17 Jul 2021 | BONUS: How we cope with trauma and stress | 00:43:33
At the start of the July 4th weekend, the news broke that Sha'Carri Richardson, a track and field star, would be banned from competing in the 2021 Olympics because of marijuana use. People rushed to post and make comments on social media without knowing the full context of why she was banned. As we all know, false, misleading or incomplete information spreads like wildfire on social media. Like many things that get turned into sound bites and memes there's layers to her story. According to Office of Minority Health at the U.S. Dept of Health & Human Services, National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month is observed each July to bring awareness to the unique struggles that racial and ethnic minority communities face regarding mental illness in the United States. Sha'Carri's story opens up a bigger conversation about mental health and how we help ourselves and our young people cope with their mental and emotional stressors. This is Part 1 of a 2 part bonus episode of a conversation with a licensed therapist and two friends who have utilized therapy to heal from traumatic experiences. Disclaimer: Trigger Warning Some of parts of this conversation may be emotionally triggering. We talk briefly about instances of domestic violence, assault and physical violence and drug use. In the Gift she explains that the worst prison she experienced is not the prison that Nazis put her in but the one she created for herself, the prison within her own mind. She describes the twelve most pervasive imprisoning beliefs she has known—including fear, grief, anger, secrets, stress, guilt, shame, and avoidance—and the tools she has discovered to deal with these universal challenges. Accompanied by stories from Eger’s own life and the lives of her patients, this book captures the vulnerability and common challenges we all face and provides encouragement and advice for breaking out of our personal prisons to find healing and enjoy life. 28 Mar 2019 | 44. The Required Cliff Jump with Brandice Daniel | 01:00:25
Welcome back! The 5th Annual You Are Stronger Than You Think Women's Conference was at the beginning of this month. Here are my 3 big takeaways:
Our Keynote Speaker was Brandice Daniel, the founder of Harlem's Fashion Row. She shared her journey of growing her company for the last 11 years. Brandice's definition of a Cliff Jump? "A cliff jump is taking an action towards your goal despite your qualifications, the fear you feel about how things will turn out, what people will say, your lack of confidence or the doubt you might have about your own worthiness." ************ What was your takeaway from this message? Share your thoughts with us on Instagram @StrongHerMe . Take Action: (1) Join the S.T.R.O.N.G. Womanhood Growth Circle, a sisterhood of accountability for women ready to act courageously in their calling. Full details at StrongHerMeCoaching.com. (2) For access to access to the remainder of Brandice's talk on what you do after the cliff jump + the other sessions from the event visit Patreon.com/StrongHerMe and become a tribe member.
(3) Through the StrongHerMe Facebook group I learned that several women in the community are writing books. For the month of April I'm talking to different women making their living within the publishing industry. I plan to interview an editor, a writing coach and a published author. I want the interview to reflect your burning questions. What is stopping you from starting or finishing your book? Where are you stuck in your book writing? What do you want to know about self publishing versus traditional publishing? Share your questions by tagging us on instagram @StrongHerme or emailing me at Kendra@strongher.me and you may hear your question on one of the episodes in April. ************ Subscribe to the StrongHer Podcast and published episodes will come right to the podcast app on your phone and/or join our email list for a daily email reminder when a new episode is ready. 01 Jul 2020 | 75. Reclaim Your Voice through Prayer with Chrystal Evans Hurst | 00:49:26
Chrystal Evans Hurst is one of my favorite podcaster-speaker-authors. She is anointed to encourage and equip others to live God's best for their lives... all while engaging and being present in the small important moments that matter in the everyday. Chrystal Hurst is here to talk about how a 28 day commitment can help us make prayer a habit in our daily lives. In this episode she recommends that in the midst of many voices telling us how to respond to the world’s problems, we seek God in prayer for wisdom and clarity for how we can be most effective. We end the episode with her answering several listener questions about prayer. This episode is for you if you’ve ever wondered…

25 Aug 2021 | 94. The Tools Every Leader Needs in Their Toolkit: Conflict Resolution | 00:19:32
Leadership and building a ministry or business requires resourcefulness. As leaders, we need a lot less than we think, when we use our creativity. This month’s them came while writing the script for a previous episode. I started thinking about how I use some form of writing everyday in my business and the other skills I’ve had to acquire to be an entrepreneurial leader. This week I want to talk about the tool of conflict resolution. Leadership is influence. 11 Nov 2019 | 62. Boundaries and A Woman's Body with Dr. Joia Creer-Perry | 01:05:12
I already had an episode planned where I talked to my cousin, an OBGYN about women’s health. I don’t normally talk about pop culture on my podcast but this week I’m making an exception. Why? Because of 2 news stories this month:
I tend to keep my opinions about controversial things limited to what I share with people who personally know me because for the most part, opinions are opinions and everyone has one. In this case, I think both situations are about control. Control in any relationship, regardless of the circumstance can lead us to dangerous places. Respect isn’t found in control. Control comes from a place of fear. In the second half of the show I share a conversation that I had with my cousin, Founder and President of the National Birth Equity Collaborative, Dr. Joia Creer Perry. She's a thought leader around racism as a root cause of health inequities, Speaker, Trainer, Advocate, Policy Expert, and fighter for justice. She's the recipient of the Congressional Black Caucus Healthcare Hero’s award and the Maternal Health Task Force at Harvard University Global Visionary Award for Commitment to Advancing Women’s Health. She is married to Dr. Andre Perry and has three children: Jade, Carlos, and Robeson Her love is her family; health equity is her passion; maternal and child health are her callings. She is a wealth information around the history of maternal health in the US and advocacy of black infant and maternal health. We discuss how racism has permeated the quality of care black women receive in this country and the importance of all women, but especially black women, being our own mental and physical health advocates. *********************** Show Notes: National Birth Equity Collaborative "I come from people who didn't we were broken and needing to be fixed." - Dr. Joia Creer Perry "America was birthed by black women midwives until the 1920s or so." - Dr. Joia Creer Perry "Your doctor doesn't know your body better than you. 25 Feb 2021 | 83. What is your dream opportunity? | 00:12:41
Steps to move past comparison: Return to the vision. You need a visual reminder. Pray for discernment about what is a longing for something God wants for me and what is me coveting what was meant for someone else. Seek wise counsel from (friends, family, mentors, coaches) those who know what you’re feeling, they’ve navigated this road before and they can help you with your perspective. The answers to our desires often take on a different form than we expected. Work your plan. Get busy with the work God is calling you to. Look for those people who run beside you to see it fulfilled.
