We are very lucky as Andy openly and honestly describes his ordeal, including his therapy and recovery to the present day and how he copes with his life going forward.

There's time this week for "Martins Joke of the Week"
Dr500, is new, it's online but what is it and is it any good, tune in to find out.
In this week's podcast, "Tyre'd but not out" we are very pleased to have a very special guest Mr Keith Ambrose.
Kieth is a local (to us) very successful businessman, owner of the company "Treadfirst" with a number of outlets across East Anglia in the United Kingdom.
There are over 200 different types of Cancer worldwide and today we discuss with Keith one very rare Cancer known as "Polycythemia Vera"
Keith openly and honestly tells of his pre-diagnosis conditions, how for three years he struggled to get to a point when a full and complete diagnosis was eventually made, and his procedures and ongoing treatment to the present day.
This truly is a remarkable story and such an addictive listen, an insight into one of the rarest Cancers today of which we still know very little.
Keith's Cancer study made a new ground-breaking discovery in the understanding of Polycythemia Vera which astounded the leading Professor in this field.
Note: We appreciate the word Tyre'd in the title is spelled incorrectly, but it relates to Keith's business which involves Tyres.
It's Friday and Martin and Patrick are back with Episode 7 :-)

It's a bright and cheerful Podcast today thank you for joining us.
Martin is full of beans today as he describes his recent visit to the hospital and discusses the results from a recent scan on his Stage 4 Lung Cancer. It is always a fearful time for any patient to visit the Oncologist to receive results but this time there is some good news.
Martin also goes on to discuss "Lung Drains" and his experience in detail, including fitting, management, fluid draining, and ongoing management.
We have some very interesting and unusual questions from our listeners this week and we try our best to answer all of these.
The TV show "I'm a Celebrity Get Me out of Here" has started and we discuss two of the Z list of celebrities.
Don't miss "Martins Joke of the Week"
We pay a little tribute to King Charles's 75th Birthday. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's invite was apparently snubbed by the pair.
A brief introduction to next week's exciting guests.
We invite into the studio our wives Lynnie and Wendy to discuss how they have dealt with our illness.
From the onset of a heart attack, Wendy describes how she took charge and got Patrick to the hospital herself rather than waiting for the emergency services. She describes how she felt then, how she feels today, and how she deals with Patrick's heart disease every day. How Heart Disease has affected the relationship, the changes that had to be made, and ongoing care.
The dreaded day Lynnie together with Martin received the news that he had been diagnosed with Stage four Lung Cancer. Lynnie describes her feelings at that news, and how she deals with the ongoing treatment and monitoring of Martins's condition. She expresses how angry she feels with the world and why it has happened to them, how they missed any signs of Stages 1,2 and 3, and how she feels out of control.
Both Women speak openly and honestly and with no holds barred, expressing in some cases for the first time the effect on them and the worry they carry on a daily basis, knowing there is no escape.
Please listen to this Podcast and appreciate how difficult it was to get our wives on the Podcast and to open up to both of us in this most unusual way.
There is a chance to hear "Martin's Joke of the Week" with a bonus at the end.
Today we begin the silly season with our first ever episode in the Month of December.

Our Social Media has been busy too as we welcome two new celebrity followers, two of Britain's popular comedy stars Michael Barrymore and Al Murray (the Pub Landlord)

Mrs Franz has been on "Good Morning America" and gives us her thoughts and treatment success. Martin also goes on to talk about Lobular Cancer of the Breast and the treatment success rate.
Martin's "Joke of the Week" one of our favourites
Cliff Richard has been in the news for the wrong reasons, find out why and what we thought.
We finally round-up with our normal summary of the Podcast and some exciting news about our future guests who have been lined up for future Podcasts in January 2024.

https://www.make-a-wish.org.uk/
Patrick tells us about his recent check with the Cardiologist, and his Ultrasond. This is a real eye-opening discussion into Blood Flow, Ejection Fraction (EF), and Diastolic Dysfunction in Grades 1,2, and 3. Patrick also describes the ECG and his experience of a heart attack whilst connected to an ECG and exactly what happened.
Martin comes up with his "Joke of the Week" a regular spot in our Podcasts now.
We have some interesting comments and letters from listeners this week and try to help them through.
A real light-hearted start to the Podcast this week as we discuss Christmas preparations, family, and favorite Christmas television.
Our guest this week is Shirley Willsher, Shirley has had two major health events in her life, the first being Arteriovenous malformation (AVM's) and a few years later a Heart attack.
Shirley openly and honestly tells us how the onset of ATV put her in a six-day Coma, had major surgery, and dealt with recovery. An unexpected turn of events that all came early one normal morning while at the gym. Following her recovery, a few years later Shirley suffered a heart attack one morning family gathered around to help, and was again rushed into hospital for surgery the very same day.
Arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) happen when a group of blood vessels in your body forms incorrectly. In these malformations, arteries and veins are unusually tangled and form direct connections, bypassing normal tissues. This usually happens during development before birth or shortly after.
During a heart attack, a lack of blood flow causes the tissue in the heart muscle to die. A heart attack is also called a myocardial infarction. Prompt treatment is needed for a heart attack to prevent death.
We of course cannot finish our Podcast this week without "Martin's Joke of the Week"
In closing, we discuss our next show and what we have lined up and of course wish everyone a happy Christmas.

In this Podcast, Martin and Patrick are delighted to talk with John-Paul Holt (JP) who is a Macmillan Cancer Care Navigator.
Paul is based at the Macmillan Centre at the West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds located in Suffolk UK.
We are so lucky to have JP on our Podcast today given his heavy and important workload, but JP has found some time to tell us about the history of Macmillan Cancer Care, his role, and what Macmillan Cancer Care provides.
In 1911, a young man named Douglas Macmillan watched his father die of cancer. His father's pain and suffering moved Douglas so much, that he founded the Society for the Prevention and Relief of Cancer.
Macmillan is one of the UK's largest Cancer Charities which provides a range of services and support not only to the Cancer patients themselves but also to their families and friends too.
Listen to JP explain the range of support and services available from simple things like a chat to helping with the Cance, finances, and a whole range of things that come into play following a Cancer Diagnosis.
This is an extended Podcast as we cannot echo enough how important Macmillian Cancer Support is to the patients, family, and friends of this terrible illness and how they are with you every step of the way.

This week Martin and Patrick have kindly been invited into the home of Karen Turner who suffers from Multiple Sclerosis.
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a condition that can affect the brain and spinal cord, causing a wide range of potential symptoms, including problems with vision, arm or leg movement, sensation, or balance.
It's a lifelong condition that can sometimes cause serious disability, although it can occasionally be mild.
In many cases, it's possible to treat symptoms. Average life expectancy is slightly reduced for people with MS.
It's most commonly diagnosed in people in their 20s, 30s, and 40s although it can develop at any age. It's about 2 to 3 times more common in women than men.
MS is one of the most common causes of disability in younger adults.
Karen gives a candid interview with the boys about her private life, describing the onset of multiple sclerosis from the early signs and symptoms, the diagnosis, the progression, and living daily with the illness.
This is a moving interview, truthful, and honest, and delves into the depths of multiple sclerosis and the daily struggles and support needed to live as much as an independent life as possible.
Karen is very strong, and one thing that is very apparent in this interview is the positive attitude Karen has to cope with each day and moving forward with her life, this interview is truly inspirational a we are so grateful to Karen for sharing her story with us.
More information on multiple sclerosis can be found here at MS-UK.
We are taking a break from guests this week as Martin and Patrick take a breather.

