Coach Dale "Diesel" Collins and Bobby "The Bearded Wonder" Bennett visit with special guest Captain Richard Andrew owner of Tar-Pam Guide Service.
Captain Richard Andrews is the owner of Tar-Pam Guide Service and has been involved in North Carolina’s charter fishing industry since 2001. Born and raised on the Tar River in Tarboro, North Carolina, he began fishing the rivers, estuaries, and gulf stream waters of Eastern North Carolina at an early age. The day after graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill, he moved to Hatteras Village to fulfill a lifelong dream of working as a mate on an offshore charter boat. Capt. Richard fished full-time for five seasons with some of the best captains in the business out of Hatteras and Oregon Inlet, commercial bluefin tuna fished in the winter, and traveled by boat to Mexico, the Bahamas, and South Florida to chase various billfish species, A highlight of his fishing career was a 2nd Place finish in the Pirates Cove Billfish Tournament with a crew of anglers consisting of 4 boys between the ages of 7 and 13. During these years, he was able to refine his fishing skills, develop an understanding of seasonal fish patterns within North Carolina, and cultivate the patience and experience necessary for a professional charter business.
Capt. Richard also has a masters degree in Natural Resources from N.C. State University where his graduate research focused on stream and wetland ecology. Soon learning that a “real job” just isn’t for him, he decided to pursue his passion of guiding inshore fishing enthusiasts to new experiences in the remote fishery of the Inner Banks region of North Carolina. His goal is to create for you the absolute best fishing experience possible and provide a professional and consistently high level of service for his guests. He now resides in Bath with his wife, Austin, and two sons, Tripp and Henry.

2023 dates are available on a first come first serve basis!
Itinerary: 8/13 2023 - Arrive at Golden Stone Inn West Yellowstone Montana 8/14/2023 - Guided Fishing 8/15/2023 - Guided Fishing 8/16/2023 - DIY Day 8/17/2023 - Guided Fishing 8/18/2020 - Guided Fishing 8/19/2023 - Depart West Yellowstone Montana
All meals and transportation after being picked up by host are provided. License and Gratuity(recommended $100 per day),and airfare are not included. Trip has the potential to fish in Montana, Yellowstone National Park, and Idaho. Guides will make decision on best location evening prior to guided day on the water. Cost is $4799 per person based on double occupancy. Fifty percent deposit due at time of booking and remaining balance is due May 1, 2023. Check or cash is preferred. An additional fee of $192 each time credit/debit card is processed for deposit and remaining balance.

Mac Brown is the author of “Casting Angles” which is a fly casting handbook for those on the journey of understanding the mechanics of the cast. The ACA, FFI, and others have endorsed this text as a reference for instructors as well. Mac is a Master Casting Instructor through the Fly Fishers International.
Mac was inducted into the Southern Appalachia Fly Fishing Museum Hall of Fame under recreation on August 26, 2017. The induction speech can be found on the Fly Fishing Guide School page which pays tribute to the many friends that I am thankful. I am proud to claim Bryson City, NC my home since 1987.
Mac was “Angler of the Year” in Field and Stream in 1999. His articles have appeared in Fly Rod and Reel, Fly Fisherman, Angling Report, ESPN TV, Outdoor Life, Field and Stream, Fly Fishing America T.V., Fly Fishing the World, and many others.

We welcome you to enjoy our rustic Italian-Appalachian cuisine along side inventive craft cocktails and unique wines in the very heart of downtown Sylva. Ilda is the artisan passion project of husband & wife team Chef Santiago Guzzetti and Sommelier Crystal Pace. Nestled in the Smokey Mountains of Western North Carolina, the pair felt called to build a home that is rich in culture, craft and community. Santiago’s heritage in Italian cuisine and Crystal’s ties to her hometown of Appalachia create a cuisine that is unique, but also honors and respects history. This union of Italian and Southern Appalachian cuisine is the foundation where they will recreate the comfort you found at your grandmother’s kitchen table.
Santiago and Crystal met while working in New York and together, the two bought a small restaurant on the corner of Main Street and Mill Street in the heart of downtown Sylva, North Carolina.
Crystal is a Sylva native and the daughter of local stained glass artist, Bob Pace. This restaurant space is especially heartfelt for Crystal because this is where her stepmom, Karen Martar, opened her first restaurant, “Meatballs” nearly 40 years ago. Karen, a sassy Sicilian from New Jersey, not only left a huge impact on Crystal, but the entire town of Sylva. Crystal’s passion for traveling and wine has taken her around the world, but like Karen, she believes the magic lives in Sylva. The wines chosen for Ilda will be both classics and rarities with a focus on Italian varietals.
Santi’s Sicilian grandmother, Ilda, is his inspiration as he inherited his passion for cooking from her. Santiago Guzzetti’s ever-evolving seasonal menu showcases the restaurant’s relationships with local farmers, fishermen and artisanal producers across Western North Carolina while displaying the unmatched skill and technique of southern Italian cooking.
From our bar you will enjoy innovative cocktails curated by credible NYC bar and spirits professional, Antoine Maurice Hodge. Antoine has created a custom cocktail menu for Ilda that not only embraces the various spirits and authentic libations of Italy, but also utilizes the vast local and indigenous ingredients of Appalachia.
Together Crystal and Santiago are creating a cuisine that incorporates Appalachian ingredients using Italian technique. With a focus on local produce and homemade pasta, their food evokes a feeling of comfort and sparks a curious taste for more. As an homage to family and heritage, the duo is naming their restaurant Ilda and will also feature Karen’s family meatball recipe.

Tropical Storm Fred left Haywood county in ruins with currently people unaccounted for. Canton, Bethel, Cruso, and Clyde were hit the hardest and as photos continue to roll in its unfathomable what people experienced Tuesday.
On a much brighter side we discuss and incredible new back pack from Fishpond! The Firehole Backpack is fantastically thought out an executed well. Combine it with the new Canyon Creek Chest Pack for total pack system for a great day on the water.

State of the Industry plus 2022 Goals

Coach Dale "Diesel" Collins, Bobby "The Bearded Wonder" Bennett, and Shannon "Big Mess" Messer start off 2022 on a good note. A few new whiskeys mixed in with the state of the fly fishing industry makes for a pretty good start for 2022.
We sip some Memphis Hot Toddy and a Maryland Rye in this episode. We were pleasantly surprised by the rye and the Memphis Hot Toddy is dangerous. Bobby says, "It's like eating Red Hots candy". I was told it was Christmas in a bottle and I would have to agree. Definitely check both of these out.