*** March is Women’s History Month. I want to invite you to join me for the #WorkYourPlan Book Club. For the month of March we are reading Jo Saxton’s book, Ready to Rise. Ready to Rise tackles the real-life issues women face–workplace harassment, sexism, low self-esteem, financial woes, power battles, and old wounds–while providing meaningful wisdom from Jo’s own journey to leadership. 23 Nov 2020 | Grief and Loss: Questions of the Heart with LaSandra Hutchinson | 00:55:56
What does it mean for God to be good? This common question is at the heart of what many of us will wrestle with when we experience some form of loss in our lifetime. Our guest, LaSandra Hutchinson is going to help us uncover how grief and loss has impacted our relationship with God. LaSandra is a speaker, writer, content creator and advocate for the rights and well-being of women and girls. She began her work in the non-profit sector as a teenager, spearheading a youth-led initiative in which she designed and implemented violence prevention programming to empower young women in Chicago. She has continued that work as a domestic violence advocate and currently builds awareness of the issue by providing domestic violence training and strengthening community partnerships through her with South Suburban Family Shelter, an organization that provides comprehensive domestic violence services in Illinois. After 20 years of friendship and 13 years of marriage, LaSandra experienced the sudden loss of her husband in October 2017. At the time, her children were 11, 10, 8, and 6 years old. Eager to learn all she could about grief and to rebuild a powerful life for her and her children, LaSandra began researching grief and sharing her new understanding, her faith, and her grief journey on YouTube, through public speaking, and through writing. She wanted to give a transparent look into grief in a way that resonated with others and that brought hope. Through these steps, Grace & Grief was born. Grace and Grief is an initiative that provides support, community, and inspiration to help others grow through grief and live boldly after loss. In this episode we discuss…
This is part 1 of a 2 part conversation. In part 2 LaSandra answers listeners' questions. Show Notes Keep up with LaSandra: Words to Remember… "Your relationship with God matters whether you're in a crisis or not. Entrepreunership is one of my absolute favorite topics. For the month of May we are sitting down with 4 enterprising women to learn from their entrepreneurial journey. It's really important for me to showcase everyday women who remind us of what's possible with growth, some grit and a whole lot of God's grace. These 4 women each have a unique spin on entrepreneurship. Some of them work their businesses on the side while working for someone else. Others are full time entrepreneurs or have been in the past. Either way, they have tapped into their unique giftings and found work they love and are being paid for. Your going to love their stories! Our first guest for this series is Debi Adams. I met Debi in my previous job. She is a very gifted designer and artists. You can see 3 examples of her work over on the StrongerThanYouThink.co blog. She even has her own product line! Debi has been involved in the art industry for more than 35 years and feels blessed to make a living from her passions. Her experiences include floral arranging, sewing, home and party decor, calligraphy, watercolor, set stylizing, photography as well as paper crafting. She has been featured in Somerset Studios, Apronology, Where Women Create, Where Women Cook and a myriad of other magazines and books. A teacher by degree but an artist at heart, Debi is a California native but relocated to Arizona just two years ago. She loves spending time with her four grown daughters and “junking” at on Spellbinders Paper Arts website: Debi's Collection Show Notes:

12 Jan 2018 | Ep 22 Meet the Mentor Series: Erica Moore | 00:27:45
One of my favorite things to do leading up to the 2018 You Are Stronger Than You Think Women's event is to host the Meet the Mentor series. 11 Jun 2020 | 72. Reclaiming Your Voice After Trauma with Sharli Berry | 01:03:03
For the month of June, in response to our collective grief and outrage over racist acts continuing in our country, on my platforms I'm centering our conversations around reclaiming our voice. This week’s #WorkYourPlan conversation with Sharli Berry, a licensed therapist and the owner of Destiny's Door Counseling, about reclaiming your voice after trauma is critical to this conversation. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's quote "protest is the language of the unheard" is quoted frequently right now. We're going to dig into what that means from a mental health perspective. Specifically, we will be talking about how we reclaim our voice after different forms of trauma - childhood abuse and neglect, domestic violence, as well as, the trauma of systemic racism. In this episode we discuss...

18 Aug 2021 | 93. The Tools Every Leader Needs in Their Toolkit: Active Listening | 00:19:30
This week I want to talk about the tool of active listening. Active listening goes hand in hand with coaching and requires a level of self discipline. // Show Notes Center for Creative Leadership: "Using Active Listening to Coach Others" https://www.ccl.org/articles/leading-effectively-articles/coaching-others-use-active-listening-skills/ ICF (International Coaching Federation) Core Competency: Active Listening Developing the Leader Within You by John Maxwell Developing the Leader Around You by John Maxwell // Join us for our Fall Activation Circle. // The STRONG Womanhood Growth Journal: Activate the Courage to Live Out Your Calling is a self directed guide for women who want to be active participants in their personal transformation and are looking for a process to mentor them through it. 16 Mar 2017 | Ep 7 Modern Titus 2 Woman: Alexandra Kuykendall | 00:40:41
The Theme for March's Podcasts is The Modern Titus 2 Woman. Titus 2 encourages "older" women to "urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God." In week 2 of this series we chat with Alexandra Kuykendall. Alex is a wife, a mom, and an author. She speaks to women around the world about issues of parenting, faith and identity. The conversation in this episode centers on lessons Alex has learned about what to look for in a mentor and how to effectively mentor others. We discuss the process she uses to determine what to let go of and what to hold on to and why letting go of good things can be such a big relief. She shares examples from her own life of what mentoring "looks like" and reassures us that it doesn't need to be formal and complicated to be impactful. 04 Jun 2020 | 71. Reclaiming Your Voice for Advocacy with Khalilah Elliott | 01:24:30
Courage always comes with a cost. For the month of June we’re exploring what courage costs all of us and how courage helps us reclaim our voice for our God-given assignment. One of the things I pray is reclaimed from our anger and outrage around history continuing to repeat itself is our heart for advocacy. I was joined by my sister, Khalilah Elliott, a multicultural marketing and communications expert, to talk about how we reclaim our voice for advocacy. Advocacy comes in many forms and that's what Khalilah and I will be talking about. In this episode we discuss... No more being silent about the things that matter most to us because we fear what others think. *** Show Notes: The Oaks Collective on Facebook "If people are ready to leave you, because you find your voice and you're ready to speak up for yourself, let them go!" - Khalilah Elliott "If you're an advocate, your role, even when it is uncomfortable is to acknowledge when something is problematic for the people you claim you advocate for. 28 Mar 2018 | Ep 29 - 2018 STRONGHER EVENT SESSION #4: A Seat at the Table | 00:31:06
Over the course of the next 8 weeks I'll be sharing clips from the sessions at the 2018 You Are Stronger Than You Think Women's Event. "You Are Stronger Than You THink" is a lifestyle and leadership event for go-getter women and teen girls. Our yearly event is practical and inspirational. It's a leadership event with the soul of a Christian women's conference. We laugh. We cry, but we also provide incredible leadership advice for women and girls. (photo credit: Focus First Photography) This week's episode is a clip from our lunch session. During lunch, Khalilah Elliott, one of our panelists and our facilitator lead our attendees through an interactive exercise, A Seat at the Table, that illuminates how women, in big and small ways, stop using our influence because of fear or because we're waiting for permission. Khalilah Elliott is the originator of this interactive experience. She is also the Executive Producer and Chief Creative Officer for Kay’s Food for Thought (@kaysfoodforthought) – a lifestyle brand that promotes health and wellness for the mind, body and soul. An engaging public speaker and brand strategist she also recently joined Broadway’s Disney Theatrical Productions as Marketing Director after five years in the same role at the world-famous Apollo Theater in New York City.