We have listened to Martin tell us all about his Cancer in recent episodes but Martin thought that "St Patrick's Day" is tomorrow (March 16th, 2024) there is not a better time to talk to Patrick.
Patrick openly and honestly talks today about the timeline of his two heart attacks 10 years apart, leading up to the event, during the Heart attacks itself, the procedures and stents, and the rehabilitation afterward.
Patrick discusses his drug regime, itemising each one and their uses, not forgetting the side effects associated with these drugs.
Martin asks Patrick a series of questions along the way along with some unassociated questions about his life living with Heart Disease.
You may be surprised to hear this story and some of you may be able to re-late well with the story and his drug regime too.
This week for one week only Patrick gets the "Joke of the week" spot but is it as good or as bad as Martin's you tell us?

Martin is currently battling with Stage 4 Lung cancer and is on a very new trial drug called Lorlatinib (details will be posted in our blog). Following Martin's recent CT (Computed Tomography) Scan completed two weeks ago are in, we discuss the findings and Martins's reaction to the results.
We discuss our very first "LIVE" road show presenting to Sudbury Sporting Memories. This is the first time Martin and Patrick have performed live together since 1998 in front of a real-time live audience.
A brief introduction to CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) is covered today.
One of our listeners from the USA writes in and tells us his story leading up to and including his recent Heart Attack, the treatment he received, and his family support.
Patrick also discusses how one of his friends has recently been told he will require three stents and the long 3-month wait for his procedure.
It's Easter (Good Friday) and chocolate is in the air (or is it) as we buy Easter Eggs across the world, how do you eat your "Cadbury's Cream Eggs" (other brands are available). It's a hard time of the year for Patrick as his Easter Egg count has come down considerably since discovering his Heart Disease some 15 years ago.
The boys discuss recent news and include the Princess of Wales in their brief chat.\\
Today's headline subject for discussion is "Statins. What do we know about these drugs, who should be taking them, and for what? Do they cause many side effects as many suggest and is memory loss one of those side effects?
Statins block an enzyme the liver needs to make cholesterol. This causes the liver to remove cholesterol from the blood. While statins are highly effective and safe for most people, they have been linked to muscle pain, digestive problems, and mental fuzziness in some people.
It is said, that although there are some potential side effects long-term for statins, in most cases, if your doctor has identified you as having high cholesterol and needing a statin, the benefits greatly outweigh the risks.
It's important to know that stopping statins cold turkey, or even gradually, can cause serious health problems and you should talk to your doctor before doing so.
We review some questions from our listeners and try and assist where we can remember to consult your doctor.
Martin's Joke of the week returns, it's short, it's sweet but is it funny?
It's been over 6 months now since the first released episode of "Who's Tom & Dick" where has that time gone. Today Episode 27 represents the start of our second half of the year.
We look back at Easter and how we celebrate this with our family, a difficult time of the year for Patrick in particular given his love of chocolate and his Heart Disease.
We look back at our "LIVE" presentation at the Sporting Memories Club locally and how that went down, discussing the subject matter and how it was all received.
A new feature this week, Patrick's has been away and came home with two boxes of Jokes for Martin, Patrick and Martin have a Joke to Joke stand-off using randomly selected cards from each joke box.
We start the week with Martin and Patrick's date night and a trip to the Theatre to see UK Comedy Legend and TV personality Jimmy Tarbuck (Tarby), how did that go?
John Alfred Tinniswood is the oldest living man today at 111 years born the year the Titanic sank, we find out what his tips are on a long and healthy life.
The Drug Dealer, Both Martin, and Patrick with their different illnesses (Cancer and Heart Disease) have a daily cocktail of regular medication to take, and these drugs can be expensive.
What are the costs and how do they compare?
What are the possible side effects and does everyone suffer from these in the same way?
This interesting and amusing discussion goes on to explore the side effects and the impact on daily life.
Martin's Joke of the Week with the bonus of an additional joke from Patrick this week.
Next week our Guests return and the boys tell us who and what to expect.
Last week's Podcast (The Drug Dealer) received the most comments to date and it wasn't about the title, the feedback about the medication and its side effects were amazing and we will be looking at Patrick's drugs and side effects in a future episode.
Today we are pleased to commence our Summer guest list with our first guest, Louise Steggall.
Louise has had the most incredible life experiences when it comes to Cancer both as a Nurse and patient, and tells her story uniquely.
After both her Mother and Father battled with Cancer and finally succumbed she discovers she has a new fight on her hands as she receives a diagnosis of Breast Cancer.
Louise is also a Healthcare Professional and in her time has worked and helped many with Cancer nursing them through diagnosis to end-of-life care. She tells all about the highs and the lows, the mixed emotions, and how she deals with this daily whilst looking after her family and children.

Louise has been and still is involved with Dementia following her mother's diagnosis and she tells us about the Dementia help group she has recently formed locally and runs with great success.
Next week our guest is World Champion Snooker legend Cliff Thorburn.
Well today is a very special day as we welcome our second celebrity guest World Champion Snooker Player Cliff Thorburn
Patrick and Martin have a great informal chat to Cliff who now lives back in Canada.
Clifford Charles Devlin Thorburn (born 16 January 1948) is a Canadian retired professional Snooker player, Nicknamed "The Grinder" because of his slow, determined style of play.
Cliff won the World Snooker Championship in 1980 defeating Alex Higgins 18–16 in the final.
He is generally recognised as the sport's first world champion from outside the United Kingdom and he remains the only world champion from the Americas. He was runner-up in two other world championships, losing 21–25 to John Spencer in the 1977 final and 6–18 to Steve Davis in the 1983 final.
At the 1983 tournament, Thorburn became the first player to make a maximum break of 147 in a World Championship match, achieving the feat in his second-round encounter with Terry Griffiths.
Ranked World Number one during the 1981 - 1982 season, Thorburn was the first non-British player to top the snooker world rankings. He won the Invitational Masters in 1983, 1985, and 1986, making him the first player to win the tournament three times and the first to retain the title.
Chris retired from the main professional tour in 1996. Inducted into Canada's Sporting Hall of Fame in 2001 and the Snooker Hall of Fame in 2014, he competed later in his career in Snooker Legends events and on the World Series tour, winning the 2018Seniors Masters at the Crucible Theatre at age 70. He retired from competitive snooker after the 2022 seniors.
In today's episode, Martin and Patrick return to their second home at the West Suffolk Hospital to visit the offices of My Wish Charity and meet up with Sue Smith (Head of fundraising) and her colleague Tanya Fifield (Fundraising Officer).
The charity was entered on the Central Register of Charities on the 15th of September 1995. It constituted 91 individual funds and was managed ad ad-hoc by the West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust’s Finance department.
A part-time fundraising manager was employed in May 2010 to help the Trust manage its fundraising income and to work with the local community on increasing the number of donations. The response from the community was fantastic, so much so that in November 2011 a part-time fundraising assistant joined the fundraising team for 2 days per week.
In May 2016 the decision was made to rebrand the charity launching under the new name of My WiSH Charity. This decision has seen the charity go from strength to strength thanks to the amazing community and staff all wanting to support their local hospital.
My WiSH Charity is the local NHS Charity. They are not here to replace the NHS but to enhance the wonderful care patients receive at West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust.
West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust includes West Suffolk Hospital, Newmarket Community Hospital, and the community services they both provide. Its care is second to none, however, its budget is not limitless. With public help, they can support all their services enabling their wonderful staff to go that extra mile.
Today the boys (Martin & Patrick) have professional footballer Steve Wignall as a guest and he openly discusses his professional football career. He also touches upon his recent struggle with memory loss and the possibility of having CTE (Chronic traumatic encephalopathy).

