04 Jan 2019Who's He? Podcast #319 Gotta install microwave ovens01:17:40

In this, the first podcast of 2019, Phil and Paul tackle this years (or last years if you're Phil) New Years Day special, Resolution. And of course the worlds worst kept secret came true as we saw the return of the Daleks! But was everyone happy with this special? Was it indeed a special or the actual last episode of series 11?

Listen find out what the lads thought and of course what our listeners thought in our listener feedback section.

In the news, we say goodbye to June Whitfield and Bill Sellars, there is missing episode audio news, Omega's Stats Corner and finally some news about the Who's He? Podcast!

09 Feb 2014Who's He? Podcast #150 So sick of complacence now00:48:00

It's audio commentary time yet again and this week it's part 2 of our commentary for The Krotons, the fondly remembered fan favourite (I mean the story, not part 1 of this commentary.  That was last week by the way.) that nobody really remembers very fondly.  So this week they continue with episodes 3 and 4 and struggle manfully with walking cheese graters with Brummie accents and a man dressed as a tortoise.  No that wasn't one of Tony's "facts", that it is what they are watching.  So tune in to listen to 3 grown men sitting in silence for long periods of time and only coming alive when something exciting happens or when they get a sniff of beer.

And there's no news this week as they couldn't be bothered. No not really, not a lot happened to be honest.

10 Jun 2012Who's He? Podcast #065 We dress up in disguise00:46:27

This week Phil and Paul take a look back at the Agatha Christie murder mystery romp The Unicorn And The Wasp. This is an episode that neither Paul nor Phil were particuarly interested in watching again even though fandom would tell them this is a good story. Has time changed their minds? Will the comedic aspects of the script cheer them up or will they remain their usual miserable selves? (Well, Phil is the miserable one really).

Meanwhile, in the news this week, there was a gathering of five Doctors, an official photo was released of the Doctor and his new companion, Bill Nighy reveals that he didn't want the role of the Doctor and a fan poll reveals their favourite Doctor Who monster EVER!!

02 Aug 2015Who's He? Podcast #212 Heaven send hell away00:43:49

Live from London, the Who's He? Podcast team of Phil & Paul who both live in London, return to their ongoing series 2 retrospective with a look at The Impossible Planet which doesn't take place in London. This is a classic of Who so do the lads both feel that this is still a classic or does the fact this story isn't set in London hurt it somewhat? They also wander off topic and start discussing Disney's The Black Hole and both marvel at the wonderful London accents used by the actors.

And in the news this week, a Doctor Who 3D film event that disgustingly won't be shown in London and BARB will take into account online viewing figures, especially those in London.

Visit London.

The News

Exciting news for fans of missing episode animations as it's announced that Fury From The Deep will be animated and released in 2020, the blu-ray edition of Season 12 will be getting a re-release and we say goodbye to actor Stephen Moore who sadly passed away.

Omega's Tat Corner

There's scarf and Build a Bear tat this time but most importantly some Christmas tat in the form of a Cyberman nutcracker!

Review - The Sinestran Kill

This month, Phil and Paul look at The Sinestran Kill from Big Finish. In a tale of witness protection, 1970's policing and London gangsters, this story also introduces a new companion for the 4th Doctor which seems to put a spring in Tom Bakers step!

24 Nov 2015Who's He? Podcast #225 We never realise until we're dead00:58:25

On this weeks show, Phil and Paul decide to look at the beady eye of an evil member of the crow family and Face The Raven! Yes, this is the big one folks, Clara Oswald has left the building! Or has she? Join Phil and Paul in the podcasting equivalent of a trap street and listen to them ponder over the merits of Ashildr's plan to entice the Doctor into her web of deceit and was this a good exit for Jenna Coleman and will she back?

And in the news this week, extended run times for Heaven Sent and Hell Bent, a possible R1 DVD release for The Underwater Menace and of course, stats.

All this plus listener feedback!

24 Oct 2011Who's He? Podcast #033 I see her face and run to take her hand01:03:25

Now that there is no more new Doctor Who, the lads go back to their series 5 retrospective with The Time Of Angels. Nothing can be found wrong with this story as both Phil and Paul enjoyed revisiting this episode and both wax lyrical as to how great it is. Shame about the news section though. In another slow news week, they start off well with the Matt Smith leaving rumours and then end up shamelessly padding things out by talking about Jon Pertwee whilst on a trip down Doctor Who memory lane. All together now, "Memories....like the corners of my mind...."

07 Oct 2012Who's He? Podcast #079 Blue light on the avenue01:10:39

After a two week break the podcast that no-one listens to makes its triumphant return with a review of The Angels Take Manhattan.  What will Paul and Phil make of the Ponds departure from Doctor Who?  Do they think series 7a finished with a bang or a whimper?  Is Phil still a miserable old sod or has he cheered up over the last 14 days? (NO!)  Will Paul try to temper Phil's wild conspiracy theories? (YES!)

And in the news this week, and Australian MP wants Doctor Who to flim down under, news from the Recon event and Omega's Tat Corner rears its ugly head once more!

03 Sep 2014Who's He? Podcast #172 Cause I'm in need of some restraint00:49:46

The Doctors arch nemesis is back in episode 2 of series 8, Into The Dalek.  Does this story add anything new to the Dalek mythos and does it make the nations favourite bad guys bad again or reduced to fairground ride status?  Join Phil and Paul as they dissect this story from the returning pen of Phil Ford (and Steven Moffat) and look inside a good Dalek.  Or a bad Dalek, a shy Dalek, a coy Dalek, an embarrassed Dalek, a coquettish Dalek, a romantic Dalek....(alright, get on with it!)

And in the news, the sad passing of Bill Kerr which leads Paul and Phil to reminisce about the golden age of British radio comedy and yep, you guessed it, more stats!!

01 Oct 2014Who's He? Podcast #176 It was against the law00:59:20

This week and with some trepidation, the Who's He? Podcast reviewing duo take a look at The Caretaker, episode 6 of series 8 of Doctor Who. But why the trepidation? Well, Phil is not exactly Gareth Roberts biggest fan, so his usually well balanced (ahem) critique is under scrutiny, while Paul is much more reserved and ponders over the plot and wonders whether the alien of the week needed to be there at all? And Phil gets caught off guard by being pleasantly surprised not once but twice!

And in the news, the sad loss of Maggie Stables, more stats than you can handle, more DVD news and in Omega's Tat Corner it's rare tat time and quite possibly the most expensive and biggest item of tat ever!

Scott joins Phil this week to comment on Dot and Bubble, the next in our series of audio commentaries for the last season of Doctor Who, starring Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson.

14 Aug 2011Who's He? Podcast #020 Fire, to end all you've become00:50:16

A stunned and mostly silent Paul and Phil are back with their views on Torchwood: Miracle Day episode 5. The reason they are stunned and silent (well, to begin with) is that they both enjoyed this episode. Who'd have thought it possible!! However, whilst discussing how Oswald Danes character is fitting into the story, it gives Phil a chance to rant against the cult of celebrity and Paul a chance to come up with a tagline for the podcast. Oh and Paul forgets how to talk and Phil comes up with a solution to his predicament.