This entire series is going to benefit you if...

10 Sep 2019 | 57. A Beautifully Organized Home with Nikki Boyd | 00:59:23
Our guest for episode 57 of the podcast is Nikki Boyd. Nikki Boyd is a professional organizer and social media influencer who shares tips on home organization, decor, and DIY projects. She’s also the author of Beautifully Organized: A Guide To Function And Style In Your Home. Traveling the world as a military spouse gave her the opportunity to gain a multitude of knowledge in how to run an efficient home filled with love and memories. Nikki’s philosophy is that your home should not only function for you and your family but should be your beautiful haven. She’s shared her tips in media outlets like Martha Stewart Living, First for Women Magazine, USA, Today Magazine, Ebony Magazine, The Washington Post, and CNN. I highly recommend Nikki's book. Her beautiful home is featured throughout the book and I was surprised to learn she doesn’t have a background in interior design. She has some really great insight into how to make an organized home a lifestyle and not an event. She inspired me so much I spent the first half of my labor day organizing my kitchen. I’ve been taking baby steps to implement her recommendations and Morgan’s recommendations from last week’s episode. In this episode, we discuss how Nikki’s military upbringing influenced her love of home, she answers common questions around how to minimize the overwhelm we feel. 05 May 2021 | 85. Like Mother, Like Daughter | 00:54:12
A candid conversation about how we are mothered shapes how we mother with the founder of StrongHer.me, Kendra Tillman and her mother, Sandra Smith. In this episode,
*** Have you ever dropped the ball? I want to invite you to join me for the #WorkYourPlan Book Club. For May I wanted a book that speaks to the pressure moms and women, in general, feel to do it all. So, we are reading Tiffany Dufu’s book, Drop the Ball: Achieving More by Doing Less, as our May book selection. I often joke that this book should be in the marriage and family section of the book store, rather than the business section. In Drop the Ball, Tiffany shows women how to cultivate the single skill they really need in order to thrive: the ability to let go. She recounts how she learned to reevaluate expectations, shrink her to-do list, and meaningfully engage the assistance of others - freeing the space she needed to flourish at work and to develop deeper, more meaningful relationships at home. Did you know? Even though women are half the workforce, they still represent only 18 percent of the highest level leaders. The reasons are obvious: Just as women reach middle management, they are also starting families. Mounting responsibilities at work and home leave them with no bandwidth to do what will most lead to their success. Drop the Ball urges women to embrace imperfection and to expect less of themselves and more from others - only then can they focus on what they truly care about, devote the necessary energy to achieving their real goals, and create the type of rich, rewarding life we all desire. I'm sure this topic is going to spark some lively discussions. Don't miss it! 07 Jul 2021 | 87. Authenticity & The Power of Words | 00:27:33
This month we're discussing the power of words. My love and passion for words is one of the things that makes me, me. Inspiring, empowering, impactful words are on the walls in my home, on my bookshelves, in my phone and on my vision boards. I am very careful with my words, because words shape us! Our thoughts, hopes, dreams and goals have been influenced by the words used to describe us and how we have been talked to. Words can bring life or death. So, for the next few episodes, I’ll be sharing some of my favorite sources of wisdom aka books, songs, podcasts, etc 🙂 My hope is that these sources of wisdom will benefit you too. // Show Notes: The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene' Brown July #WorkYourPlan Book Club Selection: "The Gift: 12 Lessons to Save Your Life" by Edith Eger Edith Eger is a clinical psychologist and a Holocaust survivor. 17 Sep 2020 | 79. Demystifying Purpose with Nicole Salmon | 01:10:24
For the month of September where we will be talking about demystifying purpose. My conversation with Nicole Salmon centers around defining purpose and gaining clarity about your purpose. When we’re unclear on our calling, we feel stuck and left behind. In today’s conversation, my guest Nicole Salmon helps us demystify “purpose” by revealing the one mindset shift we must make to be fruitful in every season of life. Tune in throughout September as we continue this monthly series on clarifying our purpose. Purpose coach Nicole Salmon has worked with some pretty inspiring and powerful women over the years. You know the type. Fierce, has it all together and going places? Well at least to the public she is. But in her private life she is also unraveling and not clear about her next move. Why do they end up at her door? Because birds of a feather flock together. If the quest for finding your purpose has left you feeling stuck or left behind, you’re in the right place. In today’s episode, Nicole invites us to reject the idea that purpose is a destination, so that we can begin living from purpose, adapting it as our lifestyle. In this episode we discuss…

After 20 years of friendship and 13 years of marriage, LaSandra Hutchinson experienced the sudden loss of her husband in October 2017. This is part 2 of a 2 part conversation. In part 2 LaSandra answers listeners' questions. Some questions addressed in this episode:

Over the course of the next 8 weeks I'll be sharing clips from the sessions at the 2018 You Are Stronger Than You Think Women's Event. "You Are Stronger Than You THink" is a lifestyle and leadership event for go-getter women and teen girls. Our yearly event is practical and inspirational. It's a leadership event with the soul of a Christian women's conference. We laugh. We cry, but we also provide incredible leadership advice for women and girls.
In this week's episode you will listen in on a dynamic session that speaks to women in all areas of leadership: Our signature #WorkYourPlan Purpose Panel The You Are Stronger Than You Think Women's Event is part Christian women's conference, part business conference. Our #WorkYourPlan Purpose Panel was a perfect illustration of this. Our panelists were Khalilah Elliott of Disney Theatrical Group, Pamela Slim of Ke' Small Business Learning Lab, Evelyn Gaskin of Leadership Excellence Development Academy and Angela Sticca Snyder of Taxanista. The discussion was moderated by Isha Cogborn of Epiphany Institute. The panel discussion was worth the price of admission. I love the combination of practical and spiritual wisdom shared by all our panelists. In this session we dive into...

13 May 2021 | 86. Ready to Rise with Jo Saxton | 00:55:39
In episode 86 of the podcast, I share the recording of my conversation with the author of our March #WorkYourPlan book club selection, Jo Saxton. Jo Saxton is an author, speaker, podcast host, and leadership coach. She has dedicated her career to growing leadership teams around the world and empowering women to find their purpose in their personal lives and in leadership. Born in London to parents who immigrated from Nigeria, Jo credits her family’s unrelenting work ethic and the grace of God for the bold, tenacious approach she takes to sharing her wisdom on identity, influence, and living an authentic life. She is characterized by her effervescent honesty and warm approachability, leaving audiences with practical next steps in areas that are usually a bit ambiguous. In addition to work as an author, Jo has also spearheaded an initiative aimed to help women grow their leadership skills. Jo lives in Minneapolis with her husband, Chris, and their two daughters. Jo's book, Ready to Rise, is one of the few I've seen that addresses the intersection of your identity as a leader, a Black woman and a Christian and provides a Biblical context for talking about leadership and calling. **** Show Notes Keep up with Jo: Watch the video of our conversation on Facebook *** Have you ever dropped the ball? 23 May 2017 | Ep 15: Women Who Write with Crystal Stine Part 2 | 00:35:42
These week's featured entrepreneur is Crystal Stine. Crystal makes a living as a writer. She encourages women to pursue holy hustle - a work hard, rest well lifestyle that chases faith instead of fame. Mama to a 5-year-old (and married to her high school sweetheart), Crystal is the author of “Creative Basics: 30 Days to Awesome Social Media Art,” creator of the popular “Clarity Coaching” Course, editor of "Craving Connection" and host of the annual Write 31 Days challenge. This week's episode is part 2 of a two part conversation I had with Crystal about developing your writing passion right where you are. We get specific about the practice of writing, practical suggestions for working your writing muscle and Crystal shares a little of her journey to her first traditionally published book.