After three weeks of guests Martin & Patrick find themselves back in the studio but this time back on their own.
It's a chance to catch up and discuss some interesting topics on health matters, the ban on Ice Cream in Milan, Italy, and a Ramb that decides to attack its owners and turn on the police.
One of the main topics discussed at length is the drug known as Statins, both Martin and Patrick are on Statins Martin 40 mg and Patrick the maximum dose allowed is 80 mg.
There are many side effects associated with Statins and Martin lists the most common while the boys decide if they may suffer from these or any side effects and also discover some things to avoid if they are taking Statins.
Although there are some potential side effects long-term for statins, in most cases, if your doctor has identified you as having high cholesterol and needing a statin, dothe benefits outweigh the risks?
What is the conclusion, are Statins
It is also time for the return of "Martin's Joke of the Week"
Finally, there is some exciting news about future guests and these will be revealed.
Steve tells about his ups and downs, some funny moments, his time in Europe, and his thoughts on todays game and the technology being introduced.
We don't get a chance for Martins Joke of the Week this time around but it will return in the next episode
Finally, next week we will be back on track at Mumma Bee's and discussing all things Cancer with some brave ladies who have been through Breast Cancer and come out the other side positively.
Cancer, especially Breast cancer is the order of the day today at "Mama B Cancer Wellbeing Days" and what a day it was, It was truly inspirational to both Martin and Patrick and a privilege to be allowed behind the closed doors of Stephen John’s Salon.
Owner Steve Trowles set up the group after many years of supporting women needing wigs due to their treatment. He said: “I met these women and they opened up to me. I would then have the next client come in and think, I need you to talk to the previous person so you can connect and support each other.”
Named after his much-loved mum, Brenda, who sadly passed away in 2016, the days allow women (and Men) undergoing cancer treatment to come to the salon where they enjoy some pampering thanks to volunteers, a light lunch, and, most importantly, a chance to talk to each other, share their stories and offer each other support and advice.
Steve added: “My mum was such an inspirational woman. Losing her left a huge hole in my heart but hosting these days in her memory and supporting women through cancer is just a blessing and I just hope that Mama B’s makes life a little better for everyone at a difficult time.”
Martin & Patrick Get to talk to Steve, the Ladies attending the event, and some of the invaluable volunteers that make this work including local Charity "My Wish Charity" and Tesco Stores.
This is one Podcast that has left a huge lasting impression on Martin and Patrick and simply goes to show there is still so much good in the world.
If you think this something you would like to tap into, support or even sponsor please get in touch with My Wish Charity.

We call this Episode "Cardiac Karaoke" after the famous James Corden Series of carpool karaoke with his special guests.
Patrick & Martin have no special guests, however, they are in the car and one has cardiac issues so we couldn't resist the links.
It is a light-hearted episode this week where the boys chat about all sorts of things and some of the topics include their experience with their stays in the hospital, changing brands of regular medication, end-of-life and assisted dying (Cheerful).