12 Sep 2011Who's He? Podcast #026 Make each hour bright and bring your gladness00:43:46

In the second of this weeks podcasts, Phil and Paul cast their eye over episode 9 of Torchwood: Miracle Day. Will Phil ever really enjoy this series or is he destined to spend the remainder of this days a bitter and twisted individual planning ways to get the hours back that he spent watching this? Will Paul ever lose his composure or will he remain calm, collected and continue to enjoy this series of Torchwood not matter what it's faults may be? Tune in to this episode to find out!

The Seeds of Doom Review - Redacted

In this bonus episode of the Who's He? Podcast, they have been forced to release a redacted version of their review of The Seeds of Doom due to an ongoing investigation into Phil and Pauls conduct during the recording of this episode.

The full episode will be released in due course.

21 Jul 2013Who's He? Podcast #117 Feel the forces from another world00:57:48

This week Phil and Paul return to the Destiny of The Doctor audio series with a review of the seventh Doctor story Shockwave.  In fact this has to be one of their shortest reviews they've ever done!  This usually means one of two things - they both hated it or they both loved it!

But what takes up all their time this week?  Two weeks worth of news and a chat about the Doctor Who Prom they went to last week that's what!  DVD blu-ray boxsets, BBC financial reports and comments made about the 50th Anniversary Special the Moff himself.  But not only that, there is a bumper edition of Omega's Tat Corner featuring cake and potato based tat!

09 Jul 2023Who's He? Podcast 424 | Doctor Who - The Anniversary Specials | The Three Doctors00:41:16

In this episode of the Who's He? Podcast....

Doctor Who | The Anniversary Specials | The Three Doctors

As 2023 is the year of Doctor Who's 60th Anniversary, join Phil and a returning Scott as they chat about the first of the Doctor Who Anniversary Specials, The Three Doctors.

Starring Jon Pertwee, Patrick Troughton and William Hartnell, energy emanating from a black hole targets UNIT headquarters searching for the 3rd Doctor. With this energy also threatening the Time Lords and the universe itself, the Time Lords send the 1st and 2nd Doctors to assist and discover the threat is from Omega, a long thought dead Time Lord who now exists in an anti-matter realm and is now hell bent on revenge.

During their discussion, Scott raises the subject of what happened to the Brigadier in this story and his dislike of CSO, before going off on a tangent on animated stories and Phil gives thanks to this story for contributing to the Who's He? Podcast.

07 Dec 2021Doctor Who: Who's He? Podcast #382 It puts migraines in our noggins - The Vanquishers Review01:08:16

In this episode of the Who's He? Podcast....

Review - The Vanquishers

So here we are folks, we've come to the end of Doctor Who: Flux, Chapter 6, The Vanquishers. But did it tie up all those plot threads? Well, both Phil and Paul are a bit confused with this one and resort to saying "I don't know" one heck of a lot! Phil also takes Paul down the rabbit hole of whether Doctor Who should be catering to fandom with shipping of the Doctor and companion and more or less reach the conclusion they are both too old this s**t!

Omega's Feedback Corner

Scott reads out listener feedback for this last time this year!

Omega's Stats Corner

Also for this last time year the lads bring you the latest in stats news without a hint of apology.

20 Jul 2011Who's He? Podcast #015 In the game of life, everything is possible01:01:11

After thinking they would never get this done, the reviewing duo of Paul and Phil finally get round to airing their views on episode 1 of Torchwood: Miracle Day. Were they disappointed? Did it live up to Children Of Earth? Did it have the cleaning power of bleach? All these questions are answered inside this weeks episode of the Who's He? Podcast!

29 Mar 2015Who's He? Podcast #199 There they laid side by side01:15:55

In this weeks show, Phil, Paul and Tony continue with their commentary for The Gunfighters with episodes 3 & 4. And yet again they struggle to get through another 2 episodes of barely concealed English accents but they do bring you facts from the day of the original broadcast to liven things up and stop themselves dying from boredom.

And in a replacement for the news, Phil and Paul take the opportunity to look back 26th March 2005 when Rose was broadcast in a small celebration of the 10th anniversary of Doctor Who returning to our screens.

04 May 2014Who's He? Podcast #159 The mate that fate had me created for00:41:36

In this edition of the Who's He? Podcast, Phil and Paul return once again to the literary world with a review of the Target novelisation of The Image of The Fendahl.  Probably one of the last great gothic horror Doctor Who stories produced in the 1970's, the lads compare the novel to the TV incarnation and discuss the merits of Terrance Dicks expanding of characters and also whether some of the more notorious aspects of this story make to the page.

And in another slow news week, 2 more writers are announced for series 8, Doctor Who picks up 2 BAFTA's in ceremony that is held in a pub (or so Phil and Paul like to think) and in Omega's Tat Corner, 2 items of tat, one of which gets Phil excited.

30 Oct 2018Who's He? Podcast #312 Here it comes crawling up the chain01:04:38

This week Phil and not so much Paul sit on their chairs with their feet up off the floor in terror to look at episode 4 of Doctor Who, Arachnids in the UK. So after 3 pretty solid episodes, does this story make it 4 out of 4 for our reviewing duo or does it get flushed down the sink like all spiders should (according to Phil that is)?

And in the news this week we say goodbye to ex Doctor Who producer Derrick Sherwin, there's stats in Omega's Stats Corner and there is tat of the sweetie kind in Omega's Tat Corner that causes Phil and Paul to become confused.

20 Oct 2013Who's He? Podcast #134 Just as every cop is a criminal01:08:40

After an extremely long period, it's audio commentary time!  This go around, Phil, Paul and a returning Tony tackle The Daemons, episodes 1 & 2 in the first of a two part commentary.  And even after such a long time between commentaries, the three of them have learnt nothing.  It's still shambolic and they barely pay any attention to what they are watching as Tony unleashes his "facts" on Matthew Corbett and his contribution to the set design of The Daemons and thrill as they watch a U.N.I.T member phone a chat line.

And in a very slapdash news section this week, they cast their eyes over the 50th Anniversary trailer shown on Saturday night, Moffat's teasing over the amount of regenerations, what really happened with that casting rumour on Ben Daniels, some 50th Anniversary cocktails and in Omega's Tat Corner there is one helluva lot of mintage.

13 Aug 2023Who's He? Podcast 430 | Scott's Short Reviews - Invasion of The Dinosaurs00:11:18

In this episode of the Who's He? Podcast....

Scott's Short Reviews - Invasion of The Dinosaurs

The Doctor and Sarah Jane arrive on Earth in the midst of the chaos and begin investigating the cause of temporal disturbances that make dinosaurs appear on the streets of London. They discover that a group of scientists, led by the renegade scientist Professor Whitaker, are behind the scheme. They are using a device called the "time reversal" to bring dinosaurs to the present day, with the intention of "cleansing" the Earth by erasing the technological advancements that they believe have led to its decline.

Join a very tired Scott as he takes a video diary approach to reviewing this story and what will he make of those dinosaurs?

13 Sep 2016Who's He? Podcast #249 Think of me and I'll be there01:00:36

In this edition of the Who's He? Podcast, Phil and Paul review Seasons of Fear from Big Finish. This 8th Doctor story featuring Paul McGann and India Fisher as Charlie Pollard sees the Doctor chasing a foe through the history of Britain who is working for an old foe. Now, while the returning foe is revealed in their spoilerific review, Paul recounts how Phil ruined the reveal for him with a simple text message!

