Ashley and Elizabeth are the co-founders of TRILUNA Wellness, a non-diet, pro-donut, anti-racist community wellness company in Nashville, TN, as well as the hosts of the Wellness Community Magic Podcast, where they host real talk about the wellness world and seek to make self-care realistic, sustainable, and inclusive. 05 Aug 2021 | PART 2: Oracle and Tarot Deck Creation with Coleman Stevenson | 00:34:36
In Part 2 of my conversation with tarot and oracle deck creator and all-around artistic powerhouse Coleman Stevenson of The Dark Exact, we dig into the practical, business side of being an independent creator that not many people talk about! From small-batch printing, to creative inventory storage struggles, to deciding whether or not to put gilded edges on your deck, Coleman peels back the curtain on running a one-person business and also offers excellent, real-talk advice for prospective deck makers. If you haven't listened to Part 1, I definitely recommend doing that to get Coleman's insights on the creative process of making tarot and oracle decks! It's right before this one in your feed. We have transcripts now! Find the transcript of this episode at thewordwitchtarot.com/transcripts and support the cost and labor of transcription by supporting this podcast on Patreon. ABOUT COLEMAN: Coleman Stevenson is the author of three collections of poems (Light Sleeper, Breakfast, and The Accidental Rarefication of Pattern #5609), several books about divination and creativity including The Dark Exact Tarot Guide and two collections of card spreads, and a book of essays on creativity accompanying the card game Metaphysik. Her writing has appeared in many literary journals and anthologies and on the website tarot.com. In addition to her work as a designer of tarot and oracle decks through her company The Dark Exact, her fine art work, exhibited in galleries around the Pacific Northwest, focuses on the intersections between image and text. She has been a guest curator for various gallery spaces in the Portland, Oregon, area, and has taught tarot, poetry, design theory, and cultural studies at a number of different institutions there, most currently for the Literary Arts Delve series, which includes seminars at the Portland Art Museum. In this episode, Claire looks at the astrology of the next two weeks (so much Sagittarius!), reads the cards for a listener’s question, and introduces a new tarot segment! Once a month for the next nine months, we’ll be looking at the Tarot through the lens of Number Families. By understanding the foundational energies of element and number, we’re able to bridge the Major and Minor Arcanum and uncover the logic that gives rise to the meaning of each card. This week, we cover the basics: the elements and The Fool. Next month, we tackle the 1’s!
Also in this episode, Harvey James of Harvey James Tarot stops by to tell us about a very important day coming up next week: Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR). Harvey tells us about TDOR and about what we can do to mourn and venerate those souls lost to transphobic violence. Find info about TDOR: http://tdor.info

04 Jun 2021 | Moving Tarot Queerly Forward with Nick Kepley | 01:05:34
Nick Kepley (he/they), a.k.a. Man of the Cards, joins me to talk about one of my very favorite subjects: gender in tarot. Together, we dig into the court cards, the masculine/feminine duality, the idea of “traditional” card meanings (who’s tradition are we talking about?), tarot as a tool for deconstructing social programming, tarot as an essentially nonbinary journey, and why we’re both so in love with this deck of cards that we’re trying to evolve and expand them beyond these sticky and ingrained limits. As Nick points out in the episode, this topic of gender in tarot ISN’T just for trans, nonbinary, and genderqueer folks. It’s for cis people, too. In Nick’s words, “Gender affects all of us in huge ways… It’s not about eradicating gender. It’s about trying to open it up to make it less limiting for everyone.” So tune it, cis friends!

28 Jul 2021 | Oracle and Tarot Deck Creation PART 1 with Coleman Stevenson | 00:56:33
Tarot and oracle deck creator and all-around artistic powerhouse Coleman Stevenson of The Dark Exact joins me to talk all about the process of deck creation from concept to art to publication. In this first part of our two-episode interview, we dig into the different processes behind tarot and oracle creation, what makes a good oracle deck (and what makes a bad one), evolving traditional deck systems, and what makes a deck of cards magical. Tune in next week for Part 2, where we get into the joys and challenges of independent deck publication and running your own business! Coleman Stevenson is the author of three collections of poems (Light Sleeper, Breakfast, and The Accidental Rarefication of Pattern #5609), several books about divination and creativity including The Dark Exact Tarot Guide and two collections of card spreads, and a book of essays on creativity accompanying the card game Metaphysik. David Salisbury is a queer witch and professional activist who joins us today for an enlightening conversation about magic-working and activism! David’s fourth book on witchcraft, Witchcraft Activism: A Toolkit for Magical Resistance, comes out from Weiser Books on March 1st!
But before we get to the interview, Claire takes a look at watery, intuitive Pisces, the upcoming Mercury Retrograde in Pisces, and the medicine of The Moon card this season.

