22 May 2018 | VMP 133: Chatbots 2.0, How To Use Conversation To Grow Your Veterinary Practice | 00:41:16
Chatbots are back!!! Everyone stop what you're doing and go to Manychat.com and authorize the app for your veterinary practice now! Seriously, go and do it, it is free to sign up. Earlier this year, Facebook froze the chatbots for new users, so unless you had already signed up for Manychat or a similar program you were locked out. Luckily, Facebook just opened ManyChat back up for everyone. So what are messenger bots? Why Should you care? In the simplest terms, messenger bots are like fancy email responders, if emails got 90% open rates and were easy to use to create logic based responses. Messenger is seriously one of the most amazing mediums to market and engage on. You can create tools to create subscribers that are super frictionless, you can engage with multiple content types and you can talk to your clients at scale. In today's episode, I cover some best practices for messenger, why you should care about messenger, some marketing ideas, and best practices. I also walk through all of the Manychat features and explain their functionality. Consumers are wanting to get answers to their questions immediately. We are in the era of one click to buy your same day delivered items, and it is only going to get faster and faster. Just because you're a veterinary practice doesn't mean that the way you engage with clients and customers will be any different. You've got to adapt to the times and ways that your clients want to engage or you're going to be left behind. Chat bots let you do that by creating systems that can do most of the leg work and segment people into the right buckets. Once someone has gone through the proper channels and identified themselves as someone who needs to be spoken to, then you can take your time to engage, but it will have positive ROI for you and your practice. Get on the chat bot bandwagon before it gets crowded, there is so much opportunity here!
17 Aug 2020 | Episode 203: Exciting New Updates To Make Your Digital Marketing Better | 00:17:19
In today's episode, I cover some new and exciting updates that are coming to YouTube, Google Ads, Google My Business, and social platforms that you can use to help your practice's digital marketing. Starting with YouTube, Google now offers a youtube form ad that lets you customize what your clients can request from you. I always like to say that veterinary practices should be running ads on Youtube. YouTube is a great place to run ads for your practice as it gives potential clients the opportunity the ability to see your practice and get an idea of what to expect when they come to your practice. It's also one of the less used ad platforms making the competition very light. Google My Business- Now makes it easier to make adjustments to your hours and modified services. You can let clients know your new temporary hours, curbside services, or even temporary closures. Social Networks-With social networks changing so frequently (Tik Tok may be banned in the US in the coming months, constant changes to algorithms on both Instagram and Facebook ) it is important to remember that social media is just a rental space for traffic. Make sure you are collecting emails and phone numbers from clients to create your own lists for email and text message marketing. Google Ads Call ads-Google has now changed its format for Call Ads. A few things to make sure you have in place before running these ads. 1) make sure you have your keywords very locked down to avoid getting junk calls and attracting the wrong kind of clients. 2) Only have your ads running when you are open to taking calls. 3) and lastly provide your front desk with scripts they can refer to help get your potential clients in your practice. Be sure to listen and let me know if you have any questions, comments, or need help with anything!
25 Jan 2016 | VMP 080: How To Use Google Tag Manager To Simplify Your Veterinary Marketing | 00:27:23
Creating content and ads can be difficult enough without having to go through all the extra work of adding tracking pixels into the equation. Google's new tag manager is going to simplify some of the most important but complicated aspects of digital marketing. One of the things that I fail to do most often that I wish I executed better on was creating enough segmentation for all the tracking pixels that I need to place, but it ads a ton of tedious work to the whole process and often times I forget to do what I know I should be doing. First if you don't know what pixel tracking is, then you are missing out on a huge opportunity for increasing the value of content and marketing pieces you create. Pixels are pieces of javascript code that allow you to track people who visit your site or just very specific parts of your site. This code allows you to create audiences of people to show ads to on specific sites like Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and ad platforms like Google Adwords. For example, let's say you're selling dog food and you have people add a bag of dog food to their online cart, but they abandon half way through the process and don't end up buying. You can use retargeting codes to track these people and show them ads of the food they were thinking about buying, except maybe you show a coupon or a limited offer to drive them to purchase. Tag manager makes it so that you can create and place these javascript codes without having to adjust your website code. If you don't know how to edit your website or if you don't manage adjustments then this will help! Now with tag manager all you have to do is create a container, get a single code and have that installed on your website once. Once it is installed you never have to put code on the site again! All you have to do now is create tags that use specific triggers and variables to tell google when to fire a tag(this means run the javascript code and create your remarketing list or event tracking) You can use tag manager to not only remarket, but also to track behavior and engagement on your site. This is probably going to be my favorite marketing tool I use this year!

05 Aug 2019 | Episode 170: How Much Should You Know About Digital Marketing? | 00:19:18
Have you ever been overwhelmed with your veterinary practice's digital marketing? In Todays Episode I talk about how much should you know about digital marketing? It all comes down to what is your job? If you are the practice manager but you have a marketing team for your practice then you only need to know so much but if you are the marketing director or the person in charge of the marketing you should have a firm understanding of marketing. For people in the practice who are not running the marketing but manage the marketers, they should have an understanding of marketing basics and general principles of how funnels work, how to take customers through each phase of the funnel (awareness, evaluation, and conversion) and how to turn strangers into returning clients at your veterinary practice. For the marketing professional or marketing team, they should be very well versed on the ins and outs of digital marketing and how things run and should be running and how to effectively have the veterinary practices marketing work. as well as be very aware and have a very solid understanding of all aspects of digital marketing. Understanding where the traffic is coming from, what the practice goals are, proficient, and communicate with the marketing managers or practice managers what is the best way to execute to reach goals. A tip to have your marketing run a little smoother no matter how is in charge is I would suggest setting up campaigns and KPIs in your veterinary practice digital marketing that are easy to track as well as setting up a dashboard of the 10 most important KPIs to your marketing to easy check if they are working.

22 Apr 2019 | Episode 155: Building A Social Media Strategy | 00:14:33
In today's episode, I talk about building a social media strategy of where you should be spending your time and where you should be divvying up your time. It is extremely important to be reaching customers on the channels you want to use to grow your business. whether that be Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin or any other platform you use. First, where should you be spending your time? This really is dependent on which platforms you want to use for your social media marketing and who you want to reach. there are 4 major platforms I believe are beneficial to social media marketing. 1) Your website & Blogging- Share blog content on your actual website and also take your blog post and repurpose to other platforms. 2) Facebook & Instagram - Facebook is still the top place to reach people because it's so widely used by millions. Instagram is another great place to put content as it is also very popular 3) Linked In -Perfect for reach other veterinary professionals and a great place to put your content if you have a specific type of practice like content about surgeries and dental procedures 4) Google My Business Post Next, What your strategy should be? If you have a full-time social media manager you should be using all platforms to greater reach potential customers. For small business owners, you should also be using all the major platforms. Lastly, Where should you be divvying up your time? For Small business owners, 80% of time should be used on one specific platform that has a video. Videos are great because all of the major platforms now support videos and you'll be able to post on your main platform and then be able to post on the others to really get the most out of your content. Make sure you are consistently posting and also repurposing content across all the platforms. Be sure to listen and let me know if you have any questions, comments or need help with anything!
08 Aug 2020 | Episode 202: How To Market Your Practice When Its Busier Than Ever! | 00:24:10
In today's episode, I talk about the importance of using digital marketing in your veterinary practice even when you're super busy. Now you may be asking why do should I be marketing while I'm so busy? While you may be busy now, with everything changing so frequently you could find your self in a slow season all of a sudden. When you have marketing already set in place during busy seasons it makes the slow seasons rebound faster. You also have control of your marketing to turn on certain funnels and shut off others whenever you need to. A few things you can do while your super busy to keep your marketing running. 1) Make sure you have and are using email marketing in your practice to target both current and new clients. 2)Whenever possible keep your content creation going, for example, having a camera ready to go to capture behind the scenes of your practice to turn into social posts. 3) Create blog posts from transcribed consults. This can help your clients find answers they are looking for from you in an easy to access way as opposed to calling and taking valuable time. 4)Find ways you can take your popular content and repurpose it on other platforms and even different forms of media such as taking a video and turning that content and turning it into a blog post. 5) Making small steps in your marketing while your busy can grow into big progress that is beneficial while you hit a slow patch. 6)Using paid ads as a form of insurance for your veterinary practice's marketing. and lastly 7) Create evergreen content that you can use for years to come. Be sure to listen and let me know if you have any questions, comments, or need help with anything!
13 Nov 2018 | VMP 140: Why You Need To Be A Multi-Channel Marketer For Your Veterinary Practice | 00:21:22
Social media is INSANELY important, I love it, but it isn't the only way to get new clients. In today's episode, we talk about how you should be diversifying your veterinary practice's traffic and client generation by becoming a multi-channel marketer. What is a multi-channel marketer? Simply put it is someone who understands and can use more than a single marketing channel. So if you've been working on and mastering Facebook, you should also have Adwords, email marketing or other media channels to help generate clients. What is prompting this discussion today is that I've been seeing Facebook get much more difficult from the paid ads department, especially over the past year. It makes total sense and here's why, Facebook's growth is slowing when it comes to new user growth and younger segments are actually using Facebook less. Despite this lack of user growth, Facebook's ad revenue is higher than ever and this is because there are more advertisers than ever. Both Facebook and Instagram are seeing more ads and advertisers and it's only getting more crowded. It is simply a matter of supply and demand. Demand is up and supply is limited so prices go up. This doesn't mean that Facebook isn't still a fantastic, amazing and effective platform, it just means the gravy train is over. I'm seeing higher cost per clicks and more expensive leads. We're still around the 8-15 dollars per lead area right now for most veterinary practices, but be prepared for that number to go up. As long as you're good at retaining clients, Facebook will continue to be a valuable way to attract new people to your veterinary practice. You're also going to want to make sure that you are tracking your marketing so that you can know what your ROI is. So let's talk how to protect yourself from overexposure in one area by diversifying where your clients come from in this episode of the veterinary marketing podcast.