And in the news, Phil and Paul catch up with what has been happening and it's quite a bit actually! Peter Capaldi gives away when Doctor Who will return to our screens next year, Power of The Daleks has been animated, when Class will be airing on BBC3 and Christopher Eccleston regretting not doing a 2nd series.

And breathe!

01 May 2011Who's He? Podcast #003 Reducing the silence01:07:20

Just for a change, a Tony-less Who's He? team review the quite brilliant opening two episodes of series 6, The Impossible Astronaut and The Day Of The Moon and also pay tribute to Elisabeth Sladen who sadly passed away after recording our 2nd show.

Not only that but Phil takes issue with fans who make theories about character developments whilst ignoring all the facts and Paul struggles with a football injury!

24 May 2015Who's He? Podcast #205 They say she comes on a pale horse00:38:48

This weeks episode of the Who's He? Podcast starts off strangely as Paul is off out and about and it's left down to Phil to present the quickest news section ever for this podcast. And all he can talk about is whinging Doctor Who fans angry at the news that Steven Moffat has signed up for series 10 and talk of the 12th Doctor fancying Clara in series 9. But let's face it, Phil loves talking about whinging fans.

But once the news is out of the way, it's down to business and Phil and a returning Paul discuss Master, the 3rd in the 40th Anniversary trilogy from Big Finish in 2003.  So after enjoying Davros last time, will this be 2 out of 3 for enjoyment or will this join Omega in the not great category? But in a tale of lost memories, spooky houses, serial killers and Death itself, what's not to enjoy? Tune in to find out!

25 Nov 2012Who's He? Podcast #085 I understand your changes01:28:42

After leaving you all on a cliff hanger last week, it's the return of Phil, Paul and Tony with part 2 of their audio commentary for Dalek Invasion of Earth!!  What's in store for you all this week?  Well folks, it's the same as last week, awful puns, Tony's facts and long bouts of silence.  However, this is all interspersed with a long ramble about Toffo's, recounting who's still alive from Are You Being Served and Tony manages to offend Hewlett Packard.

And in the news this week, extra dates for the Doctor Who Symphony Spectacular in Australia, Bonhams have plenty of Who related memorabilia up for auction, audience figures for The Great Detective prologue and The Snowmen trailer, plus the return of Omega's Tat Corner with some overpriced rubbish!!

In this edition of the Who's He? Podcast.....

The News

In a very slow news week, the only thing of note is the release date for the animated version of The Faceless Ones.

Omega's Stats Corner

In the corner of stats this week, it's the overnights for Can You Hear Me? and the official figures for Praxeus which almost breaks Phil's spirit and takes them down a dangerous rabbit hole of why aren't more people watching the show?

Review - Can You Hear Me?

In another story with a strong social message and a weak sci-fi element, Phil and Paul ponder over the mental health message this week which leads Phil to make a confession and also whether the balance of sci-fi and social message is right for Doctor Who and is this is the way to carry on? Oh and Phil drops an F bomb!

23 Feb 2025Who's He? On The TV | Spike Milligan - Part 100:52:21

In this episode of the Who's He? Podcast....

Who's He? On The TV | Spike Milligan - Part 1

Phil is joined by Tyler Adams of Goonpod to talk about Phil's all time hero, Spike Milligan. In the first part of a two part conversation, Tyler and Phil chat about Spike's TV output from the 1950's through to the early 70's, even including Cucumber Castle starring The Bee Gees! Along the way, they discuss the perils of meeting your heroes and obsessive fans doing impressions.

04 Feb 2024Who's He? Podcast 449 | Death to the Daleks | Audio Commentary Part 100:54:25

In this episode of the Who's He? Podcast....

Death to the Daleks | Audio Commentary Part 1

After putting the vote to our listeners, Phil and Scott sat down to record part one of an audio commentary for Death to the Daleks starring Jon Pertwee as the Doctor with Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith. With the Doctor and Sarah Jane stranded on the planet Exxilon, they stumble across a grumpy Scotsman and a ships captain with an ill fitting wig. And to make matters worse the Daleks turn up as well!

Marvel as Phil tries (and fails) to explain to Scott how the Doctors companions were written in the 1970's, just before Sarah lamps an Exxilon round the lughole with a starting handle and how Phil used to play Doctor Who as a nipper. Oh and Scott does a swear.

Join Phil and Scott next week for part two of the commentary.

27 May 2012Who's He? Podcast #063 I was born as a pantomime horse01:56:37

Dim the lights, close all the windows and dust down your DVD players as it's audio commentary time! This month, Paul, Tony and Phil are tackling the behemoth that is Warriors Of The Deep. They've tried this one before and failed miserably, so they've deployed all sorts of lucky tokens about their persons to make sure this one goes off without a hitch. Even then it was still touch and go.

Also, in this weeks news, Steven Moffat want to keep the Doctors new companion a complete secret, a little bit of DVD news and the lads get angry at certain 'fans' reactions to the airing this week of the Blue Peter Script to Screen winners story, Good As Gold.  Now stop laughing at the Myrka, you know how fragile he is!

18 May 2014Who's He? Podcast #160 You're bored with me in every way00:31:19

This week Phil and Paul kick off another series retrospective with a look at New Earth from series 2 and the beginning of David Tennants first full series.  Listen to hear how Phil and Paul now feel about this story and whether this was good or bad series opener.  And also gasp in horror as Phil letches after Billie Piper for one episode only and Paul has an identity crisis of his own.

And in the news, some more casting news for series 8 which makes Phil fear for the return of men in extremely short shorts, a David Tennant celebration in the US and Peter Capaldi makes the front cover of the Radio Times.

26 Jun 2011Who's He? Podcast #012 I saw you in the Crown Court01:42:23

After quite a few false starts, the Who's He? trio managed to get their act together and bring you an audio commentary for the third Doctor story The Time Warrior.  Marvel as Phil and Paul set Tony a little quiz throughout the story and shake your heads in disappointment as they shamelessly plug breweries in the vain hope they will be sent a few crates of beer. All this plus Tony devises a system to remember actors names.

30 Mar 2016Who's He? Podcast #237 Grey mists drift upon the water01:30:28

In this episode of the Who's He? Podcast, Phil and Paul return once again to the written word of Target with a look at Doctor Who and The Loch Ness Monster by Terrance Dicks. Based on Terror of The Zygons, a classic of Doctor who, Phil and Paul critique the changes made between screen and book and does it also add up to be a classic in written form also?

Also this week, Phil talks to composer and DJ Dominic Glynn who most of you should know rearranged the Doctor Who theme for season 23. Amongst other things, Dominic talks of his time working on the show and who and what inspired him to become a composer. Don't miss it!

And in the news, Peter Capaldi on series 11, the passing of another Who actor and in Omega's Tat Corner, some tat that is strangely familiar.

05 Jul 2015Who's He? Podcast #209 Some in circles, some alone00:53:41

It's that time of year where Phil and Paul get Tony back on the podcast in a sweltering July day for an audio commentary and this time it's The Stones of Blood episodes 1 and 2.  And because it was so damn hot, they chose to not do any news this week and just crack on with proceedings. So queue lots of facts from the day of original episode broadcast, Tony gives an insight into Tom Bakers treatment of the working classes and this commentary also features lots of talk about sex toys.

