I just expected that the people on my team should automatically "get it", and it frustrated me when they wouldn't do the things they were supposed to be doing. This week I’m announcing a big change-up in the podcast. A majority of the previous episodes and trainings have been applicable to all different types of entrepreneurs. Now, I’m shifting the focus towards solely the Network Marketing profession. There will be TWO brand new episodes filled with original content EVERY week. These episodes will focus specifically on how to help you with your network marketing business. In this episode we’re going to talk about the pain of waking up vs. the pain of staying asleep. Many people think that avoiding pain will benefit them in their business, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. Once you commit to a path and take action, things start to change. And when the Universe knows you’re serious, it starts to move right into action with you. This, however, doesn't mean that there won’t be pain that will move you out of your comfort zone. Regardless of what we do in life, we will face one of two pains: The Pain of Waking Up or The Pain of Staying Asleep. When we stay ASLEEP we choose to not examine our lives. There is a quiet longing for something more for ourselves. However, if we make the decision to WAKE UP, we must face an entirely different type of pain. We must face the pain of the growth process and the truth about what we need to do to become better. It is the pain of feeling exposed. If we can accept and embrace these short term pains as good things, that pain turns into long-term joy. It’s the harder and rarer path to follow because none of us consciously wants to choose pain, but we MUST feel that pain if we are to awaken. Too Much Training…Is It Possible? Absolutely, YES! Consuming too much training is an epidemic in network marketing. And honestly, it’s not hard at all to see how this can happen! Every single day we are inundated with opportunities to consume more training material – the blogs, podcasts, Facebook groups, LIVES, company calls and more! The reality is that people on our teams are spending too many of their precious working hours consuming training material versus the actual productive activities that will result in building a team and generating an income. They are constantly ‘getting ready’ to start their business instead of actually working the business! Listening to training has become an approved way to procrastinate on the hard daily activities that are required to build a successful network marketing business! Our team members are tricking themselves into thinking they are ‘working their business.’ But, in fact, they’re spending countless hours in trainings – and those training hours do not result in the new team members or product sales that they actually need to generate income! For a lot of people, they sit and listen to trainings so they can avoid the harder daily activities – like reach-outs and follow-ups. And so many of them don’t even realize what is happening. They literally feel busy and that they have ‘worked their business.’
Your Responsibility to Your Team: a Time Audit So now it’s time to ask yourself: Are the people on your own team overwhelmed with too much training? On average, how much time each week does it take for them to consume the training that is encouraged by you, their leader? Or by your company? Take a bit of time this week and perform a Time Audit. I go through each of the steps in this podcast, and trust me, you will be shocked after you are done! It is downright eye-opening and shocking how much time can be spent listening to ‘encouraged training.’ As a leader, it is your job to educate team members on the difference between ‘consumption’ and ‘production.’ You must set boundaries, decide which select trainings belong in your training system, enforce the importance of action and productivity, and constantly remind your team members of this. Remember, less is more when it comes to training. In this profession, we earn as we learn. New team members do not need to know everything before they begin building a team. And as a leader, your goal must be to create a culture of action and production….NOT of consumption. | |||

In this episode I discuss with you one of my all-time favorite methods of following-up with unresponsive prospects, "The Takeaway Method". We've all had these types of prospects before, the ones who keep saying, "they're interested" but never make a decision. This also works incredibly well with prospects that have stopped responding to you after initially expressing interest. Anyone looking to become more effective at following-up with, or closing prospects into your business NEEDS to listen to this episode. One of the things that I talk about a lot in this training, is the importance of posture and attitude when it comes to the exposure process. If your prospect feels like you "need them", then they're not going to be as interested in what you're offering them. A lot of times people keep pushing or come across as too "needy", and that's why they struggle. If you learn to use this method of following-up, you're going to start to start to see prospects respond to you in a much more favorable way. In this episode we’re going to talk about how to make the shift from success to significance in your network marketing business. When most people start their network marketing business, their initial goal is freedom: financial freedom, lifestyle freedom and time freedom. But if you never grow past that and evolve into something more, you will probably find that this will not be enough to fulfill you. Freedom is not enough.
Everyone has a WHY: a deep-seated purpose, cause or belief that can be a tremendous source of your passion and inspiration. Even if you don’t know what it is or how to express it in words, you have one.
Happiness comes from WHAT we do, fulfillment comes from WHY we do it. We don’t necessarily find happiness in our jobs every day, but we can still feel fulfilled by our work if it makes us feel part of something bigger than ourselves.