18 Apr 2023 | VMP 247.5 Don't Get Left Behind: The Urgent Need for Veterinary Practices to Switch to GA4 | 00:06:16
Hey everyone, it's Brandon Breshears, and in this episode of the Veterinary Marketing Podcast, we're going to talk about something that's really important for your veterinary practice's marketing strategy: upgrading to Google Analytics 4. Now, if you're not already aware, the old version of Google Analytics, Universal Analytics, is being sunsetted in July, which means you need to switch over to GA4 as soon as possible. But don't worry, it's not just about upgrading for the sake of it - GA4 is actually a better product that comes with a lot of benefits for your practice. First of all, GA4 integrates really well with other Google products, which means you can get a more comprehensive view of your marketing efforts across different channels. And, it allows for more detailed event tracking and conversion tracking, so you can really understand how people are engaging with your website and where you can make improvements. But here's the thing: if you don't make the switch to GA4, you're going to miss out on valuable data and benchmarks that you'll need to inform your marketing decisions. Without this information, you won't be able to see what's working and what's not, and you could end up wasting your marketing budget on tactics that aren't effective. The good news is that by making the switch, you'll get better insights, more conversion actions, and better linking across products. It's really a no-brainer if you want to stay ahead of the game in the competitive world of veterinary practice marketing. And hey, before we wrap up, I want to give a shoutout to our sponsors for this episode: UsedVetEquipment.com and NewVetEquipment.com. Be sure to check them out if you're in the market for veterinary equipment - they've got some great deals! So, don't wait any longer - listen and make the switch to GA4 today and start getting the insights you need to take your veterinary practice marketing to the next level.
18 Sep 2024 | VMP 282: Arielle Putter Shares How To Succeed With Short Form Content In Your Veterinary Practice | 00:51:52
In a recent episode, I had the pleasure of chatting with Arielle Putter, a seasoned social media and content creator marketer with a rich background in veterinary marketing from her time at Spot On Veterinary Hospital. Now focusing on consulting for veterinary practices and brands, Arielle shared some incredible insights on how digital marketing can transform veterinary practices. We dove deep into social media strategies, especially the power of TikTok and short-form video content, to boost visibility and engagement with potential clients. One of the key takeaways from our conversation was the importance of authenticity over production. Arielle pointed out that audiences today are drawn to genuine, relatable content rather than overly polished videos. This trend is part of a broader "de-influencing" movement where consumers are becoming more skeptical of traditional marketing tactics. She emphasized capturing real moments within the practice, like behind-the-scenes looks or spontaneous pet moments, and embracing imperfections. We also discussed effective engagement strategies, such as using humor and timely comments on trending videos, and the growing trend of using TikTok as a search engine. Arielle shared her experiences and actionable advice on optimizing content for search, balancing original content with trends, and leveraging AI for efficiency while maintaining a human touch. This episode is packed with valuable insights for any veterinary practice looking to enhance its digital marketing efforts. If you're looking to refine your strategy or just starting out, Arielle's advice on identifying your unique niche and involving your team in content creation can provide a solid roadmap for success. 20 Apr 2023 | VMP 248: 60 Million Views and Counting: The Secret to Arielle Putter's Viral Veterinary TikTok Marketing Strategy for Spot On Vet Revealed | 00:38:51
Why Your Veterinary Practice Needs to Be on TikTok: Insights from a Pro Are you a veterinary practice owner who thinks social media marketing is not worth your time and effort? Think again! According to Ariel Putter from Spot On Veterinary Hospital and Hotel, TikTok can be a game-changer for promoting your practice and attracting new clients. In a recent episode of the Veterinary Marketing Podcast, Ariel shared her experience of using TikTok to showcase her practice's unique services, beautiful facility, and adorable patients. So, what makes TikTok so special? Ariel believes that TikTok offers a unique opportunity to connect with clients and show them what goes on behind the scenes. With over 60 million views and 10 million likes in just six months, she has seen an increase in clients who have found them through the platform. Once they grab someone's attention on TikTok, they tend to become more dedicated clients. But how can you create engaging content on TikTok? Ariel suggests using trending songs, adding captions, and posting frequently to increase engagement. She also emphasizes the importance of showing personality in videos and making jokes to hook viewers in. And don't forget to engage with viewers in the comments section, which she achieves by creating recurring characters that people love. While some people may argue that TikTok is not local or regional, Ariel notes that TikTok allows for more niche communities to form. It also allows for more personality to shine through and that creators can engage with their audience in a more personal way. TikTok is not curated, and it allows for more creativity and originality than other social media platforms. So, what are you waiting for? Follow Ariel's advice and start using TikTok to promote your veterinary practice today. Who knows, you might just become the next viral sensation!
12 Oct 2015 | VMP 065: How To Define Your Veterinary Practice's Ideal Client | 00:26:35
One of my favorite things about Marketing is that you have the ability to choose who you work with and who you attract to your digital marketing pieces. I bet it isn't said too often but you can choose who you work with and what kind of clients come to your practice. I am sure that there will always be some difficult clients, but what if you just focused on attracting clients who were just like your the favorite clients you already have. Now I definitely understand the difficulty that a lot of veterinary professionals have when they try and define who they want coming in to the practice. Obviously they want as many people as possible to bring their pets in and they want to provide high levels of service and care, but if you get to choose who you work with, what would that person look like? In today's episode we cover exactly that, and more by creating your ideal client's avatar. If you think about your favorite clients you probably have a good idea what they look like, but we go way more in depth in creating your ideal client avatar. A client avatar is a marketing term that represents what your client is like, and we go so far as to create a name, demographic data, phrases expression that person uses and much more. Creating your client avatar really gets you to think in terms of your ideal client so that when they read your content or see your marketing they identify with it immediately and are drawn to your practice. When you are thinking about the ideal client, think about several of your favorite clients and try and figure out what are some of the commonalities between them. What makes this person tick, what are some of their fears, what are some of their pain points or what is it that will really make this person feel like they are valued at your practice. Imagine what your practice could be like if the majority of your clients were exactly like your favorite clients. Once you have gone through the process of thinking more about who your client is and what truly motivates them you'll be a far more effective marketer. Everything from the content that you create to the email you send will be created with better positioning and should connect with the potential client. This exercise will also help you to define the demographics you use to create and target your ads as well.