This week we have a real treat as the boys travel down and into Kent.
Our special guest today has had 3 number-one hit singles, appeared in the Eurovision contest twice coming second, and then First in 1981 with "Making Your Mind Up".
Our very special guest this week is Cheryl Baker of the 80's Pop Group "Bucks Fizz"
This is a wonderful interview staged in Cheryl's back garden during one of the sunny days recently and we are also joined by Cheryl's lovely dog Cuba.
Cheryl does not hold back, she openly tells us her story from the very beginning from the moment she sang at the Church Hall to winning Europe's most prestigious song contest.
Cherly tells us about the terrible Bus accident during a Bucks Fizz Tour, where she woke up and found herself on the road having been thrown through the front windscreen of the brand new tour bus.
We delve deeper into the struggle Cheryl had falling pregnant and how ground-breaking IVF treatment gave her two beautiful children and how they have gone on to be successful in Music, stage, and particularly the Edingurough Festival most recently.
Finally touching on her time presenting on mainstream television for several years, Cheryl tells us what she would like to do now.
This is truly a frank and open interview and we hope you enjoy it.
Today the boy's go down the local boozer to meet a local man this week to give us an insight into the of physio.
Physiotherapy helps to restore movement and function when someone is affected by injury, illness or disability. It can also help to reduce your risk of injury or illness in the future. It takes a holistic approach that involves the patient directly in their own care.
Physiotherapy is treatment to restore, maintain, and make the most of a patient's mobility, function, and well-being. Physiotherapy helps through physical rehabilitation, injury prevention, and health and fitness. Physiotherapists get you involved in your own recovery.
Local professional Physiotherapist Mr Tony Brightwell joins us as our guest this week and tells us about his career as a Professional Sports Injuries Physiotherapist working for Professional Sports clubs up and down the Country and even his trip abroard with the British Womens Football Team.
Tony, tells us about his training, his treatments, stories and thought process to Physio after medical procedures and hospital operations.
This is an interesting look into the world of Physiotherapy and why it should be taken very seriously in the recovery process of so many injuries including Stroke rehabilitation.
No joke of the week this week but there are one or two laughs along the way, Tony is retired now
Yes we cannot believe it ourselves 40 episodes completed, today we look back on some of the popular episodes that stand out for Martin and Patrick.
From Episode 1 "The beginning" released on 29th September 2023, Martin and Patrick have had some extremely interesting guests, interesting subjects and a lot of fun along the way.
Heading towards the end of Series 1, the boys feel blessed that the podcast has been so successful both here in the UK and across the globe, guests are now approaching the boy's about an appearance which is absolutely amazing.
The Beginning Tree's skies and smiley faces It's tough to care Oncology at its best Macmillan Cancer support Karen and Multiple Sclerosis Only Joe Pasquale The Drug Dealer The Grinder My Wish A day at Mama B's Race for life Making your Mind Up
Some episodes have been singled out and looked back on today, however the boys are keen to stress that all episodes and guests have been important to them and the Podcast and they are most grateful to everyone that has helped and supported "Who's Tom & Dick"
No "Joke of the week" this week, but be prepared this saga is still to continue.
Series II kicks of towards the end of July, theres some interesting changes planned, a new spin and some exciting guests already lined up.
Next week episode 42 will be the last in the series and will be going out with a bit of a bank.
This is the Final episode in this series (Series 1), and yes we have completed 42 episodes since our very first back in September 2023.
We finish on a real high as Martin tells us all about his recent Cancer tests (Martin has Stage 4 Lung Cancer), including the 4 weekly MRI scan recently completed.
It was nearly 12 Months that Martin laid in Hospital with things looking very beak.
Looking back we revisit Martins Highs and lows from the point of diagnosis to his update and results this week.
It really has been a rollercoaster of a ride, not only did he battle Cancer but on top of it all Sepsis, Pneumonia a chest infection and it was at this point martin really could not see much ahead.
During a visit by Patrick in early August 2023, the idea of a Podcast was first discussed and here we are today at the end of the first series.
We couldn't possibly finish the series without one of Martin's Jokes of the week, how it ends well know one knows but things can only get better.
Thanks for sticking with us and we hope you will join us for Series II which all kicks off next week.
Well we can hardly believe it, we are kicking off Season 2 (Series 2) with a bang.
Martin and Patrick get together for a chat and a discussion all around;
The after life Ghosts Spirts Ouija boards Mediums Psychics Reincarnation
A very interesting discussion (Both serious and humorous) around the part Mediums and Psychics can play after someone has lost someone close.
Afterlife is there such a thing? reincarnation does it really exist?
There are so many sceptics (Patrick is one) but is he right to laugh it off when so many take these subjects so seriously including Martin who has had his own eerie happenings.
Mediumship is the pseudoscientific practice of allegedly mediating communication between familiar spirits or spirits of the dead and living human beings. Practitioners are known as "mediums" or "spirit mediums". There are many types of mediumship or spirit channelling, including séance tables, trance, and ouija.
Psychic is a person who has strange mental powers and abilities (such as the ability to predict the future, to know what other people are thinking, or to receive messages from people who have passed) : a person who has psychic powers.
Afterlife, continued existence in some form after physiological death. The belief that some aspect of an individual survives after death, usually, the individual's soul is common to the great majority of the world's religions what do you think?
Reincarnation is the religious or philosophical belief that the soul or spirit, after biological death, begins a new life in a new body that may be human, animal or spiritual depending on the moral quality of the previous life's actions and beliefs.
Ghosts, soul or spectre of a dead person, usually believed to inhabit the netherworld and to be capable of returning in some form to the world of the living.
OUIJA, used for a board that has the alphabet and other signs on it and that some people believe can be used to communicate with the spirits of dead people.
Have you got any thoughts on the subject, if you have please let us know by visiting the website and leaving us a message with your thoughts.
Martin's Joke of the week isn't spooky but is it funny, we'll let you decide.
Episode 2 of Season 2 and the boys are already hot on the trail of celebrities.
This week Martin and Patrick are overwhelmed to be interviewing one of this Countries (UK) Mega-Star's Mr Jimmy Tarbuck OBE (Tarby).
Jimmy's first television show was "It's Tarbuck " on ITV in 1964, though he had been introduced on Sunday Night at the London Palladium in October 1963 by Sir Bruce Forsyth. He then replaced Forsyth as the last original host of the show from 1965 until it was axed in 1967. He has also hosted numerous quiz shows, including Winner takes all, Full Swing and Tarby's Fame game. In the early 1970s he hosted a variety show called Tarbuck's Luck on the BBC.
In the 1980s, he hosted similar Sunday night variety shows, Live from Her Majesty's, Live from the Piccadilly and finally Live from the Palladium.
He appeared on the fourth series of BBC One's Strictly Come Dancing in but was forced to pull out due to high blood pressure, and needed surgery to fit 3 stents in his heart. In 2008, he returned to a variety format on television screens when he co-hosted, alongside Spice Girl's Emma Bunton an edition of ITV's variety show For One Night Only. He appeared on Piers Morgans Life Stories on 25 May 2012, while on 3 December that year he was invited to celebrate 100 years of the Royal Veriety Performance along with Bruce Forsyth, Ronnie Corbet and Des O'connor.
In February 2020, Jimmy revealed that, the day after his 80th birthday, he had been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer.
In 2022 Jimmy then 81-years-old was back in hospital having a cancerous mole removed from his back.
Listen to Jimmy's fascinating stories over 60 years in show business and how he coped with his Heart issues and Cancer diagnosis and treatments.
We have a special "Joke of the week" this time by a British Legend in Comedy, Jimmy takes on Martin for top spot on "Who's Tom & Dick"
Next we the boys have another special guest Norman Hume who has Emphysema, Charcot-marie-tooth Disease, Bronchiectasis and Prostate cancer, Norman is battled with illness most his life, Listen to his Inspirational story next week.
We are pleased today to have our Guest Norman Hume, martin and Patrick have Known and worked with Norman for 30 years, Martin's childhood Dentists assistant was Norman's wife Anne.
Norman has finally (after the second attempt) agreed to come onto the podcast and tell us about his very rare illness diagnosed as a young boy and the complaints he suffers with today.
Norm has a rare illness called Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease
Norman also has some additional illnesses which include Bronchiectasis, Prostate Cancer and Heart failure.
Martin and Patrick meet Norman at the local hostelry and have a very comfortable and informal chat where Norman speaks honestly and openly about his illness, the diagnosis and living with the diseases.
Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT) is a group of inherited conditions that damage the peripheral nerves, which are located outside of the brain and spinal cord. It's also known as hereditary motor and sensory neuropathy (HMSN) or peroneal muscular atrophy (PMA). CMT is the most common inherited neurological disorder, affecting about one in 2,500 people.
Bronchiectasis is a long-term condition where the airways of the lungs become widened, leading to a build-up of excess mucus that can make the lungs more vulnerable to infection.
Prostate cancer is a disease that occurs when malignant cells form in the prostate gland, a walnut-sized organ that's part of the male reproductive system. It's the most common cancer in men in the UK, and some trans women and non-binary people (who were born male) can also develop it.
Heart failure is a condition where your heart can’t pump blood around your body as well as it should. It doesn’t mean your heart has stopped working but you may need support to help it work better. Finally we do get a chance to slip in Martin's joke of the week.
This week the boys are back at the local Pub (Bar) to record a casual Podcast and catch up generally on the summer months.
Martin brings us all up to date on his recent travels and an encounter with the local wildlife, while trying to enjoy a day at the seaside.
We have an update on Martins Cancer and his new challenge with weight loss and an update on the findings of his recent Diabetes examination, and new drugs suggested.
The UK is going through a bit of a heatwave at the moment so Patrick looks at how one can protect oneself from the heat, heat exhaustion and sunburn.
During heat exhaustion, your body temperature rises above normal. Heat exhaustion is less serious than other heat-related illnesses, like heat stroke. But it can progress to heat stroke. Some symptoms of heat exhaustion include nausea, dizziness, muscle cramps, and sweating more than normal.
Martin investigates the price of Travel Insurance for Cancer patients while Patrick relives his experience this year with his trip to the USA and living with Heart Disease.
Martin's Joke of the week pop's again, we'll leave you to judge that one.

Their goals are to feed the homeless, fund community sport and breed positive mindsets.
Their mission is simple, spread positivity as far & wide as possible! and truly believe that to make real change you must be thinking positively and help others to do the same. “Time is the only currency.”
Harvey is a truly inspirational guest and we were very privileged to have him with us today.