22 Oct 2015Who's He? Podcast #221 Of how we calmed the tides of war01:08:41

In this weeks edition of the Who's He? Podcast, Phil and Paul cast their eye over The Girl Who Died, episode 5 of this series of Doctor Who. And after first 4 episodes of serious Who, this week we get a light hearted romp that has got fandom talking! So sit back and listen to Phil and Paul chat about this tale of Vikings mixed with Monty Python's Holy Grail by way of the A-Team!

Also in this weeks episode, Phil talks to author Lynn Hamilton about her book Mysteries Of Doctor Who: Mythos, Speculation and Continuity and how she became a fan of the show.

And in the news, good news for Sir John Hurt, the dreaded stats and in Omega's Tat Corner it's silver tat and a jumper that should come with a health warning.

15 Oct 2014Who's He? Podcast #178 Feel your heart may stop00:51:38

The Who's He? Podcast plough on with their review of series 8 of Doctor Who and this week it's the turn of Mummy On The Orient Express. After last weeks episode that divided fandom, is this a story that finds fandom reunited and more importantly do Phil and Paul show a united front also? Will Phil rant like he did last week or is it Paul's turn? One thing is for sure, they have longer than 66 seconds to decide! But the prog rock dinosaurs that they are, they still can't figure out just who Foxes is.

And in an incredibly quiet news week, they can only bring you stats!!

28 Mar 2017Who's He? Podcast #263 Companion Special - Ace01:03:41

In this Who's He? Companion Special, Phil chats to podcaster, designer and media maverick Ash Farbrother (he told us to write that) about his favourite companion - Dorothy McShane, better known as Ace.

Also, they also talk about Ash's other obessions - horror films and wrestling!

In this episode of the Who's He? Podcast....

Horror of Fang Rock - Review

This episode Phil and Scott settled down to watch the new and shiny version of Horror of Fang Rock from the recent Season 15 blu-ray collection. New effects, screaming ladies and plenty of fog is the order of the day with Tom Baker and Louise Jameson on fine form.

They also go through the number of changes made to the special effects (spoilers ahoy!) and Phil takes Scott through a quick potted history of producer Graham Williams and touches upon how awkward Tom Baker was towards him.

But what's this? The BBC also release a new trailer for the upcoming series of Doctor Who, along with all 8 episode titles. Of course, the lads talk about that as well.

It's a return to our series 3 retrospective with a look at The Shakespeare Code.  However, this week there is a change in the presenting line up as Phil is joined by the excellent Martyn Havell from the Bad Wilf Podcast who makes a long overdue return to the show.  So how does this historical story hold up after all this time?  Is it more Kenneth Brannagh's Hamlet or more Jet Li's Romeo Must Die?  Find out what they think and as a bonus you will also discover that Chevy Chase is God and Haircut 100 rule!!

And in a very slow news week, 50th Anniversary rumours are dashed, an announcement of Puffin Books contribution to the Doctor's 50th and more stats!

24 Dec 2022Doctor Who: Who's He? Podcast #411 Christmas Special00:35:06

In this episode of the Who's He? Podcast....

The News

Phil & Scott's Favourite Christmas Specials

For this years Christmas podcast, Phil and Scott select their favourite Doctor Who Christmas Special. After much mulling over and research (yeah, right!) Scott goes for The Christmas Invasion from 2005 and forgets to put his teeth in and Phil selects the 2012 Christmas special The Snowmen and discusses why the Victorian era Clara Oswald would have made a better companion than modern era Clara!

We would like to wish all of our listeners a very Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!

06 Apr 2014Who's He? Podcast #156 A lead role in a cage?00:38:33

On this weeks show Phil and Paul return once again to the literary world of Doctor Who with a look at the Target novelisation Doctor Who and The Space War, otherwise known as Frontier in Space. Yes, a story of two mighty empires on the brink of war and how the Doctor and Jo manage to miss all that by testing a number of different prison cells.  And also during the course of their discussion, they lament the BBC budget in replacing a mighty lizard with a gentlemens scrotal sack.

And in the news this week, the sad passing of Derek Martinus and Kate O'Mara, casting news for series 8 and in Omega's Tat Corner it's time for some sexist footwear!

25 Mar 2012Who's He? Podcast #054 So satisfied I'm on my way00:50:28

Live from Cardiff, it's the Who's He? Podcast's coverage of the official Doctor Who Convention!! Well, ok, it's not live but in Cardiff they were and Phil & Paul attempt to give you a flavour of what it was like to be at the BBC's first stab at a convention since the 1980's. Was it any good? Did they have a good time? Was it worth the £99 ticket price? All these questions are answered in this weeks episode but not only that, Phil & Paul both realise a childhood dream.

And there's also this weeks important news of the announcement of the Doctors new companion, when we can say goodbye to Rory and Amy and some old foes of the Doctor make a return in Series 7.

05 Jul 2017Who's He? Podcast #276 Even the hero gets a bullet in the chest01:12:42

This is it folks, the last in this series of Doctor Who and Peter Capaldi's penultimate story before he bows out at Christmas, The Doctor Falls. After the fantastic World Enough and Time, does this story provide a satisfactory conclusion to the final story and the series itself? Well, Paul and Phil certainly wax lyrical about Capaldi, Mackie and Lucas and whether the Master and Missy meeting really added up to much and they also discuss THAT ending and what possibly could happen on Christmas Day?

There is also listener feedback and also one final trip to Omega's Stats Corner.

In this episode of the Who's He? Podcast....

Review - Wild Blue Yonder

We've reached the middle episode of the Doctor Who 60th Anniversary specials and the lads are divided!  Phil initally thought he watched the worst ever episode of Doctor Who, while Paul enjoyed it!  But after a second watch, did either of them change their mind?  And how may salt and mavity effect what it is to come?  But while they may be undecided, one thing they could agree on was the final appearance of the mighty Bernard Cribbins.

In this episode of the Who's He? Podcast....

Welcome the Third Doctor - Spearhead From Space

Phil & Scott continue their series of looking at how good how each Doctor's inaugral stories were at introducing them to the waiting world, with Spearhead From Space, starring Jon Pertwee. Ushering in a new era of colour, action and flamboyant clothes, did this story from Robert Holmes succeed in introducing a new and different kind of Doctor. Along the way, Phil tells a horror story of childhood underpants.

23 Nov 2014Who's He? Podcast #184 What I do ain't make believe01:09:22

In this episode of the Who's He? Podcast we celebrate the 51st anniversary of Doctor Who as the BBC couldn't be bothered. And to celebrate, Phil and Paul go back to their Target novelisation reviews with a look at the 1st anniversary special The Three Doctors. As they look over this classic story, they ponder over certain famous quotes missing from the book version and Phil delves back into his past and gives an insight to his more violent side.

And in the news, Peter Capaldi reveals he once turned down the role of a lifetime and what he would like for the TARDIS, Bernard Cribbins receives a J.M. Barrie award and in Omega's Tat Corner, some festive tat and some rip off tat that you would need to take a payday loan out for.

17 May 2015Who's He? Podcast #204 Into the valley of steel00:48:25

Once again it's time to for Phil and Paul to return to series 2 with their ongoing retrospective and The Age Of Steel. But after a few weeks of happiness, the podcast comes down to earth with a bump as while they find this is quite enjoyable, there is a lot wrong with it, especially for Phil who wears his grumpy face throughout this episode, with talk of Cybermen that can tip-toe and what was the point of Cybus anyway?

