16 Feb 2021 | Set Building on COMC - WaxPackHero Podcast Episode 102 | 00:13:22
Today I discuss a unique set building project I went after. I built a complete Upper Deck Hockey relic set completely through purchases on COMC! I wrote a guest blog on COMC which covered the same topic, and you can find that post here! The set I built was the 2019-20 Upper Deck Series 2 Rookie Materials set. It contained 40 cards and since it has several scarcity tiers, it proved to be a bit of a challenge to complete. I had to have some patience and do a bit of hunting to get it done! 26 Sep 2023 | The Hobby is Dead, Long Live the Hobby! - WaxPackHero Podcast Episode 238 | 00:11:23
In these days of polarized headlines, not a week goes by without hearing a bit of hobby news and “expert” analysis that follows. That analysis often points toward two extremes. There is the perception that it is the greatest thing ever, or that it is proof that the hobby is dead, or will be shortly. In today’s episode I share my opinion on the “Hobby is Dead” mantra. While there may be some truth to that idea, depending on your definition of the hobby, I feel there is an argument to be made that the hobby is alive and well. Enjoy! 11 Feb 2020 | Flipping on COMC - WaxPackHero Podcast Episode 15 | 00:14:23
This is the second episode in a series about buying and selling on COMC. Flipping is how I got started on the site, and I share several of the strategies I used to build up my store credit! Things to Consider for some quick wins: 1) Change your account to “Advanced Reseller Mode” 2) Try to find cards that will give you a 2-3x return while still being the lowest priced on the site. 3) Filter search results by “Recently Added” or “Lowest Price”. 14 Jul 2020 | 1969 Topps - WaxPackHero Podcast Episode 59 | 00:10:47
In July 2020, I was finally able to track down the last card I needed to complete the 1969 Topps Set. Nolan Ryan was that last card, and a fellow collector on Twitter was willing to part with his copy and we were able to work out a deal. I wrote about this set and my journey to complete it here in this blog post from earlier this year. Don’t forget to add your memories, facts, and thoughts on the set in the comments below! 14 Feb 2020 | Submitting Cards to COMC - WaxPackHero Podcast Episode 16 | 00:14:33
This is the third episode in a series about buying and selling on COMC. Once time constraints required me to find a new way to scale my card sales, I began submitting cards to COMC. Things to Consider for some quick wins: 1) Identify cards to submit that can be listed for $1-$20 on the site and still be the lowest listed. 2) Start by sending 100-200 cards so that the upfront processing cost is manageable and sales from the first submission can be used to cover the cost of future submissions. 11 Aug 2020 | Crank the Presses? - WaxPackHero Podcast Episode 67 | 00:12:20
What if each sports card manufacturer chose one product from each sport to print to order all season long? This would address the high prices due to scarcity and lack of supply. It would potentially boost sales for the manufacturer while at the same time continuing to “protect” values of all the other releases due to the continued “responsible” production levels they would continue to have. 17 Jul 2020 | Expected Value in a Wax Box - WaxPackHero Podcast Episode 60 | 00:18:18
The price of sealed wax boxes have steadily risen over the last several years, and now we are in a situation where the “market price” of sealed boxes significantly higher that what we’ve historically seen. The current industry demand and fairly low supply are driving the prices, however those prices are also making it more difficult to profit from ripping and flipping. Rich Klein and I analyze the value of content a collector could expect to receive out of both hobby and retail packages of Topps Heritage. This process can be researched and repeated for almost every product you are considering. Following a similar methodology can help you decide if a particular product fits within your collecting budget and objectives. Follow Rich on Twitter @SabrGeek Sponsor of this Episode:

06 Mar 2020 | How I Sort Collections - WaxPackHero Podcast Episode 22 | 00:12:32
One of questions I recently received was “How do you go about sorting these large collections you buy?” The answer really depends on a couple things. First of all, what is your end goal? How you sort is dependent on how you collect or how you sell. Do you sell on COMC, eBay Sportlots? Do you sell singles or primarily put together sets and player/team lots? Those are the types of things you need to be thinking about when coming up with a sorting strategy. For me, I sort into 6 main categories. 1) COMC - Cards estimated to sell for $1 -$20 2) eBay - Memorabilia, complete sets, and single cards $20 and up 3) Sportlots - base and inserts 4) Card Show - junk wax stars, local team players, hot stars 5) Personal Collection - What cards or sets do I want to set aside to keep for my own collection 6) Bulk - everything else goes into a big lot to sell on Facebook Marketplace Buy your boxes, toploaders, and other sorting supplies from a local LCS or pick them up on eBay or Amazon using these links if you’d like to help support the show!