26 Aug 2020 | Episode 204: Why Analytics Are So Important In Your Marketing | 00:21:08
In today’s episode, I go over the importance of tracking your veterinary practice's analytics. I cover what you should be tracking, how you should be tracking it, how often you should be checking your analytics, and how they are going to help you grow your business. While analytics can be viewed as time consuming and confusing its important to keep track of how your offer, ads, content, and emails are being tracked and if they are being tracked properly. Understanding where you stand in your marketing (if things are working or not) is one of the most important things you need to know. You need to know the basics of what's happening now to plan what your next step will be. The analytics you should be tracking is dependent on what you want to achieve through your content, ads, offers, and emails. Starting with Google Analytics- Setting up a Google Analytics dashboard, adding Google Analytics to your website, and using UTM tagging for URLs. Once you have these 3 things set up you will want to go to your Google Analytics to make sure it's working. since google analytics ties into your website there are a few important KPIs to be tracking Total Visits- Number of people who visit your site Percentage of New Visit- New people who come to your site Traffic By Channel-Breaks down which channel visitors came from Time on Site- How long people are on your site, the longer they spend on your site the more they are inclined to become clients Bounce Rate- How many people visited your site and left immediately With social media, you will want to know your typical reach and engagement on each post to get a gauge of how well you are doing. You will also want to track your engagement KPIs. Paid traffic, you will want to look to CPC and cost per conversions KPIs. And lastly, with email marketing, you will want to track your open rate, click-through rate, and take rate of offer. Be sure to listen and let me know if you have any questions, comments, or need help with anything!
20 Dec 2023 | VMP 264: Crucial Veterinary Marketing Strategies For 2024 | 00:36:59
In a recent episode, I discussed the five most crucial marketing activities for veterinary practices to ensure success in 2024. We all know that the upcoming year may bring some challenges, like price sensitivity and a decrease in clients and appointments. But fear not, because with effective marketing strategies, we can turn these challenges into opportunities for growth. First up, let's talk about the power of tracking and data analysis. I highly recommend using call tracking software like CallRail to determine where your clients are coming from and gather qualitative and conversion data. This information is crucial in understanding which marketing channels are effective and how to improve conversion rates. Another important aspect is focusing on what you want. It's essential to define your target audience and attract the right clients. By doing so, you can achieve better results in your marketing efforts. And speaking of clients, understanding their value is key. I advise practices to track revenue per client and break it down by source for effective marketing measurement. Now, let's dive into conversion tracking. While tracking website data is important, without conversion tracking, it may not directly impact your bottom line. I recommend using CallRail for call tracking, implementing source tracking for booked appointments, and utilizing Google Analytics for website data. Moving on, I want to stress the importance of marketing to your own email lists. Many practices currently underutilize this strategy, but it's a significant opportunity for growth. Regular communication and providing value to your clients can go a long way in building a loyal customer base. To build a community within your email list, I suggest incorporating text messaging and online chat widgets. Programs like Twilio can help you integrate text messaging into your marketing efforts and facilitate better communication with your audience. Inbound marketing and offers also play a crucial role in your marketing success. Having systems in place to generate leads and increase website traffic is essential. Paid advertising can be a flexible and effective way to boost traffic during slower periods. And don't forget about the power of offers in conveying value to your audience. Maximizing existing resources is another key strategy. Creating a positive customer experience and implementing internal marketing strategies can help you stand out from the competition. Setting up a referral program and implementing rewards and retention programs can keep clients loyal and prevent them from seeking services elsewhere. In conclusion, by implementing these strategies, veterinary practices can navigate challenges and thrive in the industry. I encourage you to share these insights with others who may benefit. Here's to a successful end of the year and an even better year ahead!
18 Mar 2019 | Episode 151 Using Paid Advertising In Your Practice Feat. Adam Greenbaum From Whiskercloud | 00:36:05
Is your veterinary practice running paid ads? Paid advertising is a great way to increase traffic to both your websites and your physical practice. In Todays Episode we are joined with Adam Greenbaum from Whiskercloud! Adam and I share some of our thoughts on paid advertising and why it's so beneficial to have for your practice's marketing. Starting off with the most important part of paid traffic, Tracking and measuring your KPIs and ROIs. When tracking you need to have very specific goals in mind. The clearer the offer and objective of the offer are the better it will perform. Another important part is response time, you should keep your response time short when you have potential clients interested in your offers. You want to make a good impression to potential clients that you want them to come into your practice and that you're excited to work with them. Keep in mind that when you run ads you will experience an increase in phone calls, emails, and messages that will need to be answered or replied to so your potential clients know that you are wanting to work with them. Now let's talk money... with Paid advertising, you will have to pay to get your ads out there to reach potential clients. Adam and I discuss what we think are the best budgets to really get your advertising rolling without breaking the bank while still being beneficial to your marketing. Adam And I also share a very exciting announcement in this episode We are offering a 14-day free trial as well as a monthly price of just $299 a month to get you started with paid advertising. 30 Apr 2018 | VMP 130: Should You Start A Podcast To Market Your Veterinary Practice? | 00:23:30
Have you ever thought about starting a podcast? I've spoken to a lot of veterinarians who have said they've been thinking about starting one for a while, so I figured I'd help them out. This episode is the first in a series on how to create a podcast for your veterinary practice. In this episode, we cover the general items you should consider before starting a podcast. First, why should you even care about podcasting? I think that it has a bunch of advantages as a content type(obviously). First, I like podcasting because there is a HUGE number of users who consistently search out and engage with content. It is a medium that gives more context to the audience because they hear your voice. You're a voice that is showing up consistently and as a result, the audience bonds well with you. Some of the biggest benefits of podcasting are:
I think podcasting really comes down to 4 steps. First, you need your show idea, and how you're going to run your episodes. I really suggest that if you're going to start that you commit to 10 episodes. Once you've figured out what you're going to do you have to create the content (this is going to be next episode) and then publish the content and distribute it. Podcasting is still one medium that has room for significant growth, so we're still "early" in my opinion. That combined with the importance of voice search and content in the future, I really think there is tons of upside.
01 Nov 2019 | Episode 180: Making Your Practices Ads More Effective While Keeping Ad Cost Down. | 00:18:51
In Todays Podcast Episode I talk about how to drive your ad cost down and how to ultimately make your veterinary practices marketing and ads more effective. As we are starting to go into the holiday season here we are starting to see seasonal and competition changes coming up, making keeping your ads cost down even more important. These tips I will be sharing in this episode will help you have a great framework for your paid ads and get better cost per results and cost per action. The 3 Things you can do to help lower your ads costs and make your ads more effective are: 1)Having high-quality pieces of content you can mix in along with other content and offers. Like with every piece of content or offer set aside some time to really think about who your client avatar is and who you want to target with your content or offer. Put ads out with intention, think of who your client is, what do they want or need, and why do they need it. Also, think about having a few to up to 12 pieces of pillar content that you can rotate throughout the year. Typically having higher quality content will make for lower cost engagements. 2)Have a great responsive website. Make sure your website is nice looking, easy to use and understand, and has all of your information easy to see. The less time your clients have to take to find your number, address, or hours the better. 3)Build out micro-segments Retargeting a very small niched audience that is specific to the piece of content or offer will also help drive down your ad cost

30 May 2016 | VMP 098: 8 Things To Stop Doing To Do More Effective Marketing For Your Veterinary Hospital | 00:23:17
If you take a look at the past episodes I usually talk about activities that you should try out or things to do, today is a little different! In this episode I cover things that you should stop doing in your veterinary hospital's marketing that will help you to be a better marketer. I think whenever possible it is better to remove than it is to add, because you don't have to do more. So when we're talking about removing from things that you're doing in your veterinary hospital's marketing, the biggest mistake I see is connecting social media accounts. The most common offender is the person who links their Twitter and Facebook accounts. The major problem that I see with this is that each social media platform has its own context and format. Being everywhere isn't necessarily better when what you're doing just looks out of place. Your clients and potential clients aren't dying to follow you just because they take their pet to your practice. You need to provide value and native content makes it far more engaging. Along the same theme of not connecting accounts, don't feel like you have to do EVERY social media platform. It would be great if you could create amazing content for all the social media platforms that your clients spend time on, but if you're like most practices, this isn't realistic. Find out where you'll get the most bang for your buck and really master a social network platform so that your practice actually benefits. I know several practices who are just doing one social network and are doing an amazing job at it. Many practices are using adwords or want to be using adwords and I cover one of the biggest problems most people face when setting up their ads. Luckily, this problem is extremely simple to catch, but most people make this mistake. As more practices start doing ads on paid traffic platforms they'll be running into some of the problems that I cover and I give simple things to stop doing to help your ads run better as well. Make your marketing as simple as possible, and if the more tactics that allow you to take away instead of adding to, the easier it will be to implement for you and your veterinary hospital.

23 Mar 2015 | VMP 036: How One Veterinary Practice Owner Is Succeeding With Social Media and Content Marketing | 00:32:50
In this episode I interview Dr. Braden Collins, from Bunbury Veterinary Clinic in Western Australia about his social media and content marketing. I initially met Dr. Collins from the podcast, when I mentioned I was doing a Facebook case study to get new clients. Dr. Collins was kind enough to let me try some new client acquisition strategies and we've been keeping in touch ever since. Since I was able to run tests in his market I discovered a few things, first his target market on Facebook was around 30,000 people, which isn't that large of an area, and he is consistently reaching a large number of those people and has around 1,500 likes on his page. That is impressive, 5% of his market likes his page! Each post he gets out reaches between 5-10% of his market consistently with a small marketing budget as we discuss on this episode. We talk about everything from content creation, to contests at holidays to reaching out and get his stories covered by local news. Dr. Collins shares a bunch of really great and practical insights that will absolutely help you market your veterinary practice. Be sure to listen to this entire episode!
20 Mar 2024 | VMP 270.5: What Products & Services Should You Use To Market Your Veterinary Practice? | 00:07:29
In one of our latest episodes, we dove deep into a topic that hits close to home for a lot of us in the veterinary field: figuring out how to sift through the endless options of services and products that promise to boost our practices. It's a maze out there, and I'm here to share some of the golden nuggets we uncovered about how to make the best choices for your practice. First off, let's talk about knowing what your practice really needs. It's not just about the bells and whistles of a new product or service; it's about what's going to solve the specific challenges you're facing. Are you struggling to keep clients coming back? You'll need a system that's a pro at tracking and communication. Or maybe you're on a mission to grow your client list – then you're looking for a marketing powerhouse that can get your name out there. It's all about aligning with your goals. But here's the kicker: no product or service is going to be without its flaws. That's why it's crucial to dig into the potential downsides before you commit. Will it play nice with the systems you already have in place? Is it going to take forever for your team to learn? And let's not forget about the cost – are there hidden fees that'll hit you where it hurts? These are the kinds of questions that can save you a lot of headaches down the line. And you know what else? On the podcast, we talked about the importance of supporting small businesses. It's something I'm really passionate about. Choosing to work with smaller companies can often mean better, more personalized service, which can make a world of difference when you're trying to stand out in the veterinary market. So, to wrap it up, picking the right tools and partners for your practice is a big deal. It's about understanding your needs, being aware of potential pitfalls, and ensuring whatever you choose really gels with your operations. Stick to these principles, and you'll be setting your practice up for success. If you're digging these insights and want more where that came from, don't forget to check out the podcast. We're all about helping each other thrive in this industry, so let's keep the conversation going. Catch you on the next episode!
15 May 2018 | VMP 132: How To Distribute Your Veterinary Practice's Podcast | 00:30:48
In the previous two episodes of the podcast we talked about first if you should start a podcast for your veterinary practice and then we talked about the technical nuts and bolts how to start a podcast. In today's episode, I talk about the best ways to get your podcast out there. Podcasts work great as a top of funnel content and because that is the case, it is important to consider how you'll engage your audience. You'll likely want to use the recorded audio to create blog posts around because it can be used for social media, email newsletters as well as give you organic traffic benefits as well. Since you'll be using this content to engage and bring awareness and education to your clients, you'll want to re-market heavily to your audience based on what they're interested in. Use the content as a means to segment your audience and create retargeting lists. One of the drawbacks of podcasting is that you don't get too much data from hosting services about downloads, how long your audience listens and what your subscriber numbers are. As we covered last week, iTunes and Google play are just really feeds that pull data from your hosting, so they don't provide insights. That being said, putting your content on your own channels or turning them into video clips as well can give you more meaningful data. A quick tip for creating your data on your website is to use naming conventions so that you can topically sort your content and create retargeting lists automatically. If you put certain words in the URL that are always related to a certain topic you can have your re-targeting list automatically add that topic, this is done by setting rules within your audiences section in Facebook's ads manager. Along with talking about different ways to partner with brands who can help grow your audience, I cover some of the best ways to target potential subscribers and talk about strategies for growing your subscribers through iTunes and Google Play. I also go into what you should do when trying to take your subscribers through your funnel. If you have any questions or comments let me know!