Robin was diagnosed in the prime of his life in 2011 with a Mediastinal Germ Cell Tumour (a grapefruit-sized tumour in his chest). Following 10 months in treatment, including several rounds of chemotherapy and a stem-cell transplant, he was told there was nothing else his medical team could do. He passed away surrounded by his loved ones on December 10th 2011.
His family promised him that ‘he would never just be a photograph on the wall’ and that something good would be born of his tragedy. Robin inspires us to raise awareness, reduce embarrassment and save young lives through the early detection of germ cell cancers.
TOBY FREEMAN BCA after losing his brother Robin to a late-stage germ cell cancer diagnosis, Toby founded The Robin Cancer Trust with a mission to stop young people dying from testicular and ovarian cancers

Today is Legend Music day and the boy's have yet again another very special guest, Nobby Clark from "The Bay City Rollers" fame
Original lead singer and founder member of The Bay City Rollers
Real name: Gordon Fraser Clark, born Edinburgh 10th September 1950.
His early success in the 1960’s and early 1970’s as lead singer and founder member of The Bay City Rollers, saw him performing lead vocals on the band’s early hits: Keep on dancing; We can make music; Manana; Remember and Saturday Night. Leaving the band in 1973 to pursue a solo career as a writer/performer, he released two singles, Steady Love on the Epic label, and Shake it down on the phonogram label.
Nobby performed Shake it down on the Claude Francois 1975 Christmas Special TV show, recorded in Paris shortly before Claude’s tragic death. Claude Francois was one of France’s most popular recording artists, notably responsible for composing the original version of My Way, amongst other wonderful memorable compositions. This television appearance opened up a new market in France for Nobby’s music, taking him on a detour into French films when in 1980 he composed the film score The Big Sky which can still be heard in French cinema’s today.
The following three years were spent managing a recording studio and rehearsal rooms in Edinburgh’s West Saville Terrace, producing many early recordings for artists who later became successful, including Billy McKenzie from The Associates.
After a spell of acting in comedy musicals, such as I’m sorry the bridge is out, you’ll have to spend the night and A slice of Saturday night. for which he received a number of complimentary reviews, including the theatrical newspaper, The Stage, Nobby took some time out to concentrate on his personal life, before setting out to write and record his first solo album for many years.
The album entitled If Only was arranged and produced by his long time friend David Paton who’s own band Pilot achieved world-wide success with songs such as Magic, January and Just a Smile to name but a few. He followed up with Going Home, also produced by David Paton. He now presents his third solo album On The Inside. All three albums contain songs that show Nobby’s depth of feeling in his lyrics and haunting melodies.
His involvement with other artists has continued, working with Kenny Herbert and Rab Howat on their last two albums 8-1-2-1-9-8-0 (to which Nobby contributed the song Slow Down) and playing harmonica and backing vocals on their latest album Songs of our Lives, produced by David Paton.
Nobby’s concern for the environment has seen him involved with various groups and committee’s investigating the best use of renewable energy in the domestic field. He has been fighting for greener areas, where over the years there has been an erosion of playing fields and open spaces. This is an issue close to Nobby’s heart.
After three weeks of wonderful guests Martin & Patrick are on there own for a catch up.
Martin still doing well on his new Cancer treatment heads back for his 3 monthly check up and CT Scan.
Its also good news as for the first time in nearly two and a half years Martin applies for a new Job, can you guess what it is yet all will be revealed.
A new feature this week is guest Ian Trushell who is currently battling Stage 4 Bowel Cancer which has spread into the Liver.
Bowel cancer is also called colorectal cancer. It affects the large bowel, which is made up of the colon and rectum. Cancer is when abnormal cells start to divide and grow in an uncontrolled way. The cells can grow into surrounding tissues or organs, and may spread to other areas of the body.
Ian was given a two year life expectancy but he recently past that date and is continuing his battle with a positive mental attitude. Ian today describes the symptoms of Bowel and what to look out for.
Oh no, yes Martin gets his Joke of the week in this week, not sure if its a winner.
Next week we continue with our guests, Martin and Patrick attend the "Make a Wish Charity" awards ceremony and speak to some of the winning recipients.
This episode replaces the episode that was due out today featuring our Guest Jeff Boland who has suffered from Alcoholism, Kidney replacement and triple bypass surgery.
This episode will now be broadcast on Friday 4th October 2024
Today's episode follows Martin's recent visit to the hospital for is 3 month (quarterly) check up, the results are not quite what Martin expected.
Please have a listen as Martin updates us fully and what the near future holds for Martin.
Martin also gets a chance to get in his Joke of the week.
Sorry this episode was delayed by seven days due to our special last week where Martin updated us on his Cancer and his new battle.
Today the boys interview a very special guest in Jeff Boland.
Jeff once an active firefighter on the front line helping people and saving lives found the pressures very hard at times and found an outlet in a lite drink with colleagues after a busy and sometimes stressful shouts.
Before long the drink had taken control and Jeff became an Alcoholic and his life spiralled down hill fast.
Jeff later found that his Liver had been severely damaged through his drinking and with deteriorating health soon found that the only option was a Liver transplant.
After that Jeff thought it couldn't get any worse but his heart was the issue this time and several Heart attacks followed before he was back in hospital for some bypass surgery.
Listen as Jeff takes us through his life story, it is fascinating and truly amazing, Jeff certainly has a very strong will and its that which has got him through it all today.
No joke of the week this week but it will return, thanks for listening and please like and share our Podcast where yo can.
Another amazing guest joins the boy's and what a story he has to tell.
Life in the Armed forces Suicide Complex Greif Adjustment Disorder Complex PTSD
Trevor Bygate, 48, joins Martin and Patrick for an informal chat about his time in the Armed Forces and how he received the devastating news that his Daughter Chloe had taken her own life in 2014 when she was just 19.
It led to him being medically discharged with complex post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and he has used the experience to educate others of mental health.
Trevor initially took several months off work, but it was not until 2019 that he was diagnosed with complex PTSD and medically discharged from the Army.
He is keen to express his gratitude to the Royal British Legion, which helped him in his recovery after he left the armed forces.
The charity, which provides financial, social and emotional support for those who are and have been in the armed forces, helped fund Chloe's funeral. He described its support as "first class".
Trevor tells us how he received the devastating news whilst away on duty, how the Army supported him through this trauma, what happened to his mental health and how he made it through to today.
Trevor now works as a mental health advocate for HM Revenue and Customs while also helping to give presentations on behalf of Papyrus (Parents' Association for the Prevention of Young Suicide) - a charity dedicated to the prevention of suicide of young people.
He is keen to break the stigma around mental health and show it is OK to talk about struggles, while educating others on the topic.
"I always say to myself, Chloe didn't die for nothing, she died for something and that's me making sure that this story gets out."
One of Trevors outlets during his grieving process was running, sport and completing 6 Marathons raising thousands for charity. This has driven him on to where he finds himself today and finds himself selected for 2025's Invictus games in Canada.
"This year is 10 years since the Invictus Games started, it's 10 years since Chloe died, and I got the phone call to tell me that I was selected on 7 June - which is her 30th birthday.
Trevor believes Chloe was looking down on him the day he found out he had been selected for the games.
This is a truly amazing story from such an inspirational man.
Well we can hardly believe it ourselves but we launch episode 13 of season two today.
This week Martin and Patrick just have a chance to natter and martins been doing a little research on Smart watches, fit watches and wearables used for monitoring your health.
A number of devices are ion the market which can measure steps, pulse, blood pressure, heart rate and even oxygen levels and ECG but just how accurate are they, should they be trusted and can the cause unnecessary anxiety.
Social media and illness, we know that Martin like to update his Family, friends and followers on the stages of his Journey with Cancer and updating on things like treatment, medication, and wellbeing, but is Social media the right place, what sort of comments and messages result?
Ian Trushell, one of our contributors who is fighting stage 4 bowl Cancer tells us about the trolls and messages he has received on his social media accounts.
Yes, we do get a joke of the week from Martin and this week he also has a little ditty to recite.
This weeks episode is all about Stroke's a subject we have yet to cover.
What is a stroke, In medicine, a loss of blood flow to part of the brain, which damages brain tissue. Strokes can be caused by blood clots and broken blood vessels in the brain but in todays case it was a Subarachnoid hemorrhage that was the cause.
Today's special guest Lesley Atherton tells us her story and her road to recovery in remarkable time purely to her grit and determination and with the support of her professional team family and friends not forgetting her dogs.
A subarachnoid hemorrhage is bleeding in the space between your brain and the membrane that covers it. Most often, it occurs when a weak area in a blood vessel (aneurysm) on the surface of the brain bursts and leaks. The blood then builds up around the brain and inside the skull.
We are so blessed with our guests and today is no exception, Lesley tells us her story from the moment she realised something was wrong right through her treatment, rehabilitation and to present days.
She explains what drove her to her recovery, where she found inspiration and what she had to do to get back up on her feet and start living live again after a Stroke. How to identify a stroke
The FAST acronym (Face, Arms, Speech, Time) is a test to quickly identify if someone is having a stroke.
Face weakness: Can the person smile? Has their mouth or eye drooped?
Arm weakness: Can the person raise both arms?
Speech problems: Can the person speak clearly and understand what you say?
Time to call 999: if you see any of these signs.
Thank you all once again for listening and we thank Lesley for joining us today and openly and honestly telling us her remarkable story
The boy's love to cover different stories and this one certainly is just that.
Gender Reassignment.
We are so lucky this week to be discussing this subject with the one and only Kellie Maloney.
Kellie Maloney is an English boxing manager and promoter, and television personality. Kellie managed Lennox Lewis, who won the undisputed heavyweight championship of the world, between 1989 and 2001. This made Maloney the first Briton to manage a British heavyweight champion in almost a century.
Kellie has been married twice, marrying her first wife, Jackie, aged 21 The couple had their first child, Emma, shortly after.
She was married for over 15 years to second wife Tracey; they have two daughters together.
Kellie said in her first televised interview as an open trans woman that she and Tracey are now divorced, but that she has been "very supportive".
Following threats from the press to out her, in August 2014, Kellie announced in the Sunday Mirror that she is now known as Kellie, and was undergoing gender reassignment. Lennox Lewis was initially shocked at the news but expressed respect for Kellie's decision.
Today, Kellie joins the Boy's and explains her story in her own uncensored words honestly and openly, and we sincerely hope this interview may help others understand this complex subject in a n understanding way.
After the last few weeks of exceptional guests, the boys felt it was time to have a chat and update each other on all things health.
Patrick has a new diagnosis following some visits to a specialist Ear nose and throat consultant and the results of an MRI scan, to see what it all reveals.
Martin to has been for a scan and finds his Magnesium levels are way down, so he has some extra treatment on top of his Chemo this week.