And Phil also keeps his grumpy face on during the news whilst talking about the return of Osgood in series 9 but gets a lot happier towards the end with the news that Doctor Who will be making an appearance in an upcoming LEGO video game.

01 Jun 2014Who's He? Podcast #162 Not a servant so faithful he found00:38:19

In this weeks episode, Phil and Paul review the extremely spooky The Chimes Of Midnight from Big Finish.  And please beware this week that this episode is jam packed full of spoilers!  Yep, Phil couldn't help himself and ruins the plot of this Paul McGann story but gets so carried away, he ruins Christmas and Easter for children everywhere into the bargain.  Also along the way Paul helps Phil out with plot and puts forward a plausible theory for a certain plot point!

And in the news this week, Doctor Who comes to Retro TV in the USA, a piece of series 8 casting news that has both Paul and Phil scratching their heads and in Omega's Tat Corner Steven Moffat lures you into buying tat with his come to bed eyes!

03 Jan 2022Who's He? Podcast #384 Seeking Heinz main courses - Eve of the Daleks Review00:53:54

In this episode of the Who's He? Podcast....

Review - Eve of the Daleks

It's a Happy New Year indeed as Phil and Paul get stuck in their own time loop as they watch the New Years Day special, Eve of the Daleks.

And wow, we actually got a decent Dalek story with good characters and dialogue and story that cracked along with everyone getting exterminated every 5 minutes! So sit back and listen to what the lads thought and also listen to them discussing Thasmin and the ups and downs of fans influencing production decisions.

And Scott also drops by and gives his thoughts on this years special!

Omega's Feedback Corner

Scott once again takes on reading duties as he reads out listener feedback received for Eve of the Daleks.

20 Jul 2014Who's He? Podcast #167 Am I living in a cardboard box?01:07:13

On this weeks edition of the Who's He? Podcast they've gone beige with an audio commentary for episodes 1 and 2 of Castrovalva.  During the dissection of this story, they bravely try to bring you facts of the day of original broadcast and make Tony play the guess the ratings game.  The lads are also fuelled with wine which causes Phil to make a rather naughty comment!

And in the news, they catch up all the leaks from the BBC, news of a BFI showing of Deep Breath and in Omega's Tat Corner, action figures that seem to get worse the more they make.

25 Sep 2018Who's He? Podcast #307 He has my eyes, my face, my voice01:11:06

In this weeks episode it's all go as since the lads have been away, we have had a new trailer for series 11 and a confirmed air date of Sunday 7th October for Jodie Whittaker's debut as the Doctor! So Paul and Phil are quite excited about this but this wouldn't be the Who's He? Podcast without Phil voicing some concerns!

But this main reason for the pair of them getting back together after an extended break, is to talk about the Target novelisation of The Enemy of The World by Ian Marter which the pair of them seem slightly disappointed about. Listen to find out why!

Also included this week, we lost three more people connected to Doctor Who, Missy is going to Big Finish, Paul shows off his rampant sexism and disdain for the working classes and of course, Omega's Tat Corner!

22 Jul 2012Who's He? Podcast #071 Cos I have seen many worlds00:57:10

This week Paul and Phil turn their attention towards The Stolen Earth, the penultimate story of Series 4.  This is a story that divides fans but will it also divide Phil and Paul?  Will they argue over minor details again or will they just be glad to get it over and done with?

And in this weeks news, Series 7 episode titles that were announced at last weeks San Diego Comic Con, the future of the BBC Television Centre has been decided and how Phil likes to spend his evenings in this weeks Omega's Tat Corner.

25 May 2024Who's He? Podcast 463 | A third party, a Wild Party | 73 Yards Review00:51:51

In this episode of the Who's He? Podcast....

Review - 73 Yards

This time Phil and Paul get wrapped up in folk horror with 73 Yards, the latest episode in this series of Doctor Who. But is it folk horror? Is it political satire or is it a time travel story. Well, it's all of the above which leaves Phil scratching his head and continues his stance of being a miserable little podcaster, while Paul as usual is the voice of sanity and just enjoys this weeks episode.

Also, they discuss the news that the last two episodes of this series are heading to UK cinemas, which turns Phil into a red faced gammon.

22 Mar 2015Who's He? Podcast #198 It's a mean old scene00:52:28

It's the Who's He? Podcasts 4th birthday and what better than a commentary to celebrate! Yes, Phil, Paul and a returning Tony plough through episodes 1 & 2 of The Gunfighters, that well regarded William Hartnell classic from 1966. Well I say well regarded as the brave trio manfully struggle with phoney American accents and try to bring you facts from the day of the original broadcast. In fact, they talk about that more than the episodes themselves, that's how bad it is!!

And there is no news this week, as they just wanted to get cracking with the commentary for a change.

And a big thank you to all our listeners for sticking with us for the past 4 years!!

27 Aug 2014Who's He? Podcast #171 Leave but don't leave me00:58:16

After months of anticipation the wait is finally over, Doctor Who is back!!  Yes this week Phil and Paul review Peter Capaldi's first episode Deep Breath by Steven Moffat. But was this worth the wait?  Well, Phil and Paul flip flop all over the place during their discussion over what appears to be a divisive story with each of them taking turns wearing the grumpy hat.  But you will hear such topics as convincing fans of a new Doctor through the companion and past Doctors, dead end plot devices and Pauls experience with Smell-O-Vision at the cinema.

And in the news, rumours fo Jenna Coleman leaving the show at Christmas, Ordnance Survey listing locations of Police Boxes and after all this time it's the return of the dreaded stats!!

21 Apr 2013Who's He? Podcast #103 Hearing them, seeing them00:48:59

This week Paul & Phil continue with their look at this series of Doctor Who by discussing the creepy and spooky Hide written by Neil Cross whilst cowering behind their cushions.  Was this an improvement on his previous script or was it a bit of a clunker?  Will the lads give another unanimous thumbs up to an episode of Doctor Who two weeks on the bounce or will they revert to type and give it the thumbs down?  Also listen to Paul & Phil travel back to the 1960's where a man could "provide" for a lady whilst wearing his finest tweed.

And in the news this week, they catch up on viewing stats (the most popular part of the show), DVD news on The Ice Warriors and a brief discussion on the release of the posters for the upcoming episodes of this series, including the title of the last episode which has made fandom explode.  Again.

29 Jul 2012Who's He? Podcast #072 It's a long, long journey01:00:10

We've reached the end of the series 4 road and this week Phil and Paul are joined by the marvellous Chris Burgess from Radio Free Skaro to look back at Journey's End.  During the course of their discussion, they let loose with their opinions on such things as Rose Tyler, easily beaten Daleks, Rose Tyler and Billie Piper, Russell T. Davies and Billie Piper and Rose Tyler.

And in this weeks news, Doctor Who has lost two actors with the sad passing of Mary Tamm and Geoffrey Hughes, an announcement of a new series 7 trailer and the inclusion of Doctor Who in the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games and some 50 the anniversary stamps.

Review - The Havoc of Empires

This month the lads look at The Havoc of Empires from Big Finish. In this story of mistaken identity, marriage and murder does this story transport Phil and Paul back to the early 1970's or does it leave them stranded in the present?

