Hate it or Love it (The intro that took 5 takes)
00:22:47
I'm Lieutenant Commander Doug Pistorius, your captain on the Xennial Aviator podcast, and we're about to embark on an inaugural flight that threads the vast skies of my personal and professional exploits. From the technical intricacies of Naval Aviation to the expanse of the world viewed from a cockpit, my 15-year journey as a Naval Aviator has been nothing short of extraordinary. Join me as I delve into the friendships forged and the globe-trotting thrills. This is where tales of the skies and street meet the voice of experience.
Additionally, we'll navigate the terrain of the Xennial micro-generation, a rare airspace where the analog roots of childhood intertwine with a digital adulthood. As a Xennial, my path is one of bridged eras. This show promises an eclectic crew of guests, from a fellow aviator transitioning to the airlines, an Oakland cop, a distilling expert supporting veteran causes, and an enlisted sailor reaching for the golden wings. Every episode is a tribute to the peaks and valleys of life's flight plan, because it's not just about the smooth rides but also the turbulence that teaches us to soar.

Episode 3: A Pilot Named SUE (Pt.2)
01:34:47
Ever wondered what it's like to navigate life's turbulent skies and still land your dreams? That's the flight plan for the continuation of our heart-to-heart with Travis, as we share a cockpit full of stories about the unsung heroes of mentorship, the grit needed to bounce back from life's nosedives, and the power of a supportive community.
In this Flight Deck Discussion, we tackle the taboo of failure, discussing how each nosedive is a lesson in the making, and why asking for help might just be your jet fuel for growth. We get candid about the importance of setting goals that keep your altimeter climbing steadily, and draw on our own flight logs to illustrate how even the smallest gains can lead to major milestones. Our conversation then cruises into the world of military transitions, and the art of maintaining authenticity in a world that often pushes for uniformity.
Finally, we prepare for our final approach by discussing aviation conferences, where handshakes and business cards can unlock doors to flight decks across the industry. Travis and I share how volunteering and engaging genuinely can lead to more than just career connections—it can enrich your flying career with a sense of purpose and community. So, whether you're perfecting your pre-flight checklist or gunning for the captain's seat, remember: the right crew can make all the difference. Episode 4: Raising HELLES with Ian Dibble
01:12:35
Ever pondered the secrets behind crafting the perfect homebrew? Just like to drink Beer in general? Join us as Ian Dibble, a seasoned homebrewer, spills the grains on transitioning from a curious onlooker of his dad’s brewing projects to mastering the art of all-grain brewing.
Ian is a member of the Cowford Ale Sharing Klub or better known as CASK. CASK is the original Homebrew club of Jacksonville which started back in 2006. Members gather at local breweries on the second Saturday of each month to share their latest creations, get advice on improving their recipes and participate in judging Interklub Competitions. Towards the end of each month, members also enjoy gathering for a Pop-Up Happy Hour at some of the smaller breweries around town for a few pints after work just to socialize. CASK is open to anyone who loves the craft of beer, mead, and cider making and always looking to add new members.
In our flight deck discussion this week, we talk the essentials of homebrewing, from the DIY extraction kits, to the finessed art of grain crush levels, offering an orchestra of advice for those itching to start their own homebrewing journey. As we share stories from the vats and the vaults of our brewing escapades, you'll discover how a potential brewing blunder can ferment into an unexpectedly delightful ale and why temperature control and sanitation are the unsung heroes of home brewing.
We then enter our cruise altitude where we discuss our likes and dislikes of brews, some notable varieties as well as some of or favorite brew pubs in the local area!
But the episode doesn’t stop there! As we prepare for our approach we pop open a few bottles of award winning brews that Ian brought for a tasting! Including a bottle of homemade mead named Viking Blood!
For our final approach, our conversation turns to the allure of seasonal drinking, and the camaraderie found in local homebrew clubs like CASK. It's not just about the how-to; it's an engraved invitation to a community passionate about the creation and conviviality of exceptional drinks. So whether you're a craft beer aficionado or a homebrew hopeful, join us for an episode steeped in the rich tapestry of brewing culture that just might inspire you to concoct your next homemade masterpiece. Cheers to that!

01:37:16
Straight out the gate and back at it again! Number 1 for takeoff into SEASON 2!!!
On this episode I invite Bill Barlow into the flight deck. Our in flight beverage this time consisted of a nice cup of Black Rifle Coffee.
Bill is a very accomplished author and businessman who has made a name for himself in the Direct Response television industry, or as we all know it "infomercials"
From the Bible on Tape to Juicers to double bladed circular saws if you have seen it on TV, chances are Bill had a hand in it.
As we reach cruise altitude, Bill entertains us with his stories of the industry, including how he went to war with "big mattress" and had a rival idea bought out by a unknown board game called Trivial Pursuit. As we come in for our approach to landing we drop the gear to discuss another passion of Bills, wine. This man is quite the wine connoisseur and he has an amazing story on how he got that way!