18 Aug 2021 | Episode 230: Marketing With Video For Your Practice With Craig Spinks From Veteos | 00:49:37
In Today’s Episode, Craig Spinks from Veteos joins me on the podcast to take a deep dive into video marketing for your veterinary practice. We talk all about video and cover video marketing, production, creation, and more. Craig got his start in video production over 20 years ago and has been working exclusively with the vet industry for over the last 5 years creating and producing top notch high quality videos for veterinary practices. Videos for most veterinary practices have been a weak point as video production and creation can come off overwhelming and difficult for busy practices. But videos can be one of the most effective content an marketing mechanisms when done right. Videos have so much benefit to them as they have an additional element than text and that is emotion. Through video you can connect, create bonds, and convey what cant come through text. The great thing about how fast modern day technology moves is how we now have high quality cameras sometimes in our very hands. So while amazing cameras do exist not necessarily are the deal breaker to being able to produce and create high quality content for your practices marketing. Video is a tool you can use in your marketing to reach your practices digital marketing goals. 22 Nov 2022 | VMP 244: Double Your Results With Optimization In Your Veterinary Marketing | 00:17:41
In this episode we talk all about optimization. Optimization is the secret tool that almost no one uses in the bedroom industry when it comes to their marketing. Most practices will set out to create some kind of marketing, whether its content marketing, social marketing or anything else for that matter, they'll execute that and then never think about it again. If you're taking the time to do the act of creating content, ads or something else but not taking time to reflect and make adjustments you're missing out big time! The optimization lets you make dramatic improvements on what you're already doing, and more importantly cut out the stuff that is not working for you and your Veterinary practice. The crazy thing about optimization is that a 2% increase in conversion can lead to a 17% reduction in cost per conversion. Imagine that you're able to decrease the cost it takes to bring in a new client by 17%! You would be dramatically more profitable! In this episode we break down the most crucial things to think about when it comes to optimization that apply to any kinds of marketing. I didn't focus on specific optimization tactics because those are going to be very greatly between what it is that you're doing. Example if you were doing social media marketing optimization for posts his going to look different than if you were doing email marketing. This process really comes down to ensuring that you have proper tracking and analytics set up so that you can make informed decisions on what works and what doesn't. Next you're going to want to test your hypothesis on why something is working to get a better understanding of how your marketing is bringing in clients. If you need help with any of this please don't hesitate to reach out. Let's get in contact! 29 Jan 2018 | VMP 125: Stacee Santi Founder of Vet2Pet on How To Use A Mobile App To Grow Your Practice | 00:33:17
Mobile marketing is becoming more important than ever because of changes that are happening to social media platforms, search engine algorithms and increasing ad prices. Today we have Dr. Stacee Santi from Vet2Pet on the podcast to discuss how she has designed an app to help increase client compliance in practice. It is a great interview and it is well timed because Dr. Santi has just released her 2017 Loyalty report. Apps for small businesses definitely came into fashion around 2014, but back when they first came out, they were primarily built as re-skinned mobile versions of websites that didn't have much functionality. In today's episode, I ask Dr. Santi what she thinks makes an app work inside a practice and some of the key features she has included in her app based on the data that she has collected. A few of the features we really dive into are the selfies that clients can send, which I think is a brilliant marketing idea, reminders, push notifications and loyalty aspects the app can deliver. I love push notifications because it is getting increasingly more difficult to reach clients. When you can send out a notification that is going to actually get read by your client, that is a very strong marketing medium. I think it is also great that you can fill prescriptions and book appointments directly from the app. If you have any questions you should definitely check out Dr. Santi's Facebook page here

28 Sep 2015 | VMP 063: How To Identify Marketing Data That Actually Helps Grow Your Veterinary Practice | 00:27:32
Have you ever though about what actually matters when you are doing content marketing, or direct response marketing? I hear practices tell me all the time, "we've tried that (insert marketing platform) and it doesn't work", but what does that actually mean? In this week's episode I try and help you determine what kind of marketing results you should be focusing on and one type of result that you shouldn't be worrying about, which I call Vanity Metrics. Vanity Metrics can be things like, impressions, reach sometimes "likes" or re-tweets, basically anything that on the surface seems impressive, but when you dive deeper you discover that it isn't really producing anything. When the metrics you are following are just activity based rather than results based is when you can get into difficulty with your marketing. A lot of times too, these kinds of results seem impressive or exciting, but they don't help to drive clients in to your practice. I will say that there is always difficulty in trying to figure out what the ROI of your marketing is or should be. I think that a lot of times in social media when you are building community, educating clients or creating engagement that it can be difficult to quantify the result in terms of ROI but you should be able to quantify the engagement and drill down into what meaningful engagement actually looks like. For example posting an educational article that you are doing solely for educational purposes and then to have no one like, comment share and you get a low click through rate would be pretty easy to identify as a loser. Creating marketing with the end goal in mind will help you be a better marketer and allow you to generate better results. Instead of saying "This marketing doesn't work" you'll be able to find out what part isn't working, correct it and create success.
20 Jul 2015 | VMP 053: Jane Dawkins On How To Use Storytelling to Create A Personal Brand | 00:36:14
Helping clients feel like they know your brand or veterinary practice can be a difficult task and what can help create a brand that is personal and interactive is good storytelling. On today's episode I talk with Jane Dawkins on the show today who is Marketing Communications Officer, Ontario Veterinary College University of Guelph and one of the reasons that I wanted her on the show is that I’m a huge fan of her work. She is constantly producing awesome content on the OVC’s social media platforms and so I wanted to get her take on marketing. What I think she is doing a great job at is that she is consistently producing great content and creating a brand around her storytelling. I think there are some great applications in that for veterinary practices, first she is taking something tends to be kind of impersonal and making it personal. This is a problem that every veterinary hospital faces and is something that good storytelling can solve. She also is working with students who are doing a great job at creating personal brands as well. So we get in to a bunch of really interesting topics and it was really fun to have her on. There is something for everyone on today's podcast, whether you are a practice owner, an employee or even are still in Vet School. Items Mentioned in Today's Episode:

