you present your content in a negative connotation to invoke emotion and rile up people who want change? Do you take the path of positivity to inspire viewers to take action? With whatever you pick, are you doing so for altruistic reasons and with good intentions? What is it that you believe will truly grasp peoples attention long enough for them to buy what you are selling? Listen to the episode to learn about the tactics and strategies that made my work go viral over and over again. 16 Feb 2022 | 27) Your First Ayahuasca Journey: More than Just a Biohacking Tool | 00:35:33
Welcome back to the Zen Business Podcast. Ayahuasca and Psychedelics - Let's talk about it! In the last few weeks of travel that I've being doing for both work and recreation, I found that I returned to home unrested, ansty, and simply just in an unpleasant state of being. An immediate assumption from many would be, "How could vacations and travel cause you to feel more stressed than before? Don't you feel even better after some R&R?". Opposed to what many think about long-term travel, the constant disruption if your spiritual practice can absolutely inhibit your mental and physical wellbeing. Spiritual practices aren't just praying and studying books of faith in a religious or monotheistic format - the little moments of peace, the mental and physical routine you set, and the overall wellness steps you take to align yourself mentally and physically are considered spiritual practice. So, when trying to re-adjust to these practices, a great way to do that is "reconnect with source". This can be much simpler and uninhibited like meditation or breathing practice, or, it can be enhanced by using natural gateways to align this state of being - such as psychedelic substances such as Psilocybin and Ayahuasca. Today, I'll be delving into my first experience with Ayahuasca and reflecting on how this changed me, my intentions, and my spiritual practice - with an extra special reading from my journal entry from my first Ayahuasca experience. - Listen to New Zen Business episodes every Monday - Available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Overcast & More Find me on Instagram @itsjmaxim - where you can view my Business Mindset & Lifestyle Tips. The resolutions you make for a new year fall by the wayside far too quickly, for far too many people. Are you curious why that happens? At the start of each new day, this is a dive into pushing aside excuses, laziness, and complacency to focus on the habits needed to live an extraordinary life (and have a great work-life balance). Would you make a change in the business that threatened its very existence? Here's the story of how we took a massive leap of faith, and ended up doubling our revenue in six months. And why you should be willing to take risks in business, in life and in relationships. Vulnerability is the core of all risk taking and those who avoid risk not only reinforce their insecurity toward perfection but threaten the blessings of an exciting, fulfilling and rewarding life. Follow along as I tell the story of why I made an executive decision to fire 80% of our clients and drop our revenue below costs making the company go unprofitable, in turn having Kale question me, the company and our partnership. 07 Nov 2022 | 41) Why The Lazy Guy Is Richer Than You Are | 00:36:31
New problems require new perspective.A bit of background on the current landscape. Here at K&J, it took us four years to reach 250K per month in revenue. Recently though, we launched a drilled-down business & it took us one month to reach the same milestone. What can be learned here? We stretched our minds to consider the possibility that we could deliver 10x the value at one tenth the cost. We leveraged laziness into getting monster results and outsized outcomes. First, let's step back and say, we are always looking for the outsized outcomes. That is the nature of growth-hacking itself. There's usually always a way to hop, skip, and jump over the blood, sweat and tears most people believe is necessary to get there. The ultimate goal then, is to have the amount of work done, make an enormous impact as a whole. 05 Feb 2024 | 75) What Makes a Winning App Launch | 00:28:23
This episode of the Zen Business podcast could be your ticket to a huge number of high-quality, low-cost downloads if you’re ready to launch or relaunch your business’ killer app in 2024 In today’s episode, Jonathan Maxim breaks down the elements that all successful app launches have in common. This isn’t textbook theory or guesswork. It’s based on 23 launches that Maxim led in 2023. There were 18 winners and 5 losers. But what made the winning app launches successfully profitable for their businesses, and what made the losing launches fail, was not random or haphazard. Winning campaigns that hit their goals & rocketed to 10,000+ downloads at a profitable cost-per-download all followed similar patterns & shared common characteristics. The campaigns that did not succeed also failed in all the same ways. For example, and we found this really interesting— Most of the winning app launches had an offer that was just good (not mind-blowing, disruptive, or super great). In fact, some of the apps with a really great offer did not perform as well at launch. Jonathan explains why in the pod. In this episode, you’ll learn how to tell if you have enough budget runway for your app launch, how to follow a clear and consistent launch strategy, and how to make sure your product has the magic in it with analytics to see what users are doing on your app. Listen to New Zen Business episodes every Monday - Available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Overcast & MoreFind @itsjmaxim on Instagram where you can get free Marketing, Mindset and Money tips. 11 Oct 2021 | 22) Why You Shouldn't Buy a House - Real Estate Fads & the Millennial Mindset | 00:33:07