03 Apr 2019 | 45. Demystifying Writing A Book Series (Pt 1) | 01:12:49
Through the StrongHerMe Facebook group I learned that several women in the community are writing books. For the month of April I'm interviewing women who are making their living within the publishing industry. I originally only planned on interviewing 3 women, but discovered a 4th. They all share a unique perspective. I thought it would be fun to ask a few friends who've written & published books to share their wisdom. Several of them have and I’ll be sharing clips from them on podcast and social media. You will be equipped and encouraged this month. Get your notepads ready. No more excuses! It’s time to start pushing your words out into the world. For this week's podcast episode, I talk with Titania Paige. She is a wife and mom of a newborn. She founded her first blog and ministry LifeBeforeEternity.com in August 2016. There, she spurs the modern woman onto enduring faith as she awaits her eternal crown. (James 1:12). On her personal site, TitaniaPaige.com, she helps women embrace passion and purity, so they can live out their God-given purpose. Join her Tuesdays for the latest episode of “The Purpose in Purity Podcast.” Titania is Liberty University graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Christian Counseling, as well as a First 5 app writer. Download the app, created by Proverbs 31 Ministries, to study God’s word with her during your quiet time. In this episode we talk about remaining flexible in your calling, the multiple benefits of blogging, how a website freebie became the best product she’s ever made and how she acquired a book agent and her traditional publishing journey. What was your takeaway from this message? 26 Feb 2019 | 43. The Vision is Bigger Than Your Fear | 01:04:44
Today’s episode is apart of the Meet the Mentor series, your introduction to our event’s speaker-mentors. If you caught episode 42 of the podcast, you know I had planned on sharing an episode with Stephanie Clerge our strengths expert, but I didn’t like my energy in the podcast and we don’t have time to re-record it. Stephanie is brilliant and will be co-facilitating 2 very interactive sessions with me at the conference. You don’t want to miss it! Instead I’m going to end the series a little differently. I was interviewed by Keiona of New GeeChee for her podcast. She’s allowing me to repost that interview here on the podcast. It’s probably the best interview I’ve ever done. Keiona or KeKe is a great interviewer. This interview will give you a great deal of insight into who I am, why I started this event and what you can expect. If you could use some laughter and encouragement in the form a conversation among friends from two different generations, this is the podcast episode for you. I share how the lessons learned in my 20s, 30s and now 40s has shaped me and uncovered the gifts that led me into my purpose! I share most of the interview, but if you want to hear the interview in its entirety head over to @NewGeeChee Podcast on Apple and Spotify.

22 Jul 2021 | BONUS: How we cope with trauma and stress Pt 2 | 00:42:07
This is Part 2 of a 2 part bonus episode of a conversation with a licensed therapist and two friends who have utilized therapy to heal from traumatic experiences. If you missed Part 1, we encourage you to go back and listen before listening to this episode. // Show Notes: Sharli Berry, MS, LPC, founder of Destiny's Door Counseling Center LaToya Thompson is @LaToyaWrites on IG LaToya Jenkins is @latoyafjenkins on IG Learn more about Meet the Black Therapists in AZ event on July 24, 2021 from 11a-2pm: Facebook.com/events/136106285258151/ Full Details about the Meet the Black Therapists Event // July #WorkYourPlan Book Club Selection: "The Gift: 12 Lessons to Save Your Life" by Edith Eger Edith Eger is a clinical psychologist and a Holocaust survivor. She describes the twelve most pervasive imprisoning beliefs she has known—including fear, grief, anger, secrets, stress, guilt, shame, and avoidance—and the tools she has discovered to deal with these universal challenges. 14 Feb 2019 | 42. Meet the Mentor Series Spring 2019: Evelyn Gaskin | 00:26:35
As we countdown to the 5th Annual You Are Stronger Than You Think Women’s Conference, we’re kicking off our Meet the Mentor series. The Meet the Mentor series is your introduction to our event’s speaker-mentors. This month I’ll be releasing 2 episodes a week, on Tues & Thurs. 6 different interviews to give you insight into what you can expect if you join us for the conference. Today’s episode guest is Min Evelyn Gaskin. Min Evelyn is our closing keynote. Min Evelyn is one of the wisest women I know. Not only is she accomplished... she simplifies leadership development by focusing on four critical areas – Servant Leadership, Courageous Leadership, Ethical Leadership and Effective Leadership. She’s a certified teacher, speaker, coach, published author and college instructor, Evelyn possesses over 30 years of leadership experience, including serving as a division vice president at one of the nation’s largest for-profit universities. She’s also a mom of 3. She’s going to help us balance our work and worship. The big question she’s helping us answer is how do we cultivate our relationship with God while leading others. Instead of an interview, I share a clip of a sermon she preached in January 2019 on “Hungry for God” Her message was Part 5 in a series that was preached by our Pastor and church staff to help us set the year with God’s will as our priority. 23 Oct 2019 | 61. The Therapy of Fitness and Movement with Alisa Keeton | 00:59:57
October is Breast Cancer, Domestic Violence and Child & Infant Loss Awareness Month. I’ve been personally affected by all of these. I've experienced infant loss through a miscarriage. I've had multiple close family members die of cancer and women I know and love have been subjected to verbal, physical and emotional abuse. So, for October we are addressing themes related to Women's Mental & Physical Health. I want to equip and empower you with mentorship in these crucial areas of your life. In episode 60 I address our spiritual health. In that episode I share the healing process I went through as a result of a defining moment in my life. Alisa Keeton, the founder and CEO of Revelation Wellness and the author of The Wellness Revelation is our guest mentor for episode 61 of the podcast. Alisa is a 25+ year fitness professional, she believes that the Gospel is a wholistic message of heart, mind, soul, and strength and each body holds a story that must be told. It is then that healing, health, and wholeness can truly begin. In this episode we discuss grief and the mind-body connection, our thirst for significance, what to do when we feel stuck and how breathing and meditating help us relieve stress in our daily lives. I have a fun new project I’m hosting starting the first week of November I hope you will join. The Focus.me Project will help go-getter women jumpstart the process of breaking habits that are keeping us busy, stressed out and not effectively reaching our goals. It’s a 5 day challenge with bite-size tasks to complete. 12 May 2017 | Ep 14: Women Who Write with Crystal Stine Part 1 | 00:32:54
This week's episode is part 1 of a two part conversation I had with Crystal about developing your writing passion right where you are. We talk about Crystal's journey to writing as a career. She pulls back the curtain on what her writing life looks like *spoiler alert* it's not glamorous. We also discuss how blogging has evolved to allow women to make a living from home. Come back next week for Part 2. We get specific about the practice of writing and Crystal shares a little of her journey to her first traditionally published book.