There are two ways to prospect. One, you can aimlessly shoot for everyone, hoping that you’ll find something that fits with someone to get them to say yes.
Two, you can prospect with purpose and intention - being clear in your communication and going straight for people that fit your same vision. When you use the Purpose Drive Prospecting and share your WHY first in a conversation or presentation, you speak directly to your prospects limbic, decision making center of their brain.
We have to stop focusing on money and material things as our end goal in the network marketing business. We need to shift our focus towards aligning our minds with our hearts, so that we may be the change that we seek in the world.

In this episode we discuss the powerful lesson learned from the Chinese bamboo tree. Network marketers especially but in any business, we put so much pressure on days like Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and small business Saturday. Taking advantage of these days is great, but it is not going to make or break your business. It is much more the little things that you do every day that matter most. The Chinese bamboo tree is a perfect example of this principle. Once planted, this remarkable tree takes four years to break the ground. That is four years of consistent watering and fertilizing with no visual results. Only at this point does the tree begin to show growth when it shoots up to 90 feet into the sky within 6 weeks. My message today is that you have the patience and engage in consistent actions. Everyone has a bamboo tree. All you have to do is have faith to keep watering and fertilizing daily. | |||

In this episode we’re going to talk about possibilities and how to make sure your life is going in direction that you desire. Entrepreneurial people, especially in the network marketing industry, can frequently lose direction and find themselves feeling helpless and hopeless.
With the recent arrival of Baby Greyson, I’ve been thinking and reflecting a lot more about the miracle of life. Many people spend their entire lives hoping to hit the lottery; what they don’t realize is that they’ve already won the biggest lottery of their life by just being here.
Yet, as wonderful as this is, many of us still struggle. We struggle to find our way and ourselves, and we feel totally stuck. I look at my newborn son in my arms and my greatest wish for him is that he never fall victim to this mentality. That he never trades his hopes and dreams for compromises or settles for what other people tell him he “should” be doing.
You can literally accomplish anything you want in life. If you’re willing to believe it’s possible and work long and hard for it, you can and WILL make it happen.
It’s never too late to start living the life that you deserve. Most people allow their lives to simply happen to them: they float along, wait, and react. That’s no way to live your life. You were born for a purpose; the potential for fulfilling your purpose is already inside you. You just have to take the time to discover your own unique purpose.
I promise you it won’t be easy, but I also promise you that it WILL be worth it.

In this episode I share with you my story of how my life literally changed overnight with one webinar. It was from a live Periscope I did a few weeks ago that got more positive feedback than anything I've ever done. It is the most vulnerable and open I've ever been in a training message. At the very end I get overcome with emotions and gratitude for everything that has happened. Last month I hosted my first ever paid training. It was a live webinar, which was the first webinar I've ever done in my life. I went into the process really not having any idea what kind of demand I would have for the product. I had spent close to 7 months putting out as much free valuable content as I could and was finally ready to start to monetize my personal brand. The results that I saw when I opened the registration were nothing short of extraordinary. I announced the registration on a live Persicope and by the time I was done 15 minutes later over 70 people had already registered! Within 2 hours I had almost 200 people that had registered from that Periscope. That was over $5,000 I brought in from a single Periscope. All total, I had over 1,100 people pay for the live training which brought in $35,000. On the webinar I offered my group coaching program and a special discount for all the attendees. Within 24 hours I had brought in a total of over $112,000 in income from that single webinar. Overnight my life literally changed from that happening. I share with you some of the struggles I went through last year and how I was able to overcome them. What’s your capacity to HAVE in your life? Whether you realize this or not, you have been preconditioned to only accept a certain amount of income and success in your life. I see it all of the time – each of us has this subconscious threshold for money and success. There is an approximate amount of income you earn that you feel comfortable HAVING. And once we meet that threshold, odd things start happening in our businesses. If your income or results rise above this threshold, you’ll start to struggle with inconsistency, you go into self-sabotage mode, or you find a way to undermine your results. And most of you (just like me), will get stuck at or around a certain rank advancement or level of results in your business because of this same threshold. Because here’s the thing you need to know – the amount of success that you’re going to experience is determined by your MINDSET. The real issue for most of us is that we have LIMITING BELIEFS around the areas of money and success that are holding each of us back from the results we want. We, whether it’s consciously or subconsciously, believe we can only achieve a certain level success or make a certain amount of money. And when we reach that level, our self-limiting beliefs begin to kick in and limit us from moving farther