26 Jun 2024 | VMP 277: Dr. Glenn Robinson Shares How Veterinary Practices Can Build Strong Teams and Attract the Right Clients | 00:54:32
In this episode, I have an amazing conversation with Dr. Glenn Robinson from Southwest Veterinary Solutions. We really dig into what it takes to build a thriving veterinary practice, touching on everything from creating effective teams and fostering a strong clinic culture to attracting the right clients and talent. Dr. Robinson brings a wealth of experience to the table and shares some incredibly actionable advice that I think you'll find invaluable. One of the key points Dr. Robinson emphasizes is the importance of having a clear mission, vision, and core values. These aren't just buzzwords; they are the guiding principles that shape your entire team and help attract clients and staff who truly resonate with your practice's ethos. We also talk about the importance of setting achievable goals. Whether it's a long-term five-year plan or a short-term 90-day action plan, having clear objectives ensures continuous progress and keeps everyone on the same page. Tune in to hear more from Dr. Robinson and get ready to implement some game-changing strategies in your practice!
15 Jan 2018 | VMP 123: Does Digital Marketing Still Work For Your Veterinary Practice? | 00:30:03
Today's episode comes after Facebook's January 11, 2018, business page algorithm update news. This is some really big news for all businesses who use Facebook to reach their customer base. I cover what I think this algorithm change means for veterinary practices and I cover why I think you shouldn't completely panic. The bad news is that likely you're going to have to start paying to get ANY distribution from your Facebook page after what came down from Facebook's press release. The good news is, this occurrence of rules completely changing isn't anything new. Ever since the advent of modern advertising, marketers have been ruining every medium they've touched. From print ads to radio to TV marketers go out and find ways to be creative and sell, until it gets overdone and then is no longer effective. Facebook is no different from other mediums, and this zero organic engagement has been a long time coming. It is also important to realize this isn't the first time Facebook has changed the rules for marketers. I've been advertising since 2009 on Facebook and if you haven't been marketing since then, you would be amazed at what we used to be allowed to do on business pages. They used to let you message all of your page fans, add them to events, and more back when they called them fans. I say all this to let you know this isn't the end of Facebook. All platforms and mediums go through this, and hopefully the work that Facebook is doing to improve user experience will make the platform a better place. The better user experience that Facebook creates will give you a better shot at reach current and potential clients with paid ads and content. There are a lot of uncertainties, but if you learn to work within the system and rules we get, you'll be able to out work the competition. Remember, every veterinary practice is facing the same set of difficulties that you are, so this kind of volatility gives you the opportunity to stand out and grow your business, the only downside is the gravy train is over from an organic distribution standpoint.
07 Feb 2017 | VMP 112: How To Simplify Your Veterinary Marketing For More Success | 00:20:36
Have you ever felt stuck in your practice's marketing? Maybe you're not quite sure what approach you should take with a post, or an ad or maybe you have no clue what you should be doing as a post. In today's episode I cover how to approach marketing so that you don't ever wonder what you should do with your marketing. Today we break down anything you can do in marketing, whether it is creating content, driving traffic to a landing page, boosting a post, creating and sending an email, and show you how to approach it in a simple way. In any marketing or content creation that you are going to do you can really break it into 4 steps. First we need to figure out who you'll be marketing to, then we'll choose what the content that would be appropriate would be. From there, we'll choose the appropriate medium and the correct call to action. Any time you make a piece of content or an ad you are just trying to move a person in a specific direction. When you send an email for example, if you break it down into the most simple elements, it isn't difficult to figure out how to write compelling content that gets people into your practice. In this episode, I also cover what I've been up to in my short break I've taken from the podcast. I really hope to bring you the most value possible with the podcast, and I'll be resuming weekly publishing. I was incredibly busy and I didn't want the podcast to be pushed out just for the sake of publishing. If there is ever anything you need help with, or some topics you would like for me to cover just let me know. Send me a message on my Facebook page or to brandon@veterinarymarketingpodcast.com I really appreciate everyone who listens, and I love hearing from listeners, so don't be a stranger!
24 Jun 2019 | Episode 164:How To Generate Clients In Your Practice With Offers | 00:15:43
Getting new clients into your practice and converting into loyal clients is your ultimate goal in growing your veterinary practice. If you want to drive clients into your practice for specific treatments, limited time specials, or even products offers are what are going to drive them in. In today's episode, I give you some tips on how to generate new clients into your veterinary practice by using offers. I'll cover how to make your offer compelling to have higher conversion rates, why offers are important, and how to help improve your offers. Offers are promises you are making to your clients to provide value into their lives. In your offer, you should be showing your clients their before state and how your offer is going to help go to their after state. Tap into the emotions of why your potential clients need this offer in their lives to make things easier or better for them. Terms on offers should be both simple and easy to understand and be simply conveyed. Making terms too difficult and too hard to work around will drive clients away. Call to Actions should also be simple and easy for clients to accept the offer, no jumping through hoops. Choose an easy method to claim your offer. Make the call to action clear and visible in multiple places. Give your clients the who, what, when, where, why, and how of the offer. An important thing to add to your offers landing pages are reviews from your actual clients right in front of their eyes. Reviews help bring logic into an emotional decision by helping justify our decisions. Show potential clients that you are trusted by many and good at what you do. Be sure to listen and let me know if you have any questions, comments or need help with anything!
08 Jun 2015 | VMP 047: How To Create Landing Pages For Your Veterinary Practice | 00:26:03
In past episodes I've talk about using landing pages, but have never really gone over how to create landing pages for your veterinary practice, and this episode changes that! In this episode I discuss what elements your landing pages should have, and the best way to approach landing pages in general. The three types of pages that I go over are:
There are unique applications for each of these landing pages and I talk about how and when to use each. One thing that practices also overlook is that they try to go to far too fast, so I discuss how to create a lasting relationship with your client so that you can build trust, rapport and then ask for your client to use you for a product or service.
06 Sep 2023 | VMP 256.5: Get Better Conversion With These 2 Behavior Levers | 00:03:54
In this episode, I'm super excited to share some awesome insights from our latest episode, where we dived deep into the fascinating world of loss aversion and how it can be harnessed in marketing and copywriting. Loss aversion is a psychological principle that suggests people are more motivated to avoid loss than to gain something. Think about it this way: losing $100 feels way worse than finding $100 feels good. This fear of loss can be a powerful motivator for people to take action. But here's the thing, we need to balance loss aversion with the potential for gain. We're not about fear mongering here, but rather framing offers in a way that highlights the potential benefits and the consequences of inaction. In addition to loss aversion, we also discussed three other levers that can be used in marketing: the gain lever, the logic lever, and the fear lever. The gain lever focuses on what can be obtained from taking action, like having a healthier and happier pet. The logic lever explains why taking action is important, such as how regular dental care is crucial for a dog's overall health and longevity. And the fear lever highlights what will happen if action is not taken, like the potential for serious health issues due to neglecting a dog's dental health. Sprinkling a bit of status, like the prestige of owning a healthy pet, can also be effective. So, my friend, loss aversion, when used ethically and strategically, can be a game-changer in your marketing efforts. By understanding and applying this principle, along with the three levers of marketing, you can improve response rates and create more effective offers. Remember, it's not about scaring people, but rather motivating action by highlighting the potential gains and logical reasons for taking action. Give it a try in your marketing strategies and see the difference it can make.

23 Jul 2016 | VMP 105: How To Use Opportunity Marketing In Your Veterinary Practice | 00:21:39
Today's episode is all about marketing opportunities that arise on a daily basis. The idea in today's episode is that there is always something great going on around you to create awesome, relevant, entertaining and engaging content and offers. What brought on this episode is a lot of practice have been doing a great job at using Pokemon Go as something to drive engagement on Facebook and other social media. There are tons of times you can use Opportunity marketing to gain new clients and grow your veterinary practice's brand. A key consideration before you begin is to stay up to date with what is going on in the world. World events, new technology, news stories are all great examples of opportunities to create marketing campaigns that are relevant. You need to keep in front of your clients as much as possible and by using opportunity you're being relevant and timely so that you don't seem annoying. If you had someone knocking on your door every day asking if you wanted to buy something you'ld probably grow annoyed of them, and in the same way you can promote your veterinary hospital's brand without having to directly be in their face. Sometimes opportunity marketing can go wrong too though. If it is too much of a stretch then it could go very wrong. I saw a real estate company who was using Pokemon Go as a reason why someone should buy a house. The comments were terrible because they were just trying to hop on the bandwagon and use the momentum from the app's popularity. Often times there is so much noise out there, especially with trending items that simply adding to the noise doesn't help at all. Make sure that you have the right intent, to server and provide value to clients and you won't have to worry about being perceived as salesy. I cover many examples of what you can do to create opportunity marketing and what stages of the client funnel you should use each example for. As always, be sure to let me know if you have any questions or comments!
17 Aug 2023 | VMP 254: The One Secret That Makes Marketing Your Veterinary Practice Successful | 00:21:54
In this episode, I want to dive deep into a recent episode where we tackled one of the biggest challenges faced by veterinary hospitals when it comes to marketing their practice: communicating value. You see, it's not enough to just offer services. It's all about how those services are perceived by your clients. Many practices believe they can't discount their services and feel the need to offer premium options. While being premium can give you a competitive advantage, it's crucial to understand what your clients truly care about and how your practice addresses their concerns. In our discussion, I introduced the concept of the four levers of value: the outcome and dream outcome, the perceived likelihood of achieving the outcome, and the time, effort, and money required. Effective marketing involves amplifying the dream outcome and perceived likelihood while reducing the perceived time, effort, and money required. To differentiate your practice from the competition, it's important to empathize with your clients and understand their desired outcomes. By framing the benefits of your services in terms of avoiding potential problems or improving quality of life, you can motivate clients to take action. Testimonials, specific claims, and guarantees can also help build trust and increase the perceived likelihood of success. But it's not just about the messaging. Practices can also make it easier for clients by offering convenient appointments, mobile services, or advanced procedures. By communicating your values and philosophy of medicine, you can attract like-minded clients who see the value beyond just the cost. If you want to dive deeper into these strategies and connect with other veterinary marketing nerds, I invite you to join our Veterinary Marketing Nerds community. 11 Jan 2020 | Episode 188: How To Start Using Text Message Marketing For Your Veterinary Practice | 00:22:57
In Todays Episode I share how to incorporate text message marketing into your veterinary practice. Using text messaging marketing provides so much potential to your practice however it is very underused in the veterinary industry. Adding text message marketing into your marketing for your veterinary practice is a great way to increase communication with your clients in a convenient way. I also go over the best ways to collect phone numbers from your clients, build up your text messaging lists, what tools to use, and more. Keep in mind the process of text messaging marketing 1)Having and collecting numbers to text The best ways to collect numbers to text are through patient records, your practices veterinary software, keyword text, and web forms on your site to opt-in. Be sure that everyone receiving your text messages are aware they have opted in to receive texts. 2)Building your lists You can use your CRM and text message marketing together. Using tools like Twilio to connect your CRM and text together. Having a keyword clients can text to instantly opt in to your list is also a good option to growing your text message marketing list. 3)Send out messages either broadcast or conversational Twilio and many chat are great tools to use for text messaging marketing. Broadcast messages are a way to alerts your lists about upcoming specials, offers, deals, and events. Conversational is a 2-way conversation with the recipient. Many chat is a great option for this as you have a chatbot that has an automated response in a short amount of time. Also sending out appointment reminders is a great way to get clients through the door that haven't been in a while. Be sure to listen and let me know if you have any questions, comments or need help with anything!