A very special guest today, we welcome a friend of Patrick going back 12 years to their meeting in the Racing Scene.
Patrick met todays guest during his racing carer back in the day Pete Diamant a fellow competitor in the popular Mini Challenge national race series.
Pete was diagnosed in April 2021 with Stage 4 Renal (Kidney) cancer and started IppiNivo Immunotherapy some six weeks later.
Some later complications whilst receiving this treatment required further treatment and stays in hospital. In December 2023 Pete received the news a secondary cancer discovery had been made during his routine checkup.
Pete openly and honestly tells us his story form diagnosis to present day, this is truly a remarkable journey and whilst Pete has a positive mental attitude he omits this has been tested to the limit second time around.
Renal cancer, also known as Kidney cancer, is a group of cancers that starts in the kidney. Symptoms may include blood in the urine, a lump in the abdomen, or back pain. Fever, weight loss, and tiredness may also occur.
Early on, kidney masses do not typically cause any symptoms and are undetectable on physical examination. As kidney cancer becomes more advanced it classically results in blood in the urine, flank or back pain, and a mass. Other symptoms that are consistent with advanced disease include weight loss, fever, night sweats, palpable swollen lymph nodes in the neck, non-reducing varicocele, bone pain, continuous cough, and bilateral lower leg swelling.

It's already Episode 20 of Season 2 as we roll into winter 2024.
Again this week the boy's are lucky to have two Guests Bethany Keime and Charlie Kirkman, both have different heart conditions, Bathany and twin sister Hannah both suffer from Hypertropic Cardiomyopathy whilst Charlie has Arrhythmia.
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is a condition in which muscle tissues of the heart become thickened without an obvious cause. The parts of the heart most commonly affected are the interventricular septum and the ventricles.
This is is most often caused by abnormal genes in the heart muscle. These genes cause the walls of the heart chamber (left ventricle) to become thicker than normal. The thickened walls may become stiff and this can reduce the amount of blood taken in and pumped out to the body with each heartbeat.
How is hypertrophic cardiomyopathy treated?
Activity limits. ...
Preventing dehydration. ...
Medicines to treat shortness of breath and chest pain. ...
Medicines to help prevent abnormal heart rhythms. ...
Anticoagulants. ...
Septal myectomy. ...
Alcohol septal ablation. ...
Implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD).
An Arrhythmia, or irregular heartbeat, is a problem with the rhythm or rate of your heartbeat. Your heart may beat too quickly, too slowly, or with an irregular rhythm. It is normal for your heart rate to speed up during physical activity and to slow down while resting or sleeping but with Arrhythmia this can be irregular anytime.
While Arrhythmias can be a serious condition that can affect your health, there are also treatments available to help. By following a treatment plan and making heart healthy lifestyle changes, you can learn how to live with a cardiac arrhythmia.
In today's Interview Bethany & Charlie tell us openly and honestly about their conditions from diagnosis to how the deal with it today and in everyday life.
Bethany & sister Hannah are two remarkable twins who have taken this illness head on and realised there are others like themselves undiagnosed. Their experience as young teenagers soon discovered there was little information available and resorted to Google to explore their condition.
Social Media Patient Community did not exist, so Bethany & Hannah set about correcting this by starting their own Social media presence "Heart Charged" in hope to reach out to those with this condition and those still to be diagnosed.
They made us aware that as young women it was hard to get healthcare professionals to take them seriously with their health issues, simply sidelining them and saying "It's all part of growing up as a young Women" It wasn't until a member of the family discovered they had hypertrophic cardiomyopathy that both Bethany & Hannah were then checked for this Condition.
These young women have gone from strength to strength and this is how they met Charlie through Their social media connections and recent success with the "Sudden Cardiac Art" Exhibition in the UK, now destined for Southern California.
Today the boys have another special guest Federico Barbarossa who is hoping to make a documentary on Homophobia especially in the popular seaside town of Brighton England.
Using his personal experiences Federico is hoping to pitch his documentary to mainstream TV here in the UK, having already recorded many interviews with friends, special guest and local business owners.
We address today Homophobia in Brighton and generally in our communities and are surprised how this seems to be on the increase mainly down to social media.
What is the official definition of homophobia?
The homophobia definition is the fear, hatred, discomfort with, or mistrust of people who are lesbian, gay, or bisexual.
Homophobia, like most phobias, is distinguished by an irrational fear of gay people or gay behavior. Gays have fought long and hard for the rights we have had recognised under our Constitution...but make no mistake about it.... homophobia and anti-gay attitudes are alive and well across our land and around the world.
Coined by George Weinberg, a psychologist, in the 1960s, the term homophobia is a blend of (1) the word homosexual, itself a mix of neo-classical morphemes, and (2) phobia from the Greek φόβος, phóbos, meaning "fear", "morbid fear" or "aversion". Weinberg is credited as the first person to have used the term in speech.