Today, I discuss the decision that many millennials are faced with when they reach their 30s. "Do I really need to buy a home"? The 2008 market crash sent many middle-class and lower-income families into a financial spiral that we have yet to forget. And after 2 of the most notably economically strained years that we have faced in the 21st century, we begin to feel the similarities between 2020/2021 & 2008 come true. Does this mean there is another market crash coming? Do we need to be ready for another economic depression? Or are we just a little paranoid from last time? Adults in the Millennial generation have been pressured by their parents to go to college and invest in real estate or buy a home as they reach adulthood. Sure, at one point, this may have been sound advice. You could invest in a nice family home with leftover liquidity a few decades ago. But is this really as applicable now as it was back in the glory days? My generation, although being a pivotal part of the modern tech industry & investment trends, holds over 30% of national debt for student loans. Crazy right? Some haven't even moved out of Mom and Dad's place yet, so it raised the questions again. Will millennials ever benefit from buying a home? Is it bad advice or maybe just not the right time? Are there ways to maximize your liquid assets besides being bound to the financial handcuffs of a 30-year mortgage? We as millennials have the chance to break the cycle and build a new life, debt-free, with optimal investment options. Find out more on this episode about why I chose not to buy a home. 28 Mar 2022 | 30) I took Mushrooms for 15 Days Straight, Here's What Happened | 00:28:17
Psilocybin (aka Magic Mushrooms) is not new to human-kind in terms of medicine. Our ancestors have utilized the power of Fungi to approach Mental, Physical, and Spiritual growth. And now, we are coming full-circle as a society to recognize the benefits of this gift, as opposed to believing the stigma built around Mushrooms. In this case, we are talking about Microdosing. Mushrooms are intimidating to the naked eye, but Microdosing has opened up doors to a whole new world of self-healing. Whether it's common physical ailments, reducing stress, problem resolution, or just creative thinking, Microdosing has proven to have real healing properties on the human body that the average pharmaceutical could not do. For example, the act of alleviating Adrenal Fatigue can be treated by using Mushrooms in very low doses. Because they are loaded with nutrition and therapeutic properties for the mind, mushrooms can help ease this fatigue by relieving stress, improving memory, and inducing better sleep. Isn't that something? However, if the mind is not healing, the stress of daily life can only build so much before we begin to see the physical effects. We may not make the correlation, but we likely have all seen the damage from repressing our emotions. We can only bottle everything for so long. As a entrepreneur with two separate companies, I asked myself "how can Microdosing work for someone like me? How can I incorporate this medicine into my life in a way that's healthy?" Microdosing lets me approach issues as individual steps toward problem resolution, rather than inducing extreme anxiety grouping them all together. In tense situations, the instinct to act in defense is broken down. Instead of than losing sleep and skipping meals to deal with work-overload, my energy is restored, my autonomy is balanced, my mind is present, and I'm ready to attack the day. 07 Jun 2021 | 21) Making Your First Million - Social Pressure & Using Money to Make Money | 00:25:25
In this episode of Zen Business, we dissect the common stigmas about making money and how we can reclaim our purpose with money. Battling insecurity with money and finances can be deep-rooted. If you were like me as a young person, the trials of growing up with financial struggles can reflect how you make decisions throughout your whole life. Breaking the cycle of fearing money, and rather, viewing it as a valuable tool will change your whole outlook on life. Do we fear financial failure and pinch pennies, or do we take hold of the opportunity and maximize our wealth? It's a controversial topic to most when it comes to people who are millionaires. Most people either think they are evil or are our superheroes, as it is quite easy to judge from the sidelines. And If you share your dreams of becoming a millionaire, your friends and family are usually the first to tell you how ridiculous that sounds. Even with some supportive friends, you may still receive flack for sacrificing social time and partying for the grind. The truth is, the dream is not totally unrealistic for most of us with the drive, regardless of what our peers may think or say. The first step one must take towards becoming a millionaire is letting go of that voice that tells us to feel bad about making money. We've heard it all before. In order to make money, you need to spend money. But something that most don't realize is that there are far more options than letting your money sit in a bank account and collect interest, or purchasing stocks and bonds just to wait for 20-30 years to cash. While these can be tried and true methods, millionaires are millionaires for a reason, and that reason is they know that there are far more options for investing than these traditional methods. In this episode, I'm going to tell you 3 steps you can take to set yourself up for financial success. 3 Books for your Financial Wisdom - "Richest Man in Babylon" - George Clason - "Profit First" - Mike Michalowicz - "Money Master the Game" - Tony Robbins Find me on Instagram at @itsjmaxim where you can view my Zen Business and Lifestyle Tips. 22 May 2023 | 54) How To Get Profitable On Ads In 4 Weeks (Or Less!) | 00:19:38