So often, you'll hear the word authenticity turn around when it comes to creating content and building a brand oh, but what does that actually mean? I really liked Rhonda's examples of how to figure out what you want to be about and then how to communicate that. Ronda also has some really great insight into creating additional streams of income, which I think is incredibly powerful, especially because there's a huge need when it comes to Brands reaching consumers All Brands reaching other Veterinary professionals

15 Mar 2016 | VMP 087: How To Run Split Tests On Your Veterinary Practice's Marketing | 00:29:08
Marketing is both an art and a science. Sometimes you'll put together a piece of content or an ad and you think that it is going to be massively successful, but then once it gets out in front of your clients it bombs. What makes an ad, a piece of content or an email work? If I had the definitive answer I probably would be too busy diving Scrooge McDuck style into piles of gold coins. Since I (and almost ever person on the planet) can't be sure what will work the best testing is necessary. Running split tests to determine what elements work is an intelligent approach to marketing because there is always something that you can improve upon. How do you decide what you should test first? In today's episode I cover how to pick what item you should test, how to create a list of all the things you think you should test and then how to prioritize those items. Since you're testing things, obviously you should be able to pick a winner. The only way you can pick a winner is if you are actually measuring your traffic, so if you don't have the ability to look at your practice's analytics page, start there! You should be able to choose a goal or an objective that the test should be built around. So having a higher conversion rate, a higher open rate, higher click through rate or maybe increased time on site would be all good examples of a clear goal that you could create a test around. Once you choose what you're going to test, make sure to only test a single element so that once the test is complete you'll be able to say what factor contributed to a higher or lower goal rate. Sometimes you won't have a clear winner, and in those cases I cover what you should do. Testing can really help you to improve conversion, even on pages that don't get paid traffic. So if you or your practice has any digital assets, this episode will help you to be more effective, which in turn helps you to help more pets!

19 Mar 2021 | Episode 221: How Google Ads New Privacy Policy Changes Will Affect Your Ads | 00:16:46
In Todays Episode I share the very important and rapidly changing privacy policies that are going to affect how we run ads in the future. With Google following Apple's lead with IOS 14 Privacy changes we are going to see even more changes from these ad platforms and possibly others too. As we have talked about in previous episodes their is a privacy battle going on between Facebook, Apple, and Google. Apple made the announcement with IOS 14 that they would no longer allow pixel tracking, which Facebook gathers most of its data from. In 2019 Google announced that it would in the future no longer allow third party cookie tracking on Google chrome browsers. Now Cookie tracking (short pieces of javascript code) would only be allowed for first party cookies (owned by the website owner from an independent source) and not third party cookies (from advertisers like Facebook). Google has now announced on March 3rd that they are changing their rules and will no longer be using the data they have collected from first party cookies anymore. Google is now creating a new system that provides better options for them and their services and products. Which in turn will give google ad users even more options with their advertising. Which for many users who are using Facebook and Instagram exclusively it may be time to diversify your ad platforms for your digital marketing. Be sure to register for the upcoming chat marketing webinar training Here where we will show you in-depth how to set up and use chat marketing for your veterinary practice. As we get further into the holiday and political season we are starting to see more and more competitors in the paid ad space in turn driving up ad prices. 03 Apr 2017 | VMP 116: How To Use Chatbots To Grow Your Practice On Facebook | 00:25:26
I think I've found my new favorite tool! This week's episode I dive into how to use Chatbots to engage your Facebook audience like never before. I don't like to sound hypey, but I think this is one of the best things to come to Facebook so far. If you haven't noticed, Facebook has been doing a ton of work in regards to its messenger product. They've updated their daily stories that expire in 24 hours very similar to Snapchat and Instagram stories. They have also introduced masks and geofilters through their messenger. In today's marketing climate, whenever you can be first to a new feature you are typically able to reach users very effectively and for a very low cost. That is why I think that this messenger bot feature is an amazing opportunity for veterinary practices. Your clients are spending time on Facebook, and right now their messenger is only used for personal use. Think about it, how do you use messenger? Probably sending funny, informational or valuable stuff to your friends right? This is why I'm seeing it as so effective, if you can get the permission to get into your clients messenger. So how does Facebook Messenger Bots fit into this? There is a new tool that I've been testing out called Manychat.com. What Manychat.com does is gives you tools to build a messenger subscriber list and engage them either automatically or manually. Think about it like have a sophisticated email marketing system that allows you to deliver automated sequences, broadcasts or rule based messages to your clients. Oh and it is FREE! Free for the basic features, and for the premium features the price starts at 10/month! In today's episode I dive into how to build subscribers, how to use the automation tools and what some possible uses for Facebook Messenger are. Here is a quick overview: You can build subscriber lists through website widgets, comments on posts, messages through Facebook and Messenger Ads! There are logic based bots you can easily build using keywords, for example, if someone says "hours" or "open" in a message to your practice you can have an auto response set up to send when you are open. Responses can have anything from links, to files to even a button that calls a phone number directly. You can tag and created highly segmented lists based on how people interact with your messenger. You can also add tags manually. Creating segmented lists gives you the ability to deliver very relevant offers to your clients, which will drive more clients in. Right now the cost to add subscribers is incredibly low and my open rates are sky high! So be sure to listen all the way through and please let me know if you have any questions!
29 Jun 2015 | VMP 050:Dr. Peter Weinstein On How To Work On Your Veterinary Practice, Not Just In Your Practice | 00:30:37
People who work inside the veterinary industry are some of the most knowledgeable and passionate people I have ever encountered. They spend years getting trained to do their job, but one area of training that veterinarians don't receive is how to run their veterinary practice from a business standpoint. This industry is unique because the people working in practices have to provide care to several different species and have to treat everything from emergencies to standard preventative care. Often times this causes practice owners to get so tied up being a technician in their business that they don't have time to work on growing an actual business, and this is what the E-Myth tries to help with. This week's episode I have Dr. Peter Weinstein as a guest to talk about his new book, The E-Myth Veterinarian. Dr. Peter Weinstein is the executive director of the SCVMA, a speaker, and consultant. He explains how veterinarians spend so much time in vet school to become a really good practitioner or technician, but what is really lacking is business training. So often I hear people in the industry say, if you provide good care then that's all that matters, but the truth is that along with great service and care you need to spend time running the business and being the business owner. It is true that you have to do good work to retain clients, but the thing is, the practice down the street is likely filled with veterinary professionals who love animals just as much as you do. Caring more than the other practice won't cut it, you need strategies and systems to help grow your practice. In this podcast I usually just cover marketing, but in this episode, Dr. Weinstein shares his insight from years of working in practices that are really powerful. Marketing and branding needs to take place not just in your advertising or social media but you need to have consistency once someone makes it into the practice as well. We also cover how much you should actually know about marketing and advertising to be effective, the benefits of being pro active VS reacting to everything that comes up and how to often you should be thinking about marketing in your practice.
27 Apr 2015 | VMP 041: SEO For Your Veterinary Practice Part 1 | 00:29:40
Almost everyone these days knows about SEO because SEO (or search engine optimization for those of you living under a rock) is an extremely important part of your veterinary practice's traffic. Online search through Google, Bing or Yahoo has become a part of life and has completely changed the way that people make purchases. In fact, now over 85% of people use online search to help make a buying decision in most of their purchases. So in this series about Search Engine Optimization, I'm trying to make SEO less mysterious and remove the misconceptions about what makes for good SEO and what you need to be avoiding. In this episode, part 1, I'll be covering more conceptual items. I'll tell you everything from how search engines work to how to get started and figure out what kind of keywords you want to be targeting. I also cover the different types of search queries people make and which ones are the most important for you to focus on for your practice. Everyone who does marketing for their practice will one time or another need to know how to speak the SEO language and at least have a basic understanding of how SEO works. I can't tell you how many times I've heard practice managers say "I need to call my web development company, they promised I would be in the first spot with my site" and think to myself, they have no idea what SEO actually is! After this series you should be able to either create a SEO plan for yourself, or if DIY SEO isn't for you, be able to speak intelligently with a SEO company to know what is possible and realistic.