Who's He? at The Movies | The Last Voyage of The Demeter

This episode, Phil casts his eye over The Last Voyage of The Demeter, a take on a single chapter from Bram Stokers novel Dracula.

Telling the story or filling in the blanks of what happened on Dracula's voyage to the UK, this attempt to breathe live into the Dracula legend takes certain liberties with the text. But is it full of bite or is like a toothless vampire and sucks?

Who's He? TV The Mandalorian | Season 3 | Chapter 22 | Guns For Hire

In this episode of The Mandalorian, Din and Bo-Katan get sidetracked solving a droid mystery instigated by Lizzo and Jack Black and Christopher Lloyd pops up as this weeks villain!  Oh and Grogu becomes a Knight for no apparent reason.

Yes, in a bizarre episode full of celebrity cameos, Phil wonders what the point to all of this was but does pull a smug face when his theory of who owns the Dark Sabre is proven right!

23 Dec 2015Who's He? Podcast #228 There are thousands standing on the edge of the world01:00:06

Ho ho ho!! Welcome to the Who's He? Podcast Christmas Special as once again the Doctor Who specials of Christmas past are plundered to reveal The Christmas Invasion featuring the full debut of David Tennant as the Doctor. Join Ebeneezer Phil and Frosty Paul as they reminisce about the first Doctor Who Christmas special since The Feast of Steven and ponder whether this story required more of the Doctor and whether this is a stuffed tasty turkey of a Christmas story or a certifiable plum duff?

And in the news, Phil admits to his lies from the previous podcast and brings more stats to the proceedings, new writers hinted for Series 10 and one last Christmas gift in Omega's Tat Corner.

20 Jan 2013Who's He? Podcast #093 If you think you can push us01:05:45

It's the first audio commentary of the year, so that means once again Tony returns to the fold to join Phil & Paul in getting through Destiny of The Daleks episodes 1 & 2.  This one is real struggle folks!  The lads do their best to keep their spirits up in this shoddy run down Daleks, Stevie Wonder disco wigs and ill fitting Davros masks but try as they might, this one gets the better of them!  Tony tries desparately to inject some humour into proceedings with his facts but these fall flat in the face of this dreadful story!

And in the news this week the January releases from Big Finish, news of an actor who would like to return to Doctor Who and one actress who isn't and a return to Omega's Tat Corner with some overpriced glittery tat that wouldn't look out of place on QVC.

30 Sep 2015Who's He? Podcast #218 A good old British PONG!00:50:51

This week Phil and Paul cast their eye over The Witch's Familiar, the 2nd episode of series 9 of Doctor Who. After enjoying last weeks episode (with reservations!) what will they think of this weeks tale of a duplicitous Davros, a manipulative Missy and Dalek sewers that whiff of writers block? Well, both of them have a lot to talk about, so settle back in your chairs and listen to two disgruntled podcasters moaning!

And in the news this week, the rumour that David Tennant and Catherine Tate are to join Big Finish, just what did happen to episode 3 of The Web Of Fear and in Omega's Tat Corner it's what the world has been waiting for.....Missy tat!

01 Dec 2013Who's He? Podcast #140 It's not getting older, just much better01:00:19

Here it is folks, we've finally got round to reviewing the 50th Anniversary spectacular, The Day of The Doctor.  So what did Paul and Phil reckon to this multi Doctor story?  During their discussion they touch on the dangling Zygon plot thread, the necessity of an extra Doctor, the fan reaction to "Rose" and who is Tom Baker?

And in the news this week it's stats!!  And Michael Grade is still a stubborn old sod.

17 Aug 2014Who's He? Podcast #170 And another one gone01:41:07

In this special episode of the Who's He? Podcast, we take a look back at Matt Smith's time in the Tardis and discuss the impact he had on the show, how he could lift mediocre stories and Paul and Phil each reveal their favourite and least favourite Matt Smith performances.  However, it's not just their opinions being aired this episode as we have plenty of listener feedback as well.

And in the news this week, the Symphonic Spectacular returns down under in 2015, a teaser trailer for Deep Breath and because it's the height of summer, Omega's Tat Corner has a festive feel.

30 Jun 2013Who's He? Podcast #114 What they need's a damn good whacking00:34:40

This week, Phil and Paul cast their eye over Evolution of The Daleks in their ongoing retrospective of series 3 and it's business as usual! Pointless Pigmen, bad American accents and probably the most convoluted and stupid plot to take over the universe the Daleks ever came up with!! Perhaps now you'll realise just how much Phil and Paul suffer to keep you entertained!

And in the news this week, the director for the Christmas special is revealed, some exciting Big Finish and Philip Hinchcliffe news and in Omega's Tat Corner a rather expensive way to change the channel on your TV.

04 Dec 2018Who's He? Podcast #317 And when I awoke I was alone01:00:52

A creepy house in a Norwegian wood? A monster lurking in the undergrowth? Well, not exactly as It Takes You Away, the penultimate story of this season of Doctor takes you away to a lonely universe populated with a character from Babylon 5 and Hypnotoad! But it certainly made for an interesting episode of Doctor Who with Sapphire and Steel undertones!

And in the news this week, we say goodbye to Andrew Burt, more Tom Baker blu-ray news and of course there is Omega's Stats Corner!

22 Dec 2017Who's He? Podcast #291 Now five years later on you've got the world at your feet00:56:25

Jingle bells, Batman smells, Robin laid an egg! Yes, it's nearly Christmas so that means it's time for the Who's He? Podcast Christmas Special! So sit back and relax and listen as Phil, Paul and Tony mutter their way through K9 and Company in a festive audio commentary! Amongst the devil worship and sacrifice and an entire village getting drunk and smoking themselves to death, our intrepid trio hold up in the face of adversity (with the help of good old fashioned booze!) and bravely try to be informative with what was on telly and what was the Christmas number 1 on 28th December 1981.

Incidentally, a happy Christmas to all of you at home!

17 Dec 2011Who's He? Podcast #041 The ragged men in the ragged clothes00:49:35

In their last podcast before Christmas, the Who's He? team delve back into series 5 with a look at Vincent And The Doctor. During their discussion of this episode, Phil and Paul ask should Richard Curtis come back and again for Doctor Who and they also rename the Space Chicken to Space Turkey in light of the festive season. They also give sound advice on what to do with the carcass of a dead giant Space Turkey that can feed an entire village for months.

Also in the news this week, the Ponds are leaving Doctor Who, no two part stories in series 7, more movie rumblings and the first classic Who DVD releases of 2012. And not forgetting a very merry Christmas to all our listeners!

01 Sep 2013Who's He? Podcast #125 I feel that ice is slowly melting00:59:49

In this episode Phil & Paul return to the world of Big Finish with a look at the 5th Doctor and Peri story Red Dawn.  What do they think of this 13 year old story that was not widely regarded by certain quarters of fandom?  You may be surprised at their reaction but it makes Phil find time to make comparisions with Prometheus and gets bogged down in continuity while Paul just shakes his head.

And in the news this week (which we should really call the "olds") they catch up on news items they have missed out on the last couple of weeks such as Christopher Ecclestones message for the 9th Doctor BFI event, some DVD news and a bumper edition of Omega's Tat Corner!!