As we countdown to the 5th Annual YASTYT women’s conference, we’re kicking off our Meet the Mentor series. The Meet the Mentor series is your introduction to our event’s speaker-mentors. This month I’ll be releasing 2 episodes a week, on Tues & Thurs. 6 different interviews to give you insight into what you can expect if you join us for the conference. Today’s episode is a real treat because I get to introduce you to a dear friend and one of our brilliant speaker-mentors. Malissa Davis is an expert Image Consultant, Fashion Stylist, and CEO of Best You Ever (B.Y.E.) she has found a way to seamlessly blend fashion, self-image, and personal branding. Before she moved away from Phoenix to Alabama to serve beside her husband, Pastor Damon Davis, in ministry she was my go-to stylist. Malissa is further along than I am on this parenting journey. I couldn’t think of 2 better people than she and her daughter Taylor to champion our teen girls in uncovering their true brilliance. I intentionally kept this interview short and sweet. Malissa answers a few questions about the importance of us providing this safe space for our girls. If you’re attending with a teen girl, I believe you’ll quickly hear that your girl will be in great hands with this dynamic duo. *** What was your takeaway from this episode? 20 Aug 2019 | 51. Finding Your Voice As A Woman | 00:35:44
Finding my voice has been about embracing the way I’m wired instead of thinking there was something wrong with me because of my southern accent, because of my acne prone skin, because I would prefer deep conversations to small talk, because I will attempt to read 3 books at once or because I would choose working out with you over chatting over coffee. I have found my voice in little and small ways over the years. We’re going to use the word VOICE as our acronym for finding our voice: V: List Your Values - Are they reflected in how you live your life? O: Outcomes - How do you solve problems? I: Inventory your strengths C: Creativity - How do you express yourself? E: Emotional intelligence Why does finding your voice matter? Through the StrongHerMe Facebook group I learned that several women in the community are writing books. For the month of April I'm interviewing women who are making their living within the publishing industry. Get your notepads ready. No more excuses! It’s time to start pushing your words out into the world. Today’s guest is Chilesa Ready is a wife and mom of 3. She is a certified Biblical counselor, a writing coach and an author of two books: Living the Limitless Life and The Five Week Marriage Tune Up Devotional. She served with her husband of 19 years Marcus, as Marriage Ministry Director before relocating to Phoenix. In this episode we talk about the discipline of writing a book. We discuss the importance of authenticity as an author, the difference between an editor and a writing coach and the role of the editor in producing a well written book. “Writing a book is a marathon not a sprint.” "The book you write is only a book that you can write." 30 Sep 2019 | 59. Community & Calling with Sarah Harmayer of Neighbor's Table | 01:01:49
Our guest for episode 59 of the podcast is Sarah Harmeyer. Sarah is the Chief people gatherer at Neighbor's Table where her dad has the role of creating hand crafted tables and Sarah shows us how to love people around the table. As you will hear, she is a woman on a "love mission". In this episode you will hear how Sarah's vision for Neighbor’s Table started to unfold as you asked God about her purpose. 03 Mar 2017 | Ep 5: Who You Are At Home | 00:37:28
In this week's episode of the StrongHer Podcast, we're sharing the final session from the 2017 You Are Stronger Than You Think Women's Event hosted by Kendra Tillman (@KendraTillman). Bible teacher and author Ginger Ciminello reminds us that none of what we do amounts to anything if we have lost our desire to know God, intimately, personally, in the midst of our busy lives. Each of us has a soul. You are the only one charged with the care of your own soul. Hearing the Lord's instruction is not a task that can be delegated to someone else. In this episode, Ginger explains that less than 20% of Christians read the Bible outside of church. She reveals the #1 reason people don't read their Bible and This rich session reminded us to be hungry for God's holy Word and to know God for ourselves. Her message was honest, convicting and made a difference in the lives of our attendees. We believe it will do the same for you! --- New podcasts episodes available on Thursdays.

23 Feb 2022 | 108. We Find What We Look For with Alexandra Kuykendall | 00:49:00
I hope you will be challenged and inspired by this week's episode of the podcast. I am talking with my friend and fellow "world changer for good", Alexandra Kuykendall. Alex speaks on issues of how faith impacts everyday life. She encourages us to listen well and communicate with generosity and kindness. She has authored four books: Loving My Actual Life, Loving My Actual Christmas, The Artist’s Daughter: A Memoir, Loving My Actual Neighbor and her newest, "Seeking Out Goodness: Finding the True and Beautiful All around You". Philippians 4:8 tells us where to center our thought life. It is the roadmap for seeking out goodness. How does considering what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable in someone else show us more of God’s goodness? After the last 2 years we've had, is it possible for us to still see the good in others? In this episode Alex, ultimately, reminds us that we find what we're looking for and the more we seek out goodness and the more we look for the positive, the easier it will be for our brains to identify what is good. When we are encourage our listeners to look for the good. This is not a dismissal of accountability. It's a challenge to not conform to the attitudes and behaviors of the culture around us, but to make room for the Holy Spirit to transform our thinking through the truth of scripture. Today’s episode guest is Pastor Erica Moore. Pastor Erica is a wife and mother of 4, an author, Co-Pastor and First Lady of my home church & the location of the 2019 conference, Faith Christian Center! In 2008, she founded the Woman2Woman Women’s ministry featuring the life changing Woman2Woman online book club. She also hosts regular live and online events designed to assist women in developing godly self perception and reach their full potential. Pastor Erica will be apart of the Happiness Habits panel discussion at the 2019 conference. She’ll be talking about ways we can build positive emotion in our life. Instead of an interview I’ve included a clip of a sermon she preached on Mother’s Day 2018 on “Enjoying Your Life”. Her humanity shines through as she vulnerably shares how her hope was deferred during a discouraging season and how God strengthened her and helped her rise out of grief and disappointment with joy. 02 May 2017 | Ep 11: Helping Your Child Navigate Important Money Decisions | 00:43:56
April was Financial Awareness month. Our theme for our April podcast episodes was MONEY! The 2 financial coaches joining us for April's discussions, Ericka Young and Shehara Smallwood. ![]() Ericka Young of Tailor-made Budgets is a Dave Ramsey certified budget coach who has helped over 200 families become better money managers. Ericka and her husband Chris know the financial struggles of trying to live the "American dream". After they paid off nearly $100,000 of debt themselves they vowed never to return to that place again and to help other families "change their family tree." In episode 9 we talked about your money past and the importance of forgiving your family, your spouse and possibly even yourself for past mistakes with money. In episode 10 we talk in detail about how to move from paycheck to paycheck living and how to get on the same page with your spouse about money. Learning to manage money is a muscle that must be developed. Our kids need time to practice this skill in the home. In this episode Ericka explains how to begin preparing your child from an early age into early adulthood. Also, did you know where your child chooses to go to college and how they pay for it could impact their financial future greater than any other financial decision they make? Our job is not done when our kids graduate high school. We spend most of this episode discussing the importance of our involvement in our child's college planning, so college doesn't become a long term financial burden to our children or to us. We wrap up the episode discussing the importance of setting boundaries around your finances with adult children. 28 Feb 2022 | 109. All Good Things End: My Finale Episode | 00:17:08
To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven. (Eccl 3:1 NKJV) If you’ve been listening for a while, you may have noticed some consistency back towards the end of last year and then a drop off. I had a team of 2 amazing women who helped me produce this podcast and to show up consistently on social media. In November after attending an influencer event in Nashville, I started some soul searching around this podcast. I made the decision to not invest financially in having a team to edit and produce the podcast and help me with my social media presence on IG @strongherme. I had no idea when I made that decision, that a few months later, I would be making another bigger decision about the podcast. I’ve cried a few tears thinking about all I plan to share with you today. My first episode of this podcast went live Feb 2017. Back then it was name the StrongHer podcast. If you go back and listen to that first episode, it’s a clip of my message from the 2017 You Are Stronger Than You Think Women’s Event. Our theme that year was Who Am I? In that episode I share the origins of the 'You Are Stronger Than You Think' message, stories from my own life of how God uncovers purpose and calling. The previous year’s event included a Friday night event and 5K race. It came with some harsh criticism from an attendee. - it was my greatest fear and my wakeup call: I needed to be the leader my vision deserved. I needed to ask for help; I needed to push beyond the fear of criticism to be a more brave and authentic leader.