Well as the boy's move into an exciting new year and today we are very luck to have special guest Jim Bunch.
Jim Bunch joins us today and tells us all about his battle with Cancer, diagnosis, treatment and major surgery which has left Jim with a Stoma bag.
Jim has kindly agreed to tell us today all about his experiences, his day to day life and the changes he's had to make with his new Stoma bag.
A stoma bag is a bag that collects waste from a stoma, which is an opening in the abdominal wall that connects the bowel to the surface of the body. A stoma can be created for a number of reasons, including bowel cancer, bladder cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulitis, or an obstruction in the bladder or bowel.
Adjusting to a colostomy can be difficult, but it does not mean you cannot enjoy a full and active life. Colostomy equipment is discreet and secure, and you should be able to do most of the activities you enjoyed before.
Award winning BBC presenter, Adele Roberts, didn't let her stoma bag slow her down after bowel cancer surgery.
We thank Jim today as his story I'm sure will help and inspire other's especially those who are about to go through a similar scenario.
Well January and February slots are getting full with some exciting guests so Martin & Patrick thought they would fit in one with themselves.
The Boy's are on the road again and this episode has been recorded in their hotel room in Aylesbury the night prior to an interview with another exciting celebrity guest.
Onto todays episode, the boys bring us up to date with their respective illnesses Heart Disease and Stage 4 lung Cancer.
Cancer is a large group of diseases that can start in almost any organ or tissue of the body when abnormal cells grow uncontrollably, go beyond their usual boundaries to invade adjoining parts of the body and/or spread to other organs.
Coronary heart disease occurs when the flow of oxygen-rich blood to the heart muscle is blocked or reduced. This puts an increased strain on the heart, and can lead to: angina – chest pain caused by restricted blood flow to the heart muscle. heart attacks – where the blood flow to the heart muscle is suddenly blocked.
Some interesting facts about the two illnesses and a discussion around these facts.
Martin has been looking at his own security online, and thus discusses Scammers and how to be safe online and deal with emails or telephone calls that don't seem right. Some tips on passwords and what to look out for online.
Finally we do get a chance for "Martins Joke of the week" it's quite a long one this time but please stick with it.