16 Mar 2019 | #12: The Emperor, the 4's, and Cultivated Expansion | 00:58:46
In this episode, Claire has a LOT to say about The Emperor, Death, and the rest of the number family of the 4’s! This is the energy of structure and stability, of systems and intelligent design, and of intentionally cultivated growth. The Emperor is an often misunderstood card, one with which many folks have a hard time connecting, so here we unpack the card’s associations with patriarchy and toxic masculinity and take a look at The Emperor’s true medicine, which has nothing to do with either.

19 Nov 2018 | #4: Special Episode! Transgender Awareness with Aaron Caffee and Harvey James | 00:49:49
In this special bonus episode for Transgender Awareness Week (Nov. 12-19), Claire (they/she) has a conversation with their partner Aaron Caffee (he/him) about his experience as a transgender man, and talks to Harvey James (they/them) of Harvey James Tarot about their magickal work with transgender ancestors (or “transcestors,” if you will). Claire also shares their own experience as a nonbinary person in a binary world, and we hear messages from trans and gender-nonconforming (GNC) listeners on what they want their trans/GNC siblings and cis allies to know this week.

28 Nov 2018 | #5: Hermit-Like Manic State with Harvey James | 01:32:55
In this episode, Claire gives you the astro rundown for the next two weeks, including Mercury stationing direct and the New Moon in Sagittarius (sounds good, but it’s complicated) and then brings you their long-awaited conversation with Harvey James (they/them) of Harvey James Tarot. Claire and Harvey get cerebral about tarot, covering the archetypes, gender, representation, and what that all says about what’s “normal” (spoiler alert: there is no normal). Harvey also shares the inspiration and creative process of designing their own deck and makes a VERY EXCITING announcement. Don’t miss it!

12 Dec 2018 | #6: The 1's and the Winter Solstice | 01:07:59
The Winter Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere is coming up on December 21st, so in this episode we look at the significance of the solstice in the Wheel of the Year, and Claire gives us two ritual suggestions to harness the power of this longest of nights. We also continue our series on Tarot Number Families with the 1’s, which also happens to be the BIGGEST number family, encapsulating three Major Arcana cards and eight Minor Arcana cards, so get ready! The 1’s are the family of the grand cycle and of the evolution of the conscious Self, so this is the perfect number to discuss at this time, as the wheel turns to a new year and beginnings and endings are so much on our minds. Claire also answers a listener question about the word “femme” and reads the cards for a listener query about envy.

27 Dec 2018 | #7: Lifting the Veil with Keon of Millennial Soul Food | 01:29:49
Welcome to Capricorn season! The Sea-goat's tarot card is The Devil, so in this episode we look at the medicine that The Devil and Capricorn have to offer as we move into the new year. We also talk about setting intentions (or “resolutions,” if you must) for the new year (or not!), and we dig into the problematic messaging of the Law of Attraction. Next, it’s on to the main event: our interview with Keon of Millennial Soul Food. Keon is a tarot reader, a life/spiritual/business coach, a Capricorn Sun/Moon and Aquarius Rising, and a self-described “dystopian sci-fi Octavia Butler character.” Keon talks to us about psychoactive plant magic, hoodoo, cultural and spiritual appropriation, developing our personal connections to the divine, and hanging out in William Faulkner’s cemetery, to name a few topics within this incredible discussion.

09 Jan 2019 | #8: The 2's and Tarot Ethics | 01:17:41
This episode continues our Tarot Number Families series with a lesson on the 2’s! The High Priestess leads this number constellation characterized by duality, receptivity, and inwardness. Claire is also joined by their official babe Aaron Caffee, who you may remember from Episode 4, for a new segment on the ethics of tarot reading! This time, Claire and Aaron share their own experience with a tarot reading gone wrong, discussing issues with timelines and free will. But before all that, Claire digs into the Capricorn-Cancer eclipse cycle that we just entered and what that has in store for your 2019. If you liked this episode, please subscribe, rate, and review! The Fives are full of challenge, conflict, and contraction, but they are also where we meet our biggest opportunity to learn, grow, and spiritually evolve. This episode, we explore the Hierophant, Temperance, and the Minor Fives, and Claire shares why they chose to name their in-progress tarot deck Fifth Spirit Tarot. (Hint: it’s because of the Fives!)
Tarot Cards in this episode: the Hierophant, Temperance, 5 of Wands, 5 of Swords, 5 of Cups, 5 of Pentacles.