After some deep reflection, prayer and talks with my husband and friends, I’m discerning it’s time to bring this podcast to a close. My initial purpose for starting this podcast was to have a platform to share women’s stories and their expertise, as I affirmed women that there is grace to be successful as keepers of the home and as professional women. This journey has produced more in my life than I could have known to ask for and the growth I’ve experienced in 4 years, in part, due to the discipline of publishing this podcast, is something that I not only wouldn’t trade, but I also highly recommend this or some other creative pursuit that requires you to stretch, as your own personal development tool. Here are just 3 of the ways I’ve grown, as a direct result of this pursuit: I’ve learned authenticity through this podcast. It has required me to process my own thoughts about topics. I’ve learned new skills, capabilities (listening, interviewing, technical skills around podcasting). I’ve learned new things about myself.
I’ve reclaimed my voice through this podcast. When I say “voice”, sometimes I’m referring to your actual voice; other times I’m referring to your influence, your mission, your values, your perspective, your story. Your voice is one of the parts of you that identifies you in this world.
I’ve learned how to tend to my own heart while staying faithful to a vision in my heart/soul, without constant validation of its impact. Talk about Hebrews 3,4. Hebrews 3: 12 Make sure that your own hearts are not evil and unbelieving, turning you away from the living God. 13 You must warn each other every day, while it is still “today,” so that none of you will be deceived by sin and hardened against God. 14 For if we are faithful to the end, trusting God just as firmly as when we first believed, we will share in all that belongs to Christ. Hebrews 4: 6 So God’s rest is there for people to enter, but those who first heard this good news failed to enter because they disobeyed God. 10 For all who have entered into God’s rest have rested from their labors, just as God did after creating the world. 11 So let us do our best to enter that rest. These 3 things alone are enough for me. I am confident I have gone all in with this and that before I could even recognize or articulate it, God has been ordering my steps and working out things in me in this process. I believe my intended purpose and the one God has worked out in me over the last 4 years has been fulfilled and I am incredibly proud of this body of work. In your favorite podcast app, you can listen to over 100 episodes that will encourage you as you work the plan God has entrusted to you. My version of entering God’s rest is an act of surrender, an act of obedience, an act of trust. I trust God with where all this has been leading and there’s apart of me that believes that it’s always been leading to right where I am now. None of my work has been in vain. It has all mattered. Before you go… In 2022 I am resting from the work of daily/weekly visibility online. I am not resting from my primary work of leadership coaching and consulting. As a matter of fact, I believe freeing up the mental energy, time and resources required to produce this podcast, will give me renewed energy and focus for my work. In case you aren’t aware, my work is centered around helping mission-driven CEOs/leaders become the leader their vision deserves through activating their strengths and the strength of their team. What that looks like in this current season is (a) I am partnering with the leader of a global DEI organization to provide leadership coaching and diversity training for her corporate and nonprofit clients. (b) I help business and ministry leaders who have reached a level of mastery in their field plan, produce and launch a digital leadership development resource that creates an additional stream of income in their business or ministry. (c ) I provide private coaching for mission-driven women CEOs who want to become the leader their vision deserves through activating their strengths and the strength of their team. 28 Jul 2021 | 90. Books I Wish I Had Written | 00:16:20
When we were planning the episode for the month, I knew I wanted to share with you books that I felt so perfectly aligned with StrongHer.me that I wish I had written them myself. These books represent a specific part of my own spiritual growth journey. Many of my own core values and beliefs about calling are expressed in these books. Once you’ve listened to this episode, I hope you will share a book that communicates one of your core values as a leader. // Show Notes Ready to Rise: Own Your Voice, Gather Your Community, Step Into Your Influence by Jo Saxton The Emotionally Healthy Woman: 8 Things to Quit to Change Your Life by Geri Scazzero The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene' Brown Successful Women Think Differently by Valorie Burton // July #WorkYourPlan Book Club Selection: "The Gift: 12 Lessons to Save Your Life" by Edith Eger Edith Eger is a clinical psychologist and a Holocaust survivor. 28 Aug 2019 | 55. How To Break Free of Impostor Syndrome with Felicia Davis | 00:49:57
Our guest for this BONUS episode is Felicia Davis of The Black Women's Collective. Felicia is a bold, brilliant leader I’ve had the honor of getting to know over the last few years. Felicia started her career as an HR Assistant spending 20+ years in the trenches where she quickly rose up the ranks to become an HR Executive. Her public speaking appearances educate, engage and inspire women to fully step into their power as leaders. Felicia leads an organization called the Black Women’s Collective. She has a Facebook group that she uses to equip and encourage other women leaders. When she posted a resource she created around helping women combat impostor syndrome I knew I had to have her as a guest on the show. As you will hear in this episode, circumstances some might view as setbacks (major health challenges and her deeply introverted nature - there's a lot of tips in this episode for those of us with a more introverted nature) Felicia views as opportunities to be maximized for her growth. Felicia Quotes: "I learned how to fully leverage my introversion." "I embrace my own pace." "Your vibe is going to attract your tribe." "Confidence is stepping boldly into who you're meant to be." "Confidence builds when you get feedback." "You have to have a new relationship with failure...sometimes your growth comes through making mistakes." "It's not about perfection. It's about creating a space and a container where people feel heard, felt and seen." "Show up how you want to go up." *********************** Show Notes: Felicia Davis

08 May 2019 | 48. Should I start a nonprofit or a for profit business? | 00:51:36
I’m Kendra Tillman your host and the founder of StrongHer.Me where we encourage and equip go-getter women act more courageously in their calling as a wife, mom and entrepreneur. In general, May is a big month for moms. There’s Mother’s day and graduations. High school graduations, specifically, are big days in a mom’s life. I know because our oldest daughter is graduating this month. High school graduation is when our children take a major step in their journey of crossing from childhood into adulthood. Over this school year, I've spent a great deal of time reflecting on my journey with her. What I know to be true is engaged parenting requires emotional and physical energy. So much learning and impartation has happened, knowingly and unknowingly, in the last 17/18 years of our child's life. It's normal to feel inadequate. "Did we do enough?" "Should I have done that differently?" "Will he/she be ok?" "What kind of life will they have?" "Will they seek out a relationship with God, when we aren't around?" These are some of the nagging questions we all ask as parents and mentors. At this stage of parenting, it's easier to notice our faults and the do-over moments we wish we could have. I'm here to encourage you, no matter where you are in your mothering journey, God's grace is enough to cover all the ways we wished we had parented better. Even though I haven't done it perfectly, my heart is filled with gratitude and joy to have had the privilege to mother/mentor another human being for almost 18 years. In celebration of this new season, everything we publish @StrongHerMe this month is to awaken the promises God gave you years ago (possibly even before you became a parent or mentor) but have possibly gone dormant for various reasons.