ahead. We can focus on having the ‘right strategies’ or taking massive amounts of action, but none of these will ever make a difference unless we each address our self-limiting beliefs. I want you to become aware of these limiting beliefs you have that are holding you back, and consciously adopt a new set of beliefs that will empower you to raise your CAPACITY TO HAVE in all these areas. In this episode we discuss the 80/20 Rule for working with and developing the leaders on your team. The 80/20 Rule says that regardless of how large your team is, you should never PERSONALLY be spending time with more that 20% of the people. This is a recording from my "signature course" for network marketers, the Breakthrough Academy. One of the biggest mistakes I see leaders make, is they spend all their time working with the wrong people. They spend time working with the people on their team that NEED, but don't DESERVE their time. I like to call these the "squeaky wheels", these are the people that don't ever produce but are constantly demanding your time and all they want to do is complain. What you need to learn to do is identify and focus on the top 20% of your team, and start spending your time there. These are the people on your team that don't NEED, but they do DESERVE your personal time. One of the most important things I ever did for my business, was starting to spend more concentrated time helping this group of people. Team Momentum is the Key to Long-Term Success Have you ever experienced Momentum in your life? That state of energy, excitement, and action? In network marketing, we hear a lot about creating momentum. And I’m often asked if momentum is actually achievable? Or is it a myth that we chase? The truth is momentum DOES exist. And, it can be created by you! There are three types of momentum: personal momentum, company momentum, and team momentum. Personal momentum is when you are personally seeing results in your business, and this is the first step in creating team momentum. Company momentum is when there is a lot of hype about a company or a product. A great example of company momentum would be when you’re in a new company that is seeing a lot of at the right time. The third one is team momentum. Of the three, our key focus needs to be on creating team momentum, as team momentum is the key to your long-term success in this business! If you want freedom in your business as well as long term success, then aim for creating team momentum.
How to Create Team Momentum As a leader, you must learn to create team momentum in your business. There are three requirements that must be in place to achieve the type of team momentum we all crave in our businesses. One is giving your team a clear outcome or goal to work towards. Second is accountability to achieving those goals. Lastly, there should be transparency within the team. Also, you must understand the importance of having simple systems in 5 key areas of your business. To create duplication, and as a result momentum, you must have in place simple systems that each and every team member can follow in these 5 areas: prospecting, opportunity presentation, training new team members, leadership development, and recognizing action and achievement.

The reason why most people struggle in network marketing is because they are taught to focus on the wrong things. Network marketers have this “Success Mindset”, wherein they focus more on personal gain and what they can get from their network marketing business. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with having success goals, but if that’s your final destination, then you will see yourself struggling with prospecting people. Somebody asked me, “What would you consider to be an effective Facebook prospecting post?” I thought about it, and understanding the concept of Legacy Leadership, a better question would be, “What would be the best thing for me to post on Facebook to help me make the biggest impact?” Actually, social media has shifted to quality over quantity. In other words, posting your stuff and inviting people every day to join your business doesn’t work anymore. So, in this episode, I’m going to share with you a business strategy that you can apply to be successful in prospecting. I have this concept called “Learning Out Loud”, and it focuses more on impact over income, quality over quantity. So anytime you hear, read or learn something that educates and empowers you, all you need to do is share that content with others on social media. Your goal is to enhance people’s lives by what you share. And the moment you share something that has value to someone, you immediately become valuable to them. This then creates that connection and relationship, and we all know a successful prospecting is born of that relationship. Stop thinking like a customer, and start thinking like a marketer. Marketers think everything around us is potential content to share with others. So here is my challenge for you: Start to share that quote that inspired your life, the strategies you heard on podcasts or read in a book. Get those old notebooks that you’ve accumulated and find something in there that you can share with someone else. Remember, teaching is the fastest way to success. | |||