Episode 11: Educating Normies on The Internet Explorer's Podcast with Jim Dells
01:22:03
ATIS Is calling clear and a million for Episode 11 SEND IT!
On this episode Jim Dells from "The Internet Explorer's" Podcast joins me in the flight deck. Our in flight beverage this time consisted of a nice cup of Black Rifle Coffee (Which I should probably start posting a pic of)
Initially on takeoff, I expected me and Jim to jump right into his Podcast and share what drove him to his passion. However, as we reached cruise altitude I realized our conversation was going to get alot deeper.... It turns out we share alot commonalties in our backgrounds and upbringing, and its these things that forged us into the men we are. Jim talks alot about his initial time as an enlisted sailor, much like me, separating and learning what the "REAL" college experience is all about and finally making the move to come back to the military as an Officer and Leader and the trials and tribulations we've faced along the way.
In our initial descent, we do finally delve into Jim's podcast and talk about its unique nature of introducing people to the paranormal and other oddities that might not always breach the mainstream. His lighthearted approach makes pretty much any topic inviting! From Underwater civilizations to making a car fly with duct tape!
As we come in for our approach to landing we drop the gear to discuss the "why" to Jim's podcast and what he hopes to get out of it..

Episode 12: Warriors, Whiskey, and Life with Jason Spencer
01:30:16
ATIS Fair winds and fowling seas for Episode 12 LETS GOOOOOOO!
Well my friends, this is an episode that is about a year in the making! (Listen and you'll hear why!) Our in flight beverage for this interview are various samplings of Brass and Anchor whiskey!
For the takeoff I discuss just why this episode took so long and how it, as well as life events contributed to a delay in recording as well as the need for a break!
Once we get up to altitude I welcome up to the flight deck Master Chief Jason Spencer! I have known Jason for a few years now and saw some of the great things he has been doing for the veteran community so wanted to invite him aboard for a flight! As two "old salts" we discuss our time in the Navy, fun experiences and our outlook on the end of one career and into another. Which acts as a great segway into Jason's other endeavors. Jason is the creator of the Veterans Whiskey Group as well as Warriors and Whiskey on various social media platforms. He created these groups during the COVID-19 pandemic as a way for fellow brothers and sisters in arms to come together and enjoy some comradery in troubling times. Given the massive response he received, him and some partners decided to take it a step further and create their own brand of whiskey, Brass and Anchor! Within the last few years both him, his partners and the label have made quite the names for themselves and are changing the game of drink!
In our initial descent Jason graciously offered me a sampling of what Brass and Anchor has to offer and we had a on air tasting!
As we come in for our approach we discussed the future plans for Brass and Anchor and where you can link up to join in on the fun!

Episode 13: Legally Speaking with Ryan King
01:22:26
We're looking legal for takeoff in this next episode! Today I sat down with a close friend and attorney Ryan King. The course of our interview went over two different sessions where we discussed his passion for law, inspiration from rather unlikely sources, and how despite setbacks and taking a bit in his younger days to find his "groove", he ended up a now successful criminal trial lawyer.
As we get to cruise altitude we discuss the path he took to becoming a lawyer as well as his perspectives on practicing law, especially in a courtroom setting. Needless to say, Ryan has a very interesting take on Jury Selections!
Finally as we come in for a landing we discuss the parallels in law to aviation as well as the need to make judgement calls, stick to them and sometimes admit when the call might not of been correct. And in the end, I am excited to announce a small spin off series we'll be doing called "down the rabbit hole"
Each week we will try to surprise each other with a random conspiracy or paranormal topic to discuss for roughly 30-40 minutes!
As always go leave me a 5 star review on Apple or Spotify!

I am finally excited to drop this spin off we've been working on!
Join me and my friend Ryan King each week as we take turns springing a surprise conspiracy topic on each other and see just how far "Down the Rabbit Hole" we can go!
For this first one I surprised Ryan with Time Travel! Specifically I wanted to talk about alleged actual experiments forward and backwards in time! No metaphysical crap, I wanted to discuss real deal, physical accounts of alleged time travel. Our discussion takes us through quite a few projects such as The Philadelphia experiment, The Montauk Project and even breach the subject of this new 1988 "theory" that is gaining traction on the internet. Pour a glass and come join us for some light hearted fun into topics most people don't dare discuss!