One of the ways I stay present in this journey is by setting new goals. For a season of a few years I stopped setting goals, because I hated the feeling of setting a goal and not achieving it. After multiple missed attempts at achieving my goals I started to lose hope that what I imagined was possible. As I've gotten older, I've started to see goal setting differently than I did in early adulthood. I started setting goals, once I realized the value in goal setting was not in the achievement alone, but in the transformation I experienced in the process. I now view goal setting as a form of vision casting (in writing). The process helps me to ask myself daily, "what choices will I make, today, that my future self will thank me for later?" Are you craving a similar shift in your thinking? Are you looking for a fellow mom and go getter to help you develop a plan to live more intentionally? I can equip you with the tools you need to set and achieve your most meaningful goals. This process I've learned over the years is how I've helped a diverse group of women reach their 5Ks, 10Ks and half marathon race goals. It's also helped me organize and execute a transformative yearly women's empowerment event since 2014. I believe you will see goals as tools you can use to not only strategize, but execute on using our gifts and abilities more effectively. Being specific is important to making progress in your life. Making sure your goals reflect your values is also important. There's one other element you may be overlooking that I want to share with you. Mark your calendars and join me next Tues, May 14th at 6pm MST for a FREE 45 minute online workshop on this process. Register today: StrongHerMe #WorkYourPlan Goal Setting Workshop. Ok. Now, let's get to today's episode of #WorkYourPlan with Kendra. Our guest is an attorney and one of my dearest friends, Lauren Morgan. If confusion about the difference between a non profit and for profit, has slowed you down from moving forward, today is the day for you to get unstuck. In this episode Lauren breaks down the different business entities, misconceptions of nonprofits, protecting your intellectual property and she also addresses fears around hiring an attorney. It’s packed with value. Note: This session was recorded live on Facebook, so you can view it on Facebook.com/strongherme. 22 Sep 2021 | 98: My Evolution As a Woman: My 40s | 00:18:52
September is my birthday month so we are taking a little walk down memory lane. I’ll share how I grew from the inside out in each season of transition. We’re calling this series “My evolution as a woman”. As I share my truths, I hope it will ignite in you a desire to reflect over each season of transition in your life and anywhere you’ve been stagnant you’ll be re-energized. In my 40s I’m navigating my identity as a woman. I feel like one of the best gifts I’ve given myself is to no longer look around waiting for permission or validation to step out in the things God is calling me to. To second guess myself, to doubt used to be my first response. // Join us for our Fall Activation Circle. A circle is an intimate group of women who clap for and challenge each other! 29 Jan 2019 | 39. Meet the Mentor Series Spring 2019: Brandice Daniel | 00:43:05
In today’s episode I interview Brandice Daniel, founder of Harlem’s Fashion Row. Brandice is the CEO and Founder of Harlem's Fashion Row. HFR was founded in 2007 with the main focus being to provide a voice for multicultural designers; through a creative platform that enables these designers to sell and present their collections to key leaders within the fashion industry. My favorite thing about this interview is Brandice’s transparency. She pours herself out in this interview and gives us a peak behind the glamour of running a fashion business in New York. She’s been on her entrepreneurial journey for over a decade. I’m highlighting Brandice first for 2 reasons, she’s our featured keynote and because I believe her story epitomizes our core values of courage, confidence and consistency. She is a woman of faith who is thriving in the fashion, arts and entertainment industry. I can’t wait for you to meet her! In this interview she is as transparent about her past and currents struggles. She shares the story behind her greatest business breakthrough and her ongoing success habits. What was your takeaway from this episode? What core values did it stir in you? 20 Nov 2019 | 63. Responding to Hurt with HOPE with Pastor Gloria Brintnall | 01:05:38
My guest for this episode is Pastor Gloria Brintnall. Gloria has served as an itinerant minister for several years, taking her passionate preaching and teaching of the Word of God throughout America. She's assisted in the planting and establishment of four satellite churches. She is the author of 3 books. Stuff Happens, HOPE Anyway is her most recent book and the one we'll be discussing in this interview. I want to set the back story of why this interview was important to me. Imagine there is a couple in your church. The couple leads worship at your church. You know there kids because you serve them in the youth dept. They move away because of a call to ministry. They travel the world ministering through song. Years later, they settle into lead a church. Their kids are either young adults at this point or approaching it. They are not a constant in your life, but they are a family that you once knew. Then, one day you learn that the husband has been arrested and sentenced to prison time. This family’s world is flipped upside down. Because you are not close friends, you witness how the mom and her children move forward in their lives from a distance through Facebook. After a decade has passed the wife writes a book sharing how God kept her and her children and restored her through the storm. Now that you have that insight, one more thing before I share the interview. I’m called to help women heal from the pain of a devastating defining moment and get on with living the good life God has planned for them. What struck me most about Pastor Gloria’s story is how her message of hope shines through in the midst of a devastating, defining moment in her life. It has not marked her with bitterness or even fear about the future. I find that remarkable and I believe you will too. *********************** Show Notes: Instagram: @GloriaBrintnall Reach out to a local Christian therapist for help with porn addiction. 28 Apr 2021 | 84. What courageous conversation are you avoiding? | 00:19:39
To minimize the possibility of offense when engaging in a courageous conversation: Pray in advance so that you have God's wisdom and his heart for the interaction. State the facts first. Then share your story (how it impacted you; FYI your story is not a fact. It’s how you see it.) Now switch to listening. Ask for their perspective. Remember the reason/purpose for the conversation. Your goal is not to convince, compel or control. You want to move towards understanding and accountability. *** Mentioned in this episode: Crucial Conversations: Tools for Talking When Stakes Are High by Kerry Patterson, Joseph Grenny, Ron McMillan and Al Switzler *** Have you ever dropped the ball? 09 Oct 2019 | 60. Healing, Reconciliation & Finishing Strong | 00:31:50