Another celebrity guest today as the boys sit down with the wonderful Lee Mack.
Lee Gordon McKillop was born 4 August 1968, known by his stage name Lee Mack, is an English comedian and actor and all round entertainer.
Another great interview with Lee where he is honest and and open and gives us a few exclusives about his life, his work and his close friendship with Sean lock and of course Bobby Ball.
Lee was born in Southport, Lancashire. He lived above a pub until he was 12, when his parents separated. He went to Birkdale Primary Junior School, Stanley High School in Southport, and Everton High School in Blackburn.
After leaving school, Lee worked in a bingo hall and as a stable boy. After working at the stable of racehorse trainer Ginger McCain in Southport for three days, he asked if he could ride one of the horses, to which the trainer agreed. Without realising, Lee then chose Red Rum as the first horse he would ride.
Lee then became a Bluecoat entertainer at Pontin's holiday resort at Hemsby in Norfolk.
Lee went on to have various other jobs, and performed his first "open mic" slot in 1994, while studying at Brunel University, from where he graduated with a degree in drama Within 18 months he was a full-time comedian.
We are firmly in the new year of 2025 and today the boys have another special guest Sue Hughes.
Sue is a specialist in the plant based wonder treatment successfully used all around the world Aloe vera.
Aloe vera is a succulent plant of the Genus Aloe.
It is widely distributed, and is considered an invasive species in many world regions. An evergreen perennial, it originates from the Arabian Peninsula, but also grows wild in tropical, semi-tropical, and arid climates around the world.
It is cultivated for commercial products, mainly as a topical treatment used over centuries. The species is considered attractive for decorative purposes, and is often found indoors as a potted plant. The leaves of Aloe vera contain significant amounts of the polysaccharide gel acemannan, which can be used for topical purposes. Aloe skin contains aloin which is toxic. Products made from Aloe vera usually only use the gel and NOT the skin.
There are many products containing aloe vera's acemannan, including skin lotions, cosmetics, ointments and gels for minor burns, skin abrasions, insect bites, and windburn and now a drink which can be consumed.
Oral ingestion of aloe vera extracts which include the skin can be dangerous, because it causes reactions which are not yet fully understood. It is especially dangerous for pregnant women. Some people have allergic reactions, even when the aloe vera is applied only to the skin.
The genus name Aloe is derived from the Arabic word Alloeh, meaning "bitter and shiny substance" or from Hebrew ahalim, plural of Ahal. The specific epithet vera comes from verus meaning "true" in Latin.
The boys are out on their travels again but this time they are visiting a Centre set up for people battling Parkinson's Disease through a Boxercise session.
Parkinson's disease is a progressive brain condition that affects movement, balance, and coordination. It's caused by the death of nerve cells in the brain, which leads to symptoms that can worsen over time.
After years of progress, a disease that was once considered untreatable has come to show promising advancements when placed in the right hands of Movement Disorders specialists. Equipped with the right tools and an increased understanding, specialists now have the power to vastly improve the quality of life for the patients affected.
Dopamine plays a vital role in regulating the movement of the body. A reduction in dopamine is responsible for many of the symptoms of Parkinson's disease. Exactly what causes the loss of nerve cells is unclear. Most experts think that a combination of genetic and environmental factors is responsible.
Today the boys have the opportunity to speak with Head coach Ivan Ambrose about the valuable boxercise sessions he provides for people with Parkinson's Disease and the impact it has on their lives.
The Boy's also speak to two participants of the class today, Lisa and David who both have differing levels of Parkinson's disease, they tell us about their illness, their coping mechanisms and what the Boxercise class means to them.
This was an eye opening experience for both Martin & Patrick and certainly reinforces how exercise in any form can help illness and just as importantly the mind helping to have a positive mental attitude.
Another special guest today Tom Richard who has Hirschsprung's Disease and runs his own Podcast called "The Hirschsprung's hour with Tom Richard" and can be found on all Podcast platforms.
Today Tom tells us all about Hirschsprung's Disease, he was diagnosed with as a newborn baby, and how it nearly took his life.
Tom's tells us openly and honestly his story, his life growing up with this disease, how he managers it today, what the future holds and how he has turned into a positive within his life through his Podcast connecting across the world with others who have this disease.
What causes Hirschsprung's Disease muscles of the bowel are controlled by nerve cells called ganglion cells. In Hirschsprung's disease, ganglion cells are missing from a section at the end of bowel, extending up from the anus (the opening in the bottom that poo passes through).
For some reason, the cells did not develop in that area when the baby was growing in the womb.
It's not clear why this happens, but it's not thought to be caused by anything the mother did while she was pregnant.
A number of genes are associated with Hirschsprung's disease and it does sometimes run in families.
If you have had a child with it before, you're more likely to have another child with it.
We are well and truly into spring here in the United kingdom, as the sun shines outside Martin & Patrick have another special guest Dominic Shadbolt.
Dominic has Multiple sclerosis (MS) and is soon to embark on an extraordinary journey across Canada of some 8,000 KM / 5,000 Miles to raise awareness and money for MS Brain Health initiatives.
A coast-to-coast cycling expedition across Canada with the ambitious goal of raising $1 million. This epic ride symbolises resilience, determination, and the power of community, aiming to transform the lives of people living with Multiple Sclerosis and to demonstrate anything is possible with a positive mental attitude.
Dominic tells us about his diagnosis with Multiple sclerosis (MS) at the early age of 28, how he deals with this illness day today and his future going forward.
This remarkable challenge will commence in Hallifax, Canada on the 1st May this year 2025 and will see Dominic Cycle on his A modified I.C.E. Sprint X modified recumbent cycle solo and un-aided 8,000km to Vancouver on the West Coast, dipping his toe in the water both sides at start and finish.
You can check you Dominic's progress and donate to his fundraising event by visiting his website below where more detailed information can be found.
https://www.rc4ms.org/
Dominic also has his own Youtube channel where you can find out more about both Multiple sclerosis (MS) and his challenge ahead.
Multiple sclerosis is a disease that causes breakdown of the protective covering of nerves. Multiple sclerosis can cause numbness, weakness, trouble walking, vision changes and other symptoms. It's also known as MS. In MS, the immune system attacks the protective sheath that covers nerve fibers, known as myelin.
It's been a while since the boy's Martin & Patrick had a chat and a catch up, so this episode they've decided to do just that.
As we are all aware Martin got the bad news in August last year that his Cancer had spread and he would have to face another 6 rounds of Chemo during the winter and over Christmas.
With this round of treatment now complete it was time to visit the Cancer clinic and have a scan to see if the treatment had been successful, with the scan now complete and the results in hand following a meeting with his Oncologist Dr P, Martin shares this story and his results today.
It's been a busy month with the results, and other doctors and clinic appointments Martin spills the beans on these along with a a mishap or too along the way.
From Poo samples to Asthma to Diabete's this Podcast really has it all, there is even room for the return of "Martin's Joke of the week"
Today the boy's are back out on the road talking to their guests Wes Cardy and his very good friend Jan. Wes and Jan are in a singing group called "Cardy and Coke" and have been very successful over the years singing and writing songs for themselves and celebrities Ken Dodd and Daniel O'donnell.
Wes was born during the second world war and was fathered by an American over here in the UK as a serviceman, working at the local airfield of Wormingford.
For 50 years Wes has been trying to trace his long lost father who had returned to the United States in the 1940's but it wasn't until his very good friend and singing partner Jan gave Wes a DNA testing kit for his birthday.
Wes and Jan tells us the whole story and the remarkable events that took place following this life changing gift, they discuss the DNA story and how this is available for everyone trying to trace long lost family and those building their own family tree.
This is a remarkable story and we thank Wes and Jan for sharing this very personal journey with us all today.
DNA, or deoxyribonucleic acid, is the molecule that carries the genetic instructions for the development, functioning, growth, & reproduction of all known organisms including many viruses. It's a double-stranded helix, often visualised as a twisted ladder, with the rungs made of paired base molecules (adenine, thymine, guanine, and cytosine).
Its a chance for the boy's to get together again today and have a chat.
Although Martin gave us an update on his Cancer this week we delve into his current treatment "Immunotherapy" and its possible side effects.
Immunotherapy uses our immune system to fight cancer. It works by helping the immune system recognise and attack cancer cells.
You might have immunotherapy on its own or with other cancer treatments. Immunotherapy is a standard treatment for some types of cancer. And it is in clinical trials for other types of cancer.
There are different types of immunotherapy. We have information about the following types of immunotherapies:
monoclonal antibodies (mAbs)
checkpoint inhibitors
vaccines
cytokines
CAR T-cell therapy
Some types of immunotherapies are also called targeted treatments or biological therapies.
The boy's also talk about the touchy subject of Piles (Hemorrhoids) rhyming cockney slang "Farmer Giles" Piles, discussing diagnosis, causes and treatments.
Hemorrhoids (HEM-uh-roids), also called piles, are swollen veins in the anus and lower rectum. Hemorrhoids are similar to varicose veins. Hemorrhoids can develop inside the rectum, called internal hemorrhoids. They also can develop under the skin around the anus, called external hemorrhoids
There is also a chance for Martins Joke of the week
And don't forget if you live in the UK don't forget to put your clocks forward on Saturday night.
It's British summertime at long last and what a great week this has been for sunshine.
Today we have another special guest Jessica Baker who suffers from an Eating Disorder, Jessica now in her mid fifties has been struggling with this since she was nine years old.
Jessica tells us open and honestly how she has coped with this eating disorder over the years telling us her highs and lows, yo-yoing with her weight made it difficult at times to cope with her appearance, and how she felt inside.
Jessica is still today struggling with her illness today but does have the benefit of a very strong will and has come to terms with her illness and learnt how to manage her illness by understanding the situation she finds herself in.
Listen to this remarkable storey and learn sometimes what you see on the outside is very different sometimes to what is going on the inside of a person.
There are several types of eating disorders. The most common are anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, avoidant restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) and other specified feeding and eating disorder (OSFED).
Behavioral symptoms of eating disorders may include:
Restrictive eating.
Eating a lot in a short amount of time.
Avoiding food or certain foods.
Forced vomiting after meals or laxative misuse.
Compulsive exercising after meals.
Frequent bathroom breaks after eating.
Withdrawing from friends or social activities.
Trauma, anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder and other mental health issues can increase the likelihood of an eating disorder. Dieting and starvation. Frequent dieting is a risk factor for an eating disorder, especially with weight that is constantly going up and down when getting on and off new diets.
Help and details for those suffering with eating disorders can found by visiting the website Beat (formerly Eating Disorders Association)

The FCN are involved in a UK-wide partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support which is helping to improve the support available to those living with cancer in farming communities and rural areas.
As part of this partnership FCN is working closely with Macmillan Cancer Support, including raising awareness in rural communities of the signs and symptoms of cancer and building referral bridges to and from Macmillan’s services.
Farmers, farm workers and people living in rural communities can have lower access to cancer services and support due to the nature of their work and rural life in often isolated areas.
Farmers can be particularly at-risk of certain types of cancer – such as skin cancer, prostate cancer, or cancers caused by exposure to carcinogens.
Cancer can impact a family business that may employ many people and can have significant impacts on an individual and their families – including their housing and extended family situation, or immediate welfare issues for livestock.
FCN can be contacted in confidence on 03000 111 999, 7am-11pm, 365 days of the year. Speak to an empathetic volunteer who understands farming life.
The Macmillan Support Line is available on 0808 808 00 00, seven days a week, 8am to 8pm.
Further information about cancer and support available is available on FCN’s FarmWell website