In this episode of the Who's He? Podcast....

Fear Her - Audio Commentary

In this episode Phil thought he would revisit Fear Her from 2006 starring David Tennant and Billie Piper, just to see if he had changed his mind about this episode of Doctor Who that he just didn't care for back in the day. So sit back and find out if Phil is still an old curmudgeon or has he turned into a big old softy that feels the love?

22 Jun 2014Who's He? Podcast #164 The captain said excuse me ma'am00:50:49

After their break week, the Who's He? Podcast make their triumphant return to the airwaves, with the continuation of their series 2 retrospective with a review of Tooth & Claw.  What will Phil and Paul now make of this blend of kung-fu monks, Queen Victoria (gawd bless 'er) and a big ol' hairy werewolf?  Listen to find out what they think and also whether this story could push the boundaries of what can be shown in a family show.

And in the news this week, Paul McGann lets slip that a sequel to The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot is in production, the Doctor Who world tour, the Doctor Who Experience is getting a revamp and John Barrowman and Julie Gardner receive an MBE each which Phil disses.

15 Mar 2015Who's He? Podcast #197 I can't hide00:46:36

In this weeks show, Phil and Paul look at Omega from Big Finish. This story was the first in a trilogy to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Doctor Who in 2003 and this tale featuring the 5th Doctor saw him going up against his old nemesis, Omega. But how does this hold up today? Well, if their reaction is anything to go by, not very well! And Phil is let down by Caroline Munro which makes him sad.

And in the news this week, the sad passing of another Who actor, the Saturn Awards nominations are announced, the Horror Channel comes to Freeview (which means Doctor Who for all) and in Omega's Tat Corner it's board game mania!

21 Oct 2012Who's He? Podcast #081 Turn around and see me cry01:58:49

After a couple of months, an audio commentary makes a welcome return to the Who's He? Podcast and they've selected The Twin Dilemma.  What's wrong with them?!!  During the course of the commentary they try to keep their spirits up by comparing the titular twins to Phil Collins and Mestor to Don Estelle with a little bit of Al Jolson thrown in for good measure.  But this one isn't pretty folks, oh no this is full of deep hurting, so if you want to hear three podcasting suffering collectively, then this is for you!!

Also, the news this week is all DVD related.  That's it, just DVD's really.

21 Mar 2014Who's He? Podcast #154 I can see it in your eyes01:09:25

Put out the bunting, it's the Who's He? Podcasts 3rd anniversary!  Yes three years of turning out this rubbish and still no-one caring!  And to celebrate we're giving you the first in a two part audio commentary for the Tom Baker classic The Brain of Morbius.  But let's hand over to Condo for the rest of this synopsis:

"Condo speak now?  Good, Condo like to speak!  Condo like Who's He? Podcast, it remind Condo of arm.  When will Condo get arm back?  Condo like Omega's Tat Corner and Tony.  Yes...Condo not hurt Tony.  Tony pretty?"

Yes....anyway, in the news week, some more casting news and set photos for for series 8, we wish Olaf Pooley a happy 100th birthday and in Omega's Tat Corner some stylish footwear!

The lads get their teeth into Neil Gaimans highly anticipated story, Nightmare In Silver, that promised to make the Cybermen scary again.  Well, that is certainly a bold claim and not one that goes unchallenged!  Oh no, Phil and Paul have differing views on this weeks episode which leads to Phil having an internal struggle before the leprechaun on his shoulder tells him to burn stuff, while Paul does his best to change Phil's mind only to fail miserably.  Phil also takes a moment this week to think of Jeri Ryan as Seven of Nine.  A very long moment in fact.  There is also a lot of talk about fanwank that could lead to blindness and they also briefly talk about She Said, He Said, the epilogue (yes, epilogue!) to The Name of The Doctor.

And in this weeks news, in the absence of any overnight viewing figures for Nightmare In Silver they make some up instead, news on showings for the blu-ray editions of the Peter Cushing Dalek films and in 50th Anniversary news, a photo of Matt Smith that has set tongues wagging and John Hurt lets the cat out of the bag which Phil and Paul talk about.  Sort of.

19 Jan 2014Who's He? Podcast 148 I forget who I am00:45:47

After what seems like an eternity, Phil and Paul return their retrospective of series 3 with a look back at Utopia.  With what is widely regarded as one the best episodes of Doctor Who since it's revival in 2005, does it still excite or has time not been kind to this story of The Masters resurrection?  While Paul is still under the weather and Phil at one point comes over all James Lipton (I just read that back.  Eurgh!), the lads certainly have a lot to talk about!

And in the news this week, the sad passing of Roger Lloyd-Pack, the end of online role playing game Doctor Who: Worlds in Time, more on set spoiler photos of series 8 and in Omega's Tat Corner it's everything you need for tea.

06 Jun 2017Who's He? Podcast #272 Every legend tells of conquest and liberty00:55:43

This week Phil and Paul reach the end of the Monk trilogy with Lie of the Land. Is this an improvement on last weeks episode and does it provide a satisfactory conclusion? You will have to listen to find out what they thought but you can be sure that they will discuss a companion shooting the Doctor, Missy and of course fake regenerations! And not only do you hear what our reviewing duo thought but also what you thought in our listener feedback section!

And in the news, Peter Sallis passes away at the grand old age of 96, Patrick Ness reveals that he won't be returning to Class and of course there is Omega's Stats Corner!

10 Aug 2015Who's He? Podcast #213 I'm not at my usual top billing00:43:43

In this edition of the Who's He? Podcast, Phil and Paul look at Minuet in Hell from Big Finish. In this tale of debauchery, lost identities and American politics, both Phil and Paul remain astounded at the bad accents on display but also the majesty of a Nicholas Courtney performance that lifts a very average Doctor Who story.

But in the news this week, rumours that series 10 will not air in 2016 which leads Paul and Phil to discuss the many theories that tag along with this rumour, Reece Shearsmith is cast in series 9 of Doctor Who and NASA prove they have nothing better to do than name craters on a moon after their favourite sci-fi characters.

19 Apr 2015Who's He? Podcast #201 Dig that heavy metal underneath your hood00:46:48

After what seems like years, Phil and Paul return to their series 2 retrospective with a look at Rise Of The Cybermen. How do the pair of them feel about this story after all these years and did it stand up as a reboot of the iconic Doctor Who villain? They discuss these topics whilst also comparing the Preachers to Citizen Smith which causes Paul to delve into Google.

And in the news, the pair of them try bravely to discuss a potential spoiler without actually telling anyone what the spoiler is and in Omega's Tat Corner it's time for Pop-tastic figures and some really expensive bluetooth speakers.

23 Feb 2016Who's He? Podcast #234 The darling of the stock exchange00:49:40

In this weeks edition of the Who's He? Podcast, the intrepid reviewing duo of Phil and Paul press their ears against the radiogram to listen to Crime of The Century from Big Finish. In this 7th Doctor story set during what would have been series 27 had the show not been cancelled back in the day, the lads marvel at Sylvester McCoy's trapped in a box acting and despair at the alien villains talking like surfer dudes. But did they enjoy it? Listen to find out!

And in the news, series 10 to start filming in May, some Target book re-releases, semi-stats and in Omega's Tat Corner it's Doctor Who, Willy Wonka and Sherlock tat!