Today we’re kicking this month off with a solo episode. I want to address our mental well being in health. At this point of the year our hearts and minds can already be in the new year. As we head into the 4th quarter of the year, I want us to ask ourselves how do we finish the year strong mentally, emotionally, physically? In order to do that we need to decide where we are today. I want to speak directly to those who have taken some leap of faith/a cliff jump/a risk this year or in years past and landed flat on your face. *********************** The STRONG Womanhood Growth Journal: Activate the Courage to Live Out Your Calling is a self directed guide for women who want to be active participants in their personal transformation and are looking for a process to mentor them through it. 02 Mar 2018 | Ep 26 - 2018 StrongHer Event Session #1: S.T.R.O.N.G. Framework ~ Trials | 00:19:47
(photo credit: Crystal Clear Photography) In 2018 I wanted to teach a simple framework that would help women begin to connect the dots of the different areas of their life to the greater story God was telling with their life. For lasting transformation you need an appreciation of how God has wired you and why it matters. The message of "you are stronger than you think" came to the surface near the end of a season of anger, fear, shame, guilt, anxiety, resentment and disappointment. I realize now, only in hindsight, that I was grieving. I was grieving the loss of reputation and relationships and dreams that didn't unfold quite how I imagined. I felt like a victim in my own life. I wasn't a victim, but I was overwhelmed with self pity. The Holy Spirit's response to my weak state, my state of begging to be rescued from the consequences of our costly mistakes: "my grace is sufficient. My strength is made perfect in weakness...I have plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you a future and a hope. " You are stronger than you think. I first remember hearing "you are stronger than you think" in an aerobics class. Then, I would see it on the signs of the crowds who cheer runners on at races. It was repeatedly confirmed in scripture and I started to believe, again. When I started to thank God for who He is and His faithfulness in my life, I started to get my joy back. When I started to get my joy back, my strength was renewed and my confidence in the power of prayer and God's power to answer were restored. I was admonished and assured that I was not a victim. I want to remind you of the same thing:You are not a victim. You are victorious. You've made mistakes. You are still loved and valuable. God is for you. His grace is sufficient. He has plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you a future and a hope. in Jesus name, Amen. Listen to this brief excerpt from my talk at the event. Then, consider a trial in your life that has matured you and shaped how you view God and your life. What lessons have you learned from that experience that might help someone else? Please, share your response with me on instagram or on the post on the blog:

12 Jan 2018 | Ep 21 Meet the Mentor Series: Ericka Young | 00:28:24
One of my favorite things to do leading up to the 2018 You Are Stronger Than You Think Women's event is to host the Meet the Mentor series. This series of podcast episodes will give you a taste of the teaching you can expect the day of the event. Meet the Mentor is your confirmation you have signed up for an amazing experience and if you’ve held out to the last minute, it’s your tap on the shoulder to get you, your girlfriends and the teen girls in your life registered. For the Meet the Mentor series I have recorded my conversations with our 7 dynamic speaker-mentors. Today's featured speaker-mentor is Ericka Young of Tailor-made Budgets. Ericka is a Dave Ramsey certified budget coach who has helped over 200 families become better money managers. Ericka and her husband Chris know the financial struggles of trying to live the "American dream". After they paid off nearly $100,000 of debt themselves they vowed never to return to that place again and to help other families "change their family tree." In this episode, Ericka and I talk about her passion for helping families reach their financial goals and how community has helped her work her plan in her personal and professional life. 21 Jul 2021 | 89. Audiobooks That Give Us Courage to Speak Our Stories | 00:25:40
I usually share physical books, but I want to recommend some audio books this week. I love listening to books in the author’s voice. There is a true connection that is made when you hear someone’s words in their voice. I think one of the powerful elements of podcasting is you hearing my voice. Our voice tells a story. When you hear someone’s voice, you get a sense of their body language, you see their flaws which is always connecting, you get to absorb more of their personality, their history. // Show Notes How to Fix a Broken Record by Amena Brown Fierce, Free and Full of Fire by Jen Hatmaker Born a Crime by Trevor Noah The Dream of You by Jo Saxton Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates // July #WorkYourPlan Book Club Selection: "The Gift: 12 Lessons to Save Your Life" by Edith Eger Edith Eger is a clinical psychologist and a Holocaust survivor. 21 Aug 2019 | 52. Finding Your Voice As A Wife | 01:09:54
In today’s episode I’m talking with 2 dynamic women that I can’t wait for you to meet. They are transparent and wise. They entrusted their stories to me, a woman they didn’t know the week before. We met through the Entrusted Women Facebook Group. My guests are Jessica Collazo & Debra Cheeks. Jessica is a Chicago native with a heart that beats for Jesus. Her passion is to challenge women to think differently, gain a new perspective and live confidently. Because she knows, it’s possible. Jessica lives in Charlotte, North Carolina with her husband, Jerry, two sons and dog, Sawyer. Debra Cheek is the wife of John Cheek, and a mom of 7. She is passionate about family, and that passion is most seen in her love for marriages. Her desire to see God's people restore marriage to a place of honor has been channeled and grown through writing, as she published "The Believing Wife" in 2017, and through teaching bible studies, workshops, and seminars. In March of 2017, she founded Believing Wives Bible Study, a ministry designed to teach and train wives to fulfill God's original plan for their lives and in so doing change their homes, communities, and the nation. In this episode we discussed:

10 Nov 2017 | Ep 18: There's More to Your Story with Ginger Ciminello | 01:07:48
As we focus on living a well done life this last quarter of 2017, I realized how we see ourselves often impacts our choices. The quote "To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment" is sometimes painfully true in our generation. This month I continue the conversation we started with Pat Patterson in episode 17: Your Self Esteem DNA. If you ever struggle with loving your life and loving yourself, episode 17 and today's podcast will help you start moving towards a healthier perspective. After I heard today's guest, Ginger Ciminello speak at a retreat she hosted, I knew I had to add her to my list of mentor friends. Her passion for scripture and her gift of storytelling make you want to spend more time reading God's word for yourself. Ginger is wise and vulnerable and transparent about a hard season of her life when she kept an eating disorder hidden from friends and family. She also shares how God has taken her love of theater and help her step into her purpose and how that journey has helped heal her identity. This is an episode you don't want to miss. Ginger and I would love to hear your thoughts over on the blog or on social media.