Are your advertising campaigns really getting the fattest part of the fish? If your ad spend is returning $0.50, $0.25, or even as bad as $0.10 profit for every $1 you put into your campaign, your business might be leaving big monthly income on the table! Using our proprietary A/B testing methods at our digital marketing firm, K&G Growth Hackers, we are used to getting campaigns to yield at least a dollar or two back for every dollar spent on ads (That’s why we are performance-based). That kind of ROI is what we’ve come to expect, but we’ve hit our share of home runs with $4 - $10 returns (400% - 1000%) on every dollar spent to run ads. How is that possible? In this episode I’ll get into a basic outline of our process to measure campaigns with clearly specified accountability, metrics, and KPIs for a scientific approach to optimizing ad campaigns. This results in getting useful data really fast to know what decisions to make with your budget, so you have market evidence for what ad creatives, keywords, and demos to cut, and which ones should get a promotion and a raise with your remaining budget because they bring in money. *** Listen to New Zen Business episodes every Monday - Available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Overcast & More Find @itsjmaxim on Instagram where you can get free Marketing, Mindset and Money tips. 18 Apr 2022 | 31) Why We Rejected An Acquisition in the Millions | 00:26:07
Every entrepreneur dreams of having a multi-million dollar exit and retiring to a beach, but it’s not that simple. A close confidante asked me, “If you had ONE chance to make an "exit", would this be the one? Are you willing to give up the last 5+ years of your life for this acquisition?" I provide my thinking behind our answer, no. If you’re considering selling your company or your dream is to exit with your current company, think through a few practical concepts before romanticizing this "dream" scenario. Learn exactly how and why you would want to sell your business, what the aftermath will look like and source your reasoning deep from within before making a conclusive decision. In this episode I explain and discuss Roll-ups, EBITDA, and multiples are discussed during the sharing of our first offer story. Since then we've had 5 offers but have declined them all. Experience is invaluable inside a unique process like an acquisition. Both sides have to feel like they are winning. I'm going to walk through exactly why we said no and what some red flags were in the process - and how many of them could have been prevented by me and my team even though we didn't intentionally cause any. Be careful of the allure of an acquisition. It's not as glamorous as it sounds. 27 Mar 2023 | 49) Four Things I'm Investing In (2023 Edition) | 00:21:11

28 Feb 2022 | 28) Become an Owner, Not a Renter | 00:22:17
Welcome back to the Zen Business Podcast! I have a question, what does "Ownership" mean to you? It's a great word, isn't it? A few years back, someone explained it in the form of an analogy. A group of friends decides to book a vacation and they stay at a beautiful Airbnb. Things get crazy, and the partying leaves the beautiful airbnb trashed. But you and your friends aren't really worried, since there's cleaners and you already paid a security deposit, so you can check out the next day unaffected by your actions. Whereas an owner of the airbnb cares deeply about their investment. They come to clean it up and repair the broken fixtures, clean the floors, and account for damages. Sure, the owner can party too! But they always take into account the wellbeing of their investment. The Renter Mindset means you do not seek growth, but rather seek reward for bare minimums. You do everything to avoid accountability. Your solution to problems is to complain and blame everyone else but yourself. You seek instant gratification and could care less about an investment into the future. "If it's not in your line of sight, it's not your problem." This mindset almost always affects the ones around you, but you could care less. In contrast to this, the Owner Mindset means you value individuality. Accountability and progressive thinking matters because you see the world for how it is - and care about life in the long run. The investment you put into your endeavors hold great value because of your patience and growth mindset lets you defer gratification instead of seeking out instant and temporary happiness. You know every action has a reaction, so you are thoughtful of everything you put into the world. You own this life, and you don't let hardships defer your plans. Listen to "Becoming an Owner" to see how you can graduate your thinking to Owner instead of Renter. - Listen to New Zen Business episodes every Monday - Available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Overcast & More Find me on Instagram @itsjmaxim - where you can view my Business Mindset & Lifestyle Tips.
