Located smack bang in the middle of Sydney Harbour, with it's First Nations history lost to time (surely it's mere location would be cause for much significance), Cockatoo Island's first written history dates from 1839, where by the convicts who wound up there, were made to quarry sandstone from the island in order to build their own prison. 1871 saw the island's use change hands from penal colony, to an industrial school for girls, and a reformatory, before turning back to a prison in 1888 for another 10 years prior to goal time on the island ending for good. These days, Cockatoo Island makes use of it's unique, million-dollar setting, hosting high society functions, weddings, and providing a popular backdrop for many T.V shows. We start off this ep by returning to last week's to address the creepy- skeevy ghost that slid into our listener's bed (how did we miss this this first time??!?!).

Turns Out it's Haunted, a podcast investigating and researching haunted locations both near and far.

This week we have a very special guest who is one of Shannon's mentors and teachers - the beautiful Kate Reed. Kate first held circle in her early 20's, and over the next couple of decades continued holding circles amongst the contours of her professional life as a counsellor, youth worker, health coach, and business owner. In 2015 she was called to devote herself full time to Circle work, and in 2016 started teaching this knowledge to other women. She is the woman and heart behind The Sister Circles, and over time has facilitated hundreds of Circles, Rituals and Workshops, and created a Level 1 and Level 2 Facilitator Training Program so women can take this work back into their communities. Her dream is that every woman has the opportunity to sit in a safe and empowering space as they navigate the joys and challenges of life.