Frequently Asked Questions - Create content that focuses and centers around commonly asked questions for new clients and even existing clients to help ease any confusion with anything they may be concerned about. Onboarding and Follow Up Sequences - with whatever medium you chose to use you send out important parts of information to your clients. Scheduling is your next step to streamlining your marketing you should be scheduling both content production and when to put out content. Tools to use to schedule out your content that I recommend to use are Hootsuite, MeetEdgar, and AgoraPulse.Creating a content silo that is filled with all your content that you have to put out across platforms will be able to save you so much time. Now while there are a ton of great thing you can automate and schedule there are just 2 things you should never automate! Comment and reviews and Customer service help, you should be monitoring and responding to all of these things personally to ensure your practice's marketing maintains the human touch. Be sure to listen and let me know if you have any questions, comments or need help with anything!
08 Jul 2016 | VMP 103: The Conversion Checklist To Increase Conversion At Your Veterinary Practice | 00:21:31
Conversion can be especially tricky for veterinary practices. When you have a practice website and mesh it together with all the social media, it can be difficult to turn that attention and traffic into actual clients. In this episode I cover some best practices that will help you to increase conversion. Anytime that you can increase your veterinary practice's conversion any marketing you do will have a better return on investment. Your website is pretty much a multi-tool, kinda like a swiss army knife. It needs to do lots of different things based on what the person using the site is looking to do. Increasing conversion often times simply means making the website or marketing you are doing more user friendly and easier to navigate. Any time that you can make it easier for clients to find information quickly, or reduce the number of steps that a client needs to take you'll be able to see an increase in those actions. An important item to consider when you're looking at your website, or any marketing piece for that matter, should be to think what the purpose or goal you're trying to achieve. Simplifying your pages and marketing pieces so that are trying to achieve just one objective. When you go to the dentist, you're just looking for the dentist to do dental work, if they mentioned you can get an oil change at the same time, you would probably be alarmed. Web pages are the same way and so are marketing campaigns. If you're sending traffic that is trying to convert visitors into clients, sending them to your home page doesn't cut it. Once a person gets to your home page, they have to evaluate your services, your reviews and then figure out how to book an appointment if they have the time to go through the whole process of figuring out if they want to do business with you. A better way is sending a specific targeted flow of traffic to a specific offer that is easy to understand and evaluate and then gives a specific way for your client to opt in. The good and bad part of conversion is that you're never finished! Testing has to continue on and there is always room for improvement. Let me know if you test any of the tips that I cover and how they work for you!
05 Oct 2015 | VMP 064: 3 New Digital Marketing Updates You Need To Check Out | 00:30:43
Digital marketing is changing faster than ever! It is crazy, but also really exciting because I feel like we're in the golden age of marketing. Highly sophisticated marketing tools and techniques are available to everyone now, if you are able to keep up to date, which is what this week's episode is for. There have been some really big updates, and so this episode is about whats new and what you need to be keeping your eye out for. The three areas that I'll be covering in today's episode are: Snapchat's update, The Facebook Business Manager and why I think it is time for you and your practice to switch over to that, and lastly Instagram ads! I've been really excited for Instagram ads, and I'll definitely be doing a full episode on Instagram here shortly. The release of Snapchat's new facial recognition animation is a really big deal I think. Even though on the surface it might look pretty silly or not that important I think it is big for a few reasons. First let's talk about something that is important to think about when you're approaching social media, which is when should you start considering a platform/app/social media outlet so that you're not always chasing the next shiny object. Marketing is a pretty predictable pattern now, although it is unlike anything we've ever seen in history so far. Typically in the past, the established older generation would control the distribution of content, IE Radio/TV/Newspaper, but now the youth are driving what is cool and interesting with respect to content creation and consumption. So you'll get a platform like Facebook, where it is adopted by the younger generation, it comes to a point where it is adopted by older generations and finally you have days like for the first time last month there were a billion people logging in. Amazing! Social networks work like that, you get youth going finding new things, they put their attention there, eventually more people adopt and integrate and when you have the attention of a large number of people you get advertisers. So in any social network you have the opportunity to grow your brand before all the advertisers migrate over and hopefully you can really engage and attract clients before advertising becomes really established. Facebook is definitely reaching maturity in its ad platform, but places like Snapchat are still in a way that you can be early to the game. The next update that I think everyone needs to get on is the Facebook Business Manager, which you can find at Business.facebook.com. Here you can access a bunch of really cool features and you definitely get a different feel than just using the standard Facebook Ad Manager. The reason why I think it is great to use the business manager is because if you have mulitple people using and posting to the account you'll be able to easily manage them here. You'll also be able to access the custom audiences, the new pixels and most importantly add your Instagram account. If you hadn't heard, Instagram is rolling out ads, and this is HUGE! I've been waiting for Instagram ads forever, and they're finally here! In order to advertise on Instagram you need to add your Instagram account to your business manager. You can do this by going to settings and clicking on Instagram account. Facebook continues to innovate and do an amazing job with their ad product, so it is so so so so so exciting to see the same demographic choices available within the power editor to create Instagram placements. I'll definitely be doing an Instagram episode here in the near future. The definite theme of the episode this week is that you need to be working on becoming a practitioner of these digital marketing platforms. See how people are using the social networks, how they interact with brands, and how they engage and comment on ads. If you can see people who are having success, duplicate what they have and cut down the time on the learning curve. One thing to really take note of is what makes people angry so that you can avoid doing harm when you go to a new platform. 11 Feb 2019 | Episode 147: 7 Important Questions To Help Clarify Your Marketing Messaging | 00:20:29
In today's episode, I go over 7 important questions to help make your marketing clearer. A common problem I often see in veterinary practices is that they will talk about their practice in a way that makes sense to them but really fails to show clients what the actual benefits of their practice are. These 7 questions will help you be able to convey what really sets you apart from other practices and what benefits your clients will be gaining by coming to your practice. The first question is What does your practice stand for? Another way to look at this question is what is your practice's mission? What does your practice stand against? What are some things your practice doesn't agree with? is it a fearful environment or overcrowding in kennel spaces? be sure to make it known in a beneficial way what negative attributes your practice does not have. What is your practice purpose? What is the main purpose of your practice and what are you trying to help your clients achieve with the care of their pets What is your unique selling proposition? What makes you unique and stand out from other practices around you? Who is your ideal target or client? Take a few of your favorite clients and make some new ideal clients for your practice using a client avatar and use those ideal clients as who you are writing to in your ads. What are their pain points? What are some of the struggles your clients face day to day with the care of their pets? What is the solution to their pain points? What solutions to your client's pain point do you offer in your veterinary practice? An important element to remember while answering these questions is to focus more on sharing the beneficial aspects that your clients will be able to experience coming into your practice. Be sure to listen and let me know if you have any questions, comments or need help with anything!
10 Sep 2019 | Episode 175: How To Choose & Identify Offers That Your Customers Will Actually Want. | 00:16:57
If you are doing content creation by yourself in your practices digital marketing you probably aren't sure what exactly you should be promoting or marketing to your clients to get them into your practice. In today's episode, I talk about how to really identify the aspects of your business and which offers you should be focusing on to try and drive new clients to your veterinary practice. When creating content for your veterinary practice you are going to want to create and have content about topics that relevant to what people in the industry are talking about or what clients and customers are concerned or curious about. Create content about hot topics at the moment that gives your clients information about topics that are important to them. Now, what should you be creating content around? what kind of offers should you be promoting? and how do you monetize your content? You ultimately want to create content that lets you attract and engage with clients so you can create ROI through your content. Your content needs to built and centered around a specific offer so you can retarget people that are specifically interested in that topic and offer. Ask yourself how can you develop something different to separate yourself from other veterinary practices in the crowd or even pet stores or online stores and how you can make your offer more effective? think about what makes your practice different from everyone else and what sets you apart. Using your knowledge and share that with your clients. Also, package your offers in a way that is extremely valuable to your customers. Outline what they get why they need it, and how it will improve or provide value to their lives
Be sure to listen and let me know if you have any questions, comments or need help with anything!