Today we talk about fear and the strategies to overcome it. Especially as a new entrepreneurs, there are so many things that we feel resistance towards. I thought that once I became successful I would become fearless. However, nothing could be further from the truth. No matter how successful you are, fear is always lurking in the shadows and doing things you have never done before will be scary. High achievers realize that it is the things in life that we fear most which create the biggest breakthroughs and opportunities. I can remember back in my early days as an entrepreneur doing everything I could to avoid fear. Many think that once they become fearless they will become successful. I recently attended Tony Robbins’s live event, “Date with Destiny.” If you’re not familiar with Tony Robbins, he is one of the premier motivational and training coaches, and I’ve wanted to go to one of his live events for a long time! This specific event, “Date with Destiny,” is 7 days of nonstop life-changing training and workshops. It was the most life transforming experience, and today I want to share with you my biggest takeaways and huge aha moments! One of the things that Tony really digs into is what drives you to do the work you do. Prior to the event I really thought that my top 2 driving forces were significance and certainty. But oh boy, I was wrong! When Tony shared with the attendees The 6 Human Drives/Need, it truly shifted my mindset. The problem with significance being one of your internal drivers is that it causes us to constantly see external validation. We seek attention and also want to feel that we are worthy of that attention. However, the reality is, not everybody is going to like what we do in our life and business. There will always be critics and negative comments. Because you will never please everybody, significance is a game that you can’t ever win. It can never 100% be truly attained. My second driver used to be ‘certainty.” We have this need to always have things figured out. To feel secure and that we can and do have everything under control. But I want to tell you this, certainty does not exist. Nothing in life is certain. We need to step into the realm of faith because uncertainty is the true pathway to opportunity. Uncertainty is where we will experience new things which helps produce new and better results. What I realized is this, true fulfillment in my work is learning to grow and step towards love and contribution. So from here on out, I refuse to work from the need for significance and certainty. Instead, moving forward, I will from a place of love and contribution. I believe life is calling me for more. And I believe life is calling you for more, too! Truth be told, there are a lot of social media marketers struggling in their business. There a a couple problems they have in common. One would be that they do not create enough generic value to attract people. Another would be that they’re just thinking about themselves and what they can get from the business. So, in this episode, John will be sharing the 5 Steps to Building Your Home Business Empire.
Your goal is to set up your online presence, so you need to create one piece of valuable content every day. In order to create a following, you need to post something that creates curiosity. Share something inspirational, or contents that you have read in a book. You can also set your brand. What do you want people to know for?
Once you have those leads, you must connect with them. Build relationships with those people who like, comment or engage with your posts. But the key thing is, don’t be pushy. You want to be human first, marketer second; build that social equity with your contacts.
After building rapport with your leads, you can then make an offer. But again, don’t be pushy. You are there to give them information that will help them with their problems. Share your testimony on how the business or product changed your life. Face your fear of making an offer, just be bold in sharing what’s going on.
Following up is another essential key in building your home business empire. An effective way of doing this is creating a group chat for those people that are open and want to stay in touch. Have a group chat for those that are interested in your business/product because your prospects need to also meet other people within your circle.
The end goal is to be able to teach these steps to the new clients. Again, it’s all about legacy leadership; helping people changed their lives and reaching their full potentials. | |||

This exciting new feature just launched on Facebook and I want to share how you can use this incredibly powerful tool to get more attention on social media. This tool is also an incredibly powerful feature from a prospecting and recruiting standpoint to generate more engagement from your audience. So, you may be asking what is Facebook stories? It is a series of small videos and pictures that you can take throughout your day to essentially tell the story of your day. It allows you to show a more personal side of yourself and bring people into your world and get to know you. Right now, it is not available for everyone but it is being rolled out over the next week. The main difference between Instagram stories and Facebook stories is the filters. With Facebook stories, you can add the filters before you ever take a picture or video. One of the things about stories is it allows you to show your personality and the videos can even be up to 20 seconds long as opposed to the shorter versions on Instagram and Snapchat. Like with anything new, the key to success is consistency. If you can stay consistent and give yourself time to get better and rise to the top you will win on this platform. The best way to create content is to stop thinking and start documenting! Just be yourself and start documenting your life. The beauty of the story functionality is allowing you to become the star of your own reality TV show! This allows you to begin building a personal brand. Through stories you can show anything and everything that is important and that matters to you. Familiarity breeds trust and if you are constantly in front of peoples face you become trustworthy. One example of something you can do is to start documenting your journey as an entrepreneur. Talk about the things you are learning. Share your successes and also your failures. You may be asking how does this help me sell more and recruit more people? This happens because everything you share with someone becomes a point of commonality with that person. The problem most people in network marketing have is they have no idea how to move their products or services. Network marketing is an industry