I learned so much from David, from an inspiring story about the life-saving impact of Nettle seeds to his ability to bridge the worlds of the intellect and the Earth. I came away inspired and hopeful.

David Winston is an Herbalist and Ethnobotanist who has been in clinical practice for nearly 50 years and is an herbal consultant to physicians, herbalists and researchers throughout the USA, Europe and Canada. David is the founder/director of the Herbal Therapeutics Research Library, the dean of David Winston’s Center for Herbal Studies, and the president of Herbalist & Alchemist, Inc. Welcome to our second episode of Voices of our Herbal Elders! In this episode, I am joined by the remarkable Kat Maier—renowned herbalist, founder of Sacred Plant Traditions, and author of Energetic Herbalism.

Kat Maier, RH (AHG), is the founder and director of Sacred Plant Traditions, a center for herbal studies in Charlottesville, Virginia. In clinical practice for over 30 years, Kat teaches internationally at universities, conferences, and herbal schools. She is a founding member of Botanica Mobile Clinic, a nonprofit dedicated to providing accessible herbal medicine to local communities. For over 45 years Sara Katz has thrived amidst the forested mountains and wild plants of southern Oregon. Involved with United Plant Savers since its beginning, Sara served as UpS board president for 9 years. Karyn Sanders has worked with plants for most of her life. She was first trained in Native American traditional plant medicine by her grandmother. In her mid-teens she apprenticed with a Mexican curandera and has subsequently studied with various traditional teachers as well as Western herbalists. Karyn has been teaching and practicing herbal medicine from an energetic perspective for over 42 years. Karyn co-founded the Blue Otter School of Herbal Medicine in 2003. She also created, produced and hosted The Herbal Highway, a radio show (and now a podcast) that has aired weekly since 1997 on KPFA, 94.1FM out of Berkeley, California.