19 Jun 2022Doctor Who: Who's He? Podcast #402 You are safe in my fart - Revenge of The Slitheen Commentary00:59:39

In this episode of the Who's He? Podcast....

Revenge of The Slitheen - Commentary

In this episode Scott suggested that they do something a bit different for the podcast and suggested a commentary for The Sarah Jane Adventures. So Scott picked Revenge of The Slitheen to watch and while Phil wasn't too keen (he doesn't like the Slitheen!), Scott gets quite into it by breaking wind and stinking the room out which is a first for the podcast!

19 Apr 2025Who's He? Podcast 494 | Lux - Knee-jerk Reaction00:14:02

In this episode of the Who's He? Podcast....

Knee-jerk Reaction - Lux

What did Scott and Phil think of Lux, the latest episode of Doctor Who starring Ncuti Gatwa and Varada Sethu. Listen for the next 10 minutes or so for their knee-jerk reaction!

Phil will be back with Paul during the week with their full review.

08 Nov 2013Who's He? Podcast #138 You don't have to put on the red light00:30:02

The 50th anniversary celebrations have begun!!  In this special episode we review the anniversary offering from Big Finish in the form their multi Doctor story Light At The End.  Will this story improve upon previous multi Doctor stories or will it be another jumbled mess attempting to cram in as many continuity references as humanly possible?  Never fear though as Phil and Paul give your their usual forthright opinion and Phil makes a complete balls up of explaining the plot!

However, you must bear one thing in mind!  This review does contain spoilers, so if you haven't listened to Light At The End you have been warned!!

18 Nov 2012Who's He? Podcast #084 And I live by the river01:26:18

After a no show with the podcast last week, episode 84 finally gets made but not what was advertised in the previous episode.  Oh no, they've gone and done an audio commentary instead and this month it's Dalek Invasion of Earth episodes 1 to 3.  During the commentary hear, feel and hit Tony as he makes Phil deploy the dreaded swear beep for the second time in the podcasts history!  Thrill as Paul wishes everyone a Merry Christmas and gasp in horror as Phil makes jokes about onanism!  But make no mistake, any diversity training they might have had went straight out the window!

And in the news this week, the Doctor Who Christmas Special prologue and trailer aired on Children In Need where we all found out the name of this years special, Doctor Who is up for a People's Choice award, Steven Moffat wins a Writers Guild Award (though none of them can figure out what for) and Alex Kingston reads the Angels Kiss that they all treat with complete indifference.

06 May 2020Doctor Who: Who's He? Podcast #355 Well, well, well, so I can die easy01:00:12

In this months edition of the Who's He? Podcast....

The News

In yet another quiet month of news, a nice surprise is to be had in the form of a special edition blu ray for Power of the Daleks and Big Finish continue to create content during the lockdown with a new 4th Doctor story starring Tom Baker

Review - Mawdryn Undead

This month Phil and Paul take a look at Mawdryn Undead in its written and televised formats. With a story that neither of them particular thought much of, did a rewatch and read of the Target novelisation change their opinion? And how did the story serve the introduction of Turlough to the Tardis crew? Well, there is one thing they can both agree on and that anything with added Nicholas Courtney is a bonus!

31 Jan 2017Who's He? Podcast #259 Trying to keep an eye on you01:08:15

Well, after the lads had finished recording, the news broke that Peter Capaldi announced that he was leaving the role of the Doctor. Despite being caught on the hop, this not entirely unexpected turn of events never the less shocked certain fans but also there was the earth shattering news that Sir John Hurt sadly passed away and we also lost Philip Bond.

But once the news is discussed, it's down to business with their review of the Target novelisation of The Curse of Peladon by Brian Hayles. This is story is held in high regard by both Phil and Paul and never more relevant than it has ever been, so it was with some trepidation that Paul approached this story as he didn't want to get caught out by an appearance of King Peladon's thigh boots!

07 May 2012Who's He? Podcast #060 Red is the colour of my hell00:55:46

Paul is back from his holidays feeling refreshed and gets straight back into the swing of things and joins Phil to look at The Planet Of The Ood. Phil finds this one a bit of a slog to review but livens things up for himself by doing a Sid James impression, while Paul concentrates on the plot and the the social messages that this episode was trying to convey.

Also, as a special treat, Tony joins Phil and Paul for the news section which was recorded in the pub while celebrating Pauls birthday. However, Tony being Tony, he gets easily distracted and goes hunting for alien lifeforms in a bowl of wasabi peanuts and Phil gets in another impression, this time the Kinder egg advert from the 1980's. Me scrooble now!

02 Sep 2012Who's He? Podcast #075 Without your love I ain't nowhere00:54:58

At last!!  After 8 months Phil and Paul have new Doctor Who to review in the shape of Asylum Of The Daleks!  And with the new series, they introduce a new ratings system to the podcast (though how long this will last is anyones guess).  What do they think of the series opener?  Are the Daleks truly scary again or they just the same old easily beaten dustbins?  And why does Phil bring Sir Digby Chicken Caesar into the conversation?

Also, in this week news the tabloids get it wrong again and in Omega's Tat Corner the discussion turns into a question of width (ooer!).

10 May 2015Who's He? Podcast #203 Dinosaurs roaming the earth01:06:20

In this weeks episode, Phil and Paul take a look at another Target novelisation with Doctor Who And The Dinosaur Invasion by Malcom Hulke. This is a story that both Paul and Phil love with a plot that has more twists and turns than a twisty turny thing and rubbish puppet dinosaurs. So did this book change any of those plots twists and did it go to any lengths to address the dinosaur factor? What did they find in addition were drunken Scotsmen, no cars of vanity and Phil trying to convince Paul of a what he believes to be a major change to one of the characters.

And in this news, more cast names and the episode total for Series 9, Doctor Who wins a BAFTA amd in Omega's Tat Corner it's pricey tat that both Phil and Paul would like to own.

09 Jun 2024Who's He? Podcast 465 | You elegant fowl! | Rogue Review00:46:03

In this episode of the Who's He? Podcast....

Review - Rogue

I think we guessed that this weeks episode of Doctor Who, Rogue would be divisive for some. However, what is surprising is that Paul and Phil are divided over their opinions on this story. Phil reveals that he has no soul and has a cold, dead heart while Paul embraces the love on display. But with owl people, a long forgotten Doctor and a love story thrown together into the mix, does the story hang together or is it as threadbare as pair of well worn britches?

Also, the lads pay tribute to William Russell who sadly passed away at the age of 99.

09 Feb 2016Who's He? Podcast #233 Overwhelming sorrow absorbs me00:44:00

In this edition of the Who's He? Podcast, Phil and Paul return to their series 2 retrospective with Love and Monsters. Yes, the pair of them were not looking forward to rewatching this not particularly well received story from Russell T. Davies, with Phil dreading having to watch Peter Kay and Paul dreading having to watch Marc Warren. But which one of them changed their mind about their least favourite actor and did either of them change their mind about this story?

And in a very slow news week, Steven Moffat receives an OBE and also lets slip that he is writing the 2017 Christmas special which leads Phil and Paul (with no authority at all) to announce that this will be Peter Capaldi's regeneration story. And in Omega's Tat Corner, it's blu-ray tat that everyone already owns.