of marketing and promotion, pursued by people who have no idea how to market or promote. If you don't know how to market or promote effectively you're basically screwed. I know this sounds completely counter-intuitive but your product is not your actual product. Here's what I mean. Most network marketers are either selling their opportunity or their products and services to people. What you SHOULD be selling to people is a SYSTEM. A system that if they follow will effectively turn those products and services into money. That's the real reason why people start businesses. To make money. In this episode I’ll be mixing things up a little bit. I am sharing a recording of a training that I created way back when I first started working on Your Virtual Upline called the Four Mental Enemies of Success. Understanding the philosophies of this business is critical for your success. Unless you change your mindset, there is no amount of “how to’s” that are going to offer a real solution for you. Let’s face it: there are SO many obstacles in this business. However, dealing with these obstacles and roadblocks becomes so much easier once you have an awareness of the Four Mental Enemies of Success. Every leader in this industry deals with these enemies every single day, and you’re going to need to learn to include them as an eventual part of your success. The first enemy is rejection. More people are going to tell you no than yes. We have expectations on what we think people are going to do and say, and that’s when we run into problems. The second is deception. People are going to lie INCLUDING your friends and family. People will say they’re interested and ready to commit, but not everyone is ready to take the plunge and change their life. What you need to focus on is moving forward. The third is apathy. This business starts as a numbers game and evolves into a people business where you develop relationships. It’s easy to sit back and come up with excuses for yourself, but you need to delve into what is difficult and push yourself to be the absolute best. The fourth is attrition. Don’t expect to continuously hit grand slams, but focus on stringing together a bunch of singles. Once you push through these enemies, your business will see the results. In this episode I share with you a keynote speech I gave in 2013 at the network marketing company's national convention that I was working with at that time. This was a huge moment for me, given how much I had struggled with public speaking my entire life. To be asked to close out the weekend in front of thousands of people was a pretty big deal. The topic of my speech was "We Have a Better Way". In my talk I discuss how although network marketing isn't perfect - it absolutely is a better vehicle for people who are looking to achieve their goals and dreams. I share with you some advice on how to overcome all the challenges you face along the road to success. I share quite a bit about my personal story which I hope will inspire you to keep moving forward. At the very end I brought out my Mom, Dad, Sister, Brother-in-law and their 4 little kids out with me on the stage. It was without a doubt one of the proudest moments of my life. Just 10 years earlier when I was asked to speak in front of a room for the first time, deathly afraid - I never would have imagined to be in that position. When ‘the Good’ Becomes ‘the Enemy of Great’ What’s up everybody, welcome to Episode 86. Today I’ve got a powerful message especially for those of you who are feeling stuck! It’s called “Beware of the ‘Good Enough’ Plateau.” Here is the thing - some of us, especially when we’ve already experienced a bit of success in our business, tend to stay in the same ol’ place. Over and over again, we do the same things, and they produce the same ol’ results. You need to know, this is a MAJOR reason why most leaders are stuck in their business. Maybe we just can’t seem to get to that next level. Or our income seems to stay the same month-over-month-over month. Externally, we look successful to our family and friends, but inside we know that there’s more to accomplish in your life and business. But we’re so stuck… Unfortunately, we get to a certain ‘success’ point in building our business and then ego starts to creep in. We become unwilling to try new things. We tend to stop venturing into new ways of conducting our business that will grow ourselves personally and our team, too. This is when ‘the good’ becomes ‘the enemy of great.’

In this episode we’re going to be talking about leadership; more specifically, accidental and intentional leadership. Whether you have a team of 1 of 1,000 you have a responsibility to lead. One of the biggest problems I see in network marketing is people falling into the role of an accidental leader. If you lack the necessary leadership skills and ability, your team will never continue to grow.
If you want to see your team grow and be successful, you need to start making the shift from being an “Accidental Leader” to practicing “Intentional Leadership”.
Intentional leadership is a very clearly defined, structured process that facilitates your own growth as a leader, as well as help you identify and develop other leaders on your team. Itʼs a hands on process and at times can feel like a lot of work, but itʼs whatʼs necessary for you to develop other strong leaders on your team.
To start providing them clear direction on what they should be doing, and helping them understand what it really means to be a leader. People need clear direction and support to thrive and grow. And if you donʼt provide that for them, theyʼll go find it somewhere else.
There are three main areas of focus for intentional leadership that we are discussing today: how to lead yourself, identifying the right people to work with on your team, and how to develop these people into independent leaders.
Start leading yourself better, find the right people to work with, and be INTENTIONAL about the way you lead them.