30 Nov 2015 | VMP 072: How Pixels Can Grow Your Veterinary Practice | 00:34:41
Today's episode is going to be a little bit advanced, but stick with me here, I think it is really worth the effort to at least understand the marketing concepts that we're going to be talking about. In fact, I think that the subject of today's podcast is likely the best opportunity that there is to market your veterinary practice. Today we're talking about Facebook Pixels. So What Are Pixels? Pixels are pieces of javascript code that Facebook provides. You put the Facebook pixel in the head section o your webpage so that when someone visits the site, the piece of javascript runs or "fires" and you are now able to track the person who is visiting that page or the event that just occurred. So pixels allow you to do two main things, one is build lists of audiences who have viewed certain pages or pieces of content that you create and/or they allow you to track and optimize ads for events like newsletter opt ins, form opt ins, purchases, cart abandons and other things. In the past, with Facebook pixels you had to create unique pieces of code every time you wanted to either create a new list to market to or track an event, but Facebook has recently changed the way pixels work. Now you get a base pixel that is standard for, the way you customize them for event tracking is by placing a little identifier that Facebook provides for you to copy and paste into your base code. So once you copy and past your pixel into your veterinary hospitals web pages, what can you do then? This is where some marketing strategy comes into play. By using segmented content built around offers that you have at your veterinary. It is really easy (at least comparatively) to get people to click and consume content instead of getting people to actually opt in to something to build your marketing list, so using pixels allows you to create segmented interest based lists without having people opt in.
03 May 2016 | VMP 094: Marketing Tricks & Tips For The Time Crunched Veterinary Marketer | 00:27:29
One of the biggest problems I see with veterinary professionalsface is that they have so many things to do that getting marketingdone is sometimes difficult. It totally makes sense too, veterinaryhospitals deal with so much and often times the person doing themarketing has a ton of other work to do as well. In today episode,I cover tricks and strategies that will help you to get yourveterinary practice's marketing done more efficiently. Any time I start working with new clients or on my ownprojects in marketing the most difficult part of the creationof any digital marketing is just getting started. One thingI've found that helps me create content, ads, or any digitalmarketing as quickly as possible is having a media library storedon my hard drive. I create nearly all of my marketing materials onthe same computer, so having a central place where everything fromlogos to different lead magnets stored where I can easily findthem helps me to save so much time. Along with having digital assets set up in a specific place, Ialso really like having a production calendar completed as well.Knowing what you're going to create and having a game plan for whenads, landing pages and content needs to be created makes working onthe marketing a lot easier. I like having all of the relevantcontent and offers I can include in a single place so that I knowwhat to create and what the objective will be. Templates are a tremendous time saver as well. Whether it istemplated ads, copy, landing pages or images having a framework forwhat you're creating makes it way easier and faster as well. Anewer tool that I've only recently started using is adespresso.com.If you are doing any kind of Facebook ads, this tool makes it quickand easy! Whenever possible, turn your marketing work into systems thatare easy for you use to use.

24 May 2016 | VMP 097: How To Attract Clients With Digital Marketing Without Discounts | 00:23:42
Discounting can be quite a trap. If you use discounting in your practice too much, you'll attract clients who only care about price. Competing only on price is a difficult, especially if the digital marketing that you are doing is centered around discounts because it usually attracts the kind of clients you are not looking for. I am by no means suggesting that you price gouge or go crazy on price, but wanting to attract clients who pay you what you feel you're worth is totally understandable. So how do you go about attracting clients without using discounts? In today's episode I cover 5 strategies you can use in your digital marketing that don't include discounting. I think it is important to understand why discounting can be harmful to your practice, and so in the first part of the episode I cover why discounting hurts your brand in general. There have been so many examples of companies competing only on price and I outline a few examples so we can see how this race to the bottom doesn't end well for either of the competing companies. Veterinary practices have more competition than ever, with corporate chains, discount big box stores, amazon, other discount websites and more vets than ever in the industry. There will always be people who are willing to work for cheaper so it is extremely important to find out how to compete on other factors. So how can you compete without going for the easy discount? People will come to your practice for two reasons: Results or Experience. They want a specific result meaning for example they think that you can fix their sick pet, or maybe they know that you are the most caring highest rated vet and they want to be part of that experience. Knowing those two factors play a role in why people want to come to you you can create offers that include the following features too:
You can get away from discounting you just need to work at it!
15 Sep 2014 | VMP 009: VMP 009: An Interview With A Web Developer On How To Make A Website That Wins! | 00:36:28
In this episode I interview Jared Cullop and Brian Macrae on how to create a website that helps your practice grow. Your website really is the backbone of your marketing and can help you drive clients through the door, but it has to be done right. Jared is the owner of JCI Marketing and not only is his company a web development company but they also do beautiful web design, SEO, branding, and social media management. Jared is not only veterinary specific but also handles a large variety of other small business web sites, and I think this is important because most of the time people in the veterinary industry only hear from veterinary specific companies. Jared shares some great insight into what it takes to make your site the very best so that it can beat the competition and really work to grow revenue at your practice. Brian Macrae from Rethink Veterinary Solutions also offers some great insight because he has seen hundreds of veterinary websites and branding and sees areas in the industry that need to be addressed.

26 Apr 2016 | VMP 093: How To Create Referral Partners Using Digital Marketing | 00:23:45
Who wouldn't want more referrals to their veterinary practice? In today's episode, I cover strategies that will help you to create referral partners who can help create new clients in your practice. The strategies I cover will work if you are a standard small animal practice or if you're a specialty practice. The first step in find people to refer you clients is to think about where your potential clients are spending time and who they're already doing business with. The potential referral partners don't necessarily have to be veterinary related, but they definitely can. Go through an exercise of writing down all the possible people who could refer you new clients. Some examples of people who could refer you are groomers, specialty acupuncture or laser services, trainers and pretty much anyone you can think of who comes in contact with pets or pet owners. It should be pretty easy to think about certain segments of your practice where you might not offer services and look to find referral partners. So once you think about who you want to partner with, how do you find them? I cover the best ways to find these potential connections on Linkedin and Facebook. Once you find the person, then what do you say? I have found that treating online connections like in person connections or meetings works really well. Ask them about their job, experience or just introduce yourself. A good way to break the ice is to ask them to do an interview for you once you've vetted the potential contact and their web presence. Once you have people who you can do cross promotion with, it is just a matter of coming up with new topics and ideas to promote. Find people who have engaged client bases and offer value to those people! It is really pretty simple, and it is one of the best ways possible to grow your business.

28 Mar 2017 | VMP 115: 9 Super Simple Email Tricks To Boost Your Email Open Rate | 00:19:24
In case you didn't know, I love email! You should love email too! Email is a great tool to communicate with clients for a bunch of reasons. First, it is media that you actually own, which is so important in the current digital marketing landscape where algorithm updates and platform policy changers can make your distribution dry up literally overnight. Owned media is consistent, it lets you be in control of what you put in front of your clients, and when you get to put it out there. Email has tons of other benefits, from creating lookalike audiences to using it in retargeting and building lists, but this episode isn't about how to create or grow an email marketing list, it is about how to get your emails opened more often. Chances are your veterinary practice has an email list that you've been building, and if you haven't started this, stop what you're doing here and get started building that list! Most practices could keep themselves fully booked simply by adding an email marketing strategy to what they're doing, but it would only work if you can get get that email opened. So how do we increase email open rates? It is actually pretty simple, but first consider a few things. The average adult in the US receives 121 emails a day! That is a ton of noise that you need to cut through to be heard. To help you increase your open rates I go over some of the following topics:
Everything in this podcast episode today can be easily implemented in your next email, so be sure to listen all the way through. Let me know what you think!

Danielle K. Lambert is a social media coach and veterinary practice manager. 20 Dec 2018 | VMP 143: The Biggest Marketing Lessons I learned In 2018 | 00:16:34
2018 was a really crazy year for marketing! There was so much volatility, loss of engagement on platforms and crazy changes that took place. In total, I managed just over 240,000 in ad spend on Facebook and just of 260,000 in ad spend on AdWords, and quite a bit of that being veterinary practice's ad budget. I share some of the most important lessons that I learned and talk about what I think you should do to improve your veterinary practice's marketing in 2019 and beyond. 2018 started off with a huge shift in Facebook distribution for business pages on January 19th 2018 algorithm change. This change really set the stage for the whole year and reminded me how important it was to be a multi-channel marketer. Changes will only continue to come down the pipeline from our big ad network providers. Social media channels are becoming increasingly more crowded as more and more advertisers fight for the same set of eyeballs. If you don't have an email list, it is time to start! Email will continue to be one of the most effective marketing tools that you get to own and control. 19 Oct 2022 | VMP 241: How To Create A Client Generation System For Your Veterinary Hospital | 00:19:34
Most better hospitals don't have client generation systems in place. The proof is when things slow down all of a sudden they ask, quotes what should I do to get more appointments?
I can't tell you how many conversations I've had lately that have turn off by saying we're down by 20%, or we have a lot of appointments open this week, what should we do? Be sure to check out the many The Veterinary Marketing Podcast Courses like the Youtube Ads Couse and The Veterinary Marketing Ad Workshop we have available Here Join the Veterinary Marketing Nerd Facebook group to get even more help with your veterinary practices digital marketing Be sure to listen and let me know if you have any questions, comments, or need help with anything! So today's episode is to give you a clear path on what you need to do so that you can generate new clients without worry.
We talk about first identifying who you want to be targeting, then we talked about creating your offer and finally applying traffic so that you can generate more new clients for your Veterinary Hospital.
When you think about marketing your Veterinary practice, there's really only two very basic ways to approach your strategy kolin you can either Target People based on their behavior or Target People based on their demographics. All marketing essentially boils down to that.
this is why it's so important that we first figure out who we want to be targeting so that we can decide if we need to create an offer that's going to appeal to somebody who's taking an action or somebody do we have to interrupt based on their demographic or psychographic data
if you can really nail down who your ideal Prospect is along with an offer that's going to be irresistible to them the last step is simply applying traffic, and it isn't that difficult to generate your perfect clients.